Cool pic! Makes me think of chess……
Anyway, I really should be getting to bed soon. Meh.
…..first post? *is hopeful*
And now I see the people, instead of just the, er, well, whatever they are….Candlesticks? Unidentified works of art?
And I’m being annoying and double posting…..Oops.
Vases, pedestals for statuary or plants…. I was originally going to choose one, but decided a group would be more fun.
Nice picture!
Those picture will be dancing in my mind for awhile. I always seem to see the background despite the coloration.
This reminds me of those pictures that can depict two things. Like the could be faces or a vase. Or it could be a young woman or an old woman.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh. You just had to make 4095 equal 23, didn’t you? After I’d decided it (happily) didn’t work? I’d not thought about the multiplying bit, just switching up numbers and adding/subtracting. Now you’re going to have me going back and reviewing all the numbers my brain already wrote off as not “working”. *headdeskheaddeskheaddeskheaddesk*
Isn’t this what math geeks are for? I’m constantly playing around with numbers in my head.
Sure, I suppose it is. You already have me scribbling all the birthdays of my immediate family members on the back of my organic chem notebook, as I frantically try to make them equal 23. And fail. 24 is the closest I get with any of ’em…..
24 seems to be my luck number. My birthday is on the 24th of the month and the digits add to 24. Of course, my birthday’s on the 24th and my sister’s is on the 22nd and you can take the arithmetic mean (I’m feeling math geeky)…
I hate you. I have now managed to get my freakin’ home zipcode to equal 23 with some creative rearranging and so on and so forth…..Nooooooooooooooooooo. You are evil.
Just so you know.
And my cell, provided i leave off the area code. When I turn into an insane murderous lunatic, you’re first on my hit list.
I love you too, Luna. I’m geting a lot of things to work with 24. Maybe it’s because it has more factors. (Another way to make a number work is to add up factors, at least if you can factorize quickly.)
Do I even want to know what alll this is about?
My sis and I watched a movie entitled “Number 23” over Thanksgiving break. It’s a horror/thriller type movie. This guy reads a book entitled “Number 23”, and starts noticing weird similarities to his own life, the number 23 cropping up everywhere: His birthday (Feb 23), his address (1418), the name of this dog he keeps seeing (Ned).
1418: 1+4+18 as well as 14+1+8
Ned: 14+5+4
Starting shortly into the movie, my brain started calculating out every number it could come up with that related to my life to see if it could make it equal 23. Ever since, I keep seeing the number 23 all over the place, as my brain takes every number it sees and tries to make it equal 23.
Yes, I’m insane. I don’t deny it at all.
I just know I’m going to start doing that too now.
Hehe, sorry……
I use “23” at the end of “screen names” and passwords a lot, I really don’t know why…
That’s exactly it, it’s an exercise in figure-ground perception, a picture that switches depending on which part you see as foreground and which as background. It also happens to use symmetry.
In most figure-ground exercises see both images simultaneously, or at least that’s how I experience it. This one is especially weird because I see the composite figures, too (where one Muse merges with another — looks like the two outer figures are wearing parkas).
Very interesting. I don’t do art (at all), but from a scientific perspective, it’s quite intriguing.
Actually, in one of my classes this semester, we worked in partners to conduct some form of scientific research. One group researched the double-image pictures. Apparently, for most pictures, significantly more people see one of the intended images. However, males and females perceive them the same way.
I LOVE optical illusions!
Ach, now the only thing I see are Chad and Urania wearing Parkas.
oh this kind of picture always makes me unfocus my eyes until I feel quite loopy…like those other pictures where there’s a hidden image but you have to hold it close to your face (or far away?) to see it.
It’s great though!
I can’t believe it’s already December! Time flies!
Woahhh….. 0.o *stares at picture* *is tired* One should not look at that when they’re tired and it’s nearly 0200.
177.2~ Yes, hello Piggy. It’s good to see you too. I’m vegan, so eating cheese is kind of out for me…
186.3.1.2~ “Surely you weren’t under the impression that GAPAs were (how shall I put this) normal?” You are marvelously quotable, good sir.
And Piggy, I’m sure you’re not going to fail. Though if you do, I can’t say as I’d be horribly upset, because then I’ll have company, yay! Even if it is you. Meh, better than nothing I guess. Just teasing.
Well, I’m ba-ack! Aren’t you devastated thrilled? I thought as much.
Good flight home, they actually controlled the air pressure in the plane (amazing concept!!) so my head didn’t feel like it was going to implode, explode or do some other unpleasant thing when we were going up and coming down.
Little nervous about flying by myself next time, but I’ll survive, I have up to this point at least.
I’m tired. Very tired. I forgot that I now have a lock on my door, so I collided with it trying to open it, ended up dropping all my bags and having to root around for the key. Oooops, that was a fail.
Good morning! What a fantastic idea for a thread theme, and what an amazing artwork by Lady B. at the top, as always!
Welcome home, Fern!
Hi Speller, do you mind sharing the number 24? I have also thought it my lucky number for many years, although my birthday is actually on the 25th of the month. Okay, I just convinced myself it’s 4:30 am, as if I needed to: my exact birthday is 10/25/94. The sum of these numbers is 21, if I can add at this hour *hopes*. The average of 21 and 25 (the day number) is 23. Also, the sum of the digits in 1994 is 23. Why on Earth do I think my lucky number is 24? Am I just being optimistic/happy by adding 1? *puzzles*
If I managed to get my numbers right at this hour, I am optimistic about my understanding of precalc lecture later this morning!
Have a great day, everybody! Sorry, Luna!

4-Yes, it was a spectacular fail.
Good morning everyone! Rise and shine!

My birthday, my sister’s birthday, my dad’s birthday, my friend’s birthday, my mom’s birthday with some finagling, and the year I was born all add to 24. I’m seeing it everywhere. (I blame you Luna…)
Blame my sis, she’s the one who wanted to rent the movie, due only to the fact that the description of the movie printed on the back of the DVD case was written in French, as well as English.
Wow. I really can’t believe it’s December already. Where did ’09 go?
String Orchestra concert tomorrow…..wheee!!!
It’s middle school and high school orchestras combined, but I’m still able to sit at the second stand, in front of most of the high schoolers! WHEEE!!!! Since I get to play the solo for one of the pieces (St. Paul’s Suite) just in Middle School, and also for our competition, so instead of excluding me for the concert they moved me up! SQUEE!
Sorry for the overly-hyper-ness. I am happy.
Funny, the first time I saw this thread I focused on the people on top and vases on bottom, then the other way around…
The first time I saw the vases on top, and then the Muses on the bottom, and now the other way around.
Wait- is the top-middle one Feather? It looks like en to me. I can’t believe it’s December!! W00T!!
Yes, that is indeed Feather.
And, i think the one on the left is Urania. Am I the first to notice?
Nah, I noticed last night, just didn’t ever get around to mentioning it. I believe it’s Chad on the right, while we’re naming Muses.

I practiced with the B team today in basketball. It’s not awful, but I was the only girl who usually plays with both the A and B team (We call ourselves “The Floaters”) who practiced on their side most of the time. I’m a little worried that I might get moved down from the floaters to the B, which I guess wouldn’t be the end of the world but I’ve been doing so well so far only to fall these last couple o’ days I guess…I suppose I’ll just have to put more effort in next practice, because I know I can be A team material if I work harder. But so much is going on right now that everything seems to be spinning so fast and now all of a sudden it’s December. Whoa.

HAWK! How’ve you been? I thought about texting you when we drove past your house last night, but as it was 12:30 I figured you’d be asleep. Though apparently that assumption was incorrect, alas.
I’m tired. I seem to be tired a lot lately. *wanders off to do laundry*
I’m going to write upside-down only once. It hurts my neck to read it. Here goes;

I hurt my arm today. I don’t quite know what’s wrong with it, but it isn’t really letting me type. I’ll be here, but typing takes long enough that I won’t be posting. Please don’t think I deserted you. Or anything else. I’ll be back when I can.
Woah. It’s DECEMBER already?
I loves the picture, Lady B! It’s kinda like those Magic Eye calenders/pictures….*eyes go fuzzy at thought*
……
OPENING. NIGHT. 9. DAYS.
Opening night for what, peary moppins?
Opening night for Oklahoma!
Good luck, peary! (I don’t think you’ve ever told us which part you’re playing.)
Please stop typing upside down. It gives me headaches. Thank you.
My brother just did this-
Him: “I’m going to rob Bill Gates. I’m going to go up to him on the street and go ‘Mr. Gates?’, and he’ll go *squeeky voice* ‘Yes?’, and I’ll go ‘Ha!’ and snap a rubber band in his face, and then throw a garbage bag over his head and…”
I worry about him sometimes, I do.
I can’t believe it’s December. Where’d last month go? Where’d this year go? I’m turning sixteen in 2010. It’s a new decade (although I think technically decades start with the year ending in 1). Time marches on…
16? That’s not that bad. I’m turning 20. I’ll officially no longer be a teenager. *shudder*
Wow. Well, sixteen feels pretty old to me. It’s happened a lot recently that I’ve been having a conversation with my friend D (the same one I wrote that weird story with) and suddenly realized that I’m in high school. I’ve known my friend since fifth grade, and now here I am in tenth. Where’d all that time go?
I’ve been thinking this kind of thing since fifth grade though. I remember walking down the hall with my then-best-friend, still-good-friend A, and talking about how fast elementary school had gone. I believe I said something like “You enter kindergarten and then–blink!–you’re graduating elementary school. Blink! You’re in seventh grade. Blink! You’re starting high school… It’s all rushing past.” And now here I am well into high school, still thinking the same thing. Except now fifth grade doesn’t seem as old as it did then, and in fact seems really young. I imagine some day I’ll think of fifteen in a wow-I-was-so-little-then sense.
That, I think, is what’s so hard to wrap my brain around.
And the seasons, they go round and round. And the painted ponies go up and down. We’re captive on a carousel of time… Name that song anyone?
I usually don’t feel that way, actually. I’m younger than most of the people in my grade, even the people who skipped 9th grade, so it always seems to be “I’m x years old. Finally.”
Circle Game. I was actually thinking of that song as I wrote the post.
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now,
Cart wheels turn to car wheels through the town.
And they tell him, take your time, it won’t be long now,
Till you drag your feet to slow the circle down.
Luna should like this one.
And the years spin by and now the child is twenty
Although his dreams have lost a lot of grandeur coming true
There’ll be new dreams, maybe better dreams, and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
Well look at that–the ages match perfectly!
No 15 verse, though.
Yes, but there’s no 19 verse either, and that’s the age Luna is right now. So if you take it as the ages that we’re turning, then it works.
I’m turning 15 is what I meant to say.
Oh, I see. When’s your birthday?
April
Hm… I’m not sure when Luna’s is, but there’ll be at least a month there when we’re both fifteen.
Luna’s birthday is at the end of March. She about 4 months before she turns 20.
And why am i talking in third person??????
Same. It feels extremely weird to see most of your friends turn 14, be as much as a year younger than them, and look like a Year 10 at the same time.
And btw, I didn’t skip a grade. I just have an April birthday.
I skipped a grade and have an April birthday…
Whatever you do–don’t blink. Blink, and you’re dead. DON’T BLINK!!!!!!!!!!
Erm, sorry. Couldn’t resist. I love that episode of Dr. Who……
Hey, I was going to post that!
Sorry…..But you know what they say: Great minds think alike, and all that.
Yeah, I can no longer hear the word “blinK” without thinking of that episode.
Same for me! Every single time I hear the word blink, or read it somewhere, an image of Tennant on the telly screen from that ep pops into my head.
In Egyptian Civ class we were looking at a picture like the first result if you type “funerary square box egyptian canopic” (but without the quotes) into google image search and I kept thinking of Blink. (see the people on the corners? There is another box that has them along the sides.)
Yeah, I can see that too.
I spent most of last night trying to think of a way to stop the Weeping Angels… best I could think of was a portable video camera, streaming live to several hundred screens, each one watched by a single person who is under orders to warn everyone else when he or she is going to blink. Once you’ve immobilized the creature by pointing that at it, you can come up with a way to destroy it permanently at leisure. You’d just have to be very, very careful to keep the camera on…
Here’s a conundrum. If a Weeping Angel is being filmed by a security camera that nobody is watching, but somebody plays back the video later, does it turn to stone?
Wait, if they can shut off lightbulbs, they can probably do the same to cameras…
What if they were unaware of the camera?
They are fast, faster than you can believe. Don’t turn your back, don’t look away, and DON’T! BLINK!
Good luck…
me tooo…
You’re right, because there was no year 0.
Same here. In my little world, it’s still November. For the first two weeks of November, I still thought it was October.
1. The last month went to my novel.
2. This year went to M. Or at least, most of it did.
3. I’m turning seventeen. Very early in 2010, too. I am actually (Not kidding, here.) very frightened. I’m not supposed to be old.
4. I think I want to cry, a little.
-A
17 is NOT old. If 17 is old, that means I’m beyond old, gradster. Old is, well, not 17, that’s for sure. 17 is several decades short of old.
Is too. It’s a big number, and it’s really really sharp, and right now it’s over one hundred percent of how long I have lived.
-A
3. I know just what you mean.
So…..Question. Does getting your wisdom teeth removed hurt very much? I mean, I can’t imagine it doesn’t…..
Because over the course of the last couple weeks or so, I’ve noticed that one of my wisdom teeth has started to come in. One corner of it is currently poking through my gum just enough that I can feel it with the tip of my tongue. So, I’ve got this nasty feeling that this means I will be having to get my wisdom teeth out sooner, rather than later. And I’m unlucky enough to have all four of the blasted things.
I think my mom had sorta been thinking I’d get them out this coming summer (I think), but….since the one is starting to come in now, I’ve got to imagine the dentist, at least, will one me to get them out over Christmas Break. Which would definitely not be my idea of a fun time.
Ok, well I can’t say I’ve specifically gotten wisdom teeth pulled so I can’t talk from quite the same experience but I did have a surgery last year where they pulled a tooth up. Not all the way out, just up because it was sitting on the gum and not growing the way it was supposed to. Now if getting your wisdom teeth pulled is anything like that (And I can’t say I know if it is.) then it’s not that bad. I mean of course the Novocain (I’m not sure how that’s spelled, so I’ll apologize in advance.) ensures that you don’t feel anything during the actual surgery and yeah it did work 100% for me because I literally did not feel a thing. The worst part is when the Novocain starts to wear off though because it does get sore and achy for awhile and eating is harder as expected so I mostly ate “rabbit food.” (Cheese, soft crackers, and lots o milkshake! Yay! Well fine rabbits don’t drink milkshake, but that’s what I called it!)
That’s pretty much it, so yeah overall not as bad as you might think. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. For me the anticipation was worse than the real thing because I was really worried and it was much easier than I expected. Oh yeah, and for about a month afterward every once in awhile I had to use some gauze on the tooth because it would start to bleed like if I brushed too hard on it with my toothbrush but that was probably just a lack of carefulness and me not paying to directions, as usual. What else is to be expected? Actually FOLLOWING the instructions? No way!
Hope that helped although that’s kinda-ish more of a rant then anything else (sorry!)…and I honestly don’t know how pulling out wisdom teeth would differ from my surgery. But anyway, there I go off again…
“Well fine rabbits don’t drink milkshake, but that’s what I called it!”
I read that sentence just as I was starting to take a sip of my soda and if I’d read it even a millisecond later, I would be typing on a very, very sticky laptop right now.
Ha ha, the “Well fine rabbits don’t drink milkshake, but that’s what I called it” sounds so funny out of context…even in context it sounds funny, actually. My apologies for your (almost) stick laptop. Ha ha.
I’ve got the same thing happening, behind my far lower right molar. It’s not moving much, just worrisome. I think my father had his removed, but my mother did not? Hard to get clear information.
Also, don’t ask Grant about dental surgery, if he’s around.
I take it Grant had a bad experience? Considering I spent the summer listening to one of my adult coworkers whine for over a month after having one of his teeth pulled…….
No, I think he’s just really averse to the whole process… Or maybe it was an experience. I just seem to remember something like that.
-A
I haven’t gotten my wisdom teeth removed yet (and I’ll have to–I have at least three, lucky me), but I did get two baby teeth pulled last year. The process is different, I’m sure, and probably a lot more painful for wisdom teeth, but it wasn’t that bad for me. They numbed my jaw so that I couldn’t feel it.
That’s what my sister was just telling me (she had a couple baby teeth pulled when she was about your age). She said hers hurt for maybe a day, max. Dad’s telling me that he was given pills to take for the pain, that he took one when he walked out, and then never took any of the rest and went out to Mexican that night and never had any pain……I guess he either has high pain tolerance, was extremely lucky, or several decades has messed with his memory of the experience.
Mom’s only story I remember about getting hers pulled, was that both my dad and the dental surgeon swore to her that she would be fully anesthetized for the procedure (she was refusing to do it otherwise), and then…..She was not fully anesthetized, but was awake and they just gave her some local. She tells me that there is no way that they would put me fully under (despite the fact that that’s what I would want), although I’m sure I remember hearing from other people (on here, I think) that they were all the way under, so…. *shrug* I can always hope.
Baby teeth pulled…really don’t hurt. At all. I remember I went to the dentist’s once and sat there dreading being there, and then at the end they handed me my tooth, and I was really confused because I didn’t remember them pulling it. And I’d been conscious the whole time!
I didn’t really feel it either. It was sore after the anesthetic wore off. I remember my jaw being so numb that when they were done removing the teeth, I closed my jaw on my bottom lip and didn’t realize until they told me.
*shudders* I hope I never have to have my wisdom teeth pulled. I’d probably have to be given so many sedatives that I’d be totally out for that to happen.
I have to have my wisdom teeth removed soon, as well.
28~ I wish I could assure you that it’s entirely painless and a fun experience but……it wasn’t for me.
It hurt a great deal, and I had stitches in my mouth (not a pleasant experience either) for a week or so. I could talk and smile after two days or so though, though I still had to be careful and eat soft things and not open my mouth too wide. But it wasn’t absolutely horrid, I survived, and so did another friend who had his out this summer.
You’ll live. And we’ll be here to gently hand over sympathy pies.
Mushy, liquidy sympathy pies. ( ugh. )

God, I hate process journals.
I have changed my name.
How the cake did you do that?
fliptext dot org, love. Or, if the GAPA don’t like that, just google upside-down text, or something like that. It’s easy enough to find.

Hooray for symmetry!
I love the picture, Lady B!
…Argh, upside-down writing gives me headaches…
…Must…finish…homework…
Well, I guess the best I can hope for as far as getting my wisdom teeth pulled then is that I can still put it off until summer, despite the fact that the one is coming in…..I’d really rather not have my short month home this Christmas consist of having stitches and a restricted diet. Breaks when I get to go home and eat my mom’s cooking are when I gorge myself on delicious food and regain any weight I may have lost on nasty college cafeteria food.
Which, actually, I did last year. My “freshman 10” was losing ten pounds, instead of gaining it. Of course, I regained it all over the summer…..
Finals. Tomorrow. Cram time!! I feel like Ron (Weasley) and the whole examination thing has kind of never crossed my train of thought until now.
28- They should give you Novocain…. I think any dental surgery has a bit of pain associated with it, well any surgery, really, but people use their mouths so much. Speaking as a non-person. I think I really am going insane.
Good morning. No, it’s night! Good night then. Er, yeah, let’s go with night.
I’ll be back to semi-normal after I sleep.
Yay for finals!!! and cramming!!! and caffine!!!!!!! and getting LESS THAN HALF THE QUESTIONS RIGHT ON THE AP US HISTORY TEST MONDAY. I am such a forgetfully worthless idiot. I prob…shooot I still have to write the paragraph on the Jacksonian era…ably won’t do so hot on my final in there either, seeing as I have never gotten a very good grade on any of the tests in there. At least that one is thursday. If it were tommarow, I would prollly already killed and buried myself. But the cramming must commence (*wants cookies*), and the random self-interjections must stop, so off to the backpack I go to fetch my textbook.*deep breaths*
I have all four of my wisdom teeth. They came in normally and have never given me any trouble. Big jaws, I suppose.
You’re lucky. The dentist has been telling me the last few visits that I don’t have enough room and need to get them out soon, before they start causing me problems in my 30s/40s, as he assures me that I would not heal near as quickly if I waited until then to have them removed. Which I’m sure is true, but doesn’t make me anymore keen to get them out.
You’re lucky. My dad’s wisdom teeth came in sideways. They were poking out of of the side of his jaw.
One surefire way to find out if you are sleep deprived is when you find yourself sitting in front of your computer at 1:30 AM eating dry rice krispies toppef with mustard. Willingly. Just like me. I went to get myself a snack and I got out the rice krispies and then when I was looking in the fridge, the idea of putting mustard on your cereal sounded appealing, so I tried it. And it wasn’t that bad. *needs sleep very badly*
I’d probably do that with ketchup if I were to do that.
It sounds like something I would do… I have strange cravings sometimes too… For example, noodles fried with butter and soy sauce and some mustard. Strange.
Mustard and green apples is actually okay.
37- Mustard *shudders* If I ever should feel the need to throw up, wave some of that stuff under my nose.
Wisdom teeth- My dad got his last one removed recently, after a pretty bad infection and it wasn’t pretty. I’m not looking forward to mine- I’ll have to have them pulled (too small mouth).
36.1- trust me, it’s the best way. My dad didn’t want to get his removed at first and ended up slowly loosing them over about 20 years whenever some new infection came. Not fun.
22- Take it easy. I “hurt” my arm once that I could barely write when I fell of a jungle gym and found out a few days later that I’d broken my collarbone. One of the worst summers in my life.
So the other day, I was in the grocery store with my mother, and I got the strange idea to make tofu chili. I had mix at home, so all I had to buy was the tofu. Today, I made it.
Bad idea.
I fried/sauteed the tofu before throwing it in the chili, and it tastes like… I don’t know. It’s sweet. Maybe it needs to absorb the flavor of the chili.
*GASP* I’m going to be late for my flute lesson! Bye!
Eew.
Yay, a fellow flute player! This is the third year I’ve been playing it, but I’m not as good as I should be, due to the fact that I am taught by a trumpet player who does not know as much about flute playing as I wish she did.
Oddly enough, I was sitting at the computer on MB when I realized that if I didn’t hurry up, I’d be late for band!
You know that trumpets are awesomer than flutes.
But pianos beast both trumpets and flutes!
And jazz piano is the epitome of all musical experiences. (I play both trumpet and piano, and most of my piano playing is jazz.)
Flutists unite! Dang it, I have a band final tomorrow. Evidently we didn’t have to memorize various scales for it. Yeah, I learned that today. At lunch. After twenty-four hours of freaking out about how I can’t do the super high notes in my scale smoothly.
Why is it that the band teacher and students are the last to know of a change in plans if it’s a school band? I need to figure out how to play a super high G, and it’s so high it’s not even on my fingering chart.
I play the oboe. HA! I can drown you with my sound blasts!
I play the pipe organ. HA! I can drown out a rock concert with my sound blasts!
(Sound blasts that I can hold for however long I want without having to stop and breathe.)
Us flautists have a hard time holding our sound blasts for very long due to the fact that half the air we blow out doesn’t even make it to where it belongs.
Depens on the rock concert.
Piggy’s point remains valid.
I play oboe too! Not well, though, seeing as I only started four months ago. Our band music is pretty challenging, though–this concert mostly grade five pieces, one grade six–so I’m catching up at a decent pace.
Grade five meaning fifth grade, or grade five meaning a NYSSMA level? Although I suppose if you don’t live in NY you won’t know what that is…
I don’t know what that is. I’m also not sure what the system we use is called, but basically, there are six grades of music. Assuming students start their instruments in sixth grade, grades one and two are about sixth-grade level, grade two is about seventh grade level, and grades two and three are eighth grade level. Grade six pieces are very challenging.
Nice. My band is playing mostly grade 3, I think, with the occasional grade 4. We’re mostly sophomores, with the occasional junior or senior.
NYSSMA is this thing where all musicians that want to participate practice a piece and some scales and then go to a set school where there are people who know the instrument well and they judge you on your piece. I’m sorry if that’s confusing. You aren’t competing, it’s just for your own personal knowledge and so you know how you can make yourself better. Also, I’m pretty sure it looks good on a college application. Are there things like that in other states?
I think the closest we have is All-District/All-State.
Over here, we have EOSSMA (Eastern Oregon Small Schools Music Association) each year. The location changes from year to year, and there are separate ones for junior high and high school. There’s about a hundred kids from various school bands, and each band plays through a song or two that only that band is doing once, and then everyone plays some songs that all the bands do for most of the day. Then, at the end, is the concert. Each band performs their one or two pieces, and then everyone performs the pieces that all the schools learned.
P.S. The instructor told me that the flutes could play an octave lower on the extremely high notes.
I started in 4th grade. It’s a pretty hard instrument, so don’t feel bad if you’re frustrated.
I play the clarinet. Ha!
I like clarinets. Their soft, but powerful at the same time.
Yes. They don’t just have a “signature” sound because their range is varied. They’re also of course closely related with the oboe with I see you play!
Ducky (upside down)- I’ve been playing for fiv- woah. Seven years. That’s crazy. High G is 1,2,3 (no thumb) on your left hand, pinkie on your left hand. Just blow hard. If you ever need help, you can ask me!
Speller- Flutes are better. Hands down.
How loud can YOU play? I’m actually about to have my first trumpet lesson this year. With a new teacher…
Okay, admittedly, you can’t really play that loud on a flute at all. But you can on a piccolo. Have you ever heard a high F on a piccolo? Don’t tell me that’s not loud.
But it’s quality, not quantity (of decibels) that counts. So, it all comes down to the musician. So, you probably win.
The piccolo player in my band, who I think is hilarious, had to play a high A for one of our warm-up scales. Ouch. That is loud.
I’ve been playing flute for 8 years now, since 5th grade.
Last year I sat next to our piccolo player (I’m first chair, she was second (she graduated)), and she had to play high C (high HIGH C as in highest flute note possible unless you have the extra Bflat foot joint) several times in one song.
She was faced directly into my ear. It was painful.
Ouch!!!!
That sounds bad.
Unfortuneatly, there are no piccolos in my band, and only two other flutes, three on Wednesdays, and one of them is pretty much useless. He dosen’t really play the flute, he pretends to play the flute. He actually sits with the saxes because the front row is the “girls’ section” The other two, K_____ and K—-, are the opposite of him. K—–, the one that can only come on Wednesdays, is AMAZING.
There’s an absolutely gorgeous section of one of our band pieces where the only instruments playing are the piccolo and two oboes (one of which is me). Of course it is extremely in-tune and beautiful.
Viola! The brilliant, yet largely overshadowed by the squeaky violins (seriously, have you ever heard a violinist playing 4 on the E string??), instrument. Crafted to a beautiful shape, the viola shares strings with the almost-as-brilliant cello. It is not overly deep, the viola, unlike basses, yet not too high like the violins. The cellos are the same way, and-
Yes, I play the viola.
I used to play the viola. I agree, it is a beautiful instrument. By the way, welcome back! I haven’t seen you in awhile
This is so cool… I’m typing on a macbook in Best Buy. I can dream, can’t I?
Yes, you can dream. Dream of a better computer, that is.
I’ll just say that Macs have superior keyboard. And everything else. That’s it. I have trouble typing on a PC now that I’m used to Mac.
I just can’t type on a “real” keyboard anymore, having gotten used to a flat, laptop (mac) keyboard.
I like using laptop keyboards so much better than normal computer keyboards. They’re less clunky, less noisy.
I think both are okay.
(Full disclosure: I’m a computer pragmatist/uncultured savage and my OS/brand of choice is anything with a screen, a keyboard and an Internet connection.)
I can’t stand flat keyboards, but otherwise I don’t care. *has a PC* Not that I’ve ever used a Mac…
Same here.
I actually like the sound and feel of a regular keyboard. I’ve actually never used a Mac, and have no problem with Windows, other than the fact that the computer seems to hate me.
The school computers hate me, and I’ve never even yelled at them.
heh. yeah. Me too. I check for features and things (such as what kind of ports it has and how much space it has on the hard drive) but I don’t care what OS it has.
Tee hee. I have a Macbook Pro. I’m typing on it now! I hate to gloat, but it’s really cool…
I’ve got one too.
I have a laptop connected to a keyboard and a different monitor. I really like it because the monitor is at a different angle than the keyboard, so the keyboard doesn’t get in my line of vision.
Today was a pretty good day. I finished my homework pretty early, and then I went to get my swine flu vaccine, so now I’m just relaxing.
My brother killed the man in Hangman by writing “cowflu” as one word. Seriously. “Cowflu”.
That’s not fair… Cowflu isn’t anything. It wouldn’t be one word if it was something. That’s cruel, KaiYves’ brother.
Believe me, we were mad when he told us. You have to have valid words when you play Hangman.
Well, now he’s made it the name of his virus in Pandemic, but that doesn’t count.
Update on arm:
Still don’t know if it’s broken. Probably is. Scafoid, I think, if it is. In a cast anyway, just in case. Can type without hurting, but it’s very awkward.
Future posts will be written about like this, for now. That’s about it.
Oh, and 40 and replies- Macs are amazing. *has iBook G4* *cannot function on Windows*
Yowch. Broken bones are horrible. Hey, on the bright side? It’s only one of your arms. I did both at once when I was nine–jumped out of a swing and fractured the growth plates on both wrists. Not pleasant.
One of my friends broke her arm, then fell out of a chair lift and broke the other one. Speaking of breaking stuff, my dad had a friend who was in hockey and en crashed into the wall. The other players kept saying, “Just walk it off! Come on, just walk it off!” and he was saying “No, no, I can’t! I can’t!” because…he had broken his leg.
Oh my. That sounds painful. 0_o
Macs are amazing! I lurve them! Windows are just unorganized!
I like Macs, too. I want one for Christmas! (though it’s unlikely to happen…)
I always ending up yelling at the school computers in graphic art. They’re so dysfunctional!
“I’ve got another one (dysfunctional) for our list of words that get a reaction!” -Calvin
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Happy December everyone!
Happy December!
*pokes* How’s it looking for that Kokon?
Isabella is feeling very tired and sick. She’s sitting on the couch and listening to her awesome playlist.
WOW, I’m talking in third person. I must be sick…
If anyone knows the song “Grace Kelly” by Mika, I’m listening to it now. How does his voice go up that high on “hurtful” “purple”?! It’s crazy.
I went to science olympiads today, but it was very confusing. Nobody was explaining anything. Me and my friend Jake were going to work on an event together, but we’re on different teams (I don’t know what that even means…), so we can’t work together. I might work with another friend Belinda, but she wasn’t there today. So, if we do work together, I’d like to be in the ornithology and ecology events.
Kiwimuncher- Happy December to you too!
Each school has a Varsity team and up to three JV teams. In NC, each team can have up to eighteen people. As you know, people work in groups of two or three for each event. You’re working for a medal in that event, but then the scores of each team in all the events are totaled and the teams get trophies for how well they cumulatively do.
I love the song “Grace Kelly!” It took me forever to figure out what the title of the song was, because my friend gave it to me on a playlist and neglected to give me the titles of the tracks for quite some time. His voice shocked me the first time I heard it, how it could go up that high.
That’s a good song. I like “We are Golden” by him too; he goes really insanely high in that one too.
An easy way to find names of songs is to type about a stanza or so of lyrics into the google search box.
Those songs are incredible…I have trouble singing Grace Kelly, and I sing soprano in music class.

Will the smiley work??
Happy December! I’m going to go eat my daily advent calendar chocolate. *eats chocolate with lantern on it* Mmm, that was good. Anyway, I’m thinking of almost certain I’m changing my name. Here’s what I’m considering;
Dark Umbreon (Umbreon is a Pokemon which I love)
Shadow Absol (Absol is also a favorite Pokemon of mine)
Eevee Freak (Again, eevee, favorite pokemon)
Lucario Freak (…Do I even need to say it?)
Please let me know what you think! Sorry if this is PoPo.
I like Lucario Freak and Shadow Absol the best. Probably Shadow Absol best of all.
Keep your name is my suggestion. It fits you well. I’ve thought of changing my name in the past, (SuedoRandom, or SudoIRandom (so that my initials would be SIR)) but I didn’t, partly because it gets confusing, partly because I like my post count high on that post counter thingit.
I don’t have that many posts, so that doesn’t really matter.
“LittleBasementKitten” has much more personality than the others you mentioned. Plus it’s a touch cheeky.
Thanks.
I thought of changing mine to skybluebunny, but then I decided against it, since name changes tend to a) confuse people and b) bookgirl_me is …a sort of private joke.
Ooh, I have an advent calendar, but the chocolates in it are TINY.
Same. But that’s ok, then I don’t feel so guilty when I eat one of those huge 100 gran bars later on because I “didn’t get enough before.”
I agree, I’ve actually gotten to the point where I’ve changed my name but I’ve always gone back to soccer starr…I dunno, like SR said I want my post count to always be pretty high instead of scattered around in the form of a bunch of different names, and it’s also confusing to the other MBers. Plus, I like LittleBasementKitten!
I like your name! Don’t change it.
RE: Mac vs. PC. I’d always used a PC, and we just got a MacBook pro a few months ago. I love it, it’s fast, it works and it makes sense. Love, love, love.
I thought at first I wouldn’t like the keyboard (I was used to my old laptop’s keyboard) but now I feel strange typing n the old one. Almost like how regular keyboards used to feel to me after using my laptop. And regular keyboards are complete torture, they’re so LOUD and you have to hit the keys so hard! Eew. I hate them.
I want my own computer….. *sigh* I’d like the MacBook pro 13″, but I guess I could get just a plain MacBook. I like the aluminum though. *drools* And the multi touch trackpad and just about everything else about it.
I’m concerned about my kitty angel. He’s got a lump under his right eye, and I’m really hoping it’s just an infection or something instead of some sort of growth or tumor or something. I noticed it last night in passing, but today it looks rather large, it’s making his eye shut a bit. My poor little baby, he’s such a trooper and a good guy. We’re taking him into the vet’s tonight (if we can find him–he has a way of vanishing when we need to take him somewhere). *frets*
Good luck! I hope Circles is okay.
48.1~ Thanks.
Your cat’s name is Circles?
Attention MuseBlog: I might be grounded from MB soon, so if I’m not around much for a while, that’s what happened. I’ll still try to find time before school to visit, though.
OK, we’ll miss you!
Come back soon, mi amigo cerdo!
What soccer starr and Aggie said.
Again, that’s a “might”. Time and organ music seems to have (partially) soothed the savage beast. By which I mean my female parent.
1. Bring an offering (chocolate).
2. Start taking bagpipes instead (“I can’t go on MB? I guess I’ll practice then…”)
Bagpipes are my ultimate plan of revenge when approached with being supposed to play an instrument… I could even offer to practice with the orchestra…
So I wrote half of the 2010 story arc for one of my stories before finding out that the instigating event won’t occur until 2012, so now I have to come up with another arc or two out of nowhere…
I just auditioned for a play!
Very nice! Which play did you audition for?
I’m in! It’s an adaptation of the play within the play of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. The script isn’t finished yet, so I don’t really know the details. I’m playing Lysander and Demitrius.
Aren’t they onstage at the same time?
That might present a problem.
Congrats, Jakob!
49.1~ Yup. Named thus by my 8 year old self because he has circles on his sides (he’s a yellow tabby).
Turns out he’s okay, it wasn’t anything too serious, just an infected scratch from who-knows-what (he lives outdoors) that swelled up. They drained it, gave him a shot and said he’s got a few degrees of a fever, but that was because of the infection. He looks much better already though.
AHHHH!! I need to pack. We’re going to Boston tomorrow…..gack. It seems like we just got home from Wisconsin! 0.o
*looks in horror at duffel bag and heaps of clothing*
I’m glad to hear that!
Yup! We wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to kitties. Kitties are awesome.
Yes. Kitties are awesome.
I have now packed a week’s worth of clothing into a small-ish duffel bag. This is good. Hopefully I can do it again in a few weeks and not have to fight with Mom about having checked baggage when going to NC. Since she’s got some sort of phobia about checking in bags, ESPECIALY if I have a transfer, and that’s horrid enough, as she’s sure I’ll get kidnapped or mugged or SOMETHING. *sigh*
Hopefully not. But anyway.
So….Boston tomorrow. I guess that means I should go put some sheets on my bed and go to sleep. Yeah, good idea. *looks at time, nearly faints*
Mkay yeah, bye all. If you’re in Boston and see a girl with short hair and musery loves co. buttons on her [small, brown and non-girly] purse, STOP ME AND SAY HI!!! I mean it.
Goodnight all.
I need to write a paper for gym class. For gym class! (It’s all about how healthy I am.) I think this should count as cruel and unusual punishment… *grumbles and reluctantly writes the paper.
Paper….for gym? But…..that requires sitting still and not exercising, which is counterproductive to the whole purpose of gym class. *grumbles about the stupidity of your gym teacher*
Yes, but “This is a science-based course,” “We teach you tactics not skills,” “What good is learning with reflecting?”, blah, blah, blah, I’m so stuffy, give me a scone.
Aw, scones make me thing of Giles.
Umm… did you not notice my Buffy quote? It’s Buffy making fun of Giles in Inca Mummy Girl. (Yes, I’m hopeless.)
Apparently I missed it……
You mean you don’t have all of Buffy memorized? What’s wrong with you?
A lot of things. So many I don’t even know where to start.
That is sort of dumb. You should have to, at least, do 25 jumping jacks or something.
In our gym class we had to write a paper about “taking the easy path or the hard path”. In the hard path, you climb up a huge mountain using only your own skill and strength while extremely fatigued. In the easy path, you sit on the couch watching “Glee” and eating bonbons. (After discovering that bonbons are balls of ice cream covered with chocolate, why anyone would choose to take the hard path further bewilders me.)
I love the way my gym teacher says “bonbons”. Say it aloud and you’ll know what I mean. He also wears socks with sandals every day and coaches football.
Uhm, the bonbons are a plus, but sitting on the couch and watching Glee all day? Is there really a choice?
Hmm… I’d say the hard path, since I happen to be one of those people who, given enough sleep, build up so much energy that they go berserk if they don’t get a good workout at least once a week. I suppose it’s all a time question *likes huge mountains*
And I thought tests for gym were bad…
It is officially winter in my book.
It snowed this morning, not enough to cover the grass but it snowed and is now 18 degrees. So I went oustide and stood in the front porch and smelled the snow and looked around for about three minutes. This allowed the winterness to set in. Aaah. I like winter.
Hmm. It’s hard to tell exactly when winter starts over here, ‘cuz we just don’t GET snow.
Ah, I love Fridays. Nice, happy, relaxed Fridays.
I walked to the library after school and read comics for two hours, until my mom was ready to pick me up. I re-read Justice League: The New Frontier. Superheroes + spaceships + monsters + human rights + insights into 1960s politics and culture = pretty much like candy to me.
We’re getting snow today, as well as a Christmas tree. It’s a family tradition, so we go out to a farm about an hour away and chop one down ourselves, then have a stay-in night, decorate and watch movies by the fire. It’s another reason why I love this time of year…our entire family actually sticks together most of the month!
Play practice for Annie starts on Monday. I can’t wait to start furiously scrubbing the stage and jumping on beds. Being an orphan’s going to be exciting.
Awww, lucky! We’re getting a mix of snow and rain here. I wish it would just snow!!!
Oooh, Annie! *love* Sounds awesome.
Hey, we’re doing Annie too! Auditions are on the 17th and 18th, and I’m trying out for Duffy. My friend’s trying out for Pepper because if she gets the role, she gets to say “Shut up!”
Darn. It was supposed to snow today, but it’s just raining and cold. If it’s going to be cold, I want it to be really cold and I want two feet of snow.
If it’s not going to be really cold and snowy, then I want it to be warm and summery. That’d be wonderful… 8)
You want two feet of snow? I have to feed my ducks first thing in the morning, and to get to the duckyard I’d have to shovel a path of there was two feet of snow.
Hmm… true. I have ducks too, three of them. And six chickens. So my family and I pitch in to shovel paths around the yard for them, and my dog.
What breed are your ducks? Mine are Anconas.
We’re getting some snow, but it’s not sticking on the ground!
At least it’s snow…
We might get some snow tomorrow!
Okay, so I go up north and what happens? IT SNOWS AT HOME.
*sigh*
It snowed.
*joy*
*sobbing*
*builds blobmonkey*
——
Do you guys know the story of Twelfh Night? We’re putting it on in the spring, but I have NO idea what it’s about.
Yay!! It’s snowing!!!! *glee glee glee infinite glee*
It might snow here. If the temperature drops ten degrees. IF.
We have snow on the ground but not much… you can still see the grass and stuff.
Goodnight, my dear blogosphere. I must go practice the trombone.
( mix of snow and rain here. Fantasy: the wet ground freezes, the snow turns to ice, we get school off Monday. )
Today. Was. AWESOME.
I woke up, ate breakfast, had faculty meetings, had two classes off, did some homework, watched Torchwood, went to third class, teacher had a migraine (not that that’s good, but) so we had that class off also, ate lunch, read some of Flowers for Algernon, played some flash games, watched more Torchwood (fairies!), SNOW, went back to dorm, went to hockey game, took pictures, went to basketball game, took pictures, ate dinner, played foosball, watched a friend try a video game, started a snowball fight with my proctor which expanded into 15 people, watched the Matrix for the first time, and came back here.
Weeee! Fun.
Torchwood?
I think you’re about to be attacked by Luna. I’ll go hide somewhere until the scary storm of obsession is over.
Ohmygosh I loved that episode. The fairies one is where they were kidnapping little kids right?
Yes. And I watched Countrycide last night at 1:00 AM and was severly disturbed.
I can’t read the word “countryside” anymore without immediately thinking of that eppy.
On the bright side, Ianto is so adorable in that ep. Even if he did lie about who the last person he kissed was. Or, well, at least the last person he was kissed by. Because after Capt Jack kissed him in episode 4 (you know the one….the first one he played a major part in….the title gives away too much info), he never kissed Lisa during the eppy, and yet in Countrycide, he says Lisa was the last person he kissed.
Of course, I suppose it could be argued that he does not feel Jack kissing him counts as him (Ianto kissing someone), but, y’know, for whatever reason we (as in everyone who’s watched it and posted on TW boards) seems to be hung up on that detail….. *shrug* Dunno.
Ooooh. The fairy episode. The second time I watched that ep (a week or so ago), the pedophile throwing up the flower petals was making me severely nauseous. Human saliva makes me nauseous. Not sure why, but it does, so the guy choking up saliva coated rose petals was *shudder* very nauseating.
*is happy she has gotten a convert to TW*
MR. JOE PLAYS FOR TEXAS.
Poop. POOP!!! It’s going to warm up and all the snow is going to melt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! *goes off to cry on her own*
69-Whose Mr. Joe…?
is Mr. Joe. See this thread.
Thank you!
I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to resort to this, but I guess I do. If you come to the Magic RPG (with the intention of creating a new character or posting something with an existing character), you will receive a free cookie.
Well, I now like RPG’s, so I’ll come *gobbles free cookie*
Wow! I did all my homework before noon so now I can go running and write and go bowling later!
Hmm… I’ve been flipping through looking at (why is it that old threads remind me of photo albums) and have realized how much the ‘crowd has changed. Somehow, I think there are less people posting now than I remember.
Wow, I’m turning into a sentimental paleo. Never thought that would happen. Scary. It must be the bunny influence… . I think I’ll go change my gravatar to something more interesting and get on with life.
According to my French textbook, there were 42 lines per page in the first printing press.
Sorry to ruin everyone’s happy bubbles, but my life kinda sucks right now. Yesterday my friend S had a birthday party and everything was all fine and dandy until when we were having cake I started vibrating and being very hate-all. Then we got into a very heated Harry Potter/ twilight battle with Goldendoodle, E, and I on one side and C and K on the other an S not really participating. C was trying to convince me that twilight is bigger than Harry Potter, which is an impossible task, seeing as twilight appeals to girls age 10-20 and the occasional old lady, while Harry Potter appeals to pretty much the entire literate population of the world. She told me to shut up and stop obsessing about stupid books. *hates life and all the people in it*
I understand how you feel. Don’t you hate it when people are like that?
That’s exactly the argument I tried to pose to my Twilight-obsessed friends, but oh no. It’s Sparkly Vegetarian Vampire this and Sparkly Vegetarian Vampire that. Also, those books are self-published. All the author had to do was pay $300 for distribution and printing, so no one every edited her writing. How can you not have someone else look over something you’ve written, especially when you’re selling it?!?!!? *fumes* Someone once told me that Harry Potter was stupid, and they wished they had never been born, at least, that’s how I hope they felt. Then again, if you’re brainless enough to appreciate Twilight, I don’t think emotions register very well, considering the lack of intelligent brain function.
I almost got roped into going to the most recent movie (literal translation: absolute drivel) but en’s birthday party had too many people and it would have been to expensive to pay for movie tickets. The moment I found out about this “unfortunate” event is probably the time I’ve felt most relieved in my entire life, and probably ever will. I’d brought I blindfold with me in case of emergency, but luckily I didn’t have to use it. *anti Twilight rant over*
*Warning: another rant ahead*
So today at the massive swim meet of the season, I won my heat twice today. Upon winning, I received a candy cane (very festive) and a coupon for a bag tag. For those of you who are members of the non-swimming community, I think I have to completely rephrase those first two sentences:
When you do a race a lot of people enter, they break it up into heats, which are groups in the race. Let’s say 10 people enter and the pool has 5 lanes. They can’t all swim at once, so 5 people will swim, their times will be recorded, and the remaining people do the same. The results get organized, etc. Each group is a heat. Bag tags are exactly what they sound like. They’re laminated pieces of paper with stuff like I Love Breaststroke and Eat My Bubbles on them that you can hang from your bag. OKAY, SO I won two coupons for bag tags today, and I went to go get some. These bag tags are hideous creations with PC (sorry, I’m loyal to Mac) clip art, goofy fonts and atrocious colors. There’s also some copyright infringement going on, there’s Finding Nemo, SpongeBob, etc. references and pictures. These things are $5 a pop, and the people selling them are making a fortune off of ugly pieces of paper! I managed to find a few decent ones, but for the most part, they’re not worth the money, I can’t believe people get away with copyright infringement and hideousness in general for FIVE DOLLARS EACH!!!!! What a corrupt society we live in.
*rant over* Wow, this post is big.
Not as big as my Magic RPG post!!! *sticks out tongue**is pied*
*provides pies*

Wow, I haven’t been on MB in a while. So I’ll catch up real quick: I love the picture, Laby B, and I love Ducky’s avatar. My life is going fine (I’m sorry yours isn’t, Marfwarrior); I’ve been writing a lot. It snowed here too , and it’s nearly Christmas! I need to go shopping for presents.
And I blew 2/3 of my $50 B&N gift card on new Beatles CDs. Ah, joy.
What do you mean, “nearly Christmas?!?!?!” It’s Dec. 6th! *cries*
To me, the nearness of Christmas is relative to the amount of stuff left to be done before the date. In other words, it’s practically on the doorstep.
Ohhhhhhhhh. *feels slightly dumb for not realizing it*
Exactly my sentiments.
Wait, it’s really December?
Why, yes. Yes it is.
Please, please, PLEASE post on the Magic RPG!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t let it die!!!!
Because the announcement thread is closed…
THANK YOU, GAPAS.
I agree. Back when I was a ‘phyte… we still spammed those threads, actually.
Back when I was a ‘phyte…..The ‘phyte thread had deteriorated into a discussion/argument involving Chuck Norris. I believe my only post on a ‘phyte thread prior to being a paleo was along the lines of “Who the heck is Chuck Norris?!?!?!?!?!?!”
You didn’t know about Chuck Norris? What parallel universe have you been living in?
The same one I’ve been in, it seems.
I really hope something very big happens next year, like a cure for cancer or a signal from ETI being discovered, just to shame all the people who are already creating “Decade in Review” stuff.
Wait until January 2011, guys!
I learned to illuminate letters today. And how to do Flat Acanthus, which is sort of an illuminated border and looks amazing. Then I went out and bought pens and now I have illuminated A, C, and M, though not particularly well (C was definitely the worst one). And my gold paint pen started to leak all over my hands so I stopped for a bit. I want to do a border around the phrase “Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme” with the first letter of each herb illuminated, but I want to do it well and I’m reluctant to open up the paint pen again for fear of never being able to make my hands a normal color again.
awesome! What class is that for?
No class. There was a woman who did illuminations at an art gallery, and I went down to see and ended up staying for two+ hours just watching. And she showed me how to do all sorts of things, so I ran out and bought pens. Not the right kind, it turns out, but they’ll do.
It is 29.3 degrees F right now.

Sorry, I just had to get that out.
29 degrees? Lucky. The high for today was 20, and the low last night was -4.7.
Yeah, it’s literally 0 degrees here, and there’s lots of snow, which is sometimes nice, but isn’t so much fun when you have to get to your dorm, which is 5 minutes away, in 2 minutes in the snow with a gigantic book bag.
Gah posts.
There’s snow here, and today I got to see the Mother Church in Boston, it’s LOVELY, and it was nice to have sunday school with other kids instead of only me. *sigh*
And now it’s late and I need to get some sleep.
Goodnight world.
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood mornign MB!
Mornign?
Oooooh…. SpaceShipTwo unveiling…. Now!
Richard Branson… Burt Rutan… nice chairs… speeches… speeches… leather jacket… speeches… Governor Ahnold… extrordinary visionary… funny joke… Gov Richardson gets him back… historic day… the second Space Age… whisper whisper…
Go outside in a moment… questions and answers…
Annnnnnnd… live streaming ends.
Oh, I’m gonna terminate somebody alright…
OH MY GOD.
THE DEATHLY HALLOWS TRAILER IS OUT.
*dies and goes to Harry Potter heaven*
I watched it in graphic art, and my face was just glued to the screen. I am so excited.
It’s going to be *amazing*.
“Amazing?” The only thing amazing about any of the HP movies with David Yates as director is just how amazingly horrible they’ve been. I’ve given up all hope that the remaining movies will be any good at all. The sixth wasn’t–he screwed the whole Horcrux thing up so bad there’s no way he can salvage it and keep it at all close to the books, without throwing in a massive amount of stuff not in the books. And the fifth sucked was almost as bad as the sixth. Fourth and third (admittedly by different directors) weren’t all that far behind the fifth.
I think the reason that the HP movies will never live up to the books is that JKR makes a plot so complex that it is virtually impossible to do it justice. If I don’t compare the movies to the books, they are pretty good, but once I start noticing all the important details that the movies leave out, I wonder how they possibly think they are doing Harry Potter justice.
Even though the movies could never even TOUCH the books in my mind, I’m still really pumped about the fact that HALF BLOOD PRINCE IS COMING OUT ON DVD TOMAROW!!!
AHHH I AM SO EXCITED THAT THIS DESERVES ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I LOVE HARRY POTTER! GO HARRY POTTER GO HARRY POTTER the books are way better than the movies.
Good night, sweet blogophytes!
AN INFINITE NUMBER OF UBERWINS! School has been cancelled for tomorrow! Now I’ll have and extra two days to research, write, and create the Nerva website that was due tomorrow! *sighs the most relieved sigh that has been heard in years* And there’s a pretty good chance it’ll be cancelled on Wednesday as well.
*is extraordinarily happy*
Lucky Nebraskian, Over on the other side of Omaha (but not that part, farther away) in Iowa, Looks like wednesday, maybe early release
Just “Nebraskan”. No “i” needed.
Meh. We don’t get many snow days here. Actually, we get more at boarding school, because the teachers don’t want to drive out. But where I live, snow is normal and a snow day means that it is literally impossible to leave the house.
curses! I hope you spend you snow day well, I will be weeping bitterly while at school thinking of it (is this an exaggeration? right now, not sure )
*envy* Okay, I had/have yesterday/today off, but we never get snow days. What is it with living in Vienna? Yes, we don’t get that much snow, but we do have a fair amount every now and then. So why not do school-kids a favor? But no, they just send people out with snow shovels at 5 a.m. and the roads are nice and clear *headdesk*
Luna is questioning the wisdom of eating the cookies that were hanging in a sack on her door. But she has decided that she already ate the three pieces of candy in the bag, not to mention the bag was hung there by a churchy group. Some methodist church near campus, they had several adverts about their church/services, plus a letter explaining the symbolism of candy canes (candy cane included), with a hand written comment that God ♥ ‘s me and they look forward to seeing me….
Yeah, right. Bribes=good, church=not my thing.
Anyway, I doubt they’re going to try and poison me, not a good way to win converts. So, yes, cookies here I come.
Mmmmm, good cookies. If they’re poisonous, it’ll be worth it. Yummy oatmeal raisin. nom nom nom nom nom Sadly, only four of them. And I’ve eaten 1 1/2.
Well, if the church poisons you, you could go to Hell and meet Spike… (OK, I’m weird. You should have figured that out already.)
I’m every church’s worst nightmare: a Jewish atheist. (Yes, such a thing is real. Look up secular Judaism.)
Cookies sound good though… I don’t have much junk food in my room. Maybe, I’ll make tea…
Hmmm. Getting poisoned is sounding better and better. I get to hang out with (a hopefully shirtless) Spike, won’t have to worry about finals, and….Yup.
OK, it’s scary how much that sounds like a quote from one of the last episodes of Buffy.
What can I say? I’m psychic.
Just like when I was writing my argument on Snape being good and loyal to Dumbledore, prior to the release of DH, I used the phrase “for the greater good”, quite a few more times than I realized. I think it was that essay, anyway. And then…..in DH, what do we have but Gridelwald and Dumbledore and “for the greater good.”
Wow… You’re scary. Next thing I know, you’ll make references to the awesome Buffy/Spike moment in the last episode of the 2nd season. (It’s an awesome moment.)
Er, nevermind. I used “greater good”, but it wasn’t in that theory, it was in a response to a response to my Harry is a Horcrux theory…..Explaining why Voldie would still want to kill Harry, even if he was a Horcrux (assuming that he was even aware of that fact which, correctly, I didn’t believe he was).
Wait, Spike as in Thursday Next?
Spike as in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Ooooh man Spike.
What season are you on?
Season 2. I think the last episode i watched was #14, the second of the two parter Surprise/Innocence.
Well do not worry there is LOTS of yummy Spike scenes to come. But I won’t say anything else
I’m just now starting season six, but I only can watch an episode once every other week or so with all the stuff I’m doing >.<
Mmmm, judging from all the yummy Spike scenes in Innocence….. *drools*
I’ve heard that the sixth season is depressing… I’m about to start the third season, although apparently there isn’t as much Spike in that season. But Spike in the last episode of season two… I’m a hopeless fan girl.
And now we have pictures! And Enterprise is gorgeous!
*snurk* Piggy is sick. But Piggy is glad he doesn’t have school today and probably won’t tomorrow.
I saw an extremely intriguing result of a Rasmussen poll a few days ago. People were asked, “Suppose the Tea Party organized itself as a political party. When thinking about the next election for Congress, would you vote for the Republican candidate from your district, the Democratic candidate from your district or the Tea Party candidate from your district?” The results: Democrat 36%, Tea Party 23%, Republican 18%, and Unsure 22%. I smell change a-comin’.
It’s snowing here… Which I kind of like, actually… But at least tomorrow is Wednesday…
Yeah, I heard about that… Interesting example of voting theory, actually.
Snow. I wish. If this bleeped up state actually believe in snow, given the amount of precipitation currently falling from the sky, there’d probably be a good inch or so of snow. But, oh, no, it’s gotta be 34 degrees, and thus it’s pouring rain, no snow. Gah, I hate this state.
*sings* Roomie is moving out, roomie is moving out! *stops singing*
Only concern: One of the other res halls on campus in closing when Break starts, to undergo renovations. All the occupants are going to be moved into other dorms. With my luck, I’ll get stuck with one of them moving in, and she’ll be way worse than who I have, because as much as my current roomie annoys me, she could be quite a bit worse without much difficulty.
Yay! Good for you!
Hooray! With luck, you’ll get a good roommate this time.
Well, at least you’ll have a single room for the moment… I kind of wish I had a single room, but at the same time, it’s kind of nice having a roommate. I mean, we have an “L-room”, which means we barely even see each other, and we don’t really talk ever, but still…
Wow, they’ve already announced the second snow day.
*does the Very Happy Dance*
I hate snow days. I’d much rather have a free day in summer than in the freezing cold.
I have a cold.
If there’s a snow day tomorrow, I will be feeling ambivalent. The would mean our evening band concert is postponed, and we are SO NOT READY for a band concert. On the other hand, I need the X-block to work on my mask for Art, and playing for our parents would be good pratice for the concert the next morning.
Ugh, yous are all so lucky that yous have snow days. Me never gets snow days. Well sometimes we’ll have one or two each winter, but that’s just about it. And pretty much all of our snow has melted now so it’s just that yucky brown slush.
*sighs with envy* It’s only snowed once where I live, and there wasn’t much of it.
Tomorrow it might snow, and we might get a late start on school! We never have snowdays, only “late starts” days. Actually, it’s not such a great thing because tomorrow is our first all-grade chorus practice and it’s first thing in the morning. I’m a bit nervous for our concert, because I can’t really sing in the key of one of the songs; it’s too high (I’m a contralto). Also, tonight we are going to decorate our Christmas tree and I wrote a poem that I am very proud of. But, then again, today is the 29th anniversary of John Lenonn’s death. Is it a good day or a bad day? I feel very strange…
Oh, a delayed opening would be great. I could get the sleep I need for once.
Thing is, most schools don’t have the technology to turn off your alarm clock on late start days. lol
Still, you could go back to sleep. And your parents have the technology… (aka going into your room and turning off the alarm)
I never learn about late days until I’ve actually gone to the bus because my name is at the end of the call list…
The last two snow days I’ve had, I ended up going to school anyways because they were on the first Friday in March, which is the day before the regional competition for DI, and we have always had stuff left to do, so we ended up coming back to school to do that for a day.
I don’t have an alarm clock. My mom comes in and wakes me up.
That’s what I need, a mom to wake me up.
I wish I could just wake myself up whenever I needed to wake up. That way I’d be able to remember my dreams. If my alarm clock or someone else wakes me up, I’m jolted out of sleep and I forget almost all of whatever I’m dreaming about.
I don’t need anyone or anything to wake me up – I’m unschooled.
I just realized what your avatar was….. *shudder* *hides*
It’s nice to relax when your work is done and read comics and listen to music.
I came home from school and fell asleep, so none of my work is done x_x And I have a ton of crap to do for college stuff…
Also I’m leaving for hockey practice in 20 min. (eating dinner till then probably) then I’ll be home around 10 pm, so it’s going to be a late night for Jade. *sigh*
I just realized-it really annoy me when my French teacher says ‘good idea’ in French, because I always hear ‘Bunny Day’, and I sit up in my chair and get really scared. When is that, by the way?
Hmm… I’m so used to speaking in French during French class by now that I never would make that association. I guess it’s always funny listening to a language you don’t know well…
A girl in my homeroom once read a latin text by Julius Caesar (in latin) aloud and her friends tried a running translation. Apparently, one must be wary for seas of tomatoes and horses named scissors. I’m confused.
Snow……..
♥
Live in Bay Area. Never snows in Bay Area. Has snowed in Bay Area. Have built a snowman without driving for two hours beforehand for the first time. *happy glow*
However, I have also had to take my sparkly purple scarf and wrap it around my head to keep my freezing nose warm, which I hoped would make me look like a purple ninja but instead makes me look like a mentally deranged person from the Arabian Nights. Alas, no snow stuff to be worn where I live.
I have also sung fifteen Christmas carols while wearing a large menorah hat. And told everyone it’s much, much warmer in the 29th century in honor of Pretend You’re A Time Traveler Day. Which makes me happy.
Phobos, that’s today? I knew I’d forgotten something!
The Bay Area was freaking FREEZING this morning. We have this thermometer that shows the temperature outside, and I check it every morning to know how warmly to dress; today, I looked at it and it said ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, 0.7, but seriously. Really, people, really? This is Sunny California! Geez!
There was a truck parked near our school that had snow on it, and everyone had a snowball fight. It was AMAZING. It never snows here, ever! Some idiots put snow in their backpacks to throw at people in their classes, not realizing that, um, snow melts, and our classrooms are heated. It actually is pretty sunny today, but still FREEZING. Just in time for Christmas.
We got 1/2 inch of snow. I walked to my friend’s house while it was coming down, it was so nice…
My principal hates canceling school, and he only cancels when the buses aren’t running. I wish my math teacher were principal; he likes vacation even more than we do.
I had a thought- What if a MuseBlogger died? How would we ever know? We would just think they had stopped posting…
Sorry for the morbid thought.
I’ve thought about that many times.
I’ve actually wondered about that… Actually, it was more along the lines of ‘would my family think to tell MB about what happened to me if I was to commit suicide?’
No, I was not seriously contemplating suicide. No, I have never done so. Yes, I’m perfectly fine. No, please don’t be worried about me. Yes, I am an extremely random person. No, my random thoughts aren’t usually this morbid. It was an isolated incident.
Any other questions?
I happened to think about that too, but I guess that you just have to assume that everyone who stopped posting is having a fun somewhere else. I wouldn’t want anyone to tell the blog- just let everyone think I got to busy…
Nah, I think anyone privileged enough to enjoy the amazing company here would never have to think of such things.
I’ve thought about that too.
I’ve thought about that a lot, and even if anyone would tell MB if I died as my parents don’t know about it…
If I died, my mom would probably notify MB.
They’d just… be gone. We might never know.
Yeah, I know that I would tell everyone if someobody I knew off the blog like Kokonilly or Goldendoodle died. But then again, I wouldn’t want to tell because of the somberness it would bring. This is a really weird thougt. 0.o
My parents would probably not think to notify MB…I mean, they know that it exists but not much more beyond that….sadly.
This reminded me that I need to write my will.
er, why?
So that MB will know if I died, among several other things.
Why would you say that? Personally, I’d rather you just think that I got to busy to post. But it would help if you include in which century you think you ended up in so that we can look for you in our history books
Yeah, I have a USB drive with folders with people’s names on them, and a note for each of them in it.
Or I will once I actually start writing them. There’ll be an MB one too. I’d have to update every now and then though.
But eventually when I’ve finished it, I’ll hide it somewhere, and tell a friend that if something happens there’s a USB in x location, and that I’d like them to distribute everything to everyone.
102- I KNOW! I think this sometimes…[insert MBer here] hasn’t posted in two years…is en even still alive?
103- In case you get sent to the 18th century by the Weeping Angels?
I’m more worried about getting sent back a few million years and freezing to death instantly in the heart of a glacier. Not everyone they send adrift in Time lives happily ever after.
Ow.
Freezing would be such a painful death.
But I really don’t think I would live very happily-ever-after if I was sent to a random point in time. Think how MISERABLE. You would never know what happened, never be able to see your family and EXPLAIN what happened…
It snows in Texas, but it rains here?
It’s a very weird world out there.
It’s snowing here, not a lot, but a smidge. Looks like more than it is, I think, due to the wind that has chosen to accompany it. It’s 19 degrees not including wind chill, which will be great fun to walk to class.
But it’s snowing, which is what’s important, even if there is only a little bit on the ground, not even enough to cover the cement walkways, much less the grass.
SNOW DAY!!!!!
It hasn’t snowed that much, but it all came down during crucial snow clearing time.
I am going to go buy HBP on DVD and have a party with myself this afternoon.
I’m getting it for Christmas (or, at least, I think I am. It was on my list. I’d be surprised if it didn’t show up under the tree), so….Yeah.
I’m at school (bad Sudo!) and I’m just posting about the snow: It’s snowing here, but it’s too warm for snow, so the snow forms high in the atmosphere, and then when it gets down here it starts to mel, so the roads and sidewalks are covered in slush and grossness. Bleh.
Yes, very bad Sudo. How dare you go to school?
I don’t know. I’m ashamed of myself.
Sorry for all the typos in the parent post, I was typing on a stupid school computer (coughcoughwindows) and it was so slow I could barely see what I was typing.
Ah, this second snow day is marvelous. Overnight there were blizzard-esque conditions, so we have drifts three or four feet high in the backyard while there are patches of bare grass elsewhere on the property. I do so love snow.
Snow day! I’m going sledding this afternoon. I don’t know how that’s going to pan out though, because it is quite windy here. I suppose I’ll just use my amazing ski goggles.
Snow day!!!!!! I had snow and maple syrup this morning!!!!
No way. You all had snow days?!?!?! Not fair!!!!!
Inquiry day, actually. At my school, every Wednesday juniors and seniors go do scientific research and sophomores do whatever they want.
Dear everyone who has snow days:
Please, please, PLEASE ship me some. If we have two millimeters, it’ll be enough to close school. Much appreciated.
Tesseract
Oh hey, POSOC’s back! *pies* I was wondering where you’d gone…umm….yesterday. I think. Anyway, recently. Good to see you around again, do be sure to check out the Paleo threads, if you haven’t already.
I almost got some henna today to color my hair, but chickened out. Maybe another time…..that sounds like fun. Though I just saw that the color lasts for several months….hmmmm. That seems like a long time.
But whatever, I still think it’d be fun.
My mom said I could ask my 16-year-old cousin if she could dye a streak of my hair blue! Please don’t try to talk me out of it, I get enough of that from my school friends.
Or you could get a hair extention. That’s what I did. It’s purple. <3
Blue hair is amazing. I want to dye my hair, but I’m a guy.
You’re a guy?! I did not know that!
*laughs at thought of Enceladus as girl*
Sorry. I shouldn’t laugh. It took me the longest time to figure out Piggy was a guy. I think CTN shocked me too, when I figured out she’s a girl.
CTN is a girl?
*laughs too* I also thought that Piggy was female for several months. I’ve always wanted to put a random streak in my hair. My mom said I could do that over the summer, but I couldn’t decide on what color, so it never happened. The weird shade of blond I have doesn’t look quite right with a lot of colors.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. They’ve cancelled school tomorrow due to a wind chill advisory. The wind chill’s only supposed to be maybe 30 below at the coldest. We’ve had school many times when it was that cold or colder. But this year they’ve apparently decided that it’s too cold.
I don’t even see the point of going on Friday. They should just cancel that as well.
We haven’t gotten a single day off yet….but yeah, that doesn’t sound pretty ridiculous. I mean c’mon, wind chill? What sort of excuse is that?
SFTDP
Oops, I meant to write, “That DOES sound pretty ridiculous.” Sorry.
I wish I lived in your county. There were ice on the roads so thick we could barely drive without swerving. I almost got in a car accident trying to leave my block. It was terrible, especially because my mom no longer trusts me with her van.
Fortunately, we just got five inches of snow, and there’s still mroe coming our way, so the chances of school tomorrow seems slim if they can’t clear the roads!
Everyone has snow, except for me and Tesseract. Waahh!!!
I don’t either.
And Ducky♩♪♫♬â™â™®â™¯!!!! BWAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nor me.
Or me. LBK, you shouldn’t base complaints on inaccurate information.
The magic of snow wears off after you have to walk back and forth across campus in it. I wish it would go away.
Yeah….I was just thinking on my third (or maybe even only on my second) trek across campus today that, “Dangit, I take back what I said! I want the weather to go back up to the 60s! Forget the snow if it means freezing cold wind!”
And there’s not even enough snow for the cold to have been worthwhile, I mean not even a centimeter of accumulation for a day of freezing weather. And my spanish teacher seemed surprised I thought it was cold (It was mid teens, not including the wind chill. Without the wind chill, it would’ve been fine. I mean, cold, yes, but not omg, get me inside now I’m freezing my butt of cold. Or my face, because my butt wasn’t actually cold. But that just doesn’t ahve the same ring to it.). I guess she seems to think that because I’m from Alaska, I wouldn’t find this cold. Ummmm, below freezing is still cold, even if you live somewhere where it occurs fairly regularly for a large portion of they year. *grumbles about morons*
We don’t have snow either, but this is our first cold season and it’s FREAKING COLD. I know 37 degrees doesn’t sound so bad to some of you, but this is southern California here. We aren’t really used to cold. And it’s windy. And it rained Monday. That was cold too.
Subtract 50 from that and you’ll get the rough temperature here.
You people and your lack of real weather. *shakes head*
If it’s above freezing, it isn’t cold.
It is for me (California blonde )
So, apparently the Marvel Database Wiki has a “NASA” article, but it’s just a blank template.
Which stinks, because if one of those superfans who owns practically every issue of everything does major editing, it could be a thing of pure awesomeness that would keep me reading for hours.
Real-world things that have an overlapping existance in comics don’t get enough attention. But having a comprehensive article would be really cool. I want to read about that one time in 1964 Iron Man fought some crazy superpowered Russian spy at Cape Canaveral.
Overview of the last couple of days (since December 7th, 2009 @ 21:18)
At 5:34 on tuesday morning I threw up.
Then I threw up again at 7:35
And then I slept until 1:22 (No school for me, everyone else had early release)
And then I had some water and slept some more.
And then around 7 I ate some crackers and then at 7:30 I watched prep and landing.
And then The school announced no school on Wednesday.
And I went to bed.
And I woke up at 5:30 today, and have gone between homework and Hulu and MB and Wikipedia.
So yeah…
No school tomorrow.
But I have a debate tournament on friday.
My bat Mitxvah is in two and a half weeks. I’m going to go insane around… now, probably.
Good luck! Mazel tov.
Thanks .
*doesn’t have snow either*
Typical vienna weather. It quite cold and raining, it gets dark way to early (as in, before 4:00 p.m. , I’d have to look up the exact time) and there’s no snow to cheer me up!
*headdesk*
116- Nor me! Although it actually snowed last friday. Probably the first time I’ve ever seen it falling. No, probably not, but certainly the first time I remember. It was amazing. ^.^
Actually, not particularly. Snowed for maybe half an hour, very lightly, didn’t stick, hasn’t snowed since… Basically just little puffs floating down. But I thought it was amazing.
In other news, I got my hair cut today. It’s fairly short now, like chin length. Before it was below my shoulders. It feels peculiar.
My hair has been alternating between chin-ish length and longer for some time now…
In Astronomy class, we got to watch the fifth episode of Cosmos! And our teacher says he’s a big Sagan fan, too!
It is SO cold outside right now. According to my computer, it’s 14 degrees. And it is really cold in the Fine arts wing at our school and everyone nearly froze to death in orchestra. It would’ve been really cold going to gym (it’s in a separate building) but we’re doing health right now, thankfully, in the gym teacher’s math classroom.
There’s 1-2 inches of snow on the ground, you can still see the grass a little..
OK, so we’re doing this thing in science where we are dropping an egg from either the roof or the third floor window. We have to build structures that will keep the egg in one piece, using only bendy straws and masking tape. The idea is to get it to the ground as slowly as possible, and to convert the kinetic energy when the egg hits the ground into the straws, instead of the egg’s shell. Has anybody ever done this before, or any variation, and if somebody has, does en have any design ideas?
Well, the device is less likely to smash if you use a lot of triangles, but that might make it too firm.
I’ve never done that, but my first thought would be:
Make a “cage” out of the straws that is three to four inches bigger in diameter than your egg, using the tape to fasten the straws together. Suspend your egg in the middle of the cage with the masking tape, tethering it to the cage in at least two locations. In theory, if your straw cage is big enough, your egg won’t smash against it, and by suspending it in the middle, the egg will not be absorbing enough energy to smash, as it will be able to move in its hammock…..
But I dunno. That’s all probably easier said than done, and probably wouldn’t work as well as one might hope……Especially as the straws will probably bend on impact, causing the egg to hit the ground regardless of the initial space between egg and straws……
Straws? I’ve wrapped it in bubble wrap, which works pretty well. Maybe look at pumpkin drop threads?
Oooh, the Eggs-Prize! We did that at Space Academy!
The most stable shape in this situation is a tetrahedron, or pyramid. We had cotton balls and cardboard, so it was a little different, but I would say: go with a basic pyramid built around the egg, and add straws sticking out to take the immediate impact. Kind of imagine a porcupine pyramid, that would be my suggestion.
I just got IE8. I can see all the avatars now! Yayayay. I was really confused when I came on here because I’m so used to the half avatars on IE7.
It’s starting to warm up. No. It can’t. It must snow. I can’t have any more of these silly clear skies. I need some clouds rolling in.
And my avatar looks pretty sweet!
I just saw a Geminid meteor!
Our tree looks so bee-yooteeful. It snowed, it really did (no late start, though) , but then it rained so now it’s all slush. Ew. I hate slush. It’s ugly and pitiful-looking. Today I got the flu (not H1N1) vaccine. My arm feels like it’s about to fall off.
I am going to audition for the school cabaret in January. I want to sing “I Need You,” but I can’t find a halfway decent karaoke version of it. Christmas Holiday break is coming up soon; yay. I’m just rambling so…yeah.
114.1~ I’m not going to talk you out of it, that sounds like fun! I’ve considered a really dark blue or green before too, and may try it out sometime with Kool-Aid (I’ve heard that makes a good temporary dye). I’ll have to look into that too.
I’m home again, can’t read all these posts, off to watch a movie with the parental units….
Oh, no. Don’t use kool-aid. My (older) friend (who I trust to tell the truth) said her roommate used it to dye her hair red, and it was bright red. Like, Fire-engine. And then she couldn’t get it out, not even with more dye.
Luna feels the need to announce that her psych professor is a hypocrite. In the syllabus, she wrote a whole paragraph on proper email etiquette.
“Always address the person to whom you are writing, because it is rude to simply start out with your message with no recognition of the person to whom you are writing.”
“….always end your message with a ‘thank you’.” [I would like to point out that this bit doesn’t even “always” make sense.]
I just received an email from the prof, in response to my email asking for confirmation of the time of the final tomorrow, because I realized that the syllabus didn’t say it anywhere, nor did I have it in writing, and I wanted to confirm that I was correct.
Her response consisted of one word, “Yes!”, no “Hi, Michelle,” or “Dear Michelle,” or any acknowledgement of to whom she was writing. And she didn’t end the message with a “thank you”, although that wouldn’t have made much sense in the context, but…..she does say that it is proper etiquette to “always end your message with a ‘thank you’.”
Hypocrite.
128~ Hmmm. I think I’d try a darker color, and my hair is rather dark already (it’s brown). My cousin has hair that absorbs colors (even washable markers she claims would never come out).
Does your friend have light or treated hair? That could make a difference.
Her hair was dark brown.
Good morning MB! Such a loverly day is this! And my high school is going to the state championships. Yay. *imagines sefl having to go to a pep rally today in the cold and wind and rain* *wants to rebel*
Good morning! I don’t have any school today…In Service, yayness! But unfortunately as I’m looking at the calendar I’ve just realized that next week I have five quizzes/tests next week, with a possible Latin test. Ugh…
One final down, 3 to go. Really, though, why did the school have to schedule my psych final to be at 8 in the bloody morning? And of course, the test was a 75 problem MC test, so it didn’t even take an hour, much less the two provided. I’m seriously contemplating going back to bed for awhile…..I didn’t even get 6 hours of sleep last night–it was about 1 before I got to bed, and closer to 1:30/1:45 before I fell asleep–only to have to get up at 6:30. So….yeah. A nap is starting to sound better and better.
Speaking of my final, though, I think it went pretty well. Out of 75, I think there were only about 10 questions I wasn’t entirely certain on…..Of course, that would only give me about an 86% on the test, which isn’t necessarily enough for an A. It all depends on how many points my Service Learning supervisor gives me for my SL…A number I don’t know yet. *sigh* It would probably (hopefully) give me an A-, just not necessarily an A. Dangit, I wish I knew what my SL supervisor gave me……
Well, if they’re 5 part multiple choice and you got all of the 65 you knew right and you arbitrarily guessed on the others, that should be 67 right, which is about 89%, I think. (I did that in my head, so I might be off by 1% or so.) 67.5 right is enough for a 90.
They were actually 4 part MC. If I only got 65 right, I need to receive a 161/175 from my Service Learning supervisor, in order to get a 93% in the class. 90-92 is only an A-…..
Urgh, and Luna really needs to learn to set limits on her naps. 9:15/9:30 until 12:45 is utterly ridiculous……
161/175 doesn’t seem too hard… And your expected score (given that you were arbitrarily guessing on the ones you didn’t know) would be 67.5, which is exactly 90%.
Supposedly 20-minute naps are the best. Personally, I like nice, long ones.
Well, see, the thing is…..I’m worried I”m going to be getting marked down, because I missed one of the days because the…..jerk…..who had offered me a ride never showed. I mean, I made up the hours going in early the remaining days, but….I wouldn’t be in the least surprised if I got marked down a bit for that…..
Wow.
Hi! Are you new? If so, please visit the Welcome Neophytes thread! There’s a link below.
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=5292
I’ve seen en post before.
Oh sorry, I didn’t recognize the name and I couldn’t find it in Who’s Here…
It’s there now. We get behind sometimes.
Hair dying- Different colors sound cool, but usually look a bit strange in the long run. Maybe you could try a fun idea from my austrian friends; on fat tuesday (or any other random day everyone agrees on), you wear random crazy costumes and everyone buys a can of the cheep spray-on washes-out hair dye. That way, you can experiment before spending lots of money and maybe getting stuck with a color you don’t like/doesn’t suit you, and you know how well it works with different clothes (I now know that red or silver hair doesn’t suit me. Oh well. But somehow, it would look odd in ballroom dancing class).
So, I’ve had a loverly 11 hour school day with an important french test (topics; france in WW2, the book we read months ago and la francophonie, as in dates and figures and population and economy of Sénégal and another former french colony of choice). *headesk* Now I know what a brain-dead vegetable feels like.
This is kind of random, but it’s the random thread isn’t it? Anyway, the Magic RPG is dying!!!! I am here as a public service to it. So, if you like magic, please come!!!!
Luna feels smart. I was just beginning to read the Nov/Dec Muse magazine (yes, I’m aware it’s well into December, but I only got the mag from my mom this past weekend).
[Perhaps you should put this on the Nov/Dec discussion thread with a spoiler warning? Some of the others may not have worked on this yet, even if they’ve read the magazine. –Admin.]
I still don’t have mine… And I go home every weekend. *blames the little sister*
Whoops…..Sorry, didn’t even think about that.
Bad Luna.
I think I’ll walk to the library every Friday after school from now on, it’s very good exercise and a lot of fun.
(Unfortunately, my mom brought my PSAT results with her when she picked me up, and I have to get a Math tutor because I was in the 75th percentile.)
I don’t want to wake up really early tomorrow. I don’t want to as in it’s the last thing I want to do. Well, maybe not the very last. Penultimate might be better.
Oh, the other day I heard someone use the word “penultimate” in a conversation and I cracked up (the person he said it to didn’t get it. Yes, I was eavesdropping. Kind of.).
I’m rambling, aren’t I?
Yes, I am. I need to go pack so I can leave for VA tomorrow morning at some ungodly hour of the morning. I really don’t want to wake up that early. Eeeeew.
So I just got this email from residential life: Over the break, Residential Life staff will be entering your room to reprogram your thermostat…….The reprogramming will allow you to set the heating temperature in your room to 72 degrees OR COOLER. Essentially, you will have the ability to set the temperature anywhere below and up to 72 degrees. In the summer, this process is reversed – you will be able to set your room to 72 degrees OR WARMER. (bold is my emphasis)
At first, I start reading it, thining: “Great! I’ll actually be able to dial down the temp in my room to a pleasant temp in the summer, instead of being stuck unable to turn it down below 73, no matter how bloody hot it is outside.”
And then I get to the last sentence, and–total doubletake.
I mean, that’s backwards. totally, bloody backwards. In the summer, 72 degrees inside my dorm is way too blasted hot. I don’t want to be able to keep it 72 or warmer in the summer, I want to be able to turn it DOWN in the summer, not keep it boiling hot. And in the winter? Why would I want to keep my room COLDER in the winter than the summer? I mean, 72 is a decently comfortable temp inside in the winter, but…..I mean, I realize this probably saves them heating costs or some such garbage, but…..It’s completely backwards as far as comfort for the inhabitants goes. It’s always way too warm in the room most of the year (anytime that it’s above freezing outside), because it won’t go below 73. Why on earth would I want my room cold in the winter, but hot during the summer?!?!?!??!?!
*Curses the stupidity of the idiot people in charge*
Mwahaha! It’sFriday and our librarian didn’t make us go oo the pep rally, so my friend and I got to stay inside while the rest of the school froze their buns off. >:)
Any college football fans out there? Any predictions for the Heisman tonight? I am obviously rooting for Suh. That man is like a combination of Chuck Norris and Batman.
So, I was reading this article where the first line was “Griffith applauds project ‘guarantee’; moves to Senate.”, and I misread it as “Griffin applauds project ‘guarantee’, moves to Seattle.”
(Micheal Griffin, the former head of NASA, not a griffin like the magical creature.)
Still funny.
And now for something rather gross!
Recently I have had a large, red lump. At first it was smaller and bruise-colored, but then it got bigger and redder quickly. It was going to have to be removed, but it exploded last night on its own! I woke up at about 5 A.M., and realized that the upper half of my body was wet and sticky. My first thought was that I’d drooled on myself, but then I realized that that was impossible, because only the inside of my nightgown was wet. (Stretch velour doesn’t let liquid through very easily.) Then I realized that the lump was gone, and that it must have exploded, so I woke up my mom, took off the pus-covered nightgown, and grabbed a washcloth and began wiping my self off while Mom got out of bed. Meanwhile, the lump, which turned out to be some sort of pus-filled infected thing, was oozing pus, and then a black thing that looked like a seed came out, which made sense because the end of the lump had been dark. I actually wasn’t grossed out at all. I was quite happy that it wouldn’t have to be poked open by a total stranger, but had just exploded open on its own. I did take a shower afterwards.
So, were you grossed out by this?
P.S. It’s snowing!
Not particularly. I’ve seen too many abscesses poked and prodded and drained on dogs/cats to be squeamish about hearing about one on a human. Perhaps if I’d been there and seen it (you’re not a dog or cat, afterall, and human stuff gets to me sometimes, although animal stuff really doesn’t), or definitely if it had been on me…….
Anyway, snow. Send some my way, p*ease?
I actually thought “Luna won’t be grossed out by this!” as I was posting that.
I’m just glad you didn’t send video. Especially as I was eating lunch at the time your post showed up in the queue.
YES! I grossed out a GAPA!
It wasn’t really that bad.
Fine way to show respect for your elders, Ms. Ducky.
In actual fact, I’m not all that squeamish except when it comes to movies about alien life forms squirming beneath human flesh then erupting through the skin with lots of gooshy sound effects and miscellaneous gloopy spewings.
Yay for aliens! *wonders if her mother got her updated Christmas list and if her mother will take it into account*
Oh, sorry, aliens remind me of Torchwood, which reminds me that I added the TW companion books to my Christmas list at the last minute. As in, on Tuesday. Very last minute…..I actually added 18 things to the list. the 15 TW books counted as one item.
It was just prior to my lunch……Didn’t curb my appetite in the slightest (unfortunately), as I still ate four slices of pizza…..In other words, half of a large pizza. whoops. *is stuffed*
Lovely. Remind me never to study medicine or biology of any sort. (I might make an exception for evolutionary biology, but given that that’s my worst grade…)
One word. Eew.
I guess that’s a little gross but to tell you the truth I’m more squeamish when it comes to animals than anything else. As strange and gross as this may sound, I enjoy popping pimples and such on my skin. Especially when the ooze stuff. But…ok, I don’t think you need/want any more detail than that.
Ew.
I read that just before dinner. No effect on appetite. THat sort of thing only grosses me out with animals.
Random discovery: The hollow metal bar in our closet spaces in the dorm come out. They’re about 4 feet long, nicely weighted, and would make an excellent weapon to smash someone’s skull in with…….
er, yes, I am the odd sort of person who tends to think of how everyday objects can become weapons. but, y’know, if they ever actually sent us into red alert and had us lock ourselves in our rooms cuz there was some maniac on campus, it would be nice to know I had something besides a box cutter with which to defend myself.
You’ve discovered a zombie bar in your dorm? They are in one of the dorms on my campus and all of my friends talk about how they have zombie bars.
Zombie bar? *is confuzzled*
But yeah, the bar that you hang your clothes on comes out…..
Probably a bar to bash zombies with.
Ugh. I have what must be the mother of all colds.
145- Your post inspired me to search my room for available weapons and I realized that one of the large metal bars on my window (since we live in a tall building- not in a jail) is detachable. I dropped it on my toe and sprained it.
THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT:
Anyone who participates in the BA:TNG thread, PLEASE post! I know that everyone is busy and that there are tons of other interesting threads on this blog, but nobody has really been posting except for me for these past two weeks and I feel like I’m trying to hold the whole thing together on my own. So PLEASE, PLEASE try to find time in your schedules to post!
Sincerely,
Kittymine
What’s the BA:TNG thread?
Bunny Apocalypse: The Next Generation.
*Bunny Apocalypse: The Next Generation. An RPG.
Thanks!
Piggy’s mind seems to have become increasingly alarming over the past few days. He can’t say what thoughts he’s been thinking, but they’re somewhat disturbing.
Also, Suh deserved the Heisman far more than any of those other losers.
Don’t worry about your mind. I think boarding school is eating my soul. I was researching the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and thinking “Burning bodies falling from 10th floor windows…how amusing!”
So….hello, MB. I haven’t been posting a lot lately (actually, I haven’t been posting at all lately), and I’m sorry ’bout that….I’ve been sorta busy.
My homeschool group performed our play today…it went decently, considering. There were only 15 people in the audience, which was maybe just as well, really… XD Nobody crashed and burned, though Liam got stage fright. I messed up a couple of times, but the nice thing about a play you’ve written yourself is that nobody’ll notice that.
Also….I’m leaving MA on Wednesday. 0_o I’ll be in Florida until the 30th, but I’m not sure how much internet access I’ll have. I’m sorta freaked out….has it seriously been a whole year since the last time already? Wow….scary.
Nothing more to say, really….I’m sorta tired. *yawn*
So I am concussed.
During my hockey game today I got slammed into the boards and hit my head on the ice pretty hard. I got up and fine (I think, but I’m not actually how long I was on the ice for) and got to the bench, skated another shift, and then had to sit out for the rest of the game (like 6 minutes).
We went to the ER because I I was really dizzy and had a headache, and then my hands went sort of numb (that sometimes happens when I get migraines). Also I kind of lost coherency, I couldn’t think of the words I was trying to say.
So I sat around for ages in the ER, and I got better eventually before the CAT scan I was supposed to have because there were people ahead of me, so the doctor just let me leave. I have to wait for at least 3 days before I can play again though : /
Oh, wow. That must’ve hurt!
Sympathy pies to you. Exactly the same thing happened to me when I was 14, except that I was playing soccer on a frozen-over lake. I had been such a normal child up to that point…
Soccer. In winter. On ice. Yeah, that passes for normal around here.
I sometimes wonder how many I.Q. points I lost in that accident — though, if I was doing that, I suppose I couldn’t have had too many to start with.
SFTDP We may have a neophyte coming, if she gets off of her lazy bottom and comes here.
We put our tree up! It’s a small fake one in the living room, pre-lighted, so the lighting looks very professional. We put on some strings of beads and ornaments and it looks very nice.
What happened to my previous post? Strange…
Never mind. Now I’ll get back to work…
Awww, poor Jadestone! *gives candy*
Happy Chanukah!
I got the two best presents I could’ve hoped for.
#1: iPod Touch.
#2: I get to go see the Harry Potter exhibit in February! I’m so excited! My cousins went and they said it was unbelievable.
*is envious* It’s still in Boston then, right? After Boston it’s going on to….Toronto, i believe it was. *sigh* still not particularly more likely that I’ll get to go.
Nice. My parents are paying for my trip to Paris, so I’m not really getting many other Hanukkah presents… I got a copy of Gashlycrumb Tinies… Kids dying! I saw the HP exhibit when it was in town. It was quite good.
Ugh, I wish I lived in/around Boston to see that! It sounds like such an interesting exhibit!
Tesseract – those sound like great gifts! Lucky lucky!
I want an iTouch for Christmas this year.
Piggy’s newest sure-to-fail experiment: lucid dreaming. The main problem, though, is that I can barely remember any dreams. But hopefully I’ll be able to train my brain up.
And I’m also conducting an experiment to see how addictive Twitter actually is. Oops, I’d better “tweet” something; I haven’t for a few hours now.
Happy Chanukah, everybody!
Lately my life has not been interesting. However, tomorrow is dance and we are practicing lifts and I am not pleased with having to catch a girl who is nearly my height in midair.
156–How are you going to go about dreaming lucidly? I know what it is, but I don’t know how one could actually do it.
Well, first I have to practice remembering my dreams, which may take a while to become proficient at. But the apparent way to become lucid in a dream is to do “reality checks”, like making sure you have the right number of fingers on each hand, that you can’t fly–those sorts of things. I’ve read that it’s easiest to get in that habit during waking hours, and the habit should stay with you once you go to sleep. So when I think of it I stop and count my fingers and make sure time is traveling in the correct direction.
I never tend to notice things like that when I’m dreaming… The one sure way to tell for me is that I can’t fall over forwards. Even when I trip, I end up falling backwards and usually waking up in bed.
I have lucid ones from time to time, but I do not cherish the interpretations to them-I had a very realistic dream about frying my friend’s parakeet after my sister’s alarm went off at 6 a.m. on Saturday. It (the bird) was called Peder (unlike my friend’s bird), but looked the same and I also fried it in their kitchen and served it with rice and orange sauce. Repressed anger issues? Yes.
Fatigue and finals.
Presentation tomorrow. I’m doomed.
This calls for a poem. It’s by W. H. Auden, though it’s not exactly the kind of doom you have in mind:
The Wanderer
Doom is dark and deeper than any sea-dingle.
Upon what man it fall
In spring, day-wishing flowers appearing,
Avalanche sliding, white snow from rock-face,
That he should leave his house,
No cloud-soft hand can hold him, restraint by women;
But ever that man goes
Through place-keepers, through forest trees,
A stranger to strangers over undried sea,
Houses for fishes, suffocating water,
Or lonely on fell as chat,
By pot-holed becks
A bird stone-haunting, an unquiet bird.
There head falls forward, fatigued at evening,
And dreams of home,
Waving from window, spread of welcome,
Kissing of wife under single sheet;
But waking sees
Bird-flocks nameless to him, through doorway voices
Of new men making another love.
Save him from hostile capture,
From sudden tiger’s leap at corner;
Protect his house,
His anxious house where days are counted
From thunderbolt protect,
From gradual ruin spreading like a stain;
Converting number from vague to certain,
Bring joy, bring day of his returning,
Lucky with day approaching, with leaning dawn.
No way, that’s one of the poems I’m reading for Forensics this year!
Sorry! The last thing we want to do here is remind people of school.
At least you’ve never had to do a summative. *shudders* It’s a really long paper in which you must connect history to contemporary events. Naturally, you have not covered the history or the contemporary events in class, so you have to do a ton of research and find “textual, visual, and quantitative data.” (Yep, quotes, pictures, statistics, graphs, and just about anything else you can think of.) Then, you have to write paper in website form using Microsoft Exoression Web, which is a really bad piece of software. After that, you turn it in and soon get the assignment for the next summative… I’m so glad my final one for this semester is done.
Do do do doooo….
I just had my first foreign congress the other day! ‘Twas very exciting! I am now officially obsessed with model congress. My delegation has all of these crazy cheers. It’s great.
Towards the end of the day day on Saturday, we had a plenary (which is everyone from all of the other delegations together in the audotorium, debating). I really wanted to pass one bill, does the media put too much pressure on us to be overly thin? So, this resulted in me screaming on the top of my lungs “MOTION TO MOVE BILL NUMBER TWENTY-SIX!!!!” for about twenty minutes. (Consequently, I had a killer sore throat the next day.) Despite my screaming and my murderous glares, I didn’t get picked on. Oh well. I’ll just have to wait for the next foreign congress.
Sounds like you had a lot of fun!
Yeah, I’m changing my name back. It was fun while it lasted, though. Also, I missed German and Music Humanities for the 3rd time in a row today!! *glee glee infinite glee*
I’m home again, and this time for a whole week! Huzzah! I don’t have to live out of a duffel bag/backpack/other piece of luggage.
This is a Good Thing.
It also means I’ll have time to do some schoolwork and write that darned resume. *sigh*
Oh, I met a former muser yesterday! Well, I’ve actually known him for years, but I didn’t now he used to read Muse. He saw my Koko for Pres button and made a comment about the “fertility god for president? That’s cool….” and I mumbled something about it being from a magazine I read.
“…Muse?”
“Yeah! You’re familiar with it?”
“Yeah, I used to read it!”
“Ever been on MuseBlog?”
“Nope, I haven’t actually…”
“Check it out sometime, it’s fun.”
“Will do, when my internet starts working again.”
Who knew? Although, looking back, it makes perfect sense.
