Back to School
It’s that time of year again, alas.

Life, the universe, pies, hot-pink bunnies, world domination, and everything
For starters, there’s a good “how to do homework” discussion on the original Muse How-Tos thread, which includes my own unique advice about How to Make Boring Classes and Assignments Interesting.
when do your schools start? Mine starts the 15th, although I was thinking it was the 16th for at least three weeks… sigh…
29th. I think I’ll start studying this year.
Wonder how long that’ll last…
My school starts Sept. 6 I think, the Wed. after Labor Day.
Is that early or late?
Third post!!!!(hopefully)
Mine starts sept. 11
My school starts 5 September, incidentally Freddie Mercury’s 60th birthday. ATYP starts the day after, hopefully I’ll be with at least one of my friends….Because of ATYP and my martial arts class I’m going to be soooooooo busy this year (compared to last year, I guess). Last year homework was a breeze and I had absoultely no extra-ciricular activities. Now that I think about it….Last year was my final easy school year. After ATYP, its four years of KAMSC and I’ll be keeping up my martial arts class. From there, its college, hopefully in Toronto.
I’m depressed. Those three blissful months of probation can’t be ending so soon….It seems like just yesterday I was thinking that I still had over a month left – and even that was scary. I wanna shrivel up and cease to exist….*whaaaaaa*
August 23rd
Or something like that. I’m gonna be freshman, so all the older kids will pretend I’m an imbecile even though I’m actually smarter than them.
*sigh*
Ugh.
September 5th.
(7) Exact same situation here. It’s horrible.
I don’t want to think about it.
That all I hav to say here.
*Leaves*
I saw the title of this thread and groaned aloud as a wave of newly recognized horror crashed through my brain, obliterating all traces of optimism. I start on the fifth.
I start September fifth, much to the envy of all of my friends, who start on August fifteenth. But even with the extra free time, summer is over too fast! I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had time to read. I’m not looking forward to having to schedule my days around homework soon.
I start the Weds (or is it Thurs, I don’t remember) after Labor Day. I’d like to rewind to the beginning of the summer, thanks, and re-do the whole thing, fixing things etc., before going back, but ehhh, I can deal.
I start the 17th of August. Less than a week of freedom, and then I’m back in the jug agane.
7(Veralidaine)- I am skipping freshman year. But then all the seniors/juniors will just pick on the sophomores instead (I’m going to a 10-12 school), so it’s not like I’m getting something wonderful out of it. Except there aren’t any lockers, so I don’t have to worry about being stuffed into one.
I start at the end of August sometime, I’m not sure of the exact date…I think the 31st. My brother starts the 22nd, and my sister starts the 5th of September.
7- hmm, that didn’t happen last year to me.. see, what you need to do is find your little “niche” and your gang of people to hang out with.. For me it was the math/science/orchestra geeks.. And then within that group there wasn’t any pulling rank or anything (although a lot of seniors seemed to think I was their little sister, probably since they’ve known me since I was about 6.. so I got a few ice cubes thrown at me while they were setting up the Interact ice cream selling table, etc, but they still respected me or something..)
August 22
Got my schedule too. Here ’tis, for all to see! It’s a pretty sweet schedule too, mebbe replace math w/french or something but whatev. I’m not fond of math.
H Eng 10 1
Journalism 2
AP Am His 3
Band 4
Gr Biology 5
Adv Alg 6
Latin II 7
Ta daaa
I have the dubious honour of starting on the 8th of September or some equally ungodly early date.
Most of my friends have moved to the high school. This also means that I am now in charge of the evil plan of annoyance, disturbance, and general chaos. I have the feeling that this is going to be a bad year. Sigh…
The only classes I’m looking forward to are English and Japanese.
Everything else is a waste of my time.
weeeeeee hahaha im gonna put up koko for prez posters for student council elections.
ok, so, you know how I’m on vacay? well, I get back the 21st, and my skool starts the 23rd!!!!
I got the bad chem teacher, so I think I’m going to try to switch my chem and latin, since then chem will be 7th which only the good teacher teaches…
Aaaah, Ebeth! I’m taking APUSH too! We’ll have so much fun!
& Penty – I know where you’re going to school! I won’t say it on the Museblog, because the GAPAs wouldn’t like it, but I considered going there too (albeit briefly) & I’ve heard lots of good things about it. It was too far away for me to get there by myself, so I just applied to the Selective Enrollment ones in Chicago and some IB programs instead. Hmm.
i start Aug. 28
how can you pipples start in SEPT.?!
i mean, you guys are so lucky…
but, you have shorter vacations and a later school year in the summer…
almost everyone in my neighborhood starts Aug 14.
that’s ridiculous!
Ugh skool… mine will start on aug 29. and i hate the uniform that ill have to wear.
I’m curious about some technicalities, namely, school supplies. I know I’m very particular when it comes to stationery. Are you? Do you have a favorite type of pen, binder, assignment notebook, backpack, etc.?
When it comes to pens, i absolutely REFUSE to use a ballpoint pen.
I like Rollerball pens, y’know, the kind that the ink just kind of runs out as soon as the pen touches the paper.
my binder is more like a briefcase- it’s got two pockets instead of one, a nice leather handle, and a shoulder strap.
as to backpack, I want a messenger bag but my parents are making me use the pack from last year.
for paper, i like to use wide ruled pads of paper. that way, i can write normally (big) or, if i’m taking notes, i write tiny kind-of shorthand. I mean, it looks like shorthand but actually it’s not.
#16: That sounds almost as hectic as my schedule!
I like erasable pens. Even though they do smudge a bit. And I always hav to hav a few games on my calc, Hehe *nerdy laugh*. I usually play Dino Puzzle. It’s kinda like Tetris.
I love ink-pens (the ones with the smeary ink!) but they’re expensive, so I don’t usually use them at school. I write neater when I use them, but slower too, so I usually use regular pens for notes etc.
23 (Zallie)- It’s supposed to be a really awesome school, but I’m kind of nervous. Today we went shopping for dorm supplies, which was…eh. Scawy. I don’t have a laptop, so I doubt I’ll be able to go on Museblog as much when school starts.
26 (OEAD)- I can only use college-ruled paper. Wide-ruled drives me crazy because the spaces are too big and I waste paper that way. But I prefer typing anyway. I hate ballpoint pens, but I end up using them regardless. Blue is better than black in this case. And far better than green, red, or purple. I refuse to use non-mechanical pencils. Sharpening drives me insane. (More so than usual, anyway.)
29 (GIM)- Dino Puzzle pwns. Oh yes.
I usually use pencils for everything. You’ll rarely see me with a pen in my hand. I also only use college-ruled because I write REALLY small and wide ruled gets annoying that way. I like mechanical pencils…especially for tests, etc. because you don’t have to waste time sharpening them.
(32), Purple Panda, I recall you said you’re ambidextrous. Do you write mostly with your left or right? I hated pencils in school because of the perpetual graphite smudge down the side of my hand and wrist. Ick. And then my assignments would be all smudgy as well, and I’d get nasty little notes from teachers.
i have this old but apparently very durable messenger bag with an incredibly froody fish saftey pinned to the front. as for binders- i don’t like them very much. dunno why. i mosly use notebooks with handy perforated pages. pens- i like ballpoint ones. i don’t like gel pens because they smear too much. mechanical pencils are quite cool, and i use them in classes where erasing is likely (math, science, art). wide rule pared is incredibly annoying. i can fit about four lines of my writing comfortably into one wide-rule line, so i always use college rule.
Woah, I haven’t been on for a few days…
I start tomarrow. The 14th.
I’m very particular about school supplies. I wanted to free my self from the curse of binders this year. In concept, binders are great, but in reality, they just mean ripped holes, papers that aren’t hole punched, papers that you can’t be bothered to attatch into the rings, broken rings, and many more hazards. But. alas, many of my teachers require them, so it is not to be.
I agree that college ruled is better than wide ruled.
I’m going to be very busy this year because of marching band. My high schools marching band is the biggest in… a certain large are which I will not name…. by at least 80 people. And my directors an mad woman. It’s hard work. Practices are twice a week and all day on most saturdays.
We’re going to march in the Macy’s Day Parade this year, so they’re being even stricter.
And I’m one of only 2 freshman in my Spanish class, so that is fun…
Slant-ring binders are much better than the ones with circular rings. Once I discovered them, I never went back.
How about book covers? Do you buy ready-made ones, or make your own? I always had good results with paper bags, but that may be like saying I went to school by horse-and-buggy (which I didn’t).
Finally, a hypothetical question: if Muse were to go into the school-supply business, and if you were on the design team, what kinds of new products would you dream up?
(Again, it’s a hypothetical question. As far as I know, the magazine has no plans to branch out into school supplies.)
33 – I really write with either hand. It sometimes depends on where I’m sitting. In Math class last year I sat next to someone who was a lefty, and I sat on the left of him, so if I used my right hand our elbows would be constantly hitting eachother. I used my left hand in Math Class. I’m a bit stronger with my right hand, though, but which hand I use really depends on the day/class/hour/minute/….
So today i totally got the desk parentals have been promising. It’s pretty froody-only $49.99 (yay for sales! It was originally $80) and it has lotsa kewl little shelves and whatnot. Nice. Just so y’all know, that’s my back-to-skool shopping. Sure i got some binders and notebooks and a new backpack too. Those don’t count. Oh and i got 60 pencils cuz the way i figure, if i only bring like 10 to skool i’ll lose them in the first 10 days, then the next and so on, that’ll last for 60 days, at which time i can steal lb’s. Last year i ran out sooo fast…oh and i probably owe some people too…anyway. Oh yeah and gave lb a whole bunch of books so i have space to buy more. Lots more. I gave him like 15.
So if muse did back-to-skool stuff…pens with little pie flingers on the end! You can buy the mini pies and fling them around in the hallways. Complete chaos. *evil cackle*
But seriously, i think cheap, small laptops with textbooks installed that can hook up to any printer. Just really basic stuff-word, internet access (yay for wiki!), mebbe some type of planner or calendar? and the textbooks of course. a calculator. graphing program mebbe. a skool email program? doesn’t need much memory or anything. Cheap, cheap, CHEAP! Bye-bye, Mr. Backpack! omg i would be SO happy if somebody were to make something like that…and the skool did it of course…it would make me a happy person.
After that, who needs skool supplies?
29- haha, I now have at least 9 games on my calculator- Mario, Tetris, Falldown, Fasttunnel, Phoenix, Phantom, slimeball (which is like pong), this weird submarine game, probably some others that I can’t remember, and the ones that came with the calculator (blockdude, some dinosaur eggshell one, and two others)…
I usually use college ruled paper, regular, non-mechanical pencils (at school- at home I use this nice really good mechanical one, but the ones I take to school tend to break/get lost so I just stick with regular pencils), pink pearl erasers (I name mine. All of the pink pearls are named Lenny. One colorific one I had once that actually didn’t work that well was named Manny, but the others are all Lennys.), a file folder-style binder, (I’ve tried to find a nice, all-cloth one because the plastic accordian pleats tend to tear, but so far I haven’t been able to.. does anyone know of one?) (I used to use ring binders but the rings always break for me and also then you have to deal with papers that aren’t punched, etc, and it just got to be too much of a nuisence.. but it is easier to find papers in one) regular pencil pouch, sharp pointy scissors, and of course my TI83+ Silver Graphing calculator, with the aformentioned games..
36- I buy ready-made cloth bookcovers, since they tear less and don’t come off and stuff.. And I buy the cheap, non-patterened kind also so it’s easy to find my books since everyone else has fancy, patterened, shiny ones…
In what way are slant-ringed binders better? What are they, anyway?
Supplies….I prefer pencils to pens. And with pens I only use black. And college ruled notebooks. With firm back covers. I hate the flimsy ones. And my olde, beat-up messenger bag.
<rant>
I really don’t want to go back to school. Seriously, everytime some person asks me if i like it my reply is usually, “it’s fine,” but it is beyond dull. My classes are boring, so I don’t want to bother studying, so I only do okay. As in low As. And the administration is so messed up. They wouldn’t let me in AP Chem. Honours Chem last year was my BEST CLASS. I got signed in, but I’M NOT A BLOODY SENIOR. Forget that half of the seniors weren’t doing as well as I was. Some of the people in my class couldn’t even add up the numbers of electrons in atoms. And Theology class [combined with an idiocy called Christian Service; because only Christians do community service] is [IMHO] a waste of life. We don’t even have proper debates/discussions. And Junior Research and Communications is pointless. I NEVER outline my speeches. It messes me up. I just learn the material and improvise. BUT APPARENTLY IT IS THE INCORRECT METHOD. And Spanish is also pointless. The teachers are, to put it simply, incompetent [sp?]. I don’t know how it is even possible to fail such a class. And the math people stuck me in Alg2/Trig. Not even Stats. Maybe I’ll call the school and ask to skip my junior year. That sounds like an okay idea, yes? *sigh*
</rant>
I color-code my binders. Usually, we get a list of what supplies are needed for each class.
If Muse made school supplies I would want each color of binder/folder/notebook to have a picture on it. Like, Urania on purple, hot-pink bunny on black. Also, vinyl doesn’t rip, so it’s much better for folders and notebook covers, though you can’t write on it.
31- yes I definately like college ruled best. Wide ruled is just so… wide.
I start on the 6th? 5th? the day after labor day….
42 – I think that’s the 5th.
I have this gigantic eraser that says “for BIG mistakes” on it. It’s funny.
#39: Yeah, blockdude is purty neato. You must hav the puzzlepack thingie also…Pegs is also a purty cool game.
I relly want to hav Frogger on my calc…
#41: LOL, That made me think of my choir folder – It has a few HPB stickers on it, plus this big one that says KOKOPELLI FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008!
I like the binders that are meant to be folded in half (so you can write on them; kinda use them as a desk. V convenient…sp?)
#43: Ha, I used to hav one of those!
…Maybe I should attempt to be organized again this year, and do the whole colour-coding thingie. It worked last year…Not a single lost paper.
31 – Penty – don’t be nervous! It will be tons of fun and you’ll get to be math/science-nerdy all the time! Hoorah!
You’re so lucky you get to go to a boarding school. Anything is better than my stupid, HUGE, high school I have to go to. -_-
The campus has expanded over the years to the other side of the street, so I’m going to have to be constantly crossing the street/ using the horrible overpass…ugh.
47 (Axa)- That is ugh. I’d hate to have to cross the street to go to classes. (Until college, that is, when I have less of a choice.)
46 (Zallie)- But I’m an English nerd… Oh well. Whatever. I’m in good classes, so I don’t really mind.
44 (GIM)- OMG! I want Frogger! My best games right now are Sn00d, Tetris, and Pac-man. Stupid calculator deleted Fallup. Sigh.
40 (SM)- Aww, how horrible. You make me glad I’m not going to my local high school, which is also horribly bureaucratic. Grr. Let’s make a petition for you to skip your junior year and send it to your principal! Power to the people!
1. Kuai Zi Angel Pentatonikk
I am still (blaaaahhhhhh) in Junior High. But this year, I might be in earth science. But I think that means I will skip my second year in Life science. I am confuzzled. I WISH the nice teachers would EXPLAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, thanks, Penty!
Boarding school would be amazing…*sigh*
If you guys could go to any kind of school what would it be?
i’d want to go to and international boarding school.
boarding skool would be pretty sweet, but i like my skool. it’s small, rich, and has lots of ap classes and stuff. Plus it’s really close, and i know at least half of my grade now despite only having been here for a year.
hey did anyone get school supplies yet?
I absolutely hate my skool.
…OK, Not the skool itself, just the stuck up rich snobs who go to it.
#48: I didn’t know you could put pac-man on a calc…Me wants…
[WARNING- RANT]
This year, I have Band(every day at school(which means no study hall) and all the football games), Tennis(4 days a week plus meets, I’m supposed to be comited 100%) and Ice Hockey(now a 45-50 min. drive from home, 4-5 nights a week, practices about an hour, we have to be there an hour ahead of time for games. So I’d be gone 3 hours for peractices and 4 hours for games), which I have been playing for years. But this is at a new place, cause my old on isn’t haveing a U14 team this year… plus I don’t know if I’m even gona make it. Tryouts are next saturday and sunday…*bites pencil in half* Multiply tha by all y homeworrk from Honors Geomitry, Honors Wrld History, Honors Reading/L.A. plus learning a forign language… I alo havn’t got my schedual yet and may not have any classes with my friends. *knaws arm*I am so not ready for High Skool…
I went to Wal-Mart today to get some school supplies. The expeditition, which also included non-school items, took two hours. I should have brought another snack and more water. Perhaps a tent as well.
Heh…this summer, I get up at 8 or 9 every morning. This means that after my morning run and shower, I’m eating breakfast at 10:30 or 11. So I’m not hungry at lunchtime, but at three o’clock I am starving and eat things. Then I’m not hungry for dinner.
I forget what courses I’m taking. I haven’t gotten my schedule or list of supplies yet, either. I have no idea what I’m doing. And this is my third new school in three years. At least I’ll be here for four years, since it’s my freshman year.
Good thing to bring to skool: Crystal Lite packets to mix into your water bottle. I’m becoming addicted to those thingies. The raspberry is soooooo good.
today my sister mentioned clothes shopping and school in the same sentance (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)i do not want to go back to school for at least 6 months and i loathe clothes shopping.
46 – Penty – yeah, so am I, which was one of the reasons I didn’t look harder at your school. I could have managed the math/science nerdiness, but I don’t think I would have enjoyed it very much. BUT, I have a friend at a similar school in NC and she’s just as much of an English nerd as we are and she’s loving her school.
(57) I never thought of doing that! I so am now, I’m addicted to Crystal Light as well. Iced Tea=Love.
(56) Aww, that’s rough… High School seems like it’d be easier to start new in though, somehow. -is nonsensical-
(55) Oh you poor overworked child. This is why I don’t do sports, I’d just end up killing myself or something.
My idiot school inisists on not giving us our schedules until the FIRST DAY of school. So I have to sit and rot away with worry until then. I never get in my friends’ classes…Sigh.
It seems like a lot more MBers are going into High School this year.
60- i don’t know wh yschools do that all it does is increase axiety and stress.
so i got my textbooks today…*dies* my english book is HUGE! i’m hoping we don’t have to bring that one home much. history’s the second biggest…then the rest are the usual completely unreasonable textbook size. Mom’s buying most of them online. She’s on a posture craze. She’s determined to make me stand up straight. Ok with me, i have less to carry home. Especially since i’ll probably walk a lot more than last year.
our schedules have been on centerpoint, so i pretty much know what i have and who with.
Ha, our school district is cool, we always get a double set. My backpack hasn’t been heavy since sixth grade.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I’m not in any classes with one of my best friends… *cries heart out* And in some classes I don’t have anyone! Plus, the PATS class(our schools gifted program) was together for Reading/math for four years but now is all split up… It’s so depresing. *curls up in a corner and dies*
Haha. I heard from someone today that my Stats teacher always comes to class 20 min late, talks for about ten min, and then lets ppl roam.
And I was afraid I wouldn’t hav a slack-off class this year…
Extracurriculars…I’m def not taking any sports, but I’m going to hav voice lessons, plus Chorale (Which does a lot of stuff outside of skool), and I might be in the Thespian club. Fun.
sometimes it’s fun not have classes with your friends, because you get to know other people.
(58) ahhh, i need to get new clothes. *sighs and generally commiserates w/ Z*
Okay, I’m still depressed at not being in the smae classes with my friends but had an idea. So, all us Musebloggers print out a couple of those Kokopellihedrons and take ’em to school. There, we place them stratigicly around the halls, on the school buliten bored, all that stuff. Put a star or circle or somthing on all the ones you hung up so you know it’s yours. Once that’s done, when ever you walk throught the halls to class or somthing, say you spot a kokopellihedron that you didn’t put up. That means there’s another Muser at you’re school. If you come across oe of these, write “PWT PWNS” Under neath the Kokopellihedron. If someone’s writen it on yours, put your locker number and a class period on the back. Then try too meet each other in the passing period before that class at your locker, and lo! You’ve met a new friend.
I’m going to try that in hopes of fning people, at least.
I’m going to try that in hopes of finding people, at least.
My skool’s so small i’m pretty sure there aren’t any undiscovered musers hanging around. I’ve worn my koko shirt far too many times, and i ask pretty much everybody i meet. But i may do it anyway, just to frighten random people walking down the hall. XD
I got my class schedule today! School starts Sept.6. I like school, but I have to wake up inhumanly early.
67-I’m not quite that desperate.
thats awful, my school doesn’t start till 8:30, *evil laugh*
I really hope that there are ssome un-discovered musers around my school. Whouldn’t it be freaky if I found out that one of YOU went to my school? That would be pretty freaky…
73- I wish other musers went to my school. Though I do belive I may have gotten someone hooked on it. Not yet I know of any musers.
My younger brother (Harry) is thinking about starting public school sometime soon. I can’t understand why. Homeschool is so much more relaxed. The teacher can focus their attention more on you, and you don’t have to get up at some un-holy hour.
I’ve only gone to public school once.
A cooking class.
There’s a chance I might do it again, and take Harry with me.
I go to public school to make freinds.
Since I don’t live in the city, and our house is sort of out in the middle of the woods, I don’t really have any freinds.
That’s why I like this place so much.
I’ll probably never see any of you (unless they decide to have a Muse Convention) but you’re all good freinds anyway.
Yeah, virtual friends are cooler anyway… (well not necessarliy but whatever).
I start an hour later than last year. 8:30 instead of 7:30. But because of the stupid bus schedual, I don’t actually get to sleep in at all. And I get home late too…around 4:20.
I love my writing/lit class! My teacher is such a weird, funny, acedemic-y sort of person. He’s into poetry and such. I kind of want to ask him if he’s ever read Muse… or I could just be sneaky and leave a kokopelihedron with a sign that says “koko was here” on his desk. That would be fun.
Indeed.
I have a week of summer vacation left.
This past week and next have been filled with required school band camp, memorizing music and doing a summer assignment. It wasn’t so bad. Read a book watch the movie and write a paper.
I start school before Labor Day . . . . . . August 29th
3 DAYS LEFT
Why is the title spelled “School?” EVERYONE KNOWS IT IS “Skool!”
Mine starts Aug. 29. Technichally, it starts Aug. 28, but the 8th grade has a party, which I would rather take poison than attend. The invit. mentioned ‘Large Inflatables.’ ?!?!?
Large inflatables, eh? How about something like this?
KOKOPELLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
!!
!
81-Fun! I got an ice cream today, and the guy I served it to had a Kokopelli tattoo. I entertained him by talking about Muse and the Blog until he agreed to get a HPB one as well.
66- Yupp I agree. though I still hope I’ll know someone in my class…
72- Yeah me too! High five for the 8:30 people!!! :]
I’ve got two more weeks. But ahhhhhh I don’t want to go :0
GAASSSPPPP. PURTY BALLLLOOONN. I wanna ride that…..
IDEA!!!!!!!!!!! IDEA!!!! w00t! if every museblogger puts images of the kokopellihedron, hpbs, etc. on their binders, then we will be able to immediateley tell who is a museblogger in our skool!!! That would be funfull. There probablly aren’t any of you in my skool. But still. Just in case.
81-I wish I could go to skool in a vehicle like that!!
Back in the jug agane…
36-A ready-made schoolbook cover? Um. OK. I’m sure it exists in the Kingdom of Robert Coontz. Yeah. If you can’t cover your binder in brown paper like the rest of us, you have ish. Cornflake ish. If Muse did school supplies, I would expect them to have Muse cartoons and be inventive. A Kokopelli pencil case with side compartments, or a divider (to keep pencils from leading everything up.
83-I meant “the guy who served it to me.” Hey, I just came back from a fam. reunion. It was bilingual-French and German were spoken, I was the youngest person there, and my grandfather’s secretary accidentally swore at me. Her German isn’t that great.
We have mandatory “organizational kits” to buy. They’re expensive, wasteful, and they don’t organize. They use up time and money, and they’re not very well made, as they break and snap and wear and tear. Ugh! This year Veefie gave me a Harvard assignment notebook, which is a very silly gift. Veefie’s my father’s cousin. She’s half-German, half-British, six foot three, platinum blonde, and really, really nice.
I start Sept. fifth. I didn’t know that until a second ago.
Alas? I love school!
Our school starts at 7:00 in the morning and ends at 4:00 in the afternoon. That’s a lot of school.
i start at some time in sept
however, two more weeks of vacation!
im going to denmark w00t!
some of thoe skools sound quite bad….
next year, when i go to HS, i wanna go to a skool
were they have college classes senior and junior year
sounds spiffy
now, i should be doing ,my summer hw
absoloutly mindless , menial tasks bore me…
#89: Jeesh! You hav my sympathy!
My hours are 8:34 to 15:20.
I would not want to be homeschooled. Both of my parents work full-time and travel a lot. I come home and there’s a note pinned to the door-“Have gone to Zurich (or somewhere) for business vacay, Hotel ___ (phone #) back Thurs. at latest. Try Thai restaurant take-out, ____ have fun.” Also, they have a habit of writing something down in several different languages, and doing things like being absentminded and dumping our dirty laundry in a refrigerator, not the washing machine. I say ‘a refrigerator’ because we currently have four fridges and three freezers. My mother works in food. Being homeschooled, I would stay home, probably by myself, all day, and have a patchy little education. I don’t mind going to school.
I weighed my backpack every day when I came home from school last year. Average weight-forty-five pounds. And I walked. Both ways.
I go from 7:30-14:00 though I usually have cross country running/cross country skiing/math team/theatre until 15:30-17:00 depending on the activity

Ditto, your highness. And what a magnificently appropriate quote that is. Up way too early, off to homeroom, moved from the lovely, spacious library with our hero nolan, who buys us doughnuts, to ryan’s cramped little math room with psychotic little desks and teacher who would never even think to get doughnuts and who makes us shut up during announcements. *sigh* Then to honors english, with more crampings. Practically everybody i know is in that class. It’s at least 25 people, if not more, v. small room and not enough desks. Plus the teacher is obsessed with the writing process and prewriting and all that, which i despise. And i’m doing Lord of the Flies for the third freakin’ time already! I hated that book when i first read it, but now…i still hate it. Ho hum. Then off to Journalism, which roxxez my soxxez-Horger’s really cool (she’s in book club) and phillipe, jacob, and andy-the-once-again-hairless are in my class. Big room too, so i finally get to spread out a bit. Then AP US history which is AWESOME! We only have 12 people in the class! and chappelle’s pretty funny too. Then band, where we get to trample the 8th graders off the football field so we can do pregame 304873904829034870870882374089327 times and bounce on the new turf (yes-the new turf bounces! It’s only like 3 strips of new stuff, cuz some idiots burned it last year. Jacob’s betting $20 that somebody’s gonna trip. As far as i know, no takers yet) After that, lunch in The Hallway, which has suddenly gotten very loud and crowded. The freshmen we’re friends with came (yes, we’re friends with some freshmen, the shame, but it doesn’t count if these people’ve been friends since like elementary skool, and i don’t count cuz i just moved last year when they were 8th graders) and a few others who weren’t around last year ate there. I know pretty much everybody, but a lot of them i know only as a vague, nodding aquaintance. Anyhoo, then i have biology. I hate the bio teacher, she’s so much like pautsch, it’s scary. Really overenthusiastic and yet utterly unhelpful. I doubt i’ll learn much from her. Math’s ok, phillipe and courtney are in my class, so better than last year. But by then the teacher was like “Ok i have a seating chart in alphabetical order…” and i was like OMGOMGOMGOMGKILLMENOW because EVERY SINGLE FRICKIN TEACHER HAS A FRICKIN SEATING CHART IN FRICKIN ALPHABETICAL ORDER!!!!!! And i’m always at the front!!! Only exceptions are journalism, no seating chart, band (dur), and latin (no seating chart). Latin is amazing, dur, it’s doc, what more can i say. There are a couple freshies who took latin 1 with pautsch for 2 yrs in middle skool (so sorry), 3 of whom i know from band. Of last year’s high skool latin 1, Ida, Mitchi, and Sari left, everybody else stayed. The only other person i really know in the class besides Josh now is Shayna, my crazy-good freshie (she’s in my squad, which makes her mine. Freshies are close enough to slaves anyway. of course she’s shared amongst me, david, and molly. Andy’s in the squad, but nobody listens to him, david and i are kind of “whatever, we don’t care” and so molly’s the only one that really ever makes her do anything. Molly takes over all the girl trumpet freshies whether they’re in her squad or not. Anyway, enough on band geek politics, i’m ending my rant now) So latin rocks, all together not a bad schedule. I have like 6 classes with Leah though, and in a fit of celiaesque paranoia, i’ve decided she’ll hate me by the end of the year. We’re not really bestest friends (she’s really hard-core theater, and i’m not so much, i’m more band), but we get along. Anyway, rant about skool over now, off to sleeeeep!
beware several rants:
so today I went to registration, and it was soooooo disorganized! It LOOKED organized, but it so wasn’t. there were supposedly five stations. but there were four. they had signs for each station, but at the station 3 sign, there was station four, and station 5 didn’t even have a sign so i had to spend like 15 frikin’ minutes trying to find station 5 when it turns out that the principal is actually station 5.
my school is being so dumb. I’m a freshman, but i tested into advanced algebra during summer school, but I want to get into trigonometry, but I was only 3 points off. so on my schedule it says that i’m going into advanced algebra, of couse, so i ask the principal how i can test into trig and he launches into this LECTURE on how i might not have a class in junior/senior year because they only have a temporary advanced calculus teacher this year and i’m thinking “Dude, I don’t even WANT to take math in my final years! I want to take Trig, so that in my final years I can focus on MUsic!”
argh.
All of you pipples are fortunate – my hours are 7:20 to 14:18
ugh… so not looking forward to skoole…
(94) Ebeth, alphabetical seating isn’t always bad news. My freshman homeroom class was arranged alphabetically. None of us Ls & Ms knew each other starting out, but between biology labs and marathon games of rummy during assembly periods, we got to know each other very well. The girl who sat behind me quickly became my best friend, and she just as quickly decided she would one day marry the boy seated next to her. They’re still together.
Penty officially loves her school. She wishes Zallie were here, though, because then she’d know a Muser and it would be froody. But she’s made lots of friends, some extremely insane and all quite wonderful. She ought to introduce them to Muse sometime, or at least Museblog. You’d get along.
The classes are great, really interesting, even the humanities ones, which are, of course, the ones Penty’s interested in. (Lots of commas there.) The teachers are cool; she has very few textbooks, and less homework than she would at her local school. She also has a very nice roommate and a bunch of demented squid pictures stuck around her room. So she’s happy.
Even though the band teacher is a sadist and is making her play first bassoon on some very evil music indeed, and her classes start at 7:30 and end at 3:50. She has breaks, though, so she does not really mind the latter.
If any of y’all live in Illinois, you should definitely consider Penty’s school. It’s awesome.
First year of high school. *sigh*
My school runs on a tri system. This tri, non of my classes are really interesting exept for Spanish. I lurv spanish. but…I SIT NEXT TO A PERVERTED BUSYBODY IN SOCIAL STUDIES!!!!! He got a firework blown up in his face this summer. He deserved it.
Second tri is probably the best, because the only core class I have is Honors English, and I have a study hall right after that. And then ART! I lurv art as well.
I don’t know if there are anly musebloggers at my school. Maybe we should put stuffs on our stationary…
Well, so far High school sucks for me. Why, you ask?
And even if you didn’t ask to bad cause I’m going to
tell you anyway. Let us review my day:
period one- honors Global history. Not to bad, the
teacher seems nice enough. However, I am not a SSS
person. Too many iThis was probably one of the better
periods, though.
period two- honors Geomitry. Well, I sit in the very
front. Not just the first row, but the one ahead of
it. And it’s right in front of the teacher. Plus, no
one else is on either side of me(Lianna is behind me
though. My one comfort). So I’m stranded. Then, when
we went to get our books(by row), I come back and look
at my chair(thankfuly) and find someone has placed a
tac on it. This does not seem like a good omen. *sigh*
period three- hnors English. This seemed okay, the
teacher was nice enough. A bit creppy, though… but
not mean or anything. I sat next to Lianna, who I have
decided to make in charge of my sanity sence it’s no
good sticking it on me. *gives L sanity* I won’t be
needing this back.
period 4- spanish. not to bad, but there’s no one I
know there. at all. Plus it’s in the D-wing, so I have
literaly to sprint to my locker and then to lunch
period 5- Lunch. I arived out of breath, having just
ran from spanish on the other side of the school. I
sat at a table in the middle with L, who almost got
food spilled on her head. Tomarrow we plan to sit on
the stage so our back’s arn’t facing anyone. It’s like
a war zone.
bewteen lunch and bio- I went to my locker, got my
stuff, fiddled with my binder for a few seconds, then
me+L realized there wasn’t a bell and we should start
to go. we were walking, met upp with Paula. She asked
us where bio was, and L and I realized we didn’t know.
So we ran down to the d-wing, realized it was the
wrong way, ran down to about the commens, still the
wrong way, used the hallway I’d thought was a short
cut but hadn’t wanted to risk before, and finally,
exausted, stumbled into our classroom.
period 5b- Biology. Got a lecture after ariving late
in class. She doesn’t tolerate “I got lost.” She’s not
a good teacher, I can tell. v. morbid. Meh. And I like
science too.
period 6b- study hall. Don’t worry, I won’t rant about
it too much. I explained most of it allready. Just two
things- one: I know only 2 1/2 people there. two:
there’s a seating chart.
period 7- band. Not much to say really. It was okay.
period 8- Gym. Again, not much to say. We just got a
long dull lecture on no stealing and stuff.
Now. You probably think my lovely day ends there,
don’t you? But oh no. That’s just the begining. Now,
we move ahead to tennis practice.
So, we’re supposed to get our uniforms from the head
coaches ofice. Or was that tomarrow? No one remembers,
but we settle on today. Then, none of us know where
the coaches ofice was, or anything for that matter. So
I’m stab=nding with another girl, glad I’m ot alone
and I have to go to the bathroom, and when I get out
she’s gone too. SO I go down to the sports
administration ofice and ask them where tennis is, and
they make an anoucement butno one ansers, and make
another anoucement but still no one asers, so then
sugest I run down to Osage park(cause the high school
courts are under construction), so I run halfway there
before I have to walk(I’m at the bend in the road just
before the middle school).
Then, this kid on a bike truns so he can cross
the street, and a car comes around the corner and hits
his bike(just the back end) he falls down, the lady
gets out of the car and is all
“areyouallrightohmygoshi’msosorryIdidn’tseeyouohmygoshsSOMEONE
CALL 911!! So a lady comes out of the house, and
bikekid is all like “no it’s okay i’m fine,” but he’s
holding his head and from what I saw it was pretty
likely he was cuncussed. so they call 911, and I keep
going sence I was late for tennis as is, and a few
min. later the cop car and moter cycle and ambulence
and another truck with lights roll by(they were all
about 100 yards down he road, actually). So I get to
the tennis courts, and by this time I’m really tired
from all that running, plus I’d gotten a cramp and so
I’m no to pleasesed to see that there are only a few
seniors there, and one coach. The’re all like “where
is everyone?” And I tell them I don’t know, and
another senior pulls up in their car and says “Hey,
did you all get you’re uniforms?” So I ended up
driving back to the high school with them, and there’s
the ambulence and cops and stuff, and hey say “I
wonder what happened?” So I told them I saw a kid get
hit by a car and the’re like “WHAT?!”
So when we finally get to the middle school aand
figure out where the uniforms are, I end up having to
have to get an extra large skirt and a large, old
shirt leftover from last year cause I’m so late, and
by this time I bet you’ve guessed that Ive got a
pretty bad headache. So when people asked what was
wrong all I would say is “I have a headache,” and no
one had any asprin and the nurse had left. So then
after all that I walk all the way back to Osage and
practice. That part went okay, probably he best part
of my day.
So. High school sucks.
*sigh* Sorry for the rant, but I had a lot to rant
about.
Poor JS! Some schools are just brutal. That tack [or pen-cap] on the seat is one of the more annoying things. I didn’t know anyone in most of my classes. Well, I did know, like, two, but, because of alphabetical seating, we sat nowhere near each other. I’m on my third HS. And I don’t have many [non-virtual] friends. Bio teacher sounds mean. It’s just horrible when mean teachers ruin cool subjects. I have a friend who got stuck with a huge tennis skirt for a while. Which sucked because she’s about a size -1000. I’d be completely freaked if I saw some kid get hit by a car. Take a nap!
School for me now does not start until Wed. But my schedule is pretty cool. Only four classes each sem. But they’re reeeeeeally long. And art isn’t until last period, sem. 2. And I still don’t have a locker. Not goode.
But I’m going to be in this program called “Gifted” which is pretty much a legit reason to cut class. Farewell, English!
Oh, no. Mi madre is home. Will continue later!
I’m going to an arts school for writing, and you have to audition, and there were 99 people who auditioned and 12 who got in
A girl in my class saw a pedestrian get hit last year and she was so scared she couldn’t come to school. She’s never been what you’d call resilient.
Ehhh…
Yesterday in study hall before we changed to different asigned seats, I wasn’t doing anything because I’d have to get up and move son, so I listened to the conversation bewteen the guy next to me and the guy next to him. Here’s the conversation-
Guy next to me- Sup?
Guy next to him- Not much.
GNtM- Do anything this weekend?
GNtH- says nothing but shows him somthing
GNtM- Sweet. What did you use?
GNtH- Razor blades. I like them better than knives, becaue they cut you but not to deep.
At that point I nearly freaked out, and turned to look at him, and his arm had about ten scars on it, starting at the elbow and continuing down. That really made me upset that people would do that then. After that we moved seats.
6 days………………. no schedule………………….. 6 days…………………….. no schedule6 days………………. no schedule………………….. 6 days…………………….. no schedule6 days………………. no schedule……………..
IS THIS GOOD OR BAD!?

I’m not sure when my lunch is yet.
104: that kid needs some serious therapy. Turn him in to the teacher.
My school is tiny, so everyone is kind of like a big, dysfunctional family. Not necesarily a good thing.
Akkkk! tomorrow!!!!
#108: You’re lucky. My skool’s like a big, totalitarian mini-city whatchamacallit. Big Principal is watching you.
Well, at least I am not in elementary school, that oh-so-(seemingly)-long ago. When I was in third grade, my teacher let us take home baby chicks, and my ebil principal took mine (supposedly they don’t allow them on the bus) and….. SOLD IT TO A CHICKEN FARM!!! WHERE THEY RAISE CHICKENS TO EAT!!!! 0.o I have never looked at a chicken leg the same since.
It was tragic.
But other than that, Yay school!
Yay school, indeed. 7th grade, here I come!!!!!
Mwa ha ha ha!
Hey Fellomuser! Does the phrase “M” and “School” Mean anything to you?
Capricious: I joost got back farom Far Far Away zo noow I ‘ave an accent.

Septembedr Feefth ees when school starts, alas.
Septembedr Feefth ees when school starts, alas. Sayonara!
Mine starts September 6th. Strangely enough, I can’t wait!
First day of school. Bleah x1000000. The goode thing is that there are only four classes each day. They’re really long, so I can get my HW done during them. w00tness. I’m just trying to change my US Government class to something else. It’s going to be one of those stupid classes where you don’t really do or learn anything. Aargh. It may mess up my lunch, but I don’t really know anyone in it. I wasn’t even there mostly, because I was finding my locker. I loathe history classes. History is cool. History class is not fun. My sister says, “Hi.” Againe. Over and over. *sigh* Seriously, though. It’s sad.
And I couldn’t find my bus. Why? Because there are about sixty busses and I couldn’t look through all of them, because number 12 was not on the bus map. Neither was fifty-one. But we finally found it. While asking some random school admin where it was, my sister started imitating this one guy’s face. It was soooo funny because he made the weirdest expression and she did her impression perfectly. Just in time for her one friend to see from the window of his bus. Priceless. Like MasterCard. Only not. He was laughing at her and I don’t think he saw funny-face-dude. Which made it more funny.
But my Spanish teacher doesn’t like me. Why? Because she named me Guadelupe, of all things. Every one else in the entire class had names that were at least vaguely like their first names. But I got Guadelupe. *dies* Though she did make a Law&Order:SVU reference to my name. Very cool. And I sit by one of my friends, which is also cool. Except we get glared at for talking. And here, my sister says, “Tell them I admire them.” I don’t know who they are. She says, “The Mu-sters.” She’s very odd. Like now, she’s laughing like mad. For no reason. Okay, there is a reason: insanity. Back to the other topic, though.
Sorry for the huuuuuuuuge post, by the way.
It gets weirder and weirder transferring. Because every one is so tightly wound together, you know? Upperclass[wo]men probably do. Ah, well; it’s only HS. I’m over it. And I didn’t even get lost on the way to my classes. I don’t socialize much, either. *sigh*
Chem is going to be bloody amazing. The teacher is veryvery cool, and the class is veryvery small. I hope I just have enough chem background. Probably. SigFigs. w00t. And quantum mechanics. Which are really simple but sound hard. Then stoickiometry. Which is also very easy and mathy. Like the shirt my 8th grade chem teacher had:
MOLE. NOT THE ANIMAL. with Avogadro’s number on the back. Very cool. Almost as cool as Carol.
And calc will either be very HUZZAH or very ZURG. The teacher is the cheerleading coach, but I think she knows what she’s doing. Whee. But I was late because my bus was a full half hour late. I do not like the public school transportation system. Or polo shirts. They came up with a weird dress code. But whatever, I can wear sneakers.
I’m a bit bored right now. And that was a useless statement. I should be covering my textbooks or something like that. *booksoxattack* Done.
In essence, school is weird. But you all knew that already
*sighs againe*
I want school!!! Only I need to clean my backpack from last year and set up my supplies. A week until Sept. 6. Actually, I want school that starts at noon and ends at 6 pm. My school starts at 7:30 am, and my bus comes at 6:50 only it really comes at 7.
My school is supposed to end at 2:09 pm, only I’m a grade ahead in math, and since 8th grade is the highest in my school, me and 13 others get to take a bus to the high school for ninth(last) period math. Confusion.
119 (SM)- I think we get to make stuffed moles in my chem class next semester. Funfunfun.
120 (c&q)- Lucky. I had to take accelerated math first period. Math first period is not a good thing. Oh, and getting out at three isn’t so bad. I’m stuck for another hour, and I start at 7:30, as I’m sure I’ve complained about already,
110 (GIM)- She loved Big Principal.
Today in Spanish, our teacher was trying desperately to get some people to roll their Rs properly. And what words did she use? Names actually. Roberto and Rosa. I was like, “OH EM GEE GAPAS!” It was so weird.
PUZZLE!!!

skool strts sep the 5th for me *groans* last year i did as little work as possible but i still managed to get on high honor roll…for all 4 quarters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok. God i hate skool
My school runs with four periods a day, each period 90 minutes long. There are A-days and B-days, and they alternate. On B-days, I have “academic lab” which is study hall, but after five weeks I get a free period instead. And after five weeks, I can go out for lunch to Schnucks, McDonalds, Rally’s, Panera, or Arby’s. That rocks.
Is anyone taking Latin? I am. there are so few people taking latin that years 1 and years 2 have to share a period and room. the total number of people in the room is eleven. that’s just sad.
My problem, though, is that I’m taking Algebra 2, and I’m the only Freshman in my class. It really sucks, because it’s mostly juniors and they’re all like scary.
And my middle school, in 8th grade, taught us Freshman Lit. and American Gov., so even if I did pass the class in eigth grade, I have to take it again.
It was so funny last year, my civics teacher didn’t teach us anything, so on the final, the passing grade was 70, and I got 71. I’m so proud. And I still got all A’s. And I was missing about four assignments out of eight. And people who got 80 on the final and turned in all assignments got B’s. heh heh. the teacher played such favorites…
I just had my first day of high school, which is in Switzerland largely agreed upon being a few 10 times tougher than american high school. No offence. It’s not even obligatory, I could work instead, but I’m one of the few elite who actuall go through with this crazy stuff. Bloody ‘Ell. I’ll be posting an awful lot in the HW thread soon.
125-it sux about your being the only freshman. in the hs around me, the advanced math class either takes algebra 2 or geomatry in 9th grade, and then the other in 10th.
do you mean juniors, or did you mean sophmore? casue if it is junior then you are waaaaaaaaaaaay smarter then most of your classmates( no offence to them) if you ment sophmores the nyou are only smarter then the rest of your classmates
126- never haveing looked into high schools abroud, what makes them so much harder?
tomorrow,at this time,ill b drained!!!!!!!! nooooooooooooo
ooooo!!??!!from skool!u guessed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started Aug. 23 *groan* , and have little interesting to look forward to …. you highschoolers are so lucky!!!!!!!
Me and my best friend Paul are the only people in the entire school who wanted to come back to school.
127: I don’t know, but I think it’s just general knowledge that swiss schools pound the hell out of you.
