Some MBers have asked Rebecca and Robert to create CafePress shirts with their signatures on them. We think that’s a great idea. Send your signatures in electronic form (scanned or created with a tablet or a drawing program) to gapa@musefanpage.com, and we’ll compile them all into a big file and slap them on the backs of various items of Musewear. The deadline is blog closedown* on Wednesday, December 20. No last names on the signatures, please–blognames and/or first name plus last initial only.

(19, 20) For size, the main thing is to make sure the shapes are clear and the lines aren’t too thin. If you can make the drawing at least 200 pixels high, it would help. Even bigger is OK. It’s generally easier to reduce than enlarge.
The space on the shirt is 10 x 10 inches, so well adjust sizes as necessary for the signatures to fit and harmonize with each other.

I used the word “drawing” in my previous comment to specify that the actual signature be at least that tall, not just the outer dimensions of the file. Sorry if I confused you. Drawing and writing are often the same thing in my world.

AAARRGGG!!! I was going to just use the black ink and put some purple around my name with the purple pen, but i just realized i lost the instructions for filling the pen. i have no idea now. Oh wait! I just learned that instead of ink, i can use “paint thinned to an inky consistancy”. YES! do i have any purple paint?

well. i just punctured a hole in the small end of the ink cartridge so that ink will come out. hope that’s what i’m supposed to do.
okay, it didn’t work. *ask mom* mom punctured a bigger hole, stuck it in the nib, pushed really hard, put the cap on and whacked it against the table a few times. and…. it worked! ink came out! then… it stopped. i tried poking the hole in with a toothpick. rinsing the whole thing out with water. and nothing worked. so guess what: I GIVE UP.

It says either scanned or created with a tablet or drawing program. Where would one find a tablet or drawing program?
a tablet is like a hi-tech computer screen. you use a stylus to draw right on the screen and it turns into words and stuff. usually the only way to use one is to buy it. most libraries have scanners, though.
drawing programs are your basic art programs. it would be really hard to write legibly on one though.
47- Use a drawing program on your computer, or scan it in at your school and e-mail it to yourself!
48- We all have a free drawing program that works quite nicely. It’s called “paint” and you can find it if you go to “start” “programs” “accessories”. It should be there if you have windows.

Oh dear. I shall have to froodify my rather boring signature in Photoshop, and then I’ll send it out. Is it supposed to be 200 px both ways, or only height? Ah, whatever, I’ll just make it bigger and you can scale it down.
(58) Yes, it’s amazing how well one can draw or write with a mouse with a little practice.
Photoshop’s PSD format is fine, or any standard bitmap like JPG, PNG, TIFF, &c. The uppercase letters should be at least an inch tall at 200 dpi, though larger is even better.

Mine is in a kewl calligraphy-type font. I wrote it on the comp, then printed it out the biggest i could make it. then i traced it and colored it and added some flourishes. It’s just the right color purple with silver swirles. It may sound like i’m bragging, but it is really awesome. It took me forever.

Thanks, Margaret. My third-grade teacher always flunked me for handwriting, without helping me improve, so this is some kind of belated, twisted revenge.
I long ago gave up trying to learn calligraphy in the conventional way. There was not much instruction available for left-handers at the time and my lettering never matched the right-handed demonstrations in the books. Finally, I just made up my own rules and wrote and wrote and wrote until I could achieve consistent results I liked freehand.

I’m a lefty. My writing always gets smudged and whenever i’ve been writing a lot i have pen/pencil smudges all over the sides of the fingers on my left hand. very annouying.

what do you mean by a simpler version?
In the simpler version the signatures are the same, but there’s nothing at the top. Instead, there’s text at the bottom that includes “MuseBlog” and the line about “awaiting moderation.”
The signatures do look great, don’t they? I could hardly wait to open each new file that came in, never knowing what to expect. Together they make a lively and delightful group portrait.
