Some MuseBloggers have complained that it’s getting hard to keep up with the flow of messages here. That’s particularly true for those who aren’t on line every day. So as an experiment, we’re devoting this area to longer messages–say, a good, solid paragraph and up. Anything shorter will be sent to the FMP. (No blocks of hundreds of smiley faces, please!) The idea is to create a space similar to Muse Mail or the pre-blog message area on the dear old Gaboomba. Here goes…
The Anti-Chatroom
Can’t check in five times a day? This place for long, slow, thoughtful posts may be what you need.
Hi. This is great. Nice, slow, long messages. well, none are posted yet. How long is a paragraph considered?
I and my friend are organizing a bake sale to help people in Pakistan and Guatemala. Is anyone doing something similar?
Well, Mirjana C.,
Have you ever heard of that Magazine that buys agricultural products for people in dire need of them? I’m giving money to my mom (you get money from your community by entering contest, random-picks, recycling, and donating your hair to charities) who is subsequently buying
a) goats
b) cows
c) ducks
d) basic transportations such as horse-drawn wagons
e) etc.
For people in places like Guatemala and all those. I also have tons of those “Have a Heart” Wristbands that fund Katrina and the solution to Breast Cancer. When I grow older, I know I’m going to donate my training car (that’ll probably get banged up) to a place that trades it for money, and I’ll send that money to places in need. Charity is such a wonderful concept, is it not?
I also advise
a) garage sales
b) home-made jewelry sales
c) car washes (if you’re old enough)
d) money-gain-walks
e) A small business
Continuation of E: The American Girl Library provides a small book on Girls and Starting basic businesses.
f) baby-sitting
g) volunteering in your community
the two benifits
1: Better chance of getting a good college (really!)
2: Money
h) check out this book from a local library or buy it from amazon.com, called “Better than a Lemonade Stand”. It really helps when you want to gain money for such worthy causes as your own.
hey mr. GAPA sir?
NO FAIR!! i had a nice long comment too! what happened to it? [lots more edited out] *sulksulksulk*
Your post was long enough, but it was too chatty. Here on the Anti-Chatroom, the formula is
(1) at least one paragraph,
(2) at most one topic.
It’s unusual, but I’m sure you’ll get used to it.
I’ll try to be slow and thoughtful, but I do have a few questions for the Muse Aministrator People: What if I go on for awhile about one subject, and then switch to another one and go on about that? Do I have to make a seperate post for it, or can I do it all in one? Like here, I’ve talked about this, so do I have to stop and wait for next time to talk about what I really came on here to talk about? Could you please answer this so I can know if I have to talk about the stuff in one post? I really didn’t mean to be chatty, I was just asking a question.
We’ll be merciful. Just remember that we’re trying to do something a little different here (and only here; MuseBlog is still at least 98% chatty, as I’m sure you’ve noticed).
Hooray!!! I was beginning to get worried that I would have to make really disconnected posts because I wouldn’t be able to refer back to other posts. I’m really relieved!
Okay, on tothe real subject. Have any of you ever taken a Miers Briggs test? It’s supposed to tell you what kind of personalitie you have. I took a little bit of one for a class at church. It had four parts, are you extraverted or introverted, meaning do you get your energy fom other people or from you own inner world, are sensing or intuiting, meaning do you gather information with your five senses or buy hunches, are you thnking or felling, meaning do you analyze stuff, or just go with the way that seems right, and ore you judging or perceiving, meaning do you like order and planning, or are you more spontaneous. I’m introverted, intuiting, thinking and perceiving. When we were done, the lady giving the test handed out sheets for whatever personality we had, and man did mine ever fit me to a tee!!! It had stuff on there like, ” can tend to reduce everything to a set of classification schemes,” and , “generally formal and distant with strangers but are open minded and accepting of people as they get to know them,” and those are exactlylike me!!!! It was really pretty scary. Have any of you ever taken a test like that?
‘ello, all. random factoid time! yaaay!
fact: the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz movie quotes the Pythagorian Theorem.
fact: Gary Larson almost got eaten by a python once.
fact: To Kill a Mockingbird is an awsome book.
fact: Phoenix just found a yearbook quote! yaaay!
fact: It is not a lemon quote.
fact: It is, “one who wishes to conduct an orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.”
fact: hurrican WIlma is going to hit my grandparents AGAIN!
lie:my name is Slartibartfast.
I am sooooo excited!!!!! I got my first actuall babysitting job!!!! I am to babysit the little 3 yr. old twins across the street and I’m so excited!!!!!!! Yet I’m also nervous because as I said, this is my first time babysitting someone other than my sister… This reminds me of that second step program we had today. We were talking about conflicting emotions and empathy. I wonder how my mom felt when she got her first babysitting job… Anyways this could be the most important babysitting job of my life. If they like me I could be recommended by them to other people, who might ask me to babysit for them!! Boy are those emotions battling so much!!!!!! I can’t wait for S@turday night!!!! I’m sooooooo nervous!!!! I think I feel the nervousness winning the battle of emotions… no wait there goes excitment… I think I’d better go somewhere else before my emotions get out of hand… C U Later!!!!
Finally. My geometry class is killing me (literally. It has knives) so I can’t post nearly as much as I ‘d like. I should actually be doing my homework now.
I take personality tests quite often, though I’ve all but renounced Quizilla. Story “quizzes” are often cliched and full og chatspek that irks me like a moose. Yes, like a moose.
I had my math test today and I really hope I get an A… I sort of forgot to study but I had time before class so I decided to study then. The only thing I didn’t get was one of the vocabulary… I think it had something to do with inverse operations but I’m not sure… The question was something like this: An _______ is an equation with 2 or more varibles. I just blanked. I always blank on the last question of a test. It just depends on how long it takes me to remember the answer. This time I just could not remember the answer! Still I can’t remember it!!!!! It just keeps eluding my grasp…
I like taking quizzes and filling out forms. It makes me feel more…satisfied to classify and organize things. I have no clue why. Do any of you know any good sites for quizzes, personality or other?
I had a math test today. Well, the second half of a math test. The proofs part (I’m in Geometry). It actually wasn’t that hard, but I don’t find math or proofs hard- I got 100s all last year in Algebra.. It seems like I’ve been having a lot of tests/auditions lately- Region is tomorrow. This year I’m just going to try not to let nerves affect me. My teacher gave me a lot of warmup stuff to do, including the dreaded Kourgoff etudes.. they sound like air-raid sirens, in 1st through 7th position, and there’s a series of them in different keys and stuff I’m working though. Less than 250 more days to go before I finish, though. Anyway, I go practice.
And Robert- about the one subject thing- I’m not good at that, even on the Gaboomba I jumped around a lot, and I remember that we did have many different topics floating around in our posts, so do we really have to limit it to one topic?
WoojaKitty: I fell the same way! Quizilla and Blogthings are good, but I warn against some quizzes. Always check ratings and descriptions before taking something.
ALSO! I’d like to warn everyone against “survey” sites like Simplesurveys, etc. People often don’t realize that they are keeping that information and can use it without your consent.
Lizze: You’re in Geometry too? We’re at a triangle chapter, and I still find proof really hard. I had to stay and exta half hour to finsih the test today. My teacher is kind of impatient with me though, and that certainly doen’t help.
The babysitting job went great!!!!!! I got $15.00!!!!!!! The twins were little angels. We watched a movie, ate popcorn, bumped down the stairs, etc. They are sooooooooooooo cute. It was hard to keep an eye on both of them though, because they kept running off in different directions! Also when they talked they carried on two seperate different conversations! Whew.
Also the middle school band (which I’m in) didn’t march in the parade because we didn’t have rain gear. Also I’m glad we didn’t because it was 30 degrees out, the wind was blowing, and it was raining. The high school still had to march though. haha!!
A) If anyone needs help with math homework I’d be happy to help! I am currently in Pre-Calculus so I can help with anything up until Pre-Calculus.
B) Congradulations on your babysitting job Kricket! It is allways fun to have fun with the kids you are sitting!
C) I a really glad this topic is here since I was starting to really miss the old Gaboomba!
Welcome back, E~A! It sounds as if Axa (#11) might welcome a little coaching. And speaking of math…
Phoenix (#9): The Scarecrow misquotes the Pythagorean Theorem. He says, “The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.” That’s not true. Anyone remember what Pythagoras really said? (Moral: never accept a second-hand brain from a fraudulent wizard. See what useful advice you get on MuseBlog?)
If you sqare the two sides of a right triangle that make the right angle, square them and then add them together, it will equal the remaining side squared. I think.
Correct! Squares, not square roots, and right triangle, not isosceles triangle. Maybe the script writers thought “isosceles triangle” sounded more impressive than “right triangle,” but it’s clear that the Scarecrow’s new brain needed an upgrade.
Maybe it was supposed to be like an inside joke for anyone who payed really close attention to the words being spouted from the scarecrow. You never know, some of those script writers might have had a really bizarre sense of humor.
Ich am trying to sprinkle Middle English words throughout my posts, but ich guess it gives it a really strange feel. Ich was planning on just sort of dropping them whenever a word ich could translate came up, but ich am agast that it doesn’t work so well, in that ich kind of have to try really hard to find a way to put the words ich know in my posts.
Next week ich have a big speech and debate conference from Wednesday thru Saturday. Ich will be going adoun with a friend of mine, and ich will have to spend the night at her house Monday, and go adoun Tuesday. It should be a lot of fun, in that we’re both teenage girls.
Yeah, I’m exploding in the vacuum of space-I mean math. My teacher thinks I need help with this one thing, but I don’t. It’s just really hard to concentrate when your ears are getting blown out from yelling.
I heart the Pythagorean Theorem.
where did my list of ‘okay’ go??? you didn’t delete it. if you did,
shame on you!!!
I didn’t delete it but maybe another GAPA did. Robert??
A list of “okay” doesn’t seem like material worthy of the anti-chatroom. Maybe that’s why it disappeared.
Robert has certain hopes and dreams for the anti-chatroom. You can read them at the top of the thread.
Rosanne speaks sooth. The hordes of interloping OKAYs fell by mine own hand.
Unrepentantly,
Robert via Treo from Chicago
a squared + b squared = c squared c’est la theorie de Pythagorean!
today i had a dream when i went to bed. I was scuba diving in the water (i dont know where). Suddenly my scuba gear came off, but then i figured out i could breath, i must have had gills or something. Then i swam deeper and deeper till i got too a seaweed forest. it was pretty cool because the light was coming throught the spaces in the “canopy”. then a bunch of sharks and rays came out from in the forest. I wasnt afraid of them, and they werent afraid of me. Then a current came and i found i had a tail so i could swim very fast and then burst from the surface of the ocean. then my alarm woke me up at 6 30 and i relized it was Saturday!!!!!!! : oops :
One time I woke up early in the morning on a saturday and began getting dressed for school. then I realized that it was early in the morning on a Saturday but for some reason I thought it wasn’t. I then proceded to go back to bed and sleep as sleeping is good. Reading is also good and so is Muse. Especially reading Muse!
Tomorrow’s Saturday!!!!!!!!! Yay, that means my mom’s letting me stay up late!!!!!!!!! I feel so happy.
I’m leaving for the speech conference Tuesday. I won’t be able to post from Tuesday to Saturday, so you’ll just have to live without me for a while. *sigh* I don’t know what it will be like to came back after almost a week and find my precious MuseBlog totally changed during my absence!!!! Maybe I could get online there, or maybe that would be percieved as rude and imposing, since I will be staying at a host family’s house, meaning just some family who volunteered to keep us there for a while. I don’t know how I’ll live without posting, or at least checking up on wonderful MuseBlog!!!! *sniff* I think I might cry.
Ahhhhh!!!!!!!! My head aches… Is this math for like, high schoolers?? I’m only 12!!!!!!!!!! Can you keep the math all ages?? Welcome back E-A!!!!! Thanks! I’m in Pre-Algerbra… I think we’re learning that therom… No wait we learned it last year… Oh yeah!!! Unless you’re talking about a more difficult PyTm… then I won’t know it… I got a 96% on my math test.. which was the highest score… I love math, ss, science, english, and reading! I also loooove wood shop… I want to take a metal shop class in high school… It sounds fun… Why am I thinking about high school when I’m only in 7th grade… my brain is muddled… I’ll come back here when I triumph over my opposing team in soccer… Bye!!
oh taday ( saturday) i won my against an opposing soccer team that is a pretty big deal because we hadnt won a game yet. I still wish i was on a different team even if we won and i scored the first goal. the reason i have for this is i have no friends on that team. I have almost finished the story im writing. (not) i just like convincing myself that so i dont feel so dissapointed. it is of course about me but it has a midevel twist to it. the twist is its set in midevil times ( big suprise). alas i am now being pulled by a somewhat arrrghhh strong arrghhh force so long frien…………………..
I have writer’s block again… I almost scored a goal today in soccer… That is a big deal because I’ve never scored a goal before… My story is a real fantasy story…. I want to get it published… Issy, Stella, Zelda, and Hazel are characters in my story I’m writing… Issy’s real name is Layna but Stella, Zelda, and Hazel dubbed her Issy… She’s destined to be the Queen of The Moonlit Lands… Also the Lady of the Woods is going to help out with her… somehow… The Lady of the Woods used to be the old Queen Kimika…
Read the prologue of my story in the Harry Potter 6 muse version!!! Please!!!! Go on there!!!!!!!
This is the only time I can post today so I’m going to try to get everything I want to say in this post. probably won’t.
Have any of you have boy trouble? I have. There’s this kid in my sci class that I really like. The only thing is that I can’t tell what he’s thinking so I don’t know if he likes me or not. He keeps glancing at me and I don’t know if it’s because he likes me or if it’s because I glance at him a lot too… Anyways I need advice… This guy is the top boy in his class and I’m the top girl in my class… Help me!!!!! (since this is only supposed to be one topic I’ll go post somewhere else)
mousie- Are you willing to go out with someone (I.E. this boy)? If so, you could ask him out. Or, you could tell him you like him. Or don’t tell him anything.
Mousie, I have not the faintest figment of advice for you. I personally make it a point to show very little emotion when I can help it and I usually do my best to discourage the occasional boy who sustains enough mental damage to get sweet on me. I just am not a very, well, inviting person, you know? I have zero experience with this stuff. sorry! (and oh yeah– did you get your name from “Love Amoung the Walnuts?”
maybe. I’m not sure… I really really like him just i’m too shy to tell him… I wish I was like Ebeth, then I could actually tell him… I wish i knew if he liked me… I mean he… well, can anyone explain boy habits????? There’s a dance at my school and I know he’s going. (I’m going too, this is one of the only dances of the year there’s two) Until then I’m still trying to figure out if he likes me or not. I think he does but i’m afraid of being hurt if he doesn’t. Help!!!!!
Well, today, because it was the big football game against the “rival” school in the neighboring city (I just don’t get this whole football yay run around knock people over stuff), the teachers didn’t give us much homework. And so, instead of practicing, I came on here instead. Of course, I don’t actually have anything to practice, since all my competitions and stuff are over and I haven’t had a lesson since then, but anyway.. And all-state results are coming out Tuesday, instead of Monday, which makes me sad.
And we had a chair test in orchestra yesterday. Which I, and the rest of the section, messed up on.
In happier news, we had a Geometry quiz today with an indirect proof and I actually knew how to do it and I think I did pretty well. I don’t know, indirect proofs and inequalities have been confusing me, but I think it’s getting cleared up now.
no I haven’t even heard of that what’s it called? “Love Amoung the Walnuts” no I didn’t get my name from there…
I got a really good grade on my math average today (my teacher told us)!!!!! I got a 97%!!!!!!!!!! yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also got a 95% on my Practice Writing!!!!!! yeahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! That was one of the highest scores.
Why isn’t anyone on this thread?!?! I’m in loooooovvvvveeeee… the dance comes up in December… I really like this guy… *sighs* I need advice on what to do. Can some one please help me!!!!!
I won a camping supplies package today at my school auction… There’s a tent inside… I wonder how hard RR (the guy I like) clapped when my name was announced at the assembly…
you could try to ask him to dance at the dance or ask him to the dance
I’ve read Love Among the Wallnuts. Good job on your Geometry quiz, Lizzie! Congratulations on your math average and practice writing mousie!
36-Mousie…
Because you are the top girl, boys are naturally attracted to you. Sometimes, even though you are young, you have to be careful and see if he just wants you as a tool to gain his own popularity to higher levels than it is. So, pass him a note at lunch, let him write back. Be sure to include in your note that you like him, would like to go out with him, and should get together sometime. Plan to sit together at lunch, meet after school, or at your house. Get to know the boy before things go haywire. If he seems like he really likes you…
I.E. acts a bit nervous around you, expressing lots of affection, go for it. Otherwise, he not worthy. Be very careful around boys, especially at a young age. I, myself, prefer to stay away from them. But you are different, and I don’t mind that. So good luck!!!
Love… ew-hew…:)
another thing to be careful of…
a) if it gets around you and he are going out…he’s garbage.
b) if he suddenly ignores you…he’s trash.
c) if he breaks up and then gets back to gether all the time…he’s junk.
d) if he acts with true devotion…he’s gold!!!
Don’t forget…your diary is the perfect place for you love and affections.
Are you top as in popular or smart?
I’m top as in smart. i’m not very popular… The thing is, he knows were I live ’cause he took clarinet lessons from my mom. yep, he’s a true band geek. He’s not that popular… just about as popular as me actually… I can’t ask him to sit with me ’cause there’s no room at my table. My friend Issa brought her boyfriend over but now they broke up yet he still sits at my table…. *Grumble* yes he does act nervous around me. I met him last year when we both were stopped in the hall for running on the way to lunch…
He was so funny! He told Mr.F that he was power walking and then when we went to lunch he started to power walk just to prove he power walked on Tuesdays. (of course he really was running but he wasn’t going to say so!) As we ran up the steps to lunch he said, “Watch Mr.F come through the door.” and I’ve liked him ever since… * sigh* he’s soooooo cute… Just so you know, I won all the top grade awards last year except for Social Studies. My bff won that!!!!!!!!! And I read the most books, got a trophy, and am now known as “The smart one” !!! lol!!!!!!! Everyone wants either me or RR in their group since we’re both equally smart!!!!! He gets like all the same grades as me… Like when i got a 95% on a Practice PSSA Writing, so did he!!!!!!
Oh on further note, good job on your Geometry test!!!! I’m doing inequalities in Pre-Algerbra too!!!!!! Are your inequalities anything like this? 10x
No, our inequalities are like “Find the value and list the sides of Triangle ABC in order from shortest to longest if the measure of angle A=3x+20, the measure of angle B=2x+37, and the measure of angle C=4x+5”. Or questions where they give you two triangles stuck together (like, a diamond divided in half) and the measures of some of the angles and tell you to list all of the sides from smallest to largest.
And mousie- just talk to him sometime, like in the halls or something..
I went ice skating today and I’m really tired now- I’ve been tired a whole lot lately, I guess it’s because of all the stress and stuff I’ve been dealing with in the last few weeks- I was going to have 3 violin competitions only I dropped one so I only ended up with 2, so I was practicing a lot, I had a major english project that took a long long time to do in the same period of time, I had various tests, and I just was really stressed out.. All-state results come out on tuesday, though..
in my class we’re factoring polynomial equasions… it looks hard but it’s actually kinda fun to do, especially after Zyviva showed me a trick that makes me not have to do any of the work
Okay phoenix stump me! I found RR’s yearbook picture today!!!!! yippee!!!!!!!! I’m in loooovvveee… I can’t wait for tommorow! He’s in my English and Science classes and his locker is right by mine. (only about 5-7 locker doors away…) I’m friends with CQ whose locker is right next to RR’s so I go over and talk to her so I can see him more often…. That’s not the only reason I go over there though! I help her with HW and all that stuff… *sigh* Monday. You know this is the only time when I wanted it to be Monday… I have my flute lesson on Monday… yippee… joy…
mousie, you are WHIPPED.
hehe, just kidding. one of my best friends (older bloggers would know her as Queen Stephonia) sounds EXACTLY like you. we made up a code name for the kid, we called him Zebra so no one would make fun of her when she ranted (“did you just say you ate lunch with a zebra? you go on safari or something in the last half hour?”) it really helped.
problem: (a really easy one ;))
12x-4x+57=45
you have to FACTOR it, not solve it.
What do you mean, factor? I’m sorry, I haven’t done math in about a week, and it’s pretty late so I can’t think. If you tell me what you mean by factor I can probably do it. 8x=-12 that’s all I know, and that means that x=2/3, but you didn’t want solving.
I mean, that means x= – 2/3.
No, actually it’s x= – 3/2.
? Was that first x supposed to be x squared?
solving it would be easy!!!!! I did that stuff a while ago!!!!! I believe you are right MontgomeryGurl!!!!!! oms I can’t wait for school!!!!!! wait mousie did you just say that? yes mousie I did. sorry, third dimension moment… RR is in my 2 &3 period classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yippee!!!!!! I saw him coming out of gym one day and I guess he had just taken a step counter quiz with M!!!!! I had to do that too and boy did it exaust me out!!!!!!! I took 2778 steps while playing a 30 minute soccer game in gym!!!!!!!!! I still got an A… Anyways he was all red faced and everything and the day before he had an ice pack on his neck. Then he took it off… uh oh I got to go post on some other threads before the bus comes!!! Adios!!
ugh. factoring. factoring eeeeeeeeeevil. i hated that stuff. grrrrrrrr.
we’re still doing proofs. boring useless proofs. terrible horrible proofs. nasty icky evil proofs. geometry proofs are the most effective instruments of torture ever invented. oooooooowie.
I like the indirect proofs though. those are cool. like either this is true or it’s not, assume it is, and then blah blahblah throught the rest.
I haven’t been on here in a while. let’s see if i got the principles of the thread. DID I HOLD UP TO THE GAPAs DEAREST DREAMS??!! WILL MY POST THEN BE POSTED??? DOES IT COUNT FOR ANYTHING IF I SEND VIRTUAL CHOKLIT???
mousie’s got a bf..woo woo!!! lol!
Factoring is annoying. It takes more time and effort than I’d like to spend on anything, but I learned it anyway. Actually, I learned difference of cubes and all that whatnot because I was one of 3 students in my Algebra 1 Honors class on a super-special extra-hard learn-it-yourself-from-pages-scanned-from-a-textbook-because-you’ll-be-tested-on-it augmented math thingy. It was interesting.
But Ebeth, proofs are interesting. They really help you see why on earth you solve something the way you do. True, you have to learn a lot of postulates, theorems, converses, corollariys, etc., but once you know them you’re fine. It’s harder to make stupid mistakes. They also are easier than algebra. Honestly, I’m very relieved to be in geometry because ther’s so little stuff involved that most people don’t already know subconsciously.
Also, you get taught a lot of geometry in previous years. I mean, I’ve known all of the stuff about when parallel lines are cut by a transversal for years. Geometry is not so much the what as the why.
So it’s pretty easy, all thing considered.
Long enough for you?
you lost me there… I’m only in Pre-Algerbra for Pete’s sake!!!!!!!!! sheesh! oms I almost talked to RR today!!!!! yeah! I was going to talk to him at his locker before 7th period classes but he had already left for his class (Reading I think). Oh! some time ago we were talking about stupid questions in science class, and RR raised his hand and said, In fourth grade I once asked a teacher if spelling counted on a SPELLING TEST!!!!!!!!! The whole class began cracking up!!!!!!!!!!!! It was sooooooooooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no HW today…
I typed up a nice long slow thoughtful post/rant about math. then i went off somewhere else. without hitting submit! grrr…i hate myself sometimes…
yeah so now this sucks cuz i can’t remember what i said and have really nothing to post. so just telling everybody that I’m off to bang my head against the wall now…
omg mousie that actually happened once!! i mean the teacher said no! it wasn’t my class (of course. I never get lucky liike that. *sigh*) but somebody raised their hand and asked if spelling counted on the spelling test and the teacher said no!!! so their spelling test didn’t count!!! because the teacher was one of those cool teachers that actually stuck by what she said. (i think it was a she…could’ve been a he though) I was soooo jealous! (althow eye achally gote 100% one allmoste alle ofe tha spleling testes.)
btw what does oms stand for? or is that just a typo? enlighten me!!!
oms is NOT a typo!!!!! it means oh my snickers! I really like RR… whee… He’s sooooooooooo nice, and funny, and cute, and nice, and funny, and cute, and nice, and funny, and cute… etc. I get 100% on spelling tests all the time! except now we don’t have any spelling tests at all! yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I REALLY like RR… Here I’ll say his first name. It’s Ryan… *sighs* Okay I admit it I’m sooooo infatuated…. I wonder if he’s cognizant that I like him… I vow that I’ll talk to him tommorow! I’ll try!!!
Kricket!!!!!!!!! stop mocking me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you evil person you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *argggggghhhh* why do you torture me!!!!!!! I invite me over to my house, and right when I go to the bathroom, you post this ungrateful comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok ok… I’ll try to stop mocking you (for now)… Anyways yes I was telling the truth about the guy mousie likes name… It is Ryan… uh, hey mousie? invite me ? shouldn’t it be invite you ? I want to see what this does… hang on… Hi!!!!!!!! okay what’s supposed to happen?
I knew that… oh cool! boldness!!!!!! yeah!!!!!!! mwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!! now how do you end it?
oops! sorry, Adon Moreh! it was supposed to be X squared!
mousie, I have a Ryan in my class and he is a major jerk. hope yours is better!
Oh dear
There is no excitement on this thread. I
will have to stir things up!
BE READY!!!!! Mwah ha ha ha ah ha hehehe hehe hohoho heh heh heh. *dashes away cackling*
Yes I believe he is better… Kricket in case you’re not on right now I’ll see you in English!!!!!!!!!!!! okay? anyways I am going to try to talk to Ryan today… He’s soooooooooooo nice, and funny, and nice… *sighs* skool alert!!!!! I’m gonna miss the bus! see ya!!!!
factor that? *gets out calculator because I’m too lazy to do it on my own* I got 12x^2-4x+12=0 but I’m bad at factoring because you don’t really use it past Algebra 1 and that was 3 years ago for me (I’m in pre-calculus)
here is a math problem: If there was a group of 10 people and each person shakes each other person’s hand how many handshakes are necessary?
another (taken from a math team event): In a regular pentagon ABCDE what is the measure of angle BDC? (when labeling the pentagon put one point at the top and label it A then continue labeling the points in a clockwise direction)
Do you people like or dislike math? I like math but a lot of you seem to dislike math.
I dislike math. baaaaaad math. even though i’m in honors. i really don’t know why i’m in honors math…
i like indirect proofs. there’s no point to them at all (yeah let’s prove that this isn’t right!!! what fun!) but at least i understand them. oh yeah and parallel lines. that’s what we’re doing now. the angles and all…that stuff’s not so bad. i really hate factoring. ick ick ick. bleh. grr. arrgh.
I’m starting to like this thread…i get to rant about math…heehee

Hmm… l really love math. Not sure why. But as to the handshakes… Each person shakes hands with 9 other people. So that’s 90. Not really all that much math required. That one’s pretty much logic.
And if I remembered my MathCounts Handbook formulas, I’d answer your other question. But I’ll leave that for somebody else. Never let it be said that I’m selfish.
MMI,
About those handshakes: Suppose there are three people: you, me, and Elasse-Adael. Each of us shakes hands with the other two, so… six handshakes, right?
Nope. I shake hands with you. I shake hands with E-A. You shake hands with E-A. Everybody has shaken hands with everybody else in three handshakes. -?-
Darn. I was being dumb and forgetting the divide by 2 part. I submit. You’re right. Darn.
And I thought I was good at math.
s’okay Memyselfandi. I do that too… I actually like math a little. I got a 96% in Math for my average… I wonder what Ryan got… I sort of talked to him today!!!!!!
And I was in his group for English.
yipee!!!!!!! He sat across from me! bye!
Good luck with Ryan… But I’m afraid that I’m underqualified to comment on anybody’s personal life.
It’s okay… sorry for cutting that comment short, my dad walked into the room… I like Ryan soooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!! He’s sooooooooo nice and cute and smart… I’m tired… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
Okay, I’m going to actually talk to him today!!!!!!! Well, at least I’ll try… Wish me luck guys/girls… Ryan’s in the play on Saturday and I really want to go see it!!!!!!!! He’s such a good actor. He’s even in a bunch of commercials!!!!! He was in a Gushers commercial once… He was a watermelon in the redesign your room thing for that Gushers commercial..Oh yeah! I got a 97.600% for the first marking period!!!!!!! yippee!!!!!!!!
we should have a math thread if everyone likes math or at least talking about it…
do you guys want answers yet?
by the way you can use combinations to solve the handshake problem. (n choose r sort of thing) I like combinations and permutations.
Here is another problem: There are 336 people at a math teacher’s confrence. They meet in groups of 6. How many different groups are possible? (Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Robertson, Ms. White, Mr. Yang and Ms. Rodriguez is the same as Mr. Robertson, Ms. Rodriguez, Mr. Smith, Ms. White, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Yang)
Hmm, sounds like a big number. Is the answer … *picks one at random* … 1,910,769,787,752?
this is really random but i had a mr. smith last year. i’m sooo glad i don’t have him anymore! he was soooooooo boring!!! sam (girl-samantha) and i just talked and passed notes all hour and still got an a. (well i did anyway. i don’t think sam did. but it’s not my fault, she was the one passing all the notes!!) we didn’t learn anything in science last year.
his nickname was turtle or roadkill (we make up nicknames for all the teachers) cuz he had this green sweater that made him look like a turtle (to put it semi-nicely he was not skinny) and it had a stripe across it like tire tracks.
actually i don’t think i learned anything at all last year. not in skool anyway. except in math. denton was cool. but l.a. and history i had teer (tater seller). she was bad. I.E, same as pautsch.
sry that has nothing to do with math at all. that just set off a random rant about the horrors of teachers last year. i’m sry. i’m procrastinating. from eeeevil history. featherstone gives waaaay too much hw.
E-A, there’s no way i’m gonna figure that q out right now. if i could do math problems when my brain was fried i would be doing my huge load of hw. unfortunately i am in desperate need of a vacation and can’t think.
I’m not certain but it might be 229292374530240. If not, it might be 1375754247181440. Or I just did it wrong. Please tell me.
Err.. I got 1.910769788 x 10^12 and then I realized that that was a huge number. so I was going to change the number of people at the conference to 36 (the answer would be 1947792 then)
Has anyone here read The Number Devil? It is a very good book about math. I recommend it to all here, be you math lovers or math haters.
You mean, like, approximately 1,910,769,787,752? (And what’s wrong with huge numbers, anyway?)
How about 336 teachers divided into groups of seven? Riddle me that, E~A.

Hello folks! I’m back!!!!!! Okay now onto ranting about Ryan. I have band with him today!!! yippee!!!!!! We are going to get our Band tests back so I can have an excuse to go over and talk to him! um.. is it just me or has this been getting more and more like a chatroom?
(sorry for short post; If you don’t want to post this, don’t post it).
I’ll post about debate. Is everyone ready for a crash course? Okay, in Lincoln-Douglas debate you have a resolution that you debate about all year. One side is for the resolution (the affirmative) and one side is against it (the negative). The affirmative speaks first and makes a case for the resolution. They have six minutes. Then the negative gets up and cross examines the affirmative (asks questions) for three minutes. Then the negative makes a case against the resolution. They have seven minutes, and it’s recommended that if you’re the negative you spend about four minutes making your case and the last three poking holes in your opponent’s case. Then the affirmative gets up and cross examines the negative for three minutes. Then the affirmative ad-libs a speech (called the first affirmative rebuttal) poking holes in the negative case and showing how the hole the negative poked in their case aren’t really there. Then negative gets up and ad-libs a six minute speech attacking the affirmative case and shoring up their’s. Then the affirmative gets up for four minutes and it’s over.
The affirmative side had the first and last word, but no more time than the negative. They get to have the first and last words, because they have a harder job. They have to prove the resolution is true, which is harder than proving it’s not.
Since this is Lincoln-Douglas value debate, each debater will pick a value and then write a case showing how affirming, or negating, whatever the case may be, will uphold their value. They have thing called a value justification where you show how great your value is.
This year we’re debating “the media’s right to protect confidential sources is more imortant than the public’s right to know.” Sometime I’ll post my case against that, and then I’ll explain it to you.
I said forget about who’s alter….. oh forget it… I’m going to see the play tonight at 7:00pm w/ my other bff Rachel who’s 15!!!! It’s going to be sooooooo fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going to see Ryan… I’m going to see Ryan… I’m going to see Ryan… I’m going to see Ryan… I’m going to see Ryan…. I’m going to see Ryan!!!!!!!!!! yippee!!!!! I wonder if he’ll notice me… luuuuuuuuuvvvvvv……… luuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvv sickness………….. *sigh*
note* Ebeth you are an evil person!!!!!!!!
Okay, here’s my L-D case, with special notes along the way to explain stuff.
( What is about to follow is known as a “hook”. It is to get people interested in what you’re about to say. Most of the time it’s an example of where the view you’re trying to promote was right.) Imagine for a moment that you are in a boat, going down a river. You come to a fork in the river. You know that one way leads to where you want to go, and the other way goes down a waterfall. Your friend in the boat tells you that a man on the road said that the way to the left will take you where you want to go, however, he refuses to tell you who told him that. You have no idea who the man who told him was, if he was credible, or if he had some reason to lie.
Resolved: The media’s right to protect confidential sources is not more important than the public’s right to know. (The actual resolution doesn’t have the “not” in their. I just put it in because I’m negative, and so therefore against the resolution. I modified it to reflect what I say in the case
For the sake of clarity, I offer the following definitions (Actually, I won’t offer these definitions most of the time. Since I’m negative and go second, the affirmative will have already offered definitions. I’ll only offer one of mine if I don’t agree with one they put forward.):
Media: newspapers, magazines, radio and television considered as a group. (Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary)
Right: Something that is due to a person or governmental body by law, tradition or nature (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language)
Protect: To keep from being damaged , attacked, stolen or injured. (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language)
Confidential: Done or communicated in confidence; secret. (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language)
Source: Someone or something that supplies information. (Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary)
Public: The community or the people as a whole. (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.)
Democracy: The common people, considered as the primary source of political power. (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language)
Value: Democracy
Value Justification (This is where I show briefly how the value I picked is worthwile.): Our society is built on democracy, and can not function as it does now without it. Without democracy, we would not have many of the other values we hold so dear.
Criterion (A criterion is the means to an end. It’s how I think we can get the value I offered.): Truth
Criterion Justification (This is where I show how my criterion will further my value.): Because of the nature of democracy, we must be informed, as you will see in my first contention. We need whole truth to have a democracy.
CONTENTION ONE (A contention is basically just a main point. It’s something that helps you organize your case and helps the judge and your opponent know where you are): An informed public is essential in a democracy. (That was my tag-line. A tag-line is just a short title for your contention that your opponent and judge can write down in their notes
It is impossible to have a form of government where the people rule thmeselves, a democracy, without a people capable of making decisions, for, in effect, the people are the government. Take for example the case of Stalinist Russia. The people did not know anything but what the government told them, so they therefore did not know of the attrocities Stalin had commited. Many people thought that Stalin represented their views, simply because they did not know what he stood for. The people couldn’t have a vice in a government they knew nothing about. (That was my “support”. It’s basically just an example, quote or analogy that proves my point. My opponent and judge will want to write it down.) Not only when choosing leaders and lawmakers, but all the time, the people of a democracy must have information, or the democracy ceases to function, for the people are the democracy, and they can not govern themselves without being informed.
CONTENTION TWO: Confidential sources hamper an informed public.
If we do not know who is giving us our information, how can we know if it is reliable? If we do not know if the information we have is valid, then we, in effect, know nothing. It is impossible to trust what we have been told of we can not go out and verify it for ourselves.
I know some people say that if we start revaling confidential sources then they won’t come forward and we will know less. However, I think it is more important to be sure
of the purity of the information we already have, before we start trying to get more. After all, as the saying goes, “quality is better than quantityâ€. How do we know anything if we can’t trust what is being told to us? Take what happened at CBS did September of 2004. the station ran a story maligning President Bush, then only eight weeks away from the 2004 election. The report used a confidential source, who it was later proved was not credible. If the documenst CBS used to verify their story had not been proved false, then voters would have been making in November based on flawed information, which could have lead to them picking someone who would not represent their views (That, was again, my support.) We should be able to hold news outlets to a high standard, which we can not do if we can’t investigate their sources for ourselves. We shouldn’t have to just take the journalists word for it, we should be able to investigate their claims for ourselves.
I hope I have effectively shown you why the media’s right to protect confidential sources is not more important than the public’s right to know. An informed public is essential in a democracy, and the public can not be informed if they aren’t sure who is givingthem their information.
Now let us examine my opponent’s case, and some of the claims he/she made in it….( My case is intentionally not as long as the time I have. For the rest of my time I will poke holes in the affirmative case )
Hope you liked it!!! If you didn’t understand parts of it, ask me about them. It’s pretty hard to understand Lincoln-Douglas value debate, which is my most people do team policy, but that’s a whole other subject.
I knew mousie was an alter ego. Nice dbate, MontgomoryGurl! I am so happy, when I went to the open house for my high school some seniors came up to me and said, “Tree, right?” and proceeded to tell me all the reasons why they needed me on mock trial and debate. And a REAL lawyer came up to me and said I should be one! how cool is THAT?
I didn’t really get it…. I mean I agree with your point, but you sort of lost me with all the side notes and italics. I just came home from the play. Ryan looked soooooo handsome up on that stage…..And during some parts, he LOOKED straight at me!!!! Right in the eyes!! And when they were thanking the drama teachers and all those peoples he was glancing at me!!!!!! a lot!!!!!!!!!!! I think he might like me. I really hope so. He’s such a good actor. Should I ask him out? I NEED advice!!!!!!!!!! please!!!
omg mousie if you like him ask the dude out already! the worst he can do is say no!
hey mg like the little italic stuff. that wasn’t on the writing thread.
yes mousie. I am totally evil
mwahahahaha…
ok not totally evil. I haven’t murdered anybody for a whole 3 days, i swear!!
lol!
Sorry you didn’t understand it, Mousie. I know it might have been kind of hard to understand. Anytime something is in parentheses, I meant for it to be an italicized side note. If the MAP would fix it for me, I would be eternally grateful *hinthint*
Bit of totally unqualified advice: I don’t think you should ask him out, but then again I don’t think high-schoolers should date. If you like him as much as you’re acting like, I think you should go ahead and get it over with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally, I would try to forget about him, but I understand how you wouldn’t want to do that. A word to the wise though. If he’s your age, he’s more than likely a total jerk. Almost all guys your age are total jerks. Maybe Ryan is the exception, but I would be prepared if I were you.
you people confoose me…. If I shouldn’t ask him out, then what should I do? I’m soooo heartsick…. *wails* I really like him… just the thing is, I can’t find him alone. ever. I really need advice!!!!!!!! I like him sooooo much. I’m telling you, he looked straight at me. help me!!! please!!!
listen, Mousie. I don’t know what your school customs are, but personally, I don’t date. Have you even TALKED to this guy? see if you share any interests first.
yes I have talked to him!!!!!!!!!!! last year…
fine, I’ll talk to him. you people are so discouraging!!! Here I was, thinking you guys would help me and now you are just…. YOU HATEFUL PEOPLE! I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Mousie. I’m sure you’ll do fine with him! ask him if he’s read your favorite book, stage a discussion, compliment him on his acting as a conversation starter. Talk about a shared class, arrange a study date. You can even ask your friends for help! sometimes it’s esier to talk to a crush if your friends are there, or so on of my lovesick friends proclaims, so when she was trying to snag her Zebra (as we called him in code, so he wouldn’t know) Me, Zyviva, and she all studied together in a place where he always goes, and he came up and we asked him to join. It was easier because we already had a boy studying with us. They got together, now they have lunch together and e-mail each other and whatnot. Ask your friends for help, and try my suggestions. I’m sure you’ll do fine! Just talk. Shared interests are useful!
sry for the outburst Phoenix. I was just in a bad mood. I’ll try your suggestions today and I’ll notify you if they work. sry again!!
