  17. (10) ladygaladriel, the car bumper is mine, which HAWK saw when I was visiting in June. I do indeed have an actual Muse Academy bumper sticker, purchased from our online shop, Musery Loves Company. The one in the picture was digitally affixed, because mine is too faded and too small to show up well in the graphic. I also had to shift the Muses around a little in order to add the “My child is an honor student” line.

  20. Armada (17 piepoints) says:

16-Well, since everyone is smart, you’d have to be much smarter than a normal honor student to be an honor student at MA. Either that, or almost everyone would be an honor student, so it wouldn’t really mean much if you said that you were an honor student.

A question of my own: If everyone at MA is an honor student, do they need to say that they’re honor students? Because, basically what the term means is that you’re smarter than most of the other students at your school. If everyone is as smart as you are, you’re not an honor student, because to be an honor student, you have to be smarter than everyone else.

Doctor Who is a British TV show produced by the BBC. The Doctor is an alien time traveler, a Time Lord, one of the last of his race. His nemisis are daleks (exterminate!) which (according to the intro info I got from someone) are mostly his nemisis because he keeps annoying them. He can regenerate (read: excuse to have different actors play him if one leaves the show. There have been ten Doctors so far I think. He usually has some sort of companion because it is lonely being the Doctor. He travels in a Tardis (or is it TARDIS, I’m not sure) which outwardly appears to be a blue phone booth. I know someone here at college who has a paper on her door that looks like a Tardis. it is great.

My sleep schedule is seriously messed up right now. Yesterday I fell asleep from 1pm-5pm, mostly because I wasn’t feeling well. Then, the extra four hours of sleep I’d already had, plus my desire to read the three Twilight books I had to read now that I finally had a chance to, meant that I didn’t get to sleep until 6am. Yes. 6am. And I finished both New Moon and Eclipse in that time period, thank you very much.

So, anyways, when I finished Eclipse I decided that I had better get some sleep, because I assumed that my mom would be waking me up in a few hours to go to the Labor Day pancake breakfast out at the lake like we’d been planning, and I’d much rather have two hours of sleep then none. Luckily for me, though, my parents decided that I just wasn’t feeling well (true) and decided to go without me. I didn’t wake up until noon.

Well, tomorrow I’m going on the first day of school field trip for a small school that some friends have (as in, it’s their school). We’re going to a water park. Apparently “waer park” means something totally different in Wisconsin than it does in Maryland. In Maryland what I take it to mean is a place with lots of rides, like roller coasters that go through the water.
Here they seem to think that it means to go to a lake. Makes sense, really. Around here when someone asks where you live/are staying they ask it as in “what lake are you near?” I feel so weird here. Even though I do love WI, it’s just not the same as home.

    75~ Probably a good thing.

I’ve discovered that when walking alone in town it is much easier to put on the persona of “yes, I know where I’m going and why. Even if I look like a total freak I’m not so stop staring” if I’m drowning out most of the excess noise with an iPod. Easier to ignore people if you don’t have to hear ’em. *is still a country bumpkin* Hmm, maybe this’ll be good for my “acting skills”. I love being dramatic, so why not use it in a practical situation? I still don’t like being in town, although it’s getting easier.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I’ve not really read the blog that much, urgh, many posts and new threads since I was here all of two days ago. I’ll catch up. Eventually. Maybe. Whatever.

So, as you can see, I’m no longer totally depressed about being in Wisconsin, altough the situation I’m in is largely the same. Only better, the library is open again. That’s a good thing. Way good.

I’m also having a hard time focusing today. I was really tired earlier and never really did get caught up on that, I was running on a root beer float high for a bit, but now I’m crashing again. Maybe I won’t try to go all the way around the lake. Never mind, I might go to the park later and read Canterbury Tales in the swing set. If they have a swing set, I can’t remember.
Whatever. Maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll see if I can find anything on tv that isn’t Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers or spongebob. Eew.

86- Hurricane: My area (Up near NYC) hasn’t been hit hard since 1938, so we’re waiting for the overdue catastrophe. I’m kind of sad about that, and the fact that if global warming rises sea level any I’ll be underwater. I can see why it’s silly to build on the water, especially directly in the dunes, like those rich people over on the East End. But I’ve also decided that, paradoxically, I don’t think I could live away from the water.
    So I need a houseboat.

Google Chrome: Google’s new cutting edge browser.
I’ve just begun to try it out, but I’m using it right now, and it is very interesting. They’ve turned tabs into something on a whole new level of interactivity, and although it’s still in Beta, anyone of you could use it. I can’t wait to see some sort of Firefox Chrome hybrid baby that has all the stability and addons of Firefox, with the new breakthrough design and possibility of Chrome. There’s also a comic online that explains how they’ve made it much more crash proof.
Bonus: Remember the shrinking comment box escapade? In chrome, you can change the size of the box!

Soccer practice today! Yay! Sadly, I strained my leg muscle. And even worse it’s my left leg. I strained it while playing soccer at school. We play all out soccer. No referee. Fouls every three second, no one cares, handballs, no one cares. So, I was with the ball, jumping over unintentional fouls, slides, and fallen people, and all of a sudden, this kid in front of the goal, he shoved me, my foot slipped on the ball, and I just avoided a broken leg. He didn’t even know how to play soccer, and he intentionally fouled me. Luckily, there haven’t been any really serious injuries. I’ve prolly gotten the worse of them, being the goalie and mid-field. There is this one kid who can do a bicycle kick. It’s insanely awesome. Another punted it out into the field (we get about 1/16 of the size to play soccer on during recess) and it went all the way into the creek.

I had an okay day. The entire school went to a nearby natural area and hung out all day to celebrate the end of the first 6 days of school. Then we got back to school, where each team dressed up in their costumes (my team wore lab coats and colored safety goggles) and went to the gym for fear factor. It was so disgusting. They had to eat pig’s feet (!!!), horseradish shakes, and Spam/Sardine sandwiches. Yuck.

Then, my friend S (who got second), got some of the Spam sandwich stuck in her braces. Double yuck.

Oh, and there was a dance after that, but it was absolutely awful. It was 10 minutes long, and they played a total of three songs: Thriller, I Like Big Butts, and some song I had never heard of.

Well, lets see, what have I been up to? *thinks* Okay.
I did not go to the water park, instead I went to Old World Wisconsin with my Mom (who got the day off because her brother took grandma into Madison instead).
Yesterday I mostly sat around the house and was bored. Mom went to a friend’s house that evening to see some of her high school pals and grandma and I went to the session at the Irish pub. Mom convinced her that it most likely wasn’t going to be a bunch of people getting as drunk as they possibly could, instead it was just to play music, so she relented (although her first reaction was, “Eew Fern, you don’t actually want to go to a bar?!?!?!?!?!?!”).
I did play, and it was fun. :D :D

So, how’s life with you? I am, at present, unhappy.
I just walked two miles for absolutely nothing. I thought I was going to be able to go to the library, but it was closed. Another walk back. Grr. I shouldn’t say nothing though, I gained being totally sweaty and now know that the library closes early today and tomorrow. Grr again.

Once a page was found in the torah and vertically, horizontally and diagonally they found the passages “The Towers” “Bin Laden” “they will be crumbled” and “2001” in the same page. The people who found this also found pages that state that Hussein was hiding WMDs in the Beq’aa Valley in Lebanon and also that the world will end in 2012 when a comet hits the earth. Its total bullcrap, of course, but its kind of interesting.

In other news, my family in Baton Rouge, LA have no power and a tree fell on top of the house next to them. My grandparents live in New Orleans and went to stay with them during Gustav, and when they got back, it turns out that their house suffered no damage and that they would probably have a better state of living if they had just stayed in New Orleans- which is pronounced New Orlins, by the way. ATTENTION ALL SEEKING JOBS IN MUSEICA AND ZEMTEE: NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!

    MUSEICA

Museica is a nation in the “Muse World”. We have created a form of government and a Constitution. We run the country and solve problems that arise.

The Nation is divided into Nine provinces named after the Muses. Each is run by a Governing Muser (GM). We need to elect 6 new Governing Musers, one for each of: AEIOU, Bo, Crraw, Feather, Mimi, and Pwt.

There are three Prime Musers (PMs) who look after national matters. We currently have all three of those positions filled.

There are three Chief Justices, or CJs. We need to elect all three.

And there’s the House of Commons (HoC), of which every citizen excepting those who hold one of the above positions is a member. The HoC creates and votes on laws.

If you would like a position, submit your request on the Museica thread (Click here) and you will be put on the ballot for the next election.

    ZEMTEE

Zemtee is a nation of sorts in the “Muse World”. Here we also have a form of government and a Constitution, and we also run the country and solve problems that arise.

In Zemtee, there are Nine Great Chiefs, Nine Governing Chiefs, and 3 Chief Justices. All positions are empty, and we need people for the House of Commons as well. All interested please head to the Zemtee thread (Click here)

So basically, here in [snip] we didn’t get a summer, remember? We sat around wearing wool sweaters with the heat turned on in late August, and didn’t go swimming even once. But now that school has started and condemned everyone between the ages of five and eighteen to spend seven hours every day indoors, we get a whole week of glorious sunshine. It’s sort of like Indian Summer, only minus the regular summer.
But I like it, even though it’s late. :)

Anyway, I made good my housesitting prediction, or part of it. I didn’t fall asleep on the couch, but I did spend about four hours watching Hornblower episodes. It’s so nice to see them on a regular screen. YouTube is so pixely.

    Hey.
I actually got to see Grandpa yesterday, he said it was okay for me to come to the hospital, so I did go. I’m glad I could, it was hard not being allowed.
Better news, he’s home today! They picked him up and he’s home now. I just came here for a little bit because I assume he’s going to be resting, and Grandma doesn’t need me underfoot. I carried everything in from the car, helped out with what I could, and now I’m out of the way.

    So, that’s pretty much all.
Umm, and I played my concertina for the first hymn in Sunday school, but that’s not really that exciting. We got a message last night at 11 that if I wanted to bring an instrument to play one of the hymns that would be great, so this morning I practiced for a few minutes and brought it, three flats was not going to go over well with the fiddle, sorry.

Ugh, I’m tired. Way tired, I got to bed sometime after midnight, I don’t really know when, and then had to get up early-ish for church and took a walk with a friend and now I’m just tired in general and all the noise on the playground is bugging me this is a really horrible run-on sentence so I’ll stop now, and by the way- alphabet soup isn’t very good cold.

I don’t have time to read the entire thread, nor thoughtfully comment on everyone’s posts, but I just wanted to share something:

I have been riding my bike to school this year. I have to wake up a 1/2 hour earlier, but it’s definitely worth it. Just getting outside early in the morning is a really fantastic way to start the day, and everything is just so quiet, happy, and nature-ful, even if you live in a very urban area, like me.

I would recommend riding a bike to school to EVERYONE. I live 8 miles away from school, and a ton of gigantic hills lie between my house and school, but the exercise is really great. It takes me 40 minutes. If I took the bus, it would take me 30 minutes. (It depends on which bus, though. The 30-minute bus only comes in the morning, so in the afternoon I take a different bus and it takes over an hour because it doesn’t take the busway.)

Here are some suggestions for others who might want to bike:

    1. Get a rack or a crate or something to put on the back of your bike. They’re easy to attach, and can carry backpacks, etc. My bike has a rack on the back, and I bungee-corded a crate to it. My backpack is usually around 30 pounds (yes, I weighed it), so this helps a lot. Beware, though, you must keep your weight balanced near the back of the bike to account for all of the weight of the backpack.

    2. Get a light and/or reflectors. I leave my house at 6:30 am. This week, it has been relatively light outside, but since the sun is still rising, I use lights. It will just continue to get darker as the weeks go by, so lights are important. A flashing red light is great for the back of your bike — you can attach it to your backpack or “crate,” and if you have reflector strips those will really help visibility and make you safer. A light in front helps, too, because it helps you see in the dark. And always wear a helmet.

    3. Your city/town/place of residence may have designated bike trails. It it does, try to utilize them. Even if it means you might have to bike a little farther to get to the trail, it will be much more fun to ride there than on streets. It’s also safer. When driving on streets, make sure you use hand signals for turning and always keep your eye on the cars. The majority of my ride is on really busy streets, and it’s especially important to ride carefully if it’s dark outside. When you’re riding on any street, stay at least two feet from the curb/edge of the road. If you’re riding in a particularly busy area, ALWAYS take up the entire lane. It’s very dangerous if you’re riding too close to the edge of the road — cars won’t give you enough room when passing you, and they could force you off the road, which leads to serious accidents.

….that’s really all I can think of right now, so I’m going to get back to my homework.

  217. Alice says:

216- Sweet, so do I! -virtual high five- I’m only 25 minutes away if I take the flat route, and the route that would otherwise be quicker isn’t since I have to walk up the hill that is our Town. But it’s like, four miles, so it’s really great. Also I leave at the same time as I would to catch my bus, but I get there about fifteen minutes later and I can leave school as soon as I get out, instead of waiting ages for the bus to get out (conversely, I can stay after school if necessary and not miss my bus).

    1. I have a bike basket which I put heavy books in sometimes, but usually I just wear my backpack. I would put a crate on the back, except that I just have a fender and I don’t want to break it. My basket’s pretty much huge anyways.

    2. Wow. I haven’t yet experienced riding in the dark (I leave at 7:15), but tomorrow I have auditions which could go on for a while so tonight I’m going to install a light on the back. And yes, I wear a helmet.

    3. We do have a trail, which is nice and flat, but of course it’s not a bike trail only, and it takes a longer time and at one point you have to get off and walk so as not to get your bike stuck in the cracks of the pier. Not to mention the railway tracks. And all the old people walking their dogs. But it’s more fun than riding on the road anyway, and of course it’s against the law to ride on the sidewalk. However, on the highway, there aren’t any bike lanes, and it feels dangerous enough on the sidewalk, so I never ever ever ever bike in the street. On the side streets, I bike, and try to obey the rules that I don’t know. I always mix up my hand signals and generally come away feeling like a menace to the public. Plus, in order to not go against the flow of traffic, you generally have to go up at least one hill, often very steep and lacking in a sidewalk. What are we supposed to do THEN? Walk in the street? Or bike on the sidewalk? It doesn’t seem fair to me that pedestrians have their own path, and cars have their own path, and bikes are only allowed on the cars’ path, which is VERY DANGEROUS especially if you’re too young to have read the driver’s manual.

I’m sorry. Very sensitive subject. I’m going to put on some nice warm socks now and do my homework.

Very funny story, do not read if you have liquids in your mouth:
Today my English teacher showed us the three plants he keeps in his classroom. He named them Tilda, Igor and Benjarmin. He says that they are indestructable because this was the first time he’d watered them since June and they were still green. Last year their vines grew halfway around the classroom on string loops hanging from the ceiling, but they stopped growing because they were growing away from the light. One vine stopped right under the Gumby toy that my teacher displays on his chalkboard.
    His exact words:
“They turned back because they were afraid of Gumby. One night, Pokey jumped on the vines and beat them up.”

222- Bike both ways. It really gives you a lot more flexibility. You don’t have to rely on your parents to drop you off at the right time, for one thing. Biking is a lot faster then walking, and while nothing is more relaxing than a nice long walk (well except for curling up in front of a fire with a book :D ), if you add a backpack or inclement weather, one’s desire to be home increases dramatically. Or at least mine does. Plus biking is cooler and more independent.

Anyway, I think I offended someone in Global Studies today… We had this assignment, which was to look at four topics (Global Warming, Abortion, Gay Marriage, and War) through the eyes of the four worldviews (Secular Humanism, Cosmic Humanism, Communism, and Christianity). We were doing this in groups of four.* Anyway, there were three of us who all basically agreed on the topics, and then this other girl, who was Christan, pro-life, and anti-gay marriage. We got along all right, I guess, until we got to Abortion, when she said “All life is precious” or something like that, and I tried to convince her of the horrors of factory-raised animals, and if all life is precious why does she eat factory-farmed meat, eggs, and milk?**
So yes. I hope I didn’t offend her too dreadfully.

    * I feel that four is an important number in Global Studies. Did I tell you about the four key questions?
**I eat meat, eggs, and milk too, but all from small local farms.

252~ I have the one that is yellower. the large printing shows up well, because it has darker lines around, but after “the Lady Bunniful and Master Paul of Swinford” it’s hard to read, and that one can only get of they’re standing close and squinting a bit. The small wording isn’t as important, so it doesn’t really matter, but it would be nicer if it was a little darker. I love the drawings though, and they’re placed nicely, not in, umm, the wrong places, if y’know what I mean? Which is nice.
The design as a whole is nice and balanced and falls in a nice place on the shirt, it is light enough to not be really stark, but clear enough to be seen. the “Mostly Harmless” and “Muse Academy” ones are great, but I’ve noticed they fall a little low and are hard to see, at least on my girls’ shirts because of where they fall and how they fit it just doesn’t work as smoothly as it could. I’m not sure that you can control that though, can you? If so, maybe put those designs just a little higher, just half and inch would do.

I liked my teacher, and all the kids in my class worked just perfectly together, I mean, everyone was supportive of each other. And we just all had fun with it. And, I mean, I’m awful at athletics. I must be the slowest runner in my grade and it’s not because I’m over weight or anything, because I’m not. My feet tend to go in, which effects my physical performance. Of course, I found that I didn’t have to be a good athletic in that class. Any liability I had was made up for with determination.
