wow, cool graphs, purple panda! I came in March, along with lots of other people, it seems…I wonder why it’s so popular?
Is this 2006? i’m not on here! *goes off to cry quietly in a corner*
Er…. didn’t you post this a while ago already? Nevermind that though, it’s KEWL.
Yea, I remember seeing it before too, are the graphs updated?
Even if they’re not, they’re very interesting. There seems to be a boom of newcomers during spring and fall, but not much in summer or winter.
What about those of us who joined right when the new MuseBlog started (after Gaboomba?)
Question: can Koko throw a pie chart?
–
Kokopelli could throw a pie chart pie. (Y’know, a pie filled with pie charts.)
5- LOL.
Cool. I think someone should do a chart by month from the start of MB, like withseparating August 2005 and 2006. I could do that. I think I will.
Someone should do a graph indicating musers awesomeness. You’d have a big tall line right above FS, and then a slightly lower one above DLOD. Or at least an ego chart. Then I can be first.
NEATO!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY! Yea! COOL! 8) . But I’m not on there yet! I think there will be an evident surge of people on the graph for this year in Febuary, bcause there seemed to be lots of people coming in when I did. :D :D :D
i came on in january, i think, posting as weirdalyankovic. psychotic name, in retrospect.
9- Ture for the second bit at least, lol.
w00t!! One of the few in Feb! Or is it January? Nah, I’m pretty sure I came in feb. I always mix that up, though.
Thanks for the thanks!
Weren’t these same graphs already posted on this thread?
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=620
By golly, you’re right. Oh, well, at least this way a lot of new MBers have had a look at them.
They could probably stand some updating. Oh well.
I did make some graphs about the amount of posts in random threads and the amount of threads per month that I sent you, though.
yeah. i came in march. yesterday 2 b exact.
9- Someone’s a meany.
PP (15),
Sorry, those are the ones we meant to post here. We got confused (not unusual). We’ll format and post the number-of-post and number-of-threads graphs as soon as we get a chance.
Ah, that makes more sence. I thught they looked fimilar, but I thought maybe you had added a month or two. *awaits arival of new graphs*
5 – That’s not a pie chart. It’s a cone chart. We just have an overhead view of it.
11- how so?
That took forever, and my hand is beginning to cramp, but I moved all the youngish musers starting dates into an Excel spreadsheet, one by one. Now I guess I’ll make a graph. And send them. I am one of three July starting Musers.
To respond to DAVIDUDE: How do you know that? Do cone charts even exist? Ahhh…..now I have to go find something random to post…be back later…
I sent my charts in. Then I noticed a newcomer on the sidebar. MuseBlog grows faster than it can be graphed!
22 – Totallyrandom, that was a joke .
23 – Yea, it does. I calculated that in order for Muse to stay in buisness, at least 5,000 people have to subscribe. There are probably more like 10,000 though. That’s a lot of Musers!
I came in October out of sheer boredom. I have not regretted it!
24- There are many more, young Grasshopper. (But am I the young one, at the tender age of 10 years, 8 months, 6 days, 6 hours, and 36 minutes [or so] ?)
Hasn’t MB been around for more than a year? if so then I think some months would be counted twice in that thing.
25 – Grasshopper? Huh?
Here’s the graph we meant to post. (Sorry, Purple Panda: only one was attached to your e-mail message.)
Robert-That’s OK, everybody seems to be sending things in right now.
Now, onto anylyzing the graph…
I may say that March is the thread with the most posts, which makes semse: lots of newbies come in March, then they all go post on the random thread wondering what’s going on-it’s only natural for them to do that. Then, there were 12 fewer posts in April, meaning one of three things: People were too busy to post, the newbies realized what they were doing so they didn’t hide in the random thread, or a newbie decided we were to geeky for them, and they left, leaving 12 posts blank that they would have filled.
Now, I am puzzled at the next three biggest months, as none of them are big growth months, in fact, Febuary is the smallest growth month. also, January was a slightly larger growth month, by four people, but its random thread was almost 1,000 posts smaller! It is the SMALLEST thread! Hmmm… OK, I’ll stop for now to see if anybody else wants to anylyze!
28 – Okies, I’ll see if I can send it again.
March was definitely the largest newbie-populated month, probably because of MG’s letter.
Wait! This just in! Purple Panda’s thread-count graph has turned up! Here it is:
(Sorry, PP: things have been a little discombobulated around here.)
makes .0 sense to me!
plz do not try to explain it!
And here, just arrived, is Dodecahedron’s (curious and questioning’s) analysis of MuseBlog generations:
WOW! Nice graphs, all! Robert- you must be busy this morning!
By the way- I know I mis-spelled “sense”, so please don’t post about that. Actually, “semse” is kind of a nice word, now that I think about it.
What does “Gaboomba” mean? If that’s when MB started, then I can be part of the 2-year party!
Anylazation:
December, Jan. + Feb. were the same ( ) , but March is way down. I hope we get enough newbies to even get to where we were last month! Well, last March was a big increase. What’s up with big March growth?
34- that was when MG’s letter plugging the blog was printed. Every time there’s a link in the magazine, we get a surge.
As for gaboomba, see http://musefanpage.com/NewFiles/messages.html .
29- some of the decreases probably came from the backlash against pointless posting. On a lot of those months with a lot of posts, we had people making posts containing only one letter, stuff like “hi” with nothing else, etc, in order to drive up the post count. And that annoyed many people, and there was a bit of a backlash against it.
yeah i came bcuz of a link in the mag.
*PIE*
34- This March isn’t over yet, and there were some newbies (I’m sure five at least) that came but weren’t on the Who’s Here page yet.
im a newbie
*SuddenlypiesallespeciallyhypermoocowbutotherthanthatisjustpieingrandomlyandthenrunsawaylaughingevilylikeYAYYAYYAYYAYYAY*
25- It’s a really weird saying.
It’s from an old 1960s- or 1970s-era TV show called “Kung Fu.” The hero keeps having flashbacks to his youth as a trainee in a Shaolin martial-arts monastery, where his old master used to call him Grasshopper. “Patience, Grasshopper. Can the sea hate the rock? Can the sky hate the cloud?” That sort of thing.
So whenever I say “Patience, Grasshopper” to a MBer who complains about slow moderation, that’s what I’m referring to.
21 – because it’s not quite as “epic” as SoulForged. i mean, Weird Al Yankovic is a, well, weird accordianist who started his career by making a song called “my bologna” which is a parody of my sharona. SoulForged, on the other hand, is a song by Blind Guardian, one of the most epic powermetal bands ever. (they’re right up there with Iced Earth and DragonForce.) so you see, weirdalyankovic is kind of an odd blogname.
I think I came about a month before the bandwagon arrived…sweet. Do you guys remember that insanely long random thread last February? Didn’t it have, like, 700-something posts? It took my comp about five min to load the thing!
44 – I don’t personally remember that, because I came in March
**OMG I just realized it’s my one-year anniverssary! Squee!**
but I remember, when going through the random threads and counting the number of posts, that many of the threads had 500+ posts on them.
whoa!!!
You miss one day at the MuseBlog, and everything changes! Whaa! I’ll have to stay up at least till 9 to read the 500+ new posts.
Awesome graphs, everybody!
33 – Am I on there?
And geez, was there some huge publicity stunt in March 06? (That also explains the record number of threads in April 06 – more MBers need more threads to blog on! )
omg, did u ace math class, or graph class, if they even have 1?
43: BG are way above DF. Do not attempt to put DF on the same level as BG. Or the metal gods will strike you down.
48 – whatever. i have a formula for showing that DF is the most “powery” powermetal band ever. So we all agree that velocity times mass equals force, or power, right? so the weight of DF’s guitars (pretty heavy) times how fast they play (u can’t c their fingers) equals extreme power. even so, at a certain point, speed overrules mass, so just how fast they play makes them the most powerish band ever. hehehe.
49: Ummm… Dude. Without power tools and studio wankery the guys in DF can’t play bollocks. I’ve been playing for over 2 years and I’m as fast and as sloppy as they are. Heavy and fast my arse. You want heavy and speed? Go listen to Zakk Wylde on Black Label Society. You want melody and emotion? Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica. DF are utter bull compared to these bands. And yes, I can see their fingers.
[Retroactively snipped. –Admin.]
Does this really belong on this thread, guys?
Cool graphs, now that I’m not having daja vu (sp?). Aww… look at all of MG’s children!! The march one’s were hers, definatly. But then she laft because of it. *sentimental moment*
But those aren’t the generations, they’re just the months in which people arrived. Generations are different.
53- yeah. I think someone should make mg style graphs.
51-i can only think of two things that could mean and both are exceedingly inappropriate. Do enlighten me as to which it is.
watup????????????????
?????????????????????
Wasn’t March 06 when there was the contest that was blogging about the Implicit Association Test? So lots of people came then.
55 – birdie. that’s all i’m going 2 say.
frankly, i’m surprised it got through moderation.
Ooh! When did I come in??!!!??!
Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx!
Wow, I’ve been on MB for a year. Kind of hard to believe in a way.
My one year ann. on muse was… two days ago. Lol
My 1-year anniverssary was on the 10th…2 days ago
I came on November 3rd, 2006.
9-lawl. *feels loved*
48- also lawl. yeah. Df are like new. and they totally sold out.
*feels old and alone*
65 – My one-week anniversary is today.
56- Yup. That was the issue with Montgomery Gurl’s letter too, where she advertized MB. So we got a ton of newbies. But we love them anyway, as long as they don’t PoPo.
WOA! I missed my one-month anniversary! It was yesterday. See?
dont the gapas zap stuff like 56?
Sometimes, but we can’t spend all our time policing the blog. For the most part, MBers themselves are responsible for what winds up here.
really?
i thought at some point you said you got a lot of spam.
We do. That’s usually easy to spot (though sometimes it comes in disguise). Pointless posts are more of a judgment call, and we tend to leave them alone–though from time to time I’ll zap a few “First post!!!” posts as a matter of principle.
ROBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY THE ***** DID YOU ZAP MY POST WITH ALL THE MRGREENS AND TELLING U MY OTHER BLOG NAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I also switched my name from Dracasting to Harmless Stingray
(75),
You mean this one?
75 – why the hell d’ya post all those smileys? you shut down our HTML practice area! grrrrrr!
