This sounds like fun: If you send your name to NASA by November 4, they’ll record it on a microchip and launch it on board a spacecraft bound for the Asteroid Belt. Purely symbolic, of course, but not bad as symbolism goes.

Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. what if some aliens find it but they take it as some sort of threat or something and decide to come to earth and find the people with those names and kill them? I’m not doing it. and if i am correct and you all do it, MB will be very lonely without you all.

1- most likely, the aliens won’t realize they’re just names and think it’s some kind of language and come to earth saying “john cassie joe mary ebeth” thinking it means “we come in peace”
2- just joking
3- It’s fun, and if aliens recieved it we’d all probably be dead already anyway, and if not, dying by alien attack is much cooler than, say, global warming.

I sent my name to the Asteroid Belt, but not Mars. Something about my name being around for hundreds of thousands of years, sitting on a silica DVD, frozen in the Martian Arctic, gives me a bad case of the willies. I think there is something alive up there, and I don’t want it to have my name. I hope we never colonize Mars or the Moon; we don’t deserve a second chance to run to, after the earth dies. It isn’t fair; it will make us less considerate of the environment.
But that’s just me.

I don’t understand why so many of you think that beings from other planets want to come here and wipe us out. To judge by the evidence of previous posts, half the people on this blog are from outer space. Juliette, for example, is a self-confessed space alien, and she wouldn’t hurt a– Well, maybe there’s a better example.
