Robert says:
I’ve had a request by e-mail for a more organized and, well, educational program for a D.C. Kokonvention. So far, all I’d been planning to do was a quickish tour of my magazine (Science). But I can add other things if there’s a demand for them. I have other science-writer friends who can give tours, and of course there are loads of museums and things in Washington. I’d need a bit of advance notice, though, and it probably wouldn’t be worth planning anything for a group of fewer than four people.
So assuming something is going to happen this summer, when will it happen, and who is likely to be there?
Hey, my first first post! I suppose i must go crazy. :O
:O :D! Hurrah! Huzzah!
Anyway, you should probably do a pie fling thingy or something.
not me.
1 – We will gladly confiscate all those pies instead of fining you 1 peice of virtual chocolate.
3-Alright, who was that!?!?
Anyway, if you can come, please post in bold so we can count how many people there will be.
This is going to be fun!!!
Oh, Robert-will some of the other GAPAs be there too?
ATTENTION BUNNY-LOVERS!!! Will you be able to come?
LETS KOKONVENE!!!
i will be in DC sometime in august. maybe wednesday the 15th?(in august)
August sounds nice, that way I won’t be in camp. Around the 18th or 20th, cuz my school starts on the 21st.
Ah, darn, I’ll probably be in school around August 18-20 because we start insanely early. Pero…no doy un comino in reference to those silly rabbits.
So it goes, I guess. Eat lots of pie without me, ‘kay?
I think I might actually be going to DC late this summer, though, so if it’s in early August I might be able to make it. Maybe.
How early is early?
Washingtonians know that you’d have to be crazy to come here in August. That makes it the perfect month for a Kokonvention, I’d say.
DC? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGG! No can do! I live on the opposite end of the country!
Taiwan Hippo Fan and I can come, but it depends on when it is. We live about 4 hours from D.C. We are going to be gone in June and most of July, but August would be GREAT! My uncle and aunt work in the United States Foreign Service Department (in the embassy), but they’re moving to Croatia at the end of the summer so they probably won’t be up for giving too many tours. But there are some really great museums we could go to. Robert is probably the best at suggesting museums, because he lives there, and I’ve only been there twice.
Great!
I used to work for the Foreign Service (that’s where I learned Arabic) but gave it up to become a science writer. It’s a fascinating career.
dude u speak arabic? that is so cool!!
8- Yeah, DC peaks at like 98 degrees in August. You speak Arabic? Wow.
And I know I’ll be gone the 11-18th, so only either really early August or late August is ok for me.
I can’t go , I don’t think. But it’s a cool idea, and I was just in DC, it’s an awesome place except for the sidewalks…they put bricks over the roots and everything so when you walk you have to always stare at the ground so you don’t trip over the mini hills, and I want to be looking up at everything there is to see…
oh well, If there are people interested in a cheep place to stay, the William Penn House is pretty cheep and comfortable and it’s directly in town, but it’s for quakers mostly and there are 10 people to a room, but that’s where I’d go if (when) I ever go back.
also, Robert, though you might already know this, it’s easy to get Capitol tours if you go to the Longworth office building and find your representative’s office and ask for a tour, I don’t know how you’d do it with people from all over, but I was told it’s easy because giving tours is one of the things the interns do. I was also told that the Library of Congress is very elaborate and pretty, aside from having every single book ever printed in the US. I really wanted to go there, but we didn’t have time
11 – really? That’s so cool! My uncle has been to Turkmenistan and Mexico, and my aunt has been to about a zillion places, because she has been in it much longer. But most recently she’s been in Armenia. My cousins (who are my age) can speak about a dozen languages, and were born all over the globe! My mom got into the Foreign Service (mostly to see if she could actually get in, also as another career option), but she decided not to join because my dad can’t work for the government (he didn’t register in case of a draft, or whatever you have to do, so he’s not allowed), and she likes her current job (voice teacher). I think my aunt learned Arabic as well, but I’m not positive. I’ll have to ask her. Maybe you know her…(probably not, but it’s possible!) My brother learned Arabic last year. He’s 7, and there was a boy who came to Pittsburgh from Iraq to have surgery, and my family really helped out with him, etc., and the boy only spoke Arabic. My brother, who was really young and was like a language sponge, just picked up the language and could speak it! I don’t know if he can anymore, but he could communicate with the boy, and it was really cool.
I can come to DC almost any time in late July to mid Augest. Augest in DC actually is’nt that bad, you just have to wear really cool clothes and sunglasses.
11-my grandfather works for teh dainsh foreign service.
and my uncle works for the american. tis cool.
June 2 is the only day that works for me. Any time of day. Robert, you said only morning right? what time would be good? and who else can come June 2?
18-*sighs* I can’t come on June 2. *dies*
The ONLY day? *dies again*
That’s sad. With that name you must like birds, and, well, with my name… *dies yet again*
DOES AUGUST 15TH WORK FOR ANYONE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

i will do a bunny to make people look!
red tailed HAWK can you come on the 15th of august?
beavo the great can you come on the 15th of august?
can anybody come on the 15th of august?
if nobody can come on the 15th of august then can you still give me a tour???? (pretty please with a hpb on top)
ok thanks!
Hi kt-I can come on the 15th of August.
Is that good for you, Robert? (
s on top)
I can’t come on June 2nd
August fourth is my birthday, so I don’t know about August.
I think some great days are these:
June:
16th
23rd
30th
July:
14th
21st
28th
Please Post If You Can Come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yae! August is gude for me!
I don’t get what this is about.
It is gude? Yes, it is gude? x DDDDDDDDD
20- I can probably come on the 15th.
I CAN ONLY COME DURING AUGUST AFTER AUGUST 5th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the 15th would be fantastic. It seems that the most people can come on that day.
IF YOU CAN COME ON AUGUST 15TH! POST THIS!:
15
JUST LIKE THAT! WITH THE GREEN AND THE BOLD. OKAY? GOOD!!!!
How do you make it green? *Expirements with HTML* aga aga aga
A Wednesday? In the middle of the week? Not so good for out-of-towners, I’d think. A day next to a weekend might work better. How about Monday, August 6?
Nope, not green. *Continues expirement*
I’ll ask my mum.
28 – Do [a] this [/a] except with angle brachets instead of [ and ].
Don’t, please. Green text is supposed to indicate links.
The sixth is good for me and
AARGH!!!! I can’t come on the 6th. My parents have tickets to “spamelot” well… Maybe……… I’ll ask my mum, but probably not. ;_;
Nevermind, I can’t go on the 6th. “Spamalot” and “Camp”.
20-I dunno lemme go get my calander… *goes to get calender* well… I dont really know. We’re planning on going on a vacation some time this summer, but that could be almost any time.
Taiwan Hippo Fan and I can come in August, practically almost any day
What kinds of things are we planning on doing at the Kokonvention?
How about Friday, August 10?
(36),
Well, one Muser parent has requested some educational/vocational activities. I could show you Science magazine, and I have friends at other magazines and radio shows and places. I know some places that serve good pie (good for eating, I mean), and there are museums and galleries galore. There’s no shortage of things to do in Washington, of course.
Come on. No one at all for June 2?
I (Shadowkat) can probably go in late August!
37-Oh, what, no throwing?
Oh, I didn’t mean that. I just don’t know that it’s good for throwing, not having tried it for that purpose. Besides, it’s sold by the slice, which diminishes its throw-worthiness. I could probably bake some perfectly adequate throwing pies at home.
We should all totally throw pies. Either that, or just put a bunch of whipped cream in a pie tin and throw it…it’s much cheaper. But it doesn’t get the same effect…
(37) – The 10th works for us (I’m 99% sure)! And educational stuff sounds awesome. I also think, that when we get together, everyone should either write, or find an article about something they’re interested in, and we can compile them to make a mini-muse!
The 10th sounds good… It’s the day before my birthday (we’re leaving for the beach that day too, goody me I get to spend 4 hours in a car with my family and several guests)
Sigh. Why can’t I live anywhere near D.C. Alright, I don’t want to really, but you get it.
Neh, no going to DC for me. To far. Luckily, though, the next time there’s one in chicago I could probably make it.
OK. I’m not trying to be needlessly mean, but I live very far from DC. I’d have to take a plane. And if I could pay for a flight of that length, I’d use it to go to Mexico instead. Sorry.
I think that I can go on August 10th, and I can definitely go August 15. I have to check about the 10th.
This is what I think, my daughter doesn’t necessarily agree with me, but these are my opinions:
There are things that sometimes seem like a great idea but then you dig a little deeper and think maybe it isn’t so great to actually do.
Think about this…
– One of the best things about this forum is that you don’t know much about each other. I know this is what you want to change, but really? In real life, you probably won’t like each other as much as you do on the forum. Here you focus on one thing you have in common and nothing else matters. It may be hard to believe, but if you think about some of the people you really don’t like, there is probably at least one topic that you could have fun discussing if you could block everything else out.
– If some of you meet, others are left out and that would change the tone of your chats. It is nice that you are all on equal footing – no elite groups.
– Gapa has no guarantee. We could say we are going to show up, and really mean it, but what if only one person shows? All the parents could email gapa and say we’ll be there, but things come up, at the last minute we change our minds, etc. You MBers would show, but you know how parents can be.
– Gapa is taking on a lot of risk. There is the issue of liability. If we get together and someone gets hurt, parents could sue the gapa. By arranging tours, etc, he could be seen as the organizer, which is risky. The only way to avoid that risk is to get a lawyer to write up a waiver and get the parents to sign. Lawyers are expensive – so parents would have to chip in. How much? I don’t know. I don’t really know much about this – Gapa probably knows more than I – but it is something to think about.
Obviously, I’m trying to talk you out of this. I would love Capricious to meet a real Science Writer because this would be a good career option. But it would be super nice to relax and go about our usual summer plans – and you guys pick a new topic.
glassboro! so can HAWK and i!
what about you robert for the 15th?
please say yes!
Yeah, my mom probably wouldn’t let me go, but my dad would, and the fifteenth is GRATE!!
pwetty pweez?
Anywhere from august 7th to the 19th would work for me, MAYBE.
Capricious’s mom: I’ve actually met quite a few MuseBloggers, hrm, four in fact, and they seem so much like me it’s scary. I’m very good friends with them now, and I’m glad we got together.
I think it’s time for us to get the parents of all potential Kokonventioneers together with the GAPAs in an e-mail conference. Please have them e-mail us at the usual address, gapa @ musefanpage.com .
I can certainly come on the 15t! YAAAAYAYAYAYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
51(Robert)- How do you feel about what Cappy’s mom said? Or any other MBlog people-what do you think? Hmmm…
August would probably be good. Dunno about the rest of the summer. I plan on going into HP mania mode the last two weeks of July, though. And will be in school during at least the first bit of June. So…yeah…
The fifteenth does sound lovely, but I’d have to ask my parents and all…
I’m sure my mom’s opinion will change as soon as she gets home and I show her an e-mail. She keeps changing her opinions.

She thinks it’s not so much the social problems, but the liability problems and the “why to drive so far but this?” problems. But as I’ve said, she’s constantly changing her mind, so we’ll see.
*hopehopehope!*
(55),
I think your mother deserves major Mom points just for considering it at all. It’s a crazy, quixotic thing to do. She sounds like my mother.
Rosanne told me not to tell you this, but one argument in favor of August 10 is that she’ll be in town then. She’ll be gone by the 15th. Rebecca and I are available for either date.
Mainly we want you to have a good time and be safe. The easiest thing for us GAPAs would be to stay far away from the whole business. But that wouldn’t be much fun.
No e-mail from any other Muser parents yet. That’s one requirement we GAPAs will not waive if we’re going to be involved.
Oh do you want my mom to e-mail you? Okay. I’ll tell her…
There should be a message in your GAPA mail; my mother just sent the e-mail.
Sorry if this is a double-post!
(42 Capricious’s mom) – I understand some of your points, but there have already been TWO Kokonventions, and it hasn’t changed anything at all (at least I don’t think it has). And I don’t see how the parents could sue the GAPAs…first of all, why would one of them do that?, and second of all, just because they are in charge of the website doesn’t mean they would be responsible for something that happened to the members? It just doesn’t make any sense. I’ll talk to my dad about it…he’s a lawyer. And if we did need a waiver, he would probably love to do it for free.
GAPAs – you absolutely are SO COOL!! for helping with this, and I’ll have my mom email you.
39-They’d probably call the national army on you for threatining the prez.
53-I think cappys mom is partly right. If someone got hurt, that would be grounds for lawsuit. Also, if no one shows, that would be kind of boring. But about the not liking stuff? I only know two other musers, and although they arent my CLOSEST friends, they’re still pretty good with hanging out with me.
Take for example (JUST THAT) E2MB. He’s on all the threads I’ve been on, like the SSSS and Religions, and the Evolution, and Pie War. He is obviously interested in more than one topic I’m interested in.
Hey, I know! Virtual throw pies!
60-I don’t know any Musers.
If you guys decide on a date, let me know, so I can get to work on convincing my parents. Even though we live all the way across the country, if it’s educational they MIGHT agree. I’ve never been to DC. @_@
Ok, my mom is very against this, but if you were to email her, Robert or Rebecca, and she knew you were real adults, then she might begin considering it. My mom’s emal is what is in the email box. You may zap this beginning part of the post if you wish. I can come any time that is not July 15- August 4. The 15 or the 10 will probably work for me. I will have my mom on here to read this thread. She’ll probably agree with Cappy’s mom.
I’ll have my mom e-mail you, if I will actualy be able to go to a kokonvention, which it seems I won’t because no one has said that they can come June 2. The August one sounds like it would be great with all those GAPAs, but unfortunately I won’t be in D.C. then.
June 2 someone PLEASE?
Emma,
I know it’s not the same, but I work near the site of the spelling bee and would be delighted to meet you and your parents, even if no other Musers can make it.
I think meeting a GAPA would be even cooler than meeting another MuseBlogger!
I don’t even get out of school until June 7th!
June two is a Saturday, but still… A weekday around the second would be better.

68-No, sorry. The week beofre that is all Bee Week, which means I have plenty of other things to do and probably no spare time for a kokonvention, and we’re flying back home on the 3rd.
I think my mom is angry at me at the moment so it’s probably not a good time to ask her to e-mail, but i will as soon as I can.
56- I’m trying to talk mumsy into it. “Don’t count on it” is her current reply. Meh, she’d want to bring the whole family if we went to DC, which I would not tolerate…
Time for aggressive negotiations? Meh, negotiations will be short.
Oh, no, I did not just make a SW reference…. O_0
Hey, guys? It’s occurred to me that, since it’s probably going to be near the end of August, I doubt school will have started by then, and we could, conceivably, all plan to stay at the same hotel for at least some of the days from Aug. 10-15, so we can see Rosanne along with Robert (and hopefully Rebbecca), and we could turn it into a kind of vacation, and go on some tours, and whatnot, and make it worth the trip for the people from so far away. Everyone’s families could come, too, if they wanted to. What do you think?
Sounds good to me, I don’t know about my parents. I like the idea, though!
71- Yes! Brillante!!!!!! Yes, yes, yes, YES!!! That is boring “yes, yes…”… Here:
Si! si! Oui! Oui! Ja! Ja! Sim! Sim! Да! Да!
That would be fantastico!
( Italian! *heart heart heart* )
That actually would be great, because then we would have something more to do than visit for one day! I don’t really want to drive all the way from the mid-west (I think) up to D.C. just for a few hours with you guys. Although I would ….
I hope that everybody, and everybody’s parents, understands that parents are required for anything that any MuseBlog administrators take part in. As Capricious’s mother pointed out, we are sticking our necks out just by putting this thread up. So I’ll say it again: nobody comes alone, and we must hear from parents by e-mail.
I am going to D.C. next summer! We should do a convention every year.
Yeah! That could be interesting, but very, very hard.
Mom has e-mailed.
E-MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
75-kokonvention. It’s a combination of kokopelli and convention.
I was talking to my friend:
Me: Hey! Guess what!? I might get to go to a kokonvention in D.C!
Friend: Cool! A Coke-convention?
Me: Yeah!… Wait… Did you call it a coke-convention?
Friend: Yeah…
Me: It’s a kokonvention. It has nothing to do with Coke…
Friend: Oh! Yeah. I was thinking it was pretty weird to go all the way to D.C. for some Coke…
Me: *insert laughter*
Lol…that’s good!
Hello from glassboro’s mom. I would have loved to have done this when i was museblogger-age (though we didn’t have Muse
:-{ back then. So, though I understand cappy’s mom’s concerns, I think it would be worth the chance and I’d love an excuse to go to DC. We are still fairly unscheduled in August. I’d be willing to spend a night or two. Is it still unbearably hot in DC in the summer…?
MUSE READERS, UNITE!!! NOT ONLY ARE THE PAGES OF MUSE SMALLER BY HALF AND INCH, THE MAGAZINE HAS BEEN SHORTENED BY A !@#$#%^&* EIGHT PAGES!!! WE NEED TO ORGANIZE SOME PROTESTS!!! SIGN UP NOW BY SENDING FLOODS OF HATE MAIL TO THE MUSE HEADQUARTERS!!!Great. She didn’t even say Glassboro’s Mom as the name. And she got the smiley wrong. I’m embarrassed.
*Fines E2MB 1 bar of choklit*
I might be in town on the 4/5 on May, but It’s such short notice and I can probably come down in August. I have an uncle in D.C., so I would be able to stay for a day or two.
83 – Hate mail isn’t the way to go. If anything, writing letters explaining what you think, etc. would do the trick. State your arguments and suggest other things to fill the pages. I’ll help if you’d like.
THF and I can basically come anytime in August. Should we set a date for the Kokonvention? I think it would be good to do that sometime soon, because it would make everything easier. (Planning, etc.)
I think we’d decided on the 15th of August. Not sure.
84- At least your mother seems to know what a smiley is.
August! I might be able to make it there. Might. I am going to sleep-away ballet camp for a while, but not in August, thankfully.
GAPAs, did you get my mom’s e-mail? As of the last time I asked her she said she hadn’t gotten a reply.
My mom got your email Robert! Thank you for your work organizing this.
Sorry, etd, I haven’t seen it. I’ve replied to all the parents whose mail I have seen. I’ll check with the other GAPAs and have another look in our mail folders.
i will have my parents email you
(kt the gr8’s Dad)
Robert, I sent you an e-mail regarding the Aug. 15th date. It will be from pollydog.
Thanks,
Eric
so what is the exact date or do we even know or are there going to be three?
Either August 15th or 10th I presume.
92-Hey, did you get my dad’s email? If you replied, he didn’t tell me…
[We got it, and I did reply. –Robert]
Glassboro (82), It IS unbearably hot in DC in August! Let’s hope Koko brings ice cream pies.
Ok, she just sent it again.
I think my mom got your email, and replied saying I have a camp, but I don’t have a camp, so you can just ignore that.
Should we start making a list of activities for the Kokonvention?
98- That was my mom.
We should probably organize a tentative itinerary of what we’ll be doing, but first, GAPAs, do you have a list of who’s parents have emailed?
There are tons of museums in DC, it just depends on what you want to do. The American History museum is being renovated, and there is stuff from there at hte Air and Space museum and other places. I always like the Natural History museum, but that’s just me.
I went up to D.C. on holiday once, and I went to some of the Smithsonian museums. I went to the American history one, The Udvar-hazy museum, the Art museum, and the Smithsonian museum (the main building).
We where there over spring break a few years back I think, and the cherry blossoms where all blooming. It was great.
The best museum I went to last time I was in D.C. was the spy museum (not sure if that’s exactly what its technically called, but must be something like that). It’s not free like most of the museums in D.C., but it is really cool, so you might want to consider it.
I really envy you August kokonventioners (even if august is a horrible time t go to d.c.). i’d love to meet all of you. But alas, there’s no way my parents would let me go back to D.C. just for a kokonvention.
i am excited so badly!
I cannot come! I might be in NYC, instead. Maybe another time in the summer, though.
sorry to double post
my science teacher is obsessed with that place! can you reaally crawl in the air vents?
107- It’s overrated in my opinion, but yes, they do have a small interactive exibit with fake air vents you can crawl through. It’s fun, but it’s definitely a lot of reading with not much to actually see. I was with my aunt though, so I really can’t know what I would have thought of it if I hadn’t been with her. I have a slight inferiority complex with regards to my aunt.
Yes, I think a list of whose parents have emailed would be good, so then we can know who even might be involved.
107-It’s been 3 1/2 years since I went there, but I remember something like that. The main thing I remember from it is that at the beginning you get to choose an identity, like you’re in disguise kind of and you have to remember their name and age and birthplace and stuff like that, and then a couple plces later in the museum you get quizzed on it like someone’s interrogating you or somethig to see how well you remember it all……there’s a lot of other cool stuff too.
My cousins live in D.C. and said they absolutely loved the spy museum, but I hear it’s kind of expensive (or, maybe my parents just said that because they didn’t want to know. I have no idea…but there’s a way to find out!) *googles museum* Here are the rates:
Adult (ages 12-64) $16
Seniors (65+), Active Duty Military & Intel Community $15
Child (ages 5-11) $13
Children age 4 and under FREE
Ooh! Free! We should all pretend to be 4 and under!
109 – I agree, we should have a list of people who might be coming, and another list of possible activities, so it is easier to keep track of everything.
i think that the spy museam is defenately OUT!!!
how about the smithsonian? i think that is free!
OK, i am definently new to this muse blog but I have been a fathful suscriber for a while. So…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..nevermind.
Hi again! Does anyone here luv pink bunnies besides me?
Hi again!!! (PLZ tell me if i’m being annoying)
you are being annoying
115-not to be mean, but you are. We don’t generally like people posting more than once in a row on the same thread, particularly when they’re off topic and not saying anything useful.
PenguinZrul- Welcome! *pies* You might want to check out the Welcome, Newcomers! thread. Hopefully it will help to elucidate the rules of the blog and clear up your confusion. You might also want to check out The Rules and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Museblog. Don’t worry, it takes everyone a little while to adjust, but if you read Muse I’m sure you’ll fit in just fine. Have fun, and most of all, Don’t Panic!
Oh, Roberto, darling, can we pleeeeaaaase have a list of people (possibly) coming?
Sorry — I’ve been too busy at work to do any more planning this week, but I’ll get cracking soon. I have some ideas that will be fun. (Also some that would be fun but probably are too expensive, such as zooming around town on rented Segways.)
So far we’ve heard from the following MBers’ parents:
Capricious
Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan
emmatheduck
grnqween2011
kt the gr8
Red-tailed HAWK
Shadowkat
Shadowkat’s Dad is fine with the idea of a Kokonvention but wants to wait for cooler weather. He has a point. Washington in August can broil you.
No! Cooler weather is a TERRIBLE idea! (Well, not so much.)
Becuase it seems that most people can come in August!
Yes, it’s hot. But we can do something about it. (Such as using electric fans, wearing shorts etc.)
We can’t do something about if if people can’t come.
Y’no what I mean?
120-I can’t come in August though (i’d love too, but my parents won’t let me go all the way to D.C. Just for a kokonvention)
btw Robert, how’s the weather there now?
122- I don’t mean to sound rude or anything to ANYONE. I just thought that we already sort of decided on the 10th or 15th of august, and the majority of people said that they could come then.
I thought we where pretty fixed on that date. Like, it’s kind of late to be proposing a different date…
I don’t know, that’s just what I thought.
It’s school now. It’s hard to come now.
(On an unrelated note:)
I’m going to D.C. next year for a field trip! *dances*
YAHAYAYAH!!!
123-Sorry, I wasn’t saying you were being rude or anything, I was just pointing out that I should be on the same list as the rest of you because I won’t be there. we’ve already figured out that no one else can make it the same time as me.
18 days until the bee! aaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
124
you will do FINE!
124- OoooOOooOoooooh… Well then… Maybe… Nah…
G-O-O-D L-U-C-K!
124-No I won’t.
We (my family) just realized that if I make it to round 5, which is the first televised round, I have a low enough number that I could conceivably be the very first person to misspell a word on national television in the 2007 national spelling bee. That’s a nice cheery thought, isn’t it?
127- OooOooOOoooHHH!!!! What channel?
Yeah, what channel will you be on? ANd what time? And what date? I will watch you. Do you have to spell it out loud?
The national spelling bee is only on TV starting at round 5, so by then about 5/6 of the kids will have been eliminated, so don’t count on me being there.
However, I might be, and even if i’m not it’s fun to watch. It will be on ESPN on the morning and afternoon of May 31, then the finals will be on ABC in the evening. I’m not sure about exct times but i’m sure you can find them.
130 – I’m definitely watching. What number are you?
I don’t think she can say because then you would be able to track her down. But still cool to be in the national!!!
Robert-well, that is a point…but I would hate to delay the kokonvention any more!!! Hmm………
131-I don’t think I can tell, since that would be pretty much telling you my last name, but I think i’m the only Emma in the bee
133 – Well, I know your last name anyway, but that’s definitely handy that you’re the only Emma. I’ve never seen the national spelling bee, but I have seen the movie “Akeelah and the Bee.” Have you seen the movie? Is the national bee/preparation for the bee anything like that?
134-I have seen it. It got quite a lot of facts wrong, which I could rant about for quite a while, but I’m too tired right now.
Anyway, I know YOU know my last nae, but I stil suspect the GAPAs wouldn’t like me posting it. (probably aren’t too happy that you know it either, but who cares?)
135 – Whenever you have enough energy for your Akeelah rant, I’d love to hear it!
136-Wow. Someone WANTS to hear me rant?
Well, for one thing, the whole format of the bees s completely wrong. She had four bees, going from school to national with two other levels in between, though I don’t remember specifically what they were called in the movie. In real life it is 4 levels in some places, but only 3 in some, and I know that it’s only 3 in L.A. Also, no matter where you live, only ONE person moves on from each bee to the next level. This goes for every place, and every level of the bee. In the movie, there were like 10 people moving on from one of the levels.
The timeling was also messed up, because she saw the nationals on TV like a week before she had her school bee, and then she had a summer at some point in between bees. In reality bee season is only a few months, beginning with school bees in January or February, then local bees are ganerally around March and nationals are end of May or beginning of June. there is no summer in there.
Also, it said that they were the first co-champions ever, though really there have been cochampions three times before in 1950, 1957, and 1962.
Also, the word xanthosis was the 1995 winning word, so I doubt it would be used again in the national bee so soon. They do definitely reuse words, but probably not winning words because they get so much publicity.
I think there’s more, but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.
130- Wear your museblog T-Shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we can see you!
I don’t have cable, so is there any chance of finding it on the internet?
138-for the televised part (if I’m even there, which I probably won’t be) everyone is required to wear the spelling bee shirt. Otherwise I definitely would.
139-You caan’t watch it on the internet as far as I know, but you can see how everyone is doing at www. spellingbee. com or if the GAPAs delete that you can probably find it by googling “nationa spelling bee” or something like that.
140- Then wear a button! Or some unique thing that you can tell us about like a chunky necklace or something.
what time will it be????? and where exactly?
The kokonvention or the spelling bee?
141-I don’t having anything good that I can think of. But please remember you guys, it’s unlikely that I will be there at all. And if I am you’ll know me when you see me, because I’m the only Emma. Also I have brown, curly hair if that’s any help. That’s all I’m saying though.
144 – Of course you’ll be there! Have faith in yourself! You made it this far, you’ll do great! (wow, exclamation point overload!!!)
We should probably start figuring stuff out for the Kokonvention. When in August? The 10th or 15th? Where are we meeting? How long? More than one day? Where will people stay? What will we be doing? We need answers to questions like that…
The GAPAs have been consulting. We’ve decided to hold two Kokonventions: a big one on August 15, and a smaller one on August 10 for those who can’t make the other one.
We’re still working on a list of events for each. Right now, the main difference is the August 10 will have three GAPAs presiding (Rosanne, Robert, and Rebecca), whereas August 15 will have just two (no Rosanne, alas).
