  1. The phoenix is a mythical bird of fire. It symbolizes life, death, and rebirth. Every 400 years (some say 500, 200, or 1000) it rises from it’s home of fire and traveles to a mountain, where it constructs its funeral pyre. It settles down, and then bursts into flame, then to be reborn from its ashes. Only one phoenix may be alive at one time, each a reincarnation of the last. It is supposed to be made of gold, blood, and flame.

(also known as Rock, Paper, Scissors)

The world wide game “scissors, paper, stone” originated from China during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), invented by the warlords of that period. Except instead of paper, they used the open palm symbol to repersent cloth, so it’s “Scissors, Stone, Cloth”. The game reached Japan in the early 1640s and one variation of the game was the “Slug, Snake, Frog” variation.

In this variation, the Frog is afriad of the Snake, the Snake is afriad of the Slug and the Slug is afriad of the Frog. This is influenced by the Sansukumi way of thinking where it keeps the 3 objects in a deadlock. ”

Not really a legend, but now you know where the game comes from! And if the HTML dosen’t work, I’m sorry, it’s not my strong point.

  4. Very well. I know mostly Native American Legends.

So, once upon a time, there was a little village of indians out near Four Corners, or something. The poeple there lived in their wigwams and their teepees, and life was good. THey had plenty of food and water, a good doctor, and cooperative citizens. Life went on.

One late spring day, a few of the people noticed it was getting dry. There hadn’t been rain for a while. THey were slightly worried, but decided that they shouldn’t be because rain was bound to come soon.

It was summer now. THe rain wasn’t here. Now everyone was very worried. THey had a council. “Should we worry about the rain?” asked a youngish brave, named Squeaky Starling. “No,” answered Chief Red Shnoz. “It’ll come soon.”

It didn’t. Red Shnoz decided to ask the gods about it. THey made a fire, and did rain dances all around it, and hoped.

    No rain.

Also living in the village was a little girl. Her father and mother had died when she was an infant, and she had no siblings to speak of. She had no name, since her father and mother hadn’t had time to name her. They just called her “Red Bird.” The only thing that Red Bird still had from her parents was a doll, which she treasured. She was a quiet, calm girl, and everyone simply assumed she was a nice girl, just a little dim in the head.

the night after the 5th rain dance, although none had yet come, Red Bird had a strange dream. The great gods came to her and said, “Red Bird, to have rain, we need a mighty treasure.” She woke up and scampered off towards the smoldering camp fire, doll in hand.

Red Bird approached the fire nervously, until she stood directly in front of it. Suddenly, the thrust her doll directly into the embers.

For a few seconds, nothing happened, than, as Red Bird saw her doll’s first strand of hair start to burn, the entire fire erupted into a roaring pillar of flame. She backed away, nervously, as the fire started to go down. But it wasn’t over. The entire camp fire circle burst into a ring of billowing fire, and as Re Bird glanced upwards, she saw what looked like her doll turning to ashes. The flames suddenly ceased, and Red Bird felt rather queasy and tired. She sat sown an a rock, and within seconds had fallen asleep.

The next morning, the villagers awoke. When they went outside, they found Red Bird, fast asleep in front of the fire. They woke her up, and started to bombard her questions about why she was sitting in front of the fire and why her eyebrows were singed. She ignored them and gazed up towards the sky. Perfectly blue. Panic started to rise in her stomach.. What if…
“Hey!” yelled a small boy next to her. “What’s that?!”
Looking in the direction the boy was pointing in, Red Bird saw what he was pointing at.

    A huge thunderhead.
A clap of thunder and a bolt of lightening shooting across the sky scared all the villagers out of their wits. And than, Buckets of reain started to fall everywhere. And every one was happy and Red Bird was a hero.

    The End.

  5. in the Hindu religion, there is one god. THis god is divided up into three seperate entities, then those in turn are divided up into more and more… or at least that’s how I understand it. If I’m wrong, tell me.

  7. In the Great Naming, when things got their names, fish got named fish. Now the fish got mad, because who wants to be called “fish?” I mean, come on. Back in those days, anger had substance, and it was hot. Now since there are so many fish, all the heat kept combining and multiplying, until it cooked all the fishes’ brains. And that is why fish are so stupid.

Ok, so maybe I made that one up.

  10. Some legendary history from MAP, the imaginary world made up by me and my friends. I rule Gillieth as the elected High Judge Llien (Anagram on my name).

On the Dragons and the Wallian State

In the past, before the mighty Eastern empires rose, when the Swamp People ruled unchallenged, and when the Seven Sisters had not yet risen from the sea, there happened to be a young woman of great wisdom and knowlage. It was said that she also possesed strange powers of a magical kind, but that has been dismissed as myth, for the great cruel magics are practiced only in the cursed West.

It came to pass that the woman gathered about herself many followers. And they rose up against the foul one who styled himself King over the land, ruling with an iron fist. And they defeated this so-called monarch, and set abouve them to be thier Queen this young woman. But though she ruled justly and well, the country remained uncivilized, for though the land, which came to be known as Wallia, was vast, frost and icy winds blew across barren rock in much of it. And so, the new Queen, using some unknown prosses, created a great wonder. She made what came to be known, and, indeed, still is, as the Sun Dome. This great dome covered the entire great capital city, and there was peace and prosperity.

Many generations came and went, and Kings rose and fell. All were just and fair, and much loved. But it came to pass that a new Queen, bearing a great resemblance to the original Savior in form, arose. Alas, she did not bear this same resemblance in charecter, for she was cruel to the people of Wallia, and exacted unjust punishment without trial, and siezed the peoples’ lands. The citizens of Wallia cried out.

And it was so, that e’en before the Savior’s times, there was another great people. These people were called the Ei-Ethor, or, in the modern toungue, the Dragons. Now they had formed a nation of thier own, and kept to themselves, but a Druid of Wallia, known only as Tuat, journeyed forth and spoke to them, in a plea for help. She told of the cruel Queen, and the Dragons, being a kind and compassionate people, rose up to the assistance of the Wallians. And it came to pass that they defeated the cruel Queen and put her down, but in the process the great Sun Dome was destroyed. Yet then, the great Magics had been rediscovered, and found not evil, as they had been supposed. A great Mage, by the name of Haran Firestone, and his magical companion, the mare Seyla, journeyed to Wallia, and, by unknown magics, created the Sun-Dome once more. And peace and prosperity reined across the land, up untill this day.

Contribution No. 1: Why Coyotes Are Dust-Colored
Long ago, when the world was new, coyote was walking down the road past a blue Lake. He heard a strange wailing, looked in the lake, and saw dusty-colored jay sitting in the lake, singing:
    I came into the lake
I washed and sang this song
    The lake is blue
    Now I am all blue
And as coyote watched, jay stepped out of the lake, and low and behold, he was a beautiful blue color!
Coyote was so excited that he ran to jay and asked him how to be blue. Jay said:
“Every day, for three days, go into this lake and sing the song that you just heard. On the third day, you will be blue.”
And so Coyote did just that. And on the third day, he was blue!
He began to parade around, saying what a handsome coyote he was. He was so happy that he began to run very fast, showing off.
As he was running, he turned around and tryed to see if his shadow was blue, too. But as he did this, he ran into a tree stump, and fell on the ground. When he got back up, all his blue coloring had been covered by dust.
And that is why coyotes today are dust-colored.
