There, that should be long enough.

    Cover: Ooh, October! Fun times.

Dear Muse Reader, by Nancy Kangas: [insert usual comment about the flamablamablousness of NaK here]

Contents: Wh-h-h? But… but… it’s a second cover. But it’s not. “I don’t like change!” Ooh, an intern? She’s new, right? She even got to write an article.

Bo’s Page: Hm… I’ve heard of the moon landing one, the tickling one, the swearing one, and the goat one… the sheep one seems logical… I guess the furniture one must be fake. *checks* WHAT?! This is an outrage! This more of an outrage than the last time they shunned the false fact! I demand recompense! I demand retribution!

Muse Mail: Eh, it’s mail. What is there to say? Although Chad does seem to be going slightly insane now.

Kokopelli & Company, by Larry Gonick: Ha ha, funny. Cool shading. Wait, what?! “He”? Monsieur Gonick has once again revealed Pwt’s gender? There’s no more discussion now. Pwt is definitely and incontrovertibly male. Thus endeth the mystery of the Muses’ genders.

“Home Is Where the Heart Liver Brain Is”, by Mary Roach: Haven’t we had excerpts from this book before? I think we have. An interesting–and disgusting–article.

“The Care and Keeping of Stars”, by Gillian Conahan: Ooooh… fusion… *is fascinated*

“Plants That Can Kill You”, by Amy Stewart: Hey, they done snuck a fungus in there! Plants are evil.

Muserology: “One Dollar”, by Sharon Lurye: I’ve heard quite a bit about Cambodia from my geography teachers last year, so it wasn’t terribly new information, but it was still interesting. And sad.

“Monster Mash”, by [EP?]: Ah, classic Halloween. Combined with silent film. But I’d disagree that “in 1925, there was no such thing as a horror movie.” There were certainly horror-type movies before 1925. “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, anyone? “Nosferatu”? Ah, well. I’ll let it go.

“The Shocking and Terrifying True* Story: I Was Buried Alive!“, by “Anita Formicidae”: Man, it seems like whatever way I turn, E.O. Wilson pops up.

Q&A, by Robert Coontz and Rebecca Lasley: Both of those questions were very interesting, as were the answers. A rather generic review, I know, but I liked it.

Contest: “Meet an Amphibian”: I could never draw as well as any of those people. But no one drew Hypnotoad! ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

Last Page: “Space Spooks”: Nebulae are beautiful, in my opinion.

Man, a lot of changes in this issue. A new contents page design, another atrocity of false fact-lacking, an utterance which I consider to be the final nail in the coffin of the mystery of Pwt’s gender. Overall, another excellent issue.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER OCTOBER MUSE SPOILER ACTUALLY NOT THAT MUCH OF A SPOILER.

True story: As I was writing the Bo’s Page with no false fact, I actually thought, “Wow, Piggy is going to hate this!”

But what can I say, I like to keep you guys on your toes.

You know me too well, EP. Strangely enough, I vaguely expected you to expect me to be in an uproar. But I doubt you expected me to expect you to expect me to expect that. Oh, and did you write “Monster Mash”?

Tell everyone to keep up the good work.

I haven’t read the whole thing (I at least try to savor it), but Bo’s Page was very very funny. Home is Where the Heart Liver Brain Is was interesting, but quite gross, as Piggy said.

And Pwt is a BOY?! Glad we got that cleared away, but I really always thought of him as a girl…At least now we won’t have those arguments. This “Koko & Co.” was one of the funnier ones, in my opinion.

First Page: Very, very funny. But when is NaK not funny?
    Contents: Different, but still nice.
Bo’s page: I liked all the facts, but unfortunately I read Piggy’s review on the first so I knew there were no false facts (grrr!!!) Still, it was great that one could have been false, especially the one about fainting goats.
Koko and Co: Hooray Larry Gonick!!!!! The war is over! Peace has been declared! The truth is out and undeniable! Pwt is a boy!!!!
“Home is Where the Heart Liver Brain Is”: Interesting, certainly. Just don’t read it while eating lunch. Still, it was very good.
“The Care and Keeping of Stars”: Pwnsome. That would be so cool if fusion was the energy of the future.
“Plants That Can Kill You”: Very interesting. I saw something about ergot poisoning a long while ago, but I didn’t know about the others. Fascinating!
“One Dollar”: That was crazy. Here, a dollar may get you a candy bar. But over there, a dollar could be a whole day’s wage for kids.
“Monster Mash”: HILARIOUS, especially the Twilight quip. Who did the commentary?
“I Was Buried Alive!”: Odd, but still interesting, especially the part about the global takeover.
Q&A: Good questions, clear and thorough answers.
Contest: Wow, there are talented people out there.
Space Spooks: Sweet! Nebulae stunning, especially with the colors added. I liked the witch and the cat’s eye one. And if you turn the Tarantula Nebula sideways, it looks like a bunny! Aaaaaah!
Overall, another fantastic issue. Thank you!

First Page: Hilarious, as always. I do have a question, though: Was there a Deeper Meaning behind the gray letters that I couldn’t see?

Contents: Yes. Finally. I like it.

Bo’s Page: I was quite disappointed that there was no False Fact. To your credit, the facts were all very interesting, Madam Preston…but please don’t do it again!

Kokopelli and Company: Very funny and I’m glad we’ve got the gender thing straight. This isn’t the first time he’s been assigned a masculine pronoun, though.

Home is Where the Heart Liver Brain is:

Fascinating. Way more than I needed to know, but still quite awesome. Who came up with the gummy bear thing?

The Care and Keeping of Stars: Yay, Cold Fusion! I read about the basics in school quite recently, so it was nice to expand upon the idea. A wonderful article by the New Intern! Congrats, Gillian, and welcome to the mag!

Plants that Can Kill You: Absolutely. Fascinating. Completely awesome.

Muserology: “One Dollar” : So sad. I liked it, though.

Monster Mash: I laughed so hard when I read this. Please do similar things in the future!

The Shocking and Terrifying True Story (etc.): I’m confused. Oh, wait, now I get it… It would have been improved with an explanation.

Q&A: Neat. Lady B., I don’t envy you at all for researching that question.

    Contest: Talented artists.

Last Page: Oooh, pretty! No, wrong word. Beautiful.

Overall: Wonderful. I loved almost everything except the lack of a You-Know-What.
Keep up the good work, ladies and gents. And give Gillian Conahan a Welcome Pie for me.

Hi, friends. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the October issue! To respond to a few people:

Gillian (Muse intern extraordinaire) was only here for the summer, and now she’s back at college. But I’ll pass along your pies to her.

Yes, I assembled the Monster Mash story, and I’m happy to hear it made at least a few people laugh. It was really more like a craft project than a writing project–I had out my scissors and tape and my whole desk was covered in little cut-out pictures. That was a silly day.

This issue was good, except for the whole Pwt being male thing. I still consider en female. and the lack of false facts. The table of contents was different but I’m nuetral about it. I liked the “Home is where the (crossed out stuff- HTML doesn’t like me) brain is”. Too bad there were no history articles. *winks*. *elbows*. *coughs*.

    Yay! Muse featured my question!
Home is Where the Heart Liver Brain is: Wasn’t that gross. I mean, come on, there’s nothing wrong (as in the “scary” sense) with heart donors.

The Care and Keeping of Stars: Fusion is definably something i enjoy reading about. I didn’t know there was two types of fusion.

Monster Mash: Ermm… What? I don’t get this?!?!?!?! How is it funny?

Plants that Can Kill You: Good article. Very informative. If i ever go trekking through the unexplored jungle i will be sure to take my Muse magazine.

The Shocking and Terrifying True Story….: I liked it from the ants perspective!

Overall: I liked i much better then last month’s. Keep up the good work Editors and such!

I don’t think you know how happy I was when I looked at my Muse and realized that it was a scary-themed October issue. Major kudos to you, EP, and the rest of the editors for taking our advice from last year’s mildly disastrous October issue. I really do believe that Muse is/was just going through its “awkward adolescent stage”, and I’m glad that it’s on an upswing. Thanks for that! :)

I really did like this issue. Lots of interesting articles, a new piece of evidence to the Pwt’s gender debate (somebody had better write in about it, and include lots of HPBs – to think that many newer readers don’t know about those conflicts!), and other cool stuff besides. It was fun to read.

Oh, the false facts! I hoped the moon landing one was false (that’s just a bit depressing), I knew the fainting goats was true, for undisclosable reasons, and the flesh-eating furniture–I thought for sure it had to be false, at the same time thinking it was way too freaky not to be true. And simultaneously thinking it would be a good thing to shove into Dr. Who……

Unfortunately, I probably do a wee bit too much semi-casual swearing for the benefits of pain blocking to pay off for me…….

Koko & Co: Hahahahahahahahahahaha, and if we didn’t already have substantial proof (which we did, on at least 2 occasions), Pwt’s gender is now officially indisputable. ha. Male. In case you missed it.

Home is where the hear liver brain is: Um, wait, dropped on the floor and freakin’ washed off and used? Yeep. That’s a bit disturbing. I’d rather, um, y’know, that be one of those things that happens and you just don’t get told about. Other than that, the article didn’t bother me in the least…..blood and guts just don’t get to me.

THe Care and Keeping of Stars: To be honest, I got confused. Too much school, maybe, but…..Definitely a bit to high-tech for me.

Plants: Absolute brilliantly awesomely fascinating. Wait–atropine? I’m positive that that is one of the drugs in the “pre anesthetic” mixture that we use to sedate dogs prior to the administration of pentathol (the IV anesthetic that knocks ’em out). And then after that we intubate and put ’em on gas–isoflurane, I believe. Interesting.

I think I’ll save the rest for later…….
