Kokonventions Kokontinued

Here’s our policy about meeting other MBers offline:

  • MuseBlog’s administrators do not encourage you to do it.
  • We won’t help you plan to do it.
  • If you insist on holding a real-world meeting, your parents must plan it and supervise it.
  • To assure us that they are involved, your parents should e-mail us at the gapas @ gmail.com. We will help them exchange e-mail addresses, and they can take it from there.
  • Any details about meetings (exact time and place, what you’ll be wearing, etc.) must stay off the blog. Please don’t try to post them. We won’t let you.
  • After a Kokonvention, we will post photographs of Kokonvening MBers with parental permission.
  • That’s all we will do.

Your friends,
The GAPAs

GAPAs, what are the rules for over 18 MBers? I wouldn’t discuss any kokovention details on the blog, but I was wondering if there were any other rules? I’m mostly wondering this because I’ve met Penty (given that she goes to my school) and I was curious where that sort of thing fell.

And….GAPAs? Post name WIN. That was a very punny fun.
You took the “Kokon” from “Kokonvention” and affixed it to the beginning on the word “Continued” and made it “Kokontinued”.

Sorry, I have a thing for those Delicious Dish SNL skits.

I live nearish to Chicago, and will be here all summer (except perhaps one week in august when we might take a vacation). If anyone’s coming to Chicago, et me know, and even if I can’t meet with you I can give you some good tips on places to visit in the city.

Hopefully at the end of August I will be able to meet up with Fiddler when the tall ships come in. Mom wants to but if we have to leave earlier than expected to get to my college… uhg. But it hopefully will be fine, and Kiki may make it down to the tall ships too, so there’d be 3 of us :D

Also, during most of the school year I will be in Ohio. Going to college not-impossibly-far from ebeth and Julia which has the potential for meetups if any of us get a car or rides back and forth so woo.

Okay, not sure I’m free uhg, as that week holds both my mother’s birthday and my graduation party and I’m already going into the city this coming week.

But if I’m not free I can definitely give suggestions on fun places to visit! Millennium park, the Shedd aquarium, etc. Also, there’s going to be 3 firework displays in the city on the fourth (rather than one big one on the third as it previously used to be) so you should be able to see those pretty well.

I just read the Kokonvention guidelines and realized that we’ve broken just about every single one for this meeting. My parent’s knew that I was going to get together with Grant and Ebeth sometime this summer, but not when, and it was more like “Hey, we’re going to do this, it’s going to be fun, thought you should know.” No parents are present, and the GAPAs didn’t sanction it. *sigh* But we’re all legally adults, so I guess it’s okay.

Hence late Random Thread. Hence photo-posting delays. But tomorrow is the weekend, and then I shall post pictures even if the house burns down and I have to take my laptop to Panera.

  25. Jade and Eboo and Grant and Lizzie says:

Hiii! Jade here. We are back at Grant’s! He made us pasta, yum. And we have CANDY now so I am satisfied. We went to an art museum and a pastry shop (how very muserly of us!). We also wandered a thrift store, whee. Also they are making fun of the fact that after I ate the spaghetti I made all the sauce into a perfect ring along the edge of the bowl. It is TOTALLY NORMAL BEHAVIOR OKAY.

Hellooo! it’s ebeth. full of yummy foods! we had a very muserly day in art museums and thrift stores and JADE IS TOTALLY OCD! lizzie is dancing to tim minchin now. and yeah. fun times!

Hi! This is Lizzie. Grant is a very good pasta cook. And we bought chocolate and stuff and it is good. And now Jade and Ebeth are singing along to Tim Minchin. They know all the words, even in the fast parts. And Grant is washing dishes which is very nice of him. And they are totally real people and very nice kidnappers.

Jade again- Lizzie and I are now singing Heartache over Innsmouth at each other and it is the best.

I hardly did anything, I boiled water, put things in it, and nuked the sauce. Grant, by the way. Went to the art museum, saw lots of lovely stuff, including my very favorite room, the Armor Court. Went to little Italy, I had tiramisu. Attempted to go thrifting, could only find one store and that was sadly lacking in the awesome hats department. Returned back here, I made food, everyone ate it, I did the dishes, and then it was now and then I don’t know what happened. Great fun overall!!

    CALIFORNIA KOKONVENTION?

My family is returning to California, where we used to live, in November for my almost-cousins’ bar and bat mitzvahs (they’re twins). I don’t remember the exact dates, but I can find them, and safe to say that we’ll be in the Northern part of the state, especially near the San Francisco Bay (that’s not too specific, right?). ‘K… (I hope this is okay with Quafflebird)

After a bit of wrangling with the Singapore bus system (and the lady at the service counter who wouldn’t give me a map) I met Quafflebird at the school where she was debating. We took the bus back to the MRT station and then took the MRT (like a cheaper subway system) to Orchard Road- one of Singapore’s main shopping districts-, where we ate in a food court, and then walked around looking at the obscenely cartooned holiday decorations that had been put up. Seriously. Mickey Mouse with reindeer. If you want to get technical, I had pork rib noodles and Quafflebird had fried rice.

Quafflebird, if you see this, please please please send me the pictures!

        Funny fact of my life:
My mom keeps thinking I’m saying “gokon” when I say “kokon”. This is hilariously apt. Gokons are a Japanese thing… I don’t know how to describe it very well, but basically what it is is some people that know each other have a party, and each of them brings five or six people that don’t know each other… So let’s say that I bring six girls I know and whomever else, let’s assume en is a boy, brings six boys he knows… It’s kind of like blind dating but not quite. Robert, and anyone else who might be in Washington, D.C.! I just figured out our schedule for the coming week (lots of trains)- I’m going to be in D.C. Wednesday and Thursday. Would it be possible to meet up either of those days?

I’m also going to be in New York City, on Saturday and Sunday (the 28th and the 29th). Some of that is college tours and visiting relatives, but if anyone can meet up, I’d love to, and I’ll try my best to make a schedule work!

Sorry for the ridiculously short notice. We leave tomorrow and I am so, so excited.

    • I’ll be at work both days and will be happy to schedule a tour of Science news headquarters whenever I’m not in a meeting. Any after-hours get-together would constitute a Kokonvention and would require parental permission for pre-collegiate MBers.

    • No sign of Choklit Orange so far.

CO, if you want to watch USA vs. Germany in the World Cup tomorrow (Thursday), your best bet is to head up to Dupont Circle. There will be big screens and an excited crowd. Starting at 11:30, that will be the place to be.

I want to know if you do meet up! I remember visiting Robert at Science. It was great!

I’m back! Sorry- I’ve been without WiFi for a while. I don’t think I can actually meet up after hours, as we’re leaving tomorrow night- but a tour of Science sounds wonderful (as does the soccer; I may have to drag my sports-shy parents to that)!

Robert, could I stop by your office between 3 and 4 tomorrow afternoon? If that’s at all inconvenient, I can probably come at any other time, as all I have planned is itinerant tourism.

There’s a great gelato shop in that neighborhood, too.

I would just like to say as some kind of PSA that if anyone is in Chicago during the school year for any reason I would love to kokon.
