*gasps* It’s AUGUST? Already? *rushes off the do something productive*
It’s interesting that MB managed to make it through a month with only two random threads. Y’all must really be short on bloggers with summer vacation and all.
AUGUSt IS COMING!!!!!!!!
I was just egotistically reading my goodbye thread. Man, that thing was touching, and rather depressing. Everyone was so durned sad. Funny thing is, most of the people on here now probably don’t really know who I am, or remember me. *sigh* I hate change.
Reading that thread made me feel insanely guilty. Y’all gave me a send off as if I was going off to have some great, mature, serious “life” that MB didn’t fit into anymore. Kind of embarrasses me that in reality I’m such a do-do brain. For the record, I’m as clueless, insane, random, and generally useless as I was when I was on here. I didn’t quit MB because I outgrew it, or had more important things to do. It’s just that I didn’t enjoy it like I used to.
I’m giving this big long explanation to an empty thread. I don’t think any of my old friends are on the blog right now. All off at summer camp.
ARR MG I REMEMBER YE. -pirate like flailing- I’ll actually have been here a year as of…what, August 16? Prrreeeeetty amazing. And don’t feel guilty about anything, you had reason enough, believe me. I still have to bother people about first post things. Me and Gary, the Eater of the Organs. And various cheeses. Okay that got really off topic.
The point is you’re awesome. ^3^
Now, back to August. I hate it.
I remember you! Well, I know who you are. You were leaving just as I discovered Museblog.
It is quieter duing the summer, but some desperate people still post… I like it, in a way, during the summer. Less confusion…
Isin’t the picture for the Augst Meltdown from the dog article that was ever so long ago?
Ahoy there, Miss Monty!
There’s a whole boatload o’ folks who remembers ye. There ain’t that many doubllons gone inter the chest nor barnacles growed on the ‘ull since yer left.
Ahaaar! Welcome back, missus. Ave a pink bunny.
Black Jake.
Hey, MG!
Happy August, all. Wow, that’s scary. August already.
This post is completely pointless.
Aye, miss. Nuttin’ much has changed since ye weighed anchor an’ left port. Be ye havin’ a pleas’rable summer? Me mateys an’ I hope so. Don’ go tellin’ us ye’ve become a landlubber with useless deadlights to the ways o’ the MuseBlog. If ye have, we’ll belay that soon enough, even if it takes all the swabbin’ o’ the bilge and the poop deck in this world! If ye not be stayin’ so long, fair winds and followin’ seas! Take a bit o’ the booty, ol’ seadog, an’ grab a bit o’ grub! Me buckos an’ I wish ye safe an’ happy sailin’.
I’m still here, MG! I leave for long periods of time, when Museblog gets swamped by the ‘FURST POSTZOMG!!!’ crowd, but I’ve stuck around. We miss your input on the Hot Topics threads, by the way. Even Musers who never knew you are all ‘GOSH GUYS, I wish MG was here!’ It’s a little bit silly actually, but whatever.
Anyway, I have an enormous amount of work to do before school starts in ONE MONTH. How did my summer disappear like that?
Why, so it is August. I didn’t notice. That means that this Friday I have to bike to the school for uniform fittings for MB. (Marching Band.) Ye gods, that’s going to be terrible. Not because of the bike ride (hot though it is right now) but because that marks the beginning of my having to put up with Missing, our band director. It’s just my little joke, that’s not really his name. A virtual Vespa to the person who can figure out his real last name.
I’m in the top ten posts!!! wohoooooo!!!!
Hey MG I remember you. There’s still a whole lot of people that remember you so don’t worry. And don’t feel guilty. That probably happens to everybody some time or another
I think we should do a post on dragons. T’would be fun it would.
Hey, everyone’s not gone to summer camp! Skimming over posts, it looked sort of like only the newbies I didn’t know were around to post. Is it talk like a pirate week or something? As usual, I think I missed a memo.
13- doing a thread on dragons would be cool.
I remember you mg. and i think the whole pierate talk is just something pb&j started.
Shiver me timbers! Be it talk like like a pirate day? I be disgraced, and not fit t’ bare the me title, then. I hadn’t the faintest smidge of an idea! But trouble yerself not, MG m’dear with feelin’s of guilt n’ such. I remember ye, when I was nuttin’ but a lowly rankin newb and you a great and mighty veteran. We’re mighty glad t’ see back.
Arr, indeed. I just returned from a long voyage to what ye landlubbers call “band camp”.
14- It may have something to do with… Well, just go to the Rebuilding Civilization thread.
MG, quite a few of the people who posted on this thread (so far) were here when you were.
No, talk like a pirate day is Sept. 19.
ARR I CAN TALK LIKE A PIRATE WHENEVER I BE WANTIN’ TO! -more flailing-
Yes, well. August is depressing because school is looming. -dies-
MG, Hi!! Same with Ruffled Grouse, you were leaving right when I arrived. But I looked over some of your old posts, and you sound pret-ty coolio!
Ahar, most on us likes ter talk like pirates anyways, an’ to ‘ell wi’ whether it be the day fer it or it ain’t.
Fair winds!
Talk Like a Pirate Day is September bloody 19th, so don’t get your undergarments in a twist. There’s a month left.
Ahoy, Monty!
Good to see you!
In Massachusetts its supposed to be 114 degrees tomorrow.
Does anyone like trading card games here?
My new name is Admiral Penguin.
Hola, Admiral Penguin. What prompted you to change from “Sir” to “Admiral”?
*eats dinner, reads, makes self a nice cup of tea and reflects for a moment before sitting down to blog*
22 – calm yourself, Grantikins, no one’s got their undies in a twist ‘sides your luminous self.
quoi?
Wow, I love how disjointed the blog gets when everyones on vacation.
No, really, I do. It’s quite amusing.
you know what band l love? Death Cab for Cutie. Yes, I do. What’s with the name, though?
shogun? did somebody say shogun? should i read it? it’s right here!
(26)
-PIE-
Welcome! :3
(31) It’s a line from a song I think…I really need to listent o them, because I ADORE the Postal Service, and there has to be some similarity, since it’s one of those off shoot things.
#31: Hav you seen the vid for Where Soul Meets Body? Me likes it.
This might be my last post until Fri, b/c tomorrow I’m headin’ back to D-Town for Sounds of the Underground! *is v v excited*
LOL There are so many ppl obsessed w/ pirates at my skool that we actually hav a poster in the choir room for National Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Bleh. 34 days of vacay left.
I won’t be on here much next week and the week after that…I have IT camp and then Forensic camp…I loathe waking up early.
So, I just found out that I can register for my permit 6 months before I turn 16. It’s a bit late for that, so I’m going to do that on the weekend…grr…
27-uhhh…the penguin got promoted.
29- That offends me. I’m so horribly offended. You would not believe how terribly offended I am. I feel utterly offended. Mierda! Esto es muy, muy ofensivo. Necesitare una disculpa despues de regresar al Museblog.
Gwendolyn’s Side with Common Sense: You know, it’s rather dumb to be talking like a pirate.
Gwendolyn’s Other Side: *kills side with common sense* Aaarrr. Dead men tell no tales.
Hi! I haven’t been here in a while. feels good to be back.
3–MG, I remember you!
13–A post on dragons would be cool. I love dragons. I’m carving one out of soap for my dad, but its tail fell off.
Ahoy,
(is that the right word?) ye who jabber the pirate way!
I’m not the greatest pirate speaker. Sorry!
Ahoy, there, you lubbers! Set Tigerlily free! Cut her bonds, or I'll plunge me hook in yer!
Quoting from Peter Pan, you can’t go wrong.
I would also quote Shakespeare, but I don’t know of any pirates in his plays.
I’m going to go check out the other threads.
Bye for now, hope you don’t miss me!
Do I?
Weird… There were a lot of early posts on “July Jubilation” about the Uraina pic, but nobody’s said anything about this month’s random thread pic, which is…THE DOG COUNTER BLOWING UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless that’s run it’s course.
THF (42),
There are pirates in Pericles, Prince of Tyre. I don’t think they have any lines, though: just the stage direction “Enter Pirates.” A couple of years ago the Shakespeare Theatre here in Washington mounted a production of Pericles with pirates who talked and acted like cartoon pirates, snarling “arrr!” and all the cliches. It was hilarious.
3- YAY YOUR BACK WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
ive been missing you, and because of you, and every one ignoring me, i was about to leave. im so glad your back. *gives hugs and a welcome back pie*
why is so many people gots penguin in their names? its like ye want to be me. ARGGG! the piratey talk has gots me. curse ye
the heat index here in NJ is 115 degrees. we’re sweating in air conditioning. the random thread is getting boring. off to a different thread.
I’m surprised that it’s the second of August and there are only 47 comments. i think there should be at least a few hundred by now.
My friends want me to go to the park and play some football but I think that they are very out of their minds.
0h, grantikins=grant, i see.
i just call him granto
you should all get shorter names.
KdP (44),
The image is indeed the ill-fated dog counter. Hot summer days like these are sometimes called “dog days.” The term dates back at least to the Romans and apparently refers to Sirius, the Dog Star, which is high in the sky at this time of year. Just a little cryptic GAPA-joke.
45 — Thanks for the info! It does sound funny.
49 — You have such a short name that any name would look long.
It’s soooooooooooo hot here. It’s probably hotter where other people live, but I still think it’s incredibly hot and humid.
I keep on wanting to change my Blog name. The time when my friend the Taiwanese-ish hippo fan was leaving our school and everyone was grieving has long since past. Anyone who isn’t a newbie (Or, I suppose, a newbie – I only said that because the non-newbie people know me better) have any ideas?
I didn’t mean to submit that. I used to think about ” Bluegrass Befuddled ” and ” 1234567890!@#$%^&*() ” , but if anyone has a better idea, please tell me. I’m not liking my ideas.
I recognised that. My mom said somthing yesterday about the dog days of summer, Iand I saw the pic an got it. *pats self on back and awards Choklit*
Good to see you, MG. Glad you come around now and then. Aye, I remember when I was jus’ a wee newbie an’ i’ seemed as if yon bigjobs ‘ad been around ferever, an’ ye ad’ fun an such long back afore teh ‘ole floods an’ swarms of newbies arived, stead of jus’ a cuple’ a’ a time. Aye, I does remember.
Wow, that was more Nac Mac Feegle than pirate. Crivens!! When’s talk like a Nac Mac Feegle day?
(50) My mom told me that just yesterday! How odd! xD
It also reminds me of our dear departed better-character-than-Ron-will-ever-be Sirius Black. Curses upon Bellatrix Lestrange, that…witch.
Nice to see you back, Taiwan Hippo Fan (I see you every day, but not on the blog)
50- Oh, I heard about that…!
Poor Sirius.
*cries*
How horrible. But JKR says someone got a reprieve from dying in book seven. I hope she means Sirius.
*hangs desperately to false hope*
And he was my favourite character.
*cries more*
Ah, August. Heat, dehydration, band camp. The joys, the joys.
Hah! Fat chance! JKR will bring back the most useful person, and that means Dumbledore. Look at the precedents: Gandalf was supposed to have died a horrible, horrible death in LOTR, but Tolkien found a loophole. I think the same will apply here.
*thinks about going to Sears*
You know what would rock? A popsicle made of iced tea.
56~ I think she means Dumbledore. But we shall see.
Grant, you could make a popsicle of iced tea. I’ve done it. They do rock. I used my mom’s cute little popsicle molds (made by Tupperware, I think). But you could do the same sort of thing by making tea, letting it cool, pouring the tea into paper cups, putting them in the freezer and after they get kind of frozen slide in sticks of some kind. Once they’re frozen you could probably peel off the paper. Or maybe it won’t work and it will just be a mess.
Be sure to make the flavor extra strong because when stuff is frozen flavors get muted.
USEC & Otzi, Thank you so very much for destroying my desperate hopes.
USEC- Then you should get those make-popsicles-at-home trays and pour iced tea in them. Or just do the fill-an-ice-cube-tray-with-beverage-cover-with-cellophane(sp?)-and-insert-toothpicks trick.
I’m a little worried. I weighed 115 when I went to the doctor’s last, which is underweight for my hieght and age. Accordig to my bathroom scale, I now weigh 106. That is just unhealthy. Especially as I should be gaining weight rapidly instead of losing it…
*goes off to eat *
SM (61) — Your hopes are not lost. I’m not telling you that it will be Sirius that lives, but I am telling you that Dumbledore doesn’t have to be alive to help people. All the pictures of the old headmasters can talk, remember? Once Harry figures that out, when he gets an elixir (sp?) that brings people back to life, even when you are not right next to their body, pouring it down their throat (I’m not saying that that’s what it is, I’m just trying to make it sound more interesting), he’ll go for Sirius instead of Dumbly-dore. Maybe.
w00000000000000t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m BAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!! I keep taking extended breaks. Forgive me.
*Musically*My B-Day’s in two days! w00t w00t! *Does Cabbage patch dance* It’s mah B-Day, I’m one year older!*Music Stops*
Wait…
Is that a good thing?
56- It could be Dumbledore. But I like both of em’ My friend Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooves Sirius Black!
Soon she’ll be Mrs. Black. (Or so she hopes!)
Ooh! Look at mee!!! I’m a kind and I’m an MB editor like Rossane and Robert! Ooh!!! Yeah! I am! Check out m name! See? It says ‘Administrator!’ So HA! And again HA! Ican do it too! Yay! I just hope I don’t get thrown down the FMP becuase I’m impersonating an administrator! *Gasps* *Takes off mask*
62 (Otzi) – how old are you?
In 5th grade I lost 20 lbs in just a few months…I was really sick. (Crohn’s Disease).
Great idea, Rosanne! I’ll try that! Awesome!!
My parents are going to Stratford, Canada, from Friday to Sunday. This means I get to enjoy the delightful company of my brother Clay, for however long he decided to remain here rather than go to a LAN, out with his girlfriend, or somewhere like Chipotle. I think they’re seeing Coriolanus and Twelfth Night, neither of which my father has read.
ick.I hope I don’t have crohns. I’m 13.
My freshman school year I got food poisoning. I ate a Boston Cream doughnut provided at a function for those with above-average GPA’s. Let’s just say that for several days I was unable to eat anything. After a while, there was nothing to throw up anymore…..*whimper*
Grant, What does it mean to “go to a LAN”? I’m stuck on that. All I can think of is “local area network” but I don’t see why your delightful brother would want to go to one of those. Does LAN mean something else?
62- i recently lost 18 pounds… it wasnt normal or anything and i had to get a whole bunch of blood tests done. everything was normal, but that was no surprise because i know what made me lose weight. it was relatives
I’m 14 and weigh sbout 92 lbs…I’m not sure if that’s normal for my age or not…but I have Crohn’s, so….
73 (PP)- I think it more depends on your height than your age. I’m vastly underweight for my age, but most of that is because I’m short. I’m still underweight for my height (90 pounds for an exalted five feet, to anyone who cares), but less so than I am for my age.
I was under 100lbs when I was thirteen…you should be fine. Seriously, I was under 80 until sixth grade…And I eat a freakishly large amount of food.
70- Gah! That sounds horrible. Boston Cream doughnuts are amazing though.
I’m getting a physical for my permit on the 21st. Then going to a volunteeNing party. And hopefully managing to get one of the pizza slices without peperonni (sp?).
Random question: who are Sebastian Schmieg and Kevin Potts? They’re mentioned at the bottom of the page for the design and icons…have they been on the blog?
Ah. What a LAN referrs to is a LAN party, which is what it’s called when a bunch of guys get together, hook their computers up into a LAN, and play games against each other. Sorry if that caused any confusion, but I’ve stopped saying the “party” part and just said LAN. Like, “Where’s Clay? Is he at a LAN?”
Chipotle is a Mexican restaurant. It’s supposed to be really good; Clay sometimes raves abot how we should go there. I don’t know if it’s a local type thing like Heinen’s, the best grocery store chain I know. That’s only in NE Ohio.
I made that joke about Clay being here much because he usually is out in the evenings or something. That might change when I finally get my freaking drivers’ license. Second-to-last-class today. It’s not as hot as it was yesterday, thankfully, since I have to bike there. If it was as hot as yesterday or the day before, I’d have to drink gallons of fluids.
I;m 14 and weigh about 95 pounds..but then again I’m somewhat short, so it evens things out.
(72) That’s horrible. You should tell someone about that if they continue to pester you about things.
(76) Chipotle is a chain. I’m not sure how widespread they are, but we have them here in Washington, D.C.
(75) SS and KP aren’t MuseBloggers; they’re WordPress designers. I don’t know them, but Sebastian’s name sounds Dutch.
I’m not thrilled that its August. I’m really not. This means I have to practise French horn, get school stuff, brush up on my math skills, etc.,etc., etc….Whaaa!! *sobs uncontrollably*
My brother claims he can gain and lose 10 pounds within a week, according to our scale. I’m thinking that our scale has been tampered with.
A hadnful of people at my school who are over 5 feet weigh under 100. One of them weighed about 52 lbs up until last year. Now he weighs 58….A lot of people are VERY skinnny at my school yet eat vast amounts of food. One girl, who’s about 5’4”, weighs about 70 lbs and thinks she is incredibly fat. Don’t tell me she doesn’ have self-image problems. Most of my friends are around 100, all of them around 5 feet. But two of them are in the low-eighties. I lose wight during the school year because a) I get more regular exercise (now I just have a once-a week martial arts class adn I walk the dog about 2-3 miles every day – during school I have gym and I walk the 3 miles to and from school) and b) I eat less. My school is so pooshy that they give me free lunch,. but won’t get off my backa bout bringing money. So I forget the whole deal adn don’t eat lunch. And I never have time for breakfast, so I usually only eat baout 5 meals a week. In the summer (especially lately) it’s too hot to exercise that much, so I just end up sitting aournd on my butt all three months.
Anyway, I jsut got back from Shakespeare camp – we were studying MacBeth, and got to put on a production of it, of course. I was Hecate and the murderer. It was SOOO much fun!!! Anyone who doesn’t appreciate Shakespeare’s works should have a monolouge or two of his shoved own their throats…Now this weekend I got to Toronto and….SPAMALOT!!!
Yeah, that’s what happened this summer – I went tubing for the first time in my life, went to drama camp, went to O’Hare to pick up my brother from his trip to Europe and now I have a few things left; work for my brother’s chess teacher, go to ROCKETRY camp (!!!!) and go to Toronto.
Oh and I’m depressed. My mum and dad bought an air conditioner. I could scream. I don’t want to become another intolerable America with the a/c running in 60 degree weather because its too “uncomfortable”. grrrrrrrrrrr..
I’m very tired, even though I had two cups of coffee this morning. And don’t tell me its going to stunt my growth because I’m already very short and I won’t grow any more. I’m VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY tired. uhduhwedjbi ewuyf 0eihn
welcome back MG!
your “im gone FOREVER” sounded pretty final, but wateva…
ima be gone for a while
79 (KQ)- Yes! Toronto pwns! I like cities whose names end in
‘o’, I guess. (Chicago, Toronto, New York-o.) If you like Shakespeare, you might consider going to the Stratford Festival shows. They’re about an hour’s drive away from Toronto, in the town of (wait for it) Stratford, and the actors are amazing. I’m also very fond of the design. Basically, the whole thing is incredibly spiffy, and shiny as well. I went there on my Toronto trip that I have just gotten home from. Canada pwns.
76 (USECGO)- We have Chipotle in Chicago. I’ve never eaten there.
(Grant) Ah. A LAN PARTY! Got it. Some guys in an office building near mine used to do that. They would scream and cheer so loud you could hear them outside the building.
I stopped by once and played for a little while. I was awful at it. I can’t remember the name of the game now. All I remember is that I controlled an avatar — a youngish looking guy — who could go around to different places shooting at things and getting shot at.
I could see that it would be fun if I did it long enough to get the hang of it.
Can we have another Muse How-tos thread? it was vair vair educational.
62- I’m 11 and I weigh 56 pounds as of yesterday. Then again, I’m only 4″5′ and have been in the 5th percentile for height and weight since birth.
Otzi (83),
Brilliant idea. No sooner said than done.
yay!
Speaking of August, who’s ready for the September issue of Muse??
I’m excited for the September issue of Muse (who isn’t), but it won’t come for a while…
SS – are you new? *pie*
70–That sounds terrible! I’ve never had a Boston Cream doughnut. Krispy Kremes are good.
75– Pepperoni. I don’t like it either.
79 – I LOVE Shakespeare! Shakespeare camp sounds ossum.
80 – This isn’t the first time MG has popped her head in.
83 – I agree. I’m a little late to say that, but I still think that it’s a good idea.
88- When I went to the Muse offices, I got a preview of the September issue. It is AWESOME!!!!!
Great name, SS.
Weight is dependent on your frame size as well. Some people will never reach a ‘healthy’ weight for their height, just because they have a smaller frame than most people. If your doctor isn’t worried about your weight (and he/she’d tell you if they were) don’t sweat it. Trust me, I’ve been through this too.
Chicago’s has several Chipotles, but none close to my house. I’d consider going there more often if they had more vegetarian options. Last time I went, I think they had two or maybe three veggie items.
& I think Grantikins is a very nice name. Why is it so offensive?
83- I can email more how-to’s if I get at least seven requests. Unless you were referring to something I missed. In which case I’m going to go and cry. Then clean off my futon couch. I should keep that under control.
89- Boston Cream is what I call a doughnut that is covered in chocolate and is filled with cream. It comes from a similarly named confection I enjoyed once at a summer camp called Wabun.
92- It’s not really the name I object to….well, maybe a little (seeing as I hate people getting my name wrong, but I don’t see how you could have known that). But that’s not the main issue. It’s the condescending manner in which your post was written, and the fact that you saw me as being worked up, which I was not. Besides, that post was mainly a joke. If this weren’t the Internet you would have been able to tell straight away. My voice would have been snobbish, choked with false emotion, and my movements overdramatic. Sorry for any confusion.
I would know. I hit 70 pds today! H’ray! Never mind that that scale tends to be off…
Grantikins. I like it. Kinda rollls off the tongue.
“Grantikins” is demeaning and aludes to munchkins. It’s the human equivalent of calling a respectable dog named Reginald reggie-poo.
Shakespeare also happens to be my best friend. Goode man, goode man…
92 (Zallie)- Luckily, we have Blind Faith. ♥♥
Grantikins? How dare you? Everyone knows that the Chairman wishes to go by Pwecious Ickle Granty-Wanty-kins. Geez. *patiently waits to be murdered*
93 (USECGO)- Ooh! Yes! More How-Tos! (Is anyone else old enough to remember those? I loved them.) *that inane puppy face again*
95 (Axa)- No! Shakespeare is my best friend! Mine! *tugs at playwright’s arm* Nyah!
My family went out to dinner a short while back, and our waitress was a Harry Potter fanatic. So, we were talking about the horcruxes, and she thinks that Harry is the carrier of the 12th horcrux. That’s why he has that scar, and why he can speak Parseltongue and all that stuff.
93 – erm, my post was intended as a joke, darling. Note how I used ‘luminous’ to describe you. (Condescending is like correcting someone’s spelling or speaking in baby talk.) Pet names are just me being silly. Don’t get your knickers in a twist about it.
94 – yes, that’s what I thought, but I’m apparently wrong. *shrugs*
Actually, I think I may like Granty-wanty-kins better now. Hmmm. (Thanks Pentatonik!)
96- OMG!! I live like 10 minutes away from Blind Faith! My brother got stung by a wasp near there.
I had a 102-degree fever this morning. Pity me.
Gah! That’s even worse! Heck, that’s even even worse than when those moron upper classmen on the bus would call me Gordon, which doesn’t even sound anything like my name. Plus, it was in the pre-me-knowing-about-Halflife 2 era, so I couldn’t even call myself “The One Free Man.” Please, please don’t call me that. Would you like it if I called everyone on the entire board Brother or Sister? I wouldn’t do that anyway! That’s imbecilic!
By “Please don’t call me that” I meant Granty-Wanty-kins. Aaaaagghhhhh. You’re allowed to call me The One Free Man if you wish.
100 (kiki)- Blind Faith is the yums. ♥ My non-veggie parents like it too.
102 (Granty-Wanty-kiOne Free Man)- I humbly beg your forgiveness. You are allowed to call me ridiculous names now, should you so desire. Such is my penance. *humbly bows head*
use it wisely…
Äugust! Yay! ♪♫♪♫
â–‘â–‘â–’â–’â–“â–“
104 – I don’t think I’ve heard of Blind Faith before. Is it a chain?
103 – may I call you MAN, Granty?
106 (Zallie)- I don’t think it’s a chain, no. It’s a totally vegetarian restaurant in Evanston, which is the suburb directly to the north of Chicago and right by the lake. I think BF is on Dempster, but I could be wrong.
107- Once, I was eating at Blind Faith, and my mom like, made me eat this disgusting seaweed stuff. My dad is openening up a restaurant and club right by there, I think the grand opening is sometime in the winter or fall. I think it’s on Dempster, I’ll Mapquest it.
#60: Try it w/ green tea. It’s v good on a summer day.
So is Blind Faith an all-vegetarian restaurant? Interesting name.
For anyone griping about being too skinny…you could try calculating your BMI (Body Mass Index – Try googling it, b/c I think there’s a site that will do it for you). Although…it’s not always accurate, esp if you’re an athlete w/ lots of muscle (It factors in your height, weight, and gender). Don’t use a height / weight chart from a Weight Watchers book. I’m fat according to my mother’s WW book (I’m 5’2 + 119lbs; I did hardcore gymnastics last winter, + I still work out, so I def do hav some muscle).
I touched Phil Sgrosso! (from As I Lay Dying) Eee! Yes girls, he is v good looking!
We got there just as The Chariot finished playing, so we didn’t get to see them . After them were The Black Dahlia Murder, who are this kinda strange band from Detroit, but they’re pretty cool. They also had the coolest – looking shirts for sale (Out of all the other band shirts) in the merch area, so I bought one (the youth shirts were only $15, so I got one of those, but I had to widen the collar a bit). Then Gwar, AKA the stupidest metalcore band ever, went onstage. They actually had costumes on, relly stupid costumes that I guess were supposed to scare us, but it just made them look even MORE stupid. OK, that’s when it started to pour rain. Then after them were Cannibal Corpse, and after them were…Machine Head. I had nvr heard of them, and I just thought they were another bunch of skinheads, but they’re actually pretty cool – They did a tribute song to a guy from another band who had recently passed away, and I thought it was amazing. Then there were In Flames – The band my friend and I wanted to see the most. They’re from Sweden, so of course they all had cool accents . The lead singer, Anders, seemed like he was daydreaming though. He just started telling the crowd this story, and suddenly stopped, like he lost his train of thought, and then stared off into the sky + was like “I see the rain has decided to join us” (It was still raining) “…Ah, Sveden. ” LOL, That made my day. The last band was As I Lay Dying…After they finished, Phil decided to run along the front of the barrier separating the crowd from the stage (And my friend and I had miraculously worked our way up to the front!!) and hug ppl. My friend actually got a hand shake from him; lucky her. I just reached out and touched his arm for a second.
Hmm…Ah yes: Crazy things that happened…There were actually fewer weirdos there than there were at Ozzfest; I hav no idea why this was, but anyways. There was a lot of crowd surfing, which looks absolutely terrifying to me – This girl got thrown right over my head! Then there were the moshpits, which seemed to always form RIGHT behind us! The first one was pretty lame. It got started by these guys who just went in + began kung-fu fighting or something, LOL, and then there were some other guys who were just skipping in circles. One guy walked into it + sat down in the middle. The other two pits were kinda scary, though.
And now it’s over. Sigh. My friend gave me one of Lacuna Coil’s older albums, Unleashed Memories, so I think I’ll go listen to that.
I am back from my other camp, which sucked. A person who was my friend for the entire school year suddenly decided to be incredibly mean to me. She was my only good friend at that camp, too.
I am five feet and 103; slightly overweight. My dad, who is a doctor, told me that there are 3500 calories to the pound gained. This means that I have to run six miles every day for about eight days (without eating a thing) to lose one measly pound. I could do the running, because I’ve been running every morning since mid-July, but not the starving. I like food. I especially like food when I’m hungry.
Soon I will be in Cape Cod at my friend’s beach house. Niiice. Maybe I will be able to relax.
Girl in Metal (109),
That green tea idea sounds good. Like green tea ice cream — sort of. Mmmm.
109 (GIM)- Ooh, that would be yummy. And yes, Blind Faith is completely vegetarian, and they have a lot of vegan stuff as well. I don’t know where they got the name.
107 – Aaaah, I think I’ve heard people talking about it then! One of my friends says there’s an amazing vegetarian place in Evanston somewhere, but she didn’t know what it was called or just didn’t tell me. Excellent, I’ll have to check it out.
& do you really live in Chicago? I don’t think I knew that. It’s such a wonderful city.
(110) That sucks. -_- At the camp I got back from about a week ago, they have this ranking system, and all of my friends who went outrank me so I didn’t see them a lot during the day. It was still fun thoughm, nothing can make Rawhide not fun. xDD
(109) This makes me want to go to a concert. If HYDE ever comes back to California, I will definitely go see him. I saw him at Anime Expo though, that was SO COOL.
But that concert sounds like it was a lot of fun, even if I’m a more alternative girl myself.
I love bad theories in fandom. Harry Potter ones are amusing in particular. I would enjoy nothing more than Ron being the final horcrux. Then I could see him die onscreen and laugh jovially while all Ron fangirls mourn over his “loss”. >D -is evil-
I think my favorite theory of all time from any fandom was the “LOLZ YONDAIME IS AKATSUKI LEADER!!!1111ELEVEN”
I’m reading a fascinating book, by a man called Sun. Sun Tzu! It’s very interesting, and I recommend skipping the prologue, introduction, and all that other crap, proceeding straight on to the book as written by Tzu himself. I find it not very surprising that most of his observations are still applicable. “By command I mean the general’s qualities of wisdom, sincerity, humanity, courage, and strictness. ……..If wise, a commander is able to recognize changing circumstances and to act expediently. If sincere, his men will have no doubt of the certainty of rewards and punishments. If humane, he loves mankind, sympathizes with others, and appreciates their industry and toil. If courageous, he gains victory by seizing opportunity without hesitation. If strict, his troops are disciplined because they are in awe of him and are afriad of punishment.” Powerful stuff. I’m surprised that book is legal. Knowledge of that calibre seems dangerous to me. For those of you who don’t know who Sun Tzu is or what book I’m talking about, I pity you.
*snickersnort*
blech. 104-degree fever this morning. At least I don’t have to get a strep test. Those are my worst fear.
My dad’s a musician, and he used to play at Blind Faith like, 20 years ago.
Shakespeare-There was a Shakespeare festival in the paper a few weeks ago. I think my family’s going to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream. There’s supposed to be a theremin!
Speaking of the paper and dreams while on MuseBlog…
I had a dream while at camp that the paper’s Tuesday technology section was three pages long and had a three paragraph section on MuseBlog. I cut it out and was going to scan it and post it but I didn’t have a scanner so I was about to retype it when I woke up.
Sorry for the tangent. Anyway, pie me!
*pies c&q*
Ouch, kiki, get well soon!
The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire started recently! I must attend it! Well, it is open weekends from Aug. 12 to Oct. 29, 11AM-8PM. Ye olde amazingness!
If you don’t recognize and embrace the inherrant wisdom of Sun Tzu, I pity you.
blaah……. can anyone recommend any good books for me?
(121) How about something by Sun Tzu, per Grant’s recommendation? Or Watership Down? *is pied*
58- Dude. I’m hecka gonna make one of those right now. *goes off to induldge in iced tea popsicle*
Chipotle isn’t THAT good. They aren’t bad, but they are, in my opinion, just another generic Mexican chain (that happen to be owned by McDonalds). We have a few here.
101- *pities*Fevers are no good. Hope you feel better, kiki!
115- Wise indeed. Do you think any body could actually have all those qualities together? I wonder. *ponders*.
121- Pride and Prejudice!!! It’s a classic that you can’t fo wrong with. I just reread it yesterday. Ahhh, Mr. Darcy… *swoons*
I spent the after noon fingerpainting in my tree house. It was so much fun. I love how messy and dirty and old everything is up there. It’s falling apart. Somehow gives it a personality, you know?
I haven’t been on much lately. I’ve been trying to avoid the computer and savor my last… *counts*… 9 days on summer. HOLY schkaMOLY. Only 9 days! *wilts*.
Shakespeare is fun. While I was at Stinson Beach, I saw The Taming of the Shrew Goes Bollywood. It was hilarious.
I fell out of a tree! Well, actually I fell out of a lift while trying to get into a tree…maybe I weigh too much…anyway, my glasses are fine, though I’m covered in foresty things…I expect I shall be quite sore tomorrow. I should really stop doing things like this, but I wanted to take a picture from in the tree, so my sister and her friend offered to lift me….but it didn’t work. They weren’t very goode; I’ve been involved in successful lifts, when I was a cheerleader. We probably needed a backer.
124- Nice job! *laughs*
No, sorry. Falling is no fun. I hope you’re ok. I fell backward off of a tree branch- I probably would have landed on my neck if I hadn’t got my legs wrapped around the branch at the last second. As it was, I just ended up with some beautiful scrapage along the inside of my thighs.
121- have you read The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett?
its good.
Ahllo C&Q! *Cherry pie*
#119: I’ve always wanted to go to one of those…
…#124 Eee! LOL, Glad you’re alright!
121-Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
Gah, I tried to read Watership Down once. That went on forever. I got up to the part where the gull is about to leave or something, then either I lost patience or I had to return it to the library. The part I found really weird was the part with Cowslip. Fiver is kind of odd.
-HYPERVENTALATES-
Ajikan might come to America for concerts next year. omgomgomgomgomg. I must see them. It’s my life’s dream.
And I dislike the whole style of Chipotle restaurants. Very cold, not condusive to eating.
Now, to find Goto’s blog… -lurks away into the explody fun of the Japanese side of the internet-
113 (Zallie)- Nope, the ‘burbs. But I’m close enough that I usually just say I’m from the city.
114 (Axa)- My personal favourite, just because of its sheer stupidity, naturally arises from the Inuyasha fandom. (Some of those girls have the approximate mental development and typing skill of a cabbage, I swear.) It runs somewhat like this (all misspelt character names and other words are my attempt to preserve the flavour of the original): “OMG UR SO STOOPID KIKIYO IZ WORKING W NARKU 2 KILL INUYSHA & KAGOMA!!!!!11!!!!!!!!111!!!!11122! lawlz i H8 her she shold go dye in a ditch ~_^” ‘Tis painful to see. Actually, it was also painful to type.
115 (Man)- Wasn’t he the one who killed the emperor’s favourite concubines to prove a few points? Ah, Gonick.
121 (kiki)- Hmm…depends on what you like to read. Fantasy, right? I actually haven’t been reading much fantasy lately, although I started the excellent Kushiel’s Dart today. Mucho explicitness in that one, though, so I don’t know if you’d find it off-putting. Well, Pratchett is always good, so’s Pullman, Pierce too… Many wonderful fantasy writers seem to have names beginning with ‘P’, don’t they? *coughPentycough* Wait, Paolini, never mind. The Oracle Betrayed by PCatherine PFisher is good, and so is Snow, Fire, Sword by PSophie PMasson.
I hope you feel better, by the way. Or that you enjoy at least one book by an author whose name begins with ‘P’ this summer. *coughPentycough* No, seriously, the first chapter or so of The Golden People, my newest novel, should soon be coming to a Writing thread near you.
123 (SN)- At Stratford, they’re doing Twelfth Night goes Bollywood! I saw it; ’twas hilarious. And they’ve got Brian Bedford as Malvolio, which is shiny unto itself. “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” If I am allowed to make a terrible pun here, great.
124 (SM)- Ouchies. I do not envy you, or your friends. Having someone land atop you, no matter their size, is not fun.
Whoa, lot to say there.
may i inquire as to why everyone is worrying about august? oh yeah, because i only have five more weeks to earn money to do my school shopping at smartpunk. i am so broke. but don’t fret, money lies just over the rainbow…not.
oh crud beyond crudness on crud pills. i have not done any of my summer reading yet. i will be screwed if i don’t start soon…bugger(is that considered a swear on muse? if so, would ‘bloody’ be considered one, because when i say it around brits they have a nervy tiz).
(131) YAY! INUYASHA! kikyo should go die in a ditch. though she is already dead…pity.
134 (SOTR)- Not another Kikyou basher… -melts-* I’m not going to get into my whole Kikyou defence shpiel, because it would bore the non-Inuyasha-geek Musers to tears. But she’s really an awesome character.
*In the wise words of Queenie J: “Guess I won’t need this bucket of water then.”
My parents saw Twelfth Night goes Bollywood on Friday in Stratford. That is all there is to this post.
125, 127, 131- Thanks for the concern
133- Don’t feel bad; I just started yesterday.
Hey Penty!!! I think you live really close to me. Want to meet up at Blind Faith sooner or later? Bring your parents, and I’ll bring mine, just to prove I’m not an insane stalker. (Which I’m not.)
You name the date. It can’t be from the 12th to the 21st cause I’m on vacay. Sorry. Also, can it be on a weekend, because my skool starts on the 23rd and the 22nd I’m playing with someone else. Or, it could be this week, but that’s rather short notice, don’tcha think? Other musers are welcome to come. And no, we can’t meet at Thee Fish Bowl, I go allergically crazy in there.
(133),
“Bloody” may sound quaint and exotic to Americans, but it’s really a very strong word to Brits. Be careful how and among whom you use it.
This goes to show just how arbitrary a lot of the badness in “bad” language really is. When you think about it, though, blood–in quantity, in places where you don’t want to see or touch or smell it–can just as revolting as some of the more usual things Americans use as a basis for oaths.
(There’s something else to think about: why do “swearing” and “oaths” mean both pledges/promises and foul language? What’s the link?)
I’m back, on my grammy’s compy. I’ll try to be quick, but I mingt not post for a couple days after this.
128- YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
98-Harry DOES have a horcrux! Read the 5th book, where they are cleaning out the headquaters of the Order of The Pheonix. They find a locket!
Hey gang! Remember me? i havent posted sinse april
(139)
Maybe its that you have sworn to curse and be rude? Or something.
What happened to the old crowd? darth yoda, luna, etc. i swear, u just turn your back on a blog for 4 months and everyones gone! :sobs:
I HAVE TO GO TO THE DOCTOR’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAH!!! I MIGHT HAVE TO GET A STREP TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!
(135) why?? why defend kikyo?? she’s a meanie, and on multiple accounts has tried to send kagome to the great beyond. hello! she is bad news, mi compadres, very bad news. i would suggest a brazilian exorcism to get rid of her evil spirits.
(131) Really? I wish I could see that! I saw a production (not Bollywood style) of 12th night in Stratford, England many years ago… I think that of all the Shakespeare plays I’m aquainted with, it’s my favorite. Malvolio is really a great character. Actually, my freind and I just watched She’s the Man last night. I was expecting it to be terrible, but I actually found myself laughing quite a lot.
(139) I always thought that one came before the other, and that because they were synonyms for one deffinition (promises) people used them for synonyms for the other deffiniotn (foul language) too.
(141/142) Hi! I remember you. Has it really been that long? Wow. Time flies when your on vacation. Speakng of which, how was yours?
Darth Yoda still shows up from time to time. I haven’t seen luna ina long time. A lot of people are on vactation though. You may see some more familiar faces once skool commences *shudders*.
I got my *shudder* strep test. BLEEEEEECH. It came out negative, which is GOOD, because now I don’t have to take any icky meds.
New Anime/Manga and Japan thread? ^3^ Please? The old one died.
Ugh, I’ve had strep before, not fun.
strep…
so not fun…
especially when you have a Bat-Bogey Hex on you at the same time
148- Stay away from me, you Sirius-killer! j/k.
147/148- Yeah, I know. I’ve had it twice. The first time, believe it or not, it was in my neck. My brother got it in his butt once. teehee.
(gapa, you can change “butt” to “behind” if you wish to do so. And delete these sentences.)
[Unnecessary; that’s just anatomy. –Admin.]
(147) i support that. anime es tre awesome.
Does anyone here agree with me that tonic water is yummy?
That’s good kiki! *puts away get well pie*
I’m avoiding cleaning my room. I really shouldn’t. I need to get it done before skool starts and it will probably take a few days.
I start August 14 (kinda early I know. But I got out May 25) When does everybody else?
(148) By the way, has anyone not heard who is playing Bellatrix in the next Harry Potter movie?
I know someone who starts on the 14th, too.
I start on the 29th. Freshies and transfers start the day before.
I am so not ready for that.
I start on the 21st. no, who’s playing bellatrix?
Helena Bonham-Carter, a veteran English ingenue now making the transition to character roles. If you haven’t seen her, you may recognize her as the voice of Emily in “The Corpse Bride.”
I didn’t know that. But I don’t know a lot of things. As you all may know.
*is pied for the above sentences*
Anywhee, I was going to tell you somthing but I forgot. Again. Is there no end to this? To much pointlessness. Pointlessnessessmesssless whatever.
*is pied for thoses sentencess too*
So I guess I’ll just do a random quote. My friend says that this one reminds her of me- “I used to have superpowers, but my therapist took them away.”
*is pied once more for good measure*
Can we have another random quotes thread?
you know what i don’t like about august?
156- Imelda Staunton’s playing Umbridge.
you know what i don’t like about august? that people use mtv to solve their problems. can we have an mtv bashing thread? muse could be on ‘made’! like a ‘tonight, on mtv’s made, muse blog recruits some local bloggers to create new blogs and totally bashes mtv!’ it could be the smash of the summer! or what’s left of it.
I highly recommend Life In Prison by Tookie Wlliams. It is supe depressing, but it is a really good book. And you get VERY angry at the Governator, because this man should not have been executed.
#156: Kewl!!…If anyone here hasn’t seen Corpse Bride yet, you should go out + rent it right now. V good movie. It could almost be classified as a musical, I think.
…Well, I think I’ve already done all my back-to-skool shopping. All I needed were a few sweatshirts. Jeesh, do you know that they hav more band shirts at Spencer’s than they do at Hot Topic? I got a relly kewl HIM sweatshirt there the other day; it has the Heartagram on it, which is surrounded by some Latin…that I have yet to translate…
(134) Dear lord, I know how it is. Try the Naruto fandom. Especially with the American release. -shudder- I love the dub, but the FANS kill me. I have seen many a post such as your example. It makes me cry inside. And vomit. But mostly cry.
(161) He shot a little girl in the face and slaughtered the rest of her family. He also founded one of the most heinous gangs in L.A, and undoubtably caused hundreds more deaths as a result. He’s a liar and a murderer, and I don’t care how many books he “wrote”. He is condemned in my eyes and got what he deserved.
-breathes-
(153) I haven’t! I still wish they’d cast someone else for Sirius… Sigh.
141&42 (BM)- I’m still here, and I definitely qualify as old. I remember you, I think. There are a lot of bloggers nowadays, and multiple ones have had muffins in their names.
138 (kiki)- But I am an insane stalker, see…
No really, that sounds shiny. School for me starts the 17th, and I’m going to boarding school in [very far western semi-burb that is a common Mary Sue name]*, so I’ll be coming home on some weekends. I shall have a little chat with my parents about it forthwith.
144 (SOTR)- So have a lot of people. (Tried to kill Kagome, that is.) And Kikyou isn’t one of them, not really. When we get an anime/manga thread, I will go into more detail on this, because I think Musers on that will have a higher tolerance for character arguments. Suffice to say for now that Kikyou may not be all happy fluffy bunnies and duckies, but she’s definitely not evil.
163 (Axa)- Yes. I blame the anime in general for the rampant Kag-Kik fights so common in the Inuyasha fandom, but mostly the dub. Both their voices are kind of annoying in English (Actually, most of the voices are kind of annoying in English. Janyse Jaud is NOT Kagura. No.), which kind of exacerbates the problem that appears to have been in the anime from the beginning: very little character depth. Takahashi-sensei spends TEN FREAKING YEARS working on and growing these characters, and then the anime decides to go stuff them into neat little stereotypical boxes. Kagome suddenly gets to be a whiny baby who doesn’t seem to be able to do anything, and Kikyou is turned into the vengeful, jealous ex-girlfriend. Nine times out of ten bashers have never read the manga, only seen a few episodes of the anime, usually dubbed. I hate that. </rant>
*Cookies to anyone who gets it.
-decides to talk about anime until new thread is made xD-
I never liked Kagome; she looks EXACTLY the same on every single box cover of the anime. Which all contain like three episodes.
Dub fiends, as I like to call them, are the bane of my existance. Too many times I have found a fangirl gushing over (insert bishonen here) when she has only the barest knowledge of the character. I could say “Obito” to the inspid Kakashi fangirls on the dub section of the NarutoFan forums, and they’d most likely reply : “WHUT? WHO DAT???????????”
This goes back to my numer one pet peeve: people who call themselves fans that are, in truth, not. You aren’t a fan until you have SUFFERED.
As for the boarding school… the only name that comes to me is Ayame, but that’s from anime fandom. -brain dead-
So… bored!
Meh. I’ve become hooked on NationStates (nationstates.net) in recent times.
It’s fun.
Helps me not be bored, anyway.
Still… bored!
Nine times out of ten bashers have never read the manga, only seen a few episodes of the anime, usually dubbed. I hate that.
Haha. Thanks for clearing that up; that’s probably why I hate anime. I’m sure some of it is fine, but the shows I’ve seen are basically crapified, corny excuses for cartoons. Hurk. Plus, anime freaks tend to fit into those stereotypes portrayed in the characters. There was one at my school… she would always jump up and down, scream – you can sort of guess.
Unless they figure out a way to improve, I’m sticking with Get Fuzzy.
160- Urgh, I hate those. Or any stupid reality shows. Survivor used to be funny, but then they gave the contestants so much more stuff…not cool. I also hate the Parental Control show and Super Sweet Sixteen. I don’t know any of the other shows….but they’re all PATHETIC. Like, it’s not that hard to change your life to what you see as “the better” on your own. But then these idiots with makeover and weightloss shows come in and everyone’s so desperate to be on them. I hate when people cry on reality shows, too. Suck it up. No one cares. </rant>
162- Spencer’s. That store makes me happy. I got my suspenders there.
AAH. Fangirls. Doesn’t matter what fandom they pathetically cling to the surface of. They should be done away with. As someone’s mentioned before, Harry, Ron, or Draco should die in book seven. Just so the fangirls will cry. I don’t know too many anime fangirls [whew!]…I used to read manga frequently in sixth and seventh grade…..I stopped, then….don’t remember why… And, when school starts, if I see one more picture of Billie Joe Armstrong or that guy from high school musical, I think my head will pop off. Sorry for the extra rant…
I’ll be off to nerd camp shortly…
Mein gott in Himmel, it’s hot out there. First day of band camp, which I have to ride my bicycle to and from. 3 mile round trip. On Thursday I have to do it twice, since I have (THE LAST FREAKING) driving class that day. By this time next week, I will be able to get my license.
I’m going to Lake Michigan in a week. That means I won’t be able to blog for a couple of days. But it’ll be in a week, and when I do leave, I’ll be back in a little while.
LAWWWLLLLZ. I THINK YOU MEAN ZACH EFFRON, THE UGLISET WOMAN EVER.
This smarmy girl at camp had posters of him, and it burned my eyes out.
(167) She’s a wannabe then. Don’t generalize. ♥
Okay, yesterday this weird thing happened to my keyboard. Whenever I typed something, something else would come up. Like when I hit the space bar, z§ would come up. and when I hit the 1, 1a-‘ would come up. So I switched keyboards with my bro.
I found a copy of Shogun lurking on my sister’s bookshelf, Grant. So once I’m done with The Monkey Wrench Gang I’ll get started on it. Has anyone read the above mentioned book? It’s really excellent. Especially if you live in the Southwest.
(162) have you discovered the wonders of smart punk yet? i marvel at the band merch, school shopping is there for me.
well, I’m back from camp.
And it was awesome. Three week long music camp, in the mountains of Colorado. Orchestra, chamber music, lessons, concerts, hikes (the last day, we went to Mesa Verde), etc etc etc.. oh my god. I want to go back next year. If anyone here is a string player, you need to go to it, Music in the Mountains, next year.
[gapas, if the mood strikes/you think mentioning it is unwise, feel free to zap the name of the camp.]
Nerd camp = Joy.
Tomorrow we’re going to *gaspsmile* the nanotech lab at U-Park…in State College. IN A SUPERCLEAN ROOM. Not just any clean room, a SUPERCLEAN room! Like, 10x cleaner than operating rooms! With those cute little white suits! It’s going to be sooooo amazing! *dances happily in sanitary nano-circles* *gasp* Like the nanonuts Chad made! And Feather ate! YAY!
Hello, Musely denizens!
I know I haven’t posted on the blog for a little while. Just soaking up the last of my summer. But now I am back in school (today was my first day), and I’ve no excuse not to post. Today was really rather dull. I mean, it was good to be back, but it was just one gigantic orientation.
Various Posts- I had strep when I was seven, and I had to get it on my rear end. Not fun. Especially since my brother was singing “Old MacDonald” in the background.
156- She was also Totty in The Curse of the Wererabbit.
163- Tell me about it! The guy who plays him now would be better fit for anything but Sirius!
170- Have fun!
171- Bleh. I hate that movie. Cruddy plot line, actors that don’t even LOOK like high school people, and way too many hierarchial stereotypes. It’s not entirely cliques, you know! A good deal, yes, but there are other things too!
Sweet Melpomene (176), I just finished editing an article on nanotechnology — so I happen to have some random factoids at my fingertips about one particularly cool nanothing called a nanotube:
A human hair is about 60,000 nanometers wide; nanotubes are graphite cylinders just 1 nanometer wide. Their strength surpasses steel, and with conductive properties 1,000 times superior to copper, they can enable faster and more efficient electronics.
Have fun in nanoland!
BUCKYBALLS!!!!!! HUZZAH!!!! They’re so cute!!!
ohmigosh…
an august thread! love the pic.
175 (Lizzie)- Sadly, I am halfway across the country from that camp. But it does sound shiny!
#168: LOL Are they just suspenders, or are they rainbow-colored or something. I used to hav a pair of rainbow ones.
Reality shows seem to be taking over all of TV, and it relly bugs me . Esp the ones centered around love. Ex: For Love or Money, Joe Millionaire, Who Wants to Marry My Cousin’s Friend’s Ex-Wife – Oh gosh, I don’t even remember the names of most of them; I stopped watching TV months ago. It’s all so stupid, but there is one reality show that I think is OK – Anyone ever watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition? It’s a good show.
#174: I luv that place! Gerard Way had a limited edition jacket there a few months ago that he had designed himself (But there were only 80 of them made I think).
#176: Lucky girl…
So I just finished watching P&P, and…I actually made some sense of it! So now I’ll – hopefully – understand the book more.
175- *waves* That sounds very froody…..I have not played my violin for some time now…. Oh, it’s quite far from where I live, too…
177- Hello! School already? How depressing. Orientations are sooooo boring.
178- That is completely amazing! Yay!
179- Yeah….but they really need a new name…
182- I’ve watched a few episodes of it….knocking the house down looks like so much fun. Actually, so does building it….. And then the people are so happy at the ende. It’s always so cute when there are disabled kids or something like that…
181,183- we actually had kids from as far as Finland, Latvia, and Japan. And Iowa. And Minnesota. And California. Many were from Texas, actually, since it’s run by a Dallas-area group.
“meltdown” is right- I keep getting error messages from the blog..
That happened to me a few times yesterday but not yet today. The program does seem to be responding more slowly than usual, though.
Bloody WordPress. Yes, that hapened to me as well. I used my tried-and-true refresh trick, which worked, but WordPress still annoys me. Grer. (Yes. Grer. Grer.)
Hi… I’m at the apple store right now. I want iLife… iLike iLife aLot. It’s really cool. You get an upgrade for iMovie and iDVD and a bunch of other stuff… this keybored is different. The keys are only 1/8 of an inch high. I’m not using my real email adress at the momrnt because somany people are looking at the computer over my shoulder. Well now I’m off to look at more stuff… oh how I love stuff…
Phoebes and I live in the Chicago-land area as well, can we meet up with you lot too? That would be fab.
189- Yeah sure!! How about on a september weekend?
189 (Zallie)- Sure, why not? It could be like a mini Kokonvention at Blind Faith or something. Now all we have to do is work out a date. From August 17th on, I can only do weekends (boarding school in the exo-burb with the Mary Sue name, remember?), and I won’t be here the weekend off the 22nd. Kiki’s on vacation this week, I believe, and she was all hyped about this, so we shouldn’t do it without her. When does school start for you guys?
BACK FROM NANOLAND.
It was very cool. But very cooold. When we got to the lab, we had a lecture on nanotech stuff–like medicine delivery, and geckotape. I seriously want some. A piece the size of the human hand can hold 200lbs. Intensely froody. Then we toured a clean-room-in-progress….they were still building that one. But we used an AFM on a piece of the plastic used on a DVD…we could see a 3D picture of the data embedded in it and a cross section that showed the grooves. Loudly crisp. And then we looked at a metal ring under a PSEM…and I printed out a picture of it…it’s in black and white, so it looks a bit like the moon… Then we suited up and went to the CLASS 10 clean room. There was no dust. At all. We looked at a really large SEM and the [cooler] profiler [I think that’s what he said…]. The profiler measures particles, and finds their shape by gliding a needle over them…it’s hard to explain… It was sooooo much fun. We’re going to the army depot in Tobihanna [I definitely spelled that wrong] but I don’t think I’m allowed to speak of what I see there. But basically it’s where things like night-vision goggles, survival radios, and missile-guidance [sp?] systems are made/improved/maintained.
By the way, Rosanne, they did speak about nanotubes. Yay.
191- Yeah, yeah! How about August 27th, that’s a Sunday.
Zallie, Pheebs, Penty, are you free?
hello everybody… im so bored now i can’t even be random and hyper like normal… HELP ME!
I think we should all retain an aura of mystery and NOT meet up.
SM (192),
I want some geckotape too. Glad the trip was cool.
#192: Whoa…Now since you know all about that froody nano stuff, might you consider, ah, helping us out w/ the whole Muser World Domination plan thingie?
(167) She’s a wannabe then. Don’t generalize. ♥
I’m not generalising. I’m providing an accurate description. =P
188. Jadestone: Haha. I got iLife for free earlier this year, thanks to Career Day. =D
192. Sweet Melpomene: Awesome. I want to go there. =D
Agreed. Those shows are pure garbage, as well as shows such as Big Brother, House, etc. etc. etc. It’s not reality TV in any case; if it were “real”, it wouldn’t be so contrived and heated. Now, AFV, that’s a real reality show, and a good one at that.
Extreme Makeover is corny, and it’s unfair. I mean, there must be other people like those people in need of a good home; why couldn’t ABC just build a good, normal house for all those people? They have the money, anyway. I don’t think it’s bad that they’re helping people in need; I just don’t think they’re reaching out far enough.
193 (kiki)- Er, possibly…? Sorry, I can’t really offer up definitive answers at the moment. I’d think so, though. Although we’re celebrating my dad’s birthday that weekend, so I’m not sure.
194 (B_A)- Visit the RRR. Hur hur hur. Such a shameless plugger I doth be.
195 (Otzi)- Mystery is overrated.
198 (DP)- I would say that Axa and I counted as otaku, and neither of us fits the sterotypes particularly well. How do you explain that? And yes, you are generalizing. You’re making a overreaching assumption based on very little evidence. That’s what generalizing means, doll.
Nobody is ever going to be able to reach out far enough. Nobody. We might be able to make a difference through the concentrated effort of the entire country, but until that time comes, I think it’s great that people are trying. Sadly, that time won’t come. So we have to keep trying.
Hmm… the title Project: Project just popped into my head. Maybe a network could try to improve housing projects or something and tape it? It’s more democratic, and it has a catchy name.
200. Kuai Zi Angel Pentatonikk: OK, you beat me. =P
I realise that. However, it would be nice if they could reach out to more than just 3 people a week.
That’s my two cents, anyway.
“Project: Project”? Urm…
Hmm… someone’s car alarm is going off. I wonder… :\
Hmm… les’se if ToCryllic works…
“И тхинк wе шоулд алл ретаин ан аура оф мыÑтеры анд ÐОТ меет уп.”
Yay! =D
196- But where would you even get that stuff? *looks online*
197- As a kokonspirator, it’s my job!
198- AFV is amazing. But I would never send in a tape.
200- That’s catchy. If I had a network, I would make that show.
We just got central air conditioning in our house and it is FREEZING. The thermostat is somewhere around 68. Must be Kelvin. xD
I GOT CROCS! Believe or not, they actually fit me. I also got two pairs of Soffe shorts. Yahoo!
GAPA!! I just had a brainstorm!! A brain- Hurricane!! Can you make a “You know you’re really obsessed with MuseBlog when….” thread? Pleeeeeeez? It ‘twould be hilarious!!!
*eyes pop out* WOW! I forget how fast the MB goes these days…anyway, sorry for not reading all the comments i missed, but they amount to over a hundred…actually, almost the whole thread…and i don’t have my glasses on. Anyway, relations are over. They gave me queen, which made me happy. and lotsa ice cream, and they hadn’t seen back to the future, so i made them watch it, and fun stuff like that. Oh and i woke up at 7 this morning wracked with pain over the fact that i forgot to bring back the CHotU volume 2. For two reasons-1: I have to pay right? well all my money just went skipping off to the awesome 32-room bookstore in german village. i am SO working there when i’m 16, that place is so froody. anyway, and 2: I’ve deprived everybody of an amazing book while it’s just been lying around on the floor. :'( Oh woe is me! JS got an email back from the musish people about the movie. She’ll probably tell you about it. If she doesn’t i’ll pie her. Oh she also has something for alternative slang. Actually i was supposed to post it but i’m feeling lazy. So just pester her cuz i probably won’t be on for a couple days. Actually, i should probably go eat breakfast now. Or “breffast” as Sarah calls it. See y’all..um…sometime soonish.
203 (SM)- I love central air. ♥ But when you have it, you need to turn the thermostat up a bit higher than you normally would, because the coldness spreads through the entire house much faster or something like that. 75-78 F is good, in my experience.
205 (kiki)- Yes, I do believe that would be a funny. Yes. A funny. Do not doubt my language. Grer.
Did you guys hear about the new Mac?
doesnt everybody hate warts and blisters??
megaman!
Hi all. I’m just stopping in to make this one, completely random, post, and then I’m off. I won’t be checking back in to see any replies.
I’m posting this because in a devotional book I’m doing, it had that as an activity we need to talk about our faith with someone who doesn’t share it. We’re also supposed to take a fast from fear and doubting God. Y’all are really the only non-Christians I’m in contact with at the moment, so y’all will be the ones to hear this. (If the GAPA want to move this to Hot Topics, that’s fine)
Launching right in; God is more than just a concept to me. God is more than something I believe in. He’s my creator, my best friend, and someone who will never leave me. When I feel like everyone in the world has rejected me, I feel God by my side, telling me He loves me. I know in my heart He loves me, because I feel Him there, and because I know He gave His life for me. I know I never have to be afraid of Him leaving me. I know He’s on my side, no matter what happens. He doesn’t expect me to be perfect, and He doesn’t look at me and see all my flaws. He’s my Father, and He sees what I can be. When I stumble and fall, I feel Him picking me up. When I’m depressed, He gives me joy. When the whole world seems to be crashing down, He holds it up for me. When nothing has any reason, He is my purpose. He is everything this world could never be, my reason to live, someone who hasn’t given up on me no matter what I’ve done.
I realize this hasn’t been a brilliantly persuasive essay, telling you all these logical reasons why God is real. The assignment was for me to tell you what God means to me, and that’s what I’ve tried to do. He’s real to me. He can be real to you. I won’t be checking in here, so I won’t see any replies. Once again, if the GAPA think this belongs in Hot Topics, they can move it there. God bless you all. I love all of you, and wish you the best.
Yoda, I shall obliterate you from the face of the earth.
208(kiki)- No. I’m in the market for a computer, though. What about it?
All I have to say, is justified true belief. Not getting into it. I just adore epistemology. Basically, the how do you know what it is you know.
Really fun to stretch it into things like: is that my computer? but how do I know it’s my computer? because I call it my computer? but that’s just a word.
Fun.
Link didn’t work.

so far my august sucks.
GUESS WHAT?????? I’M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!! SORRY I’VE BEEN GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hugs everyone* IT WAS SUMMER SO I HAD SWIM TEAM AND COULDN’T GET ON AS OFTEN AS I COULD…. *is sad that i missed so much* but anyways, I’M BACK I’M BACK I’M BACK!!!! so what’s new??? But I still can’t wear them all the time or else my eyes will be weird… plus they’re only a trial pair… BUT WHO CARES??? Sorry, this is a really really random post. Anyways, swim team has ended, I can go to my youth group again, and I can get back online!! I’ve only been able to check my email and stuff… So MG, are you back? I haven’t talked to you for ages!!!!! My august is going pretty well because swim team is over, I see all my friends more now, I have a lot more social life (hoorah!), etc etc… Anyways my internet is going on and off and on and off so I might be in the middle of a post and then it will go off and on and off and on… etc etc etc… like it just went off right now. wah. oh wait, it’s going back on!!!! my summer was great how was everyone else’s? i got rid of my old crush (he was such a loser anyways). I got back in touch with my best friend from youth group so my email is flooded to the extreme!!!! EWWWW there’s a bug on my lamp get it off get it off!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!! oh vell i probably should end this really long post… but my connection just failed so i shall write until it comes back on… =) HI ROBERT HI ROSANNE!!!!!!!! It sure is nice to be back! It would be especially nice if I got a welcome back thread… *hint hint* my internet connection is down again!!!! I’m going to ask my dad about getting it fixed…. *sigh* well I probably should end this really long post now…. ok i will…. bye bye!!! =)
216-
uhh…
hi.
211. MontgomeryGurl: That’s an interesting paper/book, to say the least.
Hmm. On the subject of Christianity/Catholicism…
Why is it held dear by so many Christians and Catholics that God – if he does exist – hates certain groups of people for who they are and how they were born?
It doesn’t make sense to me.
212 – apple.com
(gapa, make that a link)
[Kiki, I’ll let people type it in themselves since we’ve got a non-linky attitude on museblog when it comes to external sites — Rosanne]
ok gapa!!
You know it’s time for a part 2 when the random thread has dissapeared off of the “Most recent posts” sidebar.
hint, hint
We usually wait for it to break 300 posts.
#198: Yeah, I like AFV too.
#213: That reminds me of existentialism…All you know is all you are.
Girl in Metal: Awesome! =D
We need an AFV thread.
216 (kricket)- Hello to you too. A fellow–wait for it–RRRer! *collective groan from rest of the blog* I think everyone thinks I’m obsessed. Where would they get that idea, hm?
213 (SM)- I know my computer is my computer because humans need to name things in order for them to fully exist. I have named this thing ‘my computer’, so that’s what it is. If we didn’t name things, each person would be the only one floating in a void, surrounded by other ‘personal voids’. Since, by observation, we can tell that we’re not alone in the world, this must not be the case. There’s probably an official name for that, but I call it ‘lingualism’.
216- YAY! *pies*
225- Yay. But if we can observe things, do we really have to name them? If we can see them, wouldn’t they exist, too? No idea what the official name is. I just love reading about those sorts of theories.
225- Hello!!!!!!!
226- *pies Sweet Melpomene*
oh by the way, kitten says hi!!!
193 – kiki – I am, but I don’t know about Pheebs. I’ll ask her next time I see her. I go back to school on the 8th, I think, and she goes back on the 7th of Sept. Wed and Thurs after Labor Day at any rate.
Ahh, the RRRs, what fun they were.
Transliterate that. =D
I can read it, but I’m a GAPA (and know Russian).
226 (SM)- Yes, we see them, but we’ll automatically assign a label to them in our minds, thus making them exist in our personal world.
228 (Zallie)- Yes. Very fun. (All right. I’ll shut up. Meh.)
And kiki, I’ll ask my parents tonight if I remember.
(213) I talked about that some time ago. I agree.
231- Reminds me of the whale from H2G2…
I have absolutely nothing to say but i haven’t said much this summer so i’m going to say something. I don’t know what, but i’m going to say something now. This is not going to be something completely random and pointless, just to fill up space. I’m totally against that. I’m just going to say something random and pointless to fill up space, which is a completely different thing, of course. Now, what shall i say? *ponders* Hmm, well, i can’t think of anything to say. Guess i won’t say anything after all. Oh well. But i was so looking forward to saying something! This is a terrible disappointment to me. Saying something was to be an important milestone in my life. Well, i guess that’s life, just when you want to say something you find yourself completely speechless. I apologise to all bloggers for not being able to find anything to say. Maybe i’ll say something next time. I do hope i don’t blabber on when i do find something to say. Although at this point that’s not really a concern, is it? I mean, you can’t really blabber on when you have nothing to say, can you? Can you? Hmm…
(225, et al.) How do we pass along information without names? What would MuseBlog look like? For that matter, how would you find it? How would you pie someone?
Is drawing something another way of naming?
235- YES!!!! Drawing is awesome.
235 (RL)- Probably, since to draw something, you have to notice its attributes, which would count as a name. (Even if it’s something like red-square-heavy-looking…) Also, when you draw something, it’s your interpretation of it, which is a sort of name.
And you can’t pass on information without some sort of naming system, whether it’s spoken, written, or drawn. Some languages, the pictographic ones, blur the lines between writing and drawing. Still, ideas are communicated. Without things to call other things, we’re stuck in those voids I was talking about in post 225.
235- It probably would count. I just drew one of my characters in my story that I’m writing, because I didn’t want to forget what she looked like. Surprisingly, this drawing didn’t look like chicken scratch. It actually looked… good. creepy…. for me that is…
I can read it, but I’m a GAPA (and know Russian).
Heh.
Phoebe says “YES, I WOULD LOVE TO MEET MUSERS.’ And then she did a little dance.
Anyway, do we have a confirmed date yet?
240 (Zallie)- I don’t think so. I’m not sure I’ll be able to make the 27th. Are you all going away for Labor Day weekend, or could we maybe do something then?
238 (kricket)- Posssssst it. Posssssst it. I adore reading other people’s writing and then critiquing it mercilessly. Heh. ♥
Uhmm. Hi. I’m back from camp..but verry confused.
Hi. Again :]
To all who’ve written about naming: What thoughtful comments!
During my last rounds of school, the fashionable attitude towards the naming of things focused on power, control, hegemony. But weren’t the critics doing exactly what they accused others of doing? Can’t naming have other functions? Aren’t names also about discovery, celebration, revelation, and, very often, affection?
And I think you all are exactly right, that names begin to form as soon as one starts to make distinctions.
Aren’t names inseparable from relationships?
Look at how many decisions about naming occur just on MuseBlog! With this discussion in mind, I just read the ship’s log entries about the LIRs and thought wow, what an imaginative solution to the problem of naming. (You can tell I spent way too much time in grad school.)
Bye!! I’m going to Michigan for a week, so see ya then!! Bye!!!
235-238
are letters just very simple drawings?
YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY! THE SNOW! THE HAIL! THE SLEET! THE BONE BITING WINDS! THE CHILL! THE FRIGIDNESS OF WINTER BEGINS, ONCE AGAIN, IN AUGUST!
i luuuuuuuuuuurve cold. but hate skool *shudders* ah well. its freezing outside.
current weather according to the internet:
Partly Cloudy
Hi 81°F
what it realy is: low 40s, winds up to 4mph…. and rain. and hail. erm.
hooray its WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(246)
Oh you lucky, Washington based child.
Here in blasted California, it stays hot until well into October. Cry.
I’m back! Again! I have no idea what anyone is talking about! I think strawberry rhubarb pie is good!
I won’t be on much this weekend; like every summer, I’m dedicating a weekend to reading. Might check in a couple times…Just thought you oughtta know *faints*.
247- ha, you spoiled Californian- here in Texas, it gets hot in March and stays hot until November..
3 – MG! I remember you and we still miss you around the museblog!
I’m back from NJCL convention in Indiana and happy to report that study of the classics, contrary to popular belief, is alive and well in America. By the way, Robert (do you prefer to be addressed as Robert or Mr. Coontz?), have you ever been involved with NJCL? Several people at the convention mentioned your name.
Remember the turtle in Finding Nemo? “Dude! ‘Mr. Coontz’ is my father.” We’re Robert and Rosanne, as far as MuseBloggers are concerned.
No, I’ve never been involved in NJCL, though I support its noble goals. The people you met were just random members of my far-flung fan club, I suppose. That is, assuming they were saying good things about me. Otherwise, it must have been a case of mistaken identity.
People little realize the horrors of Chicago weather until they’ve lived for an entire year here. They say, “Oh, well, at least you guys get winter” or “Come on, it’s nice when it’s warm.” FOOLS. Winter dips below zero Farenheit, without many good snowstorms in recent memory. Spring lasts a week. Summer is hot enough that you actually can fry an egg on the sidewalk. (A-C and her brother tried this.) Autumn, at least, is nice. About a month long, with 50-70 degree days and pretty leaves. But the rest of the year (with the exception of the one week of spring) is horrible. *TRAGIC SIGH*
Our weather is very strange.
I just returned from New York…have I missed anything?
Who wants to sail the high seas? If you want to be a crew member on my ship, the Ooei, go to the “Ships’ Logs: Beyond Museica” thread. It’s here(internal link allowed, right?):
MuseBlog >> Ships’ Logs: Beyond Museica
Dear fellow Musebloggers,
I have decided to leave museblog forever. I swear that I wont do what MG did, and leave, and then come back. this will be my final post, and I hope, that you will all remember me. I wont give my exact reason for leaving, but I will tell you this- it is a medical problem, and is most likely terminal. I really had fun, and will always remember MB
PINKY!
We’ll miss you Pinky, especially I.
I should write some more here but I can’t think of much else.
hey, just checking in from my moms treo. huzzah!
no 2nd august meltdown, huh?
258- one meltdown per month is fine for me, thanks…
We will miss you very much, Pinky…:)
Is it about your mom? I hope she’s ok!
PSPoP-We’ll miss you. Best of luck!
we’ll miss you forever pinky!
260- what makes you say that?
Why do you say bye to pinky?
i mean, it’s not like pinky’s coming back to check…
i hate to be the pessimist…
and please don’t snap at me for being the pessimist…
but pinky shall go down in history of the MuseBlog…
Salut les copaines!
I am back from the big beyond known as camp (traditional, all-girls, seven weeks, Maine, blah blah blah) and have not been on the MuseBlog yet as there is no I-net access at my house. Gasp! Shock! This is through no fault of my own, and I am coming up with creative solutions to the problem. Example: I am currently at my long-suffering friend Dot’s house, with Tate, using her Mac (blerghy blerghy bleggonauts) and typing, even though I ripped some skin off my thumb and it hasn’t healed yet. Obnoxiously. I should be stoic about this-mein Volk commands it, blah blah blah, get off my back.
That said-how are things at the Blog? Has the GAPA thrown in the towel yet? Have you managed to overthrow the opposing factions in the Great Pie War, where anarchy and civil unrest take wing in the form of baked delectations flung at high speeds and innocent bystanders? Who ARE all those people? What’s Spencer’s? Who went to camp? In short, what the zarking fardwarks is going on here?
I will attempt to keep in touch, but I think I’ve missed quite a lot of history. Like being an exile and never hearing any news of your home country, then learning it’s destroyed. Awful!
Much love, many kisses, annoyed at Grant for his improper use of German exhortations and ejaculations,
Queenie J, who just learned that she’s inheriting the Garson Cheese Company and also learned fun dancing this summer
XOXOXOXOXOXOXO
It’s ok, Queenie J. I missed a lot too… i haven’t been on all summer… *is sad* but now I’m back! *is happy* I probably won’t be on very much because of school which will be starting soon… ok fine, about 2 weeks… noooooooo!!! i… wait, do i want to go back to school or not? hmmm… oh well….
bye pinky!!!!!!!!! hope whoever is sick gets better…
I have a question –
when did everybody start getting Muse?
i got it from the very beginning, way back when, when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth…
geez, i don’t even remember when… 1999, was it?
with the astronaut on the cover…
hmm…
i’ve got the issue somewhere…
*goes off to search for issue*
#264: Hey, welcome back! Actually, nothing much has happened here over the past few weeks…with everyone outside enjoying life and all (Yes, even me!). You didn’t miss a lot.
LOL, MI probably has the strangest weather of all the states. OK, today the temp went from 90 down to about 75, in…It has to be no more than two hours.
: )= : .
Random vampire.
Mwahaha.
My first issue of Muse was the toilet issue! Whenever that was…
hey I’m back! Haven’t read anything new… just saying hi!
256 (PSPOP)- Bye, then. For what it’s worth, I’m sorry about the medical problem, and I’m sorry that you’ll have to leave. We’ll miss you, even if you aren’t reading this.
266 (BL)- I started subscribing in ’02, but I’d been reading since way before that at my library. I currently own every issue except for two, though, and I’ve read the two I don’t own.
260 – Doesn’t her mom have cancer? And she said it was medical…
Mmm, I just had the best breakfast ever. OK, the local bakery makes these giant cinnamon rolls, that could easily feed four rather hungry ppl. Anyways, my father bought one the other day. This morning, as I was looking for something to eat, I saw that (Why they did this relly beats me…) the rest of my family had eaten pieces of the OUTER part of it (Why didn’t they just cut it + get a bit of the center?), and only the center was left. So that’s what I had this morning. The center of a cinnamon roll. And now it’s all gone. Sniffsob.
The center of a cinnamon roll is the best part.
Yesterday I went to the NFA (National Flute Association) convention in Pittsburgh. It’s still going on, but I just went for yesterday. I listened to a rather well-known flutist named Robert Dick give a lecture on circular breathing, I heard another rather well-known flutist, Jeanne Baxtresser, speak, and then there were the exhibits! The best part, in my opinion. I got a Nepali flute and a CD by a man named Cesar Peredo. I’d never heard of him, but as it was flute and Latin-style music, I didn’t see how I could go wrong.
274 (USECGO) – You were in Pittsburgh? That’s where I live! What part of Pittsburgh was it in?
266- my first issue was the loch ness issue (sep 2000), but there was time when i couldnt renew muse and so im missing all the muses in between the lotr issue and the black hole issue.
266- the first issue I got was the bead one, and then I started subscribing after the neanderthal one. So I’m missing an issue somewhere in there, and then almost everything before that except for 7 1998/9 issues I got off ebay…
I really want to read the toilet article- it seems like every letter in all the Muse issues I bought refers to it..
269- yay, e~a! *pies*
272- Yum. Except that would be _way_ too much sugar for me to have at breakfast.
It was in the convention centre right next to the Alleghany.
278 – oh, cool! We drive by there all the time but I’ve only been inside once (for a fencing competition).
274- WOW!!!! That sounds so cool! I play the flute too, but I’ve only been playing for three years, so I’m not very good.
My first issue was (I believe) the rare farm animals issue. Or whatever Jan ’99 was.
Hello lovelies! I know I haven’t posted in forever, but my computer got infected with a stupid little virus (things are still popping up every two seconds ) and I’ve been rather un-groovily occupied with megaliths of homework. I’m taking a break from science right now, so I’ll have to wait to re-acquaint myself with the blog.
So over the weekend, I paid a visit to Atlanta. Very fun. My family and I went to a Braves game. I must tell you, there is no sight more amusing than when the tomahawk song plays and everyone makes that gesture with their arms. On Sunday, we went to the Atlanta Aquarium. It’s colossal! I’d talk more, but time is running out for me to complete my homework, and I’d like to hover to the other parts of the blog.
My first issue was about maxes and
(Why do I always hit the “x” instead of the “z”? Take two!)
My first issue was about mazes and urban legends, I believe. It was also in ’99.
*gasp* me too! My first muse was the rare animals one!
By the by, I just wanted everyone to know that I am going to change my screenname to…what, I haven’t quite decided. But rest assured, it will be something illustrious and magnificent, as so befits my illustrious and magnificent nature.
Aye aye aye so much to post and so little time! OK.
First- Bye pinky, if you are reading this! We’ll miss your random craziness and that will always remember wonderful haiku you wrote when MG left.
Second- HELLO Queenie, you…err…. Fliegender-ing Der Wachtelschlag, you! (many apols, I don’t know a word of German). Camps sounds groovy. I went to camp too. It was phantastique. And congrats on inherting a cheese company.
Third- My sister started getting Muse in 1997 when it first came out and I inherited to subscruption.
There was more I wanted to respond to but I really must be going to bed soon. Why, do you ask? I shall tell, though the answer is sad. Today was my first day of school, and tomarrow I must return.
I shall be very busy in the next couple months, as school looks like it wil be quite a challenge, so I’m sorry I won’t be able to participate in the discussions and adventures as much. I haven’t checked the Ship’s Log page in ages, though I want to. But I’ll stick around as much as I can.
Anyway, the first day of school was pretty good. In fact, the worst thing that happened was that there was a scorpion in band, and no one wanted to interrupt the teacher to tell her about it, so I just squished it with my shoe.
This was highly unpleasant and made a very lound crunching noise, and I felt bad for needlessly killing an (mostly) defensless creature. But, there wasn’t much else to do, as scorpions are poisoness and everything…
But everything else was fine and dandy, though I am one of only 2 freshies in Spanish 3 and don’t know much of the stuff that is in a packet of what the teacher called “review”. But oh well. I’m pretty good with languages, so I will survive.
Anyway, toodles, and next time I come, I promise to respond more to other people’s comments.
256- Farewell!
285-if you start so early (you poor thing) do end early too?
Welcome to one of the world’s most insufferable deserts. Be warned: if you did not bring water, you will die. No, I’m not talking about the Sahara, the Kalahari, or the Taklamakan, I’m talking about Kenston Marching Band Camp! Which is even worse than last year. The ex-assistant band director, newly turned bossman band director, Missing, is having us do calisthenics and crap like that. Yesterday we ran two laps around the practice field, which wasn’t so bad because running is my forte. I would have passed him had I been allowed, and this is a weekend soldier! (National Guard. Yep, he has a crew cut. Heh heh.) We also do jumping jacks, counting every two as one, which means that when we do one hundred, we’re really doing two hundred. The same with the straight-arm overhand claps. That’s the part I can’t stand. Jumping jacks aren’t so bad.
I’ve figured out a way to hate a song you used to like a lot: play it in Marching Band! Which is unfortunate, since our first show is songs from the Shrek movies: All-star, Accidentally in Love, and I’m a Believer. Predictably, I have already played off all of them, plus pregame, so I’m “out of the box” for the period of time we use those songs, which is about two games I think. A week from tomorrow the band is going to play at Cedar Point, and Missing is having all the Geauga Lake employees in the band bring their employee passes to Cedar Point so they can use the discount-free-admission-whatever to get in.
Missing keeps doing something really annoying. When he’s talking about the location of someone or something, he won’t say “Look at where you are,” he’ll say “Look at where you’re at.” AGGHHHH.
I have decided to write a short story. A bit longer one than the others, and on a completely unrelated note. I’m going to be shooting for something like the length of Dragonseyes, that story written by whatserface, Phoenix? It should be smashing. You can return from the edge of your seats in several months, when I plan to have it finished.
285–A scorpion? Wow! I’m glad that your first day of school was good. Gee, you start early in the year.
My classes are quite easy. So why does it take me so long to finish the homework…?
Oh, Great Merciful Zark I doth wish I were in Algebra! The stuff we’re doing in my ADVANCED SEVENTH GRADE MATH CLASS is what I did in FOURTH GRADE.
I feel so underchallenged. But enough of my groveling…
Happy to hear your first day back was good, Skippety-Doo-Dah! And Grant, I pity you. You know, it’s always fun to write ridiculous MuseBlog-istic micro stories and put an enemy in as an over-the-top villain. That helps me cope when I’m frustrated with people. On the topic of short stories, I can’t wait to read yours.
I think I will check out the ship’s log and Museica.
288-ouch. i love the shrek songs. i don’t usually have this issue because we play stupid songs like don’t cha (???) and yeah (that wasn’t just a lame ending btw, it’s actually a song. Actually we played it last year too. but whatev) so yeah, we never play cool songs. or very rarely.
cedar point though, very froody. i would totally come stalk you if i could get parentals over there (although believe me, if i could i’d have been there and back several times over by now. )
hey skipper, first day back already? wow. mine’s next week. *sigh* i really don’t want to go back that much. oh well.
oh yah and my friend THIRREA’s coming over next saturday from migichan! (she’s a muser, but not a MBer despite all my efforts to convert her XD) fun fun.
oh and i’m going to a wedding on friday too. my cousin’s. i don’t really know him, i only remember meeting him once at my first communion. he was in high skool then i think. he had us all play baseball. twas fun. i remember the dress i had on-i utterly despised it. it itched terribly. i’m scratching at the very remembrance…anyway mom says we haven’t officially been invited to the reception, so she’s gonna see if they want us or not. i’m really hoping they don’t, because then we get pizza and a movie at the hotel and we don’t have to stay dressed up. (yes fellow musers…i have to wear…a skirt. *gasps, faints*)
Right and i’m totally rambling because i don’t want to go clean my room. Just so y’all know.
so i went over to danny’s a few days ago and played Risk w/him, matt, philipe (his name’s actually phi (phillip) but i call him phillipe cuz it’s so much more fun to say frenchified like that), tory, and courtney. i took australia and part of asia, but danny wiped me out. I went out third though, which was pretty good for my first time playing, especially against matt and danny (danny ALWAYS wins, and matt’s ALWAYS second. no matter what) Tory took courtney out first-she didn’t really have a strategy-then danny and matt took out phil, then danny took me out and completely annihilated matt.
So nobody really cares about that but i’m bored. Deal w/it. Mwahaha.
So mom’s kicking me off now…*sigh*
Hold on to sixteen
as long as you caaaaan
Changes come around real soon
make us women and men
Oh yeah
Life goes on
Long after the thrill
of living is gone
Oh yeah
life goes on
Long after the thrill
of living is gone
*bows*
#285: Scorpion? Eek!! LOL, We sometimes hav flying squirrels and the like running/gliding around my skool. Hehe They’re so cute.
Ha. I finally managed to dye my skirt. See, I have this relly cool skirt, and it’s v comfortable to wear in the summer / autumn, but…it’s khaki. One of the colours I absolutely cannot stand (I hav to wear khakis to work…Bleh). It took me three tries, but finally it’s black. Blackblackblack. Yessssss.
Attempt #1: Took half a bottle of black fabric paint + dumped it in a bucket of hot water, then stirred the skirt around in it for awhile. It turned kind of a dark gray, but it looked fine to me, so I rinsed it – and all the paint washed out.
Attempt #2: This time I decided to try red. Dumped an ENTIRE bottle of PERMANENT red fabric paint in bucket of hot water, and soaked skirt in it for awhile. It worked a lot better than Attempt #1, so I was muy happy. I hung it out to dry.
That night, it rained. Very hard. Time for Attempt #3.
Attempt #3: I actually took the time to go to the craft shop and buy some real fabric dye. I followed the directions, letting the skirt soak for an hour. Then I rinsed it a few times, and put it in the dryer. and hey, it actually worked! Who would’ve thought…
288 (USECGO)- I shall probably fall off my chair at least once in that period.
Sometime, I should post a part of my novel. But I haven’t written enough yet to make it worth your time.
Gah… this is why I’m eternally glad I picked instruments you have to sit down to play.
*claps*
I hate skirts too, Ebeth. Speaking of things i hate, i have a sort of a problem on my hands. See, I’m starting my freshman year at the public school after 4 years of homeschooling. These two sisters and their friend from my church who also go to the same school, out of the kindness of their hearts, invited me to come with them to do the two things that i hate most. Shop for a back-to-school outfit and do my hair. I don’t even wear outfits! I wear whatever’s sitting on the floor (my holding area for used but not used up clothes) and doesn’t smell bad. Besides that, i knew the younger sister rather well after going to New Orleans with her. I don’t know how to say this but she just drives me nutsos. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with her, and she’s good with a weed-whacker and she’s really freindly and amiable, but she’s just my complete opposite. It’s not like i hate her, i just can’t stand her. Shoot, now i feel guilty. So anyway, i ask you musuers, what should i do? It’s a good chance to make freinds at the school, but these people just don’t seem like my type. Then again, i usually have bad first impressions of people and i’m usually wrong and i usually change my mind. Should i try to evade this trip to hell? If so, is there anyway to do so without being extremely rude to these nice, freindly, but severely non-geeky people?
290-that is exactly what I felt like last year! Except maybe it was because I had a really intense 4th grade teacher. But, seriously, we did GRAPHING!!!!! In seventh grade. I’ve been doing those same kinds of graphs scence third grade!
292+295-We don’t have anything cool running around in our school. Just a bunch of crazy people.
Anyone hear that there are 12 planets now?
Not yet. A committee of the International Astronomical Union has proposed a new definition that would reclassify some other objects (the asteroid Ceres, Pluto’s moon Charon, and a couple of big objects farther out than Pluto) as planets, but it won’t become official until the members vote on it next Thursday (the 24th) at the IAU meeting in Prague. Not all astronomers are crazy about the new definition.
From a scientific standpoint, there’s really no need to have a strict definition of “planet.” There are objects in space. Some are big, and some are small. Some go mainly around another object; others go mainly around the sun. Astronomers are free to study all of them, and which ones they choose to call planets doesn’t matter a bit. It will be interesting to hear what the scientists in Prague say about all this.
How big is Ceres? Is it bigger than Pluto?
Haha, everybody’ll have to go back to kindergarten to learn the names of the planets. *sniggersnigger* lol
i have to agree with GAPA on that, who cares? it doesn’t matter whether its called a planet or an astroid or whatever, its still the same hunk of stuff floating in outer space
Ebeth (300),
Ceres is about 950 kilometers in diameter. Pluto is 2300.
