Hey! Er, well, everything. The blog functions more like a forum, and is based around the magazine Muse. The site is administrated by some of the Muse editors, although we don’t talk about Muse itself much.

There’s a thread for just about everything anyone’s interested and more are being added occasionally. Just pop into one, read the description, read about 10 or so of the last posts so you don’t interrupt an ongoing conversation, and comment. You can also play chess if you can find a partner, create an account, and have the GAPAs (Great And Powerful Administrators) create the game.

Also, not a big deal, especially since your knew, but we don’t do ch@speak here, we prefer proper grammar and spelling when possible, but it’s not a spelling quiz, so just do your best, no ones too nitpicky

What do we do here? What do you like to do? This place is the Room of Requirement, where everyone understands that reference.

We do a lot of stuff here, to be quite honest. My advice to you would be to search for stuff that you’re interested in. Or check out the random thread, where you can discuss pretty much anything.

I suppose I could post here to clear up who I am.

I am a user who you know, but I’d just rather not reveal my identity right now. Just for personal reasons. You can try and guess who I am, but I won’t tell you if you’re right. :) So that’s my official hello.

Anonymous is my tagline while I wait for an account to be processed. By the way, what’s a quafflebird? If this constitutes a Popular-Book-Non-Reading event, then I am very sorry.

    • You don’t need an account to post (unless you want to play chess), so we probably won’t give you one until you’ve been here for several months anyway.

      You’re welcome for the welcome!

A quafflebird…(hmm, difficult question) is a nonexistent word that randomly appeared in my mind. I’d say the obvious influence is from Quidditch (as in Quaffle) – if I were able to play Quidditch I think I’d like to be a Chaser. And birds…fly, just like broomsticks do?

There isn’t really a logical explanation. :D I just liked it as part of my ‘blog name.

  6. Gabi Kirk says:

Hi Musers!! I’m in my senior year at the University of California Santa Cruz and received Muse waaaaayyy back when it was still in its infancy. My first issue was October 1997 (gasp!) and I received it for ten whole years until I graduated from high school in June 2008. Sadly I didn’t continue my subscription into college, something I still regret to this day. Muse literally changed my life. I wrote an essay about it in my senior year of high school about how it was the most inspiring thing about my childhood. I even won the monthly contest when I was 10 years old for the January 2000 issue. We had to write a story based off a weird old science fiction magazine cover. I still have the certificate on my wall!!

I’m going to graduate this year with two degrees, in environmental studies and history…hmm, I wonder how I got interested in those topics? :) Anyway, I’m in a fascinating class called “Feminist Science Studies” now and I have to write a paper analyzing any science-related text, whether it’s a science fiction TV show, a children’s book (or magazine!), or a scientific article. I was trying to find something from an old issue of Muse, but sadly all my issues are at my parents’ house, not with me at school, and the silly college library doesn’t carry it! So I was looking for online copies and stumbled on this blog.

I just wanted to say hi and that I’m so happy that Muse is still changing lives and inspiring kids (especially young girls like I once was…well I’m still pretty young haha) to geek out on science and history in a fun and creative way. You guys are awesome and please please please never stop learning, both inside the classroom but also through things like Muse and by going outside and poking around, and breaking things apart to figure out how they work, and interviewing your parents or grandparents or neighbors to learn about history. The world is such an interesting and beautiful place. Thanks Muse for helping me learn that from a very young age. Good luck to all of you!!!

    • Hi, Gabi! Good to hear from you.

As you might know, MuseBlog has a strong Santa Cruz connection. Both Rosanne and I went to graduate school there (that’s where we met). Lovely place.

I’ll convey your message to Muse‘s editor, Elizabeth Preston.
