Gosh, I haven’t been on for the past three days, ’cause I’ve been busy with High School Graduation Qualifying Exams, and when I come back, there’s like hundreds more posts!
The HSGQE are so simple. The reading section was on Tuesday, and we started at nine, had a ten minute break at ten, and I was done at around eleven. On Wednesday, we had the writing part. It took me longer, not ’cause it was more difficult, but just ’cause it took me awhile to figure out what I was going to write. I mean, they give you prompts, but they’re like ‘Think about a time when something didn’t turn out as you expected. Write aboout what you expected to happen, and what really happened.’ It took me like 20 minutes to figure out what the heck I was going to write about.
Yesterday was the math portion. It was so totally unbelievably easy. It had 80 problems. Here’s an example of a problem.
3(s+7) is equivalent to which of the following?
Then they give you four choices, but it’s like, come on, a third grader could figure that out.
Then there was a problem:
5x + 3y + 2x + 7y is equivalent to w hich of the following?
And the correct answer from the ones they gave was:
5x +2x + 3y + 7y
That is SO simple.
The only problem I wasn’t completely sure on was:
.05x + .05y + .05z is equivalent to
.05(x + y + z)
Which of the following properties is this?
a. Associative
b. Commutative
c. Distributive
and something else, that I don’t remember.
I chose c (distributive). I wasn’t all that sure though, ’cause it’s been years since I’ve done math that involves knowing the names of all the properties. I mean, I know that the two equations are similar, and that’s really all that matters.
So, was I right?

I just got back from downtown. I was taking this art class and we did a feild trip and walked to like six different galleries/studios and I saw some great stuff. Some of it wasnt so good, but I think I learned a lot.
Ya know what bugs me about art these days? COMPOSTION. Or the lack there of, rather. It’s like, people make weird, colorful, surreal paintings with hidden meanings and themes, but the whole I idea of placement of line and shape and harmony between the subject and other objects in the painting/drawing/other is gone. It makes me mad. Compostion is one of the most challenging and interesting and important things in artwork!!
Anyway. Sorry about the rant.

ah, another math discussion. i finally figured out how to make the digital gate thingies in physics! yays. trig is relly easy now; for some reason were doing system equations again-which ive been doing since 8th grade.
i should go to culinary arts skool. tonight i was the master improvisor. see, i was planning on making mexican pizza. i used a pita shell b/c there were no pizza crusts, refried beans instead of sauce, cheese, plain yogurt b/c there was no sour cream, + chutney b/c there was no salsa.
well, i thought it tasted great

The Skipper, the answer to your question is no, for 2 reasons:
#1- It is mostly the speed of the penny that kills the person. Since gravity takes things of different sizes and weights at the same speed, unless the wind/air resistance interferes, a penny or a quarter would make no difference.
#2-The weight of a quarter is not 25 times that of a penny’s, so even if #1 were not true, it still wouldn’t work.
P.S. I know you were kind of joking, but it was fun to answer anyway.

She is the captain of a boat (well, it’s she’s just a kid, but she and the other kids pretend to be real sailors and pirates). Skipper is another name for Captain, and I like it better, so I use it.

Hey, GAPA, you’re obviously here, so why aren’t you talking?
Not that it makes much difference…My dad’ll be home anytime so I’ll have to go eat dinner, which consists of cooking a frozen pizza, since Mom’s not home to cook anything today.
My sister and parents and I are leaving this Friday ’cause my sister’s part of a symphony and we’re travelling to Juneau and Sitka with them. It should be fun, though I’ve never gone anywhere on Easter before. I guess that means we don’t get to get into our Easter baskets first thing in the morning, then. And no Easter egg hunt, though my sister thinks that’s babyish, and only does it ’cause I think it’s fun. We fly out on Friday, and fly back on Easter. That sucks. Flying on a holiday. I don’t like flying that much, but anyway, GAPA’s probably going to think this is to much info since people could easily trace this weekend ’cause Sitka’s definitely not very big, and neither’s Juneau even though it’s the capital. It’s only the third biggest city in Alaska, and the biggest city, Anchorage, isn’t even all that big compared to cities like Orlando, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, New York, London, Paris, etc.

Hey Robert or Rosanne, I’ve got a question for you.
While studying genetic engineering for biology, I read that some plants have been given genes from fish. If a person is allergic to fish, would they be allergic to a plant with fish genes?
If so, this seems to me like it would create several problems, ’cause I also read that genetically engineered food does not say it’s genetically engineered, and if someone who was allergic to fish was also allergic to the fish-plant, then they would be getting an allergic reaction, and they’d have no idea why, and they would keep eating the fish-plant and their reaction could get worse and they could die.
Anyway, please answer my question as best you can. Thanks!

Gosh, I haven’t been on for the past three days, ’cause I’ve been busy with High School Graduation Qualifying Exams, and when I come back, there’s like hundreds more posts!
The HSGQE are so simple. The reading section was on Tuesday, and we started at nine, had a ten minute break at ten, and I was done at around eleven. On Wednesday, we had the writing part. It took me longer, not ’cause it was more difficult, but just ’cause it took me awhile to figure out what I was going to write. I mean, they give you prompts, but they’re like ‘Think about a time when something didn’t turn out as you expected. Write aboout what you expected to happen, and what really happened.’ It took me like 20 minutes to figure out what the heck I was going to write about.
Yesterday was the math portion. It was so totally unbelievably easy. It had 80 problems. Here’s an example of a problem.
3(s+7) is equivalent to which of the following?
Then they give you four choices, but it’s like, come on, a third grader could figure that out.
Then there was a problem:
5x + 3y + 2x + 7y is equivalent to w hich of the following?
And the correct answer from the ones they gave was:
5x +2x + 3y + 7y
That is SO simple.
The only problem I wasn’t completely sure on was:
.05x + .05y + .05z is equivalent to
.05(x + y + z)
Which of the following properties is this?
a. Associative
b. Commutative
c. Distributive
and something else, that I don’t remember.
I chose c (distributive). I wasn’t all that sure though, ’cause it’s been years since I’ve done math that involves knowing the names of all the properties. I mean, I know that the two equations are similar, and that’s really all that matters.
So, was I right?

I just got back from downtown. I was taking this art class and we did a feild trip and walked to like six different galleries/studios and I saw some great stuff. Some of it wasnt so good, but I think I learned a lot.
Ya know what bugs me about art these days? COMPOSTION. Or the lack there of, rather. It’s like, people make weird, colorful, surreal paintings with hidden meanings and themes, but the whole I idea of placement of line and shape and harmony between the subject and other objects in the painting/drawing/other is gone. It makes me mad. Compostion is one of the most challenging and interesting and important things in artwork!!
Anyway. Sorry about the rant.

Actually, Taiwan Hippo Fan is really good at math…she is very modest. She is in 6th grade math and she’s in 5th grade…I’m in Algebra, and in 8th grade. It is REALLY easy, but it is the most difficult math class they offer at my school….

ah, another math discussion. i finally figured out how to make the digital gate thingies in physics! yays. trig is relly easy now; for some reason were doing system equations again-which ive been doing since 8th grade.
i should go to culinary arts skool. tonight i was the master improvisor. see, i was planning on making mexican pizza. i used a pita shell b/c there were no pizza crusts, refried beans instead of sauce, cheese, plain yogurt b/c there was no sour cream, + chutney b/c there was no salsa.

The Skipper, the answer to your question is no, for 2 reasons:
#1- It is mostly the speed of the penny that kills the person. Since gravity takes things of different sizes and weights at the same speed, unless the wind/air resistance interferes, a penny or a quarter would make no difference.
#2-The weight of a quarter is not 25 times that of a penny’s, so even if #1 were not true, it still wouldn’t work.

My sister and parents and I are leaving this Friday ’cause my sister’s part of a symphony and we’re travelling to Juneau and Sitka with them. It should be fun, though I’ve never gone anywhere on Easter before. I guess that means we don’t get to get into our Easter baskets first thing in the morning, then. And no Easter egg hunt, though my sister thinks that’s babyish, and only does it ’cause I think it’s fun. We fly out on Friday, and fly back on Easter. That sucks. Flying on a holiday. I don’t like flying that much, but anyway, GAPA’s probably going to think this is to much info since people could easily trace this weekend ’cause Sitka’s definitely not very big, and neither’s Juneau even though it’s the capital. It’s only the third biggest city in Alaska, and the biggest city, Anchorage, isn’t even all that big compared to cities like Orlando, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, New York, London, Paris, etc.

Hey Robert or Rosanne, I’ve got a question for you.
While studying genetic engineering for biology, I read that some plants have been given genes from fish. If a person is allergic to fish, would they be allergic to a plant with fish genes?
If so, this seems to me like it would create several problems, ’cause I also read that genetically engineered food does not say it’s genetically engineered, and if someone who was allergic to fish was also allergic to the fish-plant, then they would be getting an allergic reaction, and they’d have no idea why, and they would keep eating the fish-plant and their reaction could get worse and they could die.
