For Part 2 of this month’s random thread, the inimitable Lady Bunniful has choreographed an interpretive dance in which Muse‘s Muses celebrate the powerful symmetries at the core of life itself.
(Users’ Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)

First post? Wow, I love the picture GAPAs. I like how you manage to incorporate the Muses into every picture.
I was wondering when we would have part two on here…
Marvelous picture, Lady B. Beautiful as always. Muchos gracias for all the work you do for Muse Blog. *is feeling especially thankful right now* And while we’re at it, thanks to ALL the GAPAs, not just Lady B, for their work for MB. *wonders why I am feeling so thankful*
I just want to say this; Yay! I finally got a first post!!! Horray!!! *does happy dance*

soccer starr-
MaybeIt’s Christmas spirit!!!!!!!Ooh, nice picture… It’s intended to be a double helix, I presume. My school has double helix tile pattern on the floor of the science hallway.
Oooh, brilliant picture. So, which of the Muses are supposed to be the purines and which the pyrimidines? *realizes with surprise that she can actually remember which are the purines in real DNA* Adenine and guanine are the purines, which makes……cytosine and, oh, drat, what does T stand for again? Thymine? Anyways, they’re the pyrimidines. I hope. Or else I don’t remember anything at all from genetics…..Oh, wait, I didn’t even learn that from genetics class, I learned that in bio prior. Guess I still haven’t learned anything from genetics. *sigh* Oh, well.
Ah, anyway, yes. I like the picture.
But the fact that Koko is the backbone of the DNA……Is a tad bit disturbing.
Lovely Lady B. I’m quite fond of this one.
Wow!
Amazing!
Lady B, do you draw these, or computer animate them?? Awesome.
By the way, everyone…I’m REALLY REALLY sorry about the random factoid thread!!! If I don’t put down the fact right as I discover it, I forget it…so please, please, someone post on the thread so I can end my shameful exile of posting five times in a row!!
*pulls hair out as display of sorriness*
Most of my MB graphics start out with drawing of some sort, whether I do it on paper first or draw directly on the computer. From that point, I do all sorts of strange things. This one involved lots of copy and paste, then I added the shading “by hand” (i.e., digital pen).
Digital pen? Do you have a tablet?
Couldn’t live without it.
My school required us to get tablets. I usually find that the disadvantages of having a slow Window computer outweigh the advantages of the tablet pen. I know that a lot of people use it for taking notes on their computer, but given that I type twice as quickly as I write, that’s not too useful for me. Of course, it is very useful when I have to use Photoshop for history.
That’s surprising. A lot of tablets I tried prior to 2005 were indeed slow and clunky, but the Wacom one I have is fast — and I’m still using Windows XP. Maybe the problem was with the software. I find it very handy for taking notes in meetings, because it’s not only fast for jotting stuff down, but quiet. It also has the advantage that I can sketch diagrams or make little annotations that would not be possible with typing alone.
I also like the fact it’s completely ambidextrous, and I don’t have to worry about whether a button is left or right.. I usually hold the pen while I’m typing, so it’s much less disruptive to switch from keyboard to tablet than it is from keyboard to mouse.
I have an Hp tablet running Windows XP. Its battery refuses to charge, and whenever I start it up, it takes about 10 minutes to figure out that Wi fi exists. It’s also slow and crashes easily. (Having Microsoft Expression Web and Photoshop open at the same time is the kiss of death.)
Ugh. That sounds awful, like the ones back in the ’90s. I wouldn’t judge all tablets by it, though. I have a small, inexpensive Wacom (Graphire, not Bamboo). It’s never given me a spot of trouble. No lag time whatsoever. The tablet plugs into the USB port; the computer is its sole power source. The pen is wireless. Not a battery in sight.
Yes, it’s pretty painful. To be fair, given that we’re high school students, the school probably recommended the cheapest tablets available.
They probably got some special deal or a donation. Sounds like the digital equivalent to student-grade paints, which I have ranted about elsewhere. What better way to turn people off something than to give them shoddy versions?
Possibly. I guess we did order the computers through the school, given that they’re all engraved with our school logo.
Ooooh. Helices…
Wow. Cool.
Does that mean “five”?
Helices = plural of helix.
Beautiful picture! I love the colors.
I have been cleaning my room. More like waging war on my desk and shoebin, really. It looks a little bit better, which is encouraging. I realized that I really, seriously needed to clean it up a bit. *sigh* I hate cleaning.
Lovely. You are so very talented, Lady B. Well, nothing much else to say, so….bye. ((…For now! mwahahahaha!
))
Haven’t seen you around in a while.
Aaaah! Aaaah! *loves picture*
has anyone else ever extracted the DNA from banannas? I did once in 7th grade. It was fun because there were extra bannanas that we got to eat. I have tried constructing helicies ouc several different building kits but they never really worked too well.
I extracted DNA from cherries in 7th grade……
Words fail me to describe how flamablamablous that picture is. Whoa.
Anyway, does anyone here live in Utah? Because I’ve never ‘heard’ anyone say they do, but, still…
16- No, but in 9th grade we extracted our own DNA from cheek swabs.
Oh! Oh! Me too! It looked like white strands, right? That’s really freaky.
Yup, it was all milky and kind of in a ring. It looked a little like the Sombrero Galaxy a little, actually.
The picture is teh pwn. Wait, it’s december already? How time flies… The english presentation turned out okay, but I need to do another one if I want to pass…
Uhm, it’s sorta been December for fifteen days….
It has?
19~ Not only is it December, it’s halfway throught December. Extremely frightening, I know.
But at least it’s almost Christmas!!!
And it’s already Hanukkah.
Yes. I can’t wait ’till Christmas!!!!!!!!! *Christmas songs*
“Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the feast of Stephen! When the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even! Softly shone the moon that night, though the frost was cruel! When a poor man came in sight gathering winter fuel!”
Picture=wow.
21~ “Hither page and stand by me,
if thou knowst it telling, yonder peasant who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
underneath the mountain. Right against the forest fence,
by St. Agnes fountain.”
“Bring me meat and bring me wine,
bring me pine logs hither,
thou and I shall see him dine,
when we bear them thither.”
Page and monarch forth they went,
forth they went together.
Through the rude wind’s wild lament
and the bitter weather.
“Sire the night is darker now,
and the wind blows strongly.
Fails my heart, I know not how
I can go no longer!”
“Mark my footsteps good my page,
tread thou in them boldly.
Thou shalt find the winter’s wind
freeze thy bones less coldly.”
In his masters steps he trod,
where the snow lay dinted,
Heat was in the very sod,
which the saint had printed.
Therefore Christian men be sure,
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now shall bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.
Hm, the lyrics I know are slightly different.
I can’t believe I just have six school days until Holiday Vacation!
Wonderful job on the picture!
I just got my speech for the speech team, and it is really funny. Hurrah! The only slightly negative part about doing speech is that I have to be at school before 7:00 in the morning on every Saturday in February and March. Oh well, it’ll make a good excuse if there are any school dances that are on Friday (I don’t want to stay up too late, now!) so I don’t have to go to them. I think one or two dances a year are quite enough for me.
Hmm. In two days, I will be a paleo, if my calculations are correct. *feels old* No longer neo, practically paleo.
Goldendoodle–I like your avatar!
My blogiversary is in six days, and I still feel new here. It seems like everyone has been here for years, even though there are plenty of people who came after me.
Like me!
I’ve been a paleo since they were dubbed “paleo” and I still feel like I’m younger than everyone here. Somehow, everyone how came at the same time as I did left or became fairly reclusive.
Except me! I know what you mean though.
I’m glad you two stayed.
*mushes away*
*is very glad too*
*hugs*
Note to self: do not post at night when overly dramatic.
I’ve grown to the point where I don’t have a sense of my age here anymore. I’m vaguely aware that I’ve been on here for much longer than most people, but it’s all morphed into a singularity. I have become one with the Woven Beyond…
I am at two with the woven beyond.
Even though I’ve been on here longer than you I still feel like you’ve been around for much longer than I have. And yes, that is a compliment.
Why thank you. *becomes a fossil*
Okay, so I doubt most people will have an answer to this question, but…..
I’m trying to figure out what this one computer game I used to play was called. I think it may have been a demo on our first computer, but it might have been the full game. Regardless, it would’ve been on a floppy disc. Like my sister’s Oregon Trail game was….But that’s another story. (Why were all our best games on floppys?)
So, the game: Basically, it was really, well, basic. There were rows of black lines across a white screen, with the occasional hole in the lines, which moved across the screen. You were a little monster character (I can’t remember what your character looked like, precisely) and your goal was to jump up through the lines and get to the top of the screen, completing the level. However, everytime you would jump a new hole would open up, and if you fell through a hole on the ground level, you died. Also, as you progressed up the levels, whacky monster creatures would start to appear that would move along the lines.
So, my question: Does anybody remember this game, and if so, do you remember what it was called? And if there’s anywhere I can find it and download it?
It’s madly addictive, and I never did manage to beat my mom’s high score (she had some madly high number score on it…..). And I would just hook up our old Mac which it was on when I’m home over break, but I”m pretty sure it’s completely bit the dust, based on my lack of luck the last time I tried to hook it up. But considering we got it when I was about 3–it’s so old that it’s not internet compatible, and only accepts floppy discs, as it predates CDs–I’m surprised it continued to function as long as did (I was at least 12 before we unhooked it, at which point it still worked great).
So, yeah, does anyone know the name of the game?
I don’t, no. I could ask my dad, though. He might know…
We might even have it, who knows. We have at least two functional computers that sound about like you describe.
My dad’s got a thing for old computers. We’re getting better, though; we actually no longer have any ancient computers in daily usage.
That almost sounds like Donkey Kong.
I’m pretty sure that’s not what it is, but…..*looks it up* Yeah, not that, but sorta similar, I guess.
Well, one more final done and over with, two more still to go: Spanish tonight, genetics tomorrow morning. Er, well, afternoon technically, I s’pose, as it’s at one or 1:30, I believe….But that counts as morning. It’s about when I’ve been eating “breakfast” the last week, afterall.
So, organic I think actually went a lot better than feared. Quite a few of the questions were recycled word for word from past exams, so if I got any of those wrong, I’ll be pissed. I’m guesstimating around a 78% or so, and dear god if that is “a lot better than feared”, that is actually rather sad…..So, if I got that, that’s enough to get a B in the course, I think I only needed a 58 for a B. Of course, I’m holding out for an A, but…..I doubt it. I needed around 86% for a B, and I’m not sure I did t hat much better than guesstimated. *sigh* And she said grades owuldn’t be up until Sunday afternoon. I’ll have been home for nearly two full days by then! Well, Friday evening, all of Saturday, and half of Sunday….Because Sunday afternoon/evening on central time is Sunday morning/afternoon Alaska time…..Hey, maybe they’ll be up by the time I get up at noon Sunday! That’d be 3 central. And yes, I intend to sleep that late.
Anyway, I’ve got to get an 84ish I think on Spanish tonight for an A, which a week ago I would’ve said was easy, but I only got an 83 on the last test, compared to the grades of 90-95 on the previous ones. *sigh*
Ah, well, I’ll get what I get. Even if I only get Bs in psych, organic, and spanish, I’ll still have approximately a 3.8 GPA, which although not near as nice as my current 4.0, isn’t too dreadful, either.
And nobody cares about me rambling about my grades……So I’ll shut up now and go study some for Spanish. We were “promised” (read: threatened) that there was going to be several questions on culture. And I don’t remember any of the culture type stuff. I barely managed to come up with the names of two Cuban cities on the last test.
Well, a B won’t kill you. You’ll be fine. Of course, I shouldn’t really be saying this, given that I got the “an A- is not acceptable in a science class” lecture from my parents…
I am done for the semester! Just a packing, cleaning, and a math contest at 4.
No, a B (or even 3) won’t kill me. There’s just something nice about being able to say I got straight As. Y’know, the evil glares everyone who didn’t get straight As (read: most people) give you.
Yeah. It’s fun. Especially here where nobody gets straight A’s.
Tomorrow is Wright Brothers Day!
North Carolina, first in flight.
Noone wants to stay on the ground in North Carolina.
Tesseract is quoting our license plates. The slogan always makes me think “first to get out of Dodge” so to speak.
Yup. Kitty Hawk, 1903.
Hey Tesseract, I’ll try not to be such a bother, but could you, you know, post on the Holiday party thread before me? I don’t really know how to post about dancing and so… yeah. Sorry. I’m being pushy aren’t I? Sorry. *trails off*
Whoops, my bad. I always forget about the party threads. I’ll go post now.
I just got a zero on a homework assignment!!
( From Ms. R[snip], Keiffer. ) I am afraid this will affect my grade point average…I WANT AN A IN ELA!!! *spews tears* ( I didn’t do it. I forgot. *ashamed* )
Especially since the people I’m working with in my group project affect my grade, and I’m afraid they won’t finish the darn book! Ughs.
I just know it’s something really obvious, but what does ELA stand for?
English Language Arts.
Okay, that was obvious. *headdesk*
GAPAs, shouldn’t the name of the teacher be snipped?
Bubblebabe, one zero isn’t that bad. I’ve gotten so many zeroes that I’m getting an E in math. I know I’m good at math, the bad grade just shows that I have a short attention span when it comes to homework. (Or I have my priorities straight. Or both.) Really, one zero is fine.
Do you gets Fs at your school or is E the worst possible grade like at my school?
Ok. I’ve had enough. twilight (said with as much derision as humanly possible). Why the *bleep* does it have to follow me very *bleep*ing where I go? You’ve got the twilight books being sold everywhere, prominently displayed, all the propaganda for the bloody movies. Hot Topic has become a twilight shrine–not that I ever went there much, except they used to occasionally have HP stuff. Calendars, posters, displays in my campus bookstore–all full of twitrash. You can’t walk two feet without being confronted by the garbage. My “Yahoo alerts” that are set to send me links to articles that mention HP/JKR? Let’s just say more often than not anymore, I get links to twicrap articles that just happen to mention HP. Usually making nside comments about, see? Not so hot anymore are you, HP. twicrap is selling out more than you. Hahaha. At which point you seriously question the sanity of your fellow humans. Then it followed me to genetics earlier this semester, with my moron teacher’s idiotic comic, where two vampires walk into a geneticists office and he says, “I’m sorry, bella, but your baby is going to be a vampire.”
And now Spanish. In the first. bloody. question. there was a conversation in which we had to fill in the correct form of verbs in the blanks. Halfway through it turned to talk of going to a movie. And what movie do you suppose they decided they were going to go see? That’s right. new moon. That was a distracter. Especially as it called it a really good movie, or some such (it was in spanish, I don’t know half of what was going on……). So throughout the rest of the test my mind kept returning to that and cussing out the twicrap franchise, wondering why the *bleep* it had to folllow me everywhere. I came so close to scribbling a note on the test next to the answers for that section about how freakin’ crappy the entire twifranchise is, and demanding an explanation for why the *bleep* they had to include it in the test. Seriously. I even started to daydream it all out.
Somebody. Please. Make. It. Go. Away. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree completely. twilgight( intentonally left uncapitalized) needs to find a very deep dark lonely hole full of medical waste and die there, but not before it fills in the hole over top of it. Today in science, I had to run away from a couple of nearly screaming fangirls fighting over somebody’s copy of the one with the boring cover and no plot. Wait, never mind that description, seeing as they all fit it. Yarrrrr…..
The premise of twilight was interesting at first, but the writing was horrible- did you notice how she throws conversational English in the same sentence with very flowery, romantic prose? Also, the movies were laughably terrible.
Genetics? But… but… vampires can never have children!
Tell that to Edward Cullen.
I figured there were all sorts of things vampires can’t do. You know, like…work for the telephone company, or volunteer for the Red Cross, or…have little vampires.
Actually, comparing Edward and Angel is just hilarious. When Edward watches Bella while she sleeps, it’s “cute”. When (season 2 Buffy spoiler) Angel watches Buffy while she sleeps, it’s because he lost his soul and became a creep.
Speaking of Edward watching Bella sleep (which isn’t “cute” in the slightest, as I know you know.), I was on the phone to my dad earlier, and somehow we got onto the subject of twilight. I think it was because I asked him if he wanted me to call when I got on the bus tomorrow (well, today, now) morning at 4:30 am, which would be 1:30 back home. He said no, but that I could call him when I got to Seattle if I wanted to, but I didn’t have to, that he would assume if he didn’t hear from me it meant I made my plane. I made some comment about “What if some random creep abducts me?” and he said that after 2 minute with me, they’d be begging to give me back, because they wouldn’t be able to take my going on about HP any longer than that. I pointed out that just a couple hours prior I’d had an hour long conversation with him and my sis and HP never came up once, and that I don’t always talk about HP. Neglected to point out that now I’d be more likely to drive them mad with DW/TW or even Spike quotes, but…..Anyway, somehow HP got me onto twilight (don’t ask, I really don’t know).
So, anyway, dad’s not read the books or seen the movies. But I was saying something about, “So, Dad, just imagine for a minute if you were a girl and you learned that some random dude from school had been sneaking into your bedroom and watching you sleep. Would you think this was oh so sweet and adorable and ‘Aw, you’ve been watching me sleep?’ Or would you be creeped the hell out [that bit right there is definitely word for word…..lol] that some psycho stalker creep dude was watching you sleep?”
Dad: “I’d pull my gun out from under my pillow and blast him away.” (or something along those lines. Except he doesn’t ahve a gun under his pillow, so not sure how he’d manage that.
)
Me: “Exactly! You wouldn’t think it was totally awesome, you’d find it terrifying and creepy!”
Anyway, yeah, not quite sure where the convo went from there, but……I thought it was hilarious.
Speaking of Buffy–The Spike bits in Season 4 so far are to die for. Oh my god every word that comes out of his mouth.
He is so quotable.
Eh, twilight has kind of faded out since last year at my school, but many sympathy pies for you. I guess some people talked about new moon, but other than that there hasn’t been much mention of it thank god.
But HP was never really popular when I was old enough to appreciate it beyond the occasional mention now. I guess some people have read it but it’s just not big anymore – then again, you do know that HP got the full package just as much if not more than twilight. And I’m not trying to contradict you (‘Cuz I STRONGLY dislike twilight too) but for non-HP lovers *gasp* it was probably even more annoying.
But still. *sympathy pies*
Meh. At least it’s never really caught on in my circle of acquaintances. I think the only time a large group of my friends went to a twilight movie, they all came home laughing about it. I didn’t go. I went to a bookstore, since the movie was PG-13 for I-knew-not-what. I’m okay with violence, but I prefer to stay away from violence, innuendo, etc.
Anyway, we don’t go around talking about twilight. We’re much more likely to get into a discussion about HP, or Eragon, or mind-eating zombies.
Though a couple of my friends did start freaking out over Taylor Lautner’s abs one week.
You know everyone’s addicted to twilight when you, who care nothing for actors, know how to spell the name of one of the main-ish actors in twilight.
Most of my friends are obsessed with it. I know someone who made their dad read it. They do, however, like Carlisle and Jacob better than Edward.
31- I thought the books weren’t too bad, but I agree, they’re overrated. Besides, asking me if a book is good is asking for trouble; I have not yet read a book that I did not enjoy while reading, though recently I’ve started being able to be critical afterwards.
On a related topic, we’re starting a new Renaissance. Our plan is fairly similar to MH. Basically, we’re tired of the fact that nearly all the music, art, movies, books, etc., coming out right now is vulgar, biased, and racist. We’re reforming the world.
Which is easier said then done. Our current plan is to go with the ripple affect until we get to be famous, and then continuing from there.
This entire thing is really a lot like the Kokonspiracy, but for one thing, you can tell your friends about it without getting so many blank stares/weird looks. I assume that your friends are the type that might stare blankly if you told them about the Kokonspiracy. I might be wrong; in that case, forgive me.
Anyway, I just thought I’d inform you.
The blank stares and weird looks suit our plans perfectly, but it’s understandable that a new literary and cultural movement would want to be more broadly based. How do you plan to proceed? Through manifestos, essays, and reviews?
Most of my friends wouldn’t give me blank stares and weird looks if I told them about the Kokonspiracy, because all my friends are right here on MB and the Chatterbox. *is lonely* *wishes she had an offline friend that hasn’t forgotten her*
Well, my friends gave me blank stares and weird looks except for ilh, who posted about five times and didn’t really get it. Maybe MB was too nerdy for her?
I think I got a perfect on both my finals. My only questions that I didn’t know were:
Is <> male or female?
True or False-
Sunning yourself on a tropical beach would be more fun than taking this Geometry final.
I might have gotten a part on the proofs wrong because I used a dodgy theorem about a line going through a triangle parallel to the base forming similar triangles which might not have existed (the theorem, not the triangles).
I may not be able to get an A in Geometry, since I think I got less than an average of 87 in both quarters, and our grade is 40-40-20.
…
Don’t take it personally, I’m sure you explained it well. I may be in Pre-Algebra, but I have no idea what you said. After all, I’m only 12.
Pre-Algrebra? Which grade are you in? I kind of need to get a sense of what American schools are doing so I won’t be behind, although I have done pre-algebra.
Depending upon your ability, seven and eighth are usually Pre-Algebra, ninth Algebra I, tenth Geometry, eleventh Algebra II, and twelfth Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.
Though almost all of the people in my school took/take Geometry first year then followed the path upwards, arriving at AP Calculus fourth year.
Note: If you’re going to take AP Statistics, generally that’s fourth year or third if you’re precocious.
Note take two: I don’t know much about the IMP programs, if you have those.
-A
Actually, in my school district, most people take Pre-Algebra in sixth or seventh grade, Algebra I in seventh or eighth, Geometry in eighth or ninth, Algebra II in 9/10, Precalculus in 10/11, Calculus in 11/12, and AP Stat in 12th. I’d say most people are on the Pre-Algebra in 7th grade track. There are some that are a level behind, too, but the majority have Pre-Algebra in 7th.
The upper levels are variable, too: I’m in precal this year, as are my friends, but a few of them are taking AP Stat too.
Do you do the same thing in math for the whole year? And what do you actually do in Pre-Algebra. We’ve done Algebra and Geometry for about two years. We start Trigonometry next year (along with more geometry and algebra and graphs etc.), and Calculus… no idea. Year 10 math sounds pretty weird, but I’m not sure if we do it then or later.
We do indeed do the same thing in math for the whole year, although each math course covers a variety of topics. Trigonometry, for example, is spread out in the curriculums of Algebra, Geometry, and Precalculus.
6th grade. I was going to be in only advanced math (7th grade), but my mom thought that would be too easy, so she got me into Pre-Algebra (8th grade). I hope that doesn’t sound too much like bragging, and I’m very sorry if it does.
I think that’s right, actually. Since the line would be parallel to the base, the base angles would be the same angle, and of course the angle at the top would still be the same. The degrees of the angles remain, and all you’re really changing is the length of the sides. It sounds right, but I don’t know what your teacher might think.
If all the angles are the same, the triangles are indeed similar.
Ohhh, now I get it. Sorta.
That is indeed a theorem. Know it. Use it. Love it.
I miss Geometry…
-A
No. Geometry was evil incarnate.
Geometry was amazing! I loved it so much…

Only a smidge over a week until Christmas. Which means…….Only a smidge over a week until the Doctor Who Christmas Special is aired! Which means, given the location of Christmas in proximity to the weekend, about a week and a half until I can watch ’em! *is happy*
One more final to go. Genetics. In 43 minutes. And then I’ll be done, and I can finish all my packing so that I’ll be ready to hop on the bus at 4:30 tomorrow morning. Suffice to say, I doubt I’ll be going to be tonight.
How’d it go?
Meh. I got around 157/238 or so on it. A- in the course, though, which isn’t too bad.
eeee! Doctor Who Christmas special!
I know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *squee* And then the second part on the 1st, I think.
my math teacher would love this, but im not telling
leaving on saturday to ny, 6 hour flight, fun i know.
my roomate is taking to train to zurich tomorrow, at 12 ill be so lonely.
I’ll buy sweets in coop.
Six hour flight? Eh, that’s not that bad at all. I’m flying home (AK) tomorrow from college (midwest), and it’ll be about 8 1/2 hours total airtime. Don’t even wanna think about when you tack on the 2 hour bus trip to get to the airport, the layovers, and then the car ride once I get back to AK. I’d go without about 12 hours total travel time at that point. *sigh*
I’ve been on a plane for around 13 hours!!! Not. Fun.
13? I think my longest flight was over that. Alaska to France. I think it was around 16-19, I forget exactly…..But I agree–not fun.
6 hours? That’s nothing compared to 10 hours.
Try flying to China, THAT’S what I’d call a long flight…
How long? *is curious*
Hmm…it was awhile ago, and I have a bad memory *blushes*. So this is just a general guess, but maybe 10-12 hours or so?
Does it really matter who’s been on the longest flight?
Whoever has been on the longest flight is the best.
So…..I’m close to being the best?
Well, after me.
Once when my siblings and I were engaged in an extended bickering session over who was suffering most over something or other, my mom piped up with the plaintive cry, “who wants to see my sore toe?” After that whenever we lapsed into a battle of oneupsmanship, someone only had to say “who wants to see my sore toe?” and everyone would break up.
18 hours. To Australia, against the jetstream.
Japan! Thirteen hours.
7 hours flight to France. I’m lucky.
Going home from Israel wasn’t so much fun. 11 hours from Tel Aviv to New York. I missed my connection, and had to wait 2 or 3 hours in the airport. Then, I had a 2-hour flight home. Oh, and did I mention that I was already sleep deprived and can’t sleep on planes?
Okay, I’ve survived today, on to tomorrow…. 11 hours of school, with two exams (one 2-hour German, the other is “just” the first aid test in bio, only that it’s at the end of the day and I only have a 20 min lunch break).
But otherwise, life is kinda nice.
Right now I’ve got three musical snow globes playing three different songs. It’s weird.
Crashing the city tomorrow.
Great fun.
*evil look in eyes*
————————–
I’ve been trying to teach myself how to beatbox on the flaute!!!! Its actually more complex than just blowing shorter and in different rhythms…there are things you have to do with your fingers and all.
Band concert tonight!! And no homework, only one more day til the holiday break!!
Good luck! What pieces are you playing?
*sigh* Well, the prof posted the key to the organic chem final…..Looking at the answers, it looks like I did worse than I thought, missing about 2-3 more MC than I’d guesstimated. Leaving me 4-6 MC questions short of the grade I’d need for an A in the course, depending upon my grade on the free response.
So, yeah, that’s looking like a B. Which is alright, I s’pose. I’m just rather fond of As….
And genetics didn’t go too well, I don’t think, so who knows. I’ve got the nasty feeling I’m going to get almost all Bs this semester. Which really shouldn’t bother me as much as it does. I mean, Bs aren’t bad, but……*sigh*
Lots of Twilight haters…
*goes off to read Twilight*
*explodes Sudo*
That’s awfully judgmental, you know.
True. I should have said *prepares to explode Sudo*, and I would have if you enjoy it.
I am listening to terrible pop music on my iPod that is streaming the pop music station because the country station is having a fundraiser and has too many “DONATE NOW!” type ads. One second… OK, I’m good now. I figured that since I’m listening to my iPod, I could just switch the song. Smart, I know.
I should probably answer an insane amount of science questions from my textbook, because I know he’ll assign all of them over the weekend, and I just don’t like doing homework on the weekends. Or science in general. Maybe it’s just the hour of the day.
I’m actually am going to leave now. Bye.
I taught myself to use Gimp today, (so proud!) or at least, I taught myself to use gimp enough to make myself a gravatar. I really, really hope it shows up soon, because I’m super proud of it. I feel like I can do anything on Gimp now, even though what I did was about as basic as it gets.
Thank you. I’ve fallen in love with it.
I’m going to go see what it is now.
I. Am. Con. Fused. Why are you laughing, Ducky?
Scarific, SR! Mr. Joe….. *shudder*
My Dad’s letting me download Gimp after the holiday week! *can’t wait*
41/42/42.1–
Today was very strange. In Health Class, we watched the second half of a video that was made to teach us about injuries and what to do about them, but the acting was so bad that all we did was laugh at it. The freakiest part was when the little boy holds up a pistol and says to his friend, “Hey, wanna see something cool? Look, it’s my daddy’s gun. Yeah, it’s real, but it’s not loaded. See? Pow, pow! Pow! Pow!” *gunshot* *second kid falls to floor in a really demented way* *first kid has no reaction* …Yep, it was odd, all right.
Ohmigosh, Christmas is coming up so soon…I need to finish making all of my presents. My mom and I are hosting a “cookie-exchange” party (where all of my friends and their moms bake cookies and come over to exchange them), and I’m making jewelry for all of the attendants. But my friend Katie is such a tomboy and I have no idea what to get her (because she’d totally freak out if I got her jewelry). It’s a bit of a dilemma. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, in the spring, my entire grade is going for four days to this camp in Plymouth (that may be snipped, oh well) and we’re sleeping there in cabins. Everyone always says it’s really fun, but it’s almost all science-oriented, and I really don’t like the type of science we learn in school. I am also wary of the fact that we’re going to be bunked with perfect strangers. I’m not sure if I even want to go.
Make her a beaded bookmark or Christmas ornament.
So I’m doing this really great presentation about the relationship between the space program and the Walt Disney Company, and I’m considering calling it “The Mouse and the Meatball”, but that sounds kind of weird. (The “meatball” is the nickname for the blue circular NASA logo)
I think that sounds lright. *tries to not crack up at “meatball”*
Piggy’s achievements so far tonight:
-Made snake stop when it hits the side or itself
-Started, worked on, and finished physics lab
-Consumed caffeine
-Ate pretzels
-Faked a computer malfunction so as to not have to work on Spanish presentation
-Looked at other unfinished-but-due-tomorrow computer assignments and groaned
I just got an email from the res hall people, informing me that my roomie moved out (which I already knew, I was here when she did her whole room checkout rigamarole).
I just thought it was funny, the way they phrased the email:
Hello,
Just wanted to inform you that **** ***** has checked out of room ****. Please keep the space open and clean because you may be receiving a new roommate at any time.
Thank you,
******
Oh, goodie. Just the present I wanted. I mean, really, the way they phrase it, it’s like I’m being given a gift, not having another person move into my room.
Awesome! *high five*
Well, I leave in 30 minutes to catch the bus to go to the airport and head home for break…..So, I rather imagine I won’t be on much at all between now and when school starts back up again around January 20.
So I hope you all have a wonderful break and for those of you not done with school, good luck with all your finals and other such horrible things.
Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*is tired* *has decided that not going to bed may have been a mistake, as she started to get tired around an hour ago……*
*sigh* No band and no Luna at the same time! How shall I ever survive?
I’m quite sure I don’t know.
I’ll be on occasionally (like right now), but not often…..So, yeah, as you may have gathered, I’m home, we just got back from going out to dinner.
From the time I left school to the time I got home, I was travelling a total of 15 hours. Only about 8 of those were actual flight time, but……Still. I slept through all 8 hours of the airplane trips.
The 20th?
When do the rest of you go back? Four weeks’ holiday in winter?
Upside of being a college student. Although, even for college, it is comparatively long, I think. My sis normally only gets 2 at her college. And in middle/high school (or even grade school) I imagine most people only get 2 weeks. I think that’s what the public schools up here get….
Yep. We get 6 or 7 (7 this year) weeks in summer and the other holidays are 2 weeks long.
In summer (at college) I get 3 months. Last half of May, all of June and July, and then most of August (school starts around the 20th or so).
However, once I start vet school, my breaks will shorten significantly. I think Christmas will drop to only 2, and summer drops to only 6 weeks after my first year of vet school. *sigh* that’s going to suck…..
Yup. We get 2 here.
I’m on break from the 16th of December to the 10th or so of January. I am also a college student. We get a week off in the Fall and Spring and Thanksgiving weekend off. We don’t really get three day weekends, though. We get summers from early May to late August.
Bye Luna!
4 weeks of winter break? Nice. I have 3 weeks and then a week of intersession, during which I’ll be in Paris without my computer.
I’m leaving for the Bay Area on Sunday!!!! WHEEEEEEEE!!! Plock! Plock! Plock! Plocketty-plock! Plock!
Plock?
Plock?
Plock?????? What’s a plock???

Tee hee… Sounds like SPOCK!
Splock?
The sound made by re-engineered dodos in the Thursday Next books. I like it. Plock!
Okay, the red-cross first-aid course is finally over, and I’m now certified *flourishes card*
Hah, no more stressy 11-hour fridays ever again! *victory dance*
Okay, I changed my avatar, so it reflects the Christmas spirit. But in a “basement cat” sort of way.

SFTDP I like you new avatar, Ducky.
I also changed my avatar, but in a completely basement cat-free way.
I have nothing to do today, so I decided to draw. I found an awesome list of things to draw and broke out a Ticonderoga. Much crazy sketching has ensued. I’m so happy that I’m drawing because I haven’t had much inspiration, and I’m not taking art this year, so I need a creative outlet. (Wow I just sounded really artsy… o.o) My sketches/doodles consist of a chubby baby, three dinos with bows on their heads, a cup o’ joe, a bow, chocolate, an ugly fishy, a bad hate art of Twilight, and awesome surreal headphones. Oh, and also, an intentionally ugly lizard/monster/dino thing. Oh so much fun!
So I wrote a debut for my friend’s superhero character and I DIDN’T screw it up so badly he yelled at me. In fact, he thought it was awesome!
So I was browsing [snip … ], (home of the Mary Sue Litmus Test) and I came across a page on tips on writing. One of the pages, in naming perfectly good authors that don’t use ‘purple prose’, they listed Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchet, and J.K. Rowling.
So is this person already a MuseBlogger, or our next recruit?
And the blog says ‘Life, the universe, and everything from the perspective of one desk.’ O_o This is freaking me out just slightly.
The blog on the site, that is.
My dad’s cousin’s kid died.
I never knew him that well, but then I think about the fact that it was E’s brother (she was about my age) and then it kind of brings it into perspective.
It was because of a drug overdose, which makes the whole “say no to drugs” campaign from health class seem a lot more meaningful. Almost every one of those movies said something to the extent of “over #### teens per year die of drug overdose” and it had always been just a number to me, but now that I knew one of them, it seems a lot bigger…
I…um…Gee, I don’t want to say, “I’m sorry,” because that’ll probably make it worse, but I don’t want to sound like a teacher.
My heart goes out to that poor family. ♥

Hi!!!!! *is back home* *realizes that it’s almost midnight central time and most of y’all probably are asleep* It’s only ten to nine, here……
So, yeah, I’m back home, all my flights were on time and went well, and we had a nice yummy dinner out to eat. Food=yum.
Oh, and I got my grade back on Organic chem. 81 percent in the course, for a high (yes, high by her scale) B. So……My first non-A in college, probably the first of many. I’m not particularly happy with it, but, well, I can’t get A’s forever, I suppose. As much as I’d like to.
IT’S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HORRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /snowing happiness
Nice avatar, by way, Luna. At first, I thought it looked like a rose, but then I looked closer and saw it was Kokopelli with a pink ( :?) swirl around en.
Thanks.
The pink swirl is actually a pretty pink rock. It was an item for sale at the gift store at one of the caves in the state where I go to college……I saw it and had to take a picture. I think it may have been a candle holder, but I”m not positive.
Really? Cool! Did you use Photoshop or something to get Kokopelli on there?
I think that Kokopelli was on the rock originally, so she took a picture.
Correct. Kokopelli was already on the rock, thus the need to take the pic.
Hello, Museblog. Does anybody remember me? I use to post on this site a lot, a few years back. I haven’t visited this place in so long, yet the idea of formally saying sort-of farewell to it has been haunting me.
I wanted to cry when I finally found it. I couldn’t remember the URL for this site, you see. And then when I saw it, the layout had changed so much.
Avatars?! When had those appeared? Looking at the threads, I don’t really recognize most of the names , and probably wouldn’t even if they were all around back when I was still a regular poster.
…I wonder if I’d still be able to get all the in-jokes, now. I’m afraid I wouldn’t.
The last time I came here was a couple of years ago. I remember seeing a birthday announcement for myself, with the heading, “we don’t see her around much anymore, but sometimes she still makes tremors in the Force.”
I know why I left. Well, I didn’t leave as much as I faded into the background, becoming part of the Who’s Here Wall and nowhere else. At some point I just didn’t feel the need to cehck Museblog obsessively and tell everyone the random bits of my life. Museblog was only the second website I ever really frequented, but the list of them soon grew. I started high school, and wasn’t home schooled anymore. I gained real-life friends, and this and school took up more of my time. As I checked the site less frequently, I fell behind on current news, which made me check it even less often…It’s a circle of doom.
Why say something now? I don’t know.It might ahve soemthing to do with the way I was telling my AP Comparative Govt teacher about the Implicit Association Tests–the reason I joined Museblog in the first place. Besides, it’s winter break, and I have the time to do this now, so I’d better get it done just in case.
But I have to thank Museblog for something. All the fun times I had here, the posts I made, the intelligent debates…Teh randomness/flamablambousness.
I no longer get Muse anymore. If someone else in my family got a subscription I probably would read it, but…I hardly even read the magazine I do still have a subscription to. Muse is part of my past. I can’t see myself spending a lot of time here in the future, no matter how much I want to. The demands of senior year, and all that.
I’ve changed since I first came here. Gained an additional three years of life. I hope I’m more mature. (Yeah. Right) But some of the things that I used to be crazy about then, I’m not crazy about now. I used to have a deep and abiding love of any and all fantasy books. (Hence the name)
But now, I rarely read them. Rarely read anything in print, for that matter. I seem to get everything online. Muser-wonderfulness, however, does not seem to be one of these things, sadly.
I still remember this place fondly, however. It’s really been the only site I ever really commented on with any degree of regularity. Every place else, I just lurk. So, winding this up… I don’t really know how to say good bye. But I can try. Maybe the HPBs will stop stalking me, then.
So long, and thanks for all the pies.
FantasyFan?!?! (3/11/06–12/19/09)
…Wow. That was unexpectedly long and rambling. And I think the nostalgia meter just broke.
Isn’t it a bit late for that? Saying goodbye, I mean. I don’t think there are that many people left from your time, but it’d sure be nice if you came back. I don’t remember you, probably since I’m not that “old” myself (I’ve been around a year. I’m still waiting for the mature thing to happen). The whole avatar and format change came after the blog got hacked in april, and that´s why the musefanpage link now redirects here. As for the people… well, we’ve all become a decadent lot of savages and all the innocent oldbies up, destroying the blog in process
. Those who are left are hiding on the paleophyte (=oldbie) threads, for which you need an account (just ask the GAPAs).
Farewell, I guess, but stop by anytime.
You posted before my time, but that was a beautiful goodbye. Good luck with the rest of your life, and MuseBlog will miss you!
I, for one, remember you, FantasyFan. It’s always marvelous to see a fellow oldtimer visit MB. May all your pies fly straight and true.
FantasyFan?!?! (59): Hello! I remember you. I don’t remember how long ago it was, but we were always trying to get people to read that World Religions book so we could keep the discussion thread alive. I don’t think we were very successful. But I hope you have a wonderful year, life, etc.! And do know, I don’t think it’s possible to ever be free from Hot Pink Bunnies. (Trust me. I’ve tried. They keep coming back.)
Hi, FantasyFan! I’m afraid I don’t remember you very well–I didn’t spend much time on the ‘blog back then, but it’s nice to “see” you again, anyway…..However, you might remember me as Michelle W. the very HP obsessed ‘blogger.
Huh. Some things don’t change much.
I remember the Implicit Association Tests–that was what brought me to the ‘blog, as well. Good times, good times.
I only came here a few months ago, but I often look at the really old threads and I have seen your posts. I am homeschooled, like you once were, and maybe someday I too will gain real-life friends.
Farewell, FantasyFan.
You won’t know who I am, but welcome back/goodbye. That was a beautiful farewell, and don’t worry about the bun- *disappears under scuffling horde of you-know-whats, but still manages to pie FantasyFan?!?!*

Hello! If you come back and check again, remember me? I was e~a before.
Hello, FantasyFan! It’s always good to “see” you.
One thing you should know about GAPAs is that we never say “goodbye.” Wherever en may go, whatever en may do, and however long en might stay away, a veteran MuseBlogger will always have a hearty welcome here and a warm place by the Hare & Hedgepig’s fireplace. So instead I’ll just say good luck, and may good and interesting things always follow and precede your footsteps. Fi aman illah.
59 – Obviously you haven’t ever “seen”/”heard” of me before, as I have only been blogging for around 6 months, (Nor do I recognize your name) but glad to get to see you pop back in to our world of utter craziness!
I found your post very interesting to read, especially when you talked about how MB gave you so many fun times, because that’s exactly the way I feel too.
I dunno, it’s a weird feeling to describe, but sometimes MB just feels like home. And I always feel guilty thinking that, because it’s a little odd to think of a single website as home, but that’s the way it is. It’s probably part of the fact that none of us can judge each other by our looks and only our personalities, but I feel like I can relate to y’all more than I can relate to people in my “real” life. (Not that MB ain’t real, of course…) And of course that has to lead me to the idea that if none of us were ever judged by our looks and not our personalities…the world would be such a better place.
/end sentimental rant/
On a more random note, it has been snowing here since last night and still is today! I may/may not go outside (Most likely my younger sis will drag me out there, even though I’m not a huge fan) for some classic sledding and snowball fights.
sftdp
Meant to read:
“If only we were not judged by our looks and only our personalities”.
Just six months?
Ha ha, I was thinking the same thing, but compared to the 4 years since Fantasy Fan has been on MB…
Actually, I think there was something like this in a Muse magazine before. It was about someone whose only friends were online, and he wrote something like this; “Online, people don’t view us through a veil of stereotypes. They judge us by what we say, not by how we look or what we do.” That is an excellent thing, in my opinion. /sentimental-ness
Awww, soccer starr, what’s not to like about snow?
That was in fact a muserology written by an MBer about MB.
SFTDP
It was Cat’s Meow.
I knew it!
Really?? Meow wrote that?
I thought Syllabub wrote it.
*ponders*
That was what made me come here. I read that issue, and I remembered there was a place called the MuseBlog, so I dug through my pile of Muses to find the URL…
On a different note, am I the only person who’s noticed that if you write a Muserology and then say on MB it was you someone else can find out what your real name is, even though you wouldn’t be allowed to directly reveal it here? That just sounds a bit strange to me, but knowing how
paranoidcareful the GAPAs are about other things, they must to be okay with it.It’s not that I don’t like it, I’m just not a huge fan of cold weather…
It’s supposed to snow at 12, and it’s twelve now, sp I guess it’ll start soon. I habe a lot of stuff to do today: homework, wrapping, cleani-WOAH why is my fish tank GREEN? Okay… That’s strange. I guess I’ll change the water… DARN YOU algae!
56- Oh, Marfwarrior, I am so very very sorry. My friend suffered a similar loss recently. There isn’t much else to say besides that I am so sorry.
62-Yes, I believe that was in the issue with the lightning bolt on the cover, and I also believe it was written by Cat’s Eye, a MuseBlogger. Am I correct?
I am currently typing up a collection of poems to give to my mom for Christmas, and now I see why some people hate Microsoft Word so much. Grr… evil columns.
(Warning/ Spoiler Warning: This next bit will only make sense if you have read “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.) On a totally different note, my class is reading “The Giver,” and yesterday, instead of doing actual work, my teacher surprised us by leading a simulation of the Ceremony of Twelve. It was so fun! She made a little speech about each of us and then gave us our “Assignments.” My Assignment was to be a member of the Council of Elders (the teacher said I could even be called a “sage”). My best friend was selected to be the next Receiver. And, in case you were wondering, my teacher kindly decided not to Assign any of us to be a Birthmother.
But really, I’m not too pleased with having to reread that book again. It’s definitely one of my least favourites, and it’s really boring when you already know what’s going to happen. **Note to self: Don’t read required reading books several years before you are actually required to read them.
Ooh! Ooh! We just read The Giver at school, but we didn’t do anything as fun as that…
(Spoiler warning if you haven’t read the Giver) One big topic of discussion when we were reading was about the Birthfathers, although I’m not exactly sure why we always ended up talking about who those would be although everyone guessed that the Giver was Jonas’ father. And then there was the whole “Why did Jonas stop taking the pills” discussion, but that’s a different story…
You don’t want to know… But yeah, overall I thought the book was interesting, but not something I would have chosen on my own or something I would want to read again. The ending is horrible.
Oh yeah! My sis is a huge reader, and she’s always reading the required books several years before they’re assigned, despite my efforts to prevent this. (Which are usually unsuccessful…) I agree, it does take the fun out of reading them at school, but I don’t usually like the required reading they give us.
Yes, that was also a big discussion… but my teacher squashed it by saying that they were probably so advanced that they could, um, do that… artificially, I guess? (I don’t quite remember.) Yep, Chapter Five was certainly interesting.
Hey y’all! We’re at a speech meeting and no one but the speech team is here, and the middle school bugs Goldendoodle.
Does anyone know a British slang term for clothing?
*Marfwarrior commandeers keyboard*
hahaha I had cup of coffee and a doughnut even though I don’t really like either so I’m a little loopy at the moment.
*spins in the commons reallllyyy faaasssst*
hey fantasyfan! i remember you good luck with all your future endeavors. senior year is pretty stressful….
I’m on break, FINALLY. this is awesome. unfortunately I have just ONE more college essay to do and it happens to be one that matters a little more than the rest (or feels that way) so now I’m going kind of crazy.
actually it’s exciting. and strange. hey i just described my life right now. hurhurhur
Silver lining – This is only tangentially related, but oftentimes with books I remember only specific images if I haven’t read them recently. The thing I remember most from The Giver (other than the revelation at the end) is the scene where the boy is watching two other people throw something around, I think it was an apple or a frisbee or something, and he suddenly sees the red in it. Whenever anyone mentions The Giver I think of that. Hm.
). It’s a great book if I remember correctly, though I do agree I probably wouldn’t read it again.
I’m glad you read it in school (or rather your class was required to, since most of us do read books far ahead of schedule
*yawn* Luna wishes she were still asleep, for another hour or so……Unfortunately, Dad had to go to the post office and the store, and I guess the PO closes at noon on Saturdays….Or at least it closes at noon today.
Normally he wouldn’t feel the need to wake me up before he left, but he had made a fire in the fire place because apparently earlier this morning the power went out for a little bit and he didn’t know how long it would be out…..And seeing as it’s only 0 degrees outside (fahrenheit), and power out means heat out, it would’ve gotten cold quickly had the power been out very long.
and so dad didn’t want to leave me sound asleep in bed with a fire going……And so he came in and woke me up. *sniffle* 10:30 is too early to get up.
Of course, that’s 1:30 central time, and I haven’t slept that late at school in months or longer, so……I guess I”m already adjusted to the time change, huh?
Anyway, I should probably go take a shower and get dressed and maybe start unpacking some stuff before dad gets back…….
MUAHAHA! It’s winter break!!!
*ahem* Just spreading some out-of-school cheer.
*grumble grumble* After the weekend, I still have 3 more days of school!!!! *grumble grumble*
Me too! *is mad* And to think that here, we celebrate the 24th most of all, making the 23rd the day before Christmas and we still have school that day!
Same for us! Woo hoo! Sorry to hear that LBK – most of the public/Catholic schools around here have to go back to school for Tuesday or Wednesday.
WINTER BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SNOW! Lots of it.
Snow snow snow! *does happy dance*
*joins Kiwi*
*explodes all of you*
*joins kiwi and agrrrfishi* *dodges grenades from LBK*
Grrrrr… *explodes SL with dog-seeking missile*
G’night, MB. My mother is telling me to get off the computer right now… *tear*
Well, at least I’m sure I’ll be on tomorrow too… *wonders if the snow will stick til tomorrow*
69 – I agree with you!
Yay for winter breaks!
55- I think they’re probably a Muser Unaware.
It snowed here today! Lots of snow! I went to the park and threw snowballs with my brothers. And it’s still coming down!
I went ice skating today for the first time in my life. It was amazing! And I only fell on my butt four times.
Oooh yes, I love ice skating. I’ve gone ever since I was (fairly) little, and I’m not any better than I was the first time I tried it, but it’s still very fun.
That sounds fun! I still had never gone before yesterday, and I’m 15. Now I want to go again!
I just stepped on a thumbtack. It didn’t actually hurt that bad, and my foot doesn’t seem to be bleeding.
*winces* *has a phobia of sharp objects*
It looks like it’s stopped snowing, which is probably a good thing, seeing as it’s up over my knees already!
What fun, what fun….
I had to actually clear some snow off the hill to be able to sled! Rather pathetic, actually. But it was great fun.
Oh my god I just saw Avatar (in 3d) and it was so awesome
I swear if I could I would buy a 3d theater and just watch the scenes of Pandora and the landscape over and over. Also I’d watch anythign to do with space but man this movie was goergous. Also dad says if I ever find a banshee (or however they’re spelled/called) I can keep it
But has anyone else seen it? I realy enjoyed it, although the Navi (Na’vi? Something else?) seemed a bit *too* human to me in some respects. But still so so cool
Oh, man, LUCKY!!!!!!!! D’you think Avatar would be okay for a 12-year-old with complete knowledge of some swear words and, other, stuff…?
That movie was awesome. But the plot is a bit hard to explain. It took me a full fifteen minutes to tell it to my brother.
It also kind of reminded me of the Matrix, how the humans sleep while they control their avatars. Kind of like how they got plugged into the Matrix, right?
I thought the plot was trite but the effects/visuals were really impressive. I saw it in 3D, but it wasn’t IMAX so I’m not sure if it made much of a difference.
SNOW!
SNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOW!
I looked out the window and it’s snowing!!!
*happydance*
Stupid, stupid sledding.
Okay, so i was sledding, right? And my dumb younger brother had just gone before me. He was still at the bottom of the track, so I yelled at him to get off, but he didn’t move. So my dad told me to go down, so I did. My brother managed to get out of the way, but I slammed into his sled and I got a nosebleed and I was crying and there was blood everywhere and, well, you get the picture.

Ouch. That hurts. I’m going to go sledding, I think. When I finish my bucket-loads of homework, that is. XP
I know. I was bleeding all over the snow. It looked like a murder or something. *is exaggerating*
Ouch! I tried to sled, but like yesterday it was just too powdery to go anywhere.
Evidently goodbyes are extremely hard to do, as the HPB infestation only got worse. And then I had a dream about H2G2. This was so obviously a sign that I had to go and post something.
Thanks everyone for the fond wishes.
FantasyFan?!?! (3/11/06–12/19/09) (12/20/09– ), after being resurrected through the power of pie.
77- Na’vi.
Navi, on the other hand, was one of my characters at the Halloween Ball, who was named for the star in Cassiopeia, which was named by an astronaut who spelled his middle name backwards. (True story!)
I was just skimming through some of the older-ish threads on here, looking at the month when I first came here (May 2009) and I am currently so embarrassed I can barely write this post. Was I really that bad?!
I guess I did a fairly decent job settling in and getting the hang of things, but for cake’s sake I was weird. And that wasn’t even THAT long ago…
I’ve heard other people say that they’ve felt the same way about their earlier posts, but I feel like even up until fairly recently (And right now too for all I know) I’ve been pretty embarrassing. Oh, let’s just say all of my posts are embarrassing!
*is embarrassed*
Ditto. When Ducky♩♪♫♬â™â™®â™¯ mentioned that en had read my (very very old) posts I nearly died of embarrassment right there. Then I went and actually looked at some of those old posts… It was even worse. I could not believe that my punctuation had ever been that bad, or that I had let myself type such things….Maybe that’s why I came back, to make a new impression that was less–well, less whatever I was when I was 13-14.
Heh. You actually saw some of my newbie posts on the Pie War. I was captain_cynomys back then.
Good times, that Pie War. Good times.
Course, I feel obligated to say that now there are even better times, with an eye out towards the future, plus the added benefit of spellcheck and a spiffy new blog look.
I noticed that the ?|? that appeared after every name has gone now. I feel like the ?!?! at the end of my name is that much more extraneous now, because the only reason I added them on to the end of my name was to make it fit in with all the other ?|?s on the site, not realizing that they were due to a software glitch.
On the other hand, I’m rather attached to them now, so I’m not going to change them. And I feel like they symbolize something, possibly my state of mind.
They look to me like somebody’s shouting ‘FantasyFan’, at the top of their lungs, incredulously. Probable about to tackle/hug you, and excited since you were absent.
Oh, your posts weren’t that bad.
ss- Same here. It’s amazing how horrible and nonsensical my posts were just six months ago.
Ha ha, well I wasn’t intentionally looking through to “find my old, embarrassing posts” I was just skimming through older threads like I do sometimes and I saw “soccer starr” and…oh well. No use complainin’ bout it now, anyhow.
I was
prettyreally weird, too.I was worse. Or maybe I still am.
QUICK! Who knows where to find the drop shadow and bevel and emboss in photoshop CS2?!?!?!? First one to answer gets brownie points.
Thanks in adavance for the help. (hopefully…)
(((WAIT!!! GAPA’S DON’T POST IT! I FOUND IT!!!)))
82- Everyone is more extroverted and awkward when they first join a website. Myself included.
81.1- It’s true. His middle name was Ivan, and he was marking up the navigational star charts for the mission, and he wrote “Navi” as the name of one of the stars as a joke. It stuck.
Testing…testing….
I hope this new avatar thing works out (not to be confused with the movie)
Let’s just ignore the fact that traditionally, Eastern dragons didn’t breathe fire, because right now I just want to rejoice that my half-hour on Paint copying, pasting, and yes, painting has actually created something viewable.
It didn’t work! OK, I’m pretty sure I did everything the Gravatar website asked me to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?
And now it did. Please, GAPAs, ignore these last two humble, unworthy of being seen posts.
86, 86.1, 86.1.1 – Don’t worry, gravatar usually takes a little while for the avatar to show up. Sometimes a new avatar will even show up on my end weeks after it’s been done. I had the exact same reaction you did when I first got a gravatar, so don’t sweat it.
Me too. I had, like, five posts, just saying stuff like, “Did it work?”
Piggy’s musics of the day: Fiddler on the Roof. Thank you, Youtube.
Traditionnnn… tradition! … Tradition!
That was our marching band show this year!
Marching band + musical theatre = confusion for Piggy
Try searching “Fiddler on the Roof marching band” on Youtube.
It would work better than a marching jazz band. (Obscure Buffy reference. Of course, after hearing that, I really want to move to Sunnydale.)
Ooh, Fiddler on the Roof. I love that musical.
For some reason, Les Miz has been going through my head a lot lately.
Aha. Fiddler on the Roof. Very nice.
My family likes trying to do the “If I were a rich man” dance that Tevye does, where he shakes his arms, you know? We fail at it miserably and laugh at each other.
No school tomorrow! Snow day!
You still have school? Unlucky. We got out on Friday until The 4th of January 2010.
I have no ideas about what I want for Christmas.
Same for us!
79~ Ow. I know how sledding crashes are though, I’ve had quite a few too. (My jaw clicks when I open and close it now. It didn’t do that before falling headfirst off the toboggan last year. Ooooops. Actually, that might explain other things too, but…..)
Hello! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I recently discovered how amazing Doctor Who is.
I wasn’t able to find the original black and white ones, so I’ve been watching the new 2005 series.
EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE
Well, if you were watching Dr Who in your absence, obviously you are forgiven for not posting in a while.
But it is amazing, isn’t it? I’ve been meaning to track down some of the old ones myself, although despite the internet here at home being high speed, it’s rather slow when it comes to buffering long videos. *sigh* Oh, well…..It’ll just make trying to watch the Christmas special a bit of a pain, unless I buffer them for an hour or so. Which I suppose I can do…..
The first doctor is AWESOME! And I have a Tom Baker scarf.
The first Dr. I saw was Tom Baker — so I can’t help but think of him as the real Dr. The others seem to me like they’re just filling in for him.
I’ve only just started watching old episodes of Dr. Who, from when it started in the 60s. I have yet to finish the first ep (mom and sis got home so I had to go be sociable, plus YouTube loads at an abominably slow pace here at home, despite the “high speed” DSL internet), but so far, to be honest, the first doctor seems like a real jerk. Not at all like the Doctors I’m used to (9 and 10, especially 10), but it’s the first ep–I’m sure he’s not as bad as he seems, or if he is, that he’ll grow on me.
This is funny. Okay, I have school until the 23rd, at which point winter break starts and doesn’t end until January 4th. But I’m getting surgery on the 5th (adenoid removal, possible tonsillectomy), then I’m out for the rest of the week, so I only have one day of school.

This is really random, but does anyone here play Spore for the computer?
Urgh. Dental Surgery. I have a consult today about my wisdom teeth–there going to take xrays and the like, but considering one of them is a quarter-half way in…..I’d be surprised if they told me I didn’t need to have them out. So I’m scheduled on the 4th, for my surgery. And of course I have all four.
Me’n’you can be miserable together, hm?
Wisdom teeth removal? Ouch. I got mine removed last year. They knocked me out for it. Are you planning to get knocked out to, or merely very heavily dosed up on anesthetic?
I think they’re knocking me out entirely…..I’m not allowed to eat 6 hours prior and they’re going to give me IV sedation/anesthetic. Not looking forward to it…..
They’re knocking me out entirely as well… 4 days after christmas (Clare, what are ya doing for winter break… I’m getting my wisdom teeth removed…. HAHAHA have fun with that. Here, let me tell you a horror story from when I got mine removed….wow, thanks *NOT*) has been a common course of dialouge… and I HAVE 6 WISDOM TEETH (three on my upper right, though two are actually benign boney tumor-like thingermabobs) All of which are being pulled out. I was optemistic until I saw my persrciption for pain meds… they’re giving me one med to take every 8 hours, another if that doesn’t work and yet another if all else fails. I’ll be drugged to hell and gone for at least 3 days after I get mine excavated (they aren’t actually in, but they hurt like heck anyway)
We can all be miserable together… and I don’t get to miss any school at all
As for pain meds, the oral surgeon told me that I should take ibuprofen, motrin, or I think advil, every 6-8 hours the two days following surgery, but that if that stopped working, he could get me some other drug (forgot what it’s called) that’s a mild narcotic……That I could take simultaneously with the motrin, if I needed. *shrug* I hope it doesn’t hurt too much. Oh, and I’m supposed to ice my face 20 minutes on 20 off for the 48 hours following, as well.
and no popcorn, chips, or sodas with straws for a week or so after….. *sniffle*
Possibly Vicodin? That’s what they gave me…And take the food warnings seriously. I have a friend who didn’t and she got a dry socket, which is when the jaw nerve is exposed because the blood clot protecting it had gotten sucked up when she used a straw…Can you say painful?
On the other hand, you can request an entire tub of ice cream for yourself, to help with the pain. Wait a day or so before eating, that first day your jaw is going to be pretty much useless, and you won’t be able ot properly enjoy it.
You can also expect to have chipmunk cheeks and jaw bruises for the next week or so afterward.
I’m truly sorry if any of this is scaring you/making you unable to sleep at night/causing you to run around in circles while crazily plotting ways to get out of the surgery. So much for avoiding horror stories.
I don’t think it was Vicodin, but I could be mistaken.
As for food warnings, I intend to take them seriously, and am ignoring my father who keeps reiterating the fact that when he had his out, it didn’t hurt at all and he went out for Mexican that night and gorged on chips and other such hard foods and then went out hunting the next day….
He thinks all the post-surgical instructions sound ridiculous, from the eating restrictions to the orders to take pain meds of some kind (even if not the narcotics) to the “ice your face 20 on 20 off for 48 hours”……
And don’t worry–you’re not freaking me out.
Happy Apollo 8 Week!
So what does everyone want for Christmas/holidays?
My parents already got me the Muse subscription. Apart from that, I don’t know.
Well, I know I’m getting the Jethro Tull sheet music I want, and I just forgot everything else.
/
@Soccer starr-
Hmm. Good question. My answer- BOOKS! from my relatives here in the USA, and Hello Kitty/small, blue, and cute accessories from my Japanese relatives. It’s been the same for practically four years I think. I’m rather predictable, I’m afraid.
Also, sorry for disappearing for a while. I’ve been rather busy.
94- Adobe Photoshop for me.
Oh, and chalk one up for Carl Sagan! One of the SAT practice questions that my dad made me do today had “aggregate” as the correct answer, which I had looked up two years before because it was the only word in the Pale Blue Dot essay I didn’t know!
I’m here! I’m here! After a two-day journey (looooooonnnnngggg stopover in Narita) I am finally in California!
Ah, to be cold again is a wonderful feeling.
94-Holidays are pretty much over for me, now that the two Eids have passed. I got jewelry, chocolate (gone in about 5 seconds), cash, and a gift card for Old Navy, which has joined my collection of unused gift cards. One of these days I’m going to have to go out on this huge shopping spree and use all of them up…especially the Barnes and Noble gift cards.
Oh yes, I have a lot of Borders and Barnes & Noble gift cards that I should probably use sometime…and I’m a huge fan of Old Navy, I’ve got one or two gift cards for them too actually…
First day of finals: pretty good? I know I’ll get a 1 in APUSH–and besides, it was a take-home test on which we were also given the whole 70-minute period to work in groups on it. In physics I got the precise minimum for a 1–if I had missed one more point on anything in the semester, I’d’ve gotten a 2. *phew* In programming, I’m pretty sure I’ll have a one, once the teacher finishes entering all the grades. In honors precalc, however, I figured out that I could miss no more than 2 questions if I wanted to get a 1. *worries*
haha when I read this I thought you meant a 1 on the AP test and I was slightly concerned…:P
Are you assigned grades on a numeric scale?
Sigh…I wish we had a programming class.
Yeah. 1 = A, 2 = B, etc.
I am currently screaming at the top of my lungs to cleanse my frustration at homework and having to set the table. Very, very, shrilly. I just shocked myself at my vocal range. Maybe now I will have strep throat tomorrow and will be unable to go to school.
94 (Soccer starr)– Beatles shirts, CDs, etc. Also gift cards from various stores such as B&N and iTunes. I really want an iPod Nano, because I exploded my Shuffle in the washing machine, but my mom says I’ll probably just get it after Christmas. As in, we’ll pick it out together.
I am in denial that Christmas is only four days away. I absolutely cannot believe it.
You ex – ex – exploded your Shuffle in the washing machine?!
Well, it didn’t truly explode, though I did (accidentally!) let it go through the wash and dry cycle; actually it still works. I just can’t add any more songs onto it and the earphones are messed up too. So I’ve been using my mom’s Shuffle, which is –brace yourself– hot-pink, but I can’t stand Shuffles any longer because it’s impossible to find the right song.
So’s mine. Pink, not exploded.
And I cannot believe Xmas is 3 days away.
I am with you on the fact that X-Mas
cannot beis four days away…..Ahhhahahaha I love you and your Beatlemania, dear Silver Lining.
*lies on floor and twitches at decibel level of screaming*
Oh my gods. I just found this post I made on the March Random Thread, when I was just a wee neophyte. It is so embarrassing, but I wil post it again anyway, for your entertainment:
“This is so random, but I feel like telling people about it anyways. Here goes! Yesterday, I literally nearly murdered my friend! With a swing! And it was his fault, too! It was really funny!
And also. . . speaking of people almost getting killed by random objects. . . My friend’s neck almost got sawed off with a parachute yesterday! During Spanish class! and. . . today I fell out of my seat during Math class and started screaming for no apparent reason! And I didn’t even get yelled at!
Whoa. Sorry. I’m really hyper, can you tell?”
Oh, that’s really not THAT bad.
See #82 on this thread, I feel the same way.
I’m BACK! (Temporarily
)
Hmm, what’s happened recently? I got 3rd place in Anatomy and 4th place in Cell Bio at the most recent SciOly invitational, 69/70 on my Huck Finn objective exam, and Calc is going astonishingly well.
I like the symmetry. It’s quite lovely.
All right, I have to study for my Huck Finn essay exam, which is… *drumroll*
…tomorrow.
Can you believe it? It seems like everyone else’s break started yesterday. We have school until Wednesday. >.<
My schedule is seriously hectic. It's sort of insane.
Sorry, this was really random, but I haven't been on MB for WEEKS (gasp!), and I must admit I'm a little rusty.
P.S. My secular Christmas list? Duct tape, Mike&Ike's, Beatles Rock Band. I think that's it.
P.P.S.
Does anybody know anything about Harvey Mudd?Well, I’m off to the College thread. See you there!Kokonilly! How positively grand to see you!
MARFWARRIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ YOUR AVATAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KOKONILLY! *pies* Great to see you again.
Thank you! My goodness, when was the last time I was here? I think at the beginning of NaNo. o.0
Kokonilly! Hello again! I was wondering where you were…welcome back (temporarily).
GAPAs, could you add Festivus to the calendar? possibly festivus for the rest of us?
I’m having my airing of grievances but will probably just post it on the rants and ‘plaints thread.
Dear 48 page of APES outlines and 10-page math paper,
Please go die in a pit. Thank you.
Love, Tesseract.
I like that approach. I’ll have to remember it.
It doesn’t seem to be working, though…
Math paper? I understand worksheets, tests, projects, even (shudder) problem sets, but a math paper? What do you have to write about?
10? page? math? paper?
Well, technically speaking it’s minimum six pages, but the teacher strongly implied that it should be much longer than that. It’s A, B, or 0. Everyone has a different math topic or historical figure; my topic is Mayan Numerology and Representation of Zero.
Sounds cool. I would probably enjoy writing that paper. (Yes, I’m a total math geek.)
Sounds like a good topic at least. I got an extra credit point on one of my Archaeology and Pre history tests because I could identify two lines and three dots as meaning thirteen in the Mayan counting system.
Yes, it was my first choice for a topic.
I believe there was a muse issue on the Mayan writing system, long long ago…
Okay, I just checked the list of back issues, and it was the November 2000 issue. I have no idea where you could find it (my copy was destroyed by mice) but it might be a cool resource to use.
I didn’t subscribe way back then, as I was only six. I have a few years of back issues, but only, I believe, through 2002.
SFTRandomP.
Wheeeee!
Randomness Alert
Sorry, I just had to post this link.
Now, if you’re one of those intellectual people (i.e. not me) who can do calculus in your head or such, you should be on of two places: A, M.I.T. or B, [Link snipped] “Here” is Clark Aldrich’s blog. Mr. Aldrich is a brilliant guy who designs serious simulations for the Army. His blog is the kind of thing only people with giant brains would understand. (Admins, could you just check this before you zap it? It would make me happy.) I also have the fortune to know him. He’s waaaaay cool. (if you’re a geek.)
[Sorry, Eragon. Today is WAY too crazy to take time out to investigate links properly. I did copy the URL though and will take a look later. I’m sure a Google search can find it easily enough, too. ~Rebecca]
Christmas is that soon? I’m going to NC tomorrow? AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where has this year gone?! Goodbye year, you were nice. But too short.
My Christmas wish list? I have no idea. I never have any idea. I mean, there are things I want, but I’ll just get them myself probably.
Like, a computer, a concertina, the latest Bloody Jack book (which doesn’t seem to exist in any of the stores I’ve searched — ARG frustration!), maybe some new clothes, sans the shopping part….more books…..a few CDs….whatever. Actually, for my room to clean itself. That would be awesome.
I think my “new” iPod (it’s a few years old now) is starting to croak. The games don’t work anymore, not a huge loss, but it’s crashed a few times. iPods shouldn’t crash. That’s just scary.
So a new one of those eventually. *sigh*
What are you doing in North Carolina? How long will you be here for?
The Harry Potter theme park is opening soon!

It’s in Florida.
*Plots excuses to go to FL*
*curses vehemently* WHY can’t they have one HERE! Illinois is way better than Florida! Muse headquarters is here!
I used to live in Orlando, so I’ve found my excuse! Whoopee!
108.1~ I’m visiting a friend of mine from this summer and his family. I’ll be there tomorrow through the 29th. Where in NC are you? I’m going to be coming into the Raleigh airport (he doesn’t live in Raleigh, but in that area).
GAPAs, if that’s snip-worthy, sorry. I won’t say what time I’ll be at the airport, don’t worry. I’m not quite that stupid….
Darn it, I’m getting back from Colorado on the 29th. I’m within an hour of Raleigh–in fact, I’ll be flying out of RDU tomorrow morning. If you’re arriving really early in the morning, there’s a chance we’d walk by each other.
There was a post earlier mentioning a pit that reminded me of this….
So, I must of been 9 or 10 years old, and my family was in New Mexico visiting my grandparents, and we decided to see Chimayo. Now, Chimayo is one of those former missionary now church places, and it is notable because it contains a pit of holy dirt
(an aside… If you saw the words pit, holy and dirt on one of those “which one doesn’t belong” ERB questions, the natural answer would be “holy”, and therefore, even as a wee child, I found the juxtaposition of pit, holy, and dirt a bit well, odd)
Anyway, as most former missionaries are, Chimayo is large, poorly lit, and home to some truly astionishing (if gory) artwork. The art at Chimayo is even colorful.
We were nearly done with our self-guided tour when I found a small side room. My mother was explaining something to my sister a little behind me and my dad was briskly walking towards the exit. I walked into the room backwards, looking at all the pretty pictures……
And promptly fell into the pit of holy dirt, which is only six inches deep and maybe a 5inch by 5inch square. My mother pulled me out… I hadn’t even twisted an ankle.
However, standing in the room was a rather shocked and highly pissed lady holding a shovel…. we beat a hasty retreat.
And now, I would appreciate it if my wisdom teeth (see 92.1.1.1.1) Would go and die in a (not-so-holy…maybe hole-y) pit. Promptly.
Now if anyone actually read all of that, then thanks for indulging in my reminiscing, and have some choklit.
*takes choklit**laughs* That’s reeeeeally funny, you know!

Huh?
Christmas is just in 3 days? Unbelievable. *shakes head*
Today I just wasted away as usual on Christmas Break…I feel bad for you poor souls who still have school though, although many of the schools around here that still have school have gotten snow days in honor of the weather. It’s stopped snowing but some of the roads are still icy and such. Still too powdery to pack a snowman/snowballs/sled which doesn’t really make the snow seem worth it though. Ahhh, I guess I shouldn’t be complaining though.
We have school tomorrow, but then vacation the next day. Everybody will be head-crazy in the last few classes… not going to be fun.
Gah, winter storm. Half an inch of ice followed by another foot of snow, coupled with 50-mph winds–at exactly the wrong time. I’m supposed to serve at the 10:15 Mass on Christmas morning, and I don’t know if I’ll even be able to get to church. In addition, I don’t know if my grandparents will be able to make it to our house for Christmas presents / dinner.
Winter storms = good, but only when at the right time
But I did bring in a bunch of firewood, partly so we can enjoy a nice fire in the fireplace, and partly in case the power decides to go out.
To whomever it was who mentioned not having watched any Old [Doctor] Who because en couldn’t find it…..I myself have just started looking (having found some marvelous thing known as time, although much of that marvelous thing is going to be taken up by work over the holidays), and YouTube seems to be the spot, so far……I don’t know how many they have, but it looks like at least the first four of season 1 are there.
So, yeah…..
How old are we refering to… Old as in pre-Russel T Davies old or old as in beginning of Russel T Davies old?
Old, as in original (classic) Who that started in 1963. I’ve watched the first three eppies of it, now. Working on loading some more to watch later tonight…..
Yay, my picture’s showing already!
My cousins from Canada are coming today!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! Cool picture, Maths lover!!!!!!!
Today we are going to Pennsylvania. We’re there for 3 or 4 days, and then we go back home, stopping to visit NYC for a day or two.
Where did 2009 go?
119- I know! It went so fast.
Yes! Finally, after a half-day full of squeaking saxophones and out-of-tune trumpets, it’s finally Christmas break! No school for TWELVE WHOLE DAYS!!!!! I’m so happy I could die. (Literally) It’s so weird though, this is the first I’ve posted in *gasps* one ‘an a half days. I’m so ashamed. *sobs*
Merry early Christmas MB!
Okay, I am officially on vacation now.
And listening to Will Smith’s “Men in Black”.
Oh god. I remember when we had a dance in PE to that song. That was just…odd…
ATTENTION ALL MUSEBLOGGERS!
Please head over to the Alchemy thread and help us out with this RRR! It has potential, but I don’t want to write it by myself! Input is crucial from all writers! Please help!
Ow, my leg….. I pulled a muscle in my thigh on Monday during dance. It hurts so badly, I can barely walk. It’s more like skipping/hopping/limping.
Anyway. Today in school instead of doing work we watched “The Truman Show” for the entire day. It was really, really good, but so disturbing. *shudders* The “ad placement” lady was so funny, though.
Oh my gosh. *gives sympathy/painkiller choklit* I hope you get better soon!
Thank you! My leg actually feels a lot better.
Oh, feel better! I know what you mean regarding the skip hop walking thing–I had a sprained ankle this spring. I innovated this really, um, interesting bobbing sort of run, and I managed to figure outhow to march while hiding a bad limp…
Helloooo! I’m baaaack MB!
I finally got around to posting, finally. I expected winter break would bring unlimited MB time, but swim team in the middle of the day sort of slows everything down. I’ve been baking for quite a while, I made kanelkakor (Swedish cinnamon cookies) and I’ve been trying to find more recipes via the internet (I don’t have the patience to rifle through a million cookbooks) because I need to have cookies for all of the relatives that I’m seeing on Christmas day and we don’t have enough fancy little boxes and I can’t decide on recipes and and and and…! *hyperventilates*
Why is bubbles freaking out? Why is she beginning to speak in the third person? It’s because she’s got competition! (This would be the point in a mildly interesting television program where the commercial break comes in, what an exciting cliff hanger!)
*Commercial break deleted, you were spared weird cat products, freeze dried blueberries, and health insurance*
So, my relative ___________ bakes a tin of cookies for everyone every year at Christmas. They all taste the same, (very irksome) they’re extremely fattening (easily forgiven, but still…) and everyone positively raves about the eight varieties of chocolate-peanut butter cookies they experience every year. I could do much better, at least, I could put some GOOD cookies in, but I can’t do much about the unhealthiness.
I will keep you posted. The kanelkakor were a success, but there’s more in store! The feverish day of baking ahead awaits!
I feel bad that I haven’t been on lately… Things have been… busy. Happy Holidays!
So I’m going to be traveling most of today, but I can go on the computer now, which is good. Oh, and I found a cool superhero comic that the Langley Research Center printed back in 1992 called “Aero and SPACE”. And yeah, it has some of the dumb dialog that comes with it being a promotional comic, but it’s still cool.
Well, I’m officially a procrastinator. I’m supposed to be baking cookies like mad, but instead, I’m sitting on the bed with my laptop and writing about it. I’m also out of ideas for recipes, and we need more butter, but I’d rather sit here on MB instead of sift through the seemingly infinite variety of recipes at my disposal. It’s almost annoying, all of these great resources at my fingertips. Life is getting too complicated. *headdesk* wait – I can’t say that, I’m on the bed! *headpillow* *headpillow* *headpillow*
Back to recipes.
Join the club, I’m a HUGE procrastinator. Anything to get out of anything, especially when it comes to school stuff…
By the way, I heard somewhere that the average human being sticks to their New Year’s resolution until February 17th. (By the way, because I’m far from the “average” human being this time for me is more like 1 minute.) Anyhow, this year I think my resolution will be to stop procrastinating, although I’m sure this will last less then till February 17th.
Yaaaay! I found a chocolate cookie recipe! I didn’t want to do all spices or all fruits or all buttery goodness, so yes, I found a standby dark chocolate cookie recipe. I am NOT, however, stooping to the level of chocolate-peanut butter bar cookies, in other words, my relative. (see post 126)
Cookie baking will commence briefly.
(oops, SFTDP)
Gr. As soon as my dad gets home from work (and assuming he’s in a halfway-good mood), we get to open our Christmas presents.
*is very impatient*
Oh, look. Piggy has a laptop now.
Congratulations, Piggy.
Oh cool, nice! What kind did you get? (Also, if I may ask, why do you open your gifts on Christmas Eve? I know some other people who do that too and I think it’s just a family tradition with them. I’m assuming it’s probably the same for you…?))
Great!
That’s awesome, Piggy! Mac or PC?
Congrats, Piggy! Laptops are nice…… *strokes laptop*
132.2- It is a sort of family tradition, but not a strict one, to open presents a day early.
132.4- You really have to ask? *sigh* Dell Inspiron 1545, Windows 7 Home Premium, Pentium Dual-Core at 2.10 GHz, 4 gig RAM.
132.2- In Germany/Austria, presents always come on x-mas eve; my family usually does 50/50 eve/morning.
Alright, so some of you may have noticed that I shortened my name to “starr” by now. (Actually, it was kind of unintentional. For some reason the “soccer” part got cut off earlier, but I decided to just stick with it.) I think I will just keep it that way now, because I do like it all alone as it is and I’m still fine with you calling me soccer starr or ss or soccaaa (Yes, Kagy, you still may!) but I think I’ll just stay with starr, or at least for now.
Just so you know.
So I was playing Farmville on my facebook account when this notice popped up:
A Lost Penguin waddles onto your farm. This little guy traveled all the way from the North Pole to see the snow in FarmVille! He’s been separated from his sightseeing group and family. He could use a safe place to stay until he finds them.
Does anyone notice anything wrong with this? Like, maybe the fact that penguins don’t live in the North Pole?
The complete and utter ignorance of habitat is just driving me crazy. How could they possibly make a mistake as dumb as this? HOW?!?!
Well, for starters, it’s Farmville we’re talking about.
Too true.
Urgh. People who think there are penguins up here drive me crazy.
Not that I’m that far North, but the number of people who think there are penguins in Alaska……Yeah.
Hey, guys…Armada here, checking in from Florida. Just wanted to say hi, and maybe also bye for the winter…I’m not sure I’ll have computer access again. I’m missing you guys…
See yas in March.
Have a great winter, Armada! I’ll miss you. See you in March!
Aw, we’ll miss you, too! Have a wonderful time for all of us and see you in a few months…..
Joyeux Noël, mes amis! We just opened our presents, and I got:

*tells self to stop being random and click submit*
– choklit
– a jar of Bo Peeps, complete with felt angel on top
– a mini gingerbread house I could never bring myself to eat
– a really cute cat wall hanging kit
– The Boys’ Book of Survival (everything from avoiding pirahnas to avoiding homework)
– a bookmark
– two frog ornaments
– a pair of water pistols
It’s been raining here (so much for going to the beach) but it’s not that cold, and I like the rain. Scoffing the edibles and MuseBLogging is a good alternative. Last year it was hot and sunny, so it’s a change.
*happiness*
In other news, I just realized my 5K day is tomorrow! And I bought a cross-stitch magazine yesterday (two months late because it’s British) with lots of Christmas stuff. Including place cards that say “BAH” with a picture of a humbug sweet.
Merry Christmas to you, as well, even though it’s still another 6 hours and 10 minutes before Christmas starts here…..
Hmmmm, I’ll be the last MBer to reach Christmas, won’t I? *is feeling random*
I like those survival guides. They’re fun. I learned the rule of seven and other useful stuff from mine.

Um, RQ? I noticed your icon, and is that a gaia avatar? I apologize in advance to the GAPAs for talking about another website. *pays preemptive choklit*
Yup! ‘Tis. ^_^
Now comes your long search for an avi to match this one, I suppose… hint: my screenname has nothing to do with my blogname. Oh, and I’m wearing a big purple bow in my hair now, ’cause my friend gifted it to me for Christmas.
That really helped, didn’t it….
*got two purple scarves for christmas*
And purple isn’t even my favorite color!?
I assume you mean virtual scarves, no?
RQ- I didn’t have to search far from my comments. XD
(Or was it my inbox?)
Real ones. Thankfully, one is silky and light purple and the other is sort of …puffy and fluffy. *missed out on the virtual thing…*
Merry Christmas everyone!
I hope everyone has a joyous and peaceful holiday.
I’ve only got a few minutes of computer time, so this is it for me, but I send love, I’m alive, etc.
La La La La La La
La La La La La
La La La La La
I’m wishing on a star
And trying to believe
That even though it’s far
He’ll find me Christmas Eve
I guess that Santa’s busy
Cause he’s never come around
I think of him
When Christmas comes to town
The best time of the year
When everyone comes home
With all this Christmas cheer
It’s hard to be alone
Putting up the Christmas tree
With friends who come around
It’s so much fun
When Christmas comes to town
Presents for the children
Wrapped in red and green
All the things I’ve heard about
But never really seen
No one will be sleeping on the night of Christmas Eve
Hoping Santa’s on his way
When Santa’s sleigh bells ring
I listen all around
The herald angels sing
I never hear a sound
And all the dreams of children
Once lost will all be found
That’s all I want when Christmas comes to town
That’s all I want when Christmas comes to town
I have that song going around in my head because we watched The Polar Express on Christmas Eve. And all the dreams of children/ Once lost will all be found *sighs* It actually feels like Christmas now.
Merry Christmas!! Joyeux noël!! And feliz navidad!!

Merry Christmas everyone! I am happy to say that I am posting on my new…. LAPTOP!!!
So at least two MBers were given laptops for the holidays.
Ah, I love this laptop. *hugs*
Merry Christmas, MuseBloggers! I am so very very pleased to say that I, too, have been given a gift from the lovely company that is Apple– an iPod touch!!!!!! …Along with a strangely large amount of Beatles paraphernalia, but who is really surprised by that? I am in an exceptionally good mood. It’s an “I ♥ everyone” kind of day.
141–
Thank you, Automated Message Dispenser!
@”starr”– No, please don’t change your name! I mean, I like starr (*coughcoughRINGOcoughcough*) but it really messes me up when people change their names. Oh, well!
Ew, Apple? No way.
WHAT?!?!? How could you POSSIBLY say that?!?!? *hyperventilates*
Squee! I got an iPod Touch too!
*obsessedwithbeatles*
But anyway, it’s just a nickname and with my avatar I don’t think it’ll be too confusing, right?
No, not too confusing. Actually, it’s okay because the soccer ball is right next to “starr” so it still kind of says “soccer starr.”

Alas, our mountains of snow will likely be melted by the coming rain. But it’s been awesome having snow on the ground in December!
That already happened to us! And it’s very soggy outside, but I rather enjoyed having snow for an hour and a half.
Ouchie. Rain on Christmas. Now, I think it was SUPPOSED to rain here in not-so-cold [ pretty name ] Massachusetts, and the skies look cloudy, but…I hope it doesn’t…*hurries off to Boston’s website to check weather for state*

-gift card to Old Navy so I can buy more clothes (Yay!)
-my whole family got a bunch of board games
-choklit!
-Guitar Hero World Tour.
About Guitar Hero – I like it and all and it seems very fun, but my um, very-bad-at-vid-games family and I can’t figure out how we actually play a freakin’ song with someone on guitar and drums at the same time. It seems like that should be the most obvious thing in the world, but we’ve looked through the instruction book and tried a couple of different settings and nothing is working. Either we can only have the guitar or drums on at one time, or both are playing but it’s like on this setting where you’re making up a song on your own. Can anyone help or at least guide me to the right place? Thanks! *choklit to whoever can understand video games*
You need two controllers, if it’s for Wii. You can only have as many instruments as you have controllers.
Yup sorry it’s for the Wii I forgot to mention that – when you say controllers do you mean the remote? Because we have a guitar and drum set and we put them all up and put the remotes in them (We do have 2 remotes) like it said but I’m not sure if that’s what you mean… Thanks.
One of them needs to be set on “one” (look at the little ight at the bottom. Is it the first?) and the other on “two” (look at the little light at the bottom. Is it the second?) If not, then go to the main screen and reset, following the instructions on the screen.
Yep, thanks. *thank you choklit to Tesseract and Enceladus* We actually went back – the lights on the remotes were set up correctly, but it turns out they needed to be resynchronized to the Wii. Anyhow, we went back into the Remote Settings and fiddled around with it and it worked.
And yes, the game is very fun although I’m horrible and that’s on Easy.
No problem. I have Guitar Hero World Tour. It’s a lot of fun, especially late at night during sleepovers. I can generally cope pretty well on Hard for guitar and Easy to Medium for drums.
“Everything’s closed”–my dad, after an attempt to go grocery shopping.
Oh, the funny things that happen when December 25th is just another day.
On another note: this thread is pretty long. Part 3 coming up anytime soon?

And I cannot believe I forgot to mention that I got the DVD for HP6!!! I just watched it this afternoon, and it was the first time since seeing it in the movie theater when it first came out surprisingly enough. I actually did like it although I still have not been able to figure out the part at the beginning that wasn’t in the book…
I love it, too. But my family only consists of three people, so we can only play a good game of it when my friends come over or we have a party.
AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! EEEEEEEEE!!!! OOOOOOOOOHHH!!!!
Gifts:
Chocolate Orange!
BLACK AND PINK HP MINI LAPTOP EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Oh my caking god I HAVE A LAPTOP!
And a pasta machine! wheeee!
This has got to be by far the best present I’ve gotten. I wasn’t expecting it AT ALL- in fact I wasn’t expecting much of anything because my parents spent a bunch of money on airplane tickets. But the mini (which I am using now) was a gift from an ex-colleague of my dad who resigned from HP and got a free laptop! Which is good because my mom and dad would probably rather eat worms than give me a laptop. But I HAVE A LAPTOP!
And the standard twenty-five stuffed toys and gazillion miniature socks from a slightly senile great-aunt who’s convinced that I’m four.
Hey!
I got a guidebook to Italy, some fluffy pijamas, and a crossword puzzle game.
Oh, and as a gift to everyone here, another Top Ten list I made up on the long drive here…
Ten Things I Am Not Allowed To Do In The Apollo Program:
10) “Kennedy wants us to go WHERE? No, seriously.” is not an appropriate reaction.
9) I will not quibble with my boss over if “the decade is out” in 1970 or 1971.
8) I will not send Spider-Man comics to Administrator Webb, as he is very tired of the joke.
7) When told I am to ride a Saturn rocket, I will not ask “Like the car?”
6) “When do we get the Tang?” is not an appropriate question to ask during astronaut training.
5) I will not ask the CapCom to play Beatles records over the comm channel. Not even if the album has just come out.
4) The white room guys work very hard to strap me in. Screaming “OW! AHHH! Not so tight!” will not be appreciated by them.
3) When the Earth appears small enough to cover with a thumb, I will not suddenly start singing “I’ve got the whole world, in my hands…”
2) When the carrier picks me up, it is not a good idea to start singing “I’m On A Boat”.
1) When the president (Nixon) comes to meet me in quarentine, I will not ask “Why didn’t you burn the tapes?!?!” no matter how much I will want to.
Happy Holidays!
8) is supposed to be “Number 8”.
Presents…..More than I can recall right off.
Best:
1. The 12th Torchwood book, “The House that Jack Built”
2. One of the Dr. Who books, “The [something] of Chelsea 462” Forget the title, precisely
3. A Dr. Who book of Monsters. Y’know, like a compilation with discussions of all the aliens in the series, including Classic Who. So I can’t read a lot of the book yet, because I’ve not even watched an entire season of Classic Who…..And there are so many I’ll never be able to watch, because about 100 are lost/deleted/wiped/whatever you want to call it.
Others, many of which are also awesome, but the DW/TW was especially good because Mom had told me a week ago that she didn’t get me any–which at the time she hadn’t:
1. HP watch
2. HBP soundtrack
3. HBP DVD
4. HP calendar
5. HP SS Ultimate Edition DVD
6. HP CoS Ultimate Edition DVD
7. HP cardboard display from local grocery store
8. Two HP puzzles
9. Beedle the Bard Standard Edition (already have Collector’s)
10. John Granger’s analyzation of DH
11. Ummmmmm. Lots of other HP things/fantasy things. I forget. But lots of stuff. Ohhhhh.
12. HP clue game
13. HP chess game
14. HP bookmarks (fancy metal sort)
15. Dragon ornament
16. Hermione ornament
17. Scabbers plush rat
18. Three Hedwig owls (3 of set of 4)
19. A few HP shirts, one or two I have, most from the thrift store mom works at, but one super awesome one….. It reads “Levicorpus” on the front, then on the back, upside down at the bottom of the shirt, it reads “Now you can read this”.
20. Uhhhhhh. I forget again. *shrug* But lots and lots and lots of other stuff……..
Oh, I know: I also got Brisingr (been meaning to read that, but I need to reread the first two, first) and Eldest (not Eragon, because Mom thought I had it….Brisingr she got me new, as the last time I was at B&N I’d wanted to get it, but Eldest she snagged through the thrift store she works at. Which is actually a good thing, probably cost about $2 or so, instead of however much expensiveness it would cost new)
Lucky you, all I asked for for christmas was the two ultimate edition DVDs and a fake horcrux prop replica I found in a cataloouge, and seeing as I have not opened them yet and none of the other presents are large-DVD or smallish-box-that-may-contain-a-fake-horcrux shaped, I don’t think I got either *sobs in corner*
Well, a lot of the HP stuff I got were things that came in at the thrift store my mom works at….And so all of the things from there would’ve cost under $20 all told…..Although I do know the Horcrux you mean (I just pointed it out a few days ago in the Noble Catalogue along with everything else on the multiple page spread of HP awesomeness as being something I wanted–but likely won’t get).
I think if it weren’t for my mom working there…..My Christmas would’ve been much less of a Very Harry Christmas.
*gives hugs and supplies tissues*
That’s a lot of HP stuff…I just got the 6th movie on DVD.
Whaaaattt? Torchwood books?
yup, BBC likes to be through.
there’s torchwood (and Doctor Who) shows, music, books and audio books. Oh, and t-shirts. My mum gave me a shirt with the TARDIS on it for christmas.
There are 15 Torchwood books, the first three of which have been abridged and turned into audio books, as well, read by members of the cast. Then there are I think 4 that were solely marketed as audio books, no real book version available. There are also 4 “audio dramas”, radio broadcasts that took place between the end of Season 2 and the start of Children of Earth. These radio broadcasts can be found on YouTube. I’ve listened to the first two, so far.
Since everyone’s doing it…
Some of the things I got for Christmas:
Two DS games. (I’ve had one for the past two years of owning a DS. It’s sad. Anyways…)
A waterproof cover for my camera.
Anyway… I think that mostly covers it. Well, except for the HP & HBP video game that my brother got, but he can’t play because he hasn’t read HBP yet. So he traded it to me in exchange for a video game that I don’t care about any more, and let him play anyway. With the condition that I can’t restrict him from playing, after he reads HBP. And he can trade back at any point. I’m happy with this exchange.
And he got a Wii. (He got mostly video games, actually. He isn’t sad about this. Yes, he’s more or less a geek. Or is it nerd?) Which means I have to be nice to him if I want to play it… Have I ever mentioned how annoying he is? I don’t think I have… Well, suffice to say, he is annoying.
I probably won’t be on much in the next two days. You probably won’t even notice I’m gone, but in case you do, know that I heartlessly deserted you. Okay, so I actually decided that when I have a choice between visiting with family I don’t see very often and going on MB, family wins out.
I’d say he’s a geek. I’m nerdy, and not a total gamer.
We got a Wii, too. Which was a shocker.
Possibly the best present I received was a new subscription to Muse! I don’t think I’ve had one for at least four years so that made me really really happy.

I just finished watching the Dr Who Christmas special……The second half on January 1 promises to be good, I think. Tonight’s definitely had more of the flavor of, say, the end-of-series episodes than of previous Christmas specials.
I’ve got a bad feeling, though, from what happened in the last few seconds…..I just don’t think it bodes well. For what, I dunno, it just seems like it could be….bad. Very bad. And I’m not sure why I feel that way….Eh, I need bed. I’m in a very weird state of mind right now. Maybe I”m coming down off of my chocolate covered coffee bean high (I snarfed at least a dozen or so earlier in the day, although I didn’t notice much of an effect–maybe jabbering at a faster speed than normal, but I would attribute that to the excitement of an awesome Christmas, rather than the caffeine).
Anyway, yes, bed–it’s nearly midnight, afterall.
Bad indeed. It seems that the people-who-shalt-not-be-named at the end (not the race) are not as they should be… what has happened to them? And from the exclusive preview on the website, why are the angry?
Actually, flipping through my Dr Who guide to the “Monsters” in the Whosiverse, I got the impression that the people-who-shalt-not-be-named are less than fond of the Doctor. A fact that it appears people familiar with the Classic Who would probably know.
Speaking of which, off to load some more of those via YouTube. Unfortunately, the next serial in Season 1 of Classic Who (Marco Polo serial), has all 7 episodes missing. *sob* According to Wikipedia, around 100 or so episodes of Classic Who are completely missing, except for unofficial audio recordings and/or stills. *sniffle*
And I’ve not watched the exclusive preview……I think I’ll wait ’til next Friday to see what happens.
It is interesting because people-who-shalt-not-be-named should be less than happy with both the doctor and the… erm, also un-named evil dude. (but I was happy because his wife was A.good and B. brave in the end (for her, beginning of episode) I really like her last words, or to qoute a friend of mine her “closing remarks”)
exclusive preview? website? do tell.
My grandfather, aunt, uncle and parents are really generous.
I got:
-Hot cocoa mix
-metronome
-Monty Python DVDs: Life of Brian and Monty Python and The Holy Grail
-Portable DVD player
-Star Trek: TNG (season 3)
-A big box of Ferrero Roches
-Logicomix
-History Of The Modern World, Part 2
-Scrabble Slam (card game)
-iPod Touch!!!!!!
*is happy*
@Enc: Ooh, a Touch! Sweet! My cousin got one, too. Me and my sissy got first generation Touchs last year. iTouchs are awesome. *cough* I hate asthma. It’s so annoying.. and it doesn’t help that the spacer for my inhaler makes a mooing noise that my sister likes making fun of.
My neighbor got an iPod Touch. I was over at her house for about four hours yesterday setting up an iTunes account for her and then playing on the Wii that they just got.
I got a lot of Barnes and Noble gift cards, so I’m really excited for all of the books I’m going to get (and one pen).
In case anyone remembers my pen obsession post, I found my old Fisher Space Pen!
Cool!
(If you knew I was going to say that, give yourself some psychic chocolate.)
But he would have already!
Yay! I love the day after Christmas because you’re still on vacation and everyone’s still happy, but museums and things are open and you can go places.
Me too. Except it’s raining and we had a power outage that just ended. Stupid rain.
Oh, and I got Rhythm Heaven for the DS. It’s hard, but addicting!!!
We just had a short power outage too but it only lasted for about 2 minutes or so…lights blinked off, and came right back on again before I even had time to react. It’s raining here too, we probably live around the same area.
Merry Merry Christmas, everyone! (Yes, I know it’s the day after, but the sentiment still rings true).
Birthday!
Merry Christmas everyone (a day late) and happy birthday SudoRandom!
Happy birthday, SudoRandom and Keiffer’s Little Sister!
GAH!
So I misread the dates on Wikipedia…I thought that the End of Time was broadcast December 25 and 26 in the UK, and January 1 and 2 in the US…So I cheerfully sat down to watch the first part, thinking the second part could not be far behind…and now I am left writhing in suspense until JANUARY!!!!! This is horrible, horrible, horrible! -collapses in a wretched sobbing heap-
So, how was everyone’s Christmas?
First part? Hold it, is this on YouTube, or do you actually get the
Sci-FiSyFy channel?YouTube.
MUST WATCH MUST WATCH
Honestly, I’ve grown to dislike Russell T Davies’ finales, but I still want to know what happens. Thank goodness Moffat is taking over full-time next season.
yeah. We yell at Rusty a lot around here. (well, one of my groups of friends calls him Rusty and the other calls him RTD and everyone gets rather annoyed/angry at him.)
Moffat’s very good. For a while I was quite upset that RTD was leaving, and then I actually took notice of the episodes that Steven Moffat had written, and they were all my favorites. So I went back to being worried about Matt Smith. I’m not worried about him anymore, I’m sure he’ll be fine…but I will miss David Tennant…it’s hard to believe he’s really leaving, and soon, very soon.
Like Blink. Moffat wrote Blink, I believe.
And “Empty Child” and its second half, “The Doctor Dances” (I loved those….but maybe that was just for Capt. Jack).
*looks at wikipedia list* He also wrote “Girl in the Fireplace” with the clockwork aliens, which I wasn’t the most fond of, and the two parter in the library where we meet River (however will that be explained with the Dr regenerating before we find out when he met her? His body will be different. How would she recognize a previous regeneration?) And that one wasn’t high on my favorites list, either, but when I think back on them, they really weren’t bad episodes. Maybe I’d just burnt myself out on too many hours of DW those days.
*returns to watching reconstructions of the Marco Polo episode arc*
I didn’t care for River Song, but the episodes were very good.
river song wasn’t my favorite, but I loved the library, as well as the ideaology behind it.
I also liked empty child and doctor dances, but that might be either capt. Jack related or possibly cause I love historical fiction and WWII era in particular.
Blink was one of my favorites ever.
And RTD has a huge dark side… mum says he killed off most of the torchwood characters as well.
For christmas my mom gave me a shirt with the TARDIS on it (which I love but will never, ever, wear to school) And 3 of the Doctor Who books (published by BBC) the writing is awful, and if you haven’t seen the show you’d porbably hate them, but if you have then you can envison what the actors as the characters in the book would do, and they’re nice fluffy brain candy books.
If you listen very closely near the beginning of End-o-time part one it sounds like the doctor married queen elizabeth 1 then had to leave, which explains why she was so pissed at him in the episode with shakespeare and the globe.
God, I’m going to miss David Tennant as The Doctor *sniffles*
Oh, yes, Torchwood. I will never forgive RTD for what he did there…..
Which three? I got “The Taking of Chelsea 426” for Christmas, but haven’t started it, as well as one of the Torchwood books. *hopes the writing on ’em is better than the three you read*
“Good Queen Bess”
Now with a different nickname.
But David Tennant leaving is very sad…..He’ll always be one of my top two favorite doctors. Maybe even #1.
I got, erm, letmecheck…Beautiful Chaos, The Eyeless, and the Story Of Martha.
My mom as a ton of torchwood books… she finds them addicting… her theory is that they are born from episodes that didn’t get made.
David Tennant is definately my favorite doctor… there was this one mini-show where he runs into a previous doctor, who was the doctor when he was a kid and he says “you were MY doctor” after pointing out all the characteristics they have in common. I think that David Tennant as the doctor (god he’s a good actor, by the way..) Will be my doctor… but you never know.
I just hope the new guy is good…..
My favorite episodes:
)
Blink
Girl In The Fireplace
Tooth and Claw
Gridlock
The Unicorn And The Wasp
The Fires Of Pompeii
The one with the Game Shows Of Doom, with Rose and the Doctor and Captain Jack
~ ~ ~
Least favorite:
The finale of Season 4 (“Destroy everything”? What an original evil plot! And leaving Rose in her dimension with a clone of the Doctor to keep her company?
The one with the giant spider (“GET ME BACK TO MY WEDDING!”)
Oh, and Silence In The Library was also one of my favorites.
The one you forgot the title of is called “Bad Wolf”
I wish we had a Doctor Who thread, but the GAPAs have already said no. *sigh*
GAH WHERE IS PART FIVE
Sorry, this really should be on the GTVS thread.
It’s also on megavideo, via Surf the Channel, if you don’t want to bother with parts.
That’s where I watched it last night.
So…
I’ve cleaned up my desk and made a new sign for it (Warning: This desk is part of the territory of a large predator. Do not antagonize it by loitering, leaving objects (except cash, real gems or candy) and/or disturbing it when it’s busy. Donations in monetary or chocolitary form are greatly appreciated). And started editing my NaNo nightmare… *shudders*
Ugh, flu, ugh.
Word problem:
Kokopelli52 has a bad flu. Contrary to the proper treatment, she was forced to hike up a tall, cold mountain in the rain and wind because “it had already been arranged.” Then she developed a fever, but was not taken home as is generally accepted. Instead she was hauled off to a rose garden (outdoors) for several hours, feeling as though she was going to throw up/collapse. Then she was dragged back home, but her parental units had neglected to bring out the key and being the more agile member of the family Kokopelli52 had to climb up on the fence and onto her carport window and then into her bedroom window to unlock it the door. And then the heater broke. She is now shivering under a blanket with her laptop.
Question: let a be Kokopelli52. Let b be the flu. Let c be her feelings and general wellbeing today.
c=a+b
Lemme guess; c=absolutly-down-in-the-dumps-couldn’t-be-worse? *gives sympathy and medicinal choklit**gives Kokopelli52’s parents “Make More Sense” choklit*
Okay, they finally believe that I am indeed ill. Oh joy. I think it was the chocolate.
So I’m relaxing with my Uncle’s laptop and writing a weird kinda-crossover story about Disney World and Cape Canaveral.
Oookaaaay…
(They’re only 50 miles away, you know.)
When a maniacal reactionary opposed to progress forms a sinister alliance, both fictional characters and ghosts from history will find themselves in a battle for the future…
I’m considering a weird kinda-crossover story about Star Trek/Doctor Who/Discworld
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
No, seriously, I was thinking recently about a Doctor/Discworld crossover. I imagine the History Monks would have something to say about him turning up on the Disc.
Of course, if we bring Torchwood into it, there’s the possibility that Jack Harkness might meet Nanny Ogg… I don’t even want to think about that.
*Has just had random idea for a scene*
Rincewind wandered along one of the shadier alleys in Morpork. A loud whirring noise and a flashing blue light caught his eye. He whirled around, and saw a blue box materializing at the end of the alley. A smartly dressed man in a trench coat stepped out, followed by a female companion who stared meekly out. The man walked over to Rincewind, who ran off without a word.
Are we unsure as to why the command to cancel a replying comment is ‘cancelar’?
Or am I just out of the know?
-A
I’m pretty sure that the original Word Press was written in Portuguese or something like that, and the cancelar just stuck. (Ok, I have no idea where I know that, so don’t quote me on it…but I think it’s true. Probably from scanning the older threads.) Besides, cancelar is waaay cooler than plain old “cancel”, dontchya think>
I’m not sure, but I think it has something to do with Portuguese software…

Yep, that’s the quote where I found it.
Ugh. I have just-barely-sort-of recovered from a miserable bug and am
procrastinating badlycarefully and neatly packing my snow gear.Hello, guys! Meet Acer. He’s my new buddy. Wave to everybody, Acer! *Acer waves*
Acer’s my new netbook. He’s an Aspire One D250. My other new friends are the Beatles – I can finally play their songs! – duct tape, and fingerless gloves. (Just so you know – the BEST PROBLEM EVER to have is not being able to open duct tape because your hands are full with your Nerf gun and fingerless gloves.
) This year was a great Christmas.
Oh, I also got a lot of smaller stuff, including a tennis ball (I’m not sure what I’ll do with it)), awesome socks, a new alarm clock, $100 from grandparents, random magazines, a 2010 calendar, and a case for my

laptopnetbook.Hello again MB!
I trust that your Christmas was absolutely FANtastic!
*sigh* Luna’s plans may not be possible…….That is, to cram as much Classic Who watching as possible into Christmas break. It would seem we have a limit on how much data we can “download” in a month. 10 gig. Our DSL service provider sent an email that we’ve used 7.58 of our monthly allowance, which is apparently double our “normal” usage.
So, um, yeah, despite the fact that I don’t think of watching vids on YouTube and the like “downloading”, I guess they count…….And so it looks like if I don’t want to be murdered by my father (that is, exceed that amount and cause him to be billed an outrageous amount), I won’t be watching much Who come January. And should probably cut back on video watching for the rest of December, as well……*sigh*
Luna is not happy.
Luna is going to return to watching TW radio broadcastsActually, it seems parents are turning a movie on that’s on the TV, so Luna will go watch that. Luna has only seen the first 4 parts of TW radio broadcast “Lost Souls”…..No time to watch the 3rd part if she’s going to be social. *sigh*After.
Ahh many comments!!
I’m glad that you all had good Christmases, and I shall add to the general report that mine was entirely satisfactory as well.
Good friends, good food, fun games and holiday cheer made it a lovely day.
LBK is so tired, she is writing in the third person. LBK suffered a period of late bedtimes and early awakenings over Christmas. LBK is sorry if she is rude. *grumbles* LBK doesn’t like sleeping alone. LBK also strongly dislikes her dad for closing her door when he went to work. LBK likes sleeping with cat, Snookie. *grumble* On the bright side, LBK got
asome really cool books for Christmas;A Really Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
Open Me Up by lots of people
That’s all LBK can remember.
Beedle is writing in third person because it seems like the thing to do. Beedle’s Christmas tree look surprisingly nice, despite being put up in less than fifteen minutes on Christmas Eve.
Beedle has finally finished her graphic arts project, though she didn’t do it correctly, or maybe she did it too correctly, but doesn’t have the time or energy or will to redo it.
So Beedle will move on to her other load of homework. I got (whoops, there goes the third person thing) Spanish homework, and a lot of it too, which is ridiculous because it’s not an honors class. My teacher is evil.
I have bio homework too, which I lost. I’ll get it from my friend. I have to read a long chapter, make a graph, and study, because there’s a test the day after we get back.
I also have to make a children’s book version of Great Expectations for some reason. The teacher wants it to be under thirty pages, which is going to be impossible because I have to tie up all of the mysteries (which means I have to include all of them), make it creative, keep it simple, keep it g-rated and instill morals on the hypothetical youngsters. The g-rated part is going to be the hardest because the book has so much high level material. Oh well.
Random musings:
I don’t want to do my homework! Cake all the homework we get during the break…most likely I’ll put it off until the very last minute, as always… *sigh* Some things never change.
I really hope that people stop sending me that stupid Justin Beiber (spelled right? probably not.) fan e-mail thing soon. I don’t follow celebrities or pay much attention to them, but it’s getting really annoying…
What other magazines do people subscribe to here besides Muse? (I think my subscription for Muse just got renewed…I think, that is. Even if it wasn’t *coughallmymom’sfaultjustkiddingcough* I’ll still check it out from the library the next time a new one is published. I love libraries…)
Let’s see, Nick Mag, before it got canceled, Popular Science, Discover, and I think that’s it. *scratches head*
Seventeen. I just started getting it for free. I don’t know why. It’s all about like hair and makeup and kissing and sex and ew. But they do have great coupons. “I’m winning!” I used to get Birds and Blooms, but that was boring, and I ended up with a giant pile of B&B next to my bed. Also, Bead Style, but I don’t know what happened to that. And I think I used to get Young Equestrian (I think that’s what it was called…) but I stopped, since I’ve (sadly) stopped riding.
Seventeen is kind of addicting the way a drug is – you know it’s bad but you just can’t stop. (well, that’s how it is for me at least…) I don’t get it and I’ve only ever read it in the dentist’s waiting room once or twice but that’s what I’ve decided.
Cricket. I used to get Zoobooks and Ranger Rick, but I grew out of RR and Zoobooks started repeating issues.
I get Cricket on top of Muse. I think that our subscriptions of Popular Science and Nintendo Power have run out… I used to get Disney magazine, and I think Nickelodeon.
Mental Floss Is the only other magazine I subscribe to currently. It’s quite nice despite the fact that it’s supposed to be an adult magazine. I don’t care. I shall subscribe to whichever magazines I choose. *laughs aloofly*
Kiwimuncher is wondering why everyone seems to be talking in third person. She also should be reading her AP Art History monster of a textbook.
Oh, do you have the monster thousand-page one? Our school uses the abridged version.
Fiddler has decided to stop in and say hi, and realized that speaking in third person seems the hot ticket around here these days, so decides to join in. Apparently she’s also using the present tense.
Alice really hadn’t noticed that people were speaking in third person, but apparently they are. She would like to state that she desperately wants a pet rabbit, which she would name Hyzenthlay and make an enclosure for in the backyard, but her mother won’t let her because she is too busy what with school and rehearsal and going out for a second play, which is perfectly reasonable but nonetheless very upsetting. She will now go stare at pictures of rabbits and sigh deeply.
Hyzenthlay? Like the rabbit in Watership Down?
I’d like a rabbit too, but I can’t have any furry pets.
Speaking of pets, I saw a cute baby garter snake at the pet store the other day. But apparently they can grow to 5 feet long. *shudder*
I used to want to get two dwarf rabbits and name them Fiver and Pipkin. I never did though, because I wasn’t allowed to get any more pets until my cat died, then once he did I was too busy with other stuff.
Me too, but I don’t think my parents would let that happen.
Hmmm, Ok, I will list what I got for Christmas as well.
– Box shaped like a cello
)
– Necklace
– Socks (which I ripped when I put them on…
– Once Upon a Time in the North
– The Year of Living Biblically
– Chocolate chip cookie candle
– Origami calendar
– Fountain pen
– Scribblenauts (for DS)
– Edward Scissorhands
– iPod nano
– Godiva chocolate
Among other things. I’m currently putting all of my CDs onto my computer so I can put them on my new iPod. I’m somewhat worried about the 8GB storage capacity, seeing as I have 2.7GB from my CDs alone. I don’t think that I’ll be getting too much more music in the future, but I’m still worried.
Hey, GAPA’s? New thread please?
I think that if Lady Bunniful doesn’t have a graphic ready, we won’t get a new thread, implying that our asking won’t change anything.
193- This thread doesn’t even have two hundred comments?! There doesn’t seem to be a point in another one.
Margaret is feeling very weird and slightly stressed and should be editing her NaNo. *shuts ears in oven door* Fine, fine, she’s going to go back to working now. At present rate, it’ll take her another 45 days to finish. She must speed up, but she no longer has Andromeda episodes to bribe herself with, and she doesn’t want to switch back to Star Trek or start anything new.
194- There are actually 519 posts, but there are only two more days in this month; I don’t think we need another one.
Oh yeah. Right. Hehehe.
I *finally* looked up what the whole NaNoWriMo thing is. And now I know what it is. It’s AMAZING! Now I’m going to be counting down the days to next November.
Good… *plots*
Aha. Pun not intended.

SFTDP
Is there going to be a magazine discussion/ roll call for this issue of Muse? I just got mine.
They’re up now.
Aha. Thank you!
Hello all, I’ve comandeered Phil’s iPhone and thus am able to access the Internet here at the airport. Joy. Airports are really quite boring places, and iPhones aren’t too easy to type on…blehh. I really need to get myself a new computer that works. I’m fully sick of using my ancient clunker, and I don’t even want to think how much of a pain packing Mom’s laptop would be (it’s large). I prefer packing light. Besides the obvious fact that I couldn’t take it unless she was there too. Meh.
This has turned into a rather pointless rant, so I’ll quit now, just after paying my obligatory choklit fines.*does so*
-sigh- My stepgrandfather gave me Twilight-themed journals for Christmas. I gave them to my sister. He doesn’t know me very well…
*gives Alice a virtual Alice In Wonderland themed journal*
*gives Alice virtual twighlight-scar healing chiklit*
*Gives lighter fluid and matches for which to burn said twilight journals*
hehehehehe….
I like Marfwarrior’s gift best…
That’s even worse than the stupid china doll my weird grandmother gave me for my birthday last year.
199~ Ohh, ouch. Is Opal a Twilight fan though?
Yay! I’m home!
179.2- That could be really great. The problem with meta-crossovers is that sometimes you worry you can’t make it as epic as it deserves. (I feel that way about the one I’m doing now. But I liked the idea of a ghost plane landing in the middle of Main Street USA with Gus Grissom in the cockpit so much I just had to keep going.)
Hey….listen to this! Please can we discuss? *itches to talk about planet*
The planet GJ 1214b is 42 light years away from Earth. It is almost covered with oceans thousands of miles deep. There MIGHT be life on it, however, some scientists believe that the atmosphere is too dense and hot to support life. It will eventually pass in front of our sun.
I HOPE THERE’S LIFE I HOPE THERE’S LIFE
aaaaahh!!! Aliens!!! cooolll!!! *becomes instant astronomy nerd (just add water from other planets)*
SQUEE!!! I did not know that! When’s it going to pass in front?
It’s not. See comment 209.
202- SO DO I SO DO I SO DO I. Exoplanets are so exciting!
I am so excited that there are SEAS on that planet and – I don’t know much about this? – when it moves in front of our sun, I don’t know when that will be either, maybe we could send a satellite to it? That would be awesome.
My ear has been bleeding recently…I scratched it on both sides, and now it really hurts like the time I got a double ear infection. (not fun if anyone’s wondering.) It’s such a pain. Ow, ow, ow.
That sounds horrible. *gives pie*
My gosh, I’m the disease/microbiology nut and I have no idea what that could mean! Seek medical attention! Do it now!
I’m not sure if that’s really necessary…I talked to my parents, and they don’t think it looked like anything dangerous. It’s just like a little cut – I kept scratching it and it got kind of irritated. I’ll ask them to call the doctor though just in case.
Just a question – what exactly is a tesseract? My friend asked me what it was and I realized I don’t actually know. Help!
Sheesh. I should finally get around to shortening/changing my name. I’ll get around to it one of these days.
I was just thinking that.
Read “A Wrinkle in Time.”
Not to find out what tesseracts are, I’m afraid. Madeleine L’Engle doesn’t describe them very well.
No, I suppose she doesn’t, but I liked the book.
A Tesseract is me.
No, actually, a tesseract is a four-dimensional cube.
Imagine you have a point (0 dimensions). You move it perpendicular to itself and get a line (1 dimension: length). You move the line perpendicular to itself again along a new direction and get a square (2 dimensions: length and width). You move the square perpendicular to itself in a third dimension and get a cube (3 dimensions). Well, if you were to move that cube perpendicular to itself in a direction we don’t have, you’d get a tesseract (4 dimensions.) There’s a lot more that I don’t know around on the internet. I could explain more, but my knowledge is fairly limited.
Robert’s right, though–what Madeleine L’Engle describes is more of a wormhole, or maybe movement in the fourth spatial and temporal dimensions at once.
(Wow, the word “tesseract” looks incredibly bizarre uncapitalized now.)
OOOH. That sounds cool. I love that wormhole/physics stuff.
Thank you! That’s what I thought it was, but I wasn’t sure. Thanks Tesseract!
GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! That can’t be good!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously…you could have, um, consumption of the ear! Or something nasty like that!
Yup, don’t worry. It doesn’t seem like something to get too worried up about, but my parents have looked and I think we will give them a call just in case.
204- A space probe to a planet 42 light-years away would be tricky. First, we have to wait for the planet to come into position so that we can learn as much about it from Earth as we can. Then, once we knew about the planet, we would have to find a suitable means of propulsion… light-years are BIG.
And wouldn’t it be years and years before it came into position… I don’t know…
(204) Careful! So far, nobody has actually detected any water molecules on the planet; the “seas” are just an inference based on estimates of the planet’s density. And it’s never going to pass between Earth and our sun. It orbits its own star, more than 40 light-years away. (It does pass in front of that star, however; that’s how astronomers detected it.)
Hm. An observation:
Firefly + Piggy’s overactive mirror neurons = Piggy simultaneously channeling the spirits of Kaylee, the Captain, River, the Shepherd, Simon, and several other characters at once.
Weird.
I’m trying to picture that. They’re not really similar characters.
Let me know if you need help reconstructing your brain.
Midnight Fiddler is HOME!!!
Without her luggage. EXPLETIVE. Eh well, it should get here within the next few days, so it’s cool. Ish.
Actually, it’s freezing outside, but that’s irrelevant.
OH MY GODS!!!!!! I JUST FOUND OUT I HAVE ANOTHER BOOK BY LARRY GONICK!!!!!! *pant pant pant**calms down* Okay, the book is called A Cartoon History of the Universe. I was bored today in the morning, so I looked down and, wouldn’t you know it, there was Larry’s name.

That series is really good.
And, it’s been known about for quite a long time here.
Sorry to break the news.
Hooray! It’s been snowing for the past three days, and I finally get to go sledding!
I just searched the word “wung.” 248,000 results. Oh, yeah!
Hello. I just got back from getting the H1N1 vaccine. It was more painful waiting in line for a half-hour than actually getting the shot.
My new favourite artist: Rene Magritte (I think that’s his first name.) His paintings are all surrealist, my favourite style of art. Has anyone else heard of/like his work?
Oh no. That stinks. I sniffed it. It’s so weird, I snorted H1N1…
Funny that art should come up the day after I finally went to the Art Institute. I never knew that they had so many really famous paintings.
215-I know Magritte! He’s awesome! (We have WAY too many art books in our house)
Nonsense. You can’t have too many art books.
*grins* I like having enough art books to swim in, but when I was “The Scream” for Halloween, someone said to me, “Oh yeah, I always liked Picasso’s work.” I nearly had a heart attack. Munsch did “The Scream,” not Picasso! This, and several other inaccurate art- and artist-related comments about my costume led me to believe I’d had a bit too much art exposure, or at least more than the average amount. That, and the fact that I wanted to be a painting.
216.1.1- As a museum curator’s daughter, I share your cringing at that remark. (If the guy had said Van Gogh, that I could understand, as the brushstrokes are similar, but Picasso…)
That’s so awesome, to have a museum curator as a parent! I love museums. All of them. Except I’m not too partial to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Although there were a lot of nice works there, like Christina’s World by Andrew Hyeth. I absolutely LOVE that painting.
200- Yeahhh. Unfortunately. She got some fancy edition of New Moon. I think my stepgrandpa just doesn’t know what teenage girls like and assumed Twilight was a safe gift since everyone talks about it…but really.
I actually had fun reading the ridiculous quotes and snorting over their melodramatic sappiness. And then there were quotes from classic literature–things like Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice and Shakespeare and that was even more ridiculous–as though Twilight could ever compare to those. And they were all really famous too. My sister made me guess their sources and I swear I got all except like three of them. Oh Stephanie Meyer, why so pretentious?
-has horrible thought-
What if Twilight is classic literature in two hundred years? Sure it’s viewed as garbage now…but so much great literature was just pop culture when it came out…and gothic novels which were trash two centuries ago are called classics now–not Jane Austen, of course, but maybe Shakespeare. And though I liked Wuthering Heights a great deal, it was so melodramatic and tangled. What if our descendants think of Twilight in the same way?
-dies-
I’m afraid that made it sound as though I think of Shakespeare and Austen as Gothic. I don’t, really–I was just sort of leaping around in my mind. I’m not that ignorant, I swear!
Are there any Minnesotan MuseBloggers in the vicinity?
MARFwarrior and I are planning a Minnesota Kokonvention. If you can make it to the Twin Cities by Saturday, please inform us and head over to the the Kokonventions thread so we can have a little chat.
219 – Sorry, I’m not around there.
Soo…
I got an Abercrombie & Fitch purse for Christmas (Obviously these people don’t know me very well, as I am the EXACT opposite of anything A&F!) so I decided to go and return in and try to find something else, as I really don’t like the design of the purse and think I would probably use a shirt much more.
Well, let me tell you. This tiny little purse was $75! A&F is ridiculously expensive, and all just because some people want to get the name brand clothing they decide to go and buy these things for over double you could get in any sensible store…
Going into the store – nightmare! First of all it smells like CRAP in there. Disgusting. I felt like I was submerging for air when I came out of the place. (not a good sign I’m guessing) and then it’s basically just all dark and shady in there with pictures on the wall of less-than-half-naked people and just…ugh. The clothes are aren’t very decent either – they all were pretty trashy to me, but that’s just my opinion. no offense to anybody who likes the stuff!
well, I ended up with a few cute tanks that I guess I’ll just layer underneath a long sleeved shirt or something like that. I’m happy with the shirts, but I definitely won’t be going in there anytime soon…
end rant.
AGREED I always have to hold my breath walking by A&F. And in my local mall, A&F and Hollister are right NEXT to each other. Last time I went, I nearly hyperventilated. And why is it so DARK?
So you can’t see the price tags.
I have always wanted to go into a store like that and have a perfume fight….
I never understood why that store advertises their clothes using half-naked models.
Whatever, I don’t shop there. Supposedly they’re doing really badly with the economy.
Agreed about the models thing. Probably just because they want everyone to feel all…sexy when they walk in? Not like it’s going to make you buy anything. And the logic is horrible – if you’re trying to sell clothes to people, maybe you should use models who are wearing clothes!
Yeah, that was definitely a one time experience for me…I’d be broke if I tried to regularly buy my clothes there.
If I hadn’t gotten it as a gift I definitely wouldn’t have bothered.
oh yes! My mom and I went to our local mall to buy shirts (I needed some plain long sleeved ones) and every time I walked past some such store I could barely breathe! I really hate the smell of perfume; sometimes its base smell can be nice like lilacs but no matter what it is it makes my nose feel all weird and tickle-y. Needless to say, I did not buy my shirts there. Instead, I bought them at the wonderful store Eddie Bauer where there shirts, as well as being on sale, are high quality thick cotton comfortable ones.
URG. I can’t imagine who it was that called me today. It was, well, kind of a prank call I guess. They asked a handful or random questions and then hung up just after I heard a few sounds of laughter. But who knows my home phone number? And who who knows that number knows that Phil is here? And who would do that? CONFUSING. I have a suspicion it was Gareth, but he claims it wasn’t him. I don’t know if he has my home number though, and I’d like to think he wouldn’t do something like that.
Sorry, this probably belongs on the rants thread.
A few months ago someone (I guessed who, but of course I couldn’t confirm my suspicions) got my mobile number and prank-called me every five minutes. I don’t know the suspect’s number and the caller withheld it. Once they texted me. They did it at school (once in French class, and I sit up the front and forgot to put my phone on silent… *shudder*), hanging up as soon as I got the phone out… I actually wished they’d done it more, so they would have wasted more of their credit.
My dad said that he’d like to donate to MuseBlog, if he could. I told him that the GAPAs didn’t have a way of doing that. Perhaps his trust is increasing…
Tell him that if he wants to donate, buy you stuff from here.
Yes, tell him! My mom got me a HPB tote bag that is the perfect size to hold my flute, sheet music, etc.
Thanks! I told him, and he said “Not right now.” Which means “I’ll look into it when I have the time” Which means “Yes”
What do you see as my avatar? It should be a picture of Saturn infested with HPBs, but I still see my old one.
I see the picture you describe. *shudders*
So it’s just my computer, then.
One day I was looking at some space pictures on the computer while thinking about HPBs, and then those two things collided. My avatar is the result.
Clear your cache and you should be able to see your avatar.
*hates the fact that she’s using nested comments* *dies*
196- We’re having our own version of it for people on MB that couldn’t make it to the real one, or want to do it again ’cause they’re crazy, in February. (More info here) (Hope the link works. If not, it’s 238 on this year’s NaNo thread.)
February? I was hoping it would be January. More vacation.
I think February was decided on since Axa and Jadestone still had college applications up until the middle of January. Or something.
Anyway, since it’s unofficial, you can choose your own goal. I’m probably going to try to write a thousand words a day. Shouldn’t be too hard, and my parents probably wouldn’t be thrilled if I tried to do another NaNo.
Well, Maths Lover had fun today. She went to (the mall) and bought some embroidery threads for her wall hanging. She did some other things, then she used her (the bookstore) giftcard to get a book. Guess what it was. Yep, New Moon. Hmm, if I lost IQ points after reading Twilight, and there’s four of them, I’m well on my way to turning into Mr Joe. *checks* Only I still like math and choklit and MuseBlog, so I don’t have to change my gravatar to
yet. Which is good, because SR is using Mr Joe. Oh yes, and I rambled like this before I read Twi… *clicks submit*
Goooooooooooood morning!!!!!! Rise and shine!!!!! I don’t know what else to saaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New Years Eve! There’s a blue moon tonight!
My family and I going to some family friend’s house, and a bunch of people are invited, including a friend I know from school!
I’m too wiped out to even try to stay up tomorrow night.
SFTDP I meant tonight.
LBK, your avatar is really really cute!!
Thank you! Is it the one with the cat licking itself? Because I can stil see my old avatar.
Oh, that’s what it is. I thought it was a picture of a kitten in a straitjacket.
*evil laughter* Well, now it’s an evil cat!!! *more evil laughter*
I… there’s no more. None. Nothing. It’s over. I’ve seen it all. There’s nothing more to see now.
Firefly.
*feels the same about Andromeda*
A lot of the episodes have pointes, so when you watch them the second time they aren’t as funny/awesome/cool/amazing as before.
Aw…
Alas. I felt the same way when I finished it. Have you watched Serenity yet, though?
*has no idea what you’re talking about*
Yes.
I’m afraid I found Serenity a letdown after Firefly. The Reavers were better at a distance, and many of the plot strands (and characters) weren’t wrapped up satisfactorily, to my mind.
Speaking of characters, they’re the main reason I like to watch some episodes over again. Who could ever see enough of Kaylee or Jayne?
True enough about Serenity, but I still enjoyed it on its own terms. Although it should be said that I watched the entire series in a matter of days, which is a completely different experience from watching it develop over time from week to week.
Well, I saw Serenity before I’d even heard of Firefly, so I enjoyed it thoroughly, although I agree that it wasn’t nearly as good when I watched after having finished Firefly–things seemed confused and didn’t quite fit. -deep sigh- I wish they had made more Firefly. I might have to go rewatch all the episodes now and I really haven’t time.
I agree, Reavers aren’t nearly as terrifying when shown in detail, as in the movie. I realize that Whedon wanted to tie up as many loose ends as possible, as this was his only chance to do so, but I think he made too many changes at once, some of them very unnecessary.
I really despise the Fox network. They cancel Firefly before it can even finish its first season, they continue to take in and then cancel Futurama…
I’m exhausted…My three best friends (including London Eyes, who hasn’t posted in a while) came over for a slumber party last night. All we did was watch YouTube videos and laugh ourselves silly. Search “iPod human” on YouTube and you’ll see what I’m talking about. And tonight’s New Year’s Eve! Happy New Year, everyone!
♥ Nigahiga. Search “The big bouncing inflatable green ball”.
Oh. My. Gosh. That’s hilarious!!!!

Yeah, I love that one. “And for the really daring, throw it at this potato! Ungh…potato…” Also, Childrensbop.
So I’m writing an essay on the causes of the Civil War, and somehow I hit upon the analogy of a scary story, which actually works better than you’d think. “In truest horror-story fashion, residents of the Southern states wondered if, by ratifying the Constitution, they had cursed themselves to misfortune and inferiority.”, “William Lloyd Garrison called for the horror of slavery to be eliminated, not with wooden stakes and silver bullets, but with legal action and violence if necessary.”, “It would seem that the Compromise of 1850 had answered this editorial writer’s wishes, but like any good monster from a tale of horror, it would rise again to bedevil the nation.”
Notice that this was several months before “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” was published.
Wow, I am just gifted at making posts that look funny in retrospect.
*frantically reviews KaiYves’s posts for references to race horses to bet on and stocks to buy*
Do we get a new year’s thread? Just saying, if there was to be such a place upon which to celebrate, perhaps now would be an appropriate time to create it, no?
I watched V for Vendetta last night, very good movie. Why did I not watch it before? *sigh*
Sledding today, it snowed last night. Well, sledding and a few snowball fights, which was fun. I haven’t had a proper time of throwing snow into someone else’s face and trying to shove it down their collar like that for awhile.
Very nice.
A good end to the year, I think. Though I cannot believe that it’s almost 2010, where does the time go? It used to seem that a year was such a huge period of time, and it still feels like that to some extent, but it seems a lot shorter nowadays. I must be getting old, that’s the only explination.
And I wonder when our luggage is going to get here. Grrrr. It was supposed to get here today. :L
See the Jan. 2008 issue of Muse for a scientific reason why.

So, the only issue of Muse Pseudo and I own being the fateful Tiffany and Laney editorial one, I reread their letter and came to a conclusion:
Tiffany and Laney are NOT real.
They are Musers, and probably DID receive the subscription from their grandma, but love Muse. Or else why would they go to the trouble of writing a letter to it? And the tone just seems completely insincere. Probably the work of Musers conducting an experiment to see how everyone would jump to the defense of their favorite magazine!
Hmmm… What I want most from Musery Loves Company would certainly be the dark “I Beg To Differ” T-Shirt. Or the H&H mug.
I like all of the HPB stuff.
232.1~ If that’s the article I’m thinking of, then it was a very good one.
Musery loves Co., ah, good stuff that. If I had my way the majority of my wardrobe would consist of things from MLC and ThinkGeek. *sigh* I can dream, can’t I?
Of course, we wish everyone’s wardrobe was majority MLC.
So do we.
(Why did we just start using the royal “we”?)
Actually, I was speaking in a normal “we.”
Perhaps Enceladus realized that and was questioning why Enceladus was using the royal “we”, while still speaking in said “we”.
I suspect that’s what they, I mean he, had in mind.
Yes, it is what we meant.
Happy 2010, everyone! Some of you (such as those in New Zealand and Singapore) have already passed midnight, some of you (such as Luna in Alaska) won’t for another ten hours. Regardless, happy new year everyone!
I’ll talk to everyone again next year, on the January Random thread…but for now I must rush to finish college applications before January 1st.
I’m such a terrible procrastinator. Museblog must not be allowed to distract me!
Greetings from the future, o fellow MBers!
‘Tis the year 2010, only two years from the end of the world. I’ve done Beigließen; I got a Tsunami (with a dolphin on top and a dead surfer and box under the water), a piece of ocean and a staute that either could be a person working a bed of flowers (symbolizing that I’ll work but enjoy it-yeah right) or a rock in the sea with a dragon twisted around it and several seagulls on top.
How fares the New Year, O advanced one?
Hmm… I ate all the chips, mom & L. ate the M & Ms and I sort of ate everything else, but we still have chocolate and marzipan! *celebrates*
Ah! A future of joy and plenty (of chocolate, anyway). That’s good to know.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been enjoying tonight’s blue moon (second full moon of the month).
Also I will be 18, a legal adult, in a little over 5 hours. Curious, very curious.
To celebrate, I will probably continue to work on college applications.
Although I will be taking a break sometime soon to watch the Transformers II DVD I got for x-mas. Hm.
Hello Musers of the future!
It’s only 4:47 where I am!
AM or PM?
PM, i assume.
Yes, PM.
