  1. Yay/boo West Coast!

And thanks for taking so much time to moderate these things, I’d go crazy. And now I want Chinese food. -goes to scrounge-

  2. wow. you get pain to listen to quirkey kids chat. that is one cool job but i guess you would have to do it ALL the time and that would be HARD.

  4. Actually, Rosanne and I don’t get paid for GAPA-ing. Believe it or not, we do it for fun. (And you thought you were crazy!)

  5. Eeek. Scares me to think that if Robert’s Treo was stolen on a trip, we would not have moderation for as long as it took for Robert to get home or buy another Treo!!! Eeek.

  6. Well, it’s not entirely for fun. There’s also that little matter of world domination to which MBers are intermittently devoted.

  7. Speaking of which, not many people have gone to the ‘Mostly Harmless” thread in quite a while. The “Mostly Harmless” thread is key to qorld domination, and peple talk about it, yet no one goes there. Shall we resurrect it?

  8. quorld? DUDE! That should be our new codename for the world.

We shall take over the quorld!!!

Hey, i just escaped the monotony of lawn-mowing. Let me have my little moments of complete and utter insanity. :D

  9. Robert isn’t a zombie! Yay! it is the magical Treo. Did you use the chopsticks when you ate?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  10. Yes. I learned to eat with chopsticks when I was seven and my family spent a year in San Francisco. We went to Chinatown a lot.

    Pie 0

  11. Darling! I eat with chopsticks all the time. Ms. Spector looks happy in this picture, and Mr. Coontz looks like part of the non-red-haired Lazarus Long family.

Do people who’ve learned to eat with chopsticks have problems using Western tableware? I doubt it.

  12. Yay! Robert, you do look quite smashing in this picture! Huzzah for your Treo! A surprising munber of my friends are unable to eat with chopsticks. It’s sad, really. I’ll have to instruct them on proper chopstick technique. And, if I may, I shall now quote Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds: “*defensively* It’s like trying to forage for food with a pair of #2 pencils!”

  13. Robert, can you smile? Because that is NOT a smile.

Is that a Treo 650? If so, how much was it and where did you get it? (I’m looking into getting one)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  14. I smile subtly.

Yes, it’s a 650. I’ve had it for nine or ten months now. I bought it from my phone company for–hm, I forget. Three or four hundred dollars with a two-year cell-phone contract. If you get one, I’d recommend buying the replacement plan, too; they’re easy to break.

  15. I eat with chopsticks occasionally and smile obviously and do not own a Treo.

  17. personally i pictured the gapas like this:
    (*_*)
    /\
    / I \
    I
    _/\_
but hey- thats just me. also, if the gapas intended to stap eachother with chopsticks, they would hold on in each hand to give tehm selves more control.
thus speaks the person who wear s a chopstick in her hair on a daily base and therefore learned to fight with one.

  18. I pictured the GAPAs as mystacal floating people. I didn’t know they were REAL!!!!!!!(just kidding) I am shocked, amazed, and disenchanted (not really). Hmm…chopsticks…stabbing…I’ll have to look into that…

  21. Do you know, we’re not allowed to eat with chopsticks at lunch at my school? I had to eat my soba noodles with a fork and spoon. I was most ashamed of myself. I mean, what’s a nice girl to do? I had no chopsticks, wasn’t allowed any, and wasn’t going to use my fingers, was I? Spoiled the meal, anyway. I went home that night and I’ve made a point of using them, ever since.

Bonus: at Japanese formal meals, you don’t have to worry about using the right utensils. However, this won’t help you too much because there are delicate little formal manners that Westerners simply don’t get. And my Japanese is absymal. I get forgiven things because I’m American and because I always get myself seated either next to my grandfather, who’s fluent and respected, or next to a fellow Imanishi supporter.

  23. I don’t know how I pictured the GAPAs at first. It’s always been hard for me to imagine detailed pictures of people I’ve never seen. Fortunately, I no longer think of the GAPAs as voices without bodies; I have a picture to go with the words on the screen now. ^_^

  24. 35-i have no problem with eating soba noodles with fork&knife…
    seems normalish to me.
me friends japanese. he sayeth that in japan beer is sold in vending machines, cell phones scan and pay for stuff and food is good.

  25. You should have a podcast or something, Robert, because then we’d get the WHOLE picture- voice and looks- and Quintessentia (WOW That was hard to type) could get the entire brain overload over at once.

If I tried to moderate during dinner my dad would get TICKED! He’d probably confiscate my Treo. That is why you moderate and I do not.

Beer is sold in vending Machines.
Cellphones are used as credit cards
Food is AMAZING and very healthy.

All true. They also have a dilivery service whose emblem is a cat holding another cat in its mouth. If you see someone in thier uniform walking you can call in and report them. They are supposed to run everywhere.

wow – from hearing jadestone talk i thought that there were more… like 5… or 6… or MORE!
Yeah. But theres only the 2 of them. btw, my friend will comment in italics.
and Jadestone will eventually get around to giving me a muse subscription
I allready explaind all that on the Dreams thread. Say hi to my friend Robert and Rosanne! She’ll be joining us soon.

  37. Ugh. Why? I wouldn’t. Even the sound of the word brings a shudder….

Hey at least you don’t have the curse of the huge loose lips like i do. Mine are all poofy and whatnot. It’s so annoying.

Personally i think it’s the eyes. There’s a glare from your glasses right over them covering them up. I bet if we could see them we’d see a smile. Eyes are everything.

But you could try moving the corners up. :D lol

  40. 40-Also in Amsterdam alcohol (champagne, too) is sold by vending m.

Lay off Mr. Coontz. I actually think he doesn’t look that bad in the photo. I bet you’d quite like him if you met him socially. And anyway, he’s a Man Of Style. The glasses are particularly good-they look like the kind Right Said Fred wore.

  41. Robert, do you ever feel like posting a:

‘STOP THE POSTS DAMMIT!’ message on the blog homepage?

I bet you feel that way sometimes, but you probably couldn’t get away with shouting at us to knock it off.

It must be ugly on busy days, when tons of kids are all writing at the same time.

You have the power to press the button.
With this great power, one must ask:

Do you ever get so fed up with thw flow of posts, that you simply want to dump them all in the bin

    I know I would
I appreciate the work you and Roseanne do.
Because I would never have the patience.

  43. My grandma thinks knitting’s soothing, and that’s hard. But I guess after a while it’d become like second nature, and no one would bother you because you were doing something.

  44. I would just like to add that I think both GAPAs look wunderbar and that there is nothning wring with Mr. Coontz’s smile. To me, it just looks like the camera caught him in mid smile, and if the picture had been taken a split second later, it would have been a full faced grin. You know that weird suspended in mid-air look people get when the picture is taken at the wrong moment? Even if they were posing for the photo?

Ok, this is rapidly morphing in to another meaningless ranting post.

  45. YEAHHHHHHH!!! A Muse podcast!!! Totally awesome!! Hey, brainstorm!! All the Illinois-dwelling musebloggers can meet at the muse offices (with an adult, of course) at a specified date!!!!! Of course, GAPA would have to confirm it, beforre we do it. Then we could actually get to know eachother!! GAPA, pleeez say yes to this!! And you like, must, get an adults permission and bring an adult.

  46. Kiki (68),

If you really want to meet at the Muse offices, for starters I’d suggest that Pentatonikk’s parents get in touch with Samablamablous (Samantha Sordyl) about arranging a tour. Then the parents of anyone else who is interested should get in touch with Samantha.

Rosanne and I won’t be there, unfortunately, as we’re not Carus employees. Nor will She Who Must Not Be Named (who works from home) or Larry Gonick, whose studio is in San Francisco. But you could meet other Musers.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  47. Hmm.
1- What does Pentatonikk have to do with it? Does she live in Chicago?
2- My mom’s friend knows somebody who used to work for Muse. Could I get in touch with her who would get in touch with Samantha Sordyl?
    3- If that doesn;t waork, what’s SS’s number?

  49. Roseanne, your hair looks amazing in that picture! I really need to try the conditioner thing from the advice thread. My hair is a bit like yours – it’s the same color and a few inches shorter, but it’s all frizz and no curl. My nickname is “fuzz”, lol.

Ditto to all of the posts in which people have said thank you, GAPAS, for moderating the museblog. You do a great job! :D
