7 MUSEBLOG….. actualy i don’t. it adicts you after one post (like cocain [?])
6- Not exactly like cocaine. More like smoking, because the addiction can be broken. (I went cold turkey for a week, and could have gone longer if I knew it was doing me lasting damage.)
Sorry, Robert- it can’t be flattering to have your brainchild compared to addictive drugs.

I second the recommendation to read The Dark is Rising. Actually, start with Over Sea, Under Stone, which is the first book in the series. And the movie coming out next week (actually called The Seeker) is nothing like the book from what I’ve heard.

Nah, it just sounded like that. I often say things and then realize that they could be interpreted differently…. I usually end up turning an unattractive red and trying to explain what I really meant to say.
I also recommend climbing trees. All the time, it’s great fun.
I recommend a work ethic. Not having one has killed me, don’t be like lazy SM.

I also recommend getting up early enough that yolu have to do stuff like MuseBlog or read before school.
I recommend the type of potato peeler with a horizontal, self-levelling blade. It’s a very simple and cheap invention, but it works amazingly well. It’s revolutionised my peeling technique.

14: Is the Golden Compass really good? I’m debating reading it.

17- Dude, the first book (Over Sea, Under Stone) sucks. Read it last if you have to read it at all.
Listen to Elvenking, Masterplan, and Helloween. And any other power or folk metal band that you can get your hands on.
What do you meen abour Over Sea, Under Stone? I know it’s not the best book in the world but your way over doing it. I liked it. I like The Dark is Rising better. If you like thatsort of stuff I sugjust the Lord of the Rings books.

Watership Down is a classic. The mystery of Edwin Drood by Dickens. He died while writing it, so it’s a real mystery

46- I had a lovely conversation about my eccentricity (is that a word?) in Frosh Trans today. The girl next to me and the boy whom I was talking to were both laughing. I took it as a compliment.
Oh, in that vein, I recommend taking everything as a compliment, if it is at all possible. If you do that, then after a while anyone who would want to be rude to youwill just give up.
34. Oh yeah? Well i recommend Jones brand soda. It too comes in glass bottles.
I very highly do NOT recommend macs. I prefer to call them craptops (in the case of their miserable excuses for laptops) or white trash (since white is a pretty common color for them.)
46. I whole-heartedly agree. Normal people are boring.
I recomend everyone wear a “perfectly Harmless” button. Honest, people all the time ask me about it.
I recommend freaking out all the new people at guides (or any other organisation) by laughing manically and being generally weird.

I recommend Linux. Any distro. I prefer SuSE but it got shunned by everybody so there is no support. Now I use kubuntu. So go kubuntu.

I’m not sure whether Dr. Hopper coined that saying, but it certainly typified her philosophy of life.
I met her several times when she worked for my father at the Pentagon, and once chauffered her around when she gave a talk at my college. An unforgettable character.
Oh, recommendations: Uniball Vision and Vision Elite pens.
I recommend the brand-new XO laptops, designed for kids in third world countries. they’re a stroke of genius. and they run on a linux.
Learn French, or at least one other language. or play an instrument
Visit museums often.
44, 49, 52, 55-No. macs are better. PC’s are only better for gaming and filesharing. And yes, linux is amazingly flamablamablous. Windows is just a no.

WHOA. I speak a little french… i am teaching myself by watching Harry Potter/Star Wars/ POTC/LOTR in French w. English subtitles. It’s wicked fun. So, i reccomend watching movies in French w. da english subtitles. Isn’t Umbridge such a DIRP???

62: This has happened to me (disorientation after sleeping in school). I can’t say it deterred me too much from sleeping, but it’s an amusing little story in my opinion, so i will tell it.
I was in chemistry. Not really the type of class that it’s easy to sleep in and not miss anything. So i fell asleep and when i woke up the teacher was talking. I didn’t hear the beginning of her sentence; all i heard was “…whenever a child goes to the bathroom.” What? How did we get from states of matter to children’s bathroom habits? After she finishes saying this, the entire class exclaims “EWWWW!!!” of one accord. Clearly, i had missed some disgusting fact. Fine by me. However, immediately after this, she passes around a strange clear gel in a beaker, casually remarking to wash our hands if we touch it. Needless to say, i didn’t touch it. I still have no idea what it was or what the heck she was saying. So kids, get eight hours of sleep, drink your milk, and eat your broccoli, or you might end up with an unknown bathroom-related substance in your hands. To counter-act that randomness, i shall make a recommendation. Watch Wired Science if your PBS station shows it. It’s awesome. Except the hosts are eye-rollingly cheesy.
I recommend seeing The Importance of Being Earnest. I also recommend going on a road trip with seven other highschoolers and a bus driver in a minibus. It’s much fun.
(53) Names for a calf: Melpomene is nice. Be sure to pronounce it correctly, however. (It rhymes with “hominy.”)
(63) When I was Muser-age, we had a hamster named Arwen. Our cat was Saruman the White. I named them both, of course.
Put stickers on your journels/folders/biinders relating to the class you’re in. I’ve got xkcd ones on mine, my chem teacher actually was laughing at the “STAND BACK, I’m going to try science” one (even though he spends most of class braging about his kids and telling us we’re never be as smart as them).
Skip. Randomly. Through a hallway after school or across a parking lot or on the side of a road. It’s quite fun, and you can sort out what kind of people might be nice to get to know better based on who gives odd looks, ignores you, or laughs good-naturedly.

74- I’ve done both of those at separate unrelated times, and I can confirm both. Any somewhat big group of intelligent people in your grade who you are forced with for most of the day gets interesting and potentially fun.
76- Yes. I haven’t done things to my binders yet, I should. I’ve started writing random song lyrics on my science binder, though. And I still have last year’s Calvin and Hobbes with the concert band stuff.
Skipping’s also good in gym if they make you jog places. [I need to see Harry Potter 5 sometime, don’t I?]
I recommend watching Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator.

I recomend visiting Canada. We are an awesome country. Toronto has a lot happeneing all the time so you should go there.

I recommend giving crayons to people. Bring a large box to school and hand them out. You’ll be surprised at how positive a response this gets. People, it turns out, are, for the most part , still 6 years old at heart.
Also, choose one person you don’t know that well, but think seems cool. They need to have a really good sense of humor. Give them a pineapple. Completely out of the blue. Yes, I did do this. It worked out really well, actually. We’re pretty good friends now.
I recommend learning another language. Spanish is easy, because there are a lot of cognates.
There are even more if you learn French.
I recommend getting lost. I tried to walk home from school once ( I do not live in an are where it is possible to walk to anywhere from anywhere else). I cut across a golf course, a residential area and several dry riverbeds before hitting the major road that’s about a half mile south of my house. I was standing at the intersection and my biology teacher drove up and asked me if I wanted a ride. I took it. I don’t think she knew what to think. I got home several hours late, but still in time for my piano lesson. It was fun.
87- Until yesterday I was thinking that getting lost would be fun. And it probably would be. But not if it’s late, getting dark, you want to be somewhere by six, and you just hbad an extremely long day.
85- I like your advice. Especially the pineapple one. I know a lot of people who I’m not that close of friends with but would like to be closer to/know better. and hooray for crayons!
The pineapple thing might be cool, but the crayons would freak me out and in all honestly it’s exactly that sort of thing that makes me nervous around people. It scares me when people decide to like me for no reason.
I know a lot of people who could really use a pineapple.

94- My soul is deeply unhappy and feels like December. A very small part of it feels Christmas-y but most of it feels like laying by the space heater and moping. And my body is now going to go cook.

Jadestone would also recomend owning a pair of shoes that are not sandles that can be worn in the summer (it’s hot enough to be… high 80s

skipping and walking backwards are both good things to do. even more fun-marching backwards. it throws you off step for a sec when you turn around and when you face front again, but it enables you to talk to the people behind you (a good thing when you’re next to leah the obnoxious and behind sarah (not feds or hecht, diff sarah) the bossy) Also, it makes you feel special and lets you test your marching skillz

93-I started drawing manga based off the style of drawing of ‘Gin Tama’. I’m gonna start designing my character’s for whatever stuff they’ll do soon.

102- Well, not quite. Well, sort of. But it didn’t actually melt into the food. It sort of formed a slightly different shape.
I used to be scared of picking anything up with a plastic spatula. I had to always use a metal one.
Stay fit.
I recommend the new silicone spatulas. They look like plastic, but they’re impervious to heat. That’s right: they should melt, but they don’t. You can get them in specialized kitchen-supply stores and some supermarkets.
(105) You can also find them at Target and other such places. Check the labels, though. Some will withstand higher temps than others.

11 (PraCan) – I love the Ask The GAPAs thread! It’s one of my favorite threads. In D.C., we ate at this pizza-type restaurant, and afterwards we basically had a huge ask-the-gapa-thread with Robert.
30 (Paul) – We have one of those peelers. They really work well! Whenever we’re peeling potatoes THF and I have to take turns using it, because we both want to use it. Our other ones don’t really work very well.
38 (Queen) – I really liked those books. I actually liked the first one better, I think, but I’m not sure why. I haven’t read them in a long time.
41 (Kiki) 42 (Glassboro) – Yes! Macs!!
43 (Ebeth) – I love xkcd!
54 (Robert) – My dad uses those pens, and whenever he brings them home I “steal” them. But it’s always really (intentionally) obvious, so I don’t keep them.
61 (Swann) – I watch movies with subtitles, too. It really helps, actually, because I find myself reading the subtitles more than actually watching the movie.
75 (Robert) – When we had hermit crabs I named mine Smeagol. And whenever he pinched me, his name was switched to Gollum for the next thirty minutes.
105 (Robert) – We got a bunch of those a few years ago. They work really well! My grandma also has hot-pad type things that you can use in boiling water. It feels really weird, because you’re sticking your hands in boiling water but they don’t feel that hot. It’s also weird because the pressure of the water causes the rubber to squeeze in to your hand.

119- The Sci-Fi one was good, but it’s done. Etheterre’s being edited. The Last Grimoire’s a little violent. I recommend Sea Roc.
Speaking of which, I’ve noticed a trend in the RRRs. TLG: We decide to make magic only appear in ancient artifacts that hardly anybody knows how to work. One thread later: Enormous magical battle going on in the streets of Wandstadt. SR: We decide to make magic only available to storm-masters and alchemists, the latter mostly in order to make “alchemical powder” in place of gunpowder. One thread later: All sorts of magic popping out of the woodwork.
My conclusion: You can’t do a fantasy RRR with minimal magic. You either have to ban it completely or resign yourself to it being prevalent.
Of course, in Etheterre, it was popping out of the woodwork from the start, but there’s a delightfully illogical logic to it that can be refreshing.
Sorry. This post started out relevant and got way off topic. But maybe it’ll encourage people to go on the RRRs, so if the PoPoPo fine me it’ll be worth it.
120- I wouldn’t actually say that magic is “popping out of the woodwork” in The Sea Roc. Maybe. Well, yes. The thing is, we never really put a limit to it. We wanted it to be all-out fantasy, or else we wouldn’t have made stormmasters and alchemists able to use it.
By the way, I think you should come back to The Sea Roc. Maybe you aren’t doing RRRs anymore…?
121- Of course I am. The Sea Roc just got too confusing for me. I left, and by the time I got back, it was utterly weird.
122- Ah. You may be right, to some extent. It is utterly weird. I’m trying to figure out how to get it back on track, because there are definitely elements from the first thread that I want to bring back into play. But even so, it would probably still be too weird for you…Oh well. I might as well go discuss this on the pertinent thread.

154- I’m named after the Eagle because of my Indian name, Yexhwelayalus, it means Cliff Eagle. Because my great great grandfather who also had my name, killed a bald eagle on a cliff with his bare hands.

i totaly recomend reading Miss Manners guide to excruciatingly correct behavior. it’s hilariouse. it’s very Robert Coontz style humor. while i’m reading it i’m all “wow. it feels like Robert wrote this!”
Miss Manners and I are kindred spirits. I spotted her in a crowd at the Kennedy Center several years ago. She had just published a book called Miss Manners’ Guide to Raising Perfect Children and was with her 16-year-old daughter, who was, as far as I could tell, perfect.
