Muse turned out to be a tiny place, one of those towns that people describe as “a wide spot in the road.” It’s not far off the beaten track, but you probably wouldn’t stumble across it if you weren’t looking for it.
It has a smattering of wooden houses,
two lodge halls (Kokonventioneers take note!), a church or two, a beauty salon, a day school that appears to double as a general store, a post office (see above), an elementary school,
and not much else.
Cell-phone photos taken on a gray, drizzly day in late December probably don’t do it justice. All the same, it’s probably never exactly picturesque.
In other words, it’s absolutely bursting with potential.
haha! mostly harmless!
SWEET.
Who went there?
Oh. Robert did.
Ooh. Special. Where in PA? Like, near the top, or the middle, or the bottom, or by the ocean, or inland? I want to visit!!! And I’m sure when the Kokonspiracy succeeds, we’ll make Muse, PA a headquarrters for our covert operations. Because who would think to look in Muse, PA for Muserly operations?
It’s a few miles southwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border. Let’s see if I can link to GoogleMaps…
Next someone will have to visit Muse, Oklahoma.
It’s so tiny! Not that I have anything to compare it to. And kind of far far away from the part of Pennsylvania that I could be expected to visit. And if I asked to go to Oklahoma, my parents would laugh at me, most likely.
YES! A Kokonvention there would be EXCELLENT!!! (Because I can make it there! So can Taiwan Hippo Fan and Karrdash). It looks like a really cool place!
6 – Are you serious?!?!!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!! We could have met you! Grrrrrrr…. Robert!!!!!!!!!!! Why didn’t you stop in Pittsburgh! The Wonderful River City! Aren’t you in Cleveland right now? Meet up with us when you come back! That would be the awesomest thing!!!!!!! Mostly Harmless!!!!! Panda and I will totally get my parents to drive a few measly miles to Muse, PA, and we WILL get to meet you! Wonderfulnesssssss!!!!!!!!!!
6- I could probably go to Muse, Oklahoma in the spring or summer (really). Its a tiny place in the middle of nowhere, but it backs right up against a national park thingy and my parents love that kind of thing.
Oh yeah, I case you didn’t guess, I live somewhere in OK
I lived 10 miles from Muse, PA at one point. Is it my fate to live close to muse always?
*falls over dead laughing* That is hilarious.
Oh, it is perfect. Just innocently unnasuming enough to serve as the perfect sercret headquarters. *cue evil laugh and menacing lightning*
This is strange. Why are we turning this peaceful little town into a secret headquarters for musers planning to take over the world?
Because no one shall suspect a thing.*evil laugh*
Muse in MY state?! That is so awesome! I NEED to find it! To Pittsburg!
17 – Actually, we kept our h during World War 2. It’s Pittsburgh. It would be great if you could come. Where do you live? If it’s small, you can just say it’s a small town near [blank], or something. But Pennsylvanians, if you live less than an hour away from Muse, COME TO THE KOKONVENTION THAT WILL HAPPEN!!!!
YAY!!! This can be our MH headquarters! And the inhabitants will be so delighted that we’ve come to lift their scrawny little town out of its current muddy obscurity! no offense…
hail muse,PA!
Those nice civilians don’t know that somewhere in the world (or the internet), people are trying to take over their peaceful town. Wow, that’s something to think about. What if people right now are plotting to take over my town? Hmmm.
no one will want to take over mine, it’s too small, insignificant and hard to spell. but compared to Muse, PA, it’s a………a…… well, some kind of town that’s really great.
cool pics. do any of the magazine gang know that the town exists???
We should send a big stack of Muses to the city hall. To gain their trust.
Mwahahahahahaha!
Haha…won’t be so peaceful with a few flying pies, now will it? These poor people need waking up. Forward, hot pink bunnies! Forward, Mostly Harmless! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I did some research on Muse, PA.
The Muse Elementary school has 292 students. There are 15 full-time teachers.
Muse was originally a coal mining village. Only people who worked in the mines were allowed to live in Muse. The village was owned by the coal company, and there were different kinds of houses to show what kind of family lived there. The large white house was the Mine Superintendent’s house. The miners’ houses were small and gray. Originally, there were 150 gray duplex houses in the villages, and the miners lived in those houses. Each house had four rooms.
Most of the houses in Muse, PA are still the duplexes they once were, but have been re-done and are very nice to live in.
Students attending Muse Elementary School generally score high on standardized tests. The school average in 2006 was:
Grade 3 Reading – 96%
Grade 3 Math – 98%
Grade 4 Reading – 80%
Grade 4 Math – 98%
The school received a 10 out of 10 in the GreatSchools rating system.
Nice work! You can see more pictures of Muse here:
http://www.coalcampusa.com/westpa/pittsburgh/muse/muse.htm
Muse is a town?!?!?!? WHOOT! Perfect place for Mostly Harmless headquarters, and it looks like there are almost more Musers on this website than inhabitants in that town. (no offense intended) We can go and frighten them away with HPBs! And………….PIES! And more pies, and more and more and more and more…………
26- Perfect! That will make the kids all the easier to bring into… musedom? What would be the right word?
What about a Texas headquarters? It doesn’t seem to be too many TX MBers, but still, every state must have one so we can expand our reach of Mostly Harmless. *evil snicker*
What about a Texas headquarters? It doesn’t seem to be too many TX MBers, but still, every state must have one so we can expand our reach of Mostly Harmless. *evil snicker* GAH! My computer keeps saying duplicate comment! Urg………
There should be a Kokonvention in Muse over the summer. Definately. Again…would the place be BIG enough?
26- It reminds me of the town in October Sky (a movie that takes place in a small, coal mining town for those who don’t know).
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I would not be able to make it to a Kokonvention there though. I live on the other side of the US, in California.
30- if you live in the dallas area, muse OK is is about 2 hours away. It’s almost in texas AND Arkansas
34- I live 2 hours from Dallas, so that probably wouldn’t work.
3
No no no!I did not mean to just send “3”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I meant “33” I was going to say that yes, Sir Robin, it does remind me of October Sky. Sorry!!!!!!!
I have an idea! Let’s all get the address to the mayor’s office and send a bunch of admiring letters to the town!
*just a random thought*
34- yes, but the Dallas area is near the top of the state. And I am further south. And would not be willing to drive more than half an hour anyway. Which might make it hard, as all of the nearby cities are at least an hour away.
Blackberries are not fun. At least I can see the pics. And there’s automatic capitalization.
It’s a sign! In the picture on the main page, there are (drumroll, please) GUARDRAILS!!!!!!!! It is truly a sign that we can, and will…I don’t know. But it is a sign.
OMGY!! Guardrails!!
Is it a strong- or weak-post W-beam, do you think?
Gosh, Robert, why couldn’t you have gotten a better picture of the guardrail? You’re making this difficult. It looks like it’s kind of short…
The Ws look like they have soft edges like in the weak-post, but it’s hard to tell.
Any memory of whether the Ws had pointy ridgy things on them, Robert?
are there any muses in any other states? it seems like it should be easy to find that information online but i’m not sure where. It wouldbe cool if there was one in california.
45- I seriously doubt it. cuz I think thats where they found out about the other muses
girr…I found out how far Muse is and I even live in PA! It is about 308 miles from my house. If the KoKovention Calls me there I shall go! I can’t believe muse is in my state. Though it is far away I can’t believe it! Class is almost over so Bye now!
I could probably make it to a kokonvention. That would be awesome.
I think it is a weak post w beam guardrail. It looks kind of rounded and there appears to be plenty of room to slow down if you were to crash through the guardrail.
and who said gradrails were to geeky for muse!
I’m about 15 miles away from Muse, Pennsylvania. Let’s have a Kokonvention there!
I vote we place our headquarters there and proceed to take over the world.
ooh! me has guardrails! me must pass 3 dif. types (as well as three cattleguards) in order to get to town!
*box rail
*strong post w
*weak post w
i think their weak posts, myself. just cuz it seems like it wouldn’t be life threatening for the car to slide more.
I want to go to a Kokonvention if there is one in Muse, PA!!! I live in PA so, that would be AWESOME!!!! And if we just happen to set up our Mostly Harmless Plot/Plan there, well, that’s an extra bonus. Hehe..
Oooooo, we should make a list of people who might be able to go!
People Who Can/Might Be Able To Come
Purple Panda
THF
kricket
Violetfire
Goddess of Chaos
violindino
Ebeth (???)
Okay that’s it for now, I think! BUT IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF WE COULD HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
I think Kiki The Great may be coming to Pittsburgh sometime, but I have no idea when.
Okay then!
Kricket – but don’t you live really far from Muse? You’re near Philadelphia, as I recall. It may take you 4-6 hours to get here.
Panda- It’s not that far! Trust me, I probably could… Well, then again, my parents wouldn’t like that… Why can’t we ever meet somewhere I can get to??? *pouts*
If you can talk your parents into it, this weekend would be good, because most people have Monday off because of MLK day. So it would be a longer weekend. Let me know.
Lets all move to Muse PA. Then we can create a total town of Musers, taking over PA, and eventually the US then The WORLD!!!!
I think it’s a good idea. We could also take all our Wungs and Hot Pink Bunnies with us. I think they might be outlawed in other states.
But OMG, I must go to Muse PA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone goes there, they must wear a HPB sticker. So other musers can recognize them.
Well, you certainly wouldn’t have much trouble overrunning the town. I’m not sure it’s big enough to hold all of us.
Midnight Fiddler – where do you live? (state). I live about 15 miles away from Muse, so I can go ANY TIME!!!! SQUEE!!!
Plan:
-All musers, through concerted effort of begging and whining, arrange to move to Muse
-Using various pointy things, we force the good townspeople to run away.
– Excepting all muse-age kids, who will be recruited
-We will turn the town into MUSE ACADEMY, ad the houses into dorms
-From our stronghold, we will execute MOSTLY HARMLESS
Maybe we should brainwash the townspeople instead. What if they run away and go off to tell the police of us and our pointy things?
We’ll need some kind of shiny object and a string to attach it with and voila! Your very own hynotizing brainwasher thinga majig. I think.
But we lloooovvvvveee the pointy things!!! xD
No, Hypnotism is much less illegal. Which is always a plus…
Or, we could be nice to the the people who live in Muse, and then explain about Mostly Harmless and Muse and all. I bet they would follow us willingly. They could join us in our insanity!
I looked up Muse on Mapquest arial veiw and it’s extremely tiny. It looks about as large as my former subdivision=really small.
I think Muse, Oklahoma, is even smaller.
But Muse, Pennsylvania is SOOOOO much better. Mainly because IT IS ONLY 15 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE I LIVE!!! Squee!
So whenever someone’s going to Muse…let me know.
61~ I live in MD. And some friends in Pittsburgh, maybe I could cadjole my parents into taking me there!
Oh, and 60, we could always expand the town a bit…..
Nice. Really nice. I see a lack of statues, though.
Whose statues would you recommend?
68 – cool! How far away from Muse do you live?
70-The GAPA statues, huge 15-feet tall marble masterpieces…
Or maybe statues of the Muses.
72 – GAPAS and Muses. And everyone on MB.
. This was a mining town, so we could get the rock from there, excpet it probably wouldn’t be marble.
Coal sculpture? I suppose it’s possible.
74 – Maybe…….Somehow………. alright, I admit that I forgot it mined coal.
Oh well, we’ll work it out somehow.
How about statues of the GAPAs along near those signs that say “Welcome to (insert city name here)!” Then statues of the muses outside the stronghold and statues of the musers outside their dorms. Hmmm….. what about hpb statues and wung statues. We can’t forget those.
And pictures of Museicalifornia?!?!?
Hey those photos r pretty cool!
Muse, PA is the best place for a Kokonvention (*smiles innocently*), especially because it’s only 15 miles away from me! Can anyone else possibly make it to Muse?
uh madison WI isnt far is it?
*TWO CRUST PIE*
Lucky I live here free boarding for the Kokonvention
82 – You live in Muse? Cool!!
Are you new to MB? If you are, welcome! *pie*
82- That’s awsome!!
WAAAAAAAAAAAH! I want to come! But I can’t! So, anyway, I reckon that we should have museblog camps, where Musebloggers can meet other Musebloggers! Have some all over America, and some in exotic locations around the world! (Like somewhere near where I live … would Bath be okay? O.K, so it isn’t exactally exotic, but still….) It would be really cool to meet other Musbloggers, cause then we could have a clue what someone looks like when we are repling to their post! And we could invite all Musers, and then send all the non MuseBloggers home with hot pink bunnies with the URL inside! YEH!
82- Hey! GAPAs, how did that get through? Well, cool. I wonder if there is a Muse, Canada? *ponders*
The HAWK

86 – I was wondering the same thing!
So, can anyone come to Muse?!??!!?!?!?
Hmm, well, my mum wants me to visit the University of Pittsburgh. Or something like that. Either way, it’s in Pittsburgh, which is near Muse…
*plans start forming*
87 was actually my post. I forgot to change the name back after my sister was using my computer.
But, 88, that’s SO AWESOME!!! I went to the University of Pittsburgh Laboratory School for nine years, (GAPAs, I don’t go there anymore, so is that ok?) If you come, we have to meet! I live about 7 minutes away from Pitt.
85-Yes, yes, yes! I would beg my parents until they let me come. @_@
85 – Yeah. I find there’s a huge difference in how I think about a MuseBlogger if I know what they look like.
Sorry, can’t come to Muse…too far away.
I just looked-Ididn’t find any Muse Canada. ermumermumumumerumummmmmm…
The HAWK

91- Precisely! Since I don’t think that 8 people is enough for a really good kokonvention, so we will put them in random places around the world. And America. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
93 – Maybe people could send in photos of themselves and the GAPAs could post them on a “MuseBlogger Photos” thread. Have you seen the pictures of Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan? Click here if not. https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=610
Can anyone come to Santa Rosa? (This isn’t where I live, but it’s close enough I could go there.)
Hi everyone just wanted to ley you know that the dayschool was actually a firearms dealer called the gunrunner but as you can see I don’t think we had enough Musers to keep it in business.
95 – So you live in Muse? (How the GAPAs let that through, I have no idea). What is it like? Do you want to have a Kokonvention? (I live really close)
We assumed that Museboy meant that he lived in the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area. If we’re wrong, our mistake.
Does anyone still post here? Well they should. Neh.
Anyways, maybe sometime this summer or on a weekend sometime I could get my parents to drive me out to Muse, PA. I know, I know, it’s 4-6 hours or so away but… still. I’d have to get a map out and look to be sure. It shouldn’t take that long. We’re not that close to Philidelphia. I don’t think so, at least. Hmmm… Sorry for my lack of knowledge of distances/locations/etc. but… I’d have to see how far away it is. I might be able to get there.
Yes! Any time you can come (except the end of June through the end of July), THF and I can also come to Muse!!
kay.
Okay, maybe I’ll come at like the beginning of June or somethin’.
Okay this thread is pretty much dead.
Pennsylvania was the 2nd state of the United StatesBrought to you by Random Useless Trivia, or RUT. Call 123-4567 for more information.
Yes! ‘T was the 2nd state! And Philadelphia was the capital for a long time.
Fort Pitt was in Pittsburgh, at the meeting of the three rivers (or, as we know it, “The Point.”) It’s just a few blocks from my school, and they’re rebuilding it! They are digging up where Fort Pitt was, and they are building a replica! And here’s the cool part: they’re still digging now, but they made the contruction people stop, because they were finding hundreds of artifacts from Ft. Pitt. So now there are all sorts of archeology people there.
.

. this is a link
WOW! I just found this. There’s a Muse PA? Wow.
No kidding!
Beavo – I was just there today, with Robert!
108-Really? OHMYGOSH *wanted to go*
Whoa.
I was just looking at the google map Robert linked to above.
Who else loves studying these maps? They’re really cool. From what I can see, “Muse” contains many newish housing developments and not many large buildings or especially densely built areas. I see no water tower, but I’m not looking as closely as I have at my own town’s map. There are obviously High Tension Lines very close to town. Did you see those from the ground, Robert? Hey, we should take pictures there and see if Google would use them for the street view
They only have that option in a few places in the world so far…
Red-tailed HAWK

my whole family is from muse, it ain’t too bad. It’s just boring. It is a hick mining town. the saying goes, “no use, go to muse”
How about you come to Muse, Pa and try to take over. I am ready and waiting for you my friends.
Here is my face Musers…
there are 299 others just… like…me.
Mwahahahahahaha….
This is MUSE!! This is our Militia!
