Muse Academy Holiday Party 2009

Welcome, dear friends, to our winter celebration! (Or summer should you be visiting from the Southern Hemisphere.) Find your way to the Grand Hall, up that slight rise over there, just follow the row of wrought-iron street lamps to the main door. Shake off the snow, leave your greatcoats, cloaks, and capes with the attendant. Take a moment to warm yourself by the fire and breathe deeply the mingling scents of cinnamon, chocolate, bayberry, and pine; linger; absorb; note the wandering hints of ginger and peppermint before entering the ballroom to behold such sights…. Oh, but pardon me, I am detaining you here in the cold when you must be eager to thaw yourselves in cozier surroundings. Go, then, and enjoy the sundry delights waiting to greet the fullness of your senses as you step into our Victorian wonderland…

The festivities last until the New Year. For more information, please see the Holiday Party Planning Thread.

  2. ((First post? I doubt it is, but still…)

I stride into the grand room and take off my long coat. I am wearing a short yet formal, flowing red dress with gold embroidery. My hair is tied up into a French braid, and I feel grand.

  3. As I enter the grand room, I hand my coat to an assistant. My dress is fine silk embroidered with silver stars and hangs down to almost the tips of my dark blue high heels. My hair is loose, with a silver headband in it. “Hello, soccer starr and Ducky. How are you this fine evening?” I ask, warming my hands by the fire.

  4. I push open the door and stride into the room, flakes of snow on my nice black dress. I walk over to the three others by the fire, and wave happily. “My, the first time I haven’t been late to a party! How nice it is here.” I laugh, sit down in a plump armchair, and stare absentmindedly into the blazing orange fire.

  5. I waltz into the room. “Hello, everyone!” I say brightly. I am wearing a flowy maroon dress down to the tops of my knees, and matching dark red high heels. My curly brown hair is pulled back a in a bow of red holly. I am also carrying two instrument cases, one of them twice the size of the other but both are stringed instruments, trussed in black. I waste no time in walking onto the stage and stowing the larger of the two instruments backstage. My cello can wait, i want to show everyone my new surprise. I take my shiny new guitar out of its’ case, pull up a stool and sit down onstage in front of the microphone.
“Hello, Muse Academy!” I grin. “I learned to play guitar this fall, and I think I’m ready to play for you. here’s an old holiday favorite.” I place my long fingers on the strings and begin to strum the first chords of ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, and start to sing.

  6. Snow clouds my hair. I pull my French Horn out of nowhere and join in on Jingle Bell Rock.

  7. I clap enthusiastically as agrrrfishi begins to play, coming out of my trance. “The music! ‘Tis beautiful!” I say, and look absentmindedly down at my black boots. The seven-inch heels were most likely waiting to be stomped to the tune of the song, so I start to tap.

  8. Having just finished making the mulled cider, I turn to see a number of girls sitting in front of the fire. “Hello, everyone.”

  9. I walk into the room, brushing off the snow that dusts my hair. I breathe in the warmth and head to the fire right away, for I neglected to wear a coat. My dress is a dark crimson one that layers neatly to my knees. Under the velvet outer layer, there is a fleecy layer that is invisible to others, but it keeps me warm. A guitar and a French Horn, I think to myself, A wonderful combination.

  10. I slip in, brushing snowflakes out of my hair, and look around, delighted with the Victorian decorations. I remove my coat and hang it up with the few that are already in the coat closet. I am wearing dark blue silky pants and a black turtleneck.

There is already a band starting up with “Jingle Bell Rock”, and I move closer to the stage to hear better.

  11. I stride in, wearing a dark red dress that reach to my lower calves. My ankle-high brown, high-heeled boots clack nicely over the floor as I hang my long brown suede jacket in the coat closet. I dust the snow from my hair, which is curled, and perch on the edge of a comfortable leather chair by the fireplace. My cheeks soon grow pink from the warmth and excitement. “‘Jingle Bell Rock’ is one of my favourite holiday songs.” I say to the group surrounding me.

  12. I walk in, feeling quite comfortable in my heeled black leather boots, black-with-silver-sparkly-designs knee-length dress, and nearly floor-length black coat. I hang the coat on a hanger and click (they’re heeled boots, after all) up to where everyone else is. My hair feels comfortable in a large spiky bunch on top of my head.

  13. Jingle Bell Rock is playing as I enter the ballroom and my nose tingles with the warmth of the room. I pull off my gloves and remove my cape, revealing a rich brown velvet dress, trimmed with cream satin, which falls to the floor in a series of ruffled layers. My hair is swept up in an elaborate and old-fashioned hairstyle, and laced throughout with creamy ribbons. I take a deep breath, inhaling the scent of evergreen needles and hot cider. Hot cider. I race to the table, abandoning my stately demeanour, and ladle hot cider into a cup. Ah, warmth…
I wave to the group at the fireside, and glide over to them (it’s easy to glide when no one can see your feet). “Hi!” I say cheerily. “Happy holidays, eh? It’s a gorgeous night, but it’s so cold out there! Thank the muses for a fire and hot cider!”

  14. I glide into the room in a long red gown with gold sleeves, shrugging off my ridiculously warm overcoat onto the coat hanger and lifting my skirt to make sure my bright blue rain boots are doing all right. They are, as are my purple-and-white striped socks that go all the way up to my knees. I lower the formal blue skirt down back over them, returning my image to the smooth, styled gown.
My hair falls down my back in a million tight brown braids, interbound with red, green and white threads for a Christmassy feel and bound with clips that have snowflakes dangling off of them. The only thing breaking my formal image is the enormous blue hat shaped like a menorah, about the size of my head, that sits comfortably on my head. It’s a tradition, after all.
I head over to the fire and sit down cross-legged, smiling at the people around me. “Happy holidays! What’s up?”

  15. Jingle Bell Rock finishes. I put my horn back into the nothingness it came from, and try to think of a song to sing.

  16. Noticing that everyone is wearing red, I snap my fingers and my outfit changes instantaneously. I am now wearing a rich emerald green dress with a diamond clasp in the middle where the bodice is gathered. My heels are made of the same green velvet as the big bow in my masses of curls.
I smile at Enceladus as he and his French Horn get onstage. It’s a great sound. We finish out the song, and I figure if we play some music of all holidays eventually, then Christmas music can be okay too. So, I whisper to him what I want to play next and he nods happily. We start to play and sing.

    ” Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad,
Feliz Navidad, Prospero año y felicidad…
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas, I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas,
I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart!”

  21. I swing back and forth to the tunes gracefully. ((In real life, I just would like to say that I am not graceful. So this is a first for me.)) A group has gathered and everyone is mingling amongst themselves cheerfully, but not many people are here yet still.

  26. I clap merrily to the music, a song that even though I’ve never heard, I rather enjoy. I watch as Alice and LBK stand to dance, and I join in. Not much of a soloist, I tentatively swirl the crimson skirts of my dress around my knees, laughing at myself.

  27. I take a big gulp of warm air as I come in from the frosty outdoors. I shake the snow out of my hair, then take off my leather coat and put it neatly in the coat pile across the hall from the ballroom door. I’m wearing a kilt (I’m wearing this to my real holiday celebrations this year) with a swingy red silk jacket with yellow trim. On my feet, wannabes with layered socks. I stride into the party room and grin at the music and happy atmosphere. I take a quick trip over to the christmas tree to drop off my present, a medium sized rectangular box wrapped in brown paper with potato-printed blue feathers and wrapped with a big blue ribbon. With that task completed, my gaze wanders over to the dance floor. There are a lot of couples, but one girl twirls around by herself in a starry ballgown. I dance over to LBK.

  28. I walk into the room, looking around. There are a bunch of people here, but I’m sure they’ll be some more.

After the song ends, I take out my clarinet and join the band.

  30. I come in, slightly late. Just very slightly. I leave my satiny red cape with white lining in the first room, and walk on. I’m wearing a red dress, plain and chiefly unadorned. It’s fairly tight, flaring at the end. The sleeves follow the same design. The neckline is tight as well, with an embroidered collar, the squarish sort that almost forms a cape, or something. With one corner hanging down in the front and back, and the other two on the sides. Make any sense?
I look around, and notice the bulk of the people over near the stage, some dancing and some merely talking. I swing by the food table and take a cup of hot chocolate to warm me up. It’s delicious- just warm enough, and not so hot as to burn me. Perfection in a cup.
((Yes, I know everybody’s wearing red, but I can clearly picture my dress in my head, almost as if I’ve seen a picture of it somewhere.))

  31. The song ends to a flurry of clapping. I notice that people have begun to dance. “Let’s give them something to dance to!” I say happily to the others onstage. I then whisper the next song. “Let’s go for a Sleigh Ride on three. One, two…”

We tap our feet and play the opening chords, then I sing,
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling,
    Ring ting tingling too
    Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you
    Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling “yoo hoo”,
    Come on, it’s lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you!…”

((I’m sending in a picture of my dress right now!))

  32. I skip and twirl through the door, wearing, for a bit of contrast, a brown and gold horizontally striped dress. The hem reaches just above my knees and the sleeves are bell shaped, reaching to my elbows. My hair is down as usual, barely below my shoulders. I am wearing chocolate-brown leggings and boots.

I leave my red scarf at the entrance and run singing “Sleigh Ride” into the room.
Grabbing a cup of hot chocolate and downing it quickly, I dance through the room, spinning people at random and finally plopping myself in a chair in front of the fire.

    “Winter- hooray!”

  33. Hello there

Just dropping in to grab some cookies before I go back to working on college applications

  34. I come in and the party is already in full swing, heading off to dance. I’m wearing a light green dress, about knee length and my hair is pinned up in a clip ((yes, and it will stay that way for once in my life)). I love these parties…

  35. “Come join in!” I say happily to Tessaract and Silver Leopard, and they hop onstage. I love this song. The party looks great, with many colored skirts twirling and multitudes of boys popping out of nowhere to dance with everyone. Everyone is also avoiding the mistletoe at all costs. I really am enjoying myself.

    Giddyap, giddyap, giddyap, let’s go!
    Let’s look at the show,
We’re riding in a wonderland of snow,
Giddyap giddyap giddyap, it’s grand just holding your hand,
We’re riding along with the song of a wintery fairyland!”

  36. I sing along from my place near the stage:
“Our cheeks are nice and rosy

Let’s take this road before us and sing a chorus or two…”

  37. I stand up from the plump armchair and walk over to a corner of the room where a tall, green tree stands, hung with bright-coloured baubles. 39. The song ends to another little flurry of clapping. I set my guitar down backstage and quickly run back out. I figure I can give my fingers a break and just sing for a while. I cue to orchestra members, and as Tesseract sweetly plays the violin and Silver Leopard blows out some lovely notes one clarinet, I clutch the mike stand and begin to sing.

    Do you remember me,
    I sat upon your knee,
    I wrote to you
    With childhood fantasies,

Well, I’m all grown up now
    And still need help somehow
    I’m not a child,
But my heart still can dream…

    No more lives torn apart,
    That wars would never start
And time would heal the heart!
And everyone would have a friend
    And right would always win,
And love would never end, oh,
This is my grown up Christmas list…”

    Pie 0

  40. I start to sing along with the new song the band is playing, grinning. After a while I begin to tire of dancing with myself, so I proceed to the food table and pour myself a mug of hot chocolate. Then, I grab a can of whipped cream and empty practically all of its contents onto the hot chocolate. I take a long sip. Just then, Mia, my wung, stumbles to my side. I crouch to pet her. “Oh, Mia, you’re all covered in snow,” I murmur, laughing. I dust it off of her and continue to drink my cocoa.

  41. (Nice outfit, Daisy Chain!)
(LBK- I’m no expert on the subject, but I think a wung can be anything you want it to be. They generally are around the size of a dog)
I stop dancing for a bit to grab a big macaroon and a cup of hot apple cider from the refreshments corner. I stand by the nicely crackling fire and admire the painted tiles on the mantle. They feature the nine old muses- a nice coincedance, I think. Suddenly I’m impelled to dash over to a tall window in a secluded corner of the hall, which I do. I look outside and see a sky as cloudless as Mount Olympus. I make a mental note to sneak up to the roof to stargaze in another few hours.

  43. I stride in, murmuring apologies for being late. Something indistinct about high school applications.
I’m wearing a grey dress and blue dress coat. My mother thinks I look as though I’ve escaped the russian revolution on the titantic with my dark green newspaper boy style cap and muliticolored scarf. But what can I say. It’s cold outside and it will snow soon, even though it hasn’t yet.
I go and get some hot chocolate to warm up.
I then wander in the direction of the food, pausing to chat with people I run into on the way and smileing at those who are actually dancing.
Meanwhile I look for someone to talk to.

  46. I step through the doorway, trying not to draw attention to my lateness. After placing my false fur cloak and hat in the cabinet, I make my way into the main room and help myself to some cider and sit down on the hearth. My dress looks like it has come out of some ancient wardrobe of costumes, beautiful but forgotten found in an attic, and it was. I returned my empty mug to a tray designated to that purpose and made my way onto the dancefloor. I don’t know the song being played but I like it, and begin to dance.

    Pie 0

  47. I choose not to dance, instead curling up in a corner near the fire and hugging my knees, watching the dancers and singers. It’s a beautiful winter. The snow is whipping down outside, and the wind is audible even through these thick walls. The best part of snowy weather, I decide happily, is not being out in it.
As if in response to my thought, I smell chocolate, and realize that someone has made hot cocoa with marshmallows and whipped cream on top. I glide over to the food table and take a mug, which thaws my hands and is decorated with the Muse Academy shield. It is the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever tasted (of course. This is MA, after all).
My menorah hat slides backwards, nearly falling into the pudding, and I rescue it quickly. I love this time of year.

I am wearing a flowing green dress and black high-heeled boots, although my dresss reaches down to my ankles it is hard to see them. Outside the snow is beautiful, and I feel like I am in a dream as I realize there are some remarkably handsome boys there. The music is wonderful, it really feels like Christmas now. My first year here is coming to an end, but it won’t be the last.

  51. Thankfully, I managed to find a shape-changer to change me into my character Sidra. Just as a human.
Look, normally, I’m 11, and 4’5. I haven’t come to the ball like that yet, and likely never will.
So my dress is of a crimson silk, with thin straps, and a thin waist. It reaches down to my knees, and is only marked by the emblem of a white nine-tailed fox on the back. I also wear black jazz shoes.
My hair is pulled back in a high ponytail, with a pair of black chopsticks in it for decoration and beauty purposes.

“Sooo…” I mutter to myself, surveying the area, “anyone I know?”

55- Could we have one boring ball, p*ese? Without shape-shifting and pet wungs and a dizzying rate of posts? Not meant personally.))

I take a break and set down next to the fire with some cookies.

  53. The tree I’m standing next to suddenly becomes boring, and I stride over to the food table. I look around at all the wonderful food, and I spot some steaming mugs of hot chocolate. “Well, brown is my favorite colour.” I say, and pick up a mug. The steam curls around me, almost as if it was alive, and I take a sip. “That’s wonderful! Better than my Mother’s!” I exclaim. I notice the few out the window; a winter wonderland. Snow was falling steadily now.

  54. I spot Hatter from the show “Alice”, who seems to have arrived with quite a lot of other fictional characters, and put down my hot chocolate and glide over to him. “Really coming down out there, isn’t it?” I ask, grinning. “I’m Cat’s Eye.”
“I’m Hatter,” he says. “Pleased to meet you.”
    “Would you like to dance?”
    “It would be a pleasure.”
((This is a ridiculously self-indulgent practice of dancing with our favorite fictional characters, who in real… fictional… life are mostly either in love with somebody else or evil. But hey, it’s fun.))

  61. The song ends, and I motion to the band. “How about the Christmas Canon?” There is a nodding, so the song begins. Strings first, then guitar and winds. The music flows through the hall as we strum, bow and blow into our instruments, and make the Canon in D something very holiday spirit-ed.

At last, I sing solo first. Then the choir joins in, a chorus of many voices.

    “This night, we pray,
    Our lives will show,
    The dream he had
    Each child still knows,
We are waiting, we have not forgotten…

It is all piping hot and delicious, and I curl up with some hot cider and a plate of fresh off the pan latkes with sour cream, hot turkey, and warm Christmas cookies.

  64. I walk in, aware that I am very late and hoping no one will notice. I take off my white coat and place it in the nearest cupboard. Underneath I am wearing a silvery, pale blue dress, hemmed with pure silver thread. My hair is done up, with a large snowflake pinned to the bun. I twirl around a little bit to the music, but after a few seconds I spot the table with endless amounts of food heaped onto it. I walk over and grab a meat pie from the plate. Immediately another one appears, taking its place. The meat pie is warm and delicious. I finish it in three bites and head over to the stage with my violin, managing to join in at the last part of the Christmas Canon.

  65. For a moment, I do not reconize the song that the choir is singing, but when I do, I only know the chorus of it. I walk over to the banquet table and take some peppermint bark and a mug of hot chocolate and curl up in a squishy armchair to watch the dancers whirl around and around and…around…an…((I fell asleep! Oh, the indignity of it all!))

  66. I sweep into the ballroom, wearing a long white dress with fuzzy lining around the neckline, sleves, and hem. My silver earrings are actually tiny bells, which tinkle softly when I move my head.

((GAPAs, can we have a Gift Tree like last year? That was fun.))

    Pie 0

    1. “Sure!” I dance with Enceladus, my earrings jingling.

When the dance is over, I wander over to the nearest GAPA and ask, “Should we drop our presents off at the Planning Committee area? Or is there a separate tree?”

  67. Before I take a break, I want to sing one more song. It might not be a holiday song, but I’ve been practicing it for quite a while.
“This is for Funny Girl,” I say, and signal to the band. they enthusiastically play the opening notes of Don’t Rain On My Parade by Barbara Streisand.

“Don’t tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter
Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
Don’t tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it’s me and not you
Who told you you’re allowed to rain on my parade
I’ll march my band out, I’ll beat my drum
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn’t fake it, hat, sir
    I guess I didn’t make it
But whether I’m the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life’s complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.
Get ready for me love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer
Don’t bring around the cloud to rain on my parade!”

  69. The tree is ready for presents. Everyone wanders over to deposit theirs.

I just want to add that Umbramew and I were having a discussion on the Planning thread and we decided that limiting the number of presents allowed to be given and taken to three. Sound good? Anyone?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  70. Well, I guess since the first present has been posted, my suggestions will change.

How about if you take as many presents as you post? (Umbramew’s idea)

  71. (( 76 – Hey, that was on Glee!! ))
“Hi, everyone!” I walk in the diamond-plated doors wearing a long, red, velvet dress and black high heels. I carry glass ornaments, which I throw up in the air. They gracefully fly through the air and hang themselves on the tree. If there is one.

  73. I sneak in as quietly as I can, trying not to let my parents know I’m not actually typing my English paper that’s sorta kinda due tomorrow….
“Anyone care to dance?” I ask.

  74. I begin to tire of sitting upon the tree, for it greatly scratches my bum. I go off to corner a scared-looking boy (who just HAPPENS to be in a corner) and dance with him. At first, he is frightened, but as the dance continues, His movements get less fearful, and we sway and sway…

  75. Popping into existence for only a moment, as I’m not truly able to fully enter the party just yet, I complain loudly, ‘What is it with you people complaining about boys? Dance with a girl! It’s loads more fun.’

And then – poof! – I’m gone again.

“Let’s change yup the music,” i say, bringing around an old favorite and hoping someone will help echo me.

“I really can’t stay, I’ve got to go ‘way, this evening has been so very nice,
My mother will be starting to worry, and father will be pacing the floor
    So really I’d better scurry,
Well, maybe just a half a drink more…”

    1. There’s a loud pop that sends a slight shockwave of displaced air swirling around the room as I appear next to Keiffer and Tesseract, ruffling hair and swishing dresses. (And in case you were wondering, the air was what ruffled your hair and swished your dresses, not me. Though that can certainly be arranged if you wish. Anyway, sorry about the funky grammar and such.)

“There we are,” I say, smoothing down my golden tuxedo, and noting its goldness with pleasure. “I’ve always wanted one of these!” I exclaim. Looking up, I continue. “Anyway, finally, someone with some sense. I commend you on it, Keiffer.”

And with that, I turn away to walk off. …Before whirling back and thoughtfully tucking a stray hair behind Tesseract’s ear that had been displaced by my entrance. I pat Keiffer on the shoulder and grin, then leave them to dance.

      1. “I wouldn’t say ‘good sense.’ because I have none of that. But I do think it’s definitely more fun to dance with girls. I know someone that slipped on a piece of paper, got a rug burn the size of a penny, and stood like a statue for the rest of the night. It was quite funny.” I say. “If Pseudonym were here, *glares at Pseudonym, wherever she is* I bet she’d be laughing.”

  79. I dance across the room with Carlisle and leave my present under the tree. We sit on a conveniently placed sofa and talk. I look around the room. The beautiful tree, my fellow MuseBloggers, really hot guys, though not as handsome as Carlisle, the snow falling outside, the laden food tables.. . Of course, if I drool at those for too long, I will find myself trying some of everything, and I don’t want to look like a pig. “Those are the prettiest decorations I’ve ever seen,” I say.

  81. I smile at Tessera Rose and thank her for the dance. Then I wander around, singing to the music and watching the gift tree which is beginning to become very full with gifts of all sizes.

“When are we allowed to start taking our own presents?” I ask impatiently to no one in particular.

  82. I glide over to the coat rack and pick up my coat, checking out the weather outside. It’s really coming down! “Does anyone want to go out and carol?” I ask hopefully. “Spread the joy, you know? If there’s anyone to spread it to– I think all of MB showed up!”

  83. I immediatly rush over to the tables piled high with food. Cider, gingerbread men, and ham – all that was missing were latkes!
I hear someone ask to carol, and I reply in a sing-song voice, “Absolutely!” I never give up the chance to sing. I grab my jacket and I head out to follow, my dress swish-swishing all the way.

Oh nuit, oh laisses encore à la terre
Le calme enchantement de ton mystère
L’ombre qui l’escorte est si douce
Est-il une beauté aussi belle que le rêve
Est-il de vérité plus douce que l’espérance

“Then can we do Jingle Bells?” asks LBK.
“Definitely,” I reply. “Old favorite, right?”

  96. My dance with the scared boy ends, and I walk over to the food table once again. I eat some food. ((Yes, very descriptive, aren’t I?))

I then remember that I have forgotten Nelby. I put my jacket back on and go outside, across the street, and into my dorm room. Nelby is sitting in his little cranny, looking very annoyed at me. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Nelby!” I exclaim, give him some chocolate, and then bring him to the party room.

  98. We finish singing/humming Carol of the Bells and start Jingle Bells;

    Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
    O’er the fields we go
    Laughing all the way

    Bells on bobtail ring
