Guilty Pleasures

Things that we’re embarrassed about liking, or embarrassed to admit that we like, but like anyway.

(We don’t know where this thread came from. It just seemed like a good idea.)

  6. Chocolate, even in large quantities, doesn’t strike me as being embarrassing. To be a guilty pleasure, I think it would have to some sort of bad chocolate that you wouldn’t want to be seen eating — like Three Musketeers bars (which probably aren’t available in Austria). Twilight probably also falls into the “extremely guilty pleasure” category for some people who claim not to like it.

For me, Whoppers malted milk balls are a guilty pleasure. They’re bland, waxy, fattening, and almost devoid of redeeming content, but for some reason I can eat them by the box.

If I had been nine years old when Pokémon came out, I suspect I would have developed a guilty crush on Jessie, the Team Rocket girl.

But immense quantities of chocolate ARE fattening. And they’re also sort of bad-skin-causing, but I still shove my mouth with it…

I’m sure mine will be eventually, but for now she’s six years younger than me (she’s 7) and socially insecure, which is hard for her because she used to be socially secure (unlike me…) Anyway, I love her very much, she’s just a bit of a pain. It was worse when she was a cute little baby who couldn’t talk or play at all and everyone ignored me and went around adoring her, but hey, she was REALLY cute therefore hard to get mad at….

My current guilty pleasure is probably family chanel. I know the shows are garbage: there is no emotional involvement what soever, but still I find myself sitting infront of the television with my knitting watching Phineas and Ferb. (other guilty pleasure TV shows: iCarly, Drake and Josh).

Guilty pleasure….Um, soap operas, I guess. They’re worthless trash, utterly predictable, and yet….when I’m home alone during the day, I am wont to switch on the TV and switch back and forth between the soaps on ABC and the kids shows on PBS. Mind numbing entertainment during which I can work on cross stitch, or the like. If we had cable, I’d probably numb my mind on Disney. *shudder*

They steal an alien rock brought back by the Apollo missions to give a random guy superpowers so he can kill Captain America!

And they’re funded by an oil company who send private armies of super-soldiers between dimensions to steal resources!

*Figuring out what I'm going to wear each day by co-ordinating colors, textures, patterns, etc.
*Making up stories to explain the behaviour of people in public spaces. (Like if someone has a strange look on their face I'll imagine why by making up a story sometimes.)
*Shoes. Patterned, coloured, wild, comfortable, whatever. SHOES.

Hmm, using irregular punctuation when writing dialogue. I do not feel that it makes sense to include punctuation in the quotation marks when it has nothing to do with the direct quote. So I put it outside of the quotation mark, an example; What do you mean by “interesting”? as opposed to What do you mean by “interesting?” If the person being asked had used “interesting” not in a question.
    If that makes any sense.

41.1~ Looks old? What’s “old” about having enough space to make it easy to read? I don’t always double-space, I’m currently trying to catch myself off guard to see what I really do…. I guess I double space when I’m starting a new thought, that doesn’t deserve it’s own paragraph. Hmm. Strange.

I’m late, but Taylor Swift songs are addicting in an annoying way for me. Like, for some reason, (I don’t even like country that much!) I still have some of her songs on my iPod, and when they come up when I’m on shuffle, I always think, “Oh, I’ll change the song”, and before you know it, the song’s over. (So maybe my iPod is telling me something…)

Okay, I’ll admit it. I like listening to pop music. I listen to Kiss 108 ( Local pop station ) all the time. ( GAPAs it’s for all Massachusetts, not just where I live, so I hope that’s not too much information? )

In my defense, I detest some songs, like the bedrock song and “In My Head.” Okay? Also “Rude Boy”.

ANIMORPHS! Yay! Another addict! My friend says they are just typically fantasy characters replaced by aliens (Andalites are Elves, for instance), and he’s kind of right, but I still love the series!

No kidding. Why is it that people see the covers, say “That’s dumb”, and walk away without trying them? It’s an amazingly complex and deep story if you actually read them.

‘Twas quite interesting reading about Tobias and Rachel. I’ve read the entire main series, but only most of the Chronicles and a few Megamorphs. It always struck me that Marco was the only character who never had a girlfriend (or boyfriend). Even Ax dated another Andalite in one book.

Lurking in the library of the astronomy building looking at crumbling old almanacs written in Russian phonetics. (In Russian, but using the Roman alphabet) I usually can’t make heads or tails of what’s being said, but the pictures are cool, and it’s funny reading the write-ups of space shuttle (“ASV Kosmoplan”) flights and seeing how the names come out differently.

Sort of like Translation Party, I guess. Sometimes I have to say the names out loud to actually get who they’re talking about. (Ride = Raida, Fisher = Fisere, Musgrave = Masgreivs.)

Fashion blogs. I’ve never cared that much about fashion, and I don’t use the tips I read there at all, but somehow I’ve begun to find them interesting. This is so different form how I used to be a few years ago, when I just ignored it. Now I look at the pictures, and actually go through them and say, “Oh, that one looks good…and that looks like a garbage bag. Seriously, high fashion?” And I have a good laugh at the expense of people who actually care about this type of thing.

Glee. It’s plots are over-the-top, it’s unrealistic, it has vaguely offensive/stereotypical character portrayals, and liking their songs more than most of the originals makes me feel I have no taste in music… But Sue Sylvester and Kurt are awesome.

    Overproduced pop.

I appreciate all kinds of music, and I make it clear to people that the only things I don’t really ever listen to are country, modern heavy metal (see: Avenged Sevenfold, Meshuggah, Brad Paisley) and pop, like Rihanna and Katy Perry.

But I do, on occasion, listen to Katy Perry and Rihanna, and I hate it because I know it is specifically designed to make lots of money by being formulated to be pleasing to my brain. But I don’t really mind.

AND NOBODY ELSE KNOWS MY SECRET SO SHHHHH
