Happy Spring!

According to the Naval Observatory, the vernal equinox arrived at 1:26 p.m. U. S. Eastern time (12:26 p.m. MuseBlog time) today. The change of seasons may seem meaningless to you Californians and laughable to you Midwesterners, but officially, at least, it has happened.

  1. The Chairman, as a full-blooded Ohioan, lives here in the Eastern Time Zone. Where’s everyone else? I should probably try to go balance an egg on its tip.

    HAPPY SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is supposed to snow tomorrow (where I live, anyway)

Oh, well, it’s the thought that counts.

    I LOVE SPRING!!!

In honor of the occation, my dad & I planted 2 peach trees, 1 pear tree, and 1 dogwood tree, so in a few years we will have peaches and pears (if the trees don’t freeze)

  6. The blog is in Central time because we seem to have a lot of people living in Illinois. This includes me. Today it dipped below freezing. Luverly spring weather, ain’t it?

Ahh, don’t remind me of allergies… That’s the one reason I like winter.

  9. Earth is weird. Very. Very. Weird. And now that everyone has been informed of this, we’re moving on.

How worried about Solar Max are you? With any luck, I won’t be on the planet when the flares start to go, so there you have it. However, I’m not quite sure there’s much Earthlings can actually constructively DO about it, other than take their hats off (ha, ha).

  10. Did you know that, besides being the first day of spring today is also:
    National Agriculture Day,
    Act Happy Day,
    Proposal Day,
    Festival of Extraterrestrial Abduction Day,
    and Well Elderly Day?
    And that March is the
    International Mirth Month,
    Mental-Retardation Awareness Month,
    National Frozen Food Month,
    National On-Hold Month,
National Talk to Your Teen About Sex Month,
    and Optimism Month?

Me neither! Is the word Month starting to sound strange to you?

By my guess WAYYYYYY before that hppens we’ll have blown up the earth with nukes, overpopulated and overpolluted it exterminating the human race, and/or flooded it from global warming. (if wekeep on polluting the air like we are noe north america will be under water in a century!)

  14. Solar Max is happening in 3 years. I hope not. And I hope my teacher doesn’t find out about “National Talk To Your Teen About Sex Month” because I am paired with a member of the opposite sex and we were supposed to create a presentation about gonorrhea. Yeah. Monty, I am so envious. My fingers are freezing right now, and it’s spring in IL. Yeah. This continent sucks. In fact, the planet’s just a moldy asteroid!

  15. Daffodils.
    I like daffodils.
    But I’m still waiting.
If the Powers That Be would stop sending us weather from Siberia and give us some proper Atlantic stuff (we’re usually quite happy with your left-overs), maybe the daffs would make an appearance. The heroic frogs in my specially smelly pond are braving the icy wind and snow flurries, popping up the moment there’s a couple of extra degrees on the dial, doing unmentionable things with other frogs, croaking in vulgar celebration, and producing spawn at an astounding rate. I hope the little proto-taddies don’t mind being intermittently frozen solid.
Still, I’ve nearly finished a medieval dulcimer destined for Japan, and I finally found a photo of some Victorian navvies puddling, so life goes on.

  16. Spring? Spring started a few weeks ago here, but then winter came back with a vengeance, but is expected to leave by the end of the week. The weather here from november to april doesnt make much sense.
Everyne I know is going down to Mexico for spring break, but I am going to the Grand Canyon. Hopefully. Yippee! Last time I went to the GC it was february and we had to hike down on a blizzard. My nose nearly froze off.
    I love daffodils!

    I went to school
    I had absolutly no fun
    I came home
    I ate dinner

    I went to bed.

So much for a wonderful first day of spring…

  21. I might go to the grand canyon, but maybe not, because the rough draft of my term paper is due right after spring break. It rained a lot yesterday (not very springy) but considering 27 degrees it was pretty hot. I don’t know, pretty much the same as winter was( mostly).

  23. California and inhabitants chuckle jovially at the so called “seasonal weather” you of eastern persuasion have.

So basically, I’m saying that California owns you all, while at the same time being really annoying.

Spring is super nice here though.

  24. I love the Spring in Arizona, though it only lasts about two weeks. I like the types of cacti that bloom in Spring. And I like taking the fruit from the barrel cacti. They are usually super sour but my friend and I dip them in sugar and and drink iced tea with them every year for our spring celebration.

Snow? Its hard to imagine being in a place with snow… Im a little jealous.. but then maybe not. Once it snowed on my birthday (Jan. 30 1992, GAPAs :) Most of it melted once it hit the ground, but some a lot got caught on the cacti and it looked really cool.

  25. Go to Payson. My grandparents live there, and I just went X-country skiing. On the rim, if you know where taht is, not acctually in payson. And yes, I agree. I’m jealous. But I bet people in Maine, or someplace like that, are jealous of Arizona’s winters. I mean, it’s the one time we can go outside without sweating, while they are inside frozen.

  43. I was walking back to my school from the park nearby where I had spent my break, and I was wearing a buisness suit because I had just gotten back from lunch with a Saudi Prince (No, it’s totally true…long story) and this guy who always hangs out in front of the Karate dojo next to the park started walking next to me : “Hey preppie girl! What’s your name? can we talk? ” and I was all like, get away. I should have told him why I was wearing a buisness suit. It would have totally shut him up. As it was I just ignored him. God, those people annoy me.

Although I guess It was pretty odd to see a seventh grader in buisness suit.

So shouldn’t you say, ” Hey it’s spring here in the northern hemisphere but not for the unfortunate people down under who are starting fall and school, I’m glad we’re not” ? How about that?
Sorry. I’m just a bit jealous of all you peoples who are getting snow. Do you know when the last time I saw snow was? When I was seven years old!! That’s eight years ago!!!

But don’t bother trying to track me down or anything, because we’re planning on moving in about a month or so, which is why I mentioned the different seasons and everything. Australia’s not the only place in the Southern Hemisphere, though. What about– well, I guess I can’t write it here, because I’m MOVING there, (and heaven forbid what would happen if you knew where I lived,) but… I’m going the Kiwi way.

This is the straight forward version: I live in Hawaii right now, (which is the little humid island) and I’m going to move to New Zealand in about a month or so. I just came back from a Jan./ Feb. trip to N.Z. which is their summer. It was spectacular. I could really see why they’ve been filming movies there.
