Chess Eterna-ment Rankings

Inspection of the chess games on the blog found only one game (Tesseract vs. bookgirl_me) still in progress*. To keep things tidy going into the new year, the Chess GAPA (Robert) has adjudicated and closed all other games** of standard chess and calculated new MuseBlog Chess Ratings on the basis of the results. Ratings for Capablanca and Turbo Chess are unaffected.

Here are the new ratings, as of January 4, 2011 (numbers in parentheses indicate number of games on which the rating is based).

*(Finished on January 8; ratings updated to reflect the result.)

Latest update: 24 September 2011.

  1. Anyone want to play a game of capablanca chess with me?

Warning! It might take over half a year to complete.

      1. It’s like normal chess only with two extra pieces; the Archbishop (can move like a Bishop and a Knight) and the Chancellor (can move like a Rook and a Knight). You can see it as it was first created (and play around with the pieces) here. So far two have been completed: this one and this one; this one has been abandoned.

  2. Would anyone like to play regular chess? I’m sorry, but I have no idea what capablanca chess is.
I’m not very good at chess, however.

    1. I’ll play you. My chess game with Enc has died, but I’ll try to keep this one moving. What kind of game are you looking for?

      1. I’ll stick with regular chess: the knight-bishop and knight-rook concepts are a bit over my head, and turbo chess has a lot of queens, right?

  3. It’s looking like a bad year for chess on the blog. Last month, four games were in progress. Now:

    • In Ducky vs. bookgirl_me, Ducky resigned without explanation after nine moves.
    • In SudoRandom vs. Radiant_Darkness, R_D has been waiting for Sudo to move since January 23.
    • In Radiant_Darkness vs. Pie Girl, R_D has been waiting for PG to move since January 8.
    • In Enceladus vs. SudoRandom, Sudo has been waiting for Enc to move since January 21. (Come on, Enceladus, just play 28 Qh5 check and get on with it!)
    • I wish there were a quicker game to play on the blog (Hex or Reversi, for example), but chess plug-ins are all I’ve found so far. I’ll keep looking.

  4. You can get an account by clicking Log in at the top of the page. Then click register and enter account info, and wait to get your account verified (After you’ve been on the blog about 6 months, I think) The GAPAs will set up a chess game once you have an account and someone accepts your challenge. My chess game with Errata isn’t very active right now though, so I’d play you if no one else does.

  5. I never played Radiant Darkness, did I? I don’t think I did… I’m horribly confused.

Bibliophile, would you be able to/ want to play a chess game sometime soon?

          1. I found myself suddenly overloaded with various things due to the fact that my classes got all switched around until I had to make up a ton of stuff just to be able to do harder work; I didn’t feel as though I could keep up and I really didn’t want to leave Tesseract hanging, as I definitely forget about it. Things have slowed down a lot sooner than I thought they would, though…I apologize.

  6. Why am I both at 190 with Errata and at 120 points?

it’s obviously the universe telling you that you should give me 70 bonus points for no logical reason

        1. I would love too! (Sorry for the delayed post, I haven’t checked this in a while). GAPAs?

  7. Umm… Robert, I think my game against Ducky (back in January) was accidentally ranked as ordinary chess instead of Capablanca.
