They tell u it calms everybody diown if u go 2 artspace in nc.they als have a batik class, which i took. first it was a stable 4 ur horse and buggie when u went to town (1909) and then it was a car dealership until 1978 (Snyders car dealership, did a brisk buisness, too) and now its artspace, a place where visitors can watch artists at work.

  8. (8) press333 — a MuseBlogger in NC? O frabjous day, if so. Have you seen the work of Mary Edna Fraser? Some of her batiks based on aerial views of the Outer Banks are amazing. She had a fabulous flamablamablous exhibit at the gallery where I do some occasional work.

  9. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I traditionally celebrate by eating and/or cereal with green milk. It looks vaguely disturbing, but you gotta go with tradition.

Limericks are Irish, aren’t they? Here are two by Morris Bishop:

There’s a girl out in Center Moriches
Who keeps all the neighbors in stitches
    She swims down to Islip
    And borrows a dry slip,
    And bicycles home without breeches!

    A joker who haunts Monticello,
    Is really a terrible fellow;
    In the midst of caresses,
    He fills ladies’ dresses
With garter snakes, ice cubes, and Jell-O

  10. I’m not wearing much green, sorry. I’m in black gouchos(sp?) and a nice white shirt from solo&ensamble and a black sweater. I also have on a neclace my mom lent me with grrn jade and gold, so that counts I guess. :) Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  15. the green face is  i think. if that worked, then it’s :mrgren: but with green spelled green instead of gren. If mine didn’t work, then don’t bother trying it. I’m not sure about the clovers. let’s try &clovers; since that’s how you do hearts i think.
Anyways, I painted my nails green.

  18. I hate the way people call it “St. Patty’s day” or “Leprechaun’s day”. I’m probablly the most Irish person in my whole school, and I find it annoying and, actually, a little bit offensive. I used to live in Ireland, and …argh…

I refused to wear green today. I wore pink.

  21. St. Patrick’s day, as far as i am concerned, is not something 2 be celebrated. people generally celebrate it because they say that he drove all the snakes out of ireland, and therefore he is a saint. but let me tell u something else: snakes are very often symbolic of Paganism! you getting what this means? “Saint” Patrick drove all the Pagans out of ireland! why? BECAUSE HE WAS [snip] PREJUDICED, THAT’S WHY!! (i know i should probably take this rant 2 the religions thread, but i saw this thread and just couldn’t resist.

  22. BTW, there’s a typo in the title. it says, “by one MB’s insistent request”, but it’s supposed to be (i think), “by one MBer’s insistent request. just pointing that out.

  23. The poor GAPAs have had to do a lot of “snipping” lately. May I point out that it not only gives the MAPs a lot of work, but also makes MBers look bad. So please stop making a lot of work for the dear OEADs! RtH

  25. 38- Seriously? That’s not cool. I didn’t know that. And I like snakes… actually, didn’t know what St. Patrick did at all. *feels bad* My friend is Pagan…

  30. I really don’t understand what St. Patrick actually did. Saint Sebastian, I get. Ditto with St. Nicholas. But what is Patrick the patron saint of?

    I’m underinformed about Catholic saints.

  32. (55),

He seems to have actually existed and to have led an interesting life — kidnapped into slavery, shipped to Ireland, escaped, returned there later as a missionary, long career, natural death, no martyrdom. Wikipedia (of course) gives juicy details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick%2C_Saint .

  33. It was clever of Patrick to take the credit, but no one in Ireland had ever seen a snake when he lived there. Scientists have figured out that glaciers wiped out the snakes during the last Ice Age. When the glaciers melted about 12,000 years ago, the Irish Sea rose before more snakes could wiggle across from Britain.

  34. I have this little card type thing that says “The Legend of St. Patrick.”

    Here’s what it says:

“St. Patrick was a man of God
    who came to Erin’s land
With a loving prayer within his heart,
and a shamrock in his hand.
    He used the three-leafed shamrock
to help all the people see
How there could be three persons
    in the Holy Trinity.
And the faith the Irish learned from him
    today can still be found-
    A heritige as lovely
    as the countryside around.”

  35. 60 – I hate to boast, but could I just mention that I have now succeeded in expelling the last sabre-toothed tiger from Britain? These dangerous beasts will no longer threaten the denizens of this fair isle.

(Well, it’s worth a try. If it was good enough for Patrick….)

    :-)
