In response to the House-personality type thing on the last thread, I am Gryffindor (Bearville test/revised Pottermore)-INFP.
Perhaps staying up til 3:30 has gained me my first first post, maybe a second? I’m having an Omegle Sherlockian RP currently.
I should sleep.
To continue that discussion, INTZ fits me better than INTP or INTJ as well. I’m really not sure whether I’m Judging or Perceiving. I’d say the latter, but I’m not at all flexible, and I like to be sure about things…
GAPAs, are references to that particular chat site allowed on here?
I would say it’s okay, as it’s impossible to meet each other intentionally on there and due to the sheer mass of Sherlockians on there it’s not likely you’ll run into me. This is going by the rule of no blog-discussed ways of off-blog contact, of course. The website itself has a disclaimer.
I wasn’t worried about that; more about the other people you can find on there.
There’s a disclaimer on the front page, as I said.
Last full day in Washington, DC. The sadness increases by the minute.
It’s going to be a beautiful day, though — a perfect sendoff to our fair city.
Did you have time to visit NASA HQ?
I’m so sorry, no, I didn’t unfortunately; I barely had time to visit Robert we were so busy. Next time I’m around!
That’s fine. Just remember to tell the librarians your blogname.
No immediate plans to go to Washington DC again yet, but if when I do, I will!
Yesss update
I really need help. I got recommended for Algbra Topics, but my teacher andbparents say I could do APA. Also if I take APA i don’t have toake latin, whixh my parents forced me to take. Also the keyboard is really caking small so I apoligise for any typos.
Also, yess flash update
What’s APA?
What’s APA?
American Poultry Association (Excuse my poultry obsession.)
Advanced pre algebra
Is that harder than Algebra topics? Neither are offered in my area.
If I were you, I’d probably do APA, but I don’t know your level at math, whether your mother and teacher are reasonable in their expectations for you, or how important it is to you not to take Latin.
GRRR… I *know* have extra printer ink, but I can’t find it… and I *know* the instant I come back having bought more, I’ll find it.
This is the reason I have not used dryer sheets in the dryer for a year. My mom won’t buy them. Buy some more ink, and then when you find the old stuff, you’ll have a stock for the future.
Assuming you can find it then. *been there*
Well, I just spent 88 dollars on new ink, and I know the minute I find the old ink, I’m going to hate myself for spending that much.
Hee hee. So today is being really really awesome. I finished all my cleaning stuff in the morning, and I had pita bread and hummus and tomatoes for breakfast, which never fails to make me happy. Now I’m going to make some insanely complicated lunch (I’m thinking of a variation of huevos rancheros, but of course I’m going to make the tortillas from scratch and cook them along with the eggs and make it a sort of layered thing with cheese and avocado and beans, instead of the usual scrambled-eggs-with-salsa deal).
Then I am going to spend a few hours working on my bike, which needs maintenance, and attaching some sort of basket to the front. And Allosaur is flying up from SoCal tonight and I’m on vacation and I get a whole week with her.
This post is not about much, but I’m very happy right now.
Sounds cool. Pita bread = mmmmmmmmmmm
I am getting a ukulele!!! So excited.
Why do you want a skeleton?
* rereads*
Oh. Lucky!
Ukulele = skeleton? I’m confused…
It seems that she misread the word.
“Ukelele small and fierceful, ukelele brave and peaceful!
You can play the ukelele too, it is painfully simple.
Play your ukelele badly, play your ukelele loudly!
Ukelele, banish evil! Ukelele, save the people!”
From “Ukelele Anthem”, credit to Amanda Palmer.
My name is Raynpho and I have not visited MuseBlog in so long that it was erased from my internet history and it took an embarrassingly long time for me to re-realize that “museblog.com” would lead me straight here. Humiliating, I tell you.
I’ve been summoned back, though, by several people on an outside website, which I can’t remember if I’m allowed to mention or not, so I’ll leave it at that, because you know who you are
So… I’m pretty sure I’ve done this a couple times before, but it doesn’t get any less awkward… should I reintroduce myself? Should I just start randomly recommenting on posts? Should I get down on my knees and beg that you please don’t read my old posts circa 2007-2010 in the dear name of kokopelli please no
Maybe I will segue into talking about museums because, SPEAKING OF MUSEUMS, I’ve been excited about Cecil Beaton’s exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York, which was supposed to run until February 20th (</3) but has been extended to April 20th, and now I have all of February break to go visit it, as opposed to two days, much apology for the runon sentence!
P.S. What exactly is the connotation of these little squids on the bottom of posts now? I can't seem to find an explanation anywhere, I assumed at first that they'd be the negative counterpart to pies, but looking around, that doesn't quite seem to be the case…?
You’ve heeded my request. I am gladdened.
Welcome back! Most returning oldtimers just start commenting on whatever interests them–you’re not remotely the only person to have an absence of this length. The squids’ meaning can be a bit slippery and dependent on context, but they’re most often used to denote sympathy. They can also be a way to say, “Oh! You mentioned squids!” or, “Oh! You’re Piggy!” (I get squidded for no apparent reason, unlike anyone else here. Conspiracy theories abound.)
I get a lot of random squids a lot but it is mostly for my notoriety as a Giant Space Squid I believe
Raynpho! I remember you! (I was once Kokopelli52, although I don’t know whether that was in your era.) Anyway, it is great to see you again, and that exhibit sounds really cool.
The squids are generally sympathetic, unless you’re Piggy.
YOU
YOU WERE KOKOPELLI52
how did not know this
World shattered
What is this I don’t even
Pomegranate
THIS IS INSANITY
Welcome back! I reccall FantasyFan and starr returning, and there’ve been more.
Hello! I’m Bibliophile/Maiara/Xenomorphida. I arrived while you were gone. My avatar is a tardigrade; I don’t know if you picked up what they were on the other site? If not, I can explain. Welcome! It’s good to see you.
You were Xenomorphida?!
… I missed that.
Not on MuseBlog, on the only site Raynpho knows me from.
If that is what you’re talking about, then… well, yes. Who else would have made their national animal the sacred tardigrade, then gun down anti-environmentalist protesters without mercy, and make tardigrade worship ens national religion, then start an inquisition, and have a tardigrade on ens flag?
Hello and welcome back! I recall you somewhat. I have been, in my stretch on the blog, eragon, aragorn (for a little while) and Castle. I also change to Snow Castle when there is snow and will probably change to Sand Castle when it sands (wut?).
Good to see you back.
Oh hi thar! I’m Little BasementKitten, and fairly new to the blog (new being a relative term). You can call me LBK or Lil’BK, whichever works. And if you see any posts my someone called No Name, Please, that’s also me. I was going through rough times then…ANYWAYS hi.
Hi! I’m ZNZ; I came while you were gone. It’s excellent to meet you, so… welcome back!
Raynpho! Welcome back! I think you’d probably remember me, but if not, hey, I’m Tess, been here since 2008, etc, etc. Nice to see you again!
Museums! Museums are exciting. What’s th nature of the Cecil Beaton exhibit?
It is an exhibit (it took me 4 tries to spell that correctly, boo hoo) showcasing his work from the (it took me two tries to spell “the” correctly) 1920s to the 1960s I believe… photography, drawings, and costume design, I believe. I need to go see it and confirm it with mine own two eyes, though, wahh
~*~ Cecil Beaton + Raynpho = 4eva <3 ~*~
Raynpho! It’s great to see you again! I don’t quite know if you would remember me but I used to be Crazy Titan Nerd (CTN). Please stick around.
By the way, I love your avatar thingie.
Hi! I’m Agent Lightning- you don’t remember me. I came on about a year ago. Have some pies!
Wow guys, I didn’t expect this many responses! Thanks for the welcome-backs, most of your names are familiar, whether you claim to have discovered MB in my absence or not, so… that’s interesting. Keep in mind that I’ve done quite a lot more lurking than posting in my time here, so even if you didn’t know I was here… *shifty eyes*
Hi Raynpho! I’m Cat’s Meow, as evidenced by my name, and I remember you from your old posts. We’re glad to have you back!
Hi, Raynpho, I’m Kai and I’ve always been Kai, so there’s no name change to get caught up on! I think I may have run across you in some random threads or RPGs.
Hey, welcome back. I…think I remember you, but I’m not totally certain. Not well, at any rate. But there’s time enough to get to know one another now.
Hi! Welcome back!
Welcome back
Yeah, it has been a while. Good to see you again.
Hello! I’m Mikazuki; you don’t know me, but I think I’ve come across your name on older threads. Welcome back!
Welcome back! I took an *coughs* extended break *coughs* from MB similar to yours, so I don’t know if you know me or not.
Hi!
Hello Raynpho, welcome back to the ‘Blog!!
LES MIS TOMORROW
*makes squidlike arm motions*
… Impromptu Kokon possibility.
YESS.
I will wear a HPB button. (GAPAs, you can zap this if you like. But my picture is already on the blog, so perhaps not?)
I’ll look for you!
SFTDP: I’m not sure if the GAPAs will zap this, but I’ll wear a hat. [Okay, AL, you’re making us nervous. We’ve stretched the rules because you’re both long-time MBers in good standing, but this is as far as we can let you go. –Admin.]
Okay. I won’t go any farther. Sorry.
Based on your post time, you were probably at an evening show (thought there was only a matinee today, oops). In any event, I did not see you. We seriously need a properly-organized Kokon though!
GAPAs, I understand. Thanks for all you do keeping MuseBlog secure!
…Envy.
Tell us everything, yeah?
*envy* I’m not going to get to see it until April.
I AM EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
(and also very jealous, you must recount EVERY second to us!)
GUYS GUYS GUYS
There’s a kind of cereal called Puffin Puffs!
My mom made me get the fruit flavor instead of the cocoa, though.
I’ve been eating those for years without noticing the name. Then yesterday I was snacking on some and it clicked.
They’re not bad! I like the frosted ones.
*shudders*
It gets better. Inside the box there’s apparently a puffin mobile that you can cut out!
Are they the Barbara’s Bakery ones?
No wait.
I think those are just “Puffins.”
But they’re still puffy.
Barbara makes both Puffin Puffs and regular Puffins. I think Puffins were the original cereal and the puffs an offshoot. It would be interesting to find out when the company introduced Puffin Puffs and whether they antedate the Muse Academy version (which are a completely different recipe, apart from being translated from Icelandic).
Yes, I don’t think the cereal contains actual puffins.
Puffins aren’t on the ingredient list, at any rate.
Indeed. They claim to be vegan, if I remember correctly. Or at least vegetarian.
What a ripoff.
*sigh*
Ahhhh… It’s great to have a day off with no obligations.
Each of the past three days really deserves its own post, but we’ll go with a list instead!
-I auditioned for my school’s spring play, which is Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing! I got the part of Dogberry. My best friend, who is female, got the male lead (Benedick) because our theater department is seriously lacking in males. Dogberry is not exactly the part I was going for – actually, he might have been my last choice – but now that I’ve got it, I’m going to be the best darn Dogberry I can be. This is my first high school play, so really I’m just grateful to have any part at all.
-Something happened that should have been the solution to a relationships problem but just feels like it changed things and became a problem itself. I’m still confused.
-My family drove to Portland. I have two soccer games here this weekend. These long drives used to feel so boring and long, but now they’re so routine that I hardly even feel like I’ve been in the car for very long.
-We got a private tour of the Portland Timbers soccer stadium! My parents had a meeting with the #2 guy on the business side of the club. He gave my brother and I scarves and little soccer balls, which is awesome even though we’re Sounders fans. That field has the softest, most beautiful turf I’ve ever felt. We also got to see all of the guts of the stadium, including the locker room with all of the players’ stuff inside because they’re arriving on Monday. It was awesome.
-There is a PIE RESTAURANT in downtown Portland. My family tried both savory and sweet varieties.
-Today, I Kokoned with Alice! I got a fantastic tour of Lewis & Clark College, met her friend, and learned all about this game called Ninja. Her dorm has doors made of chalkboard, which is brilliant. We went out to lunch in Portland and then left Alice and her friend to take the bus back to campus, so hopefully they made it okay!
-My soccer team, in our blindingly yellow uniforms, had a game. I scored the first goal and we won 2-1, but it really should have been much wider a differential than that. If we win tomorrow (which won’t be as easy), we’ll play yet another game on Monday.
-The team went out to dinner at a buffet.
-My family is watching The Princess Bride on TV!
Okay, that’s it. You guys are all caught up now!
I played Leonato in Much Ado; Dogberry is a much better part than that — and one of the most memorable for the audience. In fact, I still vividly recall the first Dogberry I ever saw.
As Rebecca said, Dogberry is actually a great part. As long as you’re not allergic to comic roles, it should give you a chance to have an awful lot of fun.
Thank you Rebecca and Armada for your reassurances. ♥ I’m seeing Dogberry in a new light now, and I’ll be happy to play him.
Can I ask why some words are highlighted as links in the recent comments bar?
The only links I see are the name and thread title, which have always been linked so that you can get to the comment easily. Is more than that linked for you?
That’s all that shows up on my browser as well.
There were a bunch of random things green/links other than those. Like the word “work” and when you hovered over it it’d do the thing some articles do where it shows you related searches or sites or whatever. I don’t see any anymore though. The posts themselves didn’t have any links.
Maybe wordpress was just buggy for a bit. Silly gnomes.
That’s really weird. What browser were you using?
Safari, which I always use (runs faster than chrome for me). They hadn’t ever been there before ever. I haven’t updated in a while but maybe it’s doing weird things now.
I’m on Safari too and that isn’t happening for me.
If I use the wrong browser on a certain computer, every site does that, even my school’s website. I don’t think it’s WordPress or MuseBlog.
My computer is down with a virus and thus I am using my grandfather’s hand-me-down slow computer.
I will probably not be around much.
We adopted an adorable little dog! He’s a 1 1/2 years old Australian Sheepdog named Jamie and completely adorable, if still very shy (his previous owner neglected and abused him, then he was rescued but taken in by a woman who was already sheltering lots of other dogs, who picked on him for being the smallest, youngest and somewhat chubby so he’s quite literally afraid of just about everything and never really had a chance to bond with people). So basically we’re just petting him and trying to set up a nice routine that he can ease into. He spent hours checking that there were no other dogs in or coming to the apartment before he dared eat the food from the bowl we put out for him- but then took turns lying in the middle of every single carpet virtually grinning that no-one came to chase him away. It breaks your heart to see the way he’s so afraid but still so hopeful, following us around the apartment but at a short distance ready to run away if he needs to, always sticking his head out to sniff us when he thinks we’re not looking, the contented look when we pet him. He still doesn’t come when he’s called, even running away when we says it too loudly, but in the beginning he didn’t even register that we were talking to him so I guess that’s progress. Of course I have to stop by at my mom’s after school now to walk him so that he gets to know me, but it’s worth it.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m crazy- school (as in the 33+ hours of pure class time, plus the weekly 2-3 projects, tests, etc, homework and Matura prep), friends (two groups plus a third I’m sort of at the outskirts of that I’d like to spend more time with), various internet/tv related obsessions (MB, a few other sites, fanfiction (I’m planning to write some as well) and my current tv show addiction, the Mentalist), exercise to keep me sane and to get myself back into shape and to go running with Jamie to help him lose some of that extra weight (running, capoeira, rock climbing and whatever PE throws at me), but mostly living with two families in two different cultures with two different sets of values and future plans. It’s a juggling act and I could use a few more hours per day just to get everything done. But then again, this is the last of these happy golden years. I graduate in June and then I’m moving out. Couch surfing with relatives and FoF (*Friends of Family) until I get a job, a drivers license and find a way to rent a car, re-take (and take) SATs and Subject Tests, then some volunteer work somewhere where they give you room and meals and then college apps. That’s the part I’m worried about, but my shrink tells me to think of it as an adventure. I guess I’m sort of biased because my childhood memories of said relatives are mainly by them throwing us out when we came to stay around Easter, but we shall see. I was going to get a part-time job now, but I don’t really have any time left… Eh bien, on va voir comment le future se déroule. But I’m feeling positive right now, because this week I have a geography presentation with an amazing Power-Point presentation that M’s dad made, a maths test (the positive feedback is always so nice and this time I’ll be more careful copying my results so that I don’t lose a stupid half-point again) and a chemistry worksheet test that I expect to get 100% on because it’s organic chemistry, duh. So, that’s what’s up in bookgirl-land. Wie geht’s euch so?
Jamie sounds adorable! I hope everything goes well and he eventually learns to trust you.
Well, I have doggy treats in abundance. Even if I do not become the best friend, I’ll receive some form of recognition as mobile food dispenser.
For dogs, the two are basically the same.
That isn’t true.
Don’t make us pull out any s.
But… I wasn’t saying dogs were better than cats. All I meant was that dogs can develop affection towards people who don’t give them food. I didn’t even claim they weren’t always entirely selfish, although I think that’s true. It’s just that I have seen dogs clearly show affection to and even concern for people who don’t feed them.
WOO SEEING THE ARTIST TONIGHT WOO
Sigh… I was randomly scrolling the app store because I have some extra iTunes gift cards money, and I saw a POKEMON YELLOW APP!. And it was 7th in the app store too. Then after reading the reviews I learned it was an obvious scam. I suppose I should have known, seeing as it’s not by Nintendo, but still, I was so excited…
Today was… eventful. First, an entire tree filled with cedar waxwings. Then, they started flying around everywhere. It was quite… chaotic. And… one hit the window.
En* was alright, but it was scary. Our windows have screens and everything; things like that aren’t supposed to happen.
Later, I found a large moth sitting in one place for a long time–hours. I wonder if en is laying eggs or something.
I found so many dead flies by a wall that I was…. very distraught. Then, I saw a spider with a fly in ens mouth, and I was delighted to get to watch a spider eat, but it put the spider down and went away! I really can’t say how happy that made me, because at least now I know it wasn’t just wanton death. There was no web or anything; apparently, this spider creates a sticky substance or something.
*It’s embarrassing, but I haven’t looked into how to tell with them; I think en was male, though.
I just watched this documentary called “Killing Us Softly” on Youtube. It was all about the image of women in advertisements–ie hypersexualized, photoshopped into unrealistic shapes–and the negative effects it has on society. It was really good, and I kind of want to talk about it with someone. So I’m telling all of you. It’s forty minutes long, and in two parts.
I’ve seen that. We watched it on our Sophomore Girl’s retreat two years ago. What would you like to talk about about it?
Well, I’m not quite sure now, but I watched some of the Superbowl ads after this and was really quite appalled by some of them. One that stands out in particular was this one car ad about this guy who was dreaming, and his significant other was dreaming, too. She was riding off into the sunset on a horse accompanied by Prince Charming, with soft, romantic music in a pastel setting. He was riding in a car–the one the ad was trying to sell–with loud music pounding away in a dark stadium filled with scantily clad women, then he rammed his car through he walls and into her dream, kicked Prince Charming out, and rode away with the lady. And basically the themes of this ad–masculine dominance and power compared to feminine sweet-sugar-happy-nice stuff–were so blatant that-. Well, I don’t think it says anything good about our society as a whole.
It’s interesting, revisiting websites/things I used to frequent back in 7th grade (shudder). I’ve definitely changed a lot since then, as have my interests, (or so I’d like to think) and thusly a lot of my perceptions of things have evolved. This is definitely true for a lot of books, movies, websites… rediscovering that link I bookmarked even a year ago is super weird, especially knowing I’d never bookmark it if I’d run across it now. When I can remember to, I check out issues of Muse from the library (woefully always a month late, curse you public library system), and even that seems a bit different from how I remember it, I dunno. But Museblog is definitely the same as I remember it, not more or less sophisticated or anything. The only difference is probably that I now actually have opinions on things I’d actually maybe like to contribute. And the squids I guess.
The pies weren’t here when you were, either, unless you were still lurking at that time. I was here when they appeared, and I’d remember you.
Haha, I actually was here for the appearance of the pies, though probably very infrequently as a poster. I can’t recall, it might have been one of the two or three times I re-visited and tried to get back into the groove of ~musebloggin’~
Alright I’ve just taken a shower and shower time = thinking time so here is some more semi cohesive rant, yes.
So, as I was thinking, I thought that maybe rather than my perception of museblog changing, my perception of myself on museblog is what’s changed… Back in ’07, what I was on museblog was less of me, participating in and exchanging ideas with a cool community of cool, interesting people and more of me, trying to be in on a cool community of cool, interesting people, and trying to find out the secrets behind the fascinating things they did and said and also definitely trying to be them! YES THAT MEANS YOU!
So, in conclusion, I dunno. This is just what I figured while I was shampooing my hair, there’s no need to actually find meaning in the above words. Hopefully I’m less of a dork now. I don’t even know if I was quite as awkward as I’m making myself out to be, seeing as I’ve been avoiding my old comments like the plague.
Reminders of middle school = The black death
I am not ready for tomorrow to be Monday.
That is all.
SAME
ARGLEBLARG
I take your ARGLEBLARG and raise you one WXFLEGALKJFDJASF.
Call.
My friend and I decided that tomorrow will be another icepocalypse and school will be closed. And we will have a wonderful day of winter wonderland snowplayiceday fun.
We had Monday off!
So did we.
Free day + membership card + cab fare = trip to the New England Aquarium! Woo! I had a blast.
Spent the day making a treasure hunt with a friend and then accompanying as other friends attempted to solve it (they needed a few hints). Then, show tunes and old photo albums with aforementioned friend. It felt bizarrely nostalgic as I went through an intense treasure hunt phase when I was a small, but I didn’t know any of these friends back then. Also, looking through her old photo albums featuring many of my newer friends/acquaintances in childhood was strange, sort of like a window into an alternate version of my childhood where I went to a different school and made different friends. A good day.

Okay, so did anyone else watch an animated movie called “Our Friend, Martin” in elementary school? It was about Martin Luther King and two kids who time travel to different points in his life and try to stop him from dying but that just makes it so he never did anything at all.
I watched it four times in elementary school and I’ve never seen it again, and I’m starting to think I imagined it.
I remember that movie! It made me really depressed. I remember this one scene where they go back to the present day and a friend who was Hispanic was being forced to do cleaning work at the school and didn’t speak English anymore. I was shaken.
Oh yes, I remember that. I also remember our teachers showing us this show called “Candle Cove”; does anyone remember seeing that? It was a great old kids show.
All joking aside, I don’t remember ever watching that, but IMDb has an entry for it, so I’m assuming it’s real.
Oh yes, we saw that in Intermediate School, and the library had it on VHS.
I watched it once in elementary school, and… I have to admit that it didn’t move me much.
I remember that. I think. Was there an old house involved? And a key?
They traveled back in time by visiting Dr. King’s old house, yes. I think they used a watch to reach the past and not a key, but I could be wrong.
Guys the world is ending or something because I am about to go to bed. It is 1:22. I have not even been up for 12 hours.
I am just so tired. I had hockey today for like 2 hours and I think maybe I am getting my roommate’s cold D:
hurrrrrrrrg. what is happening. not ready for classes, did not even do my readings x_x
Evening, friends. It is now 3:43 am. I am sitting here, getting hungry, waiting for TrueCrypt to format my thumb drive and being really sleepy but unable to want to sleep.
I’m in Hong Kong again, which is very sad. I really do miss DC, and NAIMUN, a lot. Wonderful, wonderful place.
However, I just realised that I am going on Interim (school trip) to Jordan next weekend, which is much sooner than I had previously thought! I seem to be travelling non-stop, don’t I?
I am listening to pony songs at 5:50 in the morning with my unicorn pillow pet.
I can’t decide if I have the best life or no life at all.
Also, today we’re going to see The Secret Life of Arrietty this afternoon, *squee*.
SFTDP
Aaaaaaaaaand, I just realized how redundant that last sentence sounds. *facepalm* That’s what you get for writing on 6 hours of sleep.
Aw, fudgecakes. Sorry. Still me.
What’s that? Is it based on The Borrowers? I loved those books!
I think so. I loved them, too.
Does Arietty rhyme with “Betty” or with “variety”? I’ve always wondered. Now I guess the movie will tell me.
Not that movies are infallible: witness “Bifrost” and “Isengard.”
Not to mention Voldemort!
I always pronounced it “Ah-rye-eh-tee”.
I’ve always said it to rhyme with “Betty.” Not that I’m infallible either; when I first read Harry Potter I used to say Neville to rhyme with “Seville.”
I rhymed it with Betty, too (ar ee ET ee)–but then again, I’ve never heard ‘Seville,” and in any other context, I’d rhyme it with ‘Neville.’ How is it pronounced?
“Seville” is accented on the second syllable and rhymes with “until.”
This is getting a wee bit convoluted…
This has made me realize that when I hear the name “Neville”, I think first of Neville Chamberlain, not Neville Longbottom, despite having read and watched every Harry Potter book and movie numerous times. I think I must be a history geek through and through.
I’d say that’s incontrovertible.
When I hear the name “Ron”, I wonder if the person means Ron Weasley, Ron Garan, Ron Stoppable, or Ron McNair.
I’ve always said Arietty “air-EYE-et-tea”.
And suddenly
ALL THE TESTS
This day has gone by with almost no new non-nested Random Thread posts during the day.
I kept checking, but nothing new showed up.
AIRPORTS
I ended up in a small beach town in Romania.
Zinc recently took requests from those who wanted to see her interpretive drawings of them. This batch is now complete and can be seen in the MBer art Photobucket Album.
Zinc, these are great. And mine actually looks like me! Thanks!
Yeah, yours does look like you!
… whoa, seriously? I’ve never actually seen you. Sweeeeet.
Thank you for the request!
I really, really don’t want to seem pushy, but–is there any way the August Kokon photos from Meow and me could go up? Please?
And by August I mean summer. I can’t actually remember the month anymore.
Here you go, Tess. Thanks for your patience!
Thank you, Robert!
Ooh, I want one!
[/obnoxious]
Those are very cool.
I’ll hop to it! If anyone else wants one, I’m always overjoyed to give back to you guys.
The one’s you’ve drawn are all fab, Zinc! May I go on the list if you do another batch?
Er, GAPAs? I made a reply to this post this morning. Did I, through typos or naivety, cause it to be caught by the Spam Filter?
That’s exactly what happened. Beats me how it wound up there.
Thank you!
Would you do one for me?
Zinc, they all look absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much.
afkjhaklfal thank YOU!
Thanks, Zinc! These are really cool. Those glasses actually look like mine, when I wear them, which is right now since I’m out of contacts.
You’re so welcome!
Whoa, sweet… you just have glasses. That’s how it is.
(all zoomed in I’m amazed at the hair on your’s I mean omg that’s whoa)
Thanks so much, Zinc! I love mine.
Where’d you get the quote? It’s hilarious. I fell on the floor laughing, legitimately.
Thank you!!
uh the quote was just a combination of massive amounts of geekery
So in Shakespeare’s Midummer’s Night’s Dream, Hermia, one of the two female leads, is short. And while she and Helena are having a catfight the two male leads are all “she may be but small, but she is fierce.” And then Helena starts calling her short and Ethiopian was a word for short people in those days.
And the second art with the shoes was a reference to Sherlock because I’m a Holmie.
Is it weird that Hermia actually came to mind when I read that?
Ooh! Thank you! Those are excellent. I love mine.
Yay! Your’s was the first done, and I still maintain it’s one of the better-looking ones.
These look great. How does one send their description in to Zinc, again?
OH CAKE NEVER MIND I’M IN THERE
AND IT LOOKS LIKE ME
HOW DO YOU DO THIS ZINC
INTUITION, LOVE, AND THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP
THAT’S HOW
OH AND ALSO LOTS AND LOTS OF PRACTICE AND SCRIBBLED ON SCHOOL PAPERS
No, but I mean it looks uncannily like me. Right down to the hair that hasn’t been cut for a while and the facial structure and the sweater.
We have a MIND CONNECTION then.
I always suspected…
Museblog side-effect.
Zinc? Would you draw me if you’ve got some extra time on your hands?
Will do!
Thank you all so much for your praise and requests!! I feel my art has really advanced from the last time you guys saw it. If you look at the first time it’s barely recognizable!
This was a really great thing for me work on since it helped me realize what I need to improve on. The symmetry of the eyes is always off, and the heads are inclined to face left in slight 3/4 view, and the symmetry when I’m doing the basic faceshape is nonexistant. This was also a great practice for varying facial structures, although if you asked me to redraw them I doubt I could do it XD
LBK: That is a bunnicorn with ear piercings and a snake mane. i dont even know okay
And if anyone ever wants anything drawn, please hit me up! I always love requests and will put my best effort into them!!
If you’d like another male to draw, I wouldn’t object.
Nor would I
Very sorry if you’ve mentioned this before, but I can’t remember – are you identical or fraternal twins?
Fraternal, but no one can tell us apart anyway, except for the fact I wear glasses.
Nor I. (Even though I don’t really count as a male. :|)
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-*is slapped*
Oh my gosh, you are an amazing person. DAT LETTERING. *dies of over-exposure to awesomeness*
Woah, these are incredible, Zinc! May I please have one with the next batch?
These are great, Zinc! If you’re doing another batch of them, would you mind doing one for me?
M-m-me too please?
Wow Zinc! They’re amazing!
Awesomeness! Thank you so much!
Home alone and doing my classic-movie research; I just spent the last two hours watching The Apartment and figuratively sobbing my eyes out. It’s not even a sad movie really — I’m just in a weird emotional state. But it has occurred to me that becoming an obsessive fan of interested in only actors who have been dead for multiple (or, whatever, more than one) decades is not really the most uplifting hobby, when one stops and thinks about it.
Not that I’m going to stop. I think actors were better back then. Movies certainly were.
(Oh, and I went and saw Hugo in 3D last night. I loved it — the setting was great, and thought that the adaptation certainly didn’t take away any of the charm of the book. Also, it was the first non-IMAX 3D movie I’ve ever seen (I know, I’m a bit behind the times), and I thought that the 3D served the visuals really well. So all right, not all modern movies suck. Even if Hugo did have a bit of an unfortunate tendency of acting with his nostrils.)
Now watch The Artist and get back to us on the classic vs. modern debate.
I watched it last week, actually. I thought it was great — so many -in-references! The camerawork was period! It made me very happy to see someone putting that necessary level of detail into a silent film about silent films, because I’m a big fan of real silents and believe me, I noticed what they did. I think it’s both amusing and awesome that the 20’s are coming back into style — it’s not just in films, either, it’s the fashions and everything. Retro is just moving farther and farther back, it seems.
Agreed. I won’t be complaining when it wins everything on Sunday.
I always find the classic vs. modern debate both interesting and frustrating, often they become very defensive and one-sided.
I’m usually on the side of classic, but it’s really just the way I’ve been brought up as opposed to me being personally opposed to Justin Beiber… and those blanket statements like, “why is ALLLL the music terrible nowadays!! ROLLING STONES 4EVA” really bother me.
Then again, maybe I should just stop reading youtube comments and my problems would be solved.
Youtube comments generally make my faith in humanity diminish.
Indeed. But we keep on reading them anyway for some reason, don’t we? *sigh*
Raynpho: Oh, I definitely agree that not all modern stuff sucks; just the vast majority of the popular stuff. You have to start looking outside of the mainstream for film, music, etc. which is still artistic. But I prefer to approach it from a ‘Wow, they made good movies back then’ perspective rather than a ‘Wow, everything currently playing in theaters sucks’ perspective.
So, today was fun. I have interesting things to talk about.
There’s an interesting story I ran across today.
______
Back in 2006, a male nurse with a young, (7 – 13 years old) female, triple-amputee patient posted about her on an imageboard. The imageboard, which shall remain nameless, was and is known for being a not-very-nice place with people that never did nice things for anyone. But somehow, this nurse’s post attracted both attention and sympathy for the girl. In a massive outpouring of love, the posters on the board did something they never did and drew kind, funny things for the girl. The nurse showed her the drawings and she loved them and laughed at some, easing her depression.
That story was simply a Grinch-goes-nice story. The best way to put it is that inherently nasty people that let out the worst parts of themselves online banded together to make a little girl laugh.
Well, someone decided that the set of threads in which this all occurred was worth saving, and decided to archive the threads. Shortly after that, they were uploaded to a wiki based off the imageboard, meaning that all the images and text and feel-good records of the board’s once-in-a-lifetime kindness were stored there. Later that year, the wiki went down for unknown reasons and never came back up. Someone managed to pull the files off the server and reinstate the wiki as Wiki(name) 2, but that too was taken down. Luckily, someone with a little more sense got the files and uploaded them to MegaUpload so they could be stored. At this point the images and thread backups existed only on MegaUpload, though some of the images were saved in many places.
———-
This ends part one, the backstory.
What follows is current:
______
But then MegaUpload was taken down. The files would have been lost, presumably forever, but the original uploader, who had long since switched computers and lost the original material, managed to pull them off the second he got wind that MegaUpload was in trouble. Today I was on the aforementioned imageboard, and someone with access to those images and thread backups posted them to for all. I was in the right place, at the right time, and caught this thread before it cycled to deletion unnoticed. It turns out that this person has dedicated their time to creating a wiki with all of the internet’s greatest material and achievements, dredged from all corners of the web. This wiki can be downloaded in very compact form and reuploaded to any website or server, meaning that the data on it will never, ever be lost again. And data continues to be added to it. All of the internet’s most precious things, in one place, to be shared everywhere, and I was the first person this guy asked to help. He’s pulled gigabytes of material off sites that are now defunct and saved information from everywhere. It’s an absolute treasure trove of information, a lot of it thought lost. Because believe it or not, information can be lost on the internet. It’s saved and forgotten and cycles to deletion. And some of it is really worth saving. And I was invited to help make it happen.

Warm fuzzies abound.
Today I went dress shopping for Class Night (the eighth grade version of graduation at my school) with a bunch of friends. It’s an bit of a tradition for girls. I didn’t end up buying anything, though. I’m not a dressy type.
February Vacation got slaughtered by the October snowstorm, so I have today and tomorrow off. Except I have to go to the high school tomorrow for math and then work on History Day, so it’s not really a day off.
I really want to watch The Secret of Arriety.
Tired.
GAPAs, this might be snippable, I don’t know.
Some of you are in NEC Prep, right? I was wondering how the fallout from the whole Ben Zander firing shebang was working out on the ground. What’s the current feeling?
Just ate my first packzi of the day. Strawberry filled and delicious and I already feel so full and gross and all-consumed with fatty fried goodness.
Now off to have another. Yay for Fat Tuesday!
Would I be pied for mentioning the cesspool of high school traditions that is prom here? HAS ANYONE HERE BEEN TO PROM? Recommend or not recommend?????
No, but I’ve been permanently frightened away from it by listening to the This American Life episode on it, which I think you can find in their archive.
I didn’t go to either one, and I don’t regret not going.
I held an Anti-Prom party. A bunch of people came over to my house to drink tea, listen to quiet music, and feel cerebral and superior. Decades later, I have no regrets.
I did that too, but just by myself, and I threw some knitting into the mix. No regrets here either.
I went to prom three times and it was fun, but nothing really special. Basically a chance to hang out with friends, and chocolate fountain.
I went to our Schulball 3 times, but that’s a bit different. Recommend if you go with a bunch of friends and don’t get your expectations too high. Not recommend if you’re going as a third wheel to that couple or, even worse, those couples. Otherwise I know too little about proms to judge.
Recommend. You can talk **** about it all you want, before and during and after – and it well deserves that – but it’s still a high school tradition I think everyone should have.
-A
(Ooooh, right. Can’t talk like that here. Sorry…)
-A
…I don’t understand. Why do you think everyone should have it? Because it sounds almost as if it’s because it’s traditional? That… really isn’t good logic. Lots of things have been traditional, and many of them were awful, like unwilling human sacrifice. I mean, what if jumping into a pit of fire without a protective suit was traditional?
I’m not saying the prom is like that. I don’t know enough about it to give any advice on it. I’m saying that the logic you’re using to justify the prom can also be used to justify things like that just as easily–and exactly as logically–as justifying the prom. If people want to go to the prom, that’s fine. But that really doesn’t mean that everyone (or anyone) should go just because others do.
I personally didn’t go, I had hockey practice one of the times and didn’t really feel like going to either. It was really expensive at my school and I didn’t want to have to buy a dress/etc.
But I have many friends who went and enjoyed it very much! If you think you’ll have fun I say go for it, but don’t stress out if you decide you’d rather not.
Not recommend. By skipping it, I saved a whole lot of money and had a wonderful evening at home bonding with my parents and watching NASA TV.
Went once as a sophomore because at the time I was dating a senior, and I’m going again in May (it being my senior year and all)… and honestly, I think I’ll have more fun this time around just because of my friends. Just to get dolled up and dance and be crazy one last time. It’s worth it. Do it to have a good time with the people you love.
I think it all hinges on how you feel about dancing. I didn’t like it (not the prom kind, anyway, and I hadn’t discovered contradancing yet), so I knew I wouldn’t have enjoyed our prom. Tastes differ, as agrrrfishi illustrates.
(Dancer or not, however, that’s certainly not your last chance to be crazy.)
Oh, so true. Every day is a crazy day! But maybe the last chance to be crazy with all the exact same people, I mean, you do basically have the whole senior class all in one general area!
In terms of friends, I’m pretty sure all of mine are going; antiprom sounds cool but I don’t think anyone I know would be up for it! I almost wish I had a legitimate excuse not to go, or some other equally exciting, more personally satisfying event to attend, just to save me the trouble of making a decision! gahh /indecisive
It is pretty expensive what with all the various expenses, so that’s a con. I think the biggest turnoff, is definitely the dancing though. LOUD MUSIC JUMP EVERYWHERE THIS IS SO FUN GUYS, GET SWEATY BOOOMP BOOMP BOOMP auugh I can’t even fake that kind of dancing in a room full of people I don’t care about
Haha I like dressing up but that’s also just more trouble. I was actually thinking of making my own dress but I am by no means an superb/fast seamstress, and if I get lazy I could just end up having to scramble for some overpriced thing the week of. IN THE MEANTIME, METHODICALLY SCOUR THE INTERNET FOR VINTAGE 1930s FILMY SILK GOWNS THAT COST >$1000.
Someday, my precious. Someday we will be united.
The dancing at my not-really-a-formal in year 10 was fun. It was too loud though. On the other hand, dancing+camera angle+dirty-minded friends = lots of fun teasing each other afterwards. At least no one brought enough alcohol to get drunk or caught with it, or did anything else bad enough to be sent home.
Thrift stores. Go to thrift stores.
Vintage? Less than a thousand? Solution: Modcloth.
Modcloth is great but they don’t have too many actual evening gowns/prom appropriate type things, and the ones they have are more modern than anything.
I used to hunt their website INCESSANTLY, but all of their stuff fits a fairly narrow style range, and I feel like especially lately the “vintage-inspired” tagline is more of a marketing catch than anything. Style-wise, I see very little difference between them and forever 21. blahhhhh I just have a lot of feelings about online clothing stores, ok guys?
True, their stuff is way less ‘evening gown’ and way more ‘party dress’. I just like ModCloth better because their clothes are so much better made than stores like Forever21, the quality is just better and more comfortable and lasts longer. And the draping…don’t even get me started on how much I love draped dresses.
I think I might be getting my prom dress there…I really like the True Beauty pink gown. feel ALL the feelings
Is prom dancing the same as regular school-dance-dancing, where everyone jumps up and down in vague synchronicity and pumps their fists?
That would have scared us. Our dancing was more free-form and individualistic and not at all threatening. I didn’t like it because I couldn’t figure out how to learn to do something with so few rules.
I went and it was fun, but I had even more fun with my friends afterwards!
I should amend that post: I recommend it!
Unless it looks like it’s going to be a real NPR worthy horror story with no avenue of escape, why not attend? (And even then, you could go for the stories!) I could stay home and re-watch Firefly any night, but seeing all of my classmates put some effort into looking really nice only happened once. I like getting dressed up though, and I attended with some wonderful people. I hope you can too!
I didn’t go to either Junior or Senior prom. I was visiting colleges during Senior prom and I somewhat naively thought that Junior prom wouldn’t be worth it if I didn’t have a date.
Needless to say, apparently Junior prom was fun because a) there was a chocolate fondue fountain and b) everyone got a free pack of cards.
I would say prom is just another dance. If you don’t like school dances, there’s really no reason to go.
I went to prom, but only after excessive persuasion from my friends, who even bought me a ticket to seal the deal. But I had a good time! I’d say, if you have a good group of friends to go with who are excited about it, go for it! I played SET at prom, and afterwards we went to my friend’s house and watched Wishbone and Mulan.
Lurkety lurk lurk.

GRADSTER!!!!!!!
Hey! It’s been a while…
-A
Indeed it is.
EEEEEEEEEE GRADSTER
hi!
Gradster! How’s it going? I’ve missed you!
(Just going to reply to myself because it’s easier.)
Uhh, hey guys. Wow. Blast from the past. It’s really, really nice to be back.
I’m decent. I can update y’all on life if you like- wish I knew where to start, though.
-A
Hi! Great to know your life has been at least decent; “flamablamablous” would be preferrable, of course.
Hey, you!
Hiiiiiiiii gradster! I like your little avatar thing. Quidditch!
That’s me at the World Cup.
(Successful beat, if you were wondering.)
-A
Oh, I attended World cup IV as a spectator and had a great time! Couldn’t make it to Randall’s Island, but I heard it was even better than the previous year’s.
Well, I officially don’t have bedbugs. There’s been a bit of an infestation on campus, and so they’re coming around to every single room and to inspect for them, using dogs. This whole wing is clear, thankfully, which means I don’t have to stay out of my room for eight or nine hours while they pump hot air in through the window to kill the bugs.
I can’t believe tomorrow’s Ash Wednesday already. It seems like Christmas just ended, and suddenly it’s Lent. I hope I get to serve the Easter Vigil again this year–the schedule hasn’t been made yet. Hm….
This week has been pretty relaxed so far, which is nice after last week’s five-exams-in-three-days fiasco. I’m at 686 kanji, since I had to slow down so severely to have time to study for those exams. The next lesson in the book I’m using has 142 kanji, and they seem fairly difficult, but the author assures me that, “If you make it through this chapter smoothly, the worst will be behind you and you should have nothing more to fear the rest of the way.” I’ll do my best.
Oh, dangit, I just realized I forgot to eat lunch again.
Forgetting meals is the biggest problem with living alone for me, I think.
I don’t live alone, but… I just eat when I’m hungry. It works.
I’m really bad about remembering to eat, especially since I lowered my meal plan and am now responsible for feeding myself most of the time. It helps me to write meals down into my schedule so I don’t forget.
So remember how my computer was down with a virus?
It turns out that it has 60+ viruses, and essentially as much data as we can get has to be ripped off, the entire machine wiped, have windows reinstalled, and hopefully recover my old programs.
This will cost 200+ dollars, and it pretty much could have been avoided (I think) if I had disconnected my computer from the internet one time.
C’est la vie. Le monde n’est pas gentil toujours.
Oh goodness that happened to me too, a few years back. Best of luck!!
I’m sorry, Enc.
*gives computer repair gnomes*
You should have called me! I can do that for FREE!
Computer issues are TERRIBLE. I feel for you.
We got our computer back at around noon!
Of course, our internet went down (My dad changed passwords because of the virus, and the modems had decided to still use the old ones when connecting to the internet) and we only got it up around 3 hours later.
But everything’s back to normal. FINALLY.
My whole body hurts D:
Had hockey for 2+ hours on sunday and forgot I hadn’t skated for almost 2 months and now owww. All my muscles aaaaache.
In other news, one of my geology professors seems to exist on a higher plane of being. He’s exceedingly smart. But that makes it hard to follow his explanations, and since the packet/book doesn’t either and I couldn’t get it from talking to him privately either I just tried to google it… and I found lots of stuff involving the subject but none explaining how to use it or what it means. It’s like a conspiracy to keep this completely incomprehensible. Yeah. I tried working on it with a classmate but he isn’t having any luck understanding it either… going to have to try to ask the teacher again if I can’t find someone to teach it to me but it’s just frustrating that there don’t seem to be any instructions on how to READ the diagram and what it MEANS versus just 2 pieces of data everything tells you you can pull from it. Because everything also asks you to find out 48 other things from it as well, so they very clearly know there is more involved.
Sigh.
In the part of the Student Union where student organization set up tables, the tables for Students for Israel and Students for Justice for Palestine were right across the aisle from each other. I can’t tell if it was coincidence or somebody in administration having a weird sense of humor.
I may have accidentally converted my mother to Whovianism. I am not quite sure how I feel about this…
So I went skiing today. I hit my cheekbone-side-of-my-head really hard, like seeing stars hard. I now have a bit of a throbbing headache. I took aspirin so I think it’s going away but wait there it is again. I don’t have a bruise, yet, and there’s no swelling so…that’s good.
Gah, my head hurts.
This should probably go on rants and plains but, eh.
I really like ukuleles…I wish mine would get here… (I ordered it online so it’s supposed to come in two weeks. Oh well. The fact that I’m getting a ukulele makes up for my impatience, for the most part.)
D: Feel better!
Thank you.
I squidded your post for the pain, but you deserve a pie as well, for the ukelele. Please accept this comment as an equivalent.
I won the SEDS space trivia contest and I got a model Falcon 9 rocket as a prize! (Except I can’t assemble the model until I go home for spring break, as there isn’t enough shelf space for it in my dorm room.)
Very many congratulations, Kai!
You know when you listen to someone and you know instantly that they’re one of the most incredible people you’ve ever met? Yeah, that happened tonight while I was listening to a presentation by Keith Jacobshagen, a landscape painter. Short of Willa Cather, I’ve never heard anyone love Nebraska and the prairies and the irrigation ditches and the sky as much as myself. He explained the journal he writes and draws and paints in every day, and he talked about the fields he used to paint that are now just parking lots and gas stations, and he talked about walking home as a kid from his friend’s house in rural Kansas at dusk, listening to the sound of radios floating from open windows as the sky turned from grey to purple, and he quoted writers’ descriptions about how prairies aren’t as immediately impressive, but have a sublime beauty that lasts much longer than anything else in the world. I’m not sure what heaven is like, but I think it involves listening to him talk for all eternity while watching a thunderstorm build up on the horizon over the cornfields as the first stars start to twinkle in the navy blue sky.
Beautiful. *claps*
Now on my list of Fun Things to Do When No One is Watching: sitting in an armchair playing violin and pretending to be Sherlock Holmes. I figured out both the movie and the TV series theme music and even had a brother to brandish my bow at.
So Google is expected to start selling augmented reality eyeglasses that project information and games and whatnot based on what you’re looking at. What I can’t believe is not that we will soon have this kind of technology, but rather that this kind of technology doesn’t surprise me or seem “out there”. When I heard about it, I thought, “Oh, that seems like a logical progression, I wonder why that hasn’t been done already.”
The future is weird. Also, Google is an incredible company. Robotic cars, space elevators, and augmented reality.
I have the oddest feeling that if I went 500 years into the future (provided we still exist) I would not be surprised in the least by any technological advances. Solved the energy crisis? “Oh, cool.” Flying cars? “I wondered when we’d get around to that.” The only thing that would amaze me would be world peace.
…entirely unlike someone from 500 years ago visiting today’s world.
My grandfather is dying. Like, basically any time now. He’s ninety-three and has Parkinson’s and fell and hit his head, and he’s in Florida and we can’t fly down to go be with him because my mom just had four wisdom teeth extracted and she isn’t allowed to fly. So she’s trying to work out some will issues and things from here, and we just keep waiting for phone calls from my aunt and various other relatives who live closer to him than we do.
And I’m just kind of sitting here and browsing the internet and doing my normal lifey things and not feeling anything in particular. I feel like a completely horrible person.
I am so sorry about your grandfather, Armada. *thousands of hugs*
Don’t feel bad for not feeling. Emotions are something humans cannot help. You might not have yet processed anything yet, or you might be numb, or you might just not be feeling anything, and that’s okay. You are not a completely horrible person, you are a human being, and, as a human being, your emotions are things that are for the most part out of your control.
Recently my family went through a vaguely similar event when my great-uncle died, and it was very hard. I can’t really know what your family is going through, but…well, what I’m trying to say is, please don’t feel alone. I’m sure you already know this, but you can come to us if you ever need to.
My thoughts will be with you and your family.
Like Mikazuki said, don’t feel bad about not feeling anything. The grief will eventually come, whether you want it to or not. Trust me.
I had a similar experience with a faraway grandfather and it really helped my mom to tell stories about him–what he was like when my parents were engaged, my dad’s first impressions of him, how he smoked a lot, how much he loved his wife. It helped me learn a lot more about him, too.
To add onto what Mikazuki and CPM said, if you should continue to not really feel anything in particular, that’s okay. It doesn’t mean anything about the strength of your love for him, nor does it reflect poorly on you as a person. There is no “should” when it comes to emotions; the most we can do is let them exist and try our best to accept them as they come.
♥
Argh, rubber bands on my braces and I can’t talk which feels weird because I love going around spouting nonsense.
Also, my friend has convinced me to have an MLP: FiM marathon this weekend. yay
I feel your pain, rubber bands are incredibly irritating. Your mouth will eventually figure out how to work around them though. It only took me a day or so, so don’t worry.
And have fun! Good to see more bronies around.
Don’t worry! Rubber bands get better over time!
I can’t believe nobody has freaked out about it yet, but J.K. Rowling’s writing a new book! And the only thing we know about it is that it’s “for adults.”
Whatever she’s writing, I’m pretty excited!!!
What? SQUEEE!!
*researches* Actually, she’s also said that it’s it’s a novel and that it’s very different from the Harry Poter series. Her official website is being relaunched and redesigned and won’t be available until spring; maybe that means we’ll get information about it then! I’m so excited!
Oh, and details will be announced “later in the year” (from now, not from spring).
Me too me too me too!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m definitely going to read it, but I’m nervous about whether it’ll live up to my expectations or not. Of course, it’s a bit early on to start worrying about that, but…eh.
I really hope it’s fantasy, but I suppose that’s unlikely. I’ll read it no matter what, though, and I’m very very excited!
Guys, today my family headed down to the Grand Canyon, and Kokopelli was everywhere. There were even Cookiepellis. Also, there was a Coconino Art Institute and Coconino rock and Coconino everything, pronounced Kokonino. So I’m pretty sure if there’s ever a MuseCon, we should hold it down in that area.
Cookiepellis? Awesome!
It’s probably a better tourist destination than Muse, Pennsylvania.
MUSE, PENNSYLVANIA IS THE BEST TOURIST DESTINATION OF ALL TIME.
Yeah, Kokopelli is a really big thing out in Arizona/New Mexico. That’s where I got most of my Koko jewelry.
Today was a good day. HKMUN conference (yes, so soon after NAIMUN…teachers weren’t very happy, oops) and my resolution passed with only two votes against out of thirty-something delegates! Conference continues and ends tomorrow.
Then I rushed back to my school for a football/soccer tournament, our first games of the season, and we won all three games against the other schools’ Varsity teams (we’re JV)! Football/soccer is fun! We’re going to Shanghai for this China Cup thing in March, about a week after I get back from Jordan. Non-stop travelling…
I am devouring Hot Cocao Mix. In powder form. It has tiny marshmallows in it too!
My finger is slightly unhappy with being slammed in a locker door today but chocolate makes it feel better.
I made a pinhole camera out of a hot cocoa mix tin once (sans marshmallows, unfortunately).
It still smells like the mix… And as chocolate makes everything better, and photography is fun, then this it is… both fun and better?
Better than fun!
Adeliae and AL, you guys are giving me ideas (*shudders* oh the horror!) which might not be very pleasant for my mom because I’m still pretty much high from yesterday…
Ooh, I made a model of the moon’s craters using hot cocoa mix! I got to eat the marshmallows first, and then I gently tossed rocks and studied the debris of flour that was in the pan under the hot cocoa mix.
This past week has been really busy for me schoolwork-wise, what with a midterm and a presentation and stuff, and this weekend I have to prepare for another presentation and three papers, but at the moment I exist in the happy place between storms. My midterm was easier than I thought it would be, I had a class cancelled this week, giving me more free time, and one of my presentations was delayed so I have more time to work on it.
Happy FF is happy. Let’s just hope it lasts.
Wheeee! So Allosaur just flew home and I am kind of sad about that, but it has been a fantastic week. We spent a day at the Tech Museum and then wandering around San Jose, and yesterday we took the bus to Palo Alto and walked around Stanford for ages. Stanford is awesome. It is also very big. Kokonilly, you are going to need a bike.
You didn’t visit Rosanne? She’ll be sorry to have missed you.
Whatwhat Rosanne lives near Stanford oh my gosh this is the coolest thing because I can take a bus there.
I’m sorry. The fact that I can once again rely on public transportation excites me.
Rosanne works at Stanford. She’s the editor of Stanford Medicine magazine.
(Oh, and I went to graduate school at Stanford. You were treading hallowed ground indeed!)
I have this feeling that everyone except me knew that. Hm. A Kokon must happen, I think!
You did? I must have missed the monument.
I don’t think it’s been built yet, actually. It’s really too bad; I hope they get around to finishing it soon.
I’m going to be visiting the campus sometime in April.
Can you kidnap me? P*ease?
Earthworms are so cute! I love the way that if you pick one up, it’ll try to burrow in your hand. I know it’s completely instinctual, but so’s the vast majority of what babies do, and no-one says that means they shouldn’t be considered adorable/their behaviors endearing.
Anyway, I’m keeping some in a plastic container with soil and leaves and grass. When I decided to do that, it was to observe their behavior, but honestly, the way things are going, they’ll probably end up as more of ridiculously low-maintenance pets than research subjects. I don’t really care; I love watching them; they’re amazing. How can some people dislike them? I should find out how to tell the difference between earthworm taxa; I think I have some different types here. I hope I don’t have too many in one container; I don’t want them to have to compete for resources. I’ll look under the dead leaves/grass in a few days; I’m sure that’ll be interesting… I’m happy!
Bibliophile, have you ever watched any of David Attenborough’s nature documentaries? I think you’d probably really like them.
Thanks for the suggestion! I haven’t, but when I was on vacation in Massachusetts, there was a copy of one of his books (which I think a documentary was based on), and I read part of it, although I was busy and wanted to read a different book first. I loved it! I really should get it from the library so that I can finish it; thanks for the reminder, although I suppose it wasn’t exactly meant as a reminder.
I saw one about flying dinosaurs other than birds today on the field trip (entirely by coincidence). It was quite fascinating!
Enc, your nation died again.
I’m about to go to a birthday party for a stuffed animal. Have I mentioned that my grandmother is fairly literally insane? Yeah. And I feel a migraine coming on, but I didn’t bring my migraine meds back home with me, so I hope ibuprofen will keep it from getting worse.
SFTMC
Um, have fun at the birthday party, at least? *tentative hug*
I know.
Unfortunately I can’t get on NS because I’m having problems with my video driver and any non-text only website could cause a blue screen.
ADFSGDSHLKJSRETYSE
The new pokemon games have been announced! There’s going to be a pokemon black 2 and pokemon white 2!
For the fourth time it’s not the mystery dungeon I was hoping for, but still a game to squee about.
*grumbles about how they said they weren’t making any more Unova games*
O_o maybe it’s not in Unova…
Wait, they don’t have a trio of games this generation as usual?
Really, nothing about Generation V has been “usual”.
And if these two games are in fact direct sequels, and if they had Mass Effect-esque connections between the two…
*head explodes*
Why did this get squidded? I was expressing excitement. Unless you all have me confused with Piggy?
No, I had no idea what you were talking about, but you mentioned your head exploding, which isn’t generally good in my experience, so I guessed that a squid might be appropriate. I was wrong.
Squids can be celebratory as well, you know.
That’s what I think the problem is with the squid counter: one tends to consider it the opposite of a pie, while both can essentially serve the same purpose.
Which is also what makes it so MuseBloggy.
That wasn’t the case, though, I said. I did what *C did.
I AGREE WITH THIS
SQUID ARE NOT NEGATIVE BY NATURE
I think of squids as expressing either empathy or “Oh man me too! I feel the same way”
I didn’t squid this, but when I read it I thought it was a ‘plaint…
Pokemon Black/White 2 are coming out in June in Japan and Autumn everywhere else! *squee*
And I reappear once more.
…I just watched five hours of MLP: FiM.
I am now without words.
Jade: Helllloooo! Grant is here! We were going to go to a concert but it sold out Oh well. Next month. But now we’re hanging in my dorm! Also he saw my hockey game earlier today! wooo!
Grant: Precisely what she said! Better planning will be in order next time. Hope all is fair and good in the kingdom of the magical Muse pixies!
Hey, Kokonventioners! That’s a shame about the concert, but hanging out is likely quite fun. Grant, the kingdom is fair and good. We pixies are all utterly pixelated. {Flings pixie dust into the air, grinning exuberantly.}
Do you suppose that the ability to raise one’s eyebrow sarcastically is genetic, like the ability to roll your tongue or form a Vulcan hand sign? LIke, it’s possible to figure out how to do it with lots of practice, but it comes naturally to some more than others?
I can’t roll my tongue, and I can only raise my left eyebrow without the other one flying up too, but I’ve never had any problems with the V sign.
I don’t really know! Both the eyebrow raise and Vulcan hand sign I taught myself… The former directly because of Doctor Who and David Tennant .
But I’ve never been able to roll my tongue. Even with practice.
…And both my parents can curl their tongues. I don’t think either of them can raise one eyebrow (my mom always looks impressed when I do it), and only my dad can do the Vulcan hand sign.
I can only raise my left eyebrow. Because I was super dedicated to being exactly like David Tennant.
Hmmm, I suppose it could be… no matter how hard I try, I can only raise my left eyebrow. Meanwhile some people seem to easily manage the eyebrow wave.
I can’t curl my tongue, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t raise one eyebrow. Both eyebrows always come up in the process, making me look vaguely troubled/insane.
But I can do the Vulcan hand sign. That’ll come in handy someday…right?
I can do the eyebrow raise and eyebrow wave without any practice, but I taught myself the Vulcan sign.
I can sort of halfway do the Vulcan hand sign, and the eyebrow raise I have never been able to do. But the eyebrow raising reminds me of Ebeth’s NaNo, which I spent two hours reading yesterday.
I remember being able to learn both pretty easily. I can raise both eyebrows independently, although it gives two different looks– if I raise just the left, it looks skeptical, and just the right one looks quizzical.
I can do the Vulcan hand sign, but only with my right hand. I can’t do the eyebrow raise or the tongue roll. I’ve heard that tongue-rolling ability is genetic, but I’m not sure if that’s true.
I can do all three; my mom can do the Vulcan salute and the tongue roll, but not the eyebrow raise, and my dad can’t do any of them (this came up in a discussion last night).
I keep meaning to teach myself the eyebrow raise. I taught myself to wiggle my ears in fifth grade and to do the Vulcan sign in jr. high. (I literally put hair binders around each two fingers so that I could keep them separated. Now I can do it easily.)
Some people say that the ability to raise an eyebrow or to do the Vulcan hand sign is from genetics. I recall having a conversation about this with my parents and family friends. I could curl/roll my tongue while neither my parents could do that. So then we blamed that on my grandparents instead.
I can raise either eyebrow at will and even do an eyebrow wave as Cskia mentions. I am also able to do the Vulcan hand sign and roll/curl my tongue without any difficulty at all. Lucky me.
From this perspective, my sister is the only one in my family who can raise her eyebrow. However, it’s a little complicated genetically, that might work…
I can do the vulcan hand sign easily, and roll my tongue, though I used to have problems with that when I was little.
And raising eyebrows.
I TRY.
And fail.
_–
‘ ‘
Actually, according to a Snopes forum thingy, curling one’s tongue isn’t genetic.
I wasn’t able to do it until middle school, and then I finally was able to after a bit of practice.
I can raise my right eyebrow alone but not my right, I can made the vulcan sign, and I can roll my tongue.
I found an interesting article about this
Search “Daily Mail Facial expressions are inherited, not learned”
So then that means not just ability is passed down genetically. Mannerisms are too. Which explains why even blind Vulcans make the ‘live long and prosper’ sign.
I don’t know whether the ability is, though. The thing about genetic experiments is that they’re accurate for a certain percentage of the time. This is almost 100%, but more than one hundred of these experiments have been done. Because of this, a lot of results of these tests turn out to be coincidences after they’re repeated by other scientists. The trouble is, so many are done that most aren’t repeated for years because people just don’t bother. It isn’t that any individual scientist is cheating or doing sloppy research; the whole system just isn’t accurate enough. The trouble is, people don’t know that. When studies that appear to have a good statistical chance of being accurate are conducted, and a trend is found, people jump on the trend. If an important social issue seems to have been ‘solved’ by science, people don’t understand when they’re later told that the studies were incorrect.
I read this in a book by Ian Stewart, who has also published Muse articles, the Science of Discworld books, and Flatland fanfiction.
This is a good point. It bothers me when I see news anchors reporting on the latest “[food or activity] is [good/bad] for you and [raises/lowers] the risk of [disease]!” study as though it’s conclusive and proven. The worst that can happen is that people get confused when contradictory studies are prematurely reported on, and they either make less-than-ideal decisions or choose to ignore such research altogether.
I can do all three. My mom can roll her tongue, my dad can’t, I don’t know if they can do the Vulcan hand sign, and neither of my parents can raise one eybrow.
I have returned from the Illinois Junior Classical League Convention! It was incredibly fun, despite getting approximately ten total hours of sleep in the span of three days. Raeda in fossa est! (Ecce Romani references are such fun…)
Oh, I’m using Ecce Romani right now- there’s a class set and I get to learn Latin. I think I’m going to ask my teacher if I can borrow one, because these odd class-rotation things we have are too short.
Ohnoes! A shortage of Latin textbooks?! A travesty.
Just went to see the Les Mis Musical! It was absolutely incredible, especially the Thenardiers in “Master of the House” and Enjolras and his crew in “Beyond the Barricade”.
Oh my gosh, I know. It’s just breathtaking, isn’t it?
TELL TELL TELL TELL
It sounds like it was wonderful…ah so jealous, mmprh.
Well, we had just finished reading Les Mis in English (the short version), and apparently, our teacher managed to convince the principal to use the school’s budget to get us tickets for free. So after a ridiculously long bus ride, we arrived at the theater.
Personally, I loved the little Cosette and Gavroche characters. Those children were amazing actors, especially for their age. My only regret is that they didn’t actually show the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER LES MIS SPOILER scene where Gavroche gets killed, we just heard it from our point of view, the other side of the barricade.
I know, they were great, weren’t they?
In an earlier version of the musical my mom saw, she said that there was a turntable representing the turn of time, and SPOILERS LES MIS SPOILERS LES MIS SPOILERS LES MIS SPOILERS LES MIS after that scene at the barricade had ended, the turntable turned so you saw all the bodies on the other side and his was on top… That was so sad…
That sounds so amazing…all of it…
I come bearing good news (or at least what I hope you think is good news). I will soon have internet at home! As I apparently have access now and remembered about my beloved MuseBlog, I will comment on as many posts as possible. And yes, I just had my 16th birthday, which means just two years until I must use my full name-I’ll try to start posting regularly before then, so everyone won’t just think “Who is this strange person? Is he friend? Is he foe? Is he 18-year old spambot?”
Wait, hold on; must? Am I breaking the rules?

Don’t worry, you’re fine. We generally give veteran MBers the choice of sticking with their blognames.
Bazinga.

Yay, birthday! My family came to visit yesterday, and I spent last night at my grandmother’s house in Worcester (without Internet), and we had a big celebration with my candle in a cherry pie (because I don’t eat cake).
Then, we came back to Boston and ate lunch at a fancy restaurant, and my parents took me to the campus bookstore and asked me which two books I wanted most for my birthday. I requested (and received) Wade Davis’ “Into the Silence: the Great War, Mallory, and the Conquest of Everest”, and the collected edition of the Marvel Comics event “Fear Itself”.
I go through Massachusetts once a month or so. Usually less, but it’s not a long long trip. If you’re in Boston we should Kokon. If we meet in, say, Oxford it’s an hour drive for you and and hour and a half for me. I really want to Kokon with some of the New England bloggers, I think it would be really fun. My parents are also way more open to it now.
Tonight I have eaten:
peanut butter cookies
chocolate cream pie
cayenne chocolate chip cookies
buttermilk pie
butter cake
butterscotch cookies
chocolate cream-filled cupcakes
red velvet cupcakes
carrot cupcakes with maple frosting
ginger cookies
brownies
apple cake
cherry white chocolate cookies
Feel slightly ill. No regrets.
That is awesome.
So on Saturday night I went to a friend’s birthday party. And it was fun! It’s been a long time… *feels urge to sing Enterprise theme* I’m feeling a little more like the typical schooled MBer and some of the overacheivers at my school thanks to having more classes than my friends and doing nerdy stuff. I still procrastinate on assignments unfortunately.
I get the impression most MBers procrastinate. We overachieve, take the maximum amount of classes, and often get excellent grades, but we procrastinate quite often. Of course that doesn’t mean you should; if you can do better then the ‘typical schooled MBer,’ that’s great, although we do not want to compete with you. I just don’t want you to have the wrong impression about what that is.
Can someone explain what this thread is about?
I don’t get it.
This is a thread for anything, basically. We mostly use it to talk about life, current events, or such.
Like the title says, it’s random. You can write about whatever you want here. Generally, if a more topic-specific thread exists about a given subject, it’s better to post about it there instead of the Random Thread, but that’s not a strict rule. A lot of people use this thread to talk about their daily lives or current events.
This is our Random Thread. We talk about anything we like here. It is often better to talk about some things on the threads that exist for those topics, but, mostly, follow the rules (https://musefanpage.com/blog/?page_id=18) and you can’t go wrong.
Precisely.
Using WrittenKitten for the first time.
It’s super effective!
Mathemakiiten.
Cello-Playing Mathemakitten.
We should start a game where we combine people’s avatars and usernames to make things like Cello-Playing Mathemakitten. (Yes, I know it wasn’t about the avatar, but that’s what I thought it was in the RC bar.) For example, I would call you xkCastled. Maybe other people can come up with less lame things.
KaiserYves?
Tolkeinlover?
I can’t really think of anything else! Bah.
muselórien?
I think Vendy wins this one.
Mine would be… Rosebud2. How boring.
I can’t come up with anything for myself at all, so Rosebud, *squids* (although I pied this)
Yours reminds me of what I envision the Misty Mountains to be. Therefore, MistyCski.
Tree of Skiginning?
Cstreea?
Sorry, I mean *Cstreea.
Ah, that snowflake star fuzzball asterisk makes no difference. I sound like ski resorts! Or maybe types of tea…
Whosbud!
I think I already did this when choosing my gravatar. It’s a fan. With a fantastical creature on it. Hence, FantasyFan. Really, is there anything else it could be?
And Piggy’s is, of course, Piggy.
Unfortunately, mine are rather congruous.
As are mine. *sigh*
LittleBlackBasementKitten is a bit boring but apt.
And mine.
DuckyDucky. DuckDucky. DuckyDuck. Duck2 (pronounced “Duck Squared”).
That last one would really be Duck^2, not Duck2. Duck2 would imply “Duck*2”, which would really be “2Duck”.
…Cream ducky? No, that sounds like a meat pie… Ducky Against a Green and Pale Blue Background? That’s way too boring. Duckhead? That sounds insulting. Ducky of the Leaves and Sky (taking a guess at what the background is)? Ducky of Dark Eye and Golden Beak?
Duckling. Because I think that your gravatar is a duckling, not full grown…it’s got that fuzzy look to it. Hmm. Duckfuzzy?
I don’t think I’m creative enough to think of a good one for mine, though I wish I was.
Selenium the Tudor Rose?
Selenium the Wafflerose. (It looks like a waffle! Don’t judge me!)
I would be… Cat’s Eris? I don’t know.
Bookshy?
Fignym?
Pseudobash?
I think that my avatar is a bit too similar to my name to really change my name.
What is your avatar, anyway? It looks nice, but I don’t know what it signifies.
I bet it’s a color enhanced photo of a volcanic eruption taking place on Enceladus, a moon of… Saturn? Pretty sure it’s a moon orbiting a gas giant, and it has huge volcanic eruptions. Maybe so big it loses atmosphere? Which is strange because it’s icy, or has ice covering a sea of methane or something. Maybe not true ice? And it’s probably named after an Ancient Greek god, because that’s what they’re always doing, right? Anyway, you’d probably be better off googling.
It is a photograph of an ice geyser eruption on Enceladus- a moon of Saturn. I am fairly sure it is actually an ammonia geyser, although I’m not 100%
I would be Mikadewki?
I’m Tardigradophile. That would fit, but ‘tardigrad’ (the stem of ‘tardigrade’) is Latin, not Greek like ‘ophile’… Can anyone translate? It’s made up of the elements ‘tardus’ (slow) and ‘gradus’ (stepping, stepper, walking, walker, or moving–different books and articles say different things, so I don’t know whether it’s a noun or an adjective, unfortunately).
Would that make me Kreeper’s Apprentice?
So I would be… Agent Rutabaga?
Or Rutabaga Lightning. I’m partial to that one: it makes me picture you as a high-velocity projectile or, for some odd reason, a soup with inappropriately high levels of lemongrass.
Rutabaga Lightning sounds like a really crazy attack or spell in a video game or anime.
Or a hipster band name.
I’m keeping that one in mind for if I ever start my own band. *makes mental note*
GAPAs, I can’t remember, is the preferred address thegapas[at]gmail.com? Thank you!
That one works, and it’s the best one for sending big attached files like pictures.
All right, thank you! I’ll get on it as soon as I stop drowning in this homework and studying and have caught up with a nice, twenty-hour nap. (I wish.)
Good luck!
Today I bought a Moleskine notebook. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Hey, I just did too, actually. Going to keep track of plants and birds I see, with sketches (hopefully watercolored) and pressed things. Because the other day I got sad about how there’s no more Awesome Scientific Notebooks.
I fully support this. Audubon is some of my all-time favorite reading material, and that kind of descriptive observation seems to be a lost art nowadays.

10 at night, haven’t even begun studying for tomorrow. Senioritis at its best.
Best as in, usually you start studying earlier, or you never study at all?
(Yeah, and one in the morning, haven’t even begun sleeping. That might be a little more than senioritis, missy.)

I think I’m addicted to Museblog….
Someone tell me I have a right to be proud.
Welcome to our world.
It happens.
The Kokonspiracy grows!
You aren’t the first or only one, believe me!
Now all we need to do is get you to watch a little MLP: FiM and draw HPBs all over your horrid tests and the transformation will be complete. >:D
Yesterday evening I drew a Valknut from a picture on the Internet. This evening I am sketching a skeleton, mostly from memory. I am not good at drawing, but neither am I as bad as once I thought.
My friends are not inclined to discuss much philosophy. I need a group of people with whom I can regularly discuss philosophy. I’m still confused about my philosophical opinion of the grindadrap, because I haven’t been able to fully talk it out with anyone. Still, it is not as though there are not other things to consider.
I am listening to Paganini and it is gorgeous.
Traditional whaling is a complex issue that I would love to discuss with you! I’m conflicted as well.
Pilot whales aren’t endangered.
It’s natural for them to be hunted.
Tradition/culture. (Losing it would be psychologically damaging to the Faroese.)
The hunt is unnecessary.
The method is cruel.
Whales are very intelligent.
There need to be adjectives and a scale with which we can describe and quantify tastes and smells.
And pain. Though all the the above would be difficult to measure and would vary widely depending on the sensitivity/pain tolerance of the user.
(See “A Better Pain Scale”, on Hyperboleandahalf.)
Or some sort of intensity scale for adjectives, with prefixes or suffixes.
Beyond the traditional “very,” “really,” “sort of,” and “ish.”
School for this week and next week is over! Thank goodness. I don’t think I could take any more stress this week after the fun (not) of sleeping at nearly 4 am…Makes me sound like a terrible, unhealthy person but I promise you guys I never stay up that late (I usually sleep at 12-ish. Now you know.) Anyway, off to take a nap forever and put off my math project!
UKULELE.
It’s wonderful and flammy and smells nice, even. I love it so much. I’ve only tuned it as of now, and it’s watching me as I look around the internet for beginner ukulele lessons I can print. I am very, very excited about this. I am only typing in a calm and collected manner because I don’t want the ukulele to become afraid of me.
That’s right, it is a living creature. So far, I think it’s beginning to trust me. After I got its strings in tune, it began to be less cautious and even snuffled my hand a bit at one point.
I’m pretty sure it is actually a she. She needs a name. Does anyone have ideas?
*brief moment of SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
She definitely needs a name, but that’s something only you can give her.
True, sigh. *Is bad at coming up with names*
Off to Google.
I don’t know your ukelele, so I can’t name her, but mythological names are often convenient and descriptive. (As you can see from my adventures on the R&R thread, ahaha.)
I recommend Greek, Hindu, Hawaiian, Roman, or Russian mythological names myself. Additionally, the Godchecker website has the name of just about every mythological figure ever, and is an exceptionally useful resource.
My names always just kind of happened. For example, my first (rented) alto sax ended up being named after a breed of chicken, my first (school owned) tenor sax I generally referred to as “that thing”, and my current tenor is named after a girl on my school bus who usually sits in our seat but had to move because there wasn’t enough room for her with the huge case. My current (school owned) trombone is named after a girl who wanted a trombone named after her after she found out how my tenor sax got her name. (I don’t mind. It’s a nice name.)
The name will come.
So, today, my professor confirmed a suspicion I had when I first watched the Jimmy Neutron episode where they find the mummy’s tomb– Jimmy says he can translate the hieroglyphics because he has a “Sanskrit-to-English translator”.
Now, when I first saw this, I couldn’t have been older than 11 and was probably younger, but I knew that didn’t make sense because Sanskrit is a language from India that has nothing to do with Egypt.
As we learned in class today, Sanskrit and Ancient Egyptian are not even in the same language family. (Sanskrit is Indo-European, Egyptian is Afroasiatic.) Some boy genius.
Oh hey. By learning Glyphs I’ve learned at least one non-Indo European language! Yay!
Heiroglyphics or Maya glyphs?
Egyptian Heiroglyphs. I don’t know them by heart, but I studied them for a semester.
For the record, I brought two issues of Muse to school today. The education [of Swalot] continues.
I was enjoying them till the teacher person had to bring up grades. >.<
I noticed that… drtgbhuijumk;
and I had chosen the issue about the whale carcass because I knew it would interest you (which obviously worked because when you saw that you were smiling widely). Tomorrow…
Yes…
And yesh! Although I didn’t get to finish it… *sniffles*
*huggles, squids, and Muse issues*
Thanks. On a side not, can I nom the squids? *innocent smile*
The teeth are so perfect.
I think we’d all appreciate it if you didn’t nom the squids. Also, D’AWW.
D’awww indeed! Those squids are adorable.
(by the way. I drew a snow squid with a graduation cap.)
I haven’t posted here in a while; you need an update.
Saturday, I participated in a solo and ensemble contest for vocals. There were three possible ratings: 1 (outstanding), 2 (excellent), and 3 (“good”, although anything that isn’t good will have to go into this category as well). My solo got a 1, so I’m getting a medal! My choir did an ensemble that also got a 1, so I’m getting another medal!
Sunday, I went to see Little Women (the musical) because I was invited by a family friend, and my mom wanted me to accept. I was reluctant because the book was one of the very few classics I disliked. It just bored me; the characters didn’t have enough personality and were almost all Sues. The musical, though… Actually, I loved it! It focused on Jo, but she was different. They focused more on the facts that she was a writer, that she was unique and a nonconformist, that she had dreams and the willpower to execute them, that she was loyal and brave and quirky and obstinate. She was a person, and almost better, one who I could identify with. That’s rare. I loved it!
Today, we’d a field trip to a really awesome museum! It was lovely! And I’ve had no homework this week so far! That’s never happened before, this year! It’s lucky, because I have an application I really need to work on. It’s for a scholarship to an awesome but expensive marine biology camp–not the one I mentioned before; that’s in Maine, so I wouldn’t be able to afford it even with a scholarship. This isn’t the same, but it’s still amazing, and if I get the scholarship, I can go without having to pay anything myself (which would be bad because I’m still saving it all for the one in Maine).
BEWARE! Time just reported a string of tuba thefts in California!
In other news, my school is woefully unprepared to preform in less than two weeks “Crazy for You”
I hate that. I hope they get the tubas back or else suddenly hundreds of ensembles will have no lower sections.
Happy Leap Day! May you all find many reasons to leap for joy.
Happy Leap Day to you, too! I took special pride in leaping around as one of our stretches during my gym class.
I had a friend who did not understand the concept of Leap Day.
“Isn’t it March first? Oh wait. February isn’t a short month? But I thought… It is Wednesday right? But – oh. It’s just longer every four years?
WHY?! THIS IS INCREDIBLY STUPID.”
…My friends are good people.
Time to choose a room for next year. But I don’t have any roommates. I’m terrified that I’ll end up with someone I don’t know…
One of my friends has a friend she’s sharing an apartment with, but since I don’t know her she doesn’t know if she wants me as roommate or not. I don’t have anything planned out and I hate that. I really do. And all of this is time-sensitive so I have to do it now on top of everything else and I can barely keep up with my life already…
