Sheer Joy
It starts at Comment 208.
Thank you for this thread, GAPA!
but I don’t think it should be up to us to decide the topic. Can one of you pick one so there isn’t any controversy?!! I think it would help.
furst post?
how about why we have a random thread?
oh…and it was also The Pink Stalking Penguins of Penzance‘s idea, I just added on it, etc.
So you can give her credit on the top, too.
grr. I forgot to close the bold. but you probably shouldn’t post this because it isn’t on topic. but could you fix the bold? It should end after “Penzance”
thank you so much!
1 – I agree, it might help if a GAPA picks the theme, or at least approves a suggestion for one.
Oh, ho-hum, I do believe that we should discuss how soothing certain herbs and spices are.
I definately think that GAPA should choose the theme. could you? It would really help.
What to do when you have a cru- *gets pied*
Crust. Yes, pie crust. Lets disscuss pie.
Or not.
How about comic strips?
Hm. A lot of us are feeling a bit down right now. For a topic, how about Sheer Joy: stories about times when you’ve been absolutely, ecstatically, overflowingly happy. Think that might give the blog a lift? (If not, I’ll think harder.)
Hey, where’d my post go?
Oh, there it is.
So yeah, Comic strips
I like Perals Before Swine, Foxtrot, and Mother Goose and Grimm.
Mother Goose and Grimm is hard to type out…. anywoof, I loved how they made fun of the fact that the new nintendo is going to be called “Wii” pronounced “Wee”
when im singing.
well, its not like pure ecstasy, but all of my happiest moments have occurred while im doing it^^
Copper B. (12),
I’ll create a separate thread for comic strips.
Also, could you please shorten your name? The “Recent Comments” column is becoming unreadable again.
OK
Yes, with MontgomeryGurl leaving we are all in a sort of a slump.
There is definately joy in singing. Other things that I really enjoy are reading, acting, dancing. One of my favorite things to do is participate in musical theatre.
Can you think of any specific times that were particularly good? Like a performance in which everything clicked and the audience loved you?
it’s hard to think of happy times when you are not so happy. sorry if that post was pointless
Yeah! Sheer Joy, I like that.
Last week, I had a piano recital. My first piece was iffy because I was so nervous and I played it really fast. After that I realized that instead of lecturing myself and telling myself not be nervous, I should just feel as nervous as I possibly could until it was my turn to play again, and then I would have gotten rid of all of it.
It worked! Also, it was my favorite piece. It’s probably the most fun piece I’ve ever played: a Clementi Sonatina. It had lots of running notes and two really cool climactic (I love that word) bits with lots of crecsendo-ing chords. It felt so good! I was actualling grinniing as I played it, that’s how much fun I was having.
oh, acting is just as fun.
one of the most memorable things that happened during a play was last year in theatre III. we did Puss in Boots…and part of the set was a mill. the stagecrew had built it, & it was pretty much held together w/ duct tape & prayers. on closing night, we had just finished the last scene w/ the mill, & the stagehands came to take it off stage. suddenly, there was this relly loud cracking noise, & the “windmill” that was attached to the rest of the mill practically snapped in half! the rest of us backstage were in hysterics…i bet that incident was more entertaining to the audience than the actual play!
the best memory i have of singing was last spring, when my choir sang Lambscapes – ive mentioned it here before. its mary had a little lamb, only the song is divided into 4 parts.
part 1: gregorian chant
2: handel (hallelujah)
3: some german composer guy, i forgot who
4: verdi
Hmmm, the last time I was ecstatically, overjoyedly, absolutely thrilled to the point of singing and dancing and hugging passing strangers (I didn’t, but I felt like it) was probably when I thought I’d failed my Latin test but I got a 97%. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of the universe, but it made me happy anyway.
I’m most happy when I’m immersed in my Harry Potter books. Don’t really have anything else to say on topic.
I feel happy whenever I think about how much good is going into the world. and when I think about how I am only one person in the UNIVERSE. I don’t know why this makes me happy, but it does.
night night.
and
at the same time
hey, they changed the “hold on cowboy” message to “worthy museblogger” for two posts every 15 seconds.
I feel sheer joy at school dances. Unfortunately, there’s only one more dance this year, and that’s at graduation! Poo. This year is ending too fast.
I feel sheer joy in a party atmosphere, sometimes, or when eating a particularly good piece of chocolate and I have no homework.
Most of all, I am sheerly joyful when around the current object of my affection.
Like when you’re so happy that you could fly, and the happiness catches in your throat and you’re smiling like an idiot.
Sheer Joy???
I’m so happy ’cause today I found my friends, they’re in my head…
Does that count?
Or when you’ve been on a trip for hours and there are still a few more until you get home and you’re running on almost no sleep…Then everything is funny. And you are sheerly joyous.
Anyway, I was reading an article on Slate about how Jessica Hopper accused Stephin Merritt of being racist on the grounds that he likes that Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah song, but hates hip-hop…..It’s a bit hard to explain…..*attempts to post link*
www.slate.com/id/2141421/Well, whatever; its sheer absurdity [is that a word?] amused me.
[“Absurdity” is indeed a word, and a well chosen one. –Robert]
Sheer Joy.
I haven’t been feeling that much lately, but a few weeks ago we went to an IMax about the Nile/Egypt. I think I felt sheer joy then. It seriously felt like I was flying. I was just so happy – there were these people who took a journey on the Nile. This probably is making no sense, but I was so happy I was crying. Anyway, if the IMAX, “Mysteries of the Nile” ever comes to your city, I strongly urge you to watch it. It was the happiest I’ve felt for a long time.
When have i felt sheer joy? Eating choklit. Of course.
Erm…ooh, roller coasters are sheer joy. Staying up all night with your friends…like the bus ride back from great america, practically the whole 8th grade running around the rest stop. Just running around…in the middle of the night. That was incredible. I remember we took alicia’s makeup and turned sam goth…she was so tired and pale, she looked dead. So we went around freaking people out. They thought she was a ghost or something. And then there was another time…a sleepover at jen’s house, we were in this little tent that smelled so bad…cheese puffs and mosquito spray. Ugh. But it was so fun. We stayed up reading edgar allen poe and ran out up and down the middle of the road, just because we could.
The middle of the night is definitely the best time ever for sheer joy. Oh man…i love the night.
Hmm…yesterday durring Reading, we were giving oral reports for our book report project thingey. My friend went up, and started with the usual, but looked down almost as soon as she started and saw our teachers papes, which a=was saying somthing about feet. So she ended up saying “My foot(instead of book) is about-” Before she cracked up. She was laughing so hard she couldn’t finish, and when she finally calmed down, someone smiled at her and she started again. She had to sit down, and I was laughing so hard I almost wet my pants.
But not really. It wasn’t shee joy, but it was the most fun I’ve had in a while, which is a bit sad actually.
I was in my school play for the first time and I got the starring part. I had rehearsals 4 times a week and I got really behind on homework, I had to put on makeup which I hate, and I had to wear an itchy costume, but I made alot of friends and when we did our bows on the opening night, I was filled with sheer joy and that was the best time of my life. *sniff*
Plus at the cast party we had pizza.
what play were you in? what part were you?
I’m Peter Pan in our school musical, our shows are next week. We practice for several hours 5 days a week, but our costumes are kind of annoying.
The play I was in was You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. I was Lucy.
joy joy joy joy JOOOOOOY!!!
….idk what to say….
i’m not happy nearly as often as i am bored, so pure joy comes only when i am reading, especially muse!!
or talking to the only 4 friends i have that are actually funny. all my other friends are b-o-r-i-n-g.
Sheer joy is actually caused by an endorphin overload. Which never really happens in my life, so the point is entirely obsolete.
Actually, there’s a Konrad Lorenz (who was so underrepresented, along with Kinji Imanishi-why does that man NEVER get mentioned or credited for his own ideas?!) theory that states that-oh. Off topic. Sorry.
sheer joy- when i won this really big contest. on my birthday!
im got a main part im Pirates of Penzance. we are having this HUGE party after our June 1st performance. (the other performance date is May 31st)
GAPA, this is slightly off-topic *gasp* but what happens when the focus changes? Do you delete all the posts about the previous topic and start over, like with the newbie thread, or do you just leave them there?
I think the only time I’ve felt real sheer joy was once when I was on vacation and I saw a really beautiful sunset over Torch Lake. I know it’s cliched (spelled wrong, but I forget how to spell it). But it was gorgeous.
I guess sometimes after swimming too, from the endorphins. Like that one time we qualified for championships on or medley realy.
Ebeth (37),
I can’t imagine deleting old comments. I’ll either either leave them and keep going, or start a new thread.
#27: imax movies are so cool! i saw cirque du soliel @ the imax theater in GR a few years ago. it rocked.
#28: roller coasters are equally as cool. heyyyy…YOU can probably just drive to cedar point from where you live! unfair. im within driving distance of Michigans Adventure, which is like a knockoff of cedar point.
You do on the Abandon all hope though.
That’s probably a better idea though-new thread.
New thread? Sure! Yay!
Right, i’m going to stop talking off-topic now and think of something else to say.
Omg just like old times…i remember sitting here trying to think of some way to tie the comment in to the topic…aaaah…
Sheer joy…more moments. Riding my bike. Oh how i love my bike. The lake. Any lake. Mostly the Great Lakes, usually Michigan or Superior. Canoes, kayaks, swimming. Freezing cold water. Love it. Love cold water. Especially rain. Soccer games in the rain-i know most people hate those, but i love rain. And mud. Squishy, slippery, get wet, dirty, just slide…you’re alive, you know?
If none of this makes any sense at all, too bad. I’m feeling rather abstract today.
Beaver Island. Some of the best moments ever. Island in Lake Michigan…northern bit. Go up to charlavoix, however you spell that, take the ferry across. Majorly irish, hardly anybody there. More tourists recently though…very sad. (I’m not counting myself as a tourist.
I’m one of the “regulars”, i.e. i’ve been there more than 3 times) Small. You wave to everybody. If anybody ever goes there, don’t be a stupid tourist and refuse to wave, or pretend you don’t see people. It’s tradition. You wave. To everybody. Woods…so menny woods. So menny trees, beaches. Especially rocky beaches. Rocky beaches are SO much better than sandy ones. Cookie bingo with harriet’s grandparents (they live up there) And biking, so much biking.
Wow, the scroll bar hasn’t been that small for a long time. I’m liking this thread!
40-OMG! Imax in GR! Happy moment of recognition. You might say sheer joy. How that matters at all that you’ve been to the movie theater that was pretty much my life…i’m not sure. But it maketh me feel special.
Ah, speaking of that…another moment of sheer joy was indeed at celebration..not at the imax, but the opening night of hp…whichever one it was, when i was slightly smaller and had fun dressing up and being totally geeky. It was amazing. It was. Yes. I had a blue icee (second only to choklit) and got really hyper.
I did see 3 on the imax though…that was kewl. I saw it on the smaller screen first though, which was probably a good thing.
Hmm, happy moment……..
The time I received my first Muse. It was the one about the Chinchurro mummies. October `04, I think.
Sheer Joy is reading The Constitutiion of the Iroquois Nations. It makes me really happy for whatever reason. I wish I had a Tree of Great Peace. [Link deleted. But you can find the constitution by running a search with the words “The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations.” — Rosanne]
I’m a bad person. I posted two links in the same day on the same thread…
does Japan Count?
I can’t remember when I recieved my first muse. and the sad part is that it was only a year and a half ago. My memory for those kind of things is just garbage. funny how I can remember sitting outside of my music lesson for an hour because she went on sudden holiday and my mom drove off before I realized.
I guess our brains remember the traumatizing parts of our life. Dang it. I want to remember the fun and happy moments
This is weird. My comment is above Otzi’s and it says that its being moderated…….is it the link? Because I don’t think I typed anything about moderation….hmmmm…..GAPAs, what is going on?????
41–I love dodgeball in the rain. And dancing in the rain. I completely understand you. Sometimes I feel abstract, too.
The night is the best time for sheer joy. There’s nothing left of the day to worry about, so you feel like you could fly.
Hey Ebeth, how can I contact you? I’ve heard some people say nationstates. What is that?
I’m depressed. Will this get zapped?
Nationstates, I might mention a previously GAPA-approved link *looks hopeful*
http://www.nationstates.net
[Oh, all right. –Robert]
Look up Land of the Muse under regions. Password’s kokopelli.
I was happy tonight…i went to graeter’s with danny, tory, rachel, courtney, and jacob. Oh and lb stalked us for a while, but then he left (happy time, that) We ate ice cream, insulted each other thoroughly, and made vague plans about going to montrose (which we didn’t do) before all walking home together (we all live in the same general area, except for danny who left us after main, and rachel, who went over to tory’s for a while) Twas much fun. I had a lemon ice cone-bliss. Sheer bliss. Absolutely. That in itself could be defined as a decent post for the topic of sheer joy. Those three words. Except that we’re going for longer posts here.
I will also mention that Dire Straits, Dark choklit, and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is an amazing combination. Add into that sprawling room on the bed and a window. With sunlight.
Makes for a good evening. Also MB, AIM, various RPG’s…yeah, LIG. Oh and acronyms. Acronyms are alwasy fun.
Well yeah i kinda have to leave now, so that’s all the sheer joy you get for this post…
41- I know what you mean about rain. An mud.
I just thought of another one.
On day, in August, during we Arizonans laughingly call “The Monsoons”, it was raining quite hard. When it rains here, the dry riverbeds (called washes) that are between the roads and houses start to run with water (yes! amazing! real, live water!). This creates great oppotunities for splooshing in puddles and streams. I invited my friend to my house, we put on old shorts, t-shirts and rain boots and went down into the wash. We had to walk pretty far before we got to a spot where there was actually running water, but once we did, it was so much fun. We followed the stream up for what seemed like miles, under the branches of trees and hopping from rock to rock and splashing in the water. Finally we got to this golf course. We didnt think any one would be on it seeing as it was raing, so we started rolling down the grassy hills (in retrospect this is even stupider than I thought). We had just rollen down the hill for like the third time when this golf ball comes flying out of no where and lands to inches from my friends head. We both look at eachother, scream, and start running. We don’t stop until we pass the people who hit it, who look at us like were maniacs. We crossed back into the wash.
It was really fun just to walk in the rain, and breath in the creosote smell, and talk about interesting stuff, and feel the water pouring around us. The whole desert seemed so alive, like, I remember very clearly the barrel cacti spines were bright red, the most gorgeous rusty red.. It felt like I was 8 years old again (I was 13).
The funny thing is, it came with a price. Our boots got a lot of sand in them and rubbed horribly against our skin because we were wearing shorts. So by the time we got home, our calves had blood all over them. But we were laughing about it. It was so much fun, we didn’t care.
50-I am so unexplainebly happy that i dont get it.
I would be very happy if you could explain better
*runs off and grabs her paper journal so that she can remember and tell you all about various happy times*
sitting around at a friends house with people that I enjoy being around but I don’t hang out with that often as they are older than me. sitting and talking by the fireplace. the show the next night was fun too.
Going to a local restaurant with a ton of people from that show
dancing with the cast when going to the show of someone I know
getting a Wicked ticket
watching Les Miserables
seeing that Muse had published my website suggestions
dancing
sitting somewhere cozy eating chocolate and reading
50- I tried to get in…what happened? I’m really confused…
52-Don’t get what? My happiness? Or nationstates?
Ok-Nationstates is a world sim where you make your own nation and oppress the people (or be benevolent, but that’s boring). Phoenix founded a region called Land of the Muse for musers (she was Euania-but she quit i think.) So a bunch of us joined. I’m The Desperately Doomed Dominion of Darkness, Mwahahahaha (although i think i’ll change Desperately to Despairingly. Works better.) On nationstates, you can “telegram” another nation. Sort of like sending an email.
And yes, GAPA, that was a moment of sheer bliss when i joined. Oh yes and Em’s survey was bliss too.
I loved Zyviva’s answers about “papes”…
But. Getting off-topic.
What blissfully happy things happened today? Well, it was a late day, and i actually REMEMBERED and didn’t come to skool early! Then she checked the hw in latin, which was good because i did it and desperately needed the points. Also i was able to scrape up some extra credit out of Ivanhoe at the last minute. More points=good. In history, we learned that we’d watch Hotel Rwanda soon. That’s good, i want to see that. I won’t mention gym, because the topic is sheer joy. Same for band-it was ok but it wasn’t sheerly joyful. (is sheerly a word? Well it should be) Saying “yes” is sheer joy now because it annoys andy (always a good thing). He brought a laptop to skool and then refused to show it to anybody. So then we would start arguing like…
Me: Show me!
Andy: No!
Me: Yes!
Andy: No!
Me: Yes!
and so on, all day. So eventually it got to where andy would just say “No!” every time he saw me, and we’d go off again, and it bugged him so much.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! lol
Sheer Joy…I think it’s dying – does anyone want to think of another topic, GAPA?
Yes, i get that. I cant log in.
Well, we could discuss the May/June issue.
Which I never got.
OoOoOoOo new topic. *thinks*
The Poetry Machine was really goode, but it kind-of scared me. Anyway, I loved the points it brought out about ideas coming from the poet’s civilization.
I died laughing at the quotes from English as She is Spoke.
The article about learning to speak was very engrossing! And Muse should most definately do an article on feral children. One would have gone nicely with the learning to speak article….
Anyway, would you like to buy my cows?
Jessie (59),
Call and complain! It’s an 800 number–won’t cost you a dime. The operators are nice. If you sound sad enough, maybe they’ll give you a t-shirt. (I didn’t say that.) 1-800-821-0115.
The May/June issue was the one with the Tiffany and Laney letter, right?
oh yes. it was. I liked the part about the linguists. That was cool- I can’t imagine learning that many languages.
I got the May/June issue! I seriously was laughing so hard at the English is as She Spoke thingy!!! My parents said I was laughing in my sleep because I had read the article before bed… lo, it was funny!
English as She is Spoke made me wonder what kind of guy would want to write a phrasebook in a language that he didn’t know, then publish it without making sure that it made sense.
No, you mistake you, it is a frog!
Lessee here, I feel true joy, um, almost all the time, I guess. Life in itself amuses me. Ah, I know! When I read books I get this warm fuzzy feeling (that is until one of my beloved characters dies) I like reading. One time my friend was playing a DS (handheld game system) and she couldn’t beat my little ghosty guy on Mario Kart. I don’t know why, but that made me laugh so hard I nearly puked. I guess it was the fact she kept throwing hissy fits at it. Even more funny was the look on her face when about three seconds after she beat my I ghost I beat hers. Was that true joy or was that just me? No clue whatsoever.
oh my gosh, the may/june ish was SO funny, I lurved the poetry machine article. I was surprised to find my mom reading English as She is Spoke. The only thing wrong with it was the fact that it ws the May/JUNE issue and that means that the the next ish will come out in JULY while I am in camp. BOOHOOHOO!
I’m going to camp in the summer for three consecutive weeks. Shee, I am nervous. My parents are psycho.
You are being very random… you are being very random…
Darn hypnosis never works. The May/June issue? Wonderfully spiffy. ‘Twas an excellent birthday present. Language geek that I am, I translated all the cow sentences into Deveni.
Ya kÅ«rote kôma ne’ma. (I’m going to burn your cows.)
YÄ“livi kÅ«role tôtho kôma ya’ma. (Bandits burned all my cows.)
Ne ba’kÅ«rote’u kà ra kôma ya’ma! (Please don’t burn my cows!)
68, well I’m going for 4 consecutive weeks. For the second time. And I bet im younger than you.
Hey, I declare that I have changed thy topic and now we are talking about CAMP!!!!
I’m going ALL the way up to Minnesota. On a plane. By myself. AWESOME!!
kiki- i went to Utah by myself on a plane. it was cool, cuz i got to do whatever i wanted to. you have to stay on the plane until everyone leaves though. you leave with the flight attendants.
68+70- next summer (2007), my sister, me, and BYU are each going to separate camps for 7 weeks over the summer, so my parents can have prospective buyers look at the house, and not have to worry about our rooms being messy
70- yea lets talk bout camp
BAND CAMP!!!! *is pied* Oh i do love my geekiness. Well, besides band camp (where i will NOT be a freshie any longer!!! w00t! No more air raids!) i’m going to Blue Lake, which is a moosik camp in Michigan. This’d be 3rd time there. Tis a very cool place.
Hey GAPA, starts on comment 70 now, not 58, right?
Ah well. Picky ol’ me.
Camp is an awesome place. Any camp. NO PARENTS! None! Anywhere! Happy days…
We stay “focused” by changing topics every ten comments. Oh, well, whatever it takes.
I’ve been to a few different camps…in 6th grade I went to a piano camp, but it was way too easy. I’ve been going to a camp called “Camp Guts and Glory” for the past few years. It’s a camp for kids with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis.
What exactly are those diseases?
For two years I went to OSRUI, a camp in wisconsin. Bu tit wsa pretty tiring, having service twice a day for a consecutive month. So I switched to Thunderbird, my mom’s old camp. From what I’ve seen and heard about it, It’s pretty cool.
72- yeah, man. I wish I get to be an unnacompanied minor. But when I go to camp, I’m going to be with some girls from my area (its an all girls camp-sweet) and a counselor. Thats still pretty kewl though.
I go to a camp in Cali. A ranch camp. It’s so cool. We take care of the animals, plus normal camp stuff like swimming and sports and hiking and fishing and crafts and art. It’s small, about 50 kids and it’s like one big family. I love it. It’s full of nice muserish people.
Plus, I’m going to band camp for the 1st time this summer. Thats exciting.
Camp is a great experience for everyone if you ask me, as long as you go to the one that is right for you.
I go to camp in Maine for seven weeks. Crazy fun. I get to hang out with my group, five hoopy fr00ds I sass who are older than I am and overprotective. Also, I don’t get bullied there because of said overprotective friends. Though I’m not sure the ‘r’ should be there.
I would go on at length about planes but that’s not on topic.
Hey! I live in MN!
I’m going to MITY, which is a muserish day camp [Link to Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth zapped. Easy to find with most any search engine, though. — Rosanne]
and El Lago Del Bosque for a month! ELDB is Spanish camp with Concordia Language villages.
^^Like high skool band camp? As in…freshie? *points and laughs* Only a month left of that for me!!! Mwahahaha…
Oh man. You’ll have fun…
in response to comment #78 –
well, it’s kind of hard to explain, actually, really hard to explain. GAPA, could you explain it? (If GAPA don’t explain it, you can just google search them)
I;m goingt o a wonderful horse camp in Fallbrook, CA. Anyone heard of Rawhide Ranch? It’s only the BEST PLACE ON EARTH.
-dies-
I only get to go for a week though. They keep raising the price.
I’ll practice sounding sad.
I’m going to sleepaway camp for July. This is my fourth year at that camp. I have a lot of friends there, I know my way around, and I know what to expect, so I’m not nervous at all. I’m pretty excited, actually. I was going to go for two months, but it’s very expensive for both me and my sister.
I was going to go to Italy for the second half of the summer, but now only my parents are going for a couple weeks, so I’m not sure what I’m doing for August. Maybe travel camp.
camp? wow, yet another chance to form cliques and create excessive drama. as if skool wasnt enough…
i work full time all summer. w00t.
84. okay. gottit!
I go and work on a horse farm in Lostine, OR, this summer. I will piss off republicans there by wearing my “Let Pedro Vote” and anti bush T-shirts. whhhheeeeee.
(87) Don’t know what sort of camps chu go to, but I’ve never had that sort of experience.
It’s a bit sad though because all of my friends earned a certain rank in the camp, so I’ll see them less. We’ll have the same cabin place though, so all’s well. ^^
we have these very conservative group of homeschoolers and then this other very liberal group. i told my mom to where this anti-war t-shirt she got to the conservative group, but she wimped out. so i wore this t-shirt with a big hippie peace sign and a dove….
right, summer i’m going to everywhere… lets start in the beggining!!!
first, we’re going to Scotland and England and HOPEFULLY get to horseback ride cross-country!! then i’m going to a camp in michigan, and then a church’s mission trip in Niagra Falls, and then to a singin festival where like 100000000 ppl all sing together!! and then to new york to the adirondacks…. and then enjoy a restfull school session starting up (ha.).
well there you have it!
YEAH PEOPLES I LOVE HORSE CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but our summer is too busy for it…
once i went to yhis camp for advamnced learners or something. writing. and ive been to girlscout camp a few tymes. and thats about it.
I think we should change the topic. Lets talk about musicals!
Right. Musicals it is.
Musicals!!!!
This is my favorite topic of conversation!
I’m Peter Pan in Peter Pan !!!!!!!!!!!!
And our performances are next week!!!!!!!!
I’m really excited
So Queenie J, when are you going to finish the Muse musical?
What are people’s favorite musicals? I like Les Miserables and WIcked. Pippin is cool too.
Change linky too. Comment 93 now. XD
Musicals…I love Pirates of Penzance (I was singing that today in science. We were talking about leap years. Lizzy hadn’t seen it. *gasp* But i didn’t say anything cuz she already yelled at me for ruining Around the World in 80 Days when we did time zones. I pointed out that it was extremely doubtful that she would ever actually read it, but she found that irrelevant. Ah well.), and the music from Rent, Wicked, and Spamalot. The high skool’s doing Guys and Dolls. My uncle was in that…yepyep. I’m an usher. Go me. I get to usher the balcony. Exciting.
OMG, wicked rox. I’ve seen it twice, once on broadway, and once here. (in chicago).
When we were talking about Sheer Joy I told you about my musical experience. Me and Vince (Who was Schroeder in the play) started talking about it in Art. We were mostly talking about why Nick (who was Charlie Brown) got the lead, because he can’t sing or act. Actually, he is [omitted in case there is anybody from my school here].
Right now I am listening to Seasons of Love from RENT.
P.S. High School Musical rox, too. I’m getting it on DVD Tuesday.
Wait, my song just switched to Start of Something New. Kewl.
What I couldn’t see….. possibilities… something has changed….
I want to do Pirates of Penzance with my JCC’s theatre thing. It would be fun. I get to see Wicked soon! I haven’t seen Pirates of Penzance though. I am currently listening to No Good Deed from Wicked.
95- Hmm. I thought you were a girl.(no offence, I can’t see you after all. Feel free to pie me)
Wicked is an awsome musical. I luv the songs.
I love musicals and would really like to act in one, but I’m completely uncoordinated, can’t dance, and don’t sing too well either. Especially since I’m in the mezzo to alto range, a lot of female musical parts don’t really work out for me. *sigh*
I think I’ll try defying gravity!
I enjoy acting in musicals! I am off key though.
Musicals are either incredibly awful or marvelously good. There are not enough of the latter.
Oh no. Someone is going to ask me about the MUSE-Ical. Want the first couple scenes? It features some people, like Morbid (Agent Mothman) and Celebrian, whom we have not seen in a long while but whom we fondly remember with golden hazes.
sure I’ll take the first couple scenes. and I’m ahead of you. I allready asked.
you wrote a MUSE-ical?
Hey Purple Panda! You are playing Peter Pan and you have the same initials as him! *is pied for making stupid remarks*
101- She is a girl. Doesn’t mean she can’t play Peter Pan. It happens pretty often, I think.
I’ve only ever seen one musical, and that was ages ago. I don’t even remember what it was. No wait, yes I do. It was Big. I don’t remember if it was good or not, though. I get to see a broadway show next year. I was gonna see Wicked, but it was an extra 50 bucks, (where as all the other choices were included in the full price of the trip, which is for band) and it’s already a ton of money, so I decided no to. I’m seeing something else, which isn’t exactly a musical.
It’s an interactive african drumming (djambe) show called Drumstruck/
ooooh, man. I don’t even know what pirates of penzance IS. Oh very well than. Ill just google it.
mkay, gottit.
I am a girl. Just like SN said, Peter Pan is almost always played by a girl!
*humph*
AH!! wonderful, fabulous topic.
ones ive seen
WICKED is amazing, astounding, wonderful, fabulous (saw it most recently)
Phantom of the Opera
Annie Get Your Gun
Chicago
and Cirque du Soleil is not a musical, but its fantabulous nonetheless!
That’s because “Peter Pan” was written in the form of a pantomime. Pantomimes, as I’m sure Paul Baker could explain much more eloquently than I can, are traditional British wintertime plays for children, with songs, outrageously silly jokes, and loads of audience participation. (Contrary to what their name might suggest to Americans, they are not silent. Far from it.)
“Pantos” also feature several standard characters, including a nasty, hissable villain and a young hero, technically known as the “principal boy” and always played by a woman or girl. In “Peter Pan,” the principal boy is Peter. Many well known actresses have played him.
My dad played the youngest brother of Wendy in Peter Pan when he was a kid.
Now I kind of regret not signing up to see Wicked. Oh well. Im excited about the drum thing any way.
The Phantom of the opera will always remain…Inside my PANTS

They really should make City Of Ember into a movie, and a musical at that.
I can just picture it..
Lina: Oh no! I haven’t got the job I wanted..
Doon: Neither have I…
Both: Lets trade… La la..
Lina: Now we are happy!
Both: La de da.. Oh yes!
Well, if it was like that, then it would be a comedy.. a bad one at that. My songwriting skills aren’t what they used to be.
omg, I love “Into the Woods”! My sister was in it one summer. This year she’s a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz.
I think it’s about time for a new topic. How about…..origami/paper crafts!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL AAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO BBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
(114) Ha ha, I can just see it
Doon: I want to figure out the generator
Lina: I think a blue sky would be cool
Doon: Oh, darn, it’s to complicated
Ok, I’ll stop now, because there is no way that could ever be made to fit music.
lets see how many comments made the longest focused topic…
Second day of ushering for guys+dolls. I got the horse right here, his name is paul revere…
stuart is SO FUNNY! he plays benny southstreet. He’s hilarious. And matt loy as the drunk was so typecast (
) Anyway. None of you know what i’m talking about now. But whatev.
OMG some funny/disturbing moments of ushering. Rachel R. was ushering down below and there was this old guy there and she’s like “follow me please sir” and he’s like “i’d follow you anywhere” and she was just like “?!?!!?!?!??!?!?! run away…”
And then wiseman was ushering today so he starts whispering messages supposedly from weckstein that are like really perverted (you don’t want to know, trust me) and i was like “umm” but then Tory and I killed him during intermission.
I’ve probably frightened you all away now. You’ll probably never be ushers as long as you live. Not to mention everybody’ll be leaving the MB in droves. *sigh* i would totally think of something less disturbing to report but most of it was just dancing around and being generally weird. (not that that would frighten you hardened musers-on the contrary, it would probably bore you. “been there, done that. *yawn*” is what you’d say. I salute you, fellow musers. *salutes*) Wiseman got a “new” *cough* cell phone-i.e. his dad’s old-so he kept calling me from about 2 feet away, and once i went out in the hallway just because i was tired of hearing the echo, and he snuck up from behind and yelled “HI!” into the phone. Ouch. My ears. Anyway. I should probably stop ranting about insignificant details of my life and go to sleep now. Night all. Eat your weetabix tomorrow.
Oh! Into the Woods is awesome! I like the witch character. she is cool.
So much for a focused thread. Anyway. are we still on mucials or have we switched to oragami? From the looks of, it’s muscials I guess, though who knows, maybe it’ll change by the time I type and post this.
I should see some musicals. Lion King is coming here. I can’t get tickets though. Darn.
ive seen beauty and the beast, and lion king on broadway. im in the pirates of penzance
My school did the musical The Music Man, Jr. I was a mere Pick-A-Little lady because I can’t sing. However, I entertained everyone by imitating the bossy, bratty (and adult!) co-director…when she wasn’t around.
I think we should change the topic to origami and paper folding..people aren’t really talking aabout musicals so we need a new topic to keep us focused.
ok…well.
I really like origami – mostly modular origami (where you use several models of origami and put them all together to make something bigger). My favorite modular origami model uses 30 pieces of paper!
Jumping back to a previous topic (musicals), I just wanted to tell you which ones I’ve seen. I have seen Mamma Mia and Les Miserables which were both good. I’ve also seen/been in a lot of other musicals but not as profesional touring shows. I am going to see Wicked soon too! I’m very excited.
What shows have people been in? One of my favorite shows that I was involved with was Pippin. I was a backstage helper/ assitant stage manager for it at my local JCC.
Origami is allright. I don’t really do it much. I like paper cranes though.
127- does JCC stand for jewish community center?
the only thing I can make with origami are those square boxes. They’re pretty cool, though. My brother got a crane at the festival of cultures yesterday.
My school does a musical every year. The younger kids just sing the songs and act as a choir, while the oldest grade does the main parts. And it so haappens that just when I was about to go into that maraculous grade when I could be a main part, POOF, my parents pull me into homeschool. I mean, singing and acting is what I can do best, and my chance to do both things just dissapeared. Talk about unfair.
128-yeah it does stand for jewish commutity center.
paper cranes are really fun….our school made 1,000 (or, we’re close to 1,000. Ask my sister, she knows more about it)
I love oragami! I did a swan once, and a polar bear, and a peacock. I like the feeling when you squish down on the paper to crease it, and how it turns from a curved pieve of paper to a sharp edge. And I like the bright colors.
I luv origami
my friend has all these origami swans all over her room! they’re so cool! she sat on one though… now it has a crushed head…
lol
128- yup
Once when my family was at a restaurant I folded a paper crane to give to the waitress with our bill and tip.
135 – I always do that! (Except I do modular origami)
I take the kid menus and tear them up into tiny squares. Usually I only make models that use 6 pieces of paper, though. It would take too long to make something with more pieces of paper than 6.
What’s fun is making those rings out of dollar bills. I had one of those for ages, until one day I was short one buck, so I spent it.
Making things out of dollar bills is really fun. I once made a pyramid out of one dollar bill, and an eagle out of another, and I could balance the beak of the eagle on the tip of the pyramid!
I love origami. I can’t make much, though. Our scholl made a thousand cranes, and we’re gonna send them off to the Sadako memorial for Peace Day.
Origami! FUNFUNFUN! My library has quite a few books on it….I can make most of the models in them by memory…YAY!
I have an origami calender, but I haven’t worked on it since March.
What’s an origami calendar?
I think an origami calendar is a calendar which has the directions to a new origami model each day.
an origami calendar is a page-a-day calendar where each page is a piece of origami paper with directions on one side. each day you use the previous day’s directions to make that day’s origami model. I hope that made sense…
Origami is hard …I Can Not do it, no matter how hard i try. My mom has the origami calendar. It’s wierd. Hey… is that how you spell almond.. like in almond Joy?? (The candy bar) I CAN”T SPELL!!!
I used to have an origami calendar…it was really fun! But the models were way too easy.
146- Yeah, they usually are…
My friend and I were pretty much obsessed with it in 5th grade….she was definately way better, but I got pretty goode at it, too. I still can’t make a crocodile, though.
It is really important tener papel que es mucho delgado, and to press really hard when you crease the paper…
All I can make is the little boxes. They’re all about the size of my fingertip, so they’re not good for much. Oh well.
Origami….
isn’t there a myth that if you make some amount of cranes you get that many wishes or somthing like that?Or am I confused with another myth of somesort
hmm… i have not heard that myth yet…
we had a exchange student from japan once and she did really good origami, it was great that we were able to do some origami because we had lots of time on our hands and she was not all that interested in ‘seeing Alaska’ as all it was was snow at the time. she showed other host students and i to do those star-boxes.
It’s 1000 cranes for good luck, traditionally done for Japanese weddings. At least it was. I don’t know how many people still do it.
But I think it’s for a wish as well. -shrug-
DandelionsAreWildflowers!! awsome name! dandelions are SO underapprecated!!
I think thats it 8)
YAY!
yeah my old fourth grade math teacher had a jar filled with1000 cranes.
Attention, Welcoming Committee! Alaskabird/Alaskadude and DandelionsAreWildflowers have just arrived on the blog. You know what to do, I believe.
who would make 1000 cranes? i have enough trouble making those star-boxes! i guess they get lots of people to help them and are really good at origami…
I am just ‘Bird’ now because my brother (Alaskadude) is a copy-cat and we sound like we are totally over proud of being in AK.
154-I am now offically scared
152- Yes I read about them in my grandmother’s book
There is this person i know that is a total plant-person and she is trying to convince people that ‘weeds’ are amazing and useful plants. Well, she has me convinced. i am thinking about taking a class from her, mostly on medicinal plants. Yay!
*pies everybody who needs welcoming*
there are several people on the blog from AK….
I made 1,000 paper boats for my teacher last year for good luck..she was leaving the school
omg i LOVE origami!!!
ha ha’
excuse the previous comment. my brother is being oddddd…. abd making me say things. SORRY!
*pies Bird and Alaskadude and Dandelions*
YAY! I am Pied again Thanks Lemon Curry *pies back*
oh boy. more sibling rivalry.
at least it isnt me and BYU again.
Lemon Curry- me and BYU fighting caused MG to leave
where is BYU, anyway?
(don’t worry, I don’t miss him)
so much for focused topics.
we need a new topic.
suggesstions?
*pies Alaskadude, Bird and DandelionsAreWildflowers with pumpkin pie*
I like your names, Bird and Dandelions.
I think we should change the topic. Any suggestions anyone?
I vote how much we hate conflicts. Especially when we have to argue with people about them.
That’s the topic. For this post at least.
Ok y’know my big long project thing due Wed? Presentation. Huge part of grade. Group project. And, of course, for the dreaded lamuth. I have english 6th hr, turns out Wed is the day we’re going to montrose! The jazz band i mean. Going to the elementary skool. Skipping skool and fun stuff like that. GRR! So now i’m gonna have to try and talk my group into coming with me to try and argue lamuth into letting us go a diff day WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN ANYWAY since there is NO TIME but i have to try. And if i DO have to present, which i will, then i’ll have to get my own ride there afterwards. And i’ll only miss science, where i never do anything anyway. *sigh* Plus i’ll have to come in late with like a million small children staring at me and it’ll be awkward. Exceedingly so. David said i should just skip. Let me tell you, i was extremely tempted. If it were anything but the dreaded lamuth i probably would’ve. But no, if you skip that class like that you are SO dead. So so so dead.
Plus lookit the date. Mon. I’d have to talk to her at lunch tomorrow or there’s no way (slim chance anyway, but whatev. Every bit helps) Unfortunately i don’t really talk to any of the people in my group. Tyler i can ask during band, but i don’t see Jenna or Eric until after lunch.
I’m gonna go cry in my little corner now. Ah well. At least i’ll miss science if nothing else.
166 PSPOP- Lemon Curry is me.Or rather, Lemon Curry is my (imaginary) alter ego. But it wasn’t you two who made MG leave. It was just the general deterioration of the quality of conversation on the blog.
Ooh, Ebeth that sounds annoying. I’m sorry.
*virtual choklit for support*
who is MG? *pies self for ignorance!*
lets talk about plants.
MG is/was a very famous longtime museblogger who just happened to leave the blog about a week before you arrived.
And on the subject of plants….. my mom is a horticulturist so I know way too much about plants.
MG stands for Montegumerygurl (I think I spleled that wrong).
I live plants! Cacti can be kinda mean, but they do have pretty flowers. What are your people’s favorite types of tree?
Nope. No extension. Nuttin. I’m doomed. DOOOOOMED!!!!
And i really hate aaron adams.
Anyway. Plants. My fav tree is maple! ♥ My neighbors used to have cherry trees in their backyard. They let us climb up and eat the cherries.
Yum…
Ohio has no trees to speak of. I mean it has trees, sort of, ish, but they really don’t count. You can’t sit in them and they’re all smallish and boring.
*misses MI trees* lol
We have a lot of oak trees and maple trees, and buckeye trees, and tomato plants, and pepper plants, and lots of flowers of which I don’t know the name of, and lots of grass, and two peach trees which are still very young and only grow peaches about the size of a marble, and we have a pear tree but it doesn’t grow pears because it is too cold, and we have a banana tree which also doesn’t grow bananas because it’s too cold, and we have a night-blooming sirius (I don’t think I spelled that right) and we have a dogwood tree and we have a cherry tree and we have a grape arbor and we have a crab apple tree and we have a lot of hemlock bushes.
That was a long sentence.
We have more stuff, but I’ll say it another time.
GAPA, you didn’t change the “It starts at post blank” for this topic
Sorry! Fixed it.
We have 2 aple trees and 2 pear trees and a lot of other trees because we have an acre of land.
My grandma lives in MI and she has the BEST climbing trees in her yard. When I was little, I pretended to be an owl when I was up there.
177- hwoah! Cool. Lots plants. I have lots to say about plants. For a while, I wanted to be a botanist.
Me plant favorito is the saguaro cactus (say it sawaro). It’s the big tall one with all the arms that you see in cartoons. Is also the state plant of Arizona. They have really pretty white blossoms, and yummy fruit and they can live up 250 years, maybe even 300. They also are very large, and sort of solemn.
We don’t have any tree-ish trees here either Ebeth. I love Eucalyptus trees, and poplars, and Cottonwoods. I like big tall trees than you can climb in.
The native trees here all small, low growing, spiny things. I like the way they look- sort of tight and twisty and interesting, but they aren’t good for much in the way of climbing. Palo vereds are really cool because they have smooth, green bark, almost like skin. And in the evenings, when the sun hits it just right, it looks sort of golden.
Creosote is nice because of the smell it gives off when it rains.
Barrel cacti make me laugh. Did you know they always grow pointing south? And when the get to heavy, they lean over too much and just fall over. I always thought that if a barrel cactus was a person, it would be that silent, brick headed person who sits in the back of class and nobody notices. But I like the way their spines turn bright red when it rains.
Cholla is evil. If cholla cactus were a person, it would be a tall, hook nosed, greasy haired theif. Or maybe a stalker. It certainly clings to you well enough. There’s a lot of different types: teddy bear cholla, which looks fuzzy and soft (but is actually the polar opposite of that), there is jumping cholla, and staghorn cholla. They all have nasty, thin, barbed hooks. Brrr. Cholla can be fun to look at but don’t, what ever you do, DON”T touch it.
I also like lavender, because it’s feels nice and smells elegant.
That was a ridiculously long post about plants. What can I say? Plants are awesome.
By the way, Ebeth, that sucks about your extension crisis.

*virtual magickal choklit that makes all the work go away and mean people disapear*
plants? i like plants. they give you oxygen and everything and their pretty… i have a little tiny orange tree, that is too small to have oranges… and it’s pretty dead right now.
#176 Ohio has trees!!! big trees too. we have a gigantic maple in our yard that you can’t put your arms around. and there are big trees… but i agree that there aren’t many.
our neighbors have a weeping cherry tree in their yard. it is gorgeous!! in the spring it has all these pretty pink flowers and they last for a long time.
MontgomeryGurl is spelled like that.
Plants? I like to climb trees!
I think the facts about the cacti are interesting, Skipper Nancy!
Thanks about the info about MontgomeryGurl. I read the ‘goodbye MontgomeryGurl” thread also. The whole thing.
On plants, we have birch, spruce (i love to chew on spruce nettles, and they are good for you!) and cottonwood, willow and that is about it…oh yeah, and all the trees that people bring up here because they look pretty. We have lots of plants that are on the ground YAY! Shepard’s purse clots blood, so does geranium root, rosehips(some) have vitamin C, pineapple weed is good for nerves, motherwort for cramps, pyrola for rattlesnake bites (we have no snakes here.. but they help mosquito bites!!) FETHER WOULD LOVE THIS TOPIC! GO FETHER!!
CACTI!! I like cacti! A friend in AZ had pet cacti names Fred and George! He is a fanatic (Fred and George are from AK [ironically enough] and moved to AZ!!)
trees…ha, there definitely isnt a shortage of them here. there are LOTS of pines around my house, many different types, and also a lot of oaks.
you think Ohio trees are big? go to /california!!!
of course, I’ve never been there, but my aunt’s dad owns a huge redwood farm there and he has lots of pictures
I pet Cacti they are so cute
I beg to differ. All the ohio trees i’ve seen so far have been pretty pathetic. Even the ones in the virtually non-existant woods.
But then i live near columbus. Where in ohio does your aunt’s dad live? Probably farther north, no?
It’s late(ish) I am using this ancient windows computer in the attic of the house that i am staying in that has a keyboard that sounds like guns going off when you type on it. but i love plants so i wanted to post.
I used to have cacti pets… but i prefer just to look at the ones living around my house. theres this ones palo verde tree that must be really old… because it’s really big for that type of tree… anyway, it’s really fun to climb. my freind and i built a fort in it when we were smaller. it’s got really cool wrinkly skin-bark. hmmm. where am i going with this? i don’t know. Ebeth may have won the longest post award, but i win the most pointless one. shweet. peace out homies. :dude:
Venus Flytraps are lyk so cool.
I revel in my newfound ability to do italics.
188- Hey GAPA, would you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez bring Feather in? We haven’t heard from the Muses in a long time, if we ever did.
Muses come and go as they please, but I can ask Larry Gonick whether they might have time to drop by
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=344. (So could you, for that matter. He enjoys getting e-mail.)Feather? Could you please come and give me some gardening tips? My house is the only one my street without fnacy landscaping….
You should be proud not to have fnacy landscaping! What kind of landscaping do you have?
No landscaping. All I have are some random rhdodendrhems, tulips, and a thr ibggest tree on my street. But I guess when it comes to talking to humans, a Muse is never wrong. Thanks Feather. I am proud.
Feather, what are your opinions on mowing the lawn? I find it utterly pointless and unneccessary. What is the word of the Great Muse of plants?
HI, FEATHER!!! My spider plant is budding like crazy…
I am the proud owner of a bonsai tree.
I like hydragenas, stargazer lillies, weeping williows, and lotuses.
#193: its ok. i had a pet rock for a while. i think it was back before my house had tv or the internet…
my house is on a hill. we have some random plants in the front yard, + then our backyard is basically all decks. but the back of our house overlooks the woods – the view out of my dining room (its composed of more window than wall, so the room reminds one of a treehouse) is so pretty in the summer
I want a plant for a pet!
a Venus Flytrap would be a really cool pet! I wonder what living conditions it needs.
how about a new topic?
my tree is my pet… unfortuanately i forget to feed it and take it on walks, so it gets mad and loses it’s leaves. Bad orange tree! sit! no, sit!!!! SIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmmm, maybe i should get a dog instead…
how about architecture?
yes – we should talk about architecture.
Ok, yay! w00t for Frank Lloyd Wright…Fallingwater isn’t too far from where I live…!!!
I love Frank Lloyd Wright. Fallingwater is pretty close to where we are, too. (I think)
We could totally have a mini-convention at Bear Run….two people….ok, not really….*skulks off*
we could…
My mom taught an architecture & design class last semester.
…hmm…
The Robie House is not too far from where I live. Go modernness!!
Frank Lloyd Wright is cool. There should be a Muse article on Architecture! I know there has been one on an architect and one on dream houses but those were a while ago.
I took an architecture class last summer. It was awesome.
216- Yeah! The dream houses one! With Dali’s house! But they should do an article on architecture. Definitely.
Do we need a new topic? I think GAPA should choose this one..unless someone has another idea…
218- I don’t think so. The problem is that not very many people remember to visit this thread anymore…
Do we need another one? Hmm…I guess this whole focused-topic thing isn’t working out so well…
I’ll post a link on Visit These Threads!
Does anybody go there either?
I just did. M’use could have an article on archirecture… which muse would it fall under?
