LadyGaladriel asks:
What exactly are the types of points?
Who can give out what points?
Do you have to have points on your blognickname to be able to give them out?
Can you make your own points?
What do the different types of points mean?
Why are you awarded points?
To which we would add: What exactly is the point of points?
Concerned neophytes and GAPAS want to know!
LadyGaladriel asks? I do too!!!! So…. Yeah. Basically, everything asked above.
the point of points: Points are merely name adornment…
What exactly are the types of points? Wung Points, Spdzk Points, Brain Points, PiePoints.
Who can give out what points? Anyone who has them.
Do you have to have points on your blognickname to be able to give them out? No, if you possess them, but choose not to display them, then you can still give, but if you don’t have any points, you can’t give any.
Can you make your own points? Not really. I created Brain Points a while back, but now the Brain Point dealers have been rather inactive.
What do the different types of points mean? Not much, Wung points, for instance, are awarded by Wungs.
Why are you awarded points? If you ask for them, people may give them or not give them.
I’ll leave the rest to other MBers.
So, ZVX, if you don’t have points you can’t give points, but if you have points and you give points to someone else, are you giving them points out of thin air or are you giving them your own points? Or, more clearly, when you give points to someone, do you have less points afterward?
About Brain points: I did ask you about them a while ago on the Neophytes thread, but I don’t know if you saw that or not.
And…. yeah. About Muszey points. Eragon apparently made them up and gave some to me, but I don’t know whether that’s legal or not, so I guess I can take them out of my name until I know.
“Concerned neophytes and GAPAs want to know!” Not just GAPAs and ‘phytes–I must confess that, despite being one of the senior and longish-term MBers, I know nothing of these mysterious points! (I think they came about during one of my long absences from the blog…..)
Eragon gave me 30 Muszey points on the HP trivia thread a while back….so they’re not legit points? *sniffsniff*
I am a neophyte- I still have no clue about these points. How exactly does one get them? Can I have some?
2: “Can you make your own points? Not really.” Well, for there to be any points, somebody had to have made them–it’s not like they just appeared out of thin air! Or maybe they did *runsawayinterror*
(2) I believe wung points — and maybe some other point varieties as well — are actually awarded in the course of the game of Paker. Many Paker participants append their scores to their blog names, thereby adding to the cathassus, as might be expected from the governing ethos of the game.
For anyone who is not familiar with MuseBlog’s contribution to applied Calvinball methodology (category: card games), see the Muse Academy Lounge for the current round, or The Hare and Hedgepig No. 2 where it all began. I’m certain a quick review of those threads will
clarify nothingprove enlightening.7-*takes a look* Well, that cleared things up.
6-Well, yes, but probably they were created at the start of MB, so they’re the established set of points.
5-I don’t know. I’d just play it safe for now, or until someone who actually knows everything there is to know about points (aka nobody) tells us what to do.
Actually, points are a fairly recent addition to the blog. POSOC pioneered them last November by inventing spdzk points. Earlier in MuseBlog history, GAPAs and others occasionally used to award one another “bunny points” in exchange for special favors, but it was all in fun, and nobody kept track of them. Nowadays virtual choklit has taken over that function.
In any case, none of the various point systems has any official standing here. The Administrators didn’t create them and don’t sanction, record, or enforce them.
9-I see. Who invented the rest of them?
(8) POSOC later explained why he created them:
(10) Well, Red-tailed HAWK instituted Piepoints last December (though Purple Panda had proposed informal “pie points” as counterparts to bunny points three months earlier). KaiYves invented brain points this June. Eragon invented Muszey points last month. And that’s all I’m going to look up. Points don’t interest me much.
Points, they bore me, really.
12- Gim gave a point to some one (I think C++) on The pie war for niceness, and Kag points were flouting aroud, From R&R, I think.
I’m not sure WHO to blame for this. I want to blame POSOC, But then agian, I could have won all of them, and this wouldn’t be happening. La Mort maybe? no, as see only got 70, and didn’t spread them for awhile. Rt-H, I blame. pie points are worthless, and the only resoen he made them was to be fair to every one.
(14) I wonder if spdzk points would have remained afloat if La Mort hadn’t incorporated the 70 into her name, thereby reminding others of their existence.
I don’t really like points or the concept of points. I just don’t think it’s very MuseBlog-like, although I have no actual reasoning behind that.
I have blogging points, which are the best type of points possible. I think amanda has too many points.
What are blogging points? If you get one each time you blog, I have about 35!
No, they are points that are awarded to you after trust Kokopelli gives you some.
Spdzk points were a social experiment. Why blame me for how far they spread? I simply introduced them. I didn’t keep any, nor did I seek them out after the first few weeks.
POSOC, that was an amazing experiment. You managed to get MB to get all worked up, and even to start a thread on, merits that don’t have any relevance. However, people have thought that they are superior to one another just because they have this points or that points. To the people who think that they are “playing the grand piano” just because they have imaginary ranking, GET A CLUE AND GET A LIFE!
I proposed Pie Points???? *clicks links*
Oh, that. That idea was for the actual school and never intended to be counted on the blog, as the points are for houses, and not individual people.
Personally, I don’t like points. I think POSOC’s experiment was interesting, but now all of the points are just annoying, and make people’s names ridiculously long.
Can someone give me some points?
In defense of my name, have you tried to keep track of a Paker game after the first few rounds? I have to constantly update a complicated diagram just to keep on track.
I only really confused spdzk points and pie points to be “real”, as well as wung points (but only for Paker). That’s probably just me, though.
Me wants a few points. I won my Brain Points by answering a trivia question…
Points? Who cares? I got some spdzk points back at the beginning, but I can’t remember how many. I got bored with them and would have dropped them from my name except that someone else showed an interest, so I passed them on. Later I had my Paker points in my name, but then I dropped Paker. I’ve sort of learned to ignore the whole points thing. I don’t like them, but I don’t dislike them. So whatever.
-wanders off-
24 – Here, have some virtual choklit. And 5 invisible THF-Sympathy points, of which there is an infinite number.
Points confuse me too much. They are annoying too. ‘Phytes just randomly ask to have points, and woosh! You have em. In a lot of threads I see, there are at least one “What are pie points?” and then “Can I have some?” with nothing else.
27 – I completely agree with you on every part of that.
18- Fasinating. I never blamed you. I wish I had gottten the 100 points, as then you thing would have failed.
It also shows why you started it on science.
I think I have a cople of points.
Yeah, names are getting too long now. All of the points in people’s names are sort of irritating. It was okay when it was just spzdk points, but now they’re weird.
Yeah, but I REALLY WANT SOME POINTS!!!
Points can go unnamed. I have 20 wung points, and yet no one ever sees them.
Can the GAPAs dictate a rule that forbids all points except those of the spdzk variety? Thank you.
31 – Spdzk points could be excluded too, for all I care.
(31, 32) We prefer to keep MuseBlog’s rules few and necessary. This issue doesn’t strike us as weighty enough to bend that policy.
There are not a set number of brain points. If somebody offers a set number of brain points in exchange for a correct answer to a trivia question, the person who answers it correctly gains them.
What if we just all agree that we won’t have points in our names anymore? They don’t really serve a purpose.
Points are kind of annoying, but we shouldn’t be forced to give them up. However, I do think people should drop them from their names. I understand it’s hard to keep track of them if you’re playing paker; perhaps you can c+p them on the bottom of all your posts. As for points outside of Paker, well, if you really need them that much, then keep track of them in a word document or something.
36 – Yeah, I like that idea. Paker players can just put their points at the bottom of their posts on the H&H thread.
17-I have too many points? ARE YOU KIDDING? Have you seen some people’s names? “Kokonilly (600 piepoints, 70 spdzk points, 130 wung points….” She eventually got tired of typing them in, but some people still have REALLY long names.
I don’t think that we should drop the points. Maybe people should stop inventing new ones since it gets confusing after a while, and we can have some system of code which makes our names shorter. Like, 100p instead of 100 piepoints. Or something.
WUNG points are = Wps
Spzdk points = sps
Piepoints are = pps
Brain points are Bps
Blogger points are BLps
39: What about Muszey points? Not that I’m adding my 30 to my name, just curious.
Oops! How the cake did I forget my own?? = Mzps
I was amused by this idea at first, but I got too many. So whatever.
Cliff (31): Hey, that’s unnecessary censorship. Sure, you may not like them. But does that put you in a position to ban them?
39-Looks good. We should have that up on a board someplace. A virtual board.
So, let’s put it into effect immediately.
I think I gave Kokonilly 5 Punxsutawney Points some time back for guessing a reference that I had made. But that was because I said “5 points to whoever guesses this” as a joke. I didn’t realize that anyone would be demanding points from me.
45 – Yeah, you did. I still have it written on a “Notes” widget where I keep a running list of my points.
Oh, what the heck. Are we doing this or aren’t we?
3- well, I created BP a while ago. They’ve flourished with a little maintenance, so, yes, it is legal to create a point. However, please refrain from doing so. We have too many types of point now–BP was a new, fresh idea when I first coined them. Now, many bloggers, like Eragon, (no offense, Eragon. You’re still a fantastic blogger.) created new sorts of points. It didn’t work.
And you are not giving out points out of thin air, you are giving your own points, and you have much less of them, depending on the number. There’s one exception:
Everlasting BP. It means you can give them again and again, so they are very valuable. Everlasting BP are won by correctly answering four riddles.
38- Like me. I’ve been accumulating them for a long time.
“400 piepoints, 40 brain points, 7 everlasting BP…”
it’s a lot. Points don’t really mean anything, except that you got lucky at some point, or are a point manager.
You don’t have too many points “17 Piepoints, 100 Muszey points” is no small number, but some of us who have been getting points for ages have way more than we need. We recycle them by giving them to others.
36- Hmmm…you’ve always been a bit keen on points yourself, Fluffylump.
48-Okay, forget the Muszey points. No offense, Eragon, but I do agree that it gets confusing if there are too many kinds of points.
So where do you (where would I) get brain points? I heard somewhere that you get them on BA, but I don’t know if that’s true or not, and since BA is kind of closing down right now, it wouldn’t make much sense in the future.
Ok. I’ll keep 100 for myself. If you don’t mind…
I’m not trying to censor anyone’s points, but I think the points can be pretty annoying and don’t really serve any purpose. And, I mean, we can make rules that no new points can be made, but, honestly, they’ll be made anyways. Some might be made by neophytes that haven’t heard of the rule, or oldbies that choose to ignore it.
51-I think they’re fun. True, they don’t serve any particular purpose, but they are fun. And I don’t know about other people, but I don’t feel like they’re competitive. They’re just…. for fun.
Yes, I know nobody has said anything about competitiveness yet. But you were probably thinking it.
2- I believe you have forgotten KAG points which several fortunate individuals posses. people should totaly be able to make up thier own points, that’s how points started in the first place.
3/5-keep your points.
8- i’m pretty sure that points came into creation fairly recently. reading back to the beggining of the blog I am rather sure there is no mention of points.
21- here, have 11 KAGpoints.
31- why? it’s not a huge problem. points are just for FUN. I have given out KAGpoints about 3 times. I don’t think that’s really a problem of quantity or what evre is bugging you. i deffinitely think that allowing only one type of point is unfair. points are JUST FOR FUN. they don’t really mean anything.
seriously guys, what the cake is with everyone getting so worked up about points???????? I just read through this thread and it has gotten me all angry. thanks a lot. okay so points. They are just for fun. I see no point in banning them or forcing people to drop them from their names. THEY ARE JUST FOR FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for points being annoying. I don’t get this. how are they anoying? If you don’t enjoy the idea of points just ignore them. The thing about being angry with long names: what the cake? do you honestly reaad everybodys full name as you are reading post? I don’t. I read the first bit and skip over the points. IS THAT SO HARD TO DO???????? Are long names damaging the blog? no. so where’s the problem? I DON’T FREAKING UNDERSTAND WHY THIS MATTERS SO FREAKING MUCH??????? WHY DO YOU FREAKING WANT TO BAN POINTS?????? THEY ARE JUST FOR FUN. FUN. F-U-N. WE ARE ALL GETTING WORKED UP ABOUT NOTHING. NOTHING. POINTS ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FREAKING CAUSING YOU PHYSICAL HARM! okay. I’m sorry I will stop yelling now. I simply feel that acting as though having points on the end of your name is a crime is rather foolish. now let’s end this silly behavior and go back to just enjoying the blog.yes, incase you were wondering, this has gotten me rather angry. I will go cool of now.
48 – I’ve been accumulating for a while as well. 87 wung points from an old Paker game, 500 piepoints, 10 spdzk points, and 5 Punxstawney points.
I’m indifferent. I’m not okay with banning them, however, and I’d prefer they stayed. *leaves*
I have no points whatsoever! Whipee!
I decided to keep my points. I think Sympathy points are a good idea, for people who are feeling down. And hello? What about b-day points??
53-Exactly what I was trying to say. If maybe a little less forcefully.
55-You don’t? Whyever not? I mean, it seems like, right now at least, neophytes get at least a few piepoints within their first couple of weeks, and you certainly aren’t a neophyte.
56- I think virtual choklit covers the purpouse of sympathy points.
58 – Yup, I agree.
49- The BPs on BA and BA: TNG occasionally show up and sling out a random riddle.
55- Want seven BP? Here they are, if you want them.
53- Beautiful, Kagcomix! That was what people needed to hear.
60- Ah. I thought you got them by request. Like, you went to BA or BA:TNG and said ‘can I have a riddle?’ and then someone (usually) gave you a riddle and if you got it right then you got the Brain Points.
I have thirteen spdzk points, but I don’t usually put them in my name.
61- Yup. Except I’m the one who comes up with the riddle. I’m a Point Manager.
60- thanks. I’m glad you think so. I hope you also realized the irony (is that the right word?) in asking why everyone is getting worked up and then going on to shout. (I realized after I posted)
63 – Must it be on BA, though? It’s very random and strays away from the plot.
I’m either chosing this or this for my points- Magnolia points or Element points. With Element points I say, “Here, have a [insert random element here] Element point!”
63) May I have a riddle to solve? I don’t really need the points though.
there’s a pretty recent riddle on BA: TNG .
65- Well, random it may be, but it reminds people it’s not the end of the world.
68 –
Well, as it may be, I find it very distracting. Can you please take it to another thread? Maybe?
68) What number thingy is it?
Could you put it on this thread?
so excellent. I guess the whole points problem is solved! yay!
the name says it all
points are completely pointless and I think when people have to many types it makes the name too long, but with only “10 spkdz points” it is really fine, but if someone says “random name (20 Kagps, 10 spkdz pts, 4 wung pts, 24 BLps, 1 brain point)” that’s annoying
73- But, We have those points. what should we do with them?
73 – Yeah, I agree.
74 – Keep them in a Notepad document or something.
73/75- how is it annoying, you aren’t honestly implying that you read the full name. come on! no one reads more than the first bit. it’s no big deal the points thing. it’s not like someone makeing 10000 pointless posts as a pasttime.
Points are pointless? if there is a point of having points then there must be some point or they wouldn’t be points, they would be un-points. both points and un-points have a point, but un-points must be more pointless that point points. Who would put points in their name if the points didn’t have a point? The point of points is no point, so therefore points are points and yet they are also un-points because they don’t point in any certain point which makes them pointless but still real so they are not un-points. So,
WHAT
IS
THE
POINT?
Ohh no. Apparently we’ve gotten to the point where–AGH! I’M DOING IT MYSELF! *dies of hypocrisy*
There, I’m alive again. I believe it would be killing a large piece of blog culture to ban points.
Hmm. Old thread.
I wants point! How do I get them?
oohhh… dead thread! hshdjhjdfhjdfhjghdfhk. Thanks for your attention, folks!
noodle noodle
Goodness me. Pointless posts on a point filled thread.
79(small but fierce) Have some twisted evilpoints! *grins evilly* *produces “armful” of points*

We should have alter-ego points – you get 4 a-e points for every week your alter ego survives. So say I had one alter-ego that lasted a month and another that lasted 2 weeks – i would have 24 a-e points.
Hey, I got mentioned on this thread!
I have invented a new kind of points: Worthless Points. Worthless Points are the Calvinball of points. You can pull them out of thin air whenever you want to award someone points, and you can fine someone Worthless Points even if they don’t have any. You may add your amount of Worthless Points to your blogname, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be the real amount. You can just make up a random number, as Worthless Points are worth nothing.
And for inventing Worthless Points, I award myself 42 of them.
Fine, but let’s please not resurrect the practice of putting points in your name. It only leads to plagues, earthquakes, and general devastation.
And gnats. You can’t forget gnats.
I was lumping gnats and other infestations together under plagues. But you are so right.
Put flies in there, too. *loathes flies*
I hereby award Piggy and vanillabean each 3.1415926535897932384626433832 Plague Points. Use them wisely.
*toddles off to get head examined*
And homework.
Pi plague points? Pie plague points! Now that would be a plague. Hundreds of pies falling from the skies, meringue and crust covering every surface, clogging machinery, bringing civilization to a halt….
Kokopelli would love that.
Kokopelli would cause & continue that.
Yes, a true plague indeed.
Thanks! It fits in wonderfully with my name (not that I’ll put that in my name, it’s much too long!).
*worries* I think the plagues are arriving. There’s been a swarm of gnats around my computer for a few days now (after I mentioned gnats on the 16th). I don’t know where they’re all coming from.
I need points! They seem fun!
If I were to invent a type of points, they would be Post Points. You earn them by the amounts of first posts you get, and you lose them by then number of PoPos you have. I would have 0, because I had one first post and one PoPo.
I would have 1ï¼2 post points. I had 1 POPO and I was almost sure I got first post, but the admin. posted it to late.
That actually can’t happen. Comments post by timestamp from when they arrive in the queue. We could hold up a comment for hours or days and it would still show up in the thread according to the time it was submitted.
89.1:I didn’t really mean it that way. What I ment to say was that it looked as if I was going to get first post.
I think we should establish these rules for points.
1. Points can be given out by only people who have them, but they don’t lose any.
2. You can only give out the amount of points you have.
3. If you make a type of point you start with only one.(unless it is a type of point you earn such as post points)
4. Give out points only for a reason. Don’t just give someone 100 for no reason.
Does anyone agree with me?
People tryed to put rules to points before, but it didn’t really work.
Spambot exterminate!
