  1. Let’s start with something I like. On its Web site, the American Chemical Society spotlights a Molecule of the Week. This week it’s calcite. How can you resist?

The site’s archives give a roll of honor of molecules from weeks gone by, including April Fool’s Day entries such as mithril, a magically light, strong, precious metal described in The Lord of the Rings.

    Geeky enough for you?

  2. I like cats. I like books. I like feral animals. I like books about cats that are feral animals.

Behold the story that is Warriors.
If you have a problem with talking cats, don’t read. In fact, if you have a problem with cats in general, it’s probably not your thing.

  4. (Is trying not to explode)

I love film noir, for starters…. now add “noir” to everything in the remotely artistic business, and you’ve covered the first fourth.

Now add it to clothing. That’s a whole half.

Now, trash “noir” and you have one last fourth to go. That fourth is too diverse to describe. It’s a buch of random things like “vintage toasters” and “staring menacingly at people in parking lots”.

  5. I’m not allowed to surf, so I cant put on links. But Song in the Silence (sorry, too lazy to look up the author) has cool dragons. A Natural History of Dragons also has good stuff. Also the dragons in books I wrote are cool, but I don’t like adults to read them. I can put it on a site or somthing, but then adults would find it :(

  6. Isn’t it supposed to be thing we hate, not things we heart? If it is, I hate Eragon (as everyone knows), cheap theatricality, and those little black flies that stick on your book and don’t move unless you smash them, creating a mess. I like peaches. I always eat peaches when on museblog, for some reason. Never anything else. And the Mask. And I just started a new book! It is called “Lords of Grass and Thunder” by Gurt Benjamin, about the Mongols. It is really good, so far, but it has some totaly WEIRD magic in it. Like, one of the main charecters’ totem (animal a shamen is assosiated with, and can transform into) is a toad. A TOAD. And she first discovers it by dancing with a broom, don’t ask me why. As apoint of intrest, Chin Tsu, from how you write your totem is a raccoon. Grant O is a fox. Morbid, you’re some kind of cat, maybe a puma. I don’t know about anyone else, but Pheebs I think is a small bird.

  7. I finished Lords of Grass and Thunder. It was okay. A raven tried to eat me today. Those birds are BIG! I wrote a story last year involving Wicked (In the context that the witch in the story makes a phone call to Glinda talking about a job offer on Broadway). My brother has a box of greenbeans now. My dad is reading my other brother a story. My greenbean brother just said, “Muaaaaadaiiieeeaaaahhhh.” I gots to go now. Bye bye.

  8. A raccoon?
I always thought of myself as more of a falcon , but i write weird on the web. If u see me in person u will see how secluded and antisocial i am.

  9. ditto! how I write here is not how I am in real life. Like, if someone here gave me my totem, it would make no sense to me. I guess it only works if you know someone in person. Also, sometimes how you act is not really how you feel…

  10. Chin Tsu, what is GWB? What is okral? I have NO social life, so from now on, everyone has to provide a traslation when they say something like that. It is so sad-I will probably never meet you guys! What a pity the world isn’t nicer. If it was, we wouldn’t have to worry about our info on the net, and we could actually, like, TALK. Really talk. *sigh* I am an idealistic person.

  11. Ooooh!!!!!

I like Old Sturbridge Village, the Renaissance Fair, Lake Sebago, Frans de Waal, Farley Mowat (writer: try Never Cry Wolf) Sweden, Scotland, thistles, costume jewelry, the All Candy Expo, Les Negresses Vertes…and that’s about it.

  12. I like (but don’t “heart”) that these conversations veer off in unexpected directions – like in real life. Also – I am very quiet (I lurked here for a while before posting) – so people think I’m unfriendly. Mostly I’m just afraid I’ll won’t say the right thing (so I don’t say anything)

  13. Hi, Kate! Feel free to express yourself to your heart’s content. No one really noticed me when I came in, so it was fairly easy to become a common Museblogger. Just say what you feel.

Oh, and guys-one of my friends will soon be joining us. I filled her in on the Mostly Harmless/I’m Not Dead Yet plans. Look out for a person named Zyviva (although she is also known as Macha’astastia, Uziva Anebat, and Ember.) I take a risk telling you this-she will probably kill me!

  15. I’ts okay Robert. Sometimes it is good to be on topic. though it is hard to stay there.

I like/heart reading fantasy, reading, books, LotR, The Belgariad, Fantasy books, running cross country, cross country skiing, acting, math and many many other things

  16. I read poetry, especially short poems. That sounds lazy, I guess, as if I don’t like to read. But I like perfectly chosen words.
And, Elasse-Adael, I really like math.

I used to dance, but I’ve hurt my ankle, so I can’t anymore.

  18. I like/heart my combat boots, odd socks, costume design, Shakespeare (speaking of which, Paul Baker deserves some applause for his Hot Pink Bunny Article). And I especially heart my new “Yellow Submarine” tin lunchbox, given to me by the fabulous Beryl of PVCC art department glamour.

  19. I like Phoenix’s poem. (Thank you, Phoenix.) It reminds me that I like autumn. It’s my favorite season, but it doesn’t exist where I live now. We might move to Boston soon. Even though I don’t want to switch schools, I’d like to live in a place with seasons.

  20. I just read Smithsonian, about how in some poor African countries there is still slavery! Horrible! and this guy was going to release 7,000 of his slaves (he was a clan chief) but the govt. wouldn’t let him, b/c they say slavery dosn’t exist!

  22. I like socks and autumn.. where I live, there is basically no autumn or spring- basically we have a 6-month long summer, maybe 1 months of fall, about four months of winter, and two weeks of spring. And it’s humid in the summer, too.

  23. “People say the Australians have the opposite seasons. This is complete bosh-they have their winter in August, same as we do.”
    -Donald Swann/Michael Flanders

I’m not really a sock person. They shrink in the wash, then you wear them and you get blisters because they refuse to stay on, but they are happily clumped around your big toe. So much for socks.

That’s so cool, Phoenix! I never really win much. I hate autumn because I tend to get kind of depressed in the winter, and our principal is ethically opposed to snowdays. What fun is that? It completely obliterates the entire PURPOSE, REASON and JOY DE VIVRE associated with snow.

Okay, now that I’ve done that, I’m going to go eat. Eating is nice. Especially eating Sees’ Candy.

  26. I know- the last time it snowed, I was five years old.
I don’t really like Sees’ (See’s?) since they’re too many flavors in the box that I don’t like..

  27. Actually, Queen -J., winning came as a big surprise to me too. It doesn’t happen often. And most of my poems take much longer to write (and are better) than the one on here, which I composed in about fifteen seconds. My winning one, called ‘Flight’, took me three MONTHS.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  28. wow.. that’s a long time.
can you put “Flight” up here where we could read it, maybe? Or would that be a copyright violation or something?
When I was in seventh grade I won a local concerto competition, but that’s about it..

  29. keep in mind that I wrote this, like, two years ago. My poetic skills have improved.

    Flight
Oh, I would break the surly bonds of earth
and fall yet rise, immersed in infinate blue
and soar through all that modern men call skies
where not a hawk, or even eagle flew.

I’d leave all that I’d ever lived behind
the gentle winds, a breath of life would be
my wings would power like a dolphin’s fins
And all that I had ever missed I’d see.

But envious of flying things I’ll ever be
for only birds were made for this great joy
the grass and earth and water are for me
a human was not made, like them, to fly.

There are one or two bad lines in there that I would correct if I could, but then it wouldn’t be the poem I submitted. Thankee for listening.

  31. Ok here goes’

Come weary traveler, sit by my fire
Come, into the light, out of dark and dire
feel the steady beat of the owls silent wings
and the gentle breeze in the trees and many other things

The stars lift their silver heads high
their tiny lantern gleaming, in the infinite sky
While the fair moon shines apon the empty meadow road
watching and waiting, for seeds not yet been sowed.

Come weary traveler, sit by my fire
Come into the light, out of dark and dire
We do not completely hold the reins
    the beast is somewhat free
for we are on the back of a dragon of faith and destiny

We are all travelers, though some may here and jest
For many times we have face a trying test
You must choose the right road in which to take
but you will surely know it, if in you, you have faith

Come weary traveler, sit by my fire
Come into the the light, out of dark and dire
Empty from your troubled mind all things disruptive and loud
    then lie on the ground
    let sleep be your shroud

    feel free 2 insult me

  32. I enjoy poetry quite a bit, and writing it, but I don’t know if I’m going to put any up, considering it’s gotten a bit violent in the past.

But I do pretty metaphors. (smiles adorably)

  35. Is it my turn! OK, it’s my turn. As you all know from the reviews of my anti-hit fanfick Nenriel, I am not very artistic, ergo nobody likes my writing, which could be, theoretically, because I use too many clauses, which infuriate the reader and cause them to throw up their hands to smash their computer screen, which is excellent for the software industry. Where was I?

    Ah yes, the poem.

    ‘Twas Friday,
And off I went, brave heart beating,
    To my mandatory elective.
    Which is an oxymoron.
‘Twas Friday, so off I went to my
    Mandatory elective.
    Having gotten there,
    I took out my trapper
    Only to hear
    A fire drill.
I hate fire drills. You get grass on your shoes, they waste
class time, and people get uptight about the whole thing.
    Where was I?

  36. nice poems peoples!!

about what i like/heart-random funny random crazy random stuff. Like monty python. Or when you’re sitting in a room with a lot of quiet people and you suddenly yell out “I AM A HOT-PINK BUNNY FAN!!” or “Ni!” or “EAT YOUR WEETABIX!” and everyone stares at you. It’s lots of fun. Yes i’m completely insane. oh yes and I heart chocolate. no like. I HEART CHOCOLATE!!!! yumness!!!! i especially love Easter bunnies. I have strange obssessions w/ bunnies. Don’t ask why. I like/heart the computer. obviously, as i’m on one right now. I like/heart procrastination even though it is way impractical and a very bad thing to do. I like/heart poetry (yay u guys rock!) but not writing it. Oh yes and weetabix. Actually I hate weetabix and I think it tastes nasty (smeagol hates nasty brit bread! *not my quote-my friend harriet’s*) but i have a strange obssession with it anyway.

why do I write long comments??? what is the purpose?? whywhywhywhywhy!!! sry i just can’t seem to write short comments on anything and it drives me crazy cuz it’s like “no way i do not have that long a comment yet” and you then “oh yah guess i did ramble on that long. hehe” it just bugs me. grr. ok sry. shutting up.

  37. Hey Q-J, I like your poem. Very expressively anti-nihilistic communist democratic with hints of Shakespeare etc etc etc. No offense.
I heart the computer and all of its services.
    I heart chocolate and nectarines.
I heart running and autumn, especially running in the autumn.
I heart Muse! And this blog! Everyone here is smart, which is a big difference from the people at my school.
I heart reading. And reading. And reading.
    I heart quizzes.
    What’s my totem?
