My friends are all part of this theater group and their teacher yells at them.
(first post?)
I used to be really into theater. I guess I just got too busy. My favorite part was Maria in Twelfth Night. (That’s one part I would definitely try out for again given the chance.
Ironically, I am in a play today! It’s the final day of my theater camp so we’re putting on a play. I’m excited!
I LOVE acting and theater, and have done school performances/concerts and some community theater as well. Nothing really huge, but good enough. I especially like musicals, although non-musicals are fun too. My favorite part about theater is, surprise surprise, the show, because I just love being on stage and becoming someone else for a while. I hate auditions, especially when the directors know someone who’s auditioning, or even worst, their own kids are trying out! One of my pet peeves is biased directors.
I love plays, etc. When I was in elementary school (before I moved and started homeschooling, so first, second, and third grades) every year we did a play. When I was in first we did Who Pushed Humpty, and I was one of Little Bo Peep’s three little sheep (the other two were, oddly enough, my two best friends from kindergarten, we had been the only three our age group in our class, and the teachers called us “the evil three”) In second grade it was Bugs, and I was the only one with a main part that wasn’t a third grade. I was….*drumroll* one of the three caterpillars that turn into butterflies! yay! And in third we did James and the Giant Peach, and all the third graders got the main parts of course, I was the Centipede and my arch-enemy was the Earthworm. We had absolutely no problem with the arguing parts! And I got to yell at the Cloud People! My dad had to coach me on the pronunciation of “nincompoop”, because I kept saying “nincomcoop” instead, haha. I lurve plays and musicals! (I’ve been in three musicals at piano camp as well)
Thank you very much, GAPAs!
I’ve been in four plays. My characters have all been grown women, oddly.
3 (Kiga): Break a leg! What kind of character are you playing?
I’m a queen! Yay!!! And the play was great; thanks.
I’ve always had a rather silly part.
1st play ever: flustered servant that has a lot of bad things happen to her in The Empress’s New Clothes.
2nd play: a very pompous superhero named Medieval Woman who took credit for all of the fantastic deeds of her sidekick, Knight Boy. This was in an altered version of The Princess and the Pea, in which the Princess is a long-lost sister who must be found by somebody, namely, the superheroes.
3rd play: a psychotic witch in Hansel and Gretel.
4th play: An orphan, and later in the musical, a pickpocket who steals a pair of underpants from a windowsill in Oliver.
Warning: rant ahead.
Now, I’ve been in two other plays, and these are the plays that are mandatory for every student at my new school (since 4th grade, anyway) to participate in so we can be “enriched” and “work together” or something like that. (Really, it’s just a fundraiser, because you have to pay for tickets) That would be just fine with me, I like acting. HOWEVER! These plays are written and directed by the INSANE technology teacher, who isn’t exactly capable of teaching her own subject, let alone writing AND directing a “play” really, it’s just a nonsense musical made to get everyone on stage that doesn’t even make sense. There is NO PLOT WHATSOEVER!!! PEOPLE GET STUPID PARTS! IN 4TH GRADE, THE WHOLE PLAY RHYMED, IT WAS BASED ON DR. SEUSS AND I WAS A DANCING KANGAROO WHO SANG A SONG ABOUT SOUP AND TAP DANCED FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF A 2 HOUR PLAY!! And in 5th grade, I was “Mom” which was a “lead” but I had to grin stupidly the whole time and sing every single irrelevant song in the whole play. My friend and I meant to write our own version over this summer, but alas, we never got together. We’ll never have enough time during the school year. Aaargh!
Yay! I didn’t know there was a thread like this! Thanks for reviving it, GAPAs.
So. Plays. Every year my homeschool group writes and performs a play. The first year was really stupid–we were a bunch of ten-year-olds, okay, and there was no plot whatsoever. The second year was sort of decent–it had a plot, anyway, even though the characters didn’t have much character. The third year–last year–was awesome. We played with the conventions of the theater, had a play within a play, and actually developed our characters. I can’t wait for this year–I think alternative theater is the way we want to go.
Wow! That’s really cool!
Yeah, it’s really awesome.
So, I used to be reeeeeeally into theatre, but I took a break for awhile. But now I’m thinking of starting again because there’s a little playhouse in my town who’s doing a teen theatre program. They’re doing The Witches for the first show. I am excited.
I love The Witches! What character would you like to play? I think I’d be a witch, being evil is fun.
So, what’s everyone’s favorite musical? I have a lot so it’s hard to pick one, but right now I’m really into Annie.
I didn’t write this before, but here’s the list of shows I’ve been in. (Outside of school, because I don’t think that concerts really count – those are more just like a bunch of random songs being played or sung, so I won’t include those. Plus I’ve been in so many I can’t even remember them all!!)
Wizard of Oz – Munchkin (Community theater) and Gloria (School) (Yeah, I’ve been in it twice!! Being a munchkin was fun, but I only had one line in the whole show, and just two scenes. I LOVED LOVED LOVED being Gloria, however. We had a great cast, I was in a bunch of scenes and had a lot of lines, and I got to sing The Merry Old Land of Oz by myself. An exciting, fun, and upbeat song that I loved! Overall, great production.)
Beauty and the Beast – Villager (This show was ok. The songs were fun, but I didn’t have any lines. However, I did have a singing solo and duet.)
Grease – Ms. Lynch (I hated that part. The only good thing was that I got to boss people around. Other than that, it pretty much sucked.)
The Walled City – Snitch (This was basically a show that a local guy from my town wrote and then my theater group performed to raise money for several charities. It was fun, even though I only had a few lines.)
There are others, but these are the main shows I’ve done in recent years. Feel free to comment!
Wicked is my favorite musical, with Mama Mia! as a close second.
I am BIG into theatre! I have been in 15 plays, 10 of which have been musicals. My fav part was probably….. either Mr. Blossom in Dr. Doolittle, (yes, that’s a musical), or Babette (the feather duster) in Beauty and the Beast. Being Tzietel in ‘Fiddler on the Roof” was also fun. Rehearsal, -not the show, is my fav part of being in a production because you get to meet people you probably didn’t know before. Lately, I was in this workshop called ‘Take it From the Top’, and the teachers were all Broadway Actors! It was really fun, and the head guy was one of the judges on “The Next El Woods”, and Laura Bell Bundy (El from Legally Blonde on Broadway) was supposed to be there, but had a meeting she had to go to in NYC. :(. !!
–
I wanted the part of Babette when I was in Beauty and the Beast – not to mention that our Babette wore a super cool costume!! Unfortunately I didn’t get the part and was a villager (Oh yeah, and a utensil!). The girl who played Babette was actually the director’s daughter, which made me soooo mad! I’m not saying that I should have gotten that part, but it still made me upset that ALL of her kids got leads. (Her other daughter was Belle, and her son was Cogsworth!!)
I really like acting, but don’t know how to get into it. So far the closest I’ve gotten is this circus camp I go to, where I do Commedia Dell’Arte.
A great way to get into acting is to look into some acting classes. Many community theaters offer great programs, and if you do attend some of their courses you’ll get in touch with how the theater operates and maybe even tryout for one of their shows! I took acting lessons at a theater and was then invited to tryout for a performance even though I wasn’t intending on auditioning for anything. It turned out to be a great experience.
Re: favorite musical: I’d say Urinetown.
Roles:
General Shmitz in Seussical
Tallulah in Bugsy Malone
Rizzo in Grease
Menciguela in Medieval Farces
Widow Corney in Oliver!
Queen in Once Upon a Mattress
Leslie in Sideways Stories from Wayside School
Berthe + Theo in Pippin
And at Stagedoor Manor, Ti Moune in Once on this Island.
I did do this film thing for a bunch of older women trying to get back into college, where I was a girl (Diana) whose mother hired a tutor to teach her Chinese so she could head over to China and get a rich husband (they were struggling in today’s economy).
I LOVE Rizzo! She rocks! I was in Grease too (as Ms. Lynch) and it looked like such a fun part.
12- If you want to get into acting you should see what your school has to offer. Most schools have at least one play or musical a year and to audition you usually need little or no prior experience. The only thing you need to consider before auditioning is do you have enough free time to devote to it because most plays have rehersals between three and five times a week after school and sometimes more just before the show opens. If that sounds like to much to you see if your school or a theater company in your area does summer programs. I really like summer programs because even though you have rehersal just as often as you would during the school year you have more free time because it’s summer. I hope this helps you!
No good. Thanks, though. I’m going into 7th grade, and my school offers nothing at all like that. (Boo!) I’ve done some skits in my 5th and 6th grade class, but other then that, the closest I’ve gotten was a skit about the pilgrims in like first or second grade (I was Squanto) that ended up being called off. I was really disappointed this year because one of my teachers was an actress and she usually did big plays but SHE DIDN’T DO ONE BOTH YEARS I WAS WITH HER!!
WHY NOT?
So, I have had no acting career so far. Although I had a dream recently that I was trying out for Midsummer Night’s Dream, except the script didn’t really have much to do with the play at all.
OHHH, MUSICALS! My absolute favorite thing in the world! My favorites are Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Legally Blonde, and the Little Mermaid (the classic Disney one, I’m afraid :D)
I’ve been in several plays.
101 Dalmations- Anita
The Jungle Book- Bagheera
101 Dalmations (again)- Horace
Egg Quest (a play that my drama class and I wrote)- The Elf Queen Ophelia
And various others I can’t remember of the top of my head.
I compete in the Canadian Improv Games as part of my school’s team. I could explain how it works if people were interested.
I have been in two plays other than ones as part of a summer camp I used to frequent. I was MacPherson in The Princess Bride (adapted from the book) which meant I had to learn a scottish accent. For Fezzik, they put him on drywall stilts (?), which are actually not allowed in Canada (for drywalling or whatever). The second play was Blood Wedding by Lorca. I was the neighbour.
My favorite musical is probably The Music Man.
I love Theatre/Theater. I want to be an actor/director/drag queen, so acting is kind of important to me. My past plays:
Second grade: I was in a summer camp performance of Through the Years, by Amelia Robinson, as the young slave boy, I forget his name
Third grade: I was in a summer camp performance of The Pageant of Marvels, by Cervantes, playing Rabalin
Fourth grade: I was in a high school production of Pippen, playing Theo
Sixth grade: I was in our school’s production of Annie, playing an orphan
Seventh grade: My school’s production of Aladdin, as Iago/a towns person
Eighth grade: My school’s production of Peter Pan, as Mr. Darling/a nameless pirate
Summer of ninth grade: A summer camp’s performance of the Pirates of Penzance, as the Major General.
I want to do Pippen again, as the Lead Player. That’s my dream role. If I do that I can die happy.
I think my favorite musical would be the Phantom of the Opera, but I’d love to play anyone (seriously, all of the parts appeal to me) in Chicago.
I forgot, I was also a witch in Macbeth. Oops.
I need to see Wicked.
You must see Wicked. It has amaaaazing songs. (but I might be biased.)
Your production of Annie had male orphans? (Unless of course you were already a drag queen in sixth grade…)
Ha, no. They had male orphans. My costume was atrocious.
Has anyone been in My Fair Lady? It looks really fun to perform.
Ah, that’s too bad. We were hoping that you got to play the part of a cute little girl orphan, complete with eyeliner and the like.
Orphans wear eyeliner?….
No, I suppose not…..but it would fit Beavo so well.
We wore eyeliner anyways. It was stage makeup. We have had awful lighting. That was my second time wearing eyeliner in my life, and look at me now. (You can’t really, but people confuse me for female prostitutes. Or at least they did that one time. And my mother reminds me I look like one.)
Haha, a gender neutral orphan. That would mess up the song “Little Girls” a bit.
Little girls and gender neutral biological males
Little girls and gender neutral biological males
Everwhere I turn I can see them and wonder what’s going on in their head
There I’ll stay locked away until the prohibition of little girls and gender neutral biological males.
It has a ring to it…
In all the productions that I’ve done, all of the actors wear stage makeup. Trust me if you don’t and you have skin as pale as mine you’ll look like as white as a ghost in the lighting, not to mention that the people in the back of the theater probably won’t be able to see your eyes, nose, and mouth.
I haven’t, but I’ve worked on some songs from it.
17- But….! Mr. Darling and Hook are supposed to be played by the same actor!
Beavo- The musical Wicked is ridiculously different from the book. The musical is more about “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” but the book is quite seriouse and has political undertones and stuff and it isn’t all sugared up for general audiences. I did enjoy the musical, but I saw it in grade eight and I read the book in grade seven. If I reread the book I think I would view the stage production very differently.
Armada- when onstage most actors’ faces are completely caked with make up. First goes on the pancake make up, then eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. Then, depending on the character there will be highlighted and shadowed areas, fake scars and the likes.
Fortunately, to the joy of most all concerned, the old horrid pancake makeup has been mostly superseded by liquid foundation.
Yes, I know. But there’s a difference between stage makeup eyeliner and eyeliner eyeliner.
Hm. I haven’t had many roles in non-childish theater. Mother-Jacques in The Future is in Eggs, “Picked” (aka the garbage girl, but not really…I didn’t have a name. No one did except Sky Silk Blue in the last monologue) in Daughters, and Lora in Impromptu…that just about sums it up. But I’ve done lights for two shows (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Daughter, and stage managed one (Marvin’s Room), and house managed for The Dining Room when I was but a wee Freshman.
Rebecca- my school insists on pancake makeup for any dance or drama performance. I hate makeup and stage make up is always worse.
That’s too bad. I love stage makeup but not pancake. No one I know of uses it anymore, amateur or professional.
Don’t worry about it, just bring a lot of wipes so you can get it all off right after the show. The lady insisted that she do our makeup and we couldn’t do our own for the Pirates, so I got this foundation that made me look black, which was awful, because I’m extremely pale. And plus I had a mustache.
Here’s me on the female looking scale [most]–*—————[least]
There’s me as the Major General [most]—————–[least] *
Nobody recognized me.
Ugh, I hate that! My school doesn’t exactly do “pancake makeup” but our director does insist that our lips are so bright I swear it looks like we just smeared ketchup all over our faces, and our eye shadow is bright blue, and literally covers the top half of our faces. I know that it’s supposed to be that way, but still, I shuddered when I looked in the mirror up close.
My pancake makeup matches my skin pretty much exactly, which is funny because my mom got it for me, without me being there. Even when I lay it on thickly people can’t always tell that I’m wearing it.
I love the world of theatre makeup. Making people older or girls be men (ot vise versa) is so neat!
Drag makeup is fascinating. When I first got interested in it I thought it was just like a lot of foundation and mascara but nooo… I’ve watched endless tutorials on YouTube and the like about how to shade certain areas to make your face appear more feminine, or some crazy eyeshadow things…
Making a boy look like has bosoms with makeup is harder then it looks, much to the disappointment of like, everyone.
The drag kings have it even harder. They have to do fake stubble and harsh chins and whatever else.
What you can do with a stick foundation and a whole load of pigments is amazing.
That’s really neat. I have often wished I were I guy so I could go in drag. There is a movie (whose name I have forgotten) about two women, who aspire to be famous singers, who witness a murder (gee, does this sound like several other movie plots at all?) and have to go into hiding. They dress up as men in drag and start performing in a gay bar(the people who work there are in drag). They become pretty famous because they actually sing, not just lip sync. It’s a pretty feel good movie.I just wish I could remember the title.
I saw that movie! What was it called? Oh! It was the names of the women! Like…Carla and someone…
Well, it’s certainly not Victor/Victoria, which I so need to see.
You can still perform in drag as a woman. Many drag queens aren’t actually impersonating females, they’re over doing absolutely everything to mock the modern interpretation of femininity. There’s this “drag queer” thing going now where biological women dress up as a biological man dressing up as a woman.
I wonder if there’s a movie about someone who performs in drag because they can, not because they have to.
Re: stage makeup: I’ve actually never worn stage makeup. I’m always told to just wear street makeup, except in Daughters, which was three-quarter-thrust and we were so close to the audience that we didn’t have to wear any makeup.
Just wondering:
What’s everyone’s dream role? I have a lot so it’ll probably take me awhile to come back with an answer but I’ll think on it…
Dream role?
The Lead Player in Pippen (really, I was born to play that role)
Almost anyone in Chicago (Flint, Mama, Hart or Velma, in that order)
There’s probably more, but I can’t think right now.
I don’t know who my dream roll would be. I like playing twisted, vulnerable characters, I guess. I really just like anything I can have fun with. “Fun” not necessairily being a happy character or such. Just a character I can really explore and get the feeling of.
Whoa. This is still happening? After how many years? I’m very surprised. I thought that I’d pop in today and see if this was still happening, after… well, whatever, that’s not interesting.
Anyhoo, dream role, eh? I dunno if I have a specific dream role, or even a firm idea of what it would be, but I have seen several roles that would be amazing to be. The one that comes to my mind the easiest is the old lady role in Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow”. I think her name is Lucy, but A) I haven’t seen the play in two years, and B) Wikipedia’s article is very unhelpful.
This character, Possibly Lucy, comes across as scatter-brained (the way I saw her played, she kept making odd, twisty movements with her hands), yet it becomes clear she knows exactly what she is doing. At the end of the play, we find a man dead on the floor. Others see him first and make noises of shock, surprise, or epiphany. When PL sees him, she says (ending the play), “How very convenient!”
That’s the kind of character that would be most fun for me to play: one with something interesting or unique in the way they see/interact with the world. (Like Heath Ledger’s Joker?) Of course, Possibly Lucy can’t be my dream role, due to our respective and opposite genders. But that kind of thing, certainly.
Incidentally (and if anyone is still reading), has anyone seen or been in “The Mystery of Edwin Drude?” My high school is putting it on this fall. Apparently it’s based on the last book that Dickens ever wrote (of the same name). Since Dickens died while writing it, leaving it unfinished, the creator of the musical decided to have some fun. In the middle of one of the songs, everything stops, and we hear the music slow down to a vinyl-y stop (umm… dunno if anyone understood that. Think of the way Sean Kingston (sorry, easiest reference I could come of with) ends his song, “Beautiful Girls”). Then, or so I’ve heard, an actor says something like, “And here is where Dickens dies, unfortunately. What do we do now?” Eventually the audience is allowed to pick the ending: who are the lovers, who’s the murderer, etc. And no one is off-limits, not even the siblings, as far as I know.
So yeah. There’s my two cents. Or much more. Has anyone seen that musical?
Unnecessary Post Script – If you look at the who page, I used to be “223ankher or bcavefish” (and the other way around). For concise-ness, this is no longer the case. Also, somewhat worryingly, I’m not really getting breaks between my paragraphs. Does this require something other than the <p>
and </p>
tags?
Ah. Apparently it doesn’t: my preview doesn’t show the breaks, but my posting does. Excellent!
25) Ay, the Hanger (local theatre) put The Mystery of Edwin Drood on this year. I missed it though..
I’d love to play Javert in Les Mis (even though my voice doesn’t go nearly as low). I was Eponine this year, but it was fun!
And I’d like to be a flying monkey for the Wizard of Oz. Reasons:
Awesome costumes.
Gets to make weird noises.
Can frighten small children. (Just kidding, I would never do that. )
Roles I’ve had so far:
Understudy for Katherina in The Taming of the Shrew
Eponine in Les Mis
I was also in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a little while ago too, I forgot to mention that before. Overall it was a fun performance, and I really liked the director even though he was extremely tough. It was hard sometimes, but I did like how seriously he took the production and in the end it was a very good play. I was in the chorus – my friend was an Oompa Loompa (Spelled correctly? Sorry I don’t know!) and I was sooo jealous. The makeup and costumes were really cool, not to mention they had all those awesome songs and a really cute little dance to go with it.
My school is doing that play this year. I want to try out for that really bratty girl (I can’t remember her name) who says, “Daddy! I want an Oompa-Loompa now!”, but sixth graders don’t usually get lead roles. I don’t think I could be an Oompa Loompa, because I’m really tall for my age.
That character would be Veruca Salt. It looked like a very fun part!! One of the reasons that I was in the chorus and not an Oompa Loompa was because I’m fairly tall for my age too, and the friend that was one is fairly short for our age. At my school we don’t find out the what the middle school production’s going to be until mid October. I’m dying to find out what it is now though!
What?! I got Veruca in 5th grade, but Charlie was played by a 5th grader and Mrs. Bucket was 3rd grader, but still!
23 (Soccer starr): I’ve never been in a Shakespeare play, but that would be great fun. I’d particularly like to be Helena from A Midsummer Night’s Dream , Lady Macbeth (I like intense roles), or Ariel from The Tempest .
I never want to be in The Taming of the Shrew . I don’t like the story.
So far, I have been:
A military captain in a sci-fi drama.
A psychiatrist’s wife (I got that part two hours before going on stage, because another girl couldn’t come. It was the only time I’ve preformed with script in hand.)
A hypochondriac
A queen
This summer, I was in an improv group. That was a lot of fun. Has anyone else done that?
Does no one else build sets and run lights etc? Is no one else a part of technical theatre?
I think being in technical theatre is a very important part of actually acting. Having a good knowledge of what goes on backstage is extremely helpful. So yeah, sometimes I help out a bit backstage, and I can do lights and I attend the tech days every once in a while.
I was on the stage crew in grade nine…. mainly because we got to use super cool headsets. I do, however, think that actors should have some understanding about what goes on behind the scenes *coughespeciallydancersbecausetheyarethebiggestjerkstoworkwith aspartofstagecrewcough*. I am able to set lighting cues and I know what a gobo is, and about XLR cables and such. I really like set painting. Costumes are my favorite, though.
Yay! I am able to set light cues, I know what gobos and gels are, I can hang a light, I can fix a light’s dimmer plug thing, I can put in a new lamp (depending on the light), I can construct sets, I can paint sets.
Costumes are neat! I can’t really sew, though.
I am a member of tech as well! At ur school tech not only does lights/sounds/run crew but we build everything as well.
Jigsaw are my favorite to use. And everyone should be epic with a hammer. Just pounding away on a nail is so therapeutic.
Last year we essentially built a house for Noises Off. And then we had to spin it around so you could see the back. It was two stories tall, and weighed over one ton. Man we were strong by the end of that.
Beavo, I think you would like the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It has a killer soundtrack too.
Jigsaws are awesome! Hammers are great too. I like the satisfaction of pulling nails out of wood.
Has anyone living in the Bay Area, NorCal, or even the entire state of California seen the “American Idiot” punk rock opera? (Hopefully it will soon move away from the Bay Area and go on a world tour, making me able to discuss it with LOTS of people.) Anyway, has anyone seen it? I did last Saturday… it was AMAZING!!!
Nope. Sorry.
I went to see Much Ado About Nothing at the Folger the other day, it was most wondrous. I love that play, Beatrice is my favorite, she’s so much fun, I’d love to have her as a friend.
Teehee, Folger Shakespeare Library has a youtube channel and a facebook page. xD I find this amusing.
33- Go Shakespeare!
Our school is doing ‘Annie’ for the spring musical. It’s an insane irony for me, because not only do I have red hair and like to sing, but my name is Annie. I’m not an orphan, though, and I don’t live with a drunk old lady who wants to stomp on her wards’ curls. Still, I would really love to make this one.
News back on my audition:
I MADE IT!
This is a happy day, and not only did I get a part but I got a good part, too! I’m one of the orphans, Molly (the little one who has trouble sleeping and clings to Annie all the time). I’m so extremely excited. Never have I been so happy to be short!
Congrats, Aggie! That’s wonderful!
Ooh, Molly is a fun part. I was in that show in 8th grade as Mrs. Greer (which isn’t such a fun part). Most of my (5 or 6) lines were “Yes, Miss”, I didn’t sing much, and I had to wear a hideous costume. I actually don’t like the show that much (and not just because of my costume).
Moochas gracias This makes my years lots happier, especially with all the tests coming up…
Congratulations! Molly is an awesome part! *congratulation pies*
34 – Awesome, I love Annie! One of my favorite musicals.
I have a Theater Club with my fellow homeschoolers where, every year, we write and perform a play. This year, we’re mangling Hamlet. It’s not the best play ever, but it’s pretty decent, considering. And I’m playing Hamlet! Yay! ^^
Black Comedy is our next show. I do hope I get in, it’s a cast of eight (three girls) so my chances are much slimmer, but small casts are AMAZING. I probably stand a fairly decent chance anyway, being a junior and an all right actress (my confidence in my own acting seesaws wildly between Very Low and Quite Hopeful, and at the moment is somewhere in between, because people tell me I’m good…but I got such a small role in the last show I feel that I can’t be very good). If I get cast though, there’s a 66.6 repeating chance that I’ll have to kiss someone. And that could be awkward.
A girl I know is also directing a play of Alice in Wonderland and wants me to try out for Alice. I want to try out for Alice, but I dunno how many shows I could handle at once–assuming I got cast in either, which is by no means assured.
There is also a historical reenactment project that’s more like improv, which I’m going to do, around the same time.
I MADE IT! I got in! And I’m Carol, who’s going to be absolutely HYSTERICAL and so much fun to play! (And I don’t have to kiss anyone…thank goodness.) It’s double-cast which is going to be quite odd, but I’m VERY excited.
I just got the lead in our school play!!!!!! (Multiply those !’s by 1000000!) It’s a funny version of Little Red Riding Hood, where Red is all bratty and snobby – in other words, she’s going to be sooo much fun to play! And we just got our scripts, and Red is HILARIOUS!
Ok, I’ve returned to normal now. But I’m still bursting with excitement, this is the biggest part I’ve ever gotten!
Alice – Congratulations! That’s awesome! (And awesome that you don’t have to kiss anyone either, heh.) *choklit*
Alice & soccerstarr- W00T! I’m Kenickie in Grease. I don’t know why they think I can play a bad boy…
Congratulations! I was in Grease over the summer. It’s a fun play.
Well, this happened awhile ago but…
We got our scripts for the play (See post #39.) and after taking a closer look I realized that my part is actually much smaller than I initially thought. I actually only have lines in the first part of the script, and after that I don’t show up again until the very end. The story line is quite different from the original Red Riding Hood, and in our version she actually only plays a supporting character. (I have 14 lines, the person with the most lines is the Fairy Godmother who has 130.)
I have to admit, I am disappointed even though I know it’s just part of the way things work in a theater…still doesn’t lesson the disappointment though.
It is a fun play though, at least that’s one good thing!
Avenue Q, anyone? It is my favorite show ever.
My dream role’s Kate Monster.
I’d love to be Christmas Eve, but lack both the melanin and the heritage necessary to play that role.
I think that show was banned in Singapore for “puppet nudity”…
Or maybe I’m thinking of another one?
SFTDP.
Interesting show update:
I was just in A Christmas Story-The Musical at the 5th Avenue Theatre as ensemble/swing for all female roles. It’s a new musical heading to Broadway in a few years. The music’s by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They’re amazing. Look them up.
What else have I been in recently?
Beauty and the Beast-Lumiere
Les Mis-Young Cosette
I’ve been in a lot more, but I’m not going to list them all.
I’m going to be in 13 as Patrice. Excited!
Oh, and I also got a callback for a movie.
I’m in Sound and Lighting for my school drama program. My spotlight looks like a giant laser cannon death ray.
Last semester we did The Iliad, The Odyssey, And All Of Greek Mythology In 99 Minutes Or Less; and this semester we’re doing West Side Story. Opening night next week!
Opening night of Footloose at my school is in a week or so. I’ve been promoted to lighting board operator this year. ^^
Saw Rent yesterday. It was … okay. Not the best musical ever, but not bad either. Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes …
My school chorus sings that every. Caking. Year.
They sang it for their concert yesterday and half the kids were singing with them.
Wow. I don’t know how, but I didn’t even realize this thread existed until now.
I have a final exam in Theater class coming up next week. I’m performing a monologue about a custody battle.
Thoroughly Modern Millie opens in a few weeks! It’s my eleventh and final show in high school, so I’m training a freshman girl to take over lighting when I’m gone. Putting together a musical is stressful on everyone, both my apprentice and our stage manager are really annoyed with me at times. The show is a lot of fun though, we have a two-level set for the first time and really good choreography.
Whoa, a school in my area is putting on that play… Good luck! Break a leg!
Thoroughly Modern Millie? That’s an awesome play! I hope the performances go perfectly.
Pit orchestra can be pretty fun. Curtains is a good show. Also, I go to go to a cast party, which was exciting, and play a cool trombone solo while some semi-seductive dancing went on onstage.
