it’s so bubbly!!!! and what’s manga? sry but i am in ignorance… oh wait…. FIRST COMMENT!!!!! *hopeshopeshopes*
Did anybody read Bizarro (it’s a comic that’s in my paper) the other day? There’s this balloon seller in the park except he’s selling speech balloons. And he’s holding them by the stems. Oh well, I guess you just had to see it.
Manga is Japanese comics. And it’s FAR superior to American and all other comics. Same goes for anime, only wiht animations.
My favorite is by far Naruto, though I got into it BEFORE it came on Cartoon Network. I read the manga on the internet now, no “Art of the Doppelganger” for me.
I’m guessing no one else like J-pop or J-rock?
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*Runs away screaming helplessly*
I have four manga: DNAngel 1-4
i can actually pronounce manga! go me!
Graphic novels count, right?
Does anyone read Sandman by Neil Gaiman?
Oooooh!
I have a Caucasian friend who writes all these awesome manga novels, except she really can’t spell and I have to help her with it. My ultimate fav comics are the Nadesico series and anything at all done by Koge-Donbo.
Jing the Bandit King isn’t bad either. He’s. Soooo. Kawaii…
can the admins fix it so we can attach pics to our posts?
Meh. Don’t like manga.
can we e-mail pics to the admins then?
I just took a look at the blog software’s documentation and don’t see any info on how to attach pics to posts. Hmmm. Doesn’t look promising.
wot about pictures?
You can just email them to me at robert at musefanpage dot com. (I’m not writing out the exact e-mail address, because I don’t want spam bots to find it.)
i feel tottally in the dark. i havnt a clue what you guys are talking about.
Mmm. I tried reading Hot Gimmick today. I was very put off, the characters were annoying. I can’t seem to read shojo much anymore, the boys look too feminine. xD
I just read Sparklypoo and it was hilarious. The Snape one was funny but very very strange.
okay… if manga is japanese comments, then what’s Xanga?
i meant comics
Xanga is a blogging community….
I love manga! Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa, Angelic Layer, Magic Knight Rayearth are all awesome! (Can anyone tell that I love CLAMP?)
I was about to say that…you should read Shirahime-syo. Something along those lines. It was sunning artwork. Lemme find a scan, I’ll send it…
i dont like comics at all…..
If anyone gets the L.A.Times, let me tell you that “Peach Fuzz” or anything like it is NOT real manga, and should not be judged as such.
No, you should read Sandman. It’s much better and you don’t have to turn the pages backwards.
(Although, it’s kind of violent and creepy, so don’t read it if you’re easily disturbed)
Oh yes!! I’ve read Shirahime-syo!! It was /so/ .deliciously. AWESOME!
I almost cried in the one about the wolf because I /really/ love animals. And maybe the fact that I was reading at night as a tuck-in book contributed to the teariness of my eyes.
Ahem. I’ll happen to enjoy reading “backwards.” And I ‘m not really disturbed by much in comics/ manga anymore.. xD
Yay! The wolf one was sad, and so pretty…that seems like a shallow word to dscribe it , actually.
YAAY!
how do you get on Xanga?
What’s with the question mark thingies? They look like : ?|? and they be strange. This is RRF, trying on a new name. Nork nork.
I like all kinds of manga and cartoons. I’m not a big anime fan, unless it’s Hayao Miyazaki. I ♥ Spirtited Away. It really bugs me when people write fanfictions completely based on the anime without reading the manga. Which is usually the ORIGINAL, by the way.
I also love cartoons, especially polital cartoons (no surprise there) and Doonesbury.
The question marks appeared when I took the URLs out of the comment forms. I suspect it’s the program’s way of asking for the missing information. I’ll try to fix them when I get a chance.
You get on Xanga by going to http://www.xanga.com. You hit the button that says “Join” and follow the instructions to make your own Xanga. Then you write about what you’re doing, as the mood strikes you. Find out if your friends have Xanga, and go to their sites and hang out with them. I would love to tell what my Xanga is so people could visit, but the MAPs won’t let me.
Hey! Wow! No url space! I totally didn’t notice that at first…
yay for the GAPAs wonderful skills at…erm…GAPAness…
to get on xanga you go to xanga.com. Amazing, isn’t it? Such a radical concept… lol jk SNTD. To get on specific xangas u have to do xanga.com/username. But the GAPA won’t post xangas. I tried to put mine up….my poor little post! It fell into the nothingness of…nothing. And it never even got a funeral! *sob* Ah well.
I ♥ get fuzzy.
woah. i swear mg’s post wasn’t there before! wow somebody’s stalking somebody. MG, am i stalking you or are you stalking me?
Nothing is coincidental, therefore one of us MUST be stalking the other.
Unless we’re both stalking the GAPA.
Or maybe just lurking.
Or procrastinating.
Yeah this is a pretty pointless post so i’ll end it.
I also find that reading forwards in Japanese gets perfectly normal after a bit. What’s confusing is that some series change editions right in the middle, and suddenly you have to read in a different direction. (Like in Fushigi Yugi, or at least my libray’s copies of it..)
Any other Far Side fans out there? I don’t know if I like manga. I’ve never read any. But I’m not a big anime fan, so it doesn’t look too good for manga.
Ebeth, maybe we’re stalking each other. Or maybe this keeps happening because of Danny, as he stalks Bob, Bob stalks the Green Sludge Mutant, the Green Sludge Mutant stalks the Cute Guy Who is Out to Destroy All Greeen Sludge Mutants and Has a Thing For Randomness, and CGWODAGSMHTFR stalks Brian, and Brian stalks Danny, we’re bound to run into each other sometime. Maybe one of those people is in on an intricate plot to bring us together, so one of us gets creeped out and stops coming to these places, and then they’ve devided us, and then all they have to do is conquer. *sobs* Don’t go Ebeth, don’t go!!!!!!!!!!
My main objection to flipped manga is that.being the elitest purist sort of Narutard I am, it bothers me to NO end seeing, say, Kenshin’s scar on the oppposite side of his face. ( Though, in an uncharacteristic show of brilliance, Viz actually left Ruroken as it was. GASP! )
Or maybe it’d be a shirt that wouldn’t make sense because it was now flipped. Pah.
Fushigi Yugi is like that, very sad. Another reason I hate Viz.
The first being the TERRIBLE translation they did on Naruto.
For instance, changing the flipping jutstu names. Which sounds better: “Art of me and my shadow” or “Kage Mane no Jutsu”?
Honestly.
I hate it when you read manga at lunch, then try to read your social studies book backwards-ugh. Ughetty ughetty ugh.
heh. i left. went to mine chat. Their evil plot must be working *gasp* NOOOO!!!!
Speaking of Bob and all them, Bob updated her site. Go see.
oh yes and Foxtrot rocks! I ♥ jason…
MG- i don’t get Xanga… i’ll try it…. i don’t really get it though, could you explain it to me? pwease?
hey i think i might’ve found your site…if it’s really obvious then i’ve found it, if not i’ve just given some poor random person 30 secs of confusion…
What’s this Bob stuff? Did I miss something? Dilbert is totally hilarious! (most of the time.)
Bob is my alter ego. Bob is also a girl. Bob has her own xanga. Go Bob!
Dilbert is funny. I ♥ the little evil cat guy….
-nudges Xanga discussion to randomness-
But Xanga isn’t exactly random, and it rhymes with Manga. If that’s not enough of a connection to talk about it on here, I don’t know what is.
How about “Computers & Tech Stuff”?
…Actually, manga is pronounced mahn-gah, so unless I’m saying Xanga wrong, it doesn’t. But you can talk about it, is doesn’t really matter. I was in a bad mood whilst I wrote that comment.
x.x Sorry!
Actually, some of my friends have read that Xanga can be pronounced “zang-a” or “zahn-ga”, so sometimes it does rhyme.
Xanga is pronounced ZAYN-gah, at least where I live.
Moose: I’m not a big anime fan either, and I still love manga. They’re pretty different.
Axa: They have Fushigi Yugi out unflopped now. I saw it at my bookstore. (I read vol. 1 from the library, then went to the bookstore and read 2 and 3 unflopped.) Unfortunately, it also had sound effects in Japanese, which are nice for preserving the mood of the story, but I’m too lazy to go picking at the glossary in the back just to learn what a sound effect is. So yeah. That’s annoying.
I also hate Viz for Englishizing all of Rumiko Takahishi’s stuff. It’s left-to-right, the T-shirts have been re-drawn so that they read forward, and even the books in Ranma have been given English titles. Grr.
MG: It can be, you’re right. I was in aterrible mood, forget what I said. =_=
Phantom Norker (xD) : I haaaaate stupid English sound-effects. Especially in a really tense part, giant, goofy letters spelling “SWWWWFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!” really doesn’t add to the mood.
Of course, I’ve noticed it’s ONLY Viz who does it in such away. Otherwise, I actually don’t mind. xDDD
I like the far side, but my favorite comic is Bloom County which they don’t publish anymore. *sighs* it’s hysterical, though. Cutter John is the best. And Bill the Cat. And Oliver Wendell Jones.
I like Over the Hedge. It’s kind of stupid, but always funny. I don’t like this movie, though.
I like the Far Side. I like the Japanese sound effects with the English captions, perfect for lazy old me. Although that can be annoying too. I guess the only really good way is to learn Japanese so you don’t have to bother with the whole English thing. My libray is ordering Naruto, so I’ll check it out once it’s in. They really need a bigger graphic novel department, since I live in an area where Yu-Gi-Oh cards are the single most-wanted commodity among adolescent boys. Don’t get me wrong, I am neither an adolescent boy nor a Yu-Gi-Oh fan, but InuYasha also happens to be very popular here (although the anime surpasses the manga,) and I DO like InuYasha. (Give me… Vols. 14-18 have been checked out for the past five weeks.) Obviously, we need more serieses and more copies of everything. But try telling the aquisitions officials that.
Eh? Is the movie related to the comic? They took it out of the Times a couple years ago. Far Side is hilarious,as is Bizarro. I like Candorville, but I’m afraid few people know of it.
i have this awesome comics widget called “say cheese” takes a long time to load, though.
I love Asterix and Obelix as well.
Apparently the biggest war of our generation, besides the one over McDonald’s, is the Franco-Belgian comic book vs. the manga vs. the superhero book. Superhero is all POW!ed out, the manga seems to be winning, but the F-B has more support than you think.
I’m split between Manga and Franco-Belgian.
Candorville is in the Trib, and I like it too.
I’ve never seen a Franco-Belgian (ghasp!) comic. Are there any good ones you can recommend I look for?
i’m going to try Xanga…
Try Asterix and Obelix. A/O is one of my favorites. It’s super popular in Europe. It’s about these two ancient Gaulish warriors, and they have cool names like Fotogenix and Vitalstastistix and Impedimenta. They’re very funny and there’s a little white dog called Dogmatix who’s very smart.
Or you could try Tintin. Tintin (white dog named Snowy in there as well) is a journalist-detective and he always gets wound up in plots. His friends are Dr. Calculus (I think it’s Calculus) who is smart and can’t hear very well, and Captain Haddock, who’s alcoholic and a pirate (“Blistering blue barnacles!”) They’re very funny. Those are my two favorites.
go u queen j!
asterix&obelix, tintin and lucky luke are my favorite comics of like all time! there the only comics i readbut still…
by the way this is because i am danish and danish people are awesome
has anyone heard of lucky luke?
its really good
mutt has found herself currently addicted to drawing weird little cartoons things that our teacher showed us during an art lesson once. her interpratation of a bush caricature (sp?) is by far her fravorite, ’cause it’s oh so funny
what’d i miss?
If you’re a slightly creepy graphic novel reader, I suggest Persepolis and Persepolis II. Maus, too, but that one’s REALLY creepy. I regret reading it at age 11… shoulda waited.
Heh, you haven’t seen anything if you haven’t read the manga “Petshop of Horrors”. V. disturbing. I just looked at the cover and got scared. But the synopsis I read was rather…disturbing.
Ugh…rabbits.
Phoebe (#65),
The creepy thing about them is that they are true stories.
I read some of Maus. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near the scariest or most graphic Holocaust novel I have read. Did you know they made soap out of human flesh?
I had to read Maus for school over the summer. We never talked about it in class, though, which was kind of funny.
The two books Phoebe suggested are really good, too. They’re about a little girl growning up in Iran during a cultural revolution. (It is Iran, isn’t it?)
& while I’m at it, I’m going to suggest Sandman Series again, cause none of you seem to be picking up the hint. It’s REALLY cool, people. NEIL GAIMAN wrote it, how bad can it be?
Erg, stupid HTML.
you has to use greaterthan and lessthan signs! hold down shift and click the period and the comma!
I don’t really like most anime, but manga graphic novels are pretty good. I”m actually a total comic geek, so, you know, I
A NEWBIE? Velcome to our twisted home, Selesen. Or, if you’re just an old person with a new name, velcome again. MANGA! MANGA! MANGA! *pumps fist*
Excuse A-C’s insane behaviour. She’s just a little hyper because she’s back.
HEY! Wouldn’t you be?
Stop stealing the seat!
*insane scuffle for chair and keyboard ensues*
maus is scary
what the heck?
Welcome Selesen.
Kricket, if you said “What the heck?” every time someone said something worthy of the response, you would have to be up all night typing fast enough to outrun a cheetah.
Sorry. I had a tough test today and am still running at the mouth. Devo’s “Whip It” is stuck in my head and I am excited because I get to watch “The Rutles”. It’s a Monty Python parody of the Beatles. “All you need is cash…”
who likes calvin and hobbes?
you people abandon so many threads that there’s always new ones to replace them!!! why can’t there be less threads with everyone going on them without leaving them to rot in peace?!?!
Rottt…
sooo how do u actually say manga.
is it manga or monga.i read sumwhere it is monga.
all you northern hemispherians and sum suthern hemispherians are probably asleep while i type because live in New Zealand. i love Asterix and TinTin and Snoopy!
maen-guh
i heard somebody call anime a-nime once. (like rhymes with dime) that was annoying. She was talking in this REALLY loud annoying voice and she kept saying a-NIME yeah and blah blah blah a-NIME blah blah blah
you live in nz? ♥ ♥ me wants to live there!
I say it ah-nime (rhymes with seem)
just don’t rhyme it with dime. lol. Especially not in a loud high-pitched voice. And preferably not in an incredibly quiet library (or previously quiet anyway)
I say ani-MEH. rhymes with hay. more like anna-may. Who here knows somebody named Anna May? I don’t. But whatever. Ok i’m rambling now…
Mahn-gah. Ah-nee-meh. But I say anime in a quicker way so it’s not so perfect.
But’s it’s mahn-gah.
ok.now i no…
i like donald duck who here likes disney stuff. i do. its awesome.
Ebeth is your name really Ebeth that is such a cool name!!!
right now i must go and do highland dancing things see yas later
my name’s actually Elizabeth but i’ve been Ebeth since fourth grade…
Disney like donald duck and the actual disney characters is cool. But i doesn’t like their animated movies. Like Pocahontas! Blech! The History Geek Within protests! Loudly!
Ever seen Pocahontas Burned? A veeerrry funny flashplayer movie on all the mistakes they made.
The music is good, though.
*Sighs* I have never had a real nickname (that people really call me, that is). However, if I for whatever reason go to a dif. school, I might initiate one.
Oh yeah, the people in my camp thingie used to call me ‘Elk’. I still don’t know why. And one of my friends calls me Lani, a play on the Hebrew word for my English name (it’s ‘Tree’, for the uninitiated. Sphinx and Lusifer… and Zyviva, don’t say a word). But I tend to have a flair for the dramatic, as you can tell from my screenname, so I never really encouraged the use of a more homey sort of nickname. I call Lusifer and Sphinx shortenings of thier names, and I really do call Zyviva Zyv, but nothing other than that.
boy that was a long rant.
i like calvin and hobbes..yes you are right about the movies i have a japanese friend who is from japan and she brings back cool japanesey characters… like manga characters on pencils and such.i really want t go to japan
Oh, and I LOVE TINTIN!!!
Billions and billions of blistering blue blasted barnacles!
my band geek name is snowflake. ??? yeah, really random.
watched the pocahontas movie…it was kinda funny…the narrator annoyed me though.
i love snowy he is so cool!!!i read tintin in french in africa because i learnt french and my teaher said you should read tintin blablabla
i didnt understand a word but oh well
ah-ni-may
WOOT! GO HOBBES!!! He’s awesome, youknowyouknow…
You know what. I kinda get impatient ’cause I’m all the way here on Pacific time and it takes ’til night to get my comments moderate. Yah.
Oh well.
To stay on topic: Who likes… Zits? You know, with Jeremy and Hector and them all. I love Zits!
zits can be pretty funny sometimes…I ♥ get fuzzy, calvin+hobbes (but DON’T tell my lb or he’ll go insane), and foxtrot!!!
do you pronounce Ebeth ee-beth?
Woohoo (I use that word waaaayyyy too much, but it’s fun to type)! Calvin & Hobbes, the Far Side, and Tintin aren’t really manga, but they are all most excellent anyway! Petshop of Horrors is a great series! But seriously, if you want to read something creepy, try Diabolo. I went around for days completely paranoid after reading that. “Augh! If I touch that lightswitch, I might be selling my soul to Diabolo!”… etc., lol.
Anybody here a FLCL (Fooly Cooly) fan? FLCL is possibly the strangest, most wonderfully surreal anime I’ve ever seen. And of course there’s always Full Metal Alchemist…that series still amazes me with its deep, complex plotline and characters. It’s gotten depressing lately, though.
Mm. I wasn’t taken with FLCL; but then again, i saw all of three seconds,so my opinion is a bit worthless. xD I love Fullmetal Alchemist though. Roy=Yes.
Have you/Has anyone seen the the Cowboy Bebop Movie (Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door)? The animation was v. nice.
oh yeah i think i gots the 100th post!!!!
100 POST DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!
Anime has three syllables because it’s a Japanese word, and they don’t use silent e and stuff like that. So it’s AH-nee-may.
Mmm I really enjoy FLCL. Once upon a time me and my friends sat down and watched nearly the whole thing in one sitting. The end.
~Luna
Currently, I am googling hot manga guys to see what comes up. WHAT’S WITH ALL THE FANART? Some people cannot draw Chichiri (FY.) It is nearly impossible to draw Chichiri as wonderfully hot as he is in the manga, so don’t even try. The good fanart is, admittedly, nearly indistinguishable from the original. But whatever. I’m rambling.
I ♥ Spirited Away. Hayao Miyazaki’s stuff is practically the only anime I adore with a passion. Anyone seen Howl’s Moving Castle? Howl=*drooldrooldrool*
