To everyone that guessed me:
Some of you were very close, some of you were…err…less than close, shall I say. Here’s what I really look like:
Hair: I’ve got blackish/brownish hair, but it’s more black than brown. The brown part is more just these natural highlights I get from being outdoors a lot.
Height: Most of you guessed that I’m pretty short, but I’m actually pretty tall for my age. (I’m 5’3″, and I’m 12.)
Also, I don’t really look like a traditional Asian person. Besides my hair, my facial features don’t really match up to what most Asian people look like. For example, my eyes aren’t almond shaped and I don’t have slightly dark skin that many of my Asian friends have. In fact, my skin is pretty light. I occasionally wear a ponytail, but usually I just leave it down, in braids, or in two loose pigtails. I also do have a few freckles, like someone guessed. Overall the guesses were pretty accurate!

I like to think that the rest of the world is extremely tall and I’m just perfect. I think I look normal. Most of my friends are at least 5 feet. Arg. Sorry.

I’m a little over a year older than you, and I’m pretty much the same height as you!
It gets better. I felt awkward and self-conscious about my height (5’11”) for a long time. (And I got REALLY tired of people asking if I played basketball.) Now I wouldn’t trade an inch.
5’11”? Awesome. I hope I’m that tall when I finish growing. I love towering over people. I tower over most of my friends.

About tall…
I think height influences how old you feel, and how much people depend on you.
I think that the best height for a woman is around 5’5″ or 5’6″. That way, you’re not too tall or too short, and if you like wearing heels (Or if you’re in a situation where you have to.) you’re not incredibly tall and towering over everybody else. I’m sure that your height does influence your personality quite a bit, maybe because there are certain stereotypes for different heights and therefore you probably are more inclined to do something that “fits” the stereotype of your height.
What’s wrong with towering? It’s fun!
Towering is amazingly fun. It intimidates people. I like intimidating people. Also, I don’t mind if people ask me if I play basketball–I like basketball okay. Also, tall is good for rock climbing, which is my sport.
Almost as much fun as looming.
It’s kind of weird, though, if some of your friends don’t reach your shoulder. Sometimes, I actually wish I wasn’t so tall, even though everyone says it’s great.
I personally don’t like towering over people…I’m taller than most of my friends, and it gets annoying sometimes. I’d rather just be the same height as them. Although I guess towering is better than being really short…

Your guesses for me weren’t drastically inaccurate. I have fairly long, straght light brown hair, and I did wear glasses for about four years. Now I have contacts, and I only wear my glasses when I’m sick and for weekend/summer mornings when I’m lazy. I guess I have a fairly round face, yes. I’m about average height–5’4″ (I’m fifteen years old)–but short compared to a lot of my friends. My eyes… well… in order of precedence of color, they’re blue-green-gray-yellow-orange. They did used to be blue, but sometime during middle school they changed. I personally don’t see the orange or yellow, but my friends are all convinced it’s there.
RoseQuartz, if I didn’t have at least four friends named Hannah I’d probably picture you like on of them. That is your name, correct?

Brown hair, yes, curly, no, and short. I have hazel eyes, and do wear jeans a lot. As for laughing a lot, I do *recalls incedent involving laughing uncontrollably at stupid comments in class and a Very Annoyed Teacher*. I do like wearing purple/pink, but don’t actually own a lot in those colours. Relaxed- not usually.

15 (Armada’s guess)-You got the hair color right, but not the length. My hair is actually a few inches below my shoulders. As for the green clothes? Well, I actually don’t have too many green clothing, but I guess I can understand why you think that with my avatar like you pointed out…
16-(Daisy*Chain’s guess)-Like Armada, you also got the hair color right, but not the eye color, mine are brown. Also, I’m about 5’3″, so I’m pretty tall for my age. Your clothing guess was also a little off too. My favorite colors are pink and blue when it comes to clothes, and so I wear those the most often. And although I do love jeans, I don’t really like faded ones and I rarely wear them with t-shirts. I prefer baby doll tops, empire waist shirts, or random t-shirts that I find in my closet with random sayings on them. (Don’t ask, my closet is a jungle – I find something new in it almost everyday…yes, it does drive my mom nuts.)

Yes it is!! I have brown hair!! And everyone keeps guessing hazel eyes (hazel = similar to brown) and that I am tall enough to look older than I am (accurate)! It’s like someone’s stalking me!
No, it’s not. It’s perfectly reasonable. (Although I have been known to be a stalker….mwahahaha….just kidding!) A lot of people guess brown hair for me, which is true. And most people think I’m tall enough to look older than I am, which is true. People have told me I look sixteen before. I’m about 5’7”, and I just turned 14. Once you get over the slight creepiness, it becomes fun. It’s also fun when someone’s guess is so far off that it’s funny. *coughEnceladus’sguessofmecough*

Re-height: my friend NFM is about the same age as me with a difference of around two weeks (Im the older) and he’s maybe a head taller than me. And I’m average for a twelve year old girl. And my little sister is nearly as tall as I am even though she’s only ten. And my older cousins
are supertall they got it from my uncle who sometimes has to duck when going through doors. The younger of those two is going onto basketball profesionally, I think.

I just love the way people envision me. It’s very apt. It does seem that my ideas of other people are much more mundane than most people’s, though.
Ooba: Blonde hair, brown eyes, same facial expression and glasses (but not face shape or skin tone; your skin’s rather pale) as your avatar.
Mika: Almost-shoulder-length (but the length is different in different areas… but in a organized way. Like how some people have spiky hair, except yours is upside-down), brown hair, slightly darker brown eyes, tannish skin, tends to wear shorts, often grinning (but as with other people, it depends on what your post is about), often running or looking like you just were (I have no idea why), and often surrounded by woods if you don’t mention where you actually are.
By the way, Cskia has a narrow face, and Zinc has a prominent chin. My mental images of people are automatic, and I can’t think of them any other way, but they’re rather blurry, and I can generally only focus on one bit of them at a time.

It’s really frustrating to me when a book character is introduced early on, and then ens appearance is described much, much later. In the Inkworld trilogy, for example, it wasn’t mentioned until halfway through the series that the main character had blonde hair. I’d been envisioning her with brown hair the entire time, and I still haven’t been able to change the way I see her, no matter how hard I try–and I’ve read the series multiple times.
Does this happen to anyone else, or can you adjust easily? Clearly, I often do adjust when people change avatars, etc, but not at will. When an online friend of mine changed her pseudonym from Smile to Cherry, for example, my mental image of her changed so dramatically that I still have trouble thinking of

I hate being wrong about what other people look like, and I think I’ve trained my brain to imagine everyone else as their gravatars. That makes me sound like I have no imagination, actually, but it’s not that. I might have veryveryvery vague ideas that appear in dreams or whatnot, but they fade away when I wake up.
I am also 99% percent certain that no one has an accurate mental image of me, which might be the cause of me not having an image of you guys because I don’t want people to have this wrong image of me which actually becomes this eternal chain of what you think of me thinking of you thinking of me…

Does it matter? It’s just appearance. Actually, I think it’s better this way because no-one can be judged by it. It could get confusing at Kokons, though. I’m afraid I do have a mental image of you, and it would be really hard to just replace it with your gravatar, which isn’t what you look like (I hope?!), anyway.
I imagine people as like their names and/or gravatars, except they’re human versions. Also, if people name themselves after tangible things, I see the things first and then the person when reading their names out of context. For pie girl, for example, I see a pie, then my stereotypical image of a girl, then my mental image of her. It’s like an equation: pie+girl=MuseBlogger. Sometimes it gets more complicated:

What? Hm, strange. I always think of Zs as smooth, slick, and hard, but never spikey. Like… a metal surface. Z does look spiky, though; I was judging by sound.

I would have thought that most people thought of Ks as spiky, since so many people associate “takiti” with a pointy shape. I don’t know, though. Other MuseBloggers, what do you think of Ks and Zs?
Oh yeah that article! *hunts it up* Ks are rather sharp and pointy, but the other spiky letter was T, not Z–and, in fact, M is a round letter. So…hmmm. I pictures Zs as sort of…not spiky, but rather a buzzing…oh, this is pointless. I don’t really visualize letters. I’d be interested to know, however, what other MBers think of Zs. (And I wonder…if people change their name, do their images change as well?)
Which makes the impression: the shape of the letter, or the sort of sound it represents?
I think the shape of the letter is spikier. K sounds sort of crunchy to me.
For me, it depends on how I see it. If I only hear it, the shape of the letter makes no difference to me because I don’t automatically see words I hear as if written down, unless they’re words whose meanings I don’t know, or people are talking about writing the word down or seeing it in a book or something. But if it’s written, I think the shape makes a difference, because I don’t think of C as spiky.
When people change their name online, my image of them changes immensely, but because of meaning, not sound. When Smile/Cherry was Smile, I imagined her as tall and thin and blonde with yellowish skin and a round, smiling face and black eyes who wore yellow. Basically, she looked like a walking emoticon. Once she became Cherry, she was short and stout and dark with brown eyes and auburn hair and wore red, like a human cherry. The difference is so huge that like I said, it’s really hard for me to think of her as one person.
Also, for some reason, Japanese words in general seem spiky to me. I don’t know why. I think it has to do with the distinctness of the syllables and the fact that they don’t use C, a round letter.
Is it because of the symbols?
I think of Ks as being hard, but Zs being kind of… wild. But I suppose they could be spiky. When you put them together… Oh! The i’s. Lowercase i’s change things… they make them slimmer.
I don’t think it’s because of the symbols, because the ones written in the English alphabet seem spiky, too, as do English words that are derived from Japanese ones. Actually, I’m not sure it’s so much spiky as just… sharp and pointy. Very, very sharp and pointy. As in, don’t touch it or it’ll cut you. I don’t know why. And Dutch words are sturdy and hard, and so are words from Old English, and Old and Middle English words themselves, and Russian words are like… liquid, sort of. I could probably go on and on for every language I know at least one word and/or spelling rule in.
I think of Ks as hard, too, possibly because of the fact that the hard C sound is also referred to as the K sound. Does your Z-wildness have to do with zebras, maybe? Or just the zig-zagged shape?
I agree about the Is, although for me, it depends on certain things, like the sound they make. Long Is don’t do that for me, but the ones that sound like ih and ee do.

My eyes are blue, not rutabaga-colored unless the rutabaga was really, really frozen. My hair is not auburn; it is dirty blonde and wavy~messy. It gets curly if I don’t brush it. Normally it’s frizzy if I don’t do anything with it. It’s long-ish; down to the shoulder blades of my back, I guess. I’m not a rutabaga, although it would be neat to be one. I’m tall, about 5’9”, and my eyes are blue. I wear green a lot, and I usually wear T-shirts. I don’t have a grass skirt; indeed, I don’t wear skirts at all, really. I can see why you could see my rutabaga as being beach-y or grass skirt-y. I do not carry a blue lightning bolt. Usually, I am seen carrying a saxophone or ball of yarn with knitting. Or wearing a saxophone neck strap. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but occasionally I wear homemade earrings. I don’t really wear scarves or hats or shawls. I wish I could, but I keep forgetting to. Oh, and an iPod. When I’m at home, I’m listening to music- R.E.M. or John Williams. And a book. I read.
SFTDP: I have kind of a slim figure, but usaully bad acne on my face around my nose. It’s not noticeable from a distance. I don’t have bangs on my face. I tuck it behind my ears. And my feet are huge. Size eleven. Okay, but I’m getting detailed here. WAAY too detailed. So I’m just going to post this now.

As for the people who see us as our avatars… How does that work? Do people really see, say, a piece of radiant darkness or a triangle and stripe or a Tudor Rose talking and… walking? And throwing pies and playing instruments and going to school? Or do they just mean that’s what they associate with the people? It seems very strange to me…
It’s what I associate with them. For example, when someone talks about band, I see their gravatar as their personality, and then I think of a random en playing trombone. Or violin or French horn or saxophone. Even though violin is orchestra, not band. It’s like their instrument gets added to the meaning behind the personality of the gravatar. So instead of just seeing a triangle and a stripe for Kai, I see a triangle and a stripe symbolizing a love of space exploration, because that’s what I associate Kai with, since the first time I heard of her was in her Muserology.

I’d like to add to a different discussion that my images of people don’t alwayschange with their names. For exampl, Thief looks the same as she did when she was Neko.
I do have dark brown hair, although it’s only spiky in the morning before I pat it down. Blue eyes, and I’m a bit shorter than average, although very close to average. I tend to wear white and tannish colors, or darker greens and blacks.
