Reading, ‘Riting, ‘Rithmetic Randomness! Part 3

The third installment of this month’s Random Thread winds up with a hard-to-read symbol of back-to-school days of yore. Call it the 19th-century equivalent of a laptop.

interesting things around me and a question copy pasted from the last thread because it is at the end and I wanted people to see it.

A bracelet made of typewriter keys, a typewriter, (saved on my desktop) pictures of Khepri so R—— can make me and Stripes Khepri masks, a photo of me and Green, a copy of Juniper, Gentian and Rosemary, chocolate, my writing notebooks, my journal (I write in it every day.)

I love Green. She is a best friend of mine. Do you guys have a best friend like that? someone that understands you with few or no words? With whom you can talk for hours? I have two. I have Green and MG. I am lucky in this.

My Muse mags never come until at least the 15th or so of the month they are for. that said, my parents may get it around the 15th, but then it still has to be mailed from home to college, so i will probably get it about the time you are getting the Nov. issue (or is it Nov/Dec? I never can remember).

16- Robert’s is better. Here, I copied and pasted this from the MA blog-

    Q. How many MuseBloggers does it take to change a light bulb?

    A. Sixteen:

One to bring a ladder, stand on the bottom rung, and yell, “This light bulb is dead!”

One to make a Stupid Senseless Smiley Story about light bulbs that turn into hot-pink bunnies.

One to insist that the blog should install a compact fluorescent bulb to reduce its carbon footprint.

One to say that that’s not necessary, because global warming is a hoax.

One to wonder whether she should ask for a new light bulb or sit still and smile at one until it notices her.

One to post the 10,000-word opening chapter of a saga about the quest for the legendary Light bulb of Doom.

One to arrive with a new light bulb, climb the ladder, unscrew the old bulb, screw in the new one, descend, and leave.

One to dash up the ladder, touch the new bulb, and yell, “FIRST TOUCH!!!”

One to point out that that touch was pointless.

Three to splatter the new light bulb with welcome pies.

Three to stand there and laugh at all the others.

And, finally, a GAPA to log in an hour later and moderate the change so the light can come on.

    God, I love that joke.

So, random question…..Is the movie “Get Smart” any good? The are playing it on campus tonight, and I was trying to make up my mind as to whether I should go (or whether I should study)….I’m leaning towards going–it is, afterall, free to students, and there is also supposed to be free pizza (and it’s supposed to be pizza from a certain pizza place in town that is really good….I’ve been there at least twice now, and it is some of the best pizza I’ve had). Works for me, Robert….Free pizza is always a bonus. Is it worse than Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was? That movie wasn’t bad, but you had to completely suspend your disbelief (and I don’t just mean because of what the crystal skull belonged to…..). I mean, no way could you survive an atomic blast, even in a lead line refrigerator–he either would have been baked to a crisp from the heat or completely battered when it was catapulted so far, not to mention, if he had left the fridge when the mushroom cloud was still present, he would have been killed by radiation (not instantaneously, perhaps, but I doubt it would have taken too long). And the list goes on and on about all the unbelievable things…..starting with the first scene in the warehouse (if not earlier).

388 (last thread)- Thanks Kagy *accepts choklit* at least one person cares. It just seems this is what I get for being the middle child. It’s always what they say on TV reports and stuff about childbirth order “the middle child usually is the one that feels neglected” before for my entire life, I hadn’t felt like the middle child, more like the youngest (which I partly am), but now I realize I really am ignored :( My mom can’t really support me in my activities, because she is too busy with my sisters’, and no one really misses me at any meal. I don’t even get yelled at, I’m just ignored, which makes me feel worse. When I play my guitar, my sister randomly decides to practice her ‘all important cello’ at the same time, so I have to either stop, or go in some dark corner and play where no one can hear me. When I am asleep and my alarm clock doesn’t go off, no one bothers to wake me. [/rant again]

34~ Being an only child, I can’t say that I’ve been in your shoes, but I am sorry that you’re feeling left out and ignored. Maybe ask your parents for a bit of time with them alone, to explain that you feel that you are not getting the support you need from them, and that you need more attention, maybe ask them for a few even a few minutes every day to talk about what’s going on on your life at that time.
Just my idea, since I don’t have any experience with siblings. By the way, aren’t you a twin? And how many other siblings do you have? If both your parents work and you’re all involved in lots of activities (and it sounds like you are) they may just be trying to keep their heads above the proverbial water….just a thought.
Do ask for some time alone with them, when you won’t be interrupted and they’re fairly un-stressed about things.

  46. Luna the Lovely says:

Well, I went to the movie…..And I must say, Robert, you are absolutely right. Get Smart definitely is not a very good movie. On the bright side, I got three [free] slices of pizza! As far as the movie went, there were a total of three funny scenes, the rest was basically just, “Seriously, since when is people being utterly stupid, funny?” Come to think of it, I forgot what the second of the three funny scenes was, so it must not have been that funny…..

I walked over for the pizza at 8–alone, which in general I would rather not do (that is, walk across campus alone after dark–I don’t mind the alone, just the fact that campus is deserted at that time). However, while eating pizza, I ran into this one girl I’ve met. I dunno, I don’t dislike her, she is just a little, I dunno, too bubbly? Anyways, she invited me to join her [and her dozen friends] after discovering that I was there by myself, and I really couldn’t refuse…..Actually, it wasn’t that bad. After announcing to everybody that I was from Alaska, I got some of the customary questions–such as “You must find it really warm here” [No, duh, it’s humid, and hot, and miserable–although we have had some delightfully cool days…..]; “What do you think of Sarah Palin” [complete with an incredible number of mispronunciations of her last name–so far I’ve heard “pollen” and “pal–in”, although fortunately some people seem to realize that it’s “pay–lin”.] Then, as we were sitting in the auditorium waiting for the movie to start, this one girl who is a friend of the one mentioned above, started asking me a zillion questions about Alaska–it was actually kind of amusing. Then, this one guy, he apparently hadn’t heard E announce that I was from AK when introducing me to her friends. So, anyways, when K (the girl with the zillion questions) asked me something about AK, he’s like, “You’ve been to Alaska?” [let’s call him J]

    “No, I live in Alaska.”

Then J gets this totally shocked/stunned look on his face (not that uncommon–everybody acts like being from AK is some big wow, as if I’d said I was from Mars, or something…it’s kinda funny). So, then he hold out his hand for me to shake, and I take it. Then K makes some comment like, “What, you have to shake her hand cuz she’s from AK?” And instead of just shaking my hand before answering, or doing it simultaneously, he continues hanging on to my hand while responding, “She’s from AK, I’ve got to make sure she’s real.” Then, he finally shakes my hand, instead of just hanging on to it for what seemed like a rather long time….I wasn’t really bothered, it was just slightly awkward.

Anyways, thus commences let’s ask LtL 20 questions about AK! From J (the guy), I got do I have internet, a cell phone (he was disappointed I had one–apparently he doesn’t), how many people are in your town (he was also surprised that it was in the thousands–I think I said 10,000, which is probably right, give or take a couple thousand–he said he comes from somewhere with a bout 600, and expected me to answer something like 4), have I ever seen the coca-cola bear (asked him if he meant had I ever seen a polar bear, and he’s like no, I mean the coca-cola bear–i still don’t get it…..), and a zillion other dumb/silly questions (like do I speak French?????). Anyways, him (and all of E’s friends, live in the same complex as me, just a couple floors up), so we walked back together–which is good, I didn’t really want to walk back at 11:30 by myself. So, before taking the elevator up to his floor, he apologized for asking me so many stupid questions, and was like, “Really, I’m not that dumb!” It was just like, whatever, I don’t care, I don’t mind the questions (even if some of them were silly). It’s just like, I really don’t mind the questions, and I’m sure he was just being goofy with some of them….Come to think of it, do you think he was flirting with me? (ok, yeah, that’s probably a question for the R&R thread…..)

OK, off to the other threads.

Once, in reading one of those “most embarrassing stories”, I came across one about a lady who decided to treat herself to an ice cream cone at a local parlor….so, she walks in, orders the cone, turns around, and there is Paul Newman. Smiling sociably and trying to look professional and in control she went out the door. Upon arriving at her car, she realized that she no longer had the ice cream cone in her hand, so, feeling foolish and more than a little self-conscious she walked back in, to see if she could find her cone…he spotted her at once and, smiling kindly said, “You put it in your purse.”

I decided to go in the trail that goes off the main road on the way to the store, and I found a big BMX track hidden in the woods. There was a little treehouse thing and the remains of the wheelbarrow that I’m assuming was used to build the course. That’s going to be my new hermit place. But when he got there, he decided he wanted to stay there with his remaining merry men and ditch the old king’s son. But the son got mad and sent his armies after Robin Hood….. and to make a long story short, Robin got injured in a battle, so he and Little John snuck off to see Robin’s aunt, who was a nun. But the aunt thought she could get some quick cash/get on the kings good side, so she promised to heal Robin as long as Little John stood outside the convent. Unfortunately, instead of helping Robin, she slit his wrists. As Robin lay there bleeding to death, he tried one last desperate trumpet on his little horn thing. 131- I’ll give it a try. Lax regulations on loans let bad lenders give loans, usually on houses, to people who weren’t always able to pay them. (subprime) Then these confused people got their houses repossessed. People got angry. Banks who had invested in these risky loans began to lose money. People got scared. Now, I’m not really sure what’s happening. Banks are losing a lot of money and the government is indecisive, so the stock market is falling.
133- But you should see my post on the H&H. Might actually have been a good idea.

Remember that old “Bunny Invasion” game I was working on? Well, I’ve decided to get back to work, and I have a good idea on what I’ll be doing. But I’d like to let you guys decide on one issue- should I base it off of IBCF’s old stick figure animations or off of BA?

And yes, this means I am working on it again. I’ll set the release date for 1/1/09 so I’ll have plenty of time to beta-test the cake out of it. *off to work*

146- IBCF’s, definitely. I don’t keep up with BA, so it wouldn’t make much sense to me, and others who don’t, I imagine. And those animations pretty much launched the whole thing anyway, amirite?

    Are you using flash? :D

I’ve been watching House. But that’s mainly because my family likes it too, and the library has it on dvd.
    I ♥ my library.

I think the game should be entirely your own. And I encourage you to send betas, screenshots, whatever you have. We’re interested, and I know Flash.

    Life sucks.

    And then you die.

That is the wisdom and advice that nearly 17 years on this planet has seen fit to give me.

[It might be some comfort to know that “Life sucks” is the First Noble Truth that the Buddha taught, and the foundation of his philosophy. (The rest of Buddhism consists of ways of making it suck less.) You don’t have to buy all that, but sometimes it helps to realize that people have been aware of the problem for a while and that it’s not necessarily the last word in wisdom.

None of which is likely to help much with whatever is making you feel so bad right now, for which I am truly sorry. –Robert]
