Arrg, ye mateys! Thar Hawthorn be getting repairs, for tomorrow we set sail for Zucchini Isle. She be a fine ship, for though her masts be made o’ sticks and her stern has no wood, and she be made o’ zucchini, she be pretty with her bowsprit made o’ flowers and her sails o’ zucchini leaves…

Yo-Ho, me hearty! Me ship o’ zucchini be pointy, ’tis true, but me ship be strong and hearty. Ye may be wanting to keep out o’ the way of the sails, ’tis true, but me ship be designed just like a schooner, almost. Arrr, as long as you be not speared on the hawthorns, it be easy to sail upon the briny deep!

Ay yeh lubbardly younkers! Whaddaya doin’ this finest o’ days?
B’damn me, but I usually log some sort o’ lesson for the betterment o’ yer minds an’ fer learnin’ ‘bou some o’ the finer points o’ sailin’ the seas. After the attempt t’ teach yeh poor ungrateful brats then I customarily sing yiz a song ’bout haulin’ on lines or somesuch unforgivin’ labor a poor sailor endures, or maybe about some buxom young lassie a-sittin’ on Jack’s knee ter welcome ‘im home.
But I must admit, though it pains me full sore, I hav’nt any idea in me noggin as ter what I should edumacate yiz wi’. Is there any among ye that’s got a hankerin’ ter hear about a particular sommmat about the sea? If someone’d be kind enough ter gimme a subject I’ll spin off tails for hours on it, yes indeedy I would wi’ another tankard o’ that delicious marlinspike punch ter lube-ree-cate me poor dry gullet.

12.1~ Ay, ’tis sadly true that the waters I’m accustomed to navigatin’ are fresh, but I do know the sting of the salt spray an’ the turn o’ the tide, for I’ve logged some little time on the oceans o’ the world. Perhaps next year I’ll set to findin’ me fortune upon the boundin’ main instead o’ the far-stretchin’ lakes.
Have ye a topic fer me teh elaborate upon? I’m fresh outta ideas, perhaps I been splicin’ the mainbrace a little too long already, for me head’s feeling a little light.

So how shall MuseBlog go about doin’ this? Be quick, lads, I haven`t got all tide! Shall we keep remnants o’ today into next high tide’ onto th’ threads? I know that Demigod an’ Embi wouldna appreciate an infusion o’ Sea dog; but this thread certainly shall.

13.1~ Wee-ul, the galley wench that passed fer a cook on me last voyage were quiet good, but I’ve sailed wi’ other cooks what thinks that because I don’ partake o’ the meat that I must be enamored o’ tofu. Now, I’m as fond o’ food from the far off lands o’ China as anyone here, but tofu gets tiresome after awhile, if ye catch me drift. That an’ tempeh, me ol’ buddy Ray fixed me up tempeh fer every meal. But then he got fired (in leiu of keelhauling) when he right near poison’ed the rest o’ the crew. That were after I abandoned ship though tae sail wi’ the foreigners from ol’ Germany. Oh mates, the stories I could tell abou’ them! Yeh’d not believe it for a moment, though I swear ‘twould be the Lord’s own truth, wi’out too much wanton embellishment…

Argh, well as the hour’s drawin’ nigh tae start the parties, I’ll leave yiz wi’ some songs that’s been bouncin’ ’round in me head fer th’ past hour or so. Work first, then a tune tae sing for tomorrow when yer nursin’ a sore head after a night o’ merriment. Goodnight me doves, I’ll se ye in the mornin’!

    Heave Away Me Johnnies
Oh there’s some that’s bound for New York Town and some that’s bond for France,
Heave away me Johnnies, heave away!
And some are bound for the Bengal Bay,
To teach them whales a dance.
    Heave away me bully boys,
    We’re all bound to go!

Oh the captain he’s a waiting for the turning of the tide,
Heave away me Johnnies, heave away!
And then me girl’s we’ll be gone again
With the good and Westerly wind,
    Heave away me bully boys,
    We’re all bound to go!

So it’s fare thee well ya Kingston girls, farewell St. Andrew’s dock.
Heave away me Johnnies, heave away!
    If ever we return again
    We’ll make your cradles rock!
    Heave away me bully boys,
    We’re all bound to go!

So come all you hard-weather sailin’ men, that’s round the Cape o’ Horn
Heave away me Johnnies, heave away!
Be sure where your boots and your oilskins are,
Of you’ll wish you never was born.
    Heave away me bully boys,
    We’re all bound to go!

    the Sailor’s Prayer

This dirty town has been my home
Since last time I was sailin’,
But I’ll not stay another day,
    I’d sooner be a whailin’.

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.

Paid off me score, and then ashore
    Me money soon was flyin’.
With Judy Lee all on me knee,
    And in my ear a-lyin’.

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.

With me newfound friends, me money spends
    Just as fast as winkin’.
But when I make to clear the slate,
    The landlord says “keep drinkin’.”

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.

With me payoff gone and clothes in pawn
    And Judy set for leavin’,
Six months of pay’s gone in three days,
    But Judy isn’t grievin’.

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.

When the crimp comes round I’ll take his pound
And his hand I’ll be shakin’.
Tomorrow morn sail for the Horn,
Just as the dawn is breakin’.

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.

Yes for one last trip from port I’ll ship
But this time back I’m swearin’
I’ll settle down in my hometown,
    No more I’ll go seafarin’.

Oh Lord above, send down a dove,
With beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats, or them there blokes,
What sells bad beer to sailors.
