I can’t wait to find out what I am in the _____________ (Blank, for non-stalking reasons: it’s rather local)! It’s a ballet, and I love it muchly.

I did hip-hop at my summer camp, and I was horrible. And I was even worse, if that’s possible, at tap.

  6. Midnight Fiddler says:

I used to want to do Tap dancing, and took informal lessons from my cousin for a little while, but I never really learned much. I have a friend who’s a really good Irish dancer, and she tries so hard to teach me the steps, but I’m a hopeless mess. I do much better on the music end.
I think it would be fun to learn to move gracefully, but, knowing me that’s about impossible. Ah well.

I’ve always wanted to do Irish dancing.

Speaking of standing on your head, at camp, we watched So You Think You Can Dance (I don’t have TV at home), and the part in the introduction where they person jumps into a headstand always made me wince. I was seriously disturbed by it, and very curious as to how he did it… Ouch!

    4- I LOVE TO DANCE!!!!!!!!

YAY!!!! This year I am taking ballet and pointe (more than one of each), tap, jazz, modern, jumps & turns, and a grade 5 Cechetti ballet class from a different teacher 45 minutes away. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE DANCE!!

I also want to take Irish, but I dont have enough time because I do other stuff besides dance. Irish always looks like so much fun, its so perky and stuff, and i have always wondered how they get their little Cabriole thing to the front horizontal to the ground……..

POINTE ROCKS!!! But it is painful and hard on the calf muscles….but it rocks!!!!

    Lecture time *clears throat*
Dancing is much harder than everyone thinks, it is not a sissy/little girl/stupid easy sport, it is extremely difficult, and I would like to see everyone who doubts me in a two and a half hour pointe class with pointe shoes and all doing everything full out. Their is a famous football coach who said that of all the sports he has ever tried, ballet was the hardest, so ha ha ha to those people who make fun of it. If you still doubtme, TRY IT YOURSELF!!!!!!!
    End of lecture. Bye!

9: Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Dancergirl is SOOOO right! I’m not even on pointe yet (although I will be hopefully in a few weeks), but ballet is VERY hard and very painful. I think that people just think ballet is easy because the dancers make it look easy. It really isn’t. It IS if you don’t try and just do a sloppy job (and most likely hurt your body because of it), but if you really dance it is near impossible. I don’t know. That is just what I think. OK! I’m done with my lecture too! *everyone probably sighs in relief* :D

  15. Alice says:

I would like to learn to Riverdance, and also English country dancing. I’m very bad at dancing, but it can be very fun and exhilarating and wild. Ballet is not my favorite by any means, but I really couldn’t say why. I think that it isn’t fast enough, and my inflexible, uncoordinated body shrieks in protest. When I was doing ballet it was getting hard to walk because my legs would start to hurt because of an exercise we kept doing.

14- Sounds a lot like rolling a kayak. *is obsessed*

    Ballet is quite fast sometimes!

It turns out that I got the parts that I wanted, exactly, along with one that was a total surprise (in a good way)!!

What do people think of the brand of shoe called “Russian Pointe?” I received a pair (It’s a long story), and I’m rather curious as to their attributes.

  19. Alice says:

17,18- Yeah, I know ballet can be fast, but I find it really hard to think of it as such. I don’t know why I find ballet so unexciting. I think it’s because so many people are into it, and I like the obscure stuff that sits in a corner and gathers dust.

  20. Momo says:

19: That’s fine. Not everyone should like ballet! I think ballet can be, yes, slow, and also quite fast. I love the costumes for ballet, but I like the kind of music used in lyrical and modern dance. I don’t know why I just said that…

Ugh. Last night was trying. We were at a party and everyone was dancing and I wanted to dance so badly but the music didn’t move me at all, and when I *could* actually sense a beat I was far too embarrassed and self-conscious to actually dance.

  28. Dancergirl13 says:

I think our studio should have more guys, so that we could do a partner dance to a song from Hairspray, but no one comes!!!!!!!! *gets really mad* All the guys go the OTHER studio, because they already had a couple. What we need is a guy to start who doesnt care that he is with a bunch of girls, and who will attract more guys to come. *fumes*

I have decided that I like Russian ballet technique better than Cecchetti. Cecchetti class is pretty boring until we do petite allegros, and they do so much in demie that it is really boring. Russian seems more like, big and like…..BAM!!! LIke they do bigger movements, and have more complex bar work and excersises, so it doesnt get boring. And in Cecchetti we do the same thing every single week at the bar, and in the center, it is sooooooooooooooooooo annoying. I mean, I like it because it contributed so much to ballet, and I am taking the class because it will give me more experience and I will be familiar with it to when I pursue my professional dancer career, but I like the style at my main studio better.

    Squid 0
  29. Momo says:

28: Hmm, interesting. I’m doing Cecchetti this year and I’m really enjoying it. I know it’s kinda boring to repeat the same bar exercises and center floor routine thingys, but in a way it is cool because I can memorize it all and do it at home. By the way, what grade in ballet are you? I’m grade one. Which everyone who doesn’t know much about ballet is going to say “Isn’t that for six-year olds??” But, of course, it’s not. It’s actually a little challenging. But not as challenging as it could be.

I kind of know what you mean about Russian… I like Cecchetti a lot, but Russian seems very fun. Last year, I did the grade six Cecchetti exam (?), so now I’m off to majors. Oh, the joys of ballet examinations… *groans*

And we have almost no older guys. It makes me sad.

I really like pique (spelling?) turns. I used to not, but now I do. I just thought I’d share that with everybody.

    Pie 0

  33. Dancergirl13 says:

I am grade 5 Cecchetti. But I am not going to take the exams since I am not Cecchetti based, it is a lot more beneficial to take grade 5 instead of going back to grade one to start all over, and apparently the exams dont do alot to effect your proffessional dancer career, so saying I took grade 5 at age 13 still looks good. And really, the only thing that is relatively hard for me and my friend is all the Cecchetti arms and placing of the foot, its aggrivating to learn because we do it so differently, the teachers are always correcting us and although I know it is good for me to learn Cecchetti it is a bit annoying……..

I like piques too, but I dont like the way Cecchetti brings the foot to teh front of the knee, how weird is that? Sorry, Russian based-ness is showing now……………

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  34. purplefinch says:

In our studio, we usually just do the back of the knee, during regular classes and performances and such. I mean, front of the knee is supposed to increase turnout, and all that, but I always feel like I’m sickling (Sp?) my foot when I do it.

I have head trouble, in Cecchetti, but the Russian heads seem more natural for me. I don’t know.

    My feet hurt.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  35. Dancergirl13 says:

34-Thats why I dont like it, and it takes longer to get your foot to the front. I have head trouble in Cecchetti too!!! But i have trouble with pretty much all those details…… And tell me about it, a foot massage sounds pretty good right now doesnt it?

Do any other dancers here have trouble with planterfeshitis (SP?). Like, after you wear heels or something and you go on releve, or even just walk, your arches feel like they are going to like, rip or pull really hard or something???

  38. Momo says:

32: I know I’m behind. I started ballet at age five, but my dance studio didn’t really do much for me…? I’m not sure. Anyway, I switched studios when I was ten, so it’s almost like I’ve only been taking ballet for four years…instead of the literal nine.

I have head trouble too! My teacher is always saying to me “ears back!” But then when I put my ears back it looks as though I’m this proud person walking around. Ugh. It’s really annoying. I’m not sure if that is what you guys were talking about…

  41. Momo says:

40: Please do not ask me. I have a major problem with that. It’s one of those things that you just DO, can’t try and explain how. Like, how to wiggle your ears or something. It just happens. And that is why it is so discouraging!

  42. purplefinch says:

I tried to figure out how to put my ears forward/back during class today, but I was just confused. And then my teacher got mad at me because I was messing up my ronds de jambe timing. *sigh* I was on the end of the barre (I like doing that, when I don’t forget the excercise…), so I couldn’t look at anybody else. 48. Dancergirl13 says:

44-What is putting your ears back? I dont get it….

My dream has always been to be a professional.

47-When you stretch, turn off the air and turn on the heat where ever you are, just find a way to get really warm, and put your leg up on the bar in fourth. Take big deep breaths and relax into your stretch, it helps so much!!!! Imagine you are on a beatiful scenic island with some cute guy and just relax. As for working on strength, in our class we put our leg on the bar, and engage our muscles like we are trying to lift it off of the bar, hold it, then press your leg into the bar, and repeat it a couple times. Do this every day until you can get your leg off the bar, we worked on it during the summer, and now we can get our legs like, 3 inches off of the high bar!!!! You could also get those little one pound weights that velcro around you ankles, and do your developes with those on your ankles. All of this will help so much, I garuntee!!! Hope I helped!!!! :) Good luck!!!
