I think black is all subtractive colors and white is all additive colors.
You can think of it like this: A color is a certain frequency of light. Most of the colors you see are reflected light. They’re reflected because molecules (of pigments, paint, etc.) in what you’re looking at absorb all the other frequencies; the color you see is the light that doesn’t get absorbed and bounces off. So green paint absorbs everything except green, red paint absorbs everything except red, etc. If you mix a bunch of colors of paint together, there will be enough different molecules in there to absorb everything. As a result, no light bounces off into your eyes, and the mixture looks black.
If you’re dealing with colored light instead of colored paint, it works the opposite way: mixing all frequencies together produces white. And mixing no frequencies together produces black. (That’s easy to remember. Just think about a windowless room, a deep cave, etc. No frequencies, no light, dark, black.)
