We’re back, having converted the file to MP3 format. Let’s see if that works better. Now, where were we? Oh, yes…
Not content with soap sculpture, Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan, with the help of Kiki the Great, have turned their talents to audio production. With luck, you’ll be able to listen to a sound file of their MuseCast by clicking here.
Yayayayayay!!!!!!!!!!! Go ahead, GAPAs, zap this post for pointlessness, but I’m just so excited that it’s on! And I’m so excited to see what people think!!!!! Squeeeeeeeeeee! Alright. Sorry. A bit too much excitement…. hehe
it takes a while to load indeed.. either that or my computer’s being stupid againe..
It wasn’t bad when I tested it at home while waiting for permission to post it, but I suspect several people are competing for the file right now. You might have better luck later. It takes six or seven minutes to play.
Oh coolnessness!
AGG! It won’t play.
um, Robert, it _still_ hasn’t loaded for me. _other_ music is downloading just fine..
okay, maybe I shouldn’t have said that last part.. twas only one song from my friend..
It worked fine on my computer…
It was so much fun to make!
Taiwan Hippo Fan and I were thinking we would make them a bit shorter to make them load more quickly. Would that work?
We’ve never posted a podcast before. It probably just needs to be converted into a friendlier format. I’ll look into it…
Okay. I want to watch it real bad.
Warning: THIS PODCAST IS EXTREMELY CHEESY. LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK.
We’re trying to fix this problem in the next one, though, (to be released in February)
I err… stole it and it is in .aiff.
What plays that becuase what I have doesn’t play? In anything.
Could you make the others in .mp3 or .wav?
I’m going to try to listen to it from the web, no download and the projected finish time was 11:00 peaked at 16:30 and is at 15:13 and falling.
That’s one HUGE file.
*gets on knees and begs and grovels for an .mp3 version*
It keeps saying ‘this audio format is not supported. Please try again.’ I KEPT TRYING AND IT STILL WOULDN’T WORK! Ahh!
Right, we’ve changed the format. Let’s see if it works better as an MP3 file.
GAHHH!!
BRILLIANT!!
Purple Panda, Taiwan Hippo Fan, Kiki the Great–you guys are my heroes!!! It was beautiful!
The song at the beginning was awesome, and so was Kiki’s it made me laugh. And a lovely rendition of the first kokopelli and company, and thanks for wishing me a happy birthday!
Great job you guys!
lol.
worked fine for me. i like the subliminal advert for koko. two pies in every face….. and ummm you sound weird. but thats about it. nicely done though. i like. as you said, its a podcast. so… any way to get it on itunes? you know, as a podcast?
It was great!
Who sang in the beginning?
Wow. Love it!
I sang in the beginning. The volume got a little bit messed up there, but oh well.
We sent the podcast the iTunes podcasting thing, they just need to “review” it before they put it on. I’m not really sure how the whole thing works.
It was really fun to make, but it took a lot of time. And even though it’s only about 6 minutes, the file was so big we couldn’t figure out how to email it, so we burned it onto a disk and mailed it to Robert. We’re looking into alternative solutions for the future.
Oh! by the way…Robert – how did the soap hpb and origami wung fare in the mail? Did you like them?
Also, we’d like suggestions for future MuseCasts. (we’re already working on the cheese).
It’s still not on iTunes. *cry* I’m watching the old “Ask a Ninja” Podcasts well I wait. When did you upload it?
(19),
The wung, the soap bunny, and the origami bunny all arrived in fine shape and are beautiful. I’ll repack the soap bunny and send it to Rosanne, as it’s named after her.
there are four other MuseCasts on iTunes… YOU STOLE OUR SHINY NAME!!!!
That was totally Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like it! It is good!
Robert – it’s named after Rosanne, because she’s your colleague, and you can have her with you all the time. It would be hard to have something that’s named after yourself. It’s for you!
Hahahahaha!!!!! I lurve it! I especially liked the part where your dad came in and said, “Yuck! Disgusting!” I was sitting there listening to it, and I was like, Whoa! Um, I don’t think that’s them… And then I found out it wasn’t and was I’m like, Oh, that’s better. Lol. Good job, girls!!!
Ahhhhhh, that was awesome!! It pwns!! That’s sweet that you’re sending it in to iTunes…That was so cool! And speaking of Kokonventions…I know I keep saying this, but we need to have one where more people can come.
Flamablamablous!! Totally!
That’s great! I think there was a vague brit accent in the beginning for some reason. Or maybe it’s just me. Nice voice pp!
what about MY VOICE?? *sob* j/k
Was that Purple Panda singing at the beginning? Your voice is so high. Compared to my really low one, anyway. xD ♥
You and THF have such official sounding voices, like the interviewer on NPR or whatever, and then Kiki’s voice sounds like the person being interviewed over the phone.
I’m going to try it now.
It worked. But it won’t stop!
Oh there it goes. It’s really cool!
That is really great.
Cool!!! I think – maybe – it’s now in my iTunes, but it might not be. I know it’s saved somewhere on the computer. It sounds so professional! With the violin and stuff.
I’m in the February MuseCast. I can’t tell you what it’s about though. *secrecy* Also, PP and THF made a website where they’ll post the podcasts so people can hear. If one of them sends the link, you could post it.
(25),
Thanks,
THPTHF. That’s very thoughtful. As you know, Rosanne and I live on opposite coasts about 3,000 miles apart, so I don’t get to see nearly as much of her as I’d like to. I’m hoping we can get together next month while I’m at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in San Francisco. Yo, Ro’! Going to AAAS?37 – *ahem* it’s THF, not THP. But, erm… you’re welcome?
30 – Yeah. We were trying to do that. We’re trying to fix it up so that we sound like real people in the next one.
26 – *laughs* Yeah. I’m terrible at saying that, and we know from experience that he is,
so we asked him to do it. And he did.
21, 25: I am deeply honored to have an HPB soap named after me. Thank you, THF and PP! I am sure the bunny soap will bring Robert much joy.
37: Robert: Great news that you’ll be in the neighborhood. We’ll have to get together!
I don’t know if I’m going to the conference. I haven’t taken a good look at the program yet. Any “can’t miss” talks or events you’d recommend??
That’s wicked freaking awesome!
36-o-o! ME ME ME!!! I wanna see the website!!
37 – you called her THP again. She had a bird. Ha!
By the way, during the “Happy Birthday” section of the MuseCast, that is Taiwan Hippo Fan playing violin, and me playing Piano. Was very fun.
I couldn’t find the site. I did, however, stumble upon an iTunes web-page asking you if you wanted to upload the podcast. So basically I could’ve hacked that by click ok and uploading a different file.
*flips out* The internet just isn’t safe.
(38, 42),
I don’t know why I keep doing that. You may just have to change your name to Taiwan Hippo Phan.
WHO SANG IT???!!!! The singing was great. Whoever sang it was very talented. Wow Kiki, you sound so young! This is great. I wish I had some musebloogers around here… ;_;
This is lovely. Nice music.
36- I WANT TO BE IN IT PEOPLE!!!!!! IT IS SOOOOO SPECIALLL!!!!!
Sorry for the triple post… But…..Ah well….
Anyways, I am so happy to be a museblogger. Otherwise I would miss all of this!
Just to let you know that the podcast was greatly appreciated on the other side of the Atlantic. Nice production. There are a few people heading for careers in the media, I reckon. More, please!
I turned it off after the first 5 second… :S
We finished episode #2, for February. But you won’t see (hear) that until February.
Just to clear things up for everyone, here is “who said what” in the MuseCast.
-Purple Panda wrote and sang the song in the beginning.
-Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan (and our dad) performed the KoKoCo.
-Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan played the happy birthday song on Violin and Piano.
-Kiki The Great talked about Kokonventions and wrote and sang her Muse song.
-Purple Panda recited the stuff for the Kokopelli advertisement.
Did I miss anything?
44 – I like that. I might keep it for a while, in fact. It’ll be an inside joke of sorts.
48 – Thank you so much. We’re trying to make it a monthly podcast. We would probably do it more often, but we have to send it in a disk by mail, so it can’t be as often – we’re trying to get a few done at a time.
49 – That’s okay. If you don’t like it or don’t want to listen to it, fine. It’s not as if you’re paying for it, or something.
(50, 51) Great job all around! I especially admired the pacing and variety — some professionals should take note. Excellent music choices as well. Can’t wait to hear the next one.
(Just so you’ll know, my last name is pronounced LASS-lee.)
Yeah…really sorry about mispronounciation. We weren’t sure how to pronounce it.
Sorry!
52 – I was wondering about that. Panda always says it Lay-Slee, and I always say it Laz-lee, and we were trying to figure out how to say it for the podcast. So next year, we’ll get it right!
That was SOOOOOO froody! my only objection is that kiki kept saying awesome, when froody would have been more appropriate. Would it be possible for everyone to participate in future MuseCasts, like mabe we could all send recordings to the GAPAs and they could put them together. or something.
Speaking of GAPAs, how do you actualy pronounce GAPA? on the musecast someone i think kiki said it as one word, but I’ve always pronounced it as the letters G-A-P-A. What does everyone else say?
I’ve always assumed it rhymed with “Frank Zappa” and the Greek letter kappa.
I say it as one word. Rhyming with Kappa.
If you can get parental permission for your voice to be on a MuseCast, I guess you could somehow send something to the GAPAs and they could send it to us to put in. Right now, the only people who we can have participate are the people who we have (gasp!) made contact with. (do not try this at home, the GAPAs will not be happy).
55 – I say Administrator or Gapa, (one word.) I never really thought about it, I guess. Yes, it would be froody if everyone could be in it. But you can probably send it to [snip. –Admin.] (MuseCast’s email address) although there is no way the OEADs (By the way, I say OEAD O-E-A-D, not ode, or however you would say that) will allow me to post that. But you can send it to the Administrators, and they can send it to us. I wish we could interview you all – but alas, that is not to be. *tear*
(53, 54) No problem. You were close. I’ve heard Lazy, Lasso, Lashley, Lastly, among others. Once someone introduced my mom as Mrs. Buzzby.
From time to time I thought about dropping my last name and going by my middle name, Graham, instead, or else adopting the name of my alter ego: Leslie Graham.
Could have been worse. My dad likes to say they considered naming me Leslie Lasley or Wesley Ashley Lasley.
57: why should you need parentla permission for your voice??
I liked MuseCast a lot. It was really fun, especially the live performance of Koko&Co.
45- I am young. 11, to be exact. Go fifth graders.
That was SO great! Yeah, awesomeness. fun!
I’ve been writing Muse themed lyrics to songs I know (right now I’m trying to do You Raise Me Up). I’ll work on it some more and if I finish a song, I’ll record it and send it to you guys. &heart;
Also, I subscribed to it on iTunes so now I’m listening to it again.
I forgot the s.
♥
Also, your dad was hilarious.
55- I ptonounce it G-A-P-As Ryming with Gee ay pee ays.
62-I was eleven in sixth grade…
I always thought that AEIOU’s name was pronounced I ay oo.
Sort of rhyming with I ate you.
What does muse cast need that I could do? For any of them?
I would love to be a part of it.
Ack! It’s not working!
I usually say the letters in Aeiou out. I have toyed with saying “ay-ee-ou,” though.
64- how did you subscribe? it’s not on itunes yet!
70 ~ Yes it is. I’ll PM you the link.
67 – If you can think of anything interesting to say, (a factoid, a Muse song, a book/movie/whatever review, anything you think is interesting) you can send it to the OEADs, and they’ll send it to us. We’ll put it on one of the MuseCasts.
I think it’s pronounced Ah-Ay-Ee-Oh-Oo, because she’s Asian, (Taoist, to be exact – I think) and that’s how you pronounce those vowels in Asian languages. Oh well.
I can say definitively that the Kokoninofied pronunciation of Aeiou’s name, the one that all the editors use, is “A-E-I-O-U” — like reciting the vowels. If she minds, she’s never said so.
(Of course, that could be why she never talks. Maybe she’s taken a vow of silence until somebody pronounces her name correctly.)
73- doesn’t it say that it’s pronounced “A-E-I-O-U” like the English vowels on the guide to something or another on here? Somewhere? Like, a dictionary-type guide?
https://musefanpage.com/NewFiles/glossary.html
Yep.
“Aeiou (pronounced A-E-I-O-U): Muse of Software; tidy, orderly, never talks.”
It lies, though, since used to talk.
She never talked very much, and she never talks nowadays.
GEEZ LOUISE! I canNOT get my voice recorder to work! GEEZ!!!
I think I will find some random facts. My friend (we’ll just call her Kay) thinks I’m the queen of random facts. She asks me for a new one every day. Did you know that the color red doesn’t really make bulls mad? They’re really COLORBLIND.
In fact, most mammals are colorblind. Primates, our branch of the family tree, are the only ones that have good color vision.
That may seem odd, because many other animals (birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish) have excellent color vision, but it’s part of an interesting story. Evolutionary biologists think that our ancient pre-mammalian ancestors, the ones we share with those other creatures, had color vision, too, but that early mammals lost it in order to see better in the dark. Why the dark? Because bigger, more aggressive dinosaurs would eat any mammals careless enough to go out in daylight. Only within the past few tens of millions of years have a few mammals’ eyes re-aquired the sensitivity to color that non-mammals have been enjoying all along. Bulls aren’t among the lucky few.
So that “random” fact really isn’t random.
Darn.
78 – I love having the Q&A columnists or whatever that word is as the GAPAs. They know everything interesting.
No offense, Capricious.
Finally got it to work! Great job guys!
Haha!!! cool.
The song at the end should be Kokopelli’s theme song. I liked the “subliminal” messages at the end.
59-wow. I’m glad they chose Rebecca. It’s a nice name.
80-Just because they’re Q&A columnists doesn’t mean they know everything. or even everything important. in fact, Robert once made a horrible mistake in his column. I think it was in September or somewhere around there.
I would love to do something for the MuseCast, but I have no idea what. Definitely not singng.
Really? Horrible?
83 – I wasn’t saying that they knew everything, or that they were perfect. I was exadgerating, however you spell that, about “everything”
We are fairly well informed, though, and we try to be careful. Horrible, eh?
“if you’re submerged and weigh the same as the water around you”
I call that horrible. Someone doing a column like that should know the difference between weight and density.
Hey! That was my question, too! What was wrong with it? *science brain goes to work*
Ah, I see. I suppose I did cut a corner with that sentence. I could have said “weigh the same as an equivalent volume of the water around you,” but I figured Musers would assume that was what I was talking about.
We don’t have much room on the Q&A page, and the editors are always
naggingreminding us to leave room for Slug to draw his pictures, so every word has to count. I didn’t want to define “density,” because I was already defining “neutral buoyancy.” Besides, unlike water, a human being doesn’t have a uniform density. To be accurate, I’d have had to say “your flesh and bones and blood and the air in your lungs and everything you are wearing or carrying (air tanks, weight belt, etc.) have the same average density as the water around you”–and that would have been 25% of a column right there. So I took a shortcut and just talked about weight. It was a deliberate compromise, but I didn’t think it was horribly misleading. I hereby apologize to anyone who felt horribly misled.
well i don’t think you had to go into quite tht much detail, but you could have said “are the same density as” instead of “weigh the same as” that doesn’t take up any more space than what you said, and is much closer to accurate. I wasn’t misled, but I was shocked that you could make such an error. I remember when I first saw it I had to read it 5 times to make sure I had read it right, then spent a few minutes thinking about it to make sure I wasn’t just confused, then went to find my dad to make sure he agreed with me that it was wronng because he knows more about science than I do, the when he said I was right I became very annoyed with Muse and with you (Robert) and I have hated you ever since.
Wow. As a Q&A columnist I expect a few pies in the face from time to time, but undying hatred? That’s pretty extreme.
Anyway, be assured that I really do know what density is. (As a former hydrologist, I’ve had to do a fair number of calculations involving the density of water.) I “wrote around” the word because it’s a technical term and I didn’t have room to define it. That may have been a bad call, but it wasn’t a failure of understanding–at least not in this case.
89- I think that it was an excelent idea to use volume, becuase otherwise ther would’ve been no room for the accual answer to the question. Am I right?
91- It’s okay, everyone else loves you.
GASP!!!!!!!!!! *gasp!*
ACK!!!!!!!!
*pies emma with thousands of pies made my Mimi, with extra friendliness added*
Hatred?!!??! Robert?!?!?!? Those two words should DEFINITELY not go in the same sentence. Definitely.
91- Okay then, I forgive you, at least mostly.
Darn, I need to listen to musecast later, Well that was certainly the most interesting thread I have read all day. Well it’s the only thread I’ve read all the way through today. Certainly I wish to help with musecast but alas, I don’t have much time or know where in proxmity everyone is. We are mostly scattered. I also remember a comment I had posted in the mostly harmless thread when I had orginally joined for using a podcast to put mostly harmless in motion. Tra la la la la!
The February one is very froody. and funny. and less cheesy. I’m in it!
After we had made the podcast, but before it came to MuseBlog, I noticed that Sweet Melpomene made a post in an April Foolerythat only said, “There should be a Muse podcast!”
I think that’s so cool.
Why does everyone say *pies*?
(99),
The asterisks indicate an action. “Pies” is a short way of referring to applying a pie to someone’s face, a traditional MuseBlog greeting.
You’re the same person as idiot, ginger, and duck, aren’t you? In that case, it would be wasteful for you to get pies for each of your aliases–not that there’s any shortage around here.
This is getting off topic of Muse Casts!!!
Anyways, I just wanted to say that I LOVED the MuseCast!! It was soooooo KEWL!!! I’d like to contribute but I don’t know how I would. *sigh*
THF and Panda, tell me if you want me to do anything for MuseCasts.
Danke! (Thank you)
59- I’ve pronounced it Laslee, I think. Though sometimes my es’s sound like zee’s when I talk fast. I’ve also noticed that sometimes when I say words with D’s in the middle, I do a little toung flippy thing sort of like the rrr’s in spanish. Dunno why.
I think that we’ll be sending Robert the next two MuseCasts relatively soon… not sure, though. We might take a bit longer and send him February, March, and April… Gah. I don’t know.
102 – Whenever an R comes after a TH, I roll the R. Some words that you ought to hear me say: Thrice, three, bathroom, throw, throb, thrill, thread, thrift, through, threat, throat, Catharine, (pronounced Kath-rin)…. the list goes on. If I repeat these words over and over again, you can kind of hear that I try to get the regular ugly R sound, sounding more like a W. Oh well.
We’re mass-making them because we haven’t figured out a way to get them to him other than to burn a disk and mail it.
I subscribed on iTunes. It’s loudly crisp!! (I am trying to substitute “loudly crisp” for “incredibly cool”, with more success online than in real life)
I can’t see it.
I wrote down a bunch of fun random facts- but can’t record them! *sob* my dad needs to HELP MEEE!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hmm. A lot of pronunciation issues.
Personally, myself, I say lahzlee, ayoo, and gahpah (why bother with the s anyway?).
Lol, suppose I should put in translations: Lasley, Aeiou, and GAPA.
/gradster(1)
I don’t know if anyone remembers me (I haven’t been around for like a year), but I just wanted to say that SEUSSICAL is pretty much my favorite.
Hi, Duncan_Quagmire. Good to see you again.
kiki the AWESOME- us suburbial-chicagoans NEED IN A LARGE AND MASSIVEFUL AND ENORMOUSISH WAY to have another kokonvention. It would be beautiful and lovely if we could! and other people MUST COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya know, if they live around there.
What state?…
Are you sure you haven’t been on in a year, Duncan_Quagmire? I’ve only been here since September and I think i remember you……
DQ made a brief appearance on July Jubilation, Part 2. Before that, he was on Poems and Songs last April. Before that, I haven’t checked.
that was GREAT!!!
feel proud THP(or THF) and Purple panda and kiki the Great as your muse cast has reached new zealand!!! happy days!!!
*clap*
