The second installment of September’s random thread commemorates a time when the GAPAs were young: the Seventies. That’s the 1970s in three cases, the 1570s in the fourth. From left to right: Robert, Rosanne, Rebecca, Paul. Laughter permitted.
(Users’ Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!

Ooh, nice picture… First post?
Hmm… I should really go work on my research proposal… I have a feeling even once I’ve broken all of my research into the very basics, the person reading it (who knows nothing about math) will have no clue what I’m talking about.
I like the pic. It’s always fun to see pictures of the GAPAs when they were younger….
Awesome picture!
The 15070s?? *is scared* Is Paul a Time Lord?
Shame shame shame shame…. I can’t believe people burned the Qur’an on 9/11 as a protest.
My mom says that only three churches actually did do it after all, though. I am now thoroughly ashamed of Tennessee. (the three churches/groups/whatever were ALL in TN, at least according to my mom’s source. Dx UGH.)
(I know this should probably go on the Hot Topics thread, but I typed it in here already, so….)
Why did a 0 get in between the 5 and the 7? *headdesk*
I forgot to say, but Rosanne looks a lot like my friend Kirsten.
Huh.
I am often told that I look a lot like someone else that someone else knows. And I often wonder if that happens to a lot of other people.
Yeah, it happens to me all the time.
All the GAPAs are Time Lords.
Huh, I thought at least one of them was in Florida.
You could always move to MA!
No, the one in Florida that was SO CONTREVERSIAL(sp?) and all over the news was wisely cancelled.
I want to move to MA. xD But my parents aren’t convinced. Yet.
You should move to CALIFORNIA.
No, MASSACHUSETTS. Because we have billions upon billions of MuseBloggers here. Really. I think ’tis because of our state’s abbreviation?
Enc & Fireh- I heard the one in Florida was cancelled because the guy who was organizing it claimed he heard from the guy building the Mosque at ground zero agreed to move it. Which is strange, because he didn’t.
Yeah, I heard about that on a comedy show. “Isn’t it funny that the voice in Pastor Jones’s head turned out to be a Muslim?”
♥ ♥ ♥ Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!
Me too! *hug*
That’s one of the only podcasts/radio shows I listen to. *group hug for everyone who likes Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me*
I Love it!
YAY GROUP HUG
(5 days late, but whatever.)
shiny graphic!
littlerobert looks exactly like i imagined…although he’s shown littleself pictures before, so maybe i was just remembering
i spent like ten minutes staring at it trying to figure out which was rosanne and which was rebecca…and then i noticed the caption. but i ended up being right!
none of you look particularly groovy though…robert, what’s with the suit? rebecca, rosanne, no hippie flower crowns? paul at least has the retro thing going
Ebeth,
That was my senior picture for my yearbook. Everybody dressed up for those. I could probably find some more informal pictures from about the same time if I rummaged around long enough in old shoe boxes.
PLEASE DO
that would be fun. find pictures with [insert a bunch more stereotypes about the 70s]!
You might be disappointed. I’ve never been into stereotypes.
I’d say Paul has a Deep Retro thing going.
The three R-GAPAs are all represented by their senior pictures, in part because someone recently made a request to see them and in part because the original idea was to do kind of a yearbook page. But there are others, though speaking for myself, my most adventurous attire never appeared in photos. I had to get past my mom, who wouldn’t allow me to even OWN a pair of blue jeans because she thought they were trashy. (She eventually got over that.)
Funny, because it’s the complete opposite now. At my school, most seniors wear silly hats and make faces for their “official” school pictures, because they get a professional senior picture that will replace it in the yearbook anyways.
For our senior pictures all the girls were required to put on a pastel-colored (mine was blue) thing supplied by the photographer that appeared in the photos like the top of an elegant ball gown but in reality was two sheets of polyester fabric crisscrossed somehow I don’t remember and supposedly secured by tucking into your bra. I ran into a problem because I didn’t wear a bra. (Solved by tucking it into the top of my jeans.) Now that I think about it, I wonder what girls who wore dresses did. It all seems so crazy!
Groovy picture.
Fireh – I agree…I can’t believe anyone would do that. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if some Muslims burned the Bible? They’d probably be sent to Guantanamo or be sued and be thrown in jail for twenty-five years.
Argh. That was a momentary spurt of brainpower but I kind of regret that thought now.
Whoa, fast moderation.
Luck of the draw.
Nice picture!
I have ‘Mikazuki’ in Japanese Kanji on my hand (Thanks, Shinigami!). It is awesome. Mikazuki means ‘New Moon’ in Japanese( Not a twilight reference. ).
Of course not. It’s an astronomy reference.
LittleGAPAs are all so adorable! :3
I like the picture! Rosanne looks a lot like my friend Aubree.
RAR. I just spent half an hour trekking through the puckerbrush* looking for my dog. By the time we found her, we were at the railroad tracks. So, being annoyed with following the routes we had before, we decided to trek into a medow/more puckerbrush and blackraspberry bushes, a more direct route to the house, but an addmittedly more covered-in-puckerbrush one. It was chest high, and full of ragweed,a plant my mom is allergic to. I fell down when we were almost there, and got a mouthfull of ragweed. I have pollen allergies, so this was not good.
Erm. *moooan* Pretty tired now. Cookies to anyone who read this.
Sorry. *hugs*
Robert looks like a combination of my friend Justin (who I’ve mentioned must be a clone of Robert) and Dr. Liske from the ESO.
The Muses are hard to discern, though. I definitely see Mimi and Urania and Crraw. Or is that an upside-down Feather? Hm…
The intended Muses are Mimi, Urania, and Feather, but I would never put it past any of them to slip in without telling me.
Hm. I see Urania and Koko.
Ooh, nice picture, as usual! *gives choklit to Bunniful* Paul is 480 years old!? Rosanne is pretty…
You’re welcome.
I do believe my previous comment was caught in the spam filter.
i like that picture. but “mostly harmless”??? i don’t get it.
skunk: Others can explain “Mostly Harmless” to you. For now, I’ll just say that it goes far back in MuseBlog history, and beyond.

i see mimi on this
Far out groovy picture!*
*Definition: a picture with hill and valleys that’s a great distance away, but still visible.
–or–
Really cool picture!**
**Definition: a froze–… er, never mind. : ) ((Love the picture, Rebecca!))
(10) Are you saying that Paul was 40 years old as a teenager in 1570? Wow, the definition of teenager sure was different in the fifteen hundreds.
This should be on the fail thread, but it’s going here: Piggy, at first I thought your
Gravatar was Beethoven; then I read your post.
Paul Baker’s relationship to time is different from most people’s and appears to be incomprehensible verging on paradoxical. The rest of us have long ago given up trying to figure it out.
Wooooaaahhhh psychedelic! But why is Mimi eating Rosanne’s head?
*huggsssssss*
To everyone who gave advice about AP euro: Thanks so much! Really! Sincerely! Truly! I’ve decided to take it, and your input really made the decision a whole lot easier. At least eight people dropped out of my class, and six dropped out of the other one, so my class is smaller, which probably means everything will get explained better. But thank you! Really really really! THANK YOU!
Cat’s Meow (or was it Cat’s Eye?)- We’re learning about the Protestant Reformation.
Maths Lover- Failing in my school is 65%, and I’m a sophomore.
It was Cat’s Meow. The awesome one.
And, oh yeah, we’re probably going to do that next. We’re still in the Renaissance right now, but we’ve already made notecards for the Protestant Reformation.
Maths Lover (from the last thread): “Sorry if this sounds weird, but I thought you were the same person until a few months ago.”
Heh, I would probably think the same thing if it wasn’t me. No, I can assure you, we are completely different people. (or are we? *shiftyeyes*)
We did the Renaissance over the summer. I just finished my vocab, and should read the chapter, but I really need to catch up on sleep… Oh well. Let me know if you need any help with anything, I guess we’ll be a chapter ahead of you for the year.
Well, hopefully we’ll catch up by the test. But thanks for the offer.
Actually, I thought you were the same person as well until a few days before everyone started talking about it. Now it’s extremely hard to tell the difference between you, because you have exactly the same voice in my mind as I read your posts…
Ooh! Can I have the British-accent voice to differentiate? Please, please, please?
About this all: I dunno, I mainly tell who people are by their avatars. (It’s a visual learner thing, I think. And yes, I do get very confused when people change their avatars, and start thinking of them as having a different personality. The same thing happens with album covers on my iPod.) And Meow having a cat, and me having an Apple of Discord, I think of us as two different people.
Hm. If I changed my avatar to Meow’s, would I think we were the same person?
Well, I think of us as two different people as well, but couldn’t that just be because I’m part of the us and I know you’re not me and I’m not you?
We are all one in the Great Woven Beyond…
Well, I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
I tend to do that too, just glance at their avatar instead of actually reading out their name.
This gets confusing. I’m trying to improve.
I’ve been dipping into a very interesting book about the Reformation. It’s called A World Lit Only by Fire, by William Manchester, and it tells some good stories that I haven’t heard anywhere else. It does an excellent job of showing how weird things were back then.
That’s the book that my class read for summer homework! We’re “book-clubbing” it now over the course of the next few weeks. And yes, it is very interesting, and yes, things were extraordinarily bizarre.
Mimi is not eating my head! She is telling me a secret.
Roseanne- He’s telling you a secret… into your hair? (Just kidding.)
Robert- I’m surprisingly finding this time period very interesting; I think I’ll pick up that book from the library. For some reason, I love periods of time when people go against the church and religion. I just finished Inherit the Wind and loved it, though the end was abrupt and overdramatic.
So tired from being off at X University all day for research… Meh. I read a proof and got the first few steps of a proof my advisor wants me to write up for next week… Also have to revise my proposal. Bleh. I have a nice shiny title, now, though! “Stable Expansions of the Integers.” Terribly exciting, isn’t it?
Woah, groovy! I like it a lot.
I can remember back in 9th grade when our History teacher asked our class to name something that happened in the 1970s (Not in any context, she just said to name something.) My hand shot up, so she called on me.
“The first Star Wars movie came out!”
And since that is completely true and accurate, she told me I was right and went on asking other people.
Nice picture!
Tomorrow I am auditioning for 13 the Musical. It would be my first musical, but third theater production. Wish me luck!
Wicked is rapidly moving up on my top musicals list the more I watch it!

Welcome, TMFA! Heartiest congratulations from all the Administrators!
Whee! I’m on stage crew for the musical! (Les Mis, in case anyone’s interested. I think my friend Terpsichore is going to get an actual role!)
I love the pic! And I have no doubt that Master Paul would be immortalized in a stained-glass window. My two working theories are that some sorceress trapped his soul in there after learning all his secrets (this is after his MuseBlog years, obviously, when he begins to travel back in time), or that a poor peasant village encountered him and spent all their savings on making sure that the world would know his image for all time.
I am finding the fact that I’m not worried about the fact I have 3 tests Monday and Tuesday next week, plus a group spanish project next Wednesday (and then Spanish test next Friday), plus a test tomorrow, mildly worrying. Where’s my normal “Oh, cake, I have x tests in y number of days, and oh god I’ve not studied anywhere near enough and I’m going to FAIL!” attitude? Because I’ve not studied for any of next week’s tests (I have a smidge for tomorrow’s, but I think it’ll be fairly easy). I should be freaking out. But I’m not. I got an 83% on our first physic’s lab. I should be freaking out (hello, 83 is not good….). But again, I’m not.
And this really isn’t good, because as stressful as freaking out is, at least when I freak out, it gives me motivation to study my butt off and learn the material. If I can’t muster the whatever it is I need to freak out, study slacks way off, and test grades plummet (or at least aren’t near as good as they could be). So, yeah, bit worrying that I’m not worried.
I’d say it was because, if the GPA calculator online for my school is accurate, I can get 13 hours of B-‘s and 19 hours of C’s without my GPA dropping below 3.3 (barely, mind you, it would make it 3.3007), but that’s hardly made a differenc ein the past–I was freaking majorly last semester, even though I calculated I could get Bs in all of last semester’s classes (plus all the remaining ones) and still keep above 3.3. (Yes, 3.3 is a magic number–if I drop below it, I lose my guaranteed place in vet school…which would be bad. My school only excepted 60 out of state students last year, out of about 600 something out of state applicants. So really wouldn’t do to lose my guaranteed spot.)
So, yes, I am actually worrying over the fact that I’m not worried. Although, really, not worrying over it as much as I should, because not only can I not find any part of me intelligent enough to be worried about failing these tests I can’t even find a part of me interested enough to be worried about not being worried.
Meh. I’m rambling. *really needs somebody to force her to study for animal phys, physics, and accounting this weekend*
I’m taking online honors US History this semester. Unfortunately for those of us who occasionally procrastinate, they only give you due dates for the end of a “module” (unit) rather than for each assignment. So, guess who budgeted her time badly for this module and ended up doing 6 assignments starting at 8:00 tonight, including a powerpoint, a 300-word essay, and 200-word essay, several blog posts and a test?
That’s right, Tess did.
I got to the test at 11:51 (the module is due today–or rather, yesterday, at this point), did the 20 or so multiple choice questions in about four minutes flat, and then saw the three “answer with a 200-word essay question.” Great. Fabulous. Well, I was done by 12:06, but those were some of the worst essays (read: rambles) I have ever written.
Everyone looks very nice. And that’s saying something- usually I can’t see beauty in sepia.
Rebecca looks exactly like a Rebecca! I don’t know why. You just look like Rebeccas are supposed to look.
Paul also looks very nice. Although I would recommend shaving the mustache. No offence.
Ouch. School is like having someone put your brain into a jar and shake it up and down very hard and very fast. And then they fish the brain out and just leave it lying on the floor and people come and step on it.
I should probably end the metaphor.
Indeed…you really do look just like a Rebecca. In fact, Robert looks like a Robert. You can’t see a lot of PB&J, but he looks very proper and Paul-ish.
I am proud to be homeschooled – here it’s more like getting my brain gently massaged, and occasionally squeezed in the wrong place, causing my left leg to fling upwards. ‘Tis an interesting life I lead.
I also have a nice idea for a MuseBlog motto. Perhaps I shall go post it where it belongs.
*sigh* Sorry about the rapid-fire double post.
I can’t find the MuseBlog mottos thread. Oh well, here it is.
You don’t have to crazy to blog here –
BUT IT HELPS!
I’ve always felt like a Robert, though for some reason people like to call me by other names — usually Richard or Arthur. Maybe it’s my regal bearing.
were you ever robbie? i had a friend called robbie who goes by robert now.
ooh we should have a nicknames thread
What about Bob? I can’t see you as a Bob. (Even if it is good enough for Dr. Ballard.)
“Dude! Bob is my father!” (It’s true: that was his nickname, which I never dreamed of appropriating.)
Robert does indeed sound more proper and intelligent.
Which fits perfectly.
In response to brain metaphors, I thought the brain was completely unable to feel any sensation. Basically, if all those things happened to someone’s brain (being squeezed and/or massaged) it wouldn’t feel it. It’d probably screw up your thinking and be entirely disgusting though.
Robert does seem rather Robert-ish. Interestingly enough, his twin is also a Robert, who goes by Bob. Bob is more Bob-ish than our Robert, thought they’re still twins.
And then there are the Robs and Robbies. I only knew one Robbie, and he was my very first violin teacher.
One of the Robs was my uncle, who was definitely Rob-ish. Not Bob-ish or Robert-ish, but Rob-ish. Then the other is Boatswain. Who I never think of as very Rob-ish, interestingly enough. And CERTAINLY not Robert or Bob-ish. But I guess he makes an alright Rob, I mean, I don’t know what else I’d call him. Other than Boats of course, but that’s not a given name. He makes a good Boats.
But also interestingly, he shares some similarities with my uncle Rob. So I guess they have the Rob-ish thing going on there.
Did that make any sense? Probably not.
Should I even go into the other names? Probably not. Roseanne looks like a Roseanne to me, and Rebecca makes a good Rebecca, but I think Rebecca could also be something else. I don’t know what though.
And Paul could be something different as well, maybe an Arthur or William or Bruce or Peter.
Yup, I don’t think your brain can feel anything. A more accurate description would’ve been: “School is like having someone put your head into a jar and shake it up and down very hard and very fast.”
But still, it’s a very good analogy.
At the end of most school days, my thinking processes feel like my brain has been suddenly converted into either shredded carrots or cottage cheese.
Stinkin all CPA classes…. I hate homework….. No time for fun stuff… Like Muse Blog…
Piggy is continuing to love his Nook. He’s been reading a lot more since he got it, which is marvelous. He finished Grendel a few days ago, which was one of the most nihilistic and perception-altering books he’s read. Quite fantastic. Now he’s reading Bright Lights, Big City, which is very interesting–it’s told in the second person. He admits that he “borrowed” it from the internet, but only because neither the school nor the public library system had it. After this he’ll move onto There and Back Again, and then The Lord of the Rings. After that? Maybe One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest or Catch-22.
And now for something completely different:
Quo usque tandem abutere, Catilina, patientia nostra? quam diu etiam furor iste tuus nos eludet? quem ad finem sese effrenata iactabit audacia? Nihilne te nocturnum praesidium Palati, nihil urbis vigiliae, nihil timor populi, nihil concursus bonorum omnium, nihil hic munitissimus habendi senatus locus, nihil horum ora voltusque moverunt? Patere tua consilia non sentis, constrictam iam horum omnium scientia teneri coniurationem tuam non vides? Quid proxima, quid superiore nocte egeris, ubi fueris, quos convocaveris, quid consilii ceperis, quem nostrum ignorare arbitraris?
O tempora, o mores! Senatus haec intellegit. Consul videt; hic tamen vivit.
An vero vir amplissumus, P. Scipio, pontifex maximus, Ti. Gracchum mediocriter labefactantem statum rei publicae privatus interfecit; Catilinam orbem terrae caede atque incendiis vastare cupientem nos consules perferemus? Nam illa nimis antiqua praetereo, quod C. Servilius Ahala Sp. Maelium novis rebus studentem manu sua occidit. Fuit, fuit ista quondam in hac re publica virtus, ut viri fortes acrioribus suppliciis civem perniciosum quam acerbissimum hostem coercerent. Habemus senatus consultum in te, Catilina, vehemens et grave, non deest rei publicae consilium neque auctoritas huius ordinis; nos, nos, dico aperte, consules desumus.
wow piggy, you know yourself really well!

I’ve known myself for over 16 years. I and myself go waaay back.
Shouldn’t it be “Myself and I”, not “I and myself”?
*Is to busy to translate latin**really wants to**curses homework quite colorfully*
I got the Star Challengers book my dad pre-ordered for me in the mail!
I strongly dislike my biology class. I would switch out, but I don’t want to mess out my schedule because I like all my other classes. The teacher runs the class like a college-level course (which it is not) and assigned us two ridiculously large projects due next week. Also, we are going to have to do a web page-type-thing every month, and a big year-long project. Stressful. I am feeling overwhelmed. I have no time for enjoyment unless I forfeit sleep.
But on the bright side, I’ve started playing Portal!
Sorry I’ve been gone so much lately. My computer’s acting up and I haven’t had a chance to try to fix it yet, so I’m using Mom’s computer. So I haven’t really touched the computer for a week or so.
The picture is really cool.
Getting ready to go to bed after hanging out with some awesome people in the lounge for 4 hours, listening to them playing guitar/accordion/etc and singing along. Before that I had a class on Buffy the Vampire slayer, and before that was Quidditch practice and then dinner as a team. This is how days need to be every now and then ♥
yay! Glad you’re enjoying college.
Yay! I like 70s GAPA-pictures. You all look friendly.
Heyla, MuseBlog!!! I’m on my dad’s iPhone right now, which is pretty cool. He says that I can use the Internet on it if I need it, which I’m happy about. (Although, if he was up right now, he might not call this ‘needing the Internet’.) Gotta go right now, dear old mummy says I have to go to school!
Holy… cake. I’m legitimately impressed by Internet Explorer 9. I haven’t tried the beta yet, but its Java engine outperforms IE8’s by a factor of 10, and even outperforms the Firefox 4.0 beta. Cakity cake cake. It looks a heck of a lot better, too, than any other IE. Wow.
There’s a version of IE that isn’t complete junk? I’m amazed.
I’m trying it out now. It’s a lot sleeker-looking than any other IE, which is an enormous improvement. It seems faster, too. Still rather slow to start up, at least compared to Chrome, but faster than it had been. But it does have the address bar and the tab bar on the same line–it would be better if the address bar was above the tabs, but eh. It’s obvious that they’ve taken a lot from Chrome for this–the tab behavior is nearly identical, as is the New Tab page. The Find feature is a bar instead of a separate window, but it doesn’t have the nice features that Chrome’s has. The address box has the nice auto-complete and combined search that Chrome has. Overall: Chrome still seems sleeker, more polished, and more full-featured, but that may change, since this is still a beta.
I need some advice. What does a high-schooler normally do when inviting friends over for ens birthday? From the way things are going, said high-schooler is thinking of not doing anything again this year as en cannot think of anything.
You’re three days older than me!
I never really have birthday parties for whatever reason, but you can invite them over for a movie or a board game night, though I find that board games don’t work for a lot of friends. You can also go to a haunted house, since it’s so close to Halloween, or you can carve pumpkins. My friends and I like to do stupid things like that. We had a cookie making party once for no reason at all, then we played a surgery game on a friend’s Wii. Cutting people open is surprisingly fun… >:)
I have friends over, we hang out and talk, eat food, eat cake, open the presents, watch some movies, and talk until at least 3am.
Up untill last school year, I would invite friends over for basically what Tesseract derscribed, but not for more than three to four hours. Then, when I moved I made new friends. I’ve known my new friends for two school years now, but I’m not confident I’ll be able to put somethng together they’ll all enjoy. And a haunted house is an excellent idea, but a bit hard to put together in a conventional household.
I meant to go to one, not set one up in your house, but that’s also a really good idea… There’s like, a million really good ones around where I live.
my best birthday party was probably the year i decided to have it outside at a nearby park. we had pizza and played ultimate frisbee and capture the flag and then part of the group went home and my closer friends subtly didn’t leave and came back to my house and watched monty python and tried to see how many people we could fit in one chair (answer: lots)
that was my sixteenth.
usually i don’t make a big thing out of my birthday though…just have some friends over and hang out.
I’m having a pirate party/movie fest. It’s going to be awesome. Were gonna stay up ’til 3 A.M. telling ghost stories and stuff.
I’m thinking about hosting a tree planting for my Sweet Sixteen. Or, if not that, some other fun volunteering event that all of my friends could get involved in. I don’t want my 16th birthday to be just another celebration of crass consumerism and as many gifts as I can get. I’d rather give back in some way.
My chem teacher is AWESOME. She bought Honey Combs (the cereal) for a girl who she had taught in another class and really loved them. Of course, she had to share, so a box of Honey Combs was being thrown around the classroom. After we all had some, she started teaching for a bit, but then turned to me and asked if I wanted more. I said no, but she told me, “Of course you want more. Don’t be silly.” Of course, everyone else wanted more too, so she got us bowls to put them in, and distributed them. She went to start teaching again, but didn’t get to writing anything because she had an idea- “Let’s make a shopping list!” And we did. She wrote down about ten cereals that she’s going to buy for us.
Before really going to go back to teaching us she said this:
“Guys, just so you know, we’re not going to be eating cereal in here every day.” *pause* *glares from students* “Yeah. We’re eating cereal in here every day.”
This is random… And it’s not really worthy of being in its own post, so it’s now a reply. I really want to run. I’m having a craving for running right now, but my mom won’t let me go around the block, since she’s out. *frustration* My yard is too small to run around.
Having read the Star Challengers book, I more fully understand the sort of future that may lie in store should Mostly Harmless fail. A death of imagination leading to technological and societal stagnation and ultimately, slavery at the hands of an enemy nearly as fearsome as the HPBs.
My friends, we MUST succeed in our plans. Nobody deserves the kind of future Commander Zota had in the book.
Had our first proper Quidditch scrimmage today. It went pretty well, except we broke at least 5 brooms and one guy definitely needs stitches : / But other than that it was great! I really missed doing a sport, this will be good for me. Another awesome day ^^
Will you explain the rules of earth-bound Quidditch, pretty please?
Yarr, I shall post a proper set o’ the laws o’ the game for ye all later, me lassie! For now I must set sail to practice, arrgh!
It’s Yom Kippur today, so I’m fasting…but I’m hungry…
ahaha i forgot it was yom kippur! which is silly because i was talking about it last night. well i’m wearing my beatles shirt which is in jewish so it’s all good. i plan to eat extra to make up for everyone else. (ps yes i know it’s called hebrew. i also tell mili he speaks in mexican. it’s just a thing.)
seriously though, fasting is mad intense. i only ever do it by accident…i feel like if i were thinking about it, it’d be really difficult. although actually i’d probably just forget and eat something and go “oh wait…” i guess you don’t forget if you’re in shul all day, but that sounds like not much fun
i would be such a terrible jew. good thing i’m catholic, we can get away with not doing anything we’re supposed to xP
Yup, it’s Yom Kippur… *is starving* Although it’s really my own fault for choosing to fast. (In my family, fasting is a personal decision.) I’ve given up on trying to do any work today, which is bad, since I have a paper due tomorrow evening, but I just can’t work… Plus, it’s Yom Kippur.
Aargh, aargh, aargh, I’m so hungry right now. And being at services really doesn’t help, because either you’re in the actual services and you’re really bored and you’re starving, or you’re down helping out with the elementary schoolers and they all get challah and apples because they’re kids and you’re starving. Oh, and I was unloading bags of food that members of our temple were donating to the local food bank, and I had to carry all this pasta and cereal and soup and canned fruit and stuff over to the truck, and it was ridiculously terrible.
Only about five hours til break-the-fast, though…
Oh, we only do Kol Nidre services, which is good, because they’re right after a big dinner… I just try to sleep late on Yom Kippur, so I won’t starve too much… And only a little over an hour until break fast. Yay!
I used to do the same on Sundays, for the same reason.
I am about to take a bite out of my keyboard so that I can EAT SOMETHING.
Oooh, Talk Like A Pirate Day is tomorrow!
Oh yeah! I almost forgot! Yay and/or Argh!
It’s impossible for me to forget. One of my friends is obsessed with pirates, and the birthday of Hermononucleosis, my brother, and my best friend. So basically, it’s a whole load of awesome packed into one day.
Study for physics test: check. As long as I pay attention and don’t make a million stupid mistakes like I did on the practice exam, I think I should be able to ace the test, or certainly do quite well on it. And, of course, provided it’s not lots longer than the practice exam….Because I’ve heard the rumor she makes the tests longer than it’s possible to complete in the time allotted so either a) other people are really slow, as I finished the practice exam right on time, or b) the actual exam is much longer….
Now, of course, I need to study for the two other tests I have early next week. Most specifically, animal phys which is 10am Monday morning, because all I’ve done sof ar in that is skimmed my notes. And I’ve heard horror stories about his exams in intro bio, and it only stands to reason that his exams in a harder course like animal phys, would be that much more impossible than his exams in intro bio (which I think had averages in the 60s or thereabouts)..
And then of course I need to study for my accounting test that is tuesday evening.
and we mustn’t forget the group spankish project that is due Wednesday….We have that to do still, too…and suddenly the accomplishment of having finished physics studying seems remarkably tiny…..damn.
Piggy’s migraine status: mostly gone. I was on the verge of crying, collapsing, or both from the pain earlier. For those of you who don’t have migraines, perhaps an explanation is in order. I tend to get really severe ones. Imagine this: there is a black hole in the center of your brain. But all of your neurons are somehow locked into place. Thus they are pulled by the black hole but aren’t actually consumed by it. They are only pulled and pulled, creating a tension that is the moat painful sensation you’ve ever experienced. The light from a digital clock across the room is blinding and amplifies the pain. Someone in another room sneezes, and the sound engulfs your consciousness and makes the throbbing pain intensify. The only possible activity is sleep, which is nearly impossible due to the pain. Sometimes you’ll throw up and instantly feel better. Most times you can only wait it out.
Now, it’s not always this severe. But it often is.
:'(
*hug* *choklit*
.1, .2- Thanks for the sympathies, but you can be sure that if I’m posting on MuseBlog, I’m in the postdromal phase–I would never be able to look at a computer screen during full migraine mode.
I’m sorry! That sounds terrible.
ATTENTION ALL DEMIGOD RPG PLAYERS! PLEASE RETURN TO THE THREAD IMMEDIATELY!!!
Remember, everyone, that tomorrow (the nineteenth) is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
45- As a frequent sufferer of extremely severe migraines, I recommend talking to your doctor about different sorts of medication for them. Yes, it means getting an MRI, but the ones I have now help SO much more than what I used to use (prescription strength ibuprofen (4 tablets), but there was a 15 minute time window in which I’d be able to take them–if I missed it and took them too late, I’d end up just throwing them up and have to go through the whole thing unmedicated). I now can just lay with headache instead of feeling Athena bang away inside my head with a hammer for 6 hours.
Also, question–when you get them, do your extremities go numb? I lose feeling (in my fingers starting at the pinky and working in to thumb, then up my hands, and sometimes my feet but not as noticeably) which was not at all pleasant. I also lose coherency when I talk which was also not fun (when I got my concussion last year, it felt a lot like how I “lost words” during migraines). If yours are severe enough to do this/other sorts of things you should really talk to a doctor about them.
I did get a prescription for them, but my damned she-parent never filled it. Do prescriptions expire? Is there a set period of time in which they have to be filled? (Incidentally, I didn’t have to get an MRI.)
As for other symptoms: my extremities don’t go numb; neither do I lose a large amount of coherency. I do lose some degree of it, though, which basically manifests itself in choppy sentences, delayed responses to questions, and not being able to think of a word. I can think fairly clearly, though–just not speak clearly.
Also, question: what seems to trigger yours? For me it’s shifts in barometric pressure.
If’en the prescription be–
Okay I don’t have enough time to post this in pirate FORGIVE MY LAPSE EVERYONE.
Sometimes pharmacies don’t accept prescriptions over a year old, but I’m not sure how it works really. It’s always best to try, and if it doesn’t work, call the doctor and have it renewed.
re:coherency: Yeah, at first I can’t think of the right words, and then what I’m thinking and what I’m speaking start to not match up. I’ll try to say something like “My head hurts” and come out with “My hands don’t feel!” >.< It grows worse with the pain to where I can’t think clearly and end up having lines of strange thoughts cycling through my head on repeat. I also sort of lose the ability to read which is one of the scariest things ever–I can see the words but it can take me up to a minute to connect it to a meaning, if I can at all. This is usually 30 minutes before the pain really starts, I can’t even focus my eyes to read if I’m in one in full swing. Not to mention for there to be enough light to read I’d be crying x_x
It’s not quite certain what triggers mine, but air pressure seems to be one of them. I get a lot more in fall and spring, but I’ve had them summer/winter too. There might be another trigger (a certain amount of caffeine? Some type of food?) but I haven’t been able to pinpoint it.
Are ye be havin’ an aura with yer migraines? I ne’er bin havin’ an aura.
Arrr, I be havin’ another question for ye. How you bin determinin’ the severity of a migraine? It be seemin’ rather subjective to this salty sea dog.
Yar, I think “aura” be what they called.
Okay another lapse because this is hard in pirate and I need to be studying:
Yes, I get aura. Mostly visual. 30 minutes before the headache-phase starts, I start to lose the ability to focus my eyes–it becomes really hard to see things clearly and hurts to do so. I get little floating spots/lines of light. This is the main sign of an oncoming migraine for me. After that I start to get the paresthesias (pins-and-needles, numbness, what have you) in my hands. Around the same time as the numbness I begin to notice the dysphasia.
Between when I notice this and when the headache starts is when I have to take my meds, or else I just throw them up. It’s like a 15-30 minute window, depending, so if I don’t have them with me when one comes on I’m in trouble.
If I do take the meds in time, the pain is still undeniably there, but it’s manageable. It’s almost like I can tell that there is pain in my head, but as long a I don’t move it’s disconnected from me. Still hurts, but not nearly as much. I can lay quietly in a dark room (like most people I get very light/sound sensitive during a migraine) and wait it out for a few hours. It’s really hard to sleep unless it’s nearly over though.
If I DON’T get my meds, then it gets really bad. After aura phase, the pain starts to increase in waves. It’ll throb and steadily worsen for 3 or 4 hours before peaking for a bit, and then finally starts to fade. Pain is really a subjective thing to describe, but here’s about how it goes for me:
1. Light headache, irritating but something I could work though (except I can tell what’s coming next, so I usually head for cover)
2. Harder headache, like large pressure inside your skull
3. Headache worsens to the point where it gets hard to walk because of the pain and vertigo, first point I’d call the pain migraine level
4. Pain equivalent of having people hammer lightly on the inside of your skull
5. They have begun to hammer as though they believe there is gold lodged somewhere in my bone.
6. Pain increases to the point where I start digging my nails into my skin/hitting my hands on things so I can distract myself with lesser pain (not the best idea, but by this point I can’t think straight)
7. Pain so severe that the stuff in 6 isn’t even noticeable because of it. I often wish for death at this point (dramatic, maybe, but true) and it’s a good thing there are stairs between me and the kitchen knives because I’ve lost a lot of my sense and I feel like the pain won’t ever end. Your black hole metaphor was very effective here. It’s like dull fishhooks pulling at my skull in a thousand directions.
It sounds like yours are bilateral? Mine are. It would be a lot easier to manage, I imagine, if they were only one-sided.
As for the severity of mine, I think mine tend to be somewhere around your stage 6, but it may be higher or lower than that–it’s so purely subjective. And yet, judging from what I’ve read, migraines are nothing compared to cluster headaches. I cannot imagine existing with that condition–the most intense pain it’s possible to have, hours a day, every day for months? *shudder* I’ll take my migraines over that.
The loss of concentration and/or the presence of dysphasia is something I’ve never really noticed before, but rather taken for granted. It makes sense–you’re in pain, so you can’t concentrate. I never considered that as a separate symptom.
It’s strange, though–I haven’t had any significant nausea with my migraines in several years. I almost wish I would, because on numerous occasions vomiting would somehow instantly make the pain go away, and I’d feel refreshed and invigorated. Without vomiting, I can only sleep it off, and usually I’m exhausted for a day or two afterwards.
Have you had your migraines more or less your whole life? I have. It’s not pleasant, being three years old and being in that sort of untreatable pain.
Woo, bonding over a medical condition, woo (>.<")
A’ack. I have two chapters of math to do (actually, I’m almost done with them) but all I can convince myself to do is leave it until tomorrow morning. Halp.
YARR!
Just sayin’.
Ar, ye mayties! It’s Talk Like A Pirate day, Yar! Throw ye “Proper English” bilgewater off the deck and speak ye heart in Pirate! *ye olde Pirate rampage*
16 men on a dead man’s chest! ho ho ho and a bottle o’ rum!
“Ho ho ho”? Be ye Santa?
One o’ them “ho”s ought to be a “yo,” I be thinkin’. Or possibly a “yeo.”
Meh. I have a presentation about Humanism (the Renaissance movement) in German class and I’m scared. Not because I don’t understand the ideology of the time, but because I’m not good at explaining new things to people. It’s just that most of it is so blindingly obvious that I only bother to mention the details, which results in nobody understanding much. And I’m having trouble writing a handout for the very same reason. Usually I do this sort of thing with another person, so I realize which explanations I have to leave in, or I take a subject that I don’t understand because it’s easier to explain that way, but instead I got landed with Humanism *sigh*
bookgirl:
That sort of thinking, explaining, and selection of details is what I do all day. It might help to imagine a specific person as an audience for your explanation. What does that person know? What does en not know? What might not already be blindingly obvious to en? (Maybe the sort of religious thinking to which Humanism was a reaction?)
(If it would help, you can always explain it to us. We can pretend to be stupid.)
Another problem with school papers is that you aren’t really trying to explain a topic to anyone; you’re trying to show the teacher that you understand it. That can create painfully contradictory goals.
Hm… Okay, I sort of tried to explain it to my sister and I think it’s understandable. I found a help book in my german book which is about an argument basically between the philosophy between humanism and the dark ages which I think clears things up and helps the literature angle.
The contradictory goals thing is making me very nervous because the teacher knows most of the others in my homeroom well except for me, so this is a sort of first impression thing too. On the whole reason for these presentations is that the teacher wants to cover the gaps (we should have learned this last year but didn’t) since we’ll need it later on. *crosses fingers*
YARRRR! All hands on deck! To the magic rpg, part two, ye mateys! YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM FOR THOSE WHO DO!!!
Does anyone know what happened to the Muse Academy Game Room thread?
Just use the sear–w-wait. It’s not there. W-what?
What do you mean, it’s not there? Middle of the second page back: https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=3261
I assume that’s what y’all are looking for?
Arrr, yonder search plugin be a scurvy dog.
Yes. But it should be at the top of the list when searching for “Muse Academy Game Room” – at least it used to be.
And SFTDP, but it needs reviving…
OhmysweetKoko, English to Pirate website translator + NASA sites = the most fun I have had in a long, long time.
“President Dwight D. Eisenhower established th’ National Aeronautics an’ Space Administration in 1958, partially in response t’ th’ Soviet Union’s launch o’ th’ first artificial satellite th’ previous voyage.”
“Durin’ th’ STS-133 voyage, Commander Ste’en Lindsey an’ his crew will deli’er an’ install th’ Permanent Multipurpose Module.”
“Learn about th’ men an’ lasses who set sail t’ space on journeys o’ exploration an’ discovery.”
“Th’ Terra an’ Aqua satellites be jolly rogerships o’ a different fleet, this one in Earth orbit, designed t’ help us understand how our homeport world be changin’.”
“Fact Sail: Remainin’ Shuttle Missions”
“NASA has awarded a five-voyage, $1.24 billion contract extension t’ Th’ Boein’ Co. t’ continue engineerin’ support o’ th’ International Space Station through Sept. 30, 2015.”
“Be seein’ th’ Station in th’ Sky
Find ou’ when th’ ISS be o’er yer city, or track ‘ere ’tis starboard now.”
“She served as th’ society’s primary spokesswabbie, makin’ frequent appearances on national television an’ regularly testifyin’ on Capitol Hill.”
“July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong an’ Buzz Aldrin became th’ first o’ 12 men t’ keel haul on th’ moon, meetin’ Kennedy’s challenge.”
This is EPIC.
I be readin’ th’ ‘Letters, England’ RPW in Pirate. It’s also very fun…
GUYS GUYS GUYS
I’M LEAVING FOR A LADY GAGA CONCERT IN HALF AN HOUR
I AM CAPSLOCK-WORTHY EXCITED
(please no bashing Lady Gaga on this comment, thank you.)
Awesome! Have fun!
Have fun! And don’t worry, I personally don’t like her music, but I wouldn’t bash her as a person.
WHAT NO I’M SO ENVIOUS I CAN’T EVEN USE PUNCTUATION
Was it fun?
IT WAS INCREDIBLE
OHMYGODENVYNOWICAN’TUSESPACES
Wow, you really can’t read that in pirate, can you?
No, you can’t really. I got the general idea, though.
Well, I botched singing part of the audition, and therefore I am not on the cast list of 13.
But I had an interesting weekend, with visiting people, reading, homework, and stuff. I’ve started to read Titus Groan.
Vampire Knight is so awesome! I am in love with the theme song…
I love the closing sing from vampire knight guilty, myself. I like the anime too, though I hated the end.
I love that one, too! I haven’t finished the seiries yet, so I have no idea… Is Vampire Knight Guilty any different from Vampire Knight? It’s a great show. Have you watched Noein?
It’s the official name for the second season; the theme song and the closing song are different but it’s the same anime. I haven’t seen Noein; I usually don’t watch anime but was swayed by my friend and instantly hooked.
Yay! A second season!
Yarr, be the GAPAs translatin’ everythin’ into th’ piratey language? ‘Tis a great idear!
And they’re doing it on the old threads, too!
It’s really funny reading the Carl Sagan quotes on the thread we had for his birthday. Pirate Carl Sagan = Crazy Awesome.
Gosh. Every time I start to get into MB something happens. This time my computer got the “Trojan Virus”. How long has it been? Oh yeah, I have a shop that I haven’t been to since forever.
Hey! Haven’t seen you around in ages! *waves*
Yarr! I be lovin’ this piratey language!
This is so cool!
Absolutely brilliant. I only wish I had more time to peruse the ‘blog in its flammy pirate language, but, sadly, responsibilities (aka, finishing studying for my animal phys exam) must take priority.
“The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.”
That poem is even more intriguing in pirate-speak.
Verily.
Y’Argh, I be mightily approvin’!
Whee! Learning more klingon!
Quch, iajbe!
Can’t do accent marks in comments. Most sad.
You know you go to a lousy school when the most educational class you had was P.E.
*presentation victory dance*
It went well, except for the art part which I kinda forgot and I should have mentioned the Medici more. I was so afraid the teacher would rip me to shreds, but she just asked me questions about it (which I could answer) and one kid was even taking notes. ‘Course, everyone is teasing me about fretting so much on the impact on my grade, but I think it’s very funny
It’s so nice when your work is finally done for the day…
woo college!
i still need to get textbooks :O it’s been busy
yesterday i saw approximately half a million people. i’m across the hall from my RA and i feel like he thinks i’m super popular now because people i knew kept randomly coming in. there’s one girl from philosophy last year who i haven’t seen in MONTHS and she has friends who live on this floor. and there’s a girl on my floor that lived in my dorm last year. the B2D club needed some pictures for their booth so a friend of tom’s who i think i’ve met before but only briefly came to get them, and she apparently lives a couple floors up, and i ran into a friend from high school in the lobby who is living a floor below me. and then i ran into a bunch of people around campus, we ran into khalil which was cool because he made marching band so we probably won’t see him again until winter, and i saw hewitt’s roommate moving his stuff into drackett when i went to visit esther and sarah and leigh anne.
kate helped me hang up all my posters and then half of them promptly fell down again so she’s going to lend me some sticky tack because she brought a bunch. but i have a few posters still up! for dinner leigh anne brought along her roommate who was from malaysia and seemed really cool. kate and keller spent some quality time with my RA when i left my key in the room (first day…dumb ebeth is dumb) so they say he’s cool.
today’s the welcome fair which will be forever long and then i have work :-/ david said we didn’t manage to get any stormtroopers, which was sad
i’m gonna bring my Plan 9 From Outer Space poster and my sonic screwdriver though. and we’re showing up early to try to get booths next to B2D and anime club because our clubs are all bffs. i was talking to brian last night and he said he was going to the fair and i was like “LOOK FOR THE LARGE CONGLOMERATION OF NERDS!”
my window is kind of small but my room is SUPER nice. my only real complaint is that they told us to leave the vents on when we’re showering because the steam buildup can set off the fire alarms (which oh god would suck) and the vent works really well. i like hot showers, especially when i get up really early, and stepping out of it into a cold room is not pleasant. but other than that life is good
i hope the pirate translator stays in effect for a little bit…i’m interested to see this post in pirate
Does anyone else listen to Great Big Sea?
Bah. I have class in 7 minutes and the professor posted the homework online but I can’t get to it. I have to be logged in and it isn’t working. I emailed him about it yesterday but he hasn’t gotten back to me. Ah well.
Er, what I meant is Great B I G Sea but it seems to have turned the middle word into Grand.
me me me! love them
Yeah!!! My September issue is here.
Also Hornblower (my gravatar) doesn’t approve of speaking in pirate. Makes sense, he’s part of the British Royal Navy.
I on the other hand enjoying seeing what old threads look like now.
Aieeeeeeeeee! Vampire Knight guilty is amazing!
68 (Oxlin)- I love them! In fact, the night I was down in the lounge singing songs till 2 am, we were singing mostly GBS
And other folk tunes.
Yes! They’re playing this Friday at Webster Hall, but I can’t go.
I get scholarship money instead that night so it is okay.
Ooh! That sounds like lots of fun! I’m envious.
The Pirate translator renders “Die” as “Sink to Davy Jones”, and one of the webpages I translated had the German title of a book written out, which started with “Die”, so it was “Sink to Davy Jones (German stuff)”
*cracks up so hard* Ohmygosh. *shakes head at sheer randomness/epicness of it all*
Woah. It be Talk Like a Pirate Day, then, mateys? Or yesterday?
Yesterday, Rosebud me matey.
I took my marching band test today. I really knew the music, and I was able to play it not in front of the teacher perfectly fine, but when I got in front of her, I started to freak out. I kept on messing up. I got all sweaty and shaky, and about half way through the song, I started crying. By the time the song was over, the tears were streaming down my face. I knew I could redo it, and I knew that I didn’t do that bad, but I still couldn’t help it. The poor student teacher must’ve felt so awkward. By the time I got in the hall way to go to my locker, I was in full-blown freak out mode. I couldn’t stop! In my mind, I was calm, but I just couldn’t stop. I wasn’t able to speak clearly, I was crying like mad, and I was involuntarily gasping. My friend was with me the whole time, and I was able to explain to her what was happening, but I didn’t know why, or how to stop. I felt like a total idiot. I told her that I was perfectly fine, and in my head I was, but I just kept on gasping for air and crying. Oh, and by the way, in the middle of the test, a really hot senior walked in. And I was a mad wreck. I have no clue how I’m supposed to face the student teacher tomorrow… *headdesk*
Ah. This is going to be translated into pirate isn’t it?
Oh, poor Beeds. I think the random-meltdown experience is more common than it appears. I know I’ve done that, much to my eternal shame, over the stupidest things. I’m sure it’ll all be okay. *hug*
Yes, it sure is going to be translated.
If you just play it cool, the student teacher won’t bring it up. Though conversation will probably be more awkward.
Thanks, guys! I brought it up today (I couldn’t just ignore it!) and she said it was fine. It had happened to her before, and she understood. She’s such a sweet person.
Listening to Mozart and Bach and opera and so forth for homework is one of the best things ever. I am so lucky to go to music school.
Excuse me, now, I’ll be in the corner crying over my Bach cantata paper.
Hurt my ankle on hill repeats in cross-country practice today.
Now I can’t do strides without swearing steadily under my breath, and I can’t run for more than ten minutes without stopping to sit down on the ground, elevate my ankle, and make a gruesome face of pain. AND there is a meet on Thursday. Ow ow ow ow ow ow ligaments.
In other, better news, though, I get to do my favorite speech of all time for practice for our Greek Dramas unit in Acting! (Jon Stewart’s post 9/11 speech, for the curious. I want to be able to put that kind of passion into EVERYTHING I EVER SAY. :D)
And we’re pretending to be Enlightenment philosophers in Modern World History, and I get to be the single female philosopher, again! And, like every other female philosopher I’ve ever heard of who wasn’t ancient Greek or late 20th-century, she’s arguing for women’s rights! What a surprise! (That’s only partly sarcastic, by the way. It means I get to do some serious sparring with Baron de Montesquieu. “What, you think women are so sweet and kind and gentle we ought to be in government! I’ll show you how sweet and kind and gentle I am, cake it!!!”)
*Hugs*
*hugs and more hugs and hugs*
*hugs*
We’re pretending to be Enlightenment philosophers too. We switched around, but one day I was also the only female one, Mary Wollstonecraft, even though I am a boy.
So everything automatically turns to pirate here? Sweet…
Meh… Homework sucks. As do papers, tests, etc. Our speller half was fasting all of Saturday and then had to write nearly her entire history paper Sunday. And I’m getting clobbered with number theory homework and chemistry tests (lab practical Thursday, unit exam Monday) and such. My research proposal is also due Wednesday, so I need to add stuff and flesh out how mathematical logic will save the world. (Um, yeah… Societal implications are special when your project is pure math.) In semi-related news, I realized that my favorite dimension to think in is the -1th dimension.
Ugh, I have the flu and my parents are at work. And now I have a really bad headache.
Awww. *soft blankets and Headache-B-Gone and kittehs*
Thanks. Now I feel a bit better, but I still have a fever. And nausea. Ad nauseum. Which, because of my stuffed nose, is what “and nausea” sounds like when I say it.
I’ve been surfing the internet all day and messing up Wikipedia pages. Ad nauseum. I like it. Ad nauseum. Wheeee!
i am AWAKE. what is this madness? earliest i’ve been up in YEARS.
so yesterday i started work…and this morning i have more work…workyworkywork
i still need to get my textbooks :O and better shampoo. and some snacky-foods. mostly textbooks i guess, since i have to do that whole schooling thing. i left my italian book at home, which means for tomorrow at least i get to try to awkwardly apologize in italian. and then i have bio lecture and bio lab right after…my first college science oh boy. i might not even buy that textbook, i’ve heard some teachers don’t even use it. we’ll see how the first day goes. i already have the lab book though. TuThu are the fun days, tudor-era british history followed by honors brit lit.
aaanyway. yeah i’m basically killing time until i have to go into work. getting there early in the morning is so useless and awkward because you can’t really set up yet so you just sort of stand around while the cooks run around doing things. so i’m gonna wait until it’s actually close to 6:45. my dorm is right next to the dining hall which will be fantastic in the winter, especially with this obnoxious wake-up time. why am i working mornings again? oh right, free weekends (ps FREE WEEKENDS WOO)
oh hey btw DC musers, i might (read: hopefully will) be going to the stewart/colbert rallies in october! so yes.
HA. I’ve been awake for a long time at 2:30 before. It makes me crazy. When I came up with the phrase, “Silly child, there are no truffles on the moon” was a day when I’d woken up at, like, 3 and had been unable to get back to sleep.
Oooh oooh!

I’m going!
Fo’ sho’!
Kokon.
Yes?
I SO WISH that I could go. Partly because they’re awesome and partly because I actually agree that America needs to be a little more sane!
But unfortunately, there’s the whole “other side of the country” thing. bleh.
I would KILL to be there. I am BARELY exaggerating. I would give ANYTHING to be there. One of my brother’s friends said his mom offered to take him to the Stewart rally, but he decided not to because he didn’t think it would be very sane to fly across the country and probably miss school for it, so he would feel hypocritical.
But for serious. I heard about it last night and I’m already so desperate I would seriously stand on a street corner with my thumb out and a sign saying D.C. OR BUST. I want to BE there.
KOKON FOR REALS
we have such a big group :O it’s up to like nine people. we’re hoping to stay at a friend’s relatives’ house for the night, i am going to feel so bad for them if they say yes. we’ll like buy them food or something
So tired. I really didn’t sleep well last night, at all. Nor the night before, for that matter. All I really want to do right now is sleep. But I can’t. Because I don’t get done with classes today until 7:30–which is actually an hour earlier than normal, and only because that last class is a test. yes. A test at 6 tonight, and I”m already drained of all energy (and that’s part of a song….because it voiced itself in my head in JBs singing. Yes, I listen to his music that often), how am I supposed to do well on it?
On the plus side, I think my physics test went really well this morning, but I probably shouldn’t say any more than that, since the rest of the class isn’t taking it until tonight….and while I highly doubt anybody I know or who even goes to my school would be lurking here, and even though the prof didn’t actually swear me to secrecy like is normally done when one takes a test early, I should be good.
but, yeah, it went well. So that made me happy. But then the happiness quickly morphed into sheer ineedtosleepgimmesleepnowsleepsleepsleep. *sigh*
High Flying Adored. That’s it. I knew the title would come to me…. Totally have JB singing it in my head now. ♥
Ooh, Evita… Only good Lloyd Webber musical out there… By the way, is it sad that this Spelluna half recognized High Flying adored faster than you did? Well, I suppose I also know it from Evita, not just from JB…
This Spelluna half is really bad with song names/recognizing songs. That is, I might hear the tune or lyrics to a song–say the tune to something really well known, like, oh, a really common Christmas Carol–but even though Ir ecognize it, it takes a ridiculously long time to put a name to it…So I suppose your half got allotted the ability to quickly recognize songs from lyrics and the like.
I think one of my comments might have gotten snipped. Odd. Was it a PoPo? Sorry, GAPAs, if it was…..
Anyway, I love the thread’s picture. You’re all so… um… am I allowed to say the GAPAs are ‘cute’? *says it anyway* You all look so cute. But, um, does Paul have a beard?…. o.O
Yuppers, PB&J has a beard.
Does Paul have a beard?
Without my beard, I would crumble into a small pile of ash. It is an enchanted beard, which has sustained me in my present form since 1578.
Meh. Open house tonight, plus a laptop meeting. (We get them tomorrow, yay!!) Open is sure to be so non-boring and fun! (Yeah, right.) Also Vampire Knight Guilty is so amazing! I’m finally on episode 3, yay! (Hehehe.)
HEY PEOPLE! Everyone wishing to participate in a new game of Paker please report to the Muse Academy Game Room!
Paker is still played in these parts? I am touched. I must whizz over and cause trouble. Perhaps demonstrate some unconventional moves I picked up in the tropics south of Luton.
Can anyone see my new picture?
Yup! It’s shark, right?
I am really amazing at procrastinating, I must say. Really. If anyone needs some tips on how to be a better procrastinator, I’m here.
*grumbles and goes off to do homework* *(not really)*
Have returned from laptop meeting, where all they did was tell us (for the umpteenth time!) how to care for, be careful around, not damage our laptops, etc. Meh.
*is laughing really hard right now*
On << INSERT EXTERIOR SITE HERE >>, my arch-nemesis just posted on my page “MY DEAREST LOVE” and I responded “OH I LOVE YOU TOO”
Yes, there is a story behind this. I may or may not tell you.
Aahh! Museblog!
You are my procrastination buddy yet again! I really shoud be working on my homework( ap euro notes, annotate a sheet for ap Lang, bio notes, some math, and studying for a Spanish test) and I’m sick. Woot woot. So I think I shall go do that now, after my breif visit here. Yay.
I have had an eventful weekend with little time to get on the internet, which means I have lots of stuff to talk about!
On Saturday, I went to my first ‘formal’ dance and it was soo fun. I find it rather ironic that everyone was dressed formally, yet it was a total grind-fest for the most part., but my friends and I made a ‘circle of dorky dancers’ in the back, and had a good old time.
Yesterday, we had our second academic team meet of the year, and a sophomore from my school was wearing a Muse shirt! We won the Quick Recall match, I got to go in for about three minutes and answered one right.
Also, I have the most amazing English teacher ever! We have been working on the Scarlet Letter for about two weeks, and we’re doing character analysis and all sorts of stuff that makes the book make so much sense! I have never really liked an assigned book before. This also gives me incentive to take AP English next year, because she teaches it.
I want to learn how to lindy-hop and all those old-fashioned fifties dances back when people knew how to dance.
*HATES HOMEWORK PASSIONATELY!*
Sorry.
*hugs*
Guess who finished her homework before twelve?
WOOT
Anyway, I’m going to try to stay off the blog for the rest of the week. It’s basically the best way to procrastinate, and I need to catch up on sleep. Also, I have a ton of tests which I should actually study for. Spanish doesn’t count. It’s been so painfully easy…
Okay, goodnight everyone, and have a good rest of the week.
I only have two more days of school left before the holidays! And once I hand in my English assignment and second art drawing, I’m free! People have being trying to get Mrs Scary Homework-Giving Maths Teacher to let us have a maths party on the last day, which probably won’t happen, but maybe we can do something fun. *is excited for holidays*
I feel lonely. I hate school. I almost like being sick because I can just sit here all day instead of sleeping or reading a book in a classroom. I hate my teachers. I’m typing this for no reason. Just feeling so… angry. With life.
GAPAs, you can delete this. Sorry for the PoPo rant.
man you guys are going on BREAK already? i’m just starting classes today!
ps starting classes today. still haven’t bought my textbooks. aaahhhh! but i already got the lab book for bio off kate, and my italian book i HAVE, it’s just at home so i’ll just have to tell him that in italian somehow (mi dispiace, dimenticato a mia casa or something like that i prolly got the tense all wrong). and bio is a massive lecture and i’ve heard some sections you don’t even need the book so i’m holding off on buying it cuz it is reeeally expensive. i might even just look into renting it or borrowing it or something
gotta go a-shopping tonight though because i’ll probably need the books for history and english tomorrow. get excited everyone, we’re gonna see how intelligent ebeth can be after getting up early in the morning and working! but i left a two and a half hour break between getting off work and my first class so i can shower and NAP and such
so mondays i start at 11:30 and i’m done at 3, but i work from 5:45-close. tuesdays and thursdays i work from 6:45-11 and then have class from 1:30-8 (because of band, academic classes go until 5:30 and band starts at 6:30). wednesdays i have class from 11:30-6:30 because of lab. and then fridays i just have the one class from 11:30-1. and then i am done for the weekend!
so tuesdays at 8 is sci-fi club, i don’t know what’s wednesdays yet (might be free) but i told the magic the gathering club that they should do wednesdays (they had thursdays but they’d lose a ton of members that way because of B2D). thursdays will be the worst, band then fencing then B2D. and then weekend shenanigans start friday
we’ve been planning marathons this year. it is the year of marathons. buffy marathon, firefly marathon, angel marathon, doctor who marathon, torchwood marathon, zombie movie marathon, big bang theory marathon, true blood marathon (all-girls. i haven’t seen it but everyone assures me this one should be all-girls), other marathons i’ve forgotten about because we are planning so many marathons…
it should be a fun year
don’t know when i’m gonna watch classic doctor who… :O but i’m sure i can find time
I don’t know if this is relevant to your textbook situation at all, but I discovered some places to get online or downloadable textbooks for a lot cheaper than the print versions. CourseSmart is the only one that I looked at, but I could get my complete AP Bio textbook for about $125 cheaper than the printed version. For a class where you might only need the textbook at times (and assuming you have a laptop of some sort), it could work.
LOL @ TRU BLUD MARATHON
and lol at all girls. that probably works not cause it’s romantic on any real level (SOOKEH IS MAHN) but cause it’s 1000000000% ridiculous fan fodder.
your schedule sounds kinda brutal but that’s probs cause i’m a wimp and my latest class is tu/thurs until 5:30. i think it’s the lab that vaguely terrifies me, i have hear many a horror story about labs (though it was o-chem and not bio so not the same)
where do you work? i feel like you’ve said this many times before…-___-
ALSO brit lit / tudor hilarity sound fun
The only person I see going on break is Maths Lover, whose departure from school doesn’t seem strange, considering she lives rather south of the equator.
textbook is optional! i do have to buy a clicker though so i can answer questions in lecture (it is a huuuge class)
my schedule is significantly more brutal than previous quarters. i’m gonna take winter quarter easy though, the only classes i’ve got lined up right now are bass guitar and an architecture class with keller, and possibly a philosophy class with ben. and maybe a science, because it would be nice to get through all my requirements this year
i work in the dining hall. i give people food. also i taught a chinese dude how to say “ham” yesterday because he pointed at it and asked what it was in english. i’m like a teacher or something whut whut.
tomorrow is the most brutal. sixteen hour day at the least. probably longer because i like hanging out with people after B2D. but it’s all fun stuff so it’s all good.
Ah, clickers. A lot of the classes at my school use them, although my Physics lecture this year is the first I’ve had that utilizes them. I don’t mind clicker questions–especially as this particular prof, if you clicker in an answer, regardless of whether it’s right, you get an attendance point, so essentially it’s just her way of taking attendance (although you could easily send a clicker with a friend…).
But what’s ridiculous, is a clicker costs about 20 bucks, and then it was another 10 dollars on top of that for a little piece of paper with a code on it.
Seems ridiculous, because it really can’t cost all that much for them to maintain the equipment that allows clicker questions that they need to charge all us students 10 dollars everytime we have a class with a clicker (because while you canr eceycle clickers, you can’t recycle the codes.). I just don’t believe it costs them that much to maintain the clicker network that they need thousands upon thousands upon thousands of dollars a semester from all us students who wind up in a class with clickers.
We had them in math class but I don’t think they’re the same things you’re talking about. They were more like TV remotes for the SmartBoard.
The clickers at my school are essentially remotes (smaller–shorter at least) than the average TV remote, with a tiny little screen, about a dozen buttons–number/letter buttons, a send button, a delete button, a button to switch from letters to numbers, and a power button. Bascially, you register the clicker (which is what you need the $10 code for) for the course, it connects to the clicker network in the classroom, and you can then send in answers to clicker questions during the lecture.
Oh no. That’s so…horrible and sad.*Hugs*
*Hugs*
The newest ‘You Know You’re Addicted to X When You Y’ thread is missing from the search list.
I’ve just deactivated the supposedly-improved search plug-in that seems to be causing problems for everybody. Now we’re back on the standard WordPress search engine. Notice any difference?
It seems to work better for me.
I still can’t find it…
We got our laptops, we got our laptops, we got our laptops! *does happy dance* They’re Macbooks! And they are amazing!
Whee! I had a similar experience a while ago!
A nifty app for macbooks is Caffeine, it’ll prevent the ma from sleeping while you’re, say, watching Doctor Who.
We’re not allowed to do anything other than schoolwork and Photobooth on ours.
Just got my latest issue of “Air and Space Smithsonian” magazine, and they gave a letter from a reader the epic heading “Cessnas Don’t Time Travel”.
Although I suppose if you configured the cameleon circuits…
Happy birthday, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins!
Just watched the newest Deathly Hallows trailer (that just came out 10 minutes ago). The bits it showed, I think I could go with, as being true to the books, but they showed such short little snippets, and in the remaining time of the movie, no matter how much the trailer bits stay true to the book, are almost certainly to diverge vastly from them….
But Fleur!Harry, or the one of the 7 Potters that I’m pretty sure is Fleur!Harry? Radcliffe looks….weird in that outfit. Actually, anytime I see one person duplicated (like where there’s supposed to be multiple people all looking like the same person), especially if it’s a woman turned into a guy’s appearance (like Fleur!Harry), I have flashbacks to “the Master race”, with the actor who plays the Master in panty hose and a red dress….
And I just realized that last line was mildly spoilerific for those who’ve not seen a couple certain New Who episodes. Whoops.
Sorry I haven’t been on much. That probably won’t change until I feel a strong motivation to be active again.
Right now some of my friends seem to be going through a lot of things, and it seems that I can never do the right thing for them. I get frustrated but I’m pretty good at pushing that away, but now I find that I’m just getting sad about it. I hope I don’t get depressed. Everything was supposed to be better this year, and honestly I don’t think much of it is really my fault….
Except for one thing… I had to make a decision about a relationship and while currently I’m comfortable with it, I don’t know how it’s going to end up.
I just have to keep reminding myself that High School (and school in general) isn’t forever.
I’m kind of stressed out right now. I’ve been trying to organize a tree planting event for the global work day that 350.org is organizing on 10/10/10, but it’s not going super well and I’m kind of sick of it and I’m almost wishing that I’d never started in the first place. So, as a result, I’m procrastinating on some important e-mails that I really should be responding to, and I know it’s all going to collapse at some point when that catches up to me.
The thing is, I can’t back out now, because there’s a lot of people (adults! strangers!) that have told me that they’re coming, and I can’t bear to disappoint and not have anything. But there’s fewer than 3 weeks and I’m pretty busy, getting busier. I’m worried that I won’t make it all.
GAPAs, have you considered the plugin simply called “Calendar” (by Kieran O’Shea) for the birthday and holiday list? It seems to me like it would make it easier to organize and automatize the process.
Went back to school assuming I was better and threw up in English. All over my nice clean test.
Bleuugh……
I prefer throwing up in German.
Gesundheit!
So pretty much my research is the most amazing thing ever. I’m learning a ton about model theory (which is pretty much the coolest branch of math ever) from one of the leading model theorists in the world… And then I’m actually going to use that to do real research, which if it goes as my advisor expects, will be the first proven counterexample to something. And if it goes the other way, then it will be an example, so it will still have some relevance. Yeah, awesome.
Awesome!
*cries and whimpers*
My… my Nook is dead. I don’t know what happened to it. The screen’s entirely unreadable. I could read it two days ago, and today it’s destroyed. It can’t be a manufacturing defect, so it’s not covered by the warranty. I’m afraid to tell my mom because I spent 200 dollars on it, and a few months later it’s a paperweight.
*moans and sobs*
Why do you rule out manufacturing defect?
The pattern on the screen makes it apparent that it was some sort of heavy pressure or blow that did the damage. If it was just blank, it could be a defect, but I can tell it was trauma.
Here’s a picture of the poor thing:
Oh, dear. Poor Piggy. Poor Nook.
PPIIGGGYYY. I’m sorry I took long to respond. The EXACT same thing happened to me. I brought it to the guy, expecting rejection, but he gave me a new one on the spot. The nook is kind of a messed up thing but my new one’s been working perfectly for the most part. Oddly, I was also afraid to tell my mom, but I told her that I didn’t drop it or do anything so she was okay with it. So yeah, bring it to the store and talk to the person who seems the nicest… And look really sad about it. That’s what made the guy want to give me a new one. Plus, my friend also had a problem (different problem. We all shoulda got kindles), and she gave it in and got a new one. So, try that. And if someone denies you at the store, try a different store, then if that doesn’t work, send it in to the address it says to send to. Hope this helps.
Had you bought the protection plan?
Nopers.
You guys were so CUTE!!
What happened? =D
“Were”?
Lol. That was the joke, Roberto. Nevertheless, no offense, but “cute” is probably not the word I’d use to describe you at this point. And I’m kind of thinking you wouldn’t want me to, haha!
Hello hello!
Howdy! How goes it?
I regret to inform you, Shadowkat, of the rule disallowing photos of people as gravatars. Trenchcoated men run rampant on the interwebs, and the GAPAs don’t want to take any chances. But it’s good to see you again!
Angebella. Isalina. AI. IA. Which name do you prefer for a person who is half vampire half shinigami, and is being possessed by a vampire named Angelina?
Isalina sounds more strange and exotic.
Isalina. Angebella sounds too…overused.
Isalina, definitely. I’m not sure why; I just prefer the sound.
Who likes Sherlock Holmes? The original stories, that is (or the 2009 movie, I suppose, I liked that too.) I do want to know if anyone else here likes the original stories.
I like the stories. I also saw the Young Sherlock Holmes movie, but it was slightly … moviefied.
I like the original stories a lot. The ending of “The Speckled Band” really surprised me.
Oh yeah, I know! We read The Speckled Band in English last year, and none of us were able to come even close to guessing the ending…genius.
Loved the movie…Loved the theme song…Can’t remember how it goes.
Nope, I remembered.
I may have read one or two of the books when I was younger, but I think I remember finding them confusing.
(To be fair, i think by “younger” I was <12) I saw the movie, which was alright. Don't really remember what happened/how it went (partly probably because I keep getting bits of it, and bits from the mockbuster of it with Gareth David-Lloyd from Torchwood mixed up…) I remember there was lots of fighting, beating people up.
Actually, really, the only thing I really remember from the movie was getting unduly annoyed when the actor playing Sherlock (whose name escape me, at the moment), said "counterclockwise" instead of "anticlockwise". I was silently informing the movie that, as Sherlock Holmes is British, he would ahve said anticlockwise, not counterclockwise, and couldn't they get that right?
On the subject of Sherlock Holmes, though, I most definitely like the BBC TV series of Sherlock, which I don't know if you've seen. But it's absolutely flammy (and Sherlock is hot), a Sherlock Holmes in a modern day setting.
I really want to watch it but I don’t know where to find it online. Sherlock, that is. The BBC series.
*coughgooglestagevucough* Sorry, nasty cough, I seem to have come down with.
I believe it was Robert Downey Jr. ( why do we attach the Jr., anyway? ), let me check.
Yes, it was.
I have three copies of the complete Sherlock Holmes. Just in case two break down.
Nice.
I liked the original series, from what I read of it, but I abandoned it for Agatha Christie, because she gives you all the clues, as opposed to only Holmes knowing everything. I just found it more satisfying.
The stories are good, but after Doyle tried to kill off Holmes they all went downhill. I mean, if an author just doesn’t want to write a certain character any more, the quality just won’t be as good. Fact.
Whee! All better. Listening to Kal ho naa ho makes me feel sad. It’s a Bollywood song about this guy who dies after getting two friends together, while secretly being in love with one of them. Sniffle. Aside from Swadesh, it’s the only Bollywood movie I’ve ever liked.
I’m reading an awesome booked called “The Red Pyramid” by Rick Riordan.
Need to read that… I’m going to actually buy it, which I almost never do. But I have a Target gift card and nothing else to do with it, so…
Aaaaaaaand new gravatar! Sorry if no one can recognize me now…….and I might change it to something else. But for now it shall be feet.
Our Luna half now has Prisoner of Azkaban in Czech (or “Harry Potter a Vezen z Azkabanu”) and Tales of Beedle the Bard in Czech (“Bajky Barda Beedleho”), courtesy of her friend Alan’s study abroad trip to Prague this summer…..
So her foreign language editions of HP books has broadened to:
Philospher’s Stone (in Italian, from her sister’s trip to Italy)
Chamber of Secrets (in French, from her sister’s trip to France)
Chamber of Secrets (in Spanish from the thrift store)
Prisoner of Azkaban (in Czech, from Alan’s trip to Prague)
Tales of Beedle the Bard (in Czech, from Alan’s trip to Prague)
Life is good.
You know, my Latin teacher has not read a single Harry Potter book, yet her personality is strikingly similar to that of Prof. Trelawny (sorry if that’s misspelled). Speaking of Latin, the first Harry Potter book has been translated into Latin and Greek.
I’m reading Philosopher’s Stone in Spanish for Spanish Class. It’s amazing.
I’ve read that! It’s one of the better Spanish selections that my local library has.
BARDA BEEDLEHO FTW!
Arrgh. Getting out of school at 2:00 is great, but it does have the drawback of not many people on MB when I go on.
I scored a paperback called “The Wonderful World of SCIENCE!” for free today, because the Tech room at our school was giving away old stuff. I haven’t looked at much of it yet, but it’s this book from 1961 about science experiments kids could do for under 10 cents.
Obviously, I can’t do any of the ones that require sending away for things, because the companies are probably not even in business anymore, but the free ones you can do with things around the house shouldn’t be a problem.
Also, the introduction is addressed to “boys AND GIRLS seeking careers in science”, which makes it incredibly progressive for the time period.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *screams* *screams more* YUUKI IS A VAMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! (For those who don’t watch anime, Vampire Knight is this show, and OMGEORGE Yuuki just got turned into a vampire!!!!!!!!) AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
(Also, I think I’m in love with Ichiru-san.)
I know! SPOILER But she and zero would have been so much better. I hate Kaname and her vampire-self annoys me.
YES. She is so annoying as a vampire. …although I do like her hair.
I realized something today: Aperture Science had the possibility to make a lot of money with their portal device. How? Simple: free energy. They’d just have to make a hydroelectric generator and teleport the water back to the top. Boom, no more fossil fuels, nuclear power plants, wind farms, or anything.
There’s also the cheap-space-launch thing. People are always going “Why doesn’t Superman just throw/lift satellites into space and charge money for it?”, but with teleportation, it’d be even easier.
I’m still alive.
My plans for life have changed dramatically (don’t worry, they’re still “to be”).
Tonight is the last night of my show, which will leave a gaping hole in my soul where once there was Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, stress, and Tom Stoppard.
I have a million things to say, but there’s not much point in saying them here because I can’t keep up with anything anyway.
110- I love Sherlock Holmes.
I’m about to head to the very first dance of my life! Squee! Wish me luck!
*sigh* It wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be…Jelly was there, and being annoying.
My friend thinks he likes me, but how do you tell a boy that you hate the air he breaths and the ground he walks on? :\
“No, I don’t want to dance with you.”
He didn’t ask me to dance, he was just being an ass. Like making fun of me, getting way to in my face, pointing me out to his friends, that sort of thing.
“You’re in my bubble! I need my space.”
Ignore him utterly. He’s too annoying to exist, therefore he doesn’t. Right?
Good luck, LBK!
I’ve been thinking about making a Wikipedia page on Wungs, but I don’t really know how to describe them. If I do make one I will to everyone here to help me make it as true as possible. I can make one on the Kokospiricy.
*Kokonspiricy*
That’s “kokonspiracy” to you.
I doubt it would work with Wikipedia’s “notability” policy. It would probably just get deleted immediately
Not to mention the fact that the GAPAs want to keep a low profile so as to avoid both spambots and trenchcoated men. I quite doubt they’d give their blessing to any Wikipedia pages or the like.
Goodnight MB.
Does anyone ever feel like they con’t get their brain to work? Like, however many times you read an equation, you can’t even begin to think about how to solve it, even though you know how to?
Yup. My equation is called “boys”.
Seriously, though, I have done that. It’s usually one of the last problems I have to do, and my brain is shutting down, and I just can’t get it.
I got my printer fixed!
I wish the weather would start acting like September. I love autumn, and I wish we had it this year.
I finally got around to going through some photos from the summer and putting some up on FB. Yay! There’s more to do yet, but at least I’ve got a start on it.
I must stop eating licorice at such an alarming rate. It’s so delicious though……. :/
This is very disorganized, I apologize.
Oh, god. That explains so much….I’m rewatching Sound of the Drums, and I guess I didn’t notice (or didn’t think anything of it before), but the Master’s watching Teletubbies at one point (and enjoying it). I mean, honestly, that explains SO MUCH about why this particular regeneration of the Master is (quite literally) mad. I mean, really, 5 seconds of those…things….is enough to drive even the most sane person completely and irrevocably insane. *shudder* Those things are positively disturbing.
I think I rather prefer the first Master, though, the one in Pertwee’s era. They’re so *different*, and it’s weird, having just watched a very large number of episodes with the original Master, to watch this completely different version of the Master, although, really, every regeneration of the Doctor is so different, too, but I guess I’ve just gotten used to that. (But, god, the Tenth Doctor is so angsty, at least in Series 3, isn’t he? I mean, I just watched the two eps with Family of Blood, and, wow, I can’t see First, Second, or Third Doctor being so “Oh my god, sniffle sob sob I’m so alone, boo hoo.” I mean I love my Tenth Doctor and everything, but…Yeah. And I finally get why everybody’s all “Shut the bleep up about Rose already, Doctor”, because, while it didnt’ bother me the first time I saw that season, was rather annoying upon a rewatch. Although Martha’s whole whinging about everything always coming back ’round to Rose at the beginning of “Utopia” was REALLY annoying. Quite frankly, I rather wanted to smack her upside her head. Yeah….Not sure why she never bothered me the first time I saw her episodes, but her whole Doctor-love is really annoying now.)
Anyway. yeah. Rambling. That’s what too much caffeine plus lounging around in bed all day does to a person…..(And by too much caffeine, I may mean that I drank 2 liters of Mountain Dew over the course of the day…..)
^^^And this is our Luna-half, in case that wasn’t quite apparent from the insane rambling nature, and the references to a ridiculously large amount of Classic Who viewing….
oh my god guilt. i haven’t watched classic who in so long. it might end up having to just be a summer project, college is SO BUSY. and then when i do have free time i have to be all social or something because apparently i’m popular now (or so people keep telling me when i guilt at them about how i am bad at remembering who people are and how they know me)
anyway yes. i should try to find some time and watch a serial or so tomorrow :-/
I don’t have proper internet, so I CAN’T watch Classic Who anymore. But I’m also not going to college, so I have all the free time in the world. Only not really.
I love the Tenth Doctor. But I agree he was TERRIBLY angsty. Especially in the specials, although there was that awesome moment when he decided he could break all the Time Lord rules.
I didn’t like Martha much at all, because I hated the whole trend of Doctor-companion romance, which was great with Rose but hey, you can only take it so far. I didn’t mind his talking about Rose because I love Rose and so did he, supposedly, but I did mind when Rose kept coming back. Again and again and nothing ever came of it. That said, I think I’d be pretty happy if Rose and her personal 10th Doctor came back for a special or something. Though I may just be saying that because I want to see David Tennant. Much more than this Matt Smith fellow. I STILL cannot feel truly at ease with him. I don’t know why. His Doctor just doesn’t really strike any chords with me.
Now, you see, you have got ME rambling about Doctor Who. My friend gave me a Dalek cell phone charm and the “You never forget your first Doctor” shirt from Thinkgeek.
So I don’t know if anyone else watched tonight’s premere of Sharktopus, but it is a hilariously bad movie and a ton of fun if you watch it with awesome people. And then take that same group and spend 2 hours taking turns reading My Immortal out loud XD
Anyway, lots of stuff to do tomorrow that I will talk more about later… ‘night all.
Sharktopus? Dare I ask if that’s a shark crossed with an octopus? Because that sounds…..completely insane.
That is it, indeed! It also has spikes and apparently the ability to last for several minutes out of water as it walks around land on its tentacles. But it’s okay because it was GENETICALLY ENGINEERED, you see.
Yeah it’s terrible and there’s more plot holes than plot but it’s also hilarious XD If you ever saw Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (another hilariously terrible movie), it’s basically that sort of thing.
Was it on SyFy? It’s hard to pick my favorite bad SyFy movie… There’s so many…
It was indeed XD
Selachimorpha octopoda?
Greetings from Germany! Yes, I’m finally here!!!!! It’s very exciting to be here, by myself (okay, not really by myself, with friends, teachers, and my host family, but still…)
My school has an exchange with a school in Germany, which I got chosen for (and posted about, half a year ago, I think). I go to school, as well as doing some sightseeing. There are 19 other kids from the US, and two teachers. We’ve been here for about a week.
The school trips have been lots of fun. We went to one of those swimming “paradise” places (very hectic with more than 60 kids (everyone has at least one host at school, as well as one home host), to Hamburg, and to a Navy memorial. We also had an overnight trip. I’m looking forward to the trip to Berlin!
Ooh, neat! German food is so good!
When is NaNoWriMo? I have an idea for a pokemon novel/story thing, but I want to save it for NaNoWriMo so I’m motivated.
November. *can’t wait either*
November. It always is. Yeah, this is kind of the time of year when non-NaNo writing slows and planning starts.
NaNoWriMo is November.
Can’t wait!
Ooh, awesome! I think I may participate this year!
I already have kind of a plot outline (but of course I haven’t started writing yet). I just need to figure out everyone’s motives.
*can’t wait*
What is it what is it what is it?
It’s going to be a love triangle and everyone ends up dead, but I’m going to have fun this year with ludicrous overwriting, descriptions that burst off the page like a sunset in the hinterlands spreading out its rays to the depths of the sky and caressing the mild clouds that float, spector-like, above its crown of red fire that burns with the fiery anger of Hephaestus’ forge. Think Amanda M’Kittrick Ros.
Bless you.
I love overwriting. It brings me the joy of a thousands Christmases, each one filled with presents of love and happiness and a train of wonder going around the tree of faith that is decorated with ornaments of…I ran out of adjectives.
NOVEMBER ONLY THIRTY FIVE DAYS EEEEE.
Yes, I’m rather looking forwards to it. Why do you ask?
Well, I want to try and participate this year. I have a sort-of plot outline. Which reminds me…*stalks off to write ridiculously long profiles*
And they dressed Meg up and made her a perfect little doll. Except I think I’m more of a Jo. And there was no Laurie there to reprimand me, which is too bad, because I love Laurie… *likes making Little Women references*
Anyways, that’s sort of how I felt last night after my roommate had done my hair and make-up and nails last night for homecoming. (My nails are a lovely green now, although it all feels kind of strange since I never paint my nails, especially not my toenails.) I borrowed an amazing dress and shoes from my sister. I actually wore character shoes for homecoming… A bit untypical, but they gave me a bit of height, I could walk in them. And then my roommate and one of my sophomores decided to have a spa day yesterday, so I figured why not. Hence the green nails.
At the dance, after my roommate’s date dumped her (which she’s oddly happy about), she and one of our friends made me dance with them and a few random sophomore guys… It was actually kind of fun once I got over my shyness and dislike of school dance style dancing.
I went to a dance last night too. Only it was a ballroom dance. It was fun. I actually understand Ballroom terms now.
Jealous. I love ballroom… My school’s salsa night had not salsa dancing. It made me really sad.
Aw. You should start a salsa club.
With Paul Newman’s pineapple salsa!
Lucky!
I had a dream that I was somewhere (I think it was a big banquet thing) and then Rosanne and Rebecca showed up and I got to meet them.
I remember having MuseBlog dreams before my Kokonventions.
I had a dream a V-22 Osprey landed in the street in front of our building.
Was it an MV-22B?
It wasn’t like a real one, it was painted olive with something that I can’t remember written on the side in golden circus-type lettering. Something with two “ee”s in it.
My uncle did electrical engineering work for those!
I had a dream that I was at a big banquet thing and Robert and Rebecca were there, and it all turned out to be a gigantic Kokon with absolutely everyone there. It was the most dream fun I’ve ever had.
I’ve dreamed things like that so many times…
We just picked apples from our orchard! My arms are about to fall off from holding up the tarp. (We make cider out of most of our apples, so we don’t care if they get a wee bit brusied. And it’s much quicker.) My dad shook the tree branches with a boat hook thingy. Me, my best friend, her sister, her mom, my mom, another friend, and his mom caught the apples in a tarp, which is much quicker than picking every one. We all got hit with the apples occasionally though. It hurt quite a bit. We should’ve worn hard hats.
We have the biggest apple though! It’s so huge! There are a couple of bad spots, but we’ll just cut them out. IT IS SO COOL.
Augh, that sounds awesome. You should send me some cider.
We’re going apple picking next week. Fall tradition. We go to this farm somewhere in Massachusetts…It’s really nice. They have good donuts.
We go somewhere every year too… And then the ice cream place nearby has apple pie ice cream.
The weekends always go by so quickly…
I am worried. Something is wrong. I believe I and my friend Iris have been cursed by an ancient and powerful spirit that is turning our lives into a cheesy movie about high school.
We’re all in this together… ♪♫
Did… Did you really just quote High School Musical?
(chorus kicks in)
No, no, no, nooooooooooo
No, no, no
Stick to the stuff you know
If you wanna be cool
Follow one simple rule
Don’t mess with the flow, no no
Stick to the status quo
No matter how much I hate those movies, I absolutely love the status quo song. It just gets stuck in my head…
Have I posted my Hubble Space Telescope version of that? I think so…
I mean, she did say “cheesy movie about high school.” You CANNOT get more “cheesy movie about high school” than High School Musical.
Elaborate, please. Have people been breaking out in song in the hallways or something?
Have you ever seen, I dunno, it was like High School Musical 4 or something? It was a spoof, where that guy (Zac Effron…?) comes back after graduating from college and tells everyone how in real life, people frown upon you when you spontaneously break out in song…
It was really funny. Search it on YouTube.
ZEFRONNN
THAT IS A BOSS ZEFRON POSTER
WHAT? *IS CONFUSED*
AVPM. Watch it. Now.
Yes, do. And AVPS, too. Trust us, “it’s gonna be totally awesome!”
EVERYONE KNOWS HARRY POTTER LOVES ZEFRON THE MOST
NO DUMBLEDORE DOES!
Except… He’s going to be gay. Not that I have anything against gays, it’s just that it’s going to harder to imagine me as a guy who he’s kissing rather than a girl. So that sort of stinks. Oh, shoot. I forgot. I’m loyal to my future hubby, Darwin. ♥
(Why am I talking in caps?)
Oh gosh. I love AVPM/S so much. Darren being on Glee is going to put me in a disgustingly good mood all week. YAY!
(Okay, that was a rather strange post. I’m in a strange mood tonight.)
And do you spend a lot of time pretendiing that Darren Criss is snogging you? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you, just wondering…
*coughcough* Erm…
Nah, I’m kidding. Well. Maybe. Not really… ish. Nope.
HAH.
Now you don’t know whether I’m telling the truth or not, do you?
Actually, sorry, but, yes, I do know which was the truth. And that was that you spend a lot of time pretending Darren Criss is snogging you/you’re the person Darren Criss is snogging.
Darnit. *glares*
Sounds great, but I can’t find it. There are way too many High School Musical 4 parodies and fake trailers.
My life sometimes feels like an Archie comic, only with more work and fewer puns.
OH MY GOD, MY SCHOOL DOESN’T BLOCK MUSEBLOG ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*pant pant* This is so awesome!
My school stopped blocking it recently too.
Hear that, fellow GAPAs? Their defenses are down. Our time has come!
But, of course. Resistance is Museless.
Unless it’s only on that one computer, which also does not block YouTube. But still.
Speaking of stupid blockings, my school computer once blocked Google. And then later it blocked WIkipedia for “being a scam site”.
My school usually blocks Google Images, but our teachers tell us how to get around it.
A few years ago, they blocked my school’s e-mail addresses (yourname@schoolsname.com) just because they were run through Gmail.
And at the school my dad teaches at, they won’t even let teachers override the blocking system. So even if my dad wants to, say, show his kids a video about the water cycle on Youtube, he can’t. Lessons like my English class today, where we watched a clip of Back to the Future to talk about zeitgeist (
), are completely impossible.
I could go on all day…
My school computer blocked National Geographic once, and on a separate occasion, blocked NASA.
So….I’d like to take this moment to inform all of you AVPM/AVPS fans on the ‘blog that, just in case you’ve not heard this, Darren Criss (that’s Harry Freakin’ Potter, obviously) is going to be on Glee. ((And it’s gonna be totally awesome!))
My friend and I spent the whole day talking about Glee and Harry Potter because of this. She kept on trying to convince me that Kurt and Darren would make an adorable couple, and I eventually agreed, due to her use of the name “Darren Chriss Colfer”.
Anyway, I’ve been suppressing this for the duration of that post:
*fangirl SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE* ♥
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. There is so much awesomeness going around right now I feel ridiculous. I mean, I literally do not know what to do with myself. AHHHHH.
I don’t even watch Glee (too far behind to start now… have to catch up at some point) but I am watching at least one episode in the middle of everything just for Darren.
Even better, he might be Kurt’s boyfriend. (His character is definitely going to be gay.) Kurt/Harry forever!
Haha, you are such a slasher, other half.
You know it! Kurt pairings are awesome!
Speaking of the 70s: Today would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday.
Not until October 9, I believe.
Today is, however, the birthday of Gwyneth Paltrow, Avril Lavigne, Meat Loaf, and Cosimo de Medici.
Is it good or bad that I’ve only heard of the last one?
Hi-five!
Why thank you!
Good.
*hasn’t heard of any of them*
I’ve heard of three of them, but not Mat Loaf.
I’m sad to say that I’ve heard of Avril Lavigne but not Cosimo de Medici.
Butbutbuthewasrulerofflorencepatronofartswhowasheadofthemedicifamilywhogrewtocontrolitalyintherenaissance *wimper* Never mind.
*gasp*
i’m sad to say i’m sure you’re not alone. i’ve known the medici for ages but i’m fairly sure people could go through all of high school without hearing about them. they’re not required knowledge, as far as i know
No, it’s October 9th. Remember, it was the same day as the LCROSS impact last year.
*LCROSSLCROSSLCROSS*
*Hyperventilates with remembered excitement*
Sorry.
Yay, LCROSS! I mentioned it in science class the week it happened.
First of all, I miss MB! I had an extremely busy weekend – I went to a *certain* amusement park (not The Wizarding World of Harry Potter unfortunately, but it was still flammy) all Saturday with some friends which was a ton of fun even though the roller coasters were insane and I almost died. (On the inside, of course. From fear. But they all turned out to be awesome in the end.) On Sunday I had church, some high school open house stuff, and a soccer game (we won!). And somehow I managed to do this and still have time to do homework/studying.
But on the subject of school…we are really getting swamped this year. It definitely feels like we’re getting a lot more tests than last year, not to mention the piles and piles of homework – with shorter deadlines. (And I know it’s only going to get worse from here.) I’m not really complaining though (ok, fine, I am) but really somehow I’m managing and doing ok. There’s just so much going on now. I don’t know what I’m going to do in the winter and spring when I have sports practice four days a week for school…
Wow…..I just spent ten minutes staring at my laptop screen while it was asleep, trying to figure out why on earth there was a large greenish colored blob area in the middle, since the whole screen is supposed to be black. And then I finally realized, it was the light from my window shining through the apple logo on the top of the computer, not any damage to the screen.
I feel stupid (although incredibly relieved that my screen isn’t messed up).
One night when I was younger, one time I nearly had a heart attack because I saw a flying saucer through my (closed) bedroom window hovering above our street.
It was actually the reflection of my desk lamp.
That physics test I had last week? the one I was worried I’d make a bunch of stupid mistakes on (like the practice test), and thus screw up what would otherwise be a really easy test? I got 110%.
((10 point bonus question))
Displacement is too a vector, isn’t it? Because the internet would certainly tell me it is, but my physics TA marked me off a quarter point on my last lab report, because I had it listed as an example of frequently encountered vectors. I want my quarter point back.
Yes it is, it’s got both a magnitude and a direction. Displacement is the corresponding scalar.
As to whether it’s frequently encountered, I would also say yes, but physics was never my thing.
You mean direction is the corresponding scalar, I think.
Ah, sorry, I meant distance.
‘k, that’s what I thought. And since she accepted wind velocity, weight, and electrical current as frequently encountered, I’d certainly think displacement would be considered frequent….
So I’m in a film photography class and I’ve done a TON for it this weekend. I processed 2 rolls of negatives yesterday, and both came out fine, which I’d been worried abotu since the first 2 I tried to do last week didn’t work at all (turns out it was probably the camera I’d been using). And today I spent like 4 hours in the darkroom working on prints. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s like magic watching the photos appear when you slide the sheets into the developer. I’m going to go back soon to work a bit more ^^
Also I can listen to my ipod in the darkroom, haven’t really had a chance to use it much otherwise (I’m usually either in class, eating, hanging out, or working, and when I work I try to do it in the lounge with friends). ♥ Music ♥
Also it rained today, I love the smell when it rains
I’ll post later about how quidditch is going and how the rules/playing works
Off to the photo lab for maybe 2 more hours, and then 4th meal (I eat at 10pm and then don’t go to breakfast (though I have cereal in my room). It’s nice to have a snack late at night and this way I don’t feel bad for not using up all my meals)
Your class sounds great. I always wished I’d learned darkroom — guess you could say Photoshop gave me a second chance. But still, there’s nothing like the experience of working with actual materials!
Piggy’s favorite class this year: AP Spanish. Except it’s way too easy yet because there are people from both regular and honors 4, and the regular students need to catch up. I talked to the teacher after class today and he told me it would be pretty slow for another month or so, then pick up speed. But he gave me a textbook of short stories to work on, and he said that he has a lot more at home–poetry, novels, and the like–if I want more. Good. I’ve been reading and listening to BBC Mundo as well. And downloading Chilean indie synthpop.
Piggy’s least favorite class this year: AP Literature. The teacher is dull as heck, the other students are dense, and it’s taught in a horrible manner. Thus, I can’t bring myself to care about it at all, and I have a C to show for that apathy. The way English is taught in our school system has never worked with me, for whatever reason. It’s easy and I love reading and grammar, but I’ve never been able to jump through the appropriate hoops. It’s especially bad this year because I’m dual enrolled–the grade’ll go on my permanent college record in addition to the high school record. Of course, I very well may not be going to college, so enh. Senioritis hit me halfway through my sophomore year, and I’ve been coasting ever since. I’m still in the top ten in the class, so it’s not bothering me.
1. Great! Good to hear you’re immersing yourself in Spanish.
2. What’s your AP Lit textbook?
3. Why would you not go to college?
4. Class rank does not have much meaning on applications.
I think he’s considering becoming a monk, or possibly a priest.
May I steal your Spanish teacher, please? Or at least his book collection?
I’m having a similar situation in French, but it is first-year, so apathy is a little more expected. Why are there people of such varying levels in your class?
.1- I can’t recall my Lit textbook, but we don’t use it much anyway. And I know class rank doesn’t matter.
.1.1- I’m learning more towards priest now.
.2- I don’t know, you can ask him.
Aww, too bad. The Norton Reader is an excellent work.
Actually, I like almost everything Norton produces.
Oh, I have a friend who’s planning on becoming a priest! Or possibly a theologian. She’s not sure yet. But she’s at college to figure it out!
Lady B.? Do you mind if I use the Hare design and the Hedgepig design from the H&H sign in a design for Paker cards? (And, if you have the time, could you post a larger copy of Robert’s Heron and Rosanne’s Rose? And, if you have especially long, a bigger version of the Hedgepig?)
Thanks! (I’ll be sure to credit you if they go anywhere aside from MuseBlog. Which is unlikely.)
Of course you may use them. There are some 250×250 versions in my public Photobucket album: http:// s171.photobucket.com/albums/u291/rglasley/. If you need something bigger, I can track down the originals. I upgraded computers recently, so those files aren’t on the hard drive yet.
Thanks! Those sound perfect.
My second blogiversary is a week from tomorrow! ♥
According to what I just calculated, I’ve been on MuseBlog for 28.5% of my life.
(including long hiatuses, obviously, but still!)
32.5% of my life.
22.84%.
22.5% for the Luna half
about 28% i think
My brother’s school is doing Annie as their school play, and he got chosen to play Daddy Warbucks!
143.1- For sure! And it’s really helping me understand digital effects on photos as well ^^ It’s only a black and white class, but I’ve finally figured out the whole deal with color dodging/burning (even though I haven’t actually used these techniques yet… I need more tape and cardboard).
But yeah. I spent a total of 6.5 hours in the darkroom today, and I have 3 good prints and 3 others (2 duplicates that I got better the second time on, and one that came out blurry but I know the negatives not so I just have to redo it). That doesn’t sound like a lot of stuff to show for it, but I also made 3 contact sheets (sheets with a bunch of negatives on them so you get an idea of how they all will look before you enlarge them), and test sheets for all the contact sheets (using different amounts of light on different sections of the sheet to determine how long to expose it for), and test strips (same as test sheets except with smaller strips of paper so you only see a section of the enlarged print, because paper is expensive and we are poor college students) for all 4 prints. And each print/test strip/contact sheet takes about 15 minutes total exposing and in all the various chemicals, so I was working pretty nonstop.
I probably don’t have time to go back to work more tomorrow (…I should probably do some REAL homework, plus I have class there for 2.5 hours anyway then quidditch after), but on wednesday I’ll be spending extra time there getting my 4th print right and choosing/developing my 5th and 6. I have to do 6 for thursday’s class (we’re critiquing each other), but it’s so much more fun than work. I also want to process more negatives, because I took a roll of pictures on expired (read: older than I am) film and I want to see how they look/what happened to them.
Also I was really excited at the end of class, because I was looking at my prints and Pipo (the main teacher guru for photography here–my teacher is a visiting prof, I like her a lot though) complimented my work ^^ He asked if it was my first time printing and I said yes, and he said I had a natural talent for it eeeee
You’ll have to excuse my excitement this week. On friday I was really depressed/nervous about photog because I had no workable negatives (due to a camera malfunction) and so no prints, but saturday and today totally reversed my mood. So yeah, ignore my outbursts XD
Also once I have all 6 finished I will probably scan them and send them in so I can show them off, if that’s all right XD
Yeah! I got a 92 on my AP Euro test! Of course, there was a 22 point curve, but I still did pretty well, I must say.
In other news, I’ve become obsessed with Regina Spektor again. Her lyrics with her piano playing and voice make an awesome combination. “It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song. You can’t believe it, you were always singing along. It was so easy, and the words so sweet. You can’t remember, and try to feel the beat.”
I also love 5 Years Time by Noah and the Whale and Human by Darren Criss, who I do not imagine myself snogging all the time. *coughcough*Luna*coughcough*
Yay, good job! I love curves, as long as people don’t get mad at me for breaking them. *cough* I have an AP Euro test on Monday over the Renaissance, which unfortunately means that I’ll be slaving over my books (not really) during Homecoming weekend. You’ve already done that time period, haven’t you?
Piggy’s four favorite days of the year: when it starts smelling like a new season. One of those days happens to be today. It didn’t smell like autumn yesterday, but it does today.
I just saw a gray fox running across the road in my neighborhood!
jade – OH MAN THAT IS SO COOL
also pipo is a really awesome name XD yay i’m happy everything is so awesome! 8D
ALSO QUIDDITCH
what position are you? you probably said already and i just missed it hahahafhjkd
beedle – HURRAH HURRAH that’s wonderful! many congrats!
Yesyesyes THE CHESS TEAM HAS BEEN RE-FORMED! *runs around in happy circles* And we might even have enough people to compete this year (we have basically the entire former junior high team + a new guy) and I’ll get better at chess and we can still get *name* (who’s on the freakin’ international Austrian team now) to play with us- okay, we won’t place as high as last year, but we’ll definitely get into the top 12.
My dad saw a huge bull moose in our driveway yesterday!!! He got some really awesome pictures.
Oh! That’s so cool! Moose are awesome.
I could imagine moose living here… People would panic. “It’s rabid! Kill it!”
Well, the common belief around here is that all animals are diseased and have rabies, and should be eradicated at all costs. Opossum out in the day time? It has rabies! Raccoon wandering about in day time after you scared it out of the dark garbage can it was sleeping in? It has rabies! Bird flying in circles? RABIES! Just kill them all!
*grumblemumblerumble* You wouldn’t believe how ignorant these people are. My friend volunteers at an aquarium, and this lady told her son a sea star was a horseshoe crab, even after she corrected her. It’s like we’re breeding a generation of idiots. Drives me crazy.
She thought a sea star was a horseshoe crab? Ouch!
*Has worked as a nature educator*
*And spent many summers on the beach*
Yes they are! Actually, moose normally live further north, but there was one trekking through [my town] that day! Unfortuntly, I was at school. We usually see at least one when we go to Baxter, though. You really don’t realize how huge they are until you see them up close. One time, when my friend and I were little, we saw this moose about 5 feet away (Through some trees), but my dad didn’t. When we finally pointed it out to him, he freaked out, cuz we were really little and he was afraid we would get trompled. Another time, we were*cuts out the rest of moose stories because I could talk about moose for a veeery long time*
I love how the Master watching children’s TV was canon all the way back in the 70s, ages before we find him watching Teletubbies in Last of the Timelords.
In Sea Devils, we’ve got him watching some children’s show with mice/rat puppet things, and him thinking they’re some sort of depiction of extraterrestrial life (just as the Master in LotTL seems to be under the impression that Teletubbies actually exist–which, thank god, they don’t except on TV).
I finally got a Homecoming dress! My friends and I were talking and I mentioned that I didn’t have one yet – but it turned out that one of my friends had a couple that were too small for her that I could try on. Yay, free dress!
It’s an ivory halter top, just a little bit above knee-height, and it has silver decorations on the bottom. It’s really pretty, and it fits me well. Plus, my friend had shoes that matched, so that’s yet another thing that I don’t have to worry about.
Our actual plans (psh, who needs them?) are rather undefined at the moment. We know we’re going to this one girl’s house to get ready and then going to a restaurant, but we don’t know who exactly is coming or when anything’s happening. Plans will hopefully get more specific by Saturday, or we could end up being a very confused group of sophomore girls (and one guy).
Dear friends of MuseBlog,
My sincerest apologies for not keeping up sufficiently as of late. I will try to remedy this, I promise. I will also try to do this without sacrificing my schoolwork, which I really must get done. Enough of that.
What do you all think of dreadlocks?
I think they only seem relevant if you’re a bongo payer.
Eh, I don’t like them that much.
I got “Down By The Bay” stuck in my head right before I went to bed last night. It was pretty funny. I was lying down humming it and trying to sleep while everybody else in my family was asleep.
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow
Down by the bay, I will not go!
For if I do, my mother will say:
(Someone finish it!)
Did you ever see a whale,
With a polka-dot tail,
Down by the bay?
I always heard the second line as “Back to my home, I dare not go!”
I’ve learned the second line in the same way. Back in second grade, as a class, for the talent show. We also learned “God Bless the USA” since it was shortly after 9/11.
Same here. I still can remember the lyrics to “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “God Bless America”, and “From a Distance” for the same reason.
Yes, it is. My memory betrays me yet again. *sigh*
When I daydream, if I come up with something particularly good I hold on to it for a long time, revising it as things come up and/or daydreaming up new versions of the original daydream depending on the situation. One of my current long-term daydreams is basically that I find someone with at least one of the same music obssesions with me, and we end up singing a song together by trading off lyrics. (See Embi Family post.)
Well yesterday, before school, I met this guy talking to my friends. We talked about video games for a little bit, and then he started singing “The Ultimate Showdown (of Ultimate Destiny)” I happen to like this song, so I sang along for the chorus (That’s really the only part I have memorised, unlike him).
There was a brief break while I shrugged off a friend who was trying to hug me (I’m not a hugging type of person) and the guy started singing again. He was singing a different song. It started “When the devil is too busy, and death’s a bit too much…” I cut him off there by exclaiming “You like ‘When You’re Evil?!'” And we ended up singing it together.
At no time did we trade off lines and we only sang snippets instead of the whole song, so I guess that’s a daydream half-come true?
(Everyone who read throught this whole thing gets ens favorite kind of pie.)
*takes piece of sugar pie* That’s awesome…but I’m only here for the pie. *om nom nom*
In other news, does anyone else read “Scandinavia and the World” on deviantArt?
I do!
I love Iceland.
We got to take our laptops home! Yay! Well, actually only my friend and I did cuz we were taking a STUPID TEST and we missed some work, but still! Yay!
So, tomorrow’s October… can we get a hint as to what era will be next month’s theme?
We don’t usually give hints, but just this once: it’s at the same time European and non-European, with a salubrious climate and stunning architecture.
It must be Turkey!
I just texted one of my friends to boast that I managed to figure out a proof, by myself, and got it right today. Then I asked about another one I was having trouble with. Reply: “Yeah, ur way wont work. you have ass, not sas, and ass isnt a theorem. u need ps=sv.” I love having a math teacher friend who’s totally fine about the prospect of me calling in tears to rage about whatever problems I’m having in geometry. SHIPMATES ARE THE BESTEST EVAR AND I LURVES THEM. This is also the buddy who I couldn’t give a piggyback ride to the bar to because I had dock watch, so I just gave him a piggy back ride up and down the deck before he went to the bar. And the one who moved around awkwardly with me while others danced.
Seriously, adorable math teacher friends who you adore platonically FTW! (And yes Robert, you fall into this category as well.)
Okay, enough raving. ♥
I was tutoring math earlier tonight, as it happens.
