Welcome, Neophytes! (August 2010 edition)

If you’re new on the blog, please stop by this thread and say pie — er, hi.

We recommend that newcomers (that’s what “neophytes” means) look over The Rules and The HG2MB (Hitchhiker’s Guide to MuseBlog).

Next, if you’re so minded, stop by Who’s Here (see the menu at the top of your screen) and announce your arrival in a comment there, so we’ll be sure to add you to the official list.

MuseBlog Veterans: Please use this thread only to welcome newcomers as they arrive and answer questions that they ask.

  1. So how does one get a picture? Not that my stylish, purple, poor sighted, star thing isn’t dear to me, but I would like a far more personalized avatar.

  2. Wait, can you do that without an account? *has not been here long enough to create one*

    1. I’m afraid not, no. It only takes about five minutes to get an account on Gravatar, though.

      1. Oh! Wait, I see what you mean now. You do not need a MuseBlog account to have a Gravatar account. They’re two completely unrelated things.

  3. Okay, thanks. And sorry for sounding confusing.
How do I get the avatar onto MB?
Wait, never mind! I clicked ‘Preview,’ and it seems to be there already. How’s that? Oh, wait. It must be WordPress or something.

  4. Hey I’m new here, is there anything I should now or can I just start posting?

@ Bibliophile: Are you Ima? I’m Trixy!

  5. Yes! I’m Ima! Hi, Trixy! And fireandhemlock!
As stated on July’s random thread, MuseBlog is behind the rest of the Internet on ratio of correct to incorrect spellings of Gandhi’s name. Maybe if you post often enough we can catch up! Since it’s in your username, I mean. It’s a good idea! Even though I doubt you even knew about it beforehand at all.

  6. Hi! Yeah… I think I noticed you say you were about a year ago. Somehow, I managed to remember… My mind remembers strange, random things.

  11. OMGPIKACHU!! *squee* I love Pikachu so much I could just punt the little electric runt across a few football fields. But seriously, I love Pikachu and all Pokemon games (they’re naming the new ones Black & White. The cake?). One thing I’ve learned from experience: NEVER bring a Pokemon to the bathroom – he might Pik-ach’-u.

Hi, Errata’s sister! Nice to make your virtual acquaintance.
We do have a lot of sibling neophytes arriving, don’t we?

      1. Indeed. It’s happened to me many times. Best to avoid this situation – it can lead to uncomfortable discussions between you and your Pokemon.

        1. Castle, every time I see your extended name I see it as Kevin Rudd, the former prime minister of Australia. It confuses me.

        2. NO- wait, I asked somebody what Pokemon the would be, and they said Pikachu so every time they sneeze, it’s like pik-ACHOO!

  12. Apologies :)

Changed to Dynamite – I like that better anyway.
Speaking of nothing to do with Kevin Rudd, are you Australian yourself or just rather scholarly? I, for one, didn’t even know the had a prime minister.

      1. It follows your email. As long as you correctly type in your email (and it’s the same email) your gravatar will work on any computer.

    1. OMG WELCOM!!!!!! You must be new. Please be aware that bad grammar is frowned upon here. And by frowned upon, we mean you will be pied. Here’s a sample!!

      1. Pies are a traditional greeting, actually. They are also often used as rewards or symbols of affection, so you wouldn’t pie them for using bad grammar. Most likely a PoPoPo would fine the offender.

        1. Or you can pie someone who disagrees with you in some way. Usually in the form of not liking your favorite book.

          1. Hm. True. Still, even then they seem mostly friendly. I’ve never seen pies used as a serious form of punishment.

            1. No, not really. Actually, I think that for of pieing is normally used by the person disagreeing with everybody, as shorthand for ‘I know I’m disagreeing and you can pie me all you like, it won’t change my mind’.
Of course, all of this conversation is completely off topic.

    2. Hello! Welcome! Yes, you are on MuseBlog. A few pointers- we usually don’t use chat speak, and apostrophes, proper spelling, and proper grammar are appreciated greatly, as is proper capitalization, though I see you know how to use caps lock. Everything else you need to know is in those little tabs at the top- check out the rules and the HG2MB (Hitchhiker’s Guide to MuseBlog). Pretty much everything else comes from experience.
Well, once again, welcome!    :!:
