This year, my marching band gets to be one of only 7 high school bands to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. I’m really uber-excited, even though it means having to get up at midnight and go in to the freezing streets of NY to practice. If you guys want to see my band, watch the parade on TV. We’re the gimungus high school AZ band (270 students strong!). We’re the third band in the parade, I think (and I’m in the second row, eek). We’ll have a minute of air-time on NBC to do our show, which is Hoe Down from the ballet Rodeo. (unfortunately, we’re not doing our normal show, which is The Who)
Also, we get to be in the audience for the Today Show on Nov. 24. Brilliant Mostly Harmless Idea I’m going to make a PWT PWNS sign to hold up in the audience. Then our awesomeness will be broadcasted over national TV !!!! (if my sign gets caught on camera, which isn’t that likely, but hey, we’ll try)

o I’m really pysched. I tried to sleep last night but didn’t so well. I will have to sleep on the flight to NY (it’s a red eye), because as soon as we get off, we go straight into a bus tour. Then we get 4 hrs of sleep (8-midnight) get up, go out to start rehearsal at 1 in the morining, start the parade at 9:30, march for 2 miles, and THEN get to Harold Square and do out show. It’s gonna be fun.
So everyone watch for the 3rd band in the Macy’s day parade. That’s us. And watch the Today Show on the 24th for the PWT PWNS sign that I’ll be holding up in the audience.

I saw them, too. I was ironing a pile of shirts with the parade on TV and looked up and there they were. Way to go, Nancy!

Well, I watched the start of the parade to see if I could catch her, but i don’t hink so. Unless she was behind the big Snoopy?

Yeah, that is true. Well, we could cheet a bit and just do whiped cream in pie tins. Like, have the people walking near the float(like the editors and our dear GAPA) have a pie tin and a few cans of whiped cream. Then every now and then they could pie the audiance and each other! Of cource, Koko would have real pies. He’d pie everyone. Maybe the TV people too. Mwahaha! And all the muses would be on the float, and it would eb covered with(fake) back issues of muse! People could hand out subscription cards too. Am I going overboard with this? Oh well, it’s fun!

Around 8:30 the Today Show anchors are yammering away in front of a Christmas tree that blocks most of the live audience from sight. Then, suddenly, a sign slides into view and stays there throughout the segment — perfectly situated just above Ann Curry’s left shoulder — announcing unmistakably in bold blue letters: PWT PWNS!
Ah, brilliant. Plan “Mostly Harmless” is unfolding right on schedule.

You can see the sign on Part 5 of Today’s morning netcast at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12495633/ . It’s right near the beginning of the segment. TSN covered her face very quickly when she saw the camera swinging toward her, or maybe she was just cold.

over thanksgiving my uncle shared how one of his first jobs had been at macy’s. apparently he had been offered the chance to be in the parade, but he decided it wasn’t worth getting up at four am for. especially since as being in the parade is an honor so there is no pay.
in the approximate words of my mother after eight is an honor. before seven they had better pay me.
we shoudl so have a muse float! we could have a big float that says muse on it and the Pm’s could all dress up as their muse and the other mbers and devoted musers could dress up as pies or be cool people readinfg muse.

And thanks for all the nice things you guys said about about our band. For those who asked, yes, it was the 3rd one in blue and white with soggy bedraggled looking plumes. It was so cold! It rained and a lot of woodwind instuments were damaged. But it was hecka fun anyway coz the crowd was cheering and all the floats were awesome!
