This falls into the category of “saying nice things about our friends,” but Robert has just finished reading book three of Larry’s Cartoon History of the Universe and just has to tell the world how utterly brilliant and wonderful it is. If you’re tired of memorizing lists of kings and wars for school and really want to understand how history works, this series is a must.
OK, end of rhapsody. (A rhapsody is like a rant, only complimentary.)
Rhapsody in Muse? I thought a positive rant was a rave. Hmm. Apparently my antonyms need more work.
I’m going to the bookstore today-I’ll buy this masterpiece then and tell you wot I think of it.
A rhapsody is lower-key and shorter than a rave and contains fewer OMGs and less squee-ing. It’s a delicious word, don’t you think? Love that silent “h.” Likewise the verb, rhapsodize.
COMMENT 3!!! YAY FOR LARRY!!!
We love you LARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
squeee minus the squeee!
Squee! I shall rave now! OMG! Squee! Lol!
We love you larry g!
I’ve read the first 7 books of that (rather recently actually) IT IS AMAZING!!!! Yay!
♥ ♥ ♥
I love to rhapsodize as well, but raving is much more fun. Squee is a cool word. Ranting is always good too.
Ummmmmmmmmmm…
I love Larry! Just kidding! “Marry me Larry!” LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, thanks for the comics, and keep cranking them out!
I’ve read all of the cartoon history of the universe volumes he has out, and they really helped me when I was testing out of World History last summer- it made so much more sense than the textbooks.
(Funny- in firefox, I can’t see the hearts in the normal text, but I can in the title. Hmm. Me senses a conspiracy. not really.)
never read them. will now.
Cool, 11th post. I love his comics, I am a super nerd, who doesn’t like comics, but his are supperb, in an enchinting complex way in whitch I find positivly hillarious, and I have bad spelling and find them very, very good.
I like comics. Especially manga and Franco-Belgian. The top three countries in the world for comic artists are Japan, France, Belgium, and-Norway. Japan, of course, has a manga subculture, France and Belgium are the homes of the Franco-Belgian comic genre, and Norway is apparently the place to set up an apartment if you’re a web-comic person. Then again, our friends from “Chasing the Sunset” are from Norway. So there you have it.
Interestingly, the US doesn’t rank at all.
Juliette, that’s four countries.
I like Kokopelli and company. Why don’t they call it MUSES and company? I say that is is descrimination against birds to have feather and craw always there, but never have anything named after them.
As you probably know by just reading this, I like feather the best.
And how come some muses are NEVER in the comic. Like Bo. At least, not that I remember. Please don’t pie me if I’m wrong. I’m already in a pie war, thank you very much.
What does |..|..| mean in the title?
mr gonick, your comics rock. koko is the best cartoon character since… ever! keep making us laugh!
It’s been said, but yes, Mr. Gonick’s art is the best! I don’t know how to do the heart symbols…is it like this? ♥ ♥ ♥ …Anyway, seriously, if you haven’t read the Cartoon History of the Universe, read it, it’s worth the time!
it’s really good
funny story-last year in history we had to read the one about cavemen where they are eating that giant beasty thing, anyway theres this part where some cavemen are saying “we got the toes” and some others are saying “we got the nose” and some are siting in the corner and saying “we got the hose” meaning they got nothing; but some parent decided that meant something else and said that it was offensive and everyone in the class has to cross out that part
which we did have to do
that was the last time that teacher used comic strips in class
Ive been looking for a good history book to read. Now I know what to get! In fact, I think I will order it from Amazon right now.
rhapsody is a wonderful word.
and all atop the parapets
blow a multitude of coronettes
melodies rhapsodical and fair…
Thats from the song The Infanta by the Decemberists.
Anyway, sorry about that unrelated comment. We love you Larry G!

I took an art class and we did a comic strip unit. We were supposed to bring in an example of a strip that we liked. Everyone brought in all this popular manga and anime but I brought in a Kokepelli & Co. I think the teacher was relieved that somebody actually had something other than manga.
Oops, I forgot to close the italics.
:grin:L:grin:A:grin:R:grin:R:grin:Y
:grin:R:grin:O:grin:C:grin:K:grin:S:grin:
Bobby and Rosie, can you post the address to Larry’s site? You did it once before, on the Muse Movie thread, and I emailed him. All of you can too!
Wow, I’m on a different server now than normal, and the hearts look so weird. Before they were prettier.
Hmm, that’s weird. All of the sudden I can see hearts on here.
VF (24),
See the “Links” section in the right-hand column of the blog’s main page.
Yay Larry!!!!! way to go!!!!!!!!!!
25-All of A sudden. Not ‘the.’
every time i go to the library, i forget which books i want to get. BUT i am writing it on my hand now. i wonder, can you use this stuff for homeskooling? my mom is using some christian thing mostly, and an assortment of eyewittness and anything else she can find.
actually larry gonick has been hre several times, in scattered areas but initially and mostly in the thread titled “Larry Gonick”
OMG! I just realized that Mr. Gonick is the one who wrote/drew Cartoon History of the Universe! I’ve only read the first one, but I learnt so much from it! At least up until I lent it to my loony social studies teacher, who lost it.
you know, that is the second account i have heard of teachers loosing stuff of mbers. the first one was a muse, i think.
we do?
we do
Larry Gonick, you are a genius. I love your work!
larry gonick isn’t just a genius! hes a crazy genius! thats the best kind…
I had to return the CHot Universe today. *sniff* Twas sad. Except for the happy knowledge that others can now read it and know the wonders. And form their own opinions on the communism of the author. (Just fyi larry g, my friend thinks you’re communist. XD )
Queen. J, when did you change your name to l33t? I did not notice it. Change it back please. I beg. *falls on knees* Please, please, please. Note how i am actually bothering to type out the entire word, thus showing the extremity of my plea. Oh horror…oh unhappy day.
XD lol
our teacher has assigned us a reading from the cawtoon history of los estados unidos. Could it be by larry? hmmm… all we got was a little printout…”Chapter 10…in which a war is fought…for some reason…”….flippedy flip flip… “Ahm a famuh, not a thinkah”….”a too-tall, backwoods lawyer who told corny jokes at the wrong time”…”(In the trench warfare before richmond, soldiers went into battle with thier names and addresses pinned to thier backs, for e-z clean up)”…Hey, did anyone know that Stony Jackson was shot by his own troops…who then dropped his stretcher? tehe.
Larry has a special gift for delivering thought provoking, and humorous cartoons.
39-YES!!! CHot US! I have that one! GO ME! Wheeee!
39-What a froody teacher!
Mr. Gonick, if there was a Nobel prize for cartooning, you’d be first on the list.
I totally have to read that book. *puts book on already mammoth and ever growing “must read” list*
larry, larry, w0Ot w0Ot!

YAYAYAYAYAYAY
HOw did you start to draw koko, larry? Do you even go on this Muse blog, or is this question just going to sit here?
I LOVE koko and company!! And all of the cartoons in the middle of the articles.
I would tell my teacher that u said she was froody, HRH, but she would ask me why I mentioned her on a blog.
make more Kokopelli and companies (like 2 a magazine) and then well really ♥ you
There is a cartoon awards, but I forgot what its called. Mostly for political cartoons, though, I think.
38- But I like the 1337. More geeky. Let me get tired of it, and then I’ll change it.
Oh, and not to metnion, LARRY GONICK ROX!!!
To Mr. Gonick if you happen to stop by any time soon:
I think you should make your upcoming second Kokopelli & Company book extra long.
A Kokopelli novel the size of Harry Potter #5 would be a dream come true with whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top for Muse fans.
What do you other Musers think about that?
Should Larry do a Harry Potter sized novel?
It would take a long time, sure, but waiting is part of the excitement.
Okay… So I haven’t read any of his books yet but Kokopelli & Company is one of the best comic strips ever created!!!!
Yess! I’ve read Attack of the Smart Pies!!! It was so good I finished in a day! (I usually take months to read a book)
I’m a little confused about the ending, though. Feather was acting kind of arrogant, shich seemed completely out of character to me. He’s really slow, but he’s got the basics down, which is more than I can say for moat people. Okay, now I’m going to start getting off topic, … too bad! Antway, it’s frustrating for me that I think so lsowly. I try to consider everyting so I don’t miss stuff, but it takes so long. It reminds me of the name solicon – based life forms use for people – slowlife. (from Diane Dune’s book Hich Wizardry) Feather would have known he wasn’t the one who sestroyed the pie launcher.
Kali:
In the magazine, we don’t get the full taste of the various Muses personalities, because they are busy bickering about verious problems in the articles.
A-of the-S-P’s is about the Muses when they aren’t teaching children. Therefor we get to see more of what they’re actually like.
Kokopelli for example, is not as nice as he seems, and is actually more of a villian in the book. He redeems himself though, so that’s good.
That’s my opinion of the matter.
