  2. 3-WHAT! Where do you live?

Sometimes “snail mail” seems like “microbe mail” out here! :(

  3. 7 ~ I wonder how many people really do subscribe. Does anyone know or know if it’s possible to find out?

  4. It came today!!! I was really surprised, because lately it has been taking a lot longer to come – this came only a few weeks after September’s!!

    ::dies of excitement::

  5. Some people have them? *SQUEE!*

I got my Cricket and my brother got his Spider, but I haven’t gotten my Muse.

    *runs around in circles screaming*

  6. 6-Really? If Muse stops publishing, I will throw myself off a cliff and go to the land of the hot pink bunnies.

    Not literally.

  7. (20) If the afterlife involves hot-pink bunnies, then I prefer oblivion. *shudders*

    (21) At this point, I’d say that MuseBlog has taken on a life of its own, independent of any other publication — even Muse.

For fun, I just did a little back-of-the-envelope calculation. Since it began in August 2005, MuseBlog has racked up more than 125,000 posts. Assuming an average of 40 words per post (which may not be quite right but seems plausible), that adds up to 5 million words. Wow!

Muse, meanwhile, has published about 100 issues. At 40 pages of text per issue and 500 words per page (again, rough estimates, which you could check), that adds up to 2 million words.

In other words, MuseBlog may already be more than twice as big (or at least twice as wordy) as Muse is. I’m not sure exactly what that means, but it’s interesting to think about.

  8. Some of the pages were ads, and some were full-page illustrations. I estimated that 40 pages contained words. If I was off by a couple of pages, that’s still only 5 percent — not enough to affect the “big picture” of the result.

  9. Was that why you guys did the big “meet the muses” page and stuff, to fill up ad space?

i got it yestiddy, ’twas spiffylicious!

  10. Alice – yes, Muse used to have ads. Smithsonian had Muse keep 8 pages extra for ads. For example, on the back page of the CAT issue, there was a “Sweet Tarts” advertisement.

  11. (26) In the early years, Muse ran ads for Nestle’s Quik and other things, including an anti-drug Spider-Man comic (basically, a long advertisement paid for by the federal government). In recent years, the magazine has regularly run ads for other Carus magazines, toys, T-shirts, back issues, etc.

    (28) No, the “Meet the Muses” pages are mostly to tell new readers what’s going on. The magazine can be fairly confusing if you pick it up for the first time. I think there ought to be a “Meet the Muses” page in every issue. (Muse ought to mention MuseBlog more often, too, but nobody asks me.)

  12. Mine is here, I don’t know when it got here, seeing as I’ve been at Rendezvous. I’m impressed, it used to come about a week into the month. Wow.
It looks good, but I haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet.

  18. Mine always comes a few weeks late. It’s really depressing, bcuz i have a friend that lives a little away and she always gets hers first. She’s always like, “Did you read that article about… o wait, YOU HAVEN’T GOTTEN IT YET.” And then I’m all like ‘i’m gonna pop off your head.’

  19. I finally got mine yesterday. i haven’t read it. I don’t know if i’m going to read it. I glanced through the pics on the muse mail page, which was all I really cared about. And now i’m angry at Muse. So i’m pouting and not reading it.

  20. 48-BECAUSE IT’S EVIL! I’m not sure if saying why would count as a spoiler or not. probably not, since it’s about what’s not in the magazine, not what is…I don’t even know what is, because i haven’t read it. And i’m angry.

  21. 50-I know. But I don’t want to go on there, because I haven’t read it. All I did was glance briefly through the muse mail section. And you should be angry too. You were in one of those pictures.

  22. Ah, so that’s it. Remember, the editors put “Muse Mail” together months in advance. Let’s see what they do in the November/December issue.

  23. 52-I sent it in in June, right before I went to CTY. The september issue of Muse contained a letter tht menitoned the Harry Potter article, which was in an issue that I got while I was at CTY, so it was clearly written later than my letter was. And it got in the SEPTEMBER issue. Why, then, would mine not be in until November/December? And why would an old blind rabbit have priority over a GAPA?!?!?

  24. 55-BECAUSE they DIDN’T publish my LETTER!!!!!!!! I sent in two pictures of me reading muse in DC. one was at the spelling bee, one was with Robert. Shouldn’t those together be enough to get me in????????????????????????????????????????????
