Europe came late to kite-flying, no mention of them is made there until the 16th century CE. Meanwhile, the Chinese had been flying kites since the 4th or 5th century BCE. They served many uses besides entertainment, from military technology to meditation. Some played music. Some featured animals with eyes, paws, or tails that moved. We’ll have just enough time to catch a quick glimpse of these high-flying kites as we sail through the last day of February’s Random thread.
(Users’ Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)
(*o*) Flamablamatastical picture!
So Bo can fly.
In one Kokopelli & Company long ago, she jumped over the moon.
I’ve only been subscribing for a year.
Oooh, sweet! I love the pic, Lady B!
In other news: twilight movie, or rather, New Moon:
Oh dear god, I thought it couldn’t possibly be worse than the hours spent reading the books. Thirty minutes in, I wanted to shoot myself–I mean, really, that was the slowest two hours of my life, organic chemistry lab (which is dull as can be) is more interesting!
And less than five minutes in, before the dream sequence it starts with was even over, Alan and I got yelled (well, whispered really pissily) at: “Can you guys be quiet please–or leave?”
Yeah…..Probably would have been ill advised to scream “Pedophile” when Jacob came on, considering that everytime he came on, half of the girls in the theatre (there were only a couple dozen people, total, maybe 3 guys, my lab partner included) would start squeeing and tittering excitedly, like he was something really uber awesome. I mean, really, he’s not that hot. Sure, he’s got decent looks, but not “OMG, OMG, OMG so beautiful” looks. I mean, for goodness sake, he looks like a bloody girl with that long black hair pulled back in a pollyanna! And maybe I’m just weird and don’t go in for girly guys, but….Wow. Not that incredibly awesome looking.
And everytime we had a half-naked werewolf, more squeeage. The best part? When one of the girls got up and walked down toward the front of the theatre where some girls were still fairly loudly tittering over Jacob, and told them to shut up. Or I think that’s what she said, because she made some motion to indicate that we in the back of the (admittedly rather small) auditorium could hear them….Maybe she’s Team Edward.
But, really, Jacob’s not that bloody special, Bella’s a bloody idiot, especially the Bella character in the movie (and the girl’s acting sucks), and…..yeah. And this one girl behind me, when Jacob asks Bella what she’s staring at, very audibly says: “You’re beautiful face?” I snorted so loud, because, really, not that beautiful. At all. And then later, when Bella says to Jacob (referring to his temperature): “You’re so hot” the same girl goes “Yes you are!” *crazy fangirl giggling* I mean, really, you all know how big a fan of HP/DW/TW all that stuff I am, but….I’ve never done the whole fangirly giggle like an immature idiot thing. Never. I mean, maybe in the privacy of my own dorm room I’ve drooled a bit over some of the hot guys on DW/TW or Buffy (think Spike, here), but in a public location and HP movie? Definitely not. Why are the twilight freaks so very weird and different?
And then at the end, when Edward was pledging his love and devotion to Bella, i swear one if not more of the girls were actually crying. I mean, it wasn’t that well written, or emotional, or anything, and certainly not any sort of tear inducing thing…..Maybe they were Team jacob, again.
Yeah. Organic lab is actually going to seem *fun* after this. Which is really saying something. I mean, it was honestly the most painful and slow two hours of my life. *sigh* Never again. Honestly, never again.
Sure, I’ve seen better than Jacob, but are you telling me there was no squeeage over Edward? As for the crying at the end– *backs away slowly*
In other news- pretty picture!
No squeeage over Edward. At least no noticeable squeeage. The two girls up near the front, though, every time Jacob came on….I think they would have ripped my throat out had I said anything nasty about Jacob.
Really? I’ve got to go witness this for myself. Also I’ve got to actually watch Buffy and read a lot of Anne Rice books and watch Bela Lugosi rock on. Already read Dracula and loved it, by the way. Against mind-control, great looming Transylvanian castles, child-kidnapping undead servants of Satan, and pissed-off thwarted fiances, sparkling FAILS. Though hey, who knew sneaking in through maidens’ bedroom windows had a historical precedent? Only Stoker doesn’t pretend that it’s romantic, hem hem.
It’s been so long since I read Dracula. Like, at least 9 years. Maybe 10. But, yes, better than twilight.
I am feeling your pain, Luna. Also, I agree with you about Taylor Lautner ( Jacob ). His nose is funny shaped.
I went with a friend with the purpose of laughing at it, and came out um, extraordinarily annoyed that I had to pay to waste two hours of my life. It wasn’t funny like twilight was. I’m not even going to see eclipse of breaking dawn.
I’m just glad I only spent one dollar…..Not too big a deal money wise, but time wise….Yeah, that was a huge waste. Never watching twilight or the remaining movies.
I actually really want to see the other movies. How could the movie of twilight possibly be worse than the book, after all?
Luna-Wow. That must’ve been horrible. How did you get talked into seeing it again?
Really awesome picture, GAPAs! But would those shapes be aerodynamic…?
They’re Muses; they get away with a lot.
Feather does look a lot happier to be up there than Bo seems to be.
Oddly enough, there was no “talking me into it involved”. While working on our organic chem post lab, my lab partner and I got distracted at one point (hahaha, more than one point) and I somehow got to ranting about twilight and how much it sucked. He said something like, “wanna go see New Moon? It’s on tonight. Only a dollar.” I just sorta looked at him and basically said, “Hell, no.”
Then a couple hours later when he left (after we still had managed not to get anything more done…..), he said something like, “So, you sure you won’t want to go see New Moon? I’m kind of curious to see how bad it is…..” And for whatever reason, decided, “Oh, sure, what the hell……” and sentenced myself to a couple hours of sheer torture.
Did you laugh at how bad it was, like me and Pseudo would have if we were together seeing it? If I were to have seen the movie, I would have been laughing like crazy at all those creepy girls you spoke about in that long comment about the movie up there. I probably would have gotten kicked out too, now that I think about it. So for everybody else sake, I don’t think I’m ever going to see that movie.
I was laughing at the laughably bad bits, but so much of it was beyond laughably bad in the painfully bad zone…..And the pacing! god, was the pacing slow….
Yes, that’s probably true. Like when Pseudo and I saw 2012… at the parts where everyone else was gasping in fright, we burst out laughing. It was quite funny. Being in a movie theatre with us is not something you want to do, unless you’re an MBer. Also when P_M, Pseudo, and I saw Sherlock Holmes, we spent the whole time shouting things like “verbal irony” and things Ms. R. (evil English teacher for those of you who don’t know) infected our brains with.
Oh, gods, you did not want to be in the same theatre as me when I saw Sherlock Holmes… See the movie thread for further details. I love wathcing movies in the theatre. It’s so fun!
Is that the time you jumped off the trashcan?
Yes, yes it was. And it wasn’t a trashcan, it was a display platform. But trivial details aside, that was probably one of the proudest moments of my life.
I actually enjoyed 2012, despite the fact that it was totally unrealistic…..
Yeah. We enjoyed it to. It was also possibly the fact that we were annoying everyone else in the theatre.
Wow! Cool picture!
Love the picture!
I’ve been watching old Pixar movies again.
*giddly walks around quoting finding nemo*
Wall-E was genuis.
Finding Nemo is my favorite movie!
Please tell me the both of you have seen The Incredibles.
-A
I’ve seen it! *raises hand*
Ugh, I hate both Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. *shudders* I think it’s just because when I saw them both for the first time (especially with Finding Nemo), I was going through my infamous stage where everything in the world terrified me.
I’m not a huge fan of either of them…I’m not really a huge fan of any animated films/cartoons, though in general. Incredibles does have pretty good graphics though, and the first time I saw Finding Nemo I saw it in Spanish…
So I had to watch it again, in English, of course.
I absolutely love the picture. It is now going to become the thing that goes on your desktop that isn’t the screen saver thing.
Re Silver Lining and HG2G movie: Would you suggest I see it? Being me and all?
I am replying to post #226 and replies from previous thread:
Greetings letterboxers, muggles*, and geocachers!
I am a geocacher and I do know of letterboxing, but I prefer geocaching because:
+ I’m not as interested in the stamps as I am in the GPSs.
+ I like playing with GPS devices, using their cool features, and knowing what my coordinative difference is.
+ But mainly I like going to a definite coordinate and thinking about how the hider would hide the container* in the surroundings (a city, a hiking trail in the woods, a public park), how I would have hidden the container in these surroundings, and what the interesting spots there are to hide a container at the location.
I wonder if the any of the GAPAs have ever tried letterboing and/or geocaching?
TNLNSL,
Zinnober 9
Notes:
* “Muggles” is the nickname for the non-geocachers, borrowed from (yes, Luna, you are correct) Harry Potter.
*All containers have something to write on, whether it be a scroll of paper (for micros) or a notebook (for everything larger than a micro).
Ooh, geocaching. We used to do that all the time. Now we’re too busy….
I have a kitteh on my lap… She’s so cute and fuzzy! *fuzzes kitteh*
Anyway. Yes, I would suggest you see it, Keiffer. I personally liked it, but they messed up the order of some things. By the way, I LOVE the new picture, Lady B!
To Luna: Ouch. I’m sorry it sucked so.
To the GAPAs: Is it possible to change your MB account’s email address? Because my Gravatar is with my old email address.
Now the kitteh is snoring… What a cute wittle kitteh!
Silver Lining: You can change the e-mail address by editing your profile. Start by clicking on your name above the comment box at the bottom of the thread.
Thank you!
Aww…. Kitties are wonderful. I have two. They are infinitely cute, and then some.
As are mine. What are yours named? Mine are Sophie O’Shea and Shadow. Unfortunately, though, I’m allergic to Shadow’s fur, so I can’t be around her too much.
I also have two kitties! At the kokon we will the Two Kitteh Krew! Mine are named Arlecchino (the boy) and Franceschina (the girl). They are adorably cute. (And then some). We usually call them Arlo and Frances, because those are much shorter.
Mine are called Robin and Tuck. They look nearly the same, but Tuck looks a lot more frightened than Robin, and is skinnier. Robin’s the social one. His train of thought goes:
1) Can I see you? If so:
2) Do you have hands? If so:
3) Pet me!
Tuck’s more like:
1) Have I met you before? If so:
2a) Eek! Run!
If no:
2b) Eek Run!
Those are the cutest names ever! *squee**hugs kittehs* Tuck sounds just like Shadow.
Sophie’s train of thought is like:
Ew. Look. A human. How disgusting. Pet me if you must, human, or I shall be forced to meow and look disgusted the whole time you’re here.
Yay. I like the Two Kitteh Krew!
Guess what Piggy wants to kill today! It’s…. THIS CAKING CAMCORDER! And as an added bonus, Sony decided that now is the perfect time to do maintenance work on their help/support material. And when is the documentary due? That’s right, tomorrow!
T_T
Urgh. How fun. *gives choklit*
Oww.
That doesn’t sound very fun.
*choklit*
Beautiful picture as always, Lady B. I especially love the kites.
The texture of all of the pictures from China have such an authentic, realistic look to them. Great job!
Luna – Oh my gosh, I know exactly what you mean. I hope you got out of there in one piece. Thankfully I narrowly avoided the torture of seeing new moon, but I did watch twilight…disaster. I can only imagine how much worse new moon must have been, with Jacob in almost every scene I heard. Ok, so Jacob is fairly decent looking, I can admit that much…but definitely not worth so much squeeage over.
In 5th grade it was Zac Efron, 6th grade Taylor Lautner, and 7th grade a combination of Taylor Lautner and Justin Beiber. When will the madness end? I only know of this because I’m forced to sit with a group of annoying squee-age obsessing girls who love twilight and everything related to it at lunch. Ick.
Oh, you poor thing! *hugs* That would be miserable, having to sit and listen to squeeage over all (or any) of those people everyday…. *more hugs*
Thanks. *hugs back* They even have….shirtless posters…..twilight books………torture………..
Ooh! Ooh! Weird timing! I have the TV on and I’m listening to a HP commercial for the theme park in Florida. I’m going to beg my parents to let me go.
*shudder* (that’s to the twilight stuff)
HP, though, awesome.
Ew, Justin Bieber. Seriously, people, he’s not cute! Nor are any of the other people you mentioned. And he’s a terrible singer! Yet all the girls in my school are obsessed with him as well.
2 girls on my bus: Omg, Justin Bieber is SO cute!
Other girl: No, Taylor Lautner is wayyyy cuter.
Me: Freaks. GO GEORGE HARRISON!
Win, Silver Lining. And then I’d go:
Actually, I think the anthropomorphic personification of Death is the best. *wanders off*
And I’d go:
“What, Enc?!” 0-o *stares* “No, Mika’s the awesomest!”
Thank you. I need you to come to my school to say something like that to all the popular girls. The looks on their faces would be so epically priceless… *imagines* *bursts out laughing*
I CAN’T STAND JUSTIN BIEBER.
Is Justin Bieber the guy who has s freakishly high voice and sounds kind of like Lady Gaga?
When I first heard him sing, I thought he was a girl, until every body moved away from the computer screen. Then I realized he was a repulsive idiot like… that guy that was on American Idol… had black hair… uh, wasn’t a good singer? I can’t remember his name.
*gives semi-late choklit to starr*
At my school, It’s this:
#1 Go Robert Pattinson!
#2, 3, &4: Chris Pine is hotter.
#5 That guy in Star Trek?
#1 Who’s Spock?
#5 The alien guy in Star Trek.
#1 Oh. What does he look like?
—>

Me: SPOCK.
Me: Yes.
Me: He’s got pointy ears… and weird eyebrows… and he’s really hot.
Justin Bieber=a girl. I don’t care what they say. He sounds like a girl, he looks like a girl, he’s a girl. And his music just isn’t good.
Hell, be glad you aren’t living in Jonas Brothers land. Or forced to listen to constant Hannah Montana (and girls who are fourteen or fifteen and should know better who can’t sing singing along with her) three times a week for an hour and a half while trying to saute-arabesque! saute-arabesque! now plie, pirouette to the left, fourth position! saute-arabesque! now fall over because you’re terrible at ballet! and you only signed up for Dance P.E. because all the other girls were and hell, who wants PE in a class that’s 99% boys?
For as much as you all hate this Justin Bieber, you sure can’t stop talking about him.
There’s a difference between talking about someone/thing because you like en/it, and talking about en/it because you despise it. I rant about twilight all the time, but I in no way like it, and certainly wouldn’t want to listen to fangirl squeeage over it…..
As for justin beiber, I know nothing whatsoever about him, and am perfectly content with that fact.
Awesome picture, GAPAs!
Lovely picture, Lady Bunniful!
Ooh! Flammy pic! I didn’t even realize this was a new thread until I scrolled up to the top, because it’s still called Interesting Times…
Anyway: Does anyone know how to make type double spaced on Google Docs?
Format -> Document settings… -> Line-spacing:
Also, chess.
Marvelous picture Lady B!
Love the picture!
So, Friday was a snow day, which was pretty flamablamablous, except for the fact that I got food poisoning near the evening. (I ate too many cranberry raisinets.) Any time I moved, the room would spin and I would get insanely nauseous. I had to throw up twice before I could get to sleep…
Then, yesterday we went snowboarding… Bad idea. The mountain was overcrowded, and they didn’t have enough lifts working. Plus, it snowed a lot there, and the parking lots hadn’t been plowed. Feh. We did get in some nice runs though.
However, on the last one, I fell. And hit my head. Hard enough to see stars. I had to snowboard the rest of the way down, though, because I didn’t want to be carted down in one of the first aid sleds. *stubborn*
…I have no idea why I’m posting this… Huh.
If you actually read that, choklit to you!
Ugh. Food poisoning is the worst. Thanks for the choklit, by the way!
Oh….you poor thing! *hugs* That’s unlucky, the one day that you have a snow day…
*hugs back*
)
It wasn’t that bad- we had a snow day on Thursday too! Four-day weekend!
(although that means that we’ve used up all of our snow days… if it snows a lot again, we’ll have to add days on at the end of the year.
Thank you. *takes chocolate*
I love the picture.
Saw AVATAR last night (3-D IMAX) and the graphics are beautiful and, frankly, amazing. But the plot was uninspired, not BAD but not GOOD either. 90% of the movie value was in the graphics.
I liked it a lot, but having seen it in IMAX 3-D, I don’t think I’ll ever see it again…the movie is mainly the graphics, and I saw the graphics at as good as they can get.
First time I’ve ever been to a sold out movie that sold out in online pre-sales.
Ok, I know this is going to sound sort of weird…but I miss Beavo. And crazyquotescollecter. And probably a lot more people that I can’t name off the top of my head, but people who posted pretty regularly when I first came on, and have now…drifted away before I got the chance to really spend any time with them. I’m not blaming them for not coming on – at all. I understand completely. But it’s sort of a disappointment not to have gotten the chance to really get to know them as much as a I wanted. Anyone else feeling the same way?
*fades away*
No, no, I definitely agree. I miss them too.
Come back, come back…
I think everyone feels that way about their timing on MuseBlog. Even I, who has been here for two years, has felt that way about some MBers on here when I first showed up. Of course, the upside is that as long as you’re on here, you get to meet more and more new MBers as they come. It’s a bittersweet, and unavoidable sentence. As it could be put:
Don’t worry, though, I’m pretty sure you’ll get over it in time.
I miss Beavo too, as Beavo was on a lot when I first started, and his comments really (odd as this may sound) helped me…in a way that is hard to explain, especially if you didn’t read the comments and don’t know much about me, or, for that matter, Beavo. But the knowledge of his existance, and hence the existance of others similar to him, the knowledge gained from the experiances he shared with MB helped get me through a time that, for everyone’s sake, including my own, I pretend wasn’t difficult but really was.
I’m sure some of you think you know what I’m talking about, but if you don’t I’m sorry for a cryptic and, at face value, sappy post.
I’ve been here for a year and a half; not as long as some, but long enough to see people come and go. I do know what you mean. People just sort of stop posting, and then you’ll run into one of their old posts on a thread and think something like “Oh, what did happen to en? I wish en stuck around, they seemed like such a cool person…”
We all feel that way. Even on MuseBlog, death is a part of life. Musers come and Musers go, some more quickly than others. Having spent over three years here–a fifth of my life–I can’t count how many MBers I’ve seen fade into the woven beyond. But on MuseBlog, death is not as permanent as elsewhere. You never know when a face long forgotten may return. And would any now-silent Muser want to return to a threadful of people moping around and regretting the past? It would offend them to be doing anything other than throwing pies, making plans, and being Muserly. So put your feet up, have a pie, and make the most of your time here with us. The future is speeding our way–it would be a shame to miss it.
Okay. Actually, if I disappeared and all of you were moping around “mourning my death” (like I know you’d all do, because you all love me dearly
), I’d be quite honoured. But I agree, we shouldn’t spend all our time complaining/moping about other MBers who have disappeared.
I love that last line, Piggy.
Thanks, Piggy. You really made me feel better. *puts feet up* *takes some pie*
I really wish I could be on MB forever…but I doubt that’ll happen. Like you said, I don’t like to think about it, but somewhere along the way, I’m going to go. People are fickle like that. (That’s not, of course, including the GAPA’s, who I’m sure have seen much more of the coming and going than any of us can imagine.)
But like you – and others – pointed out, other people are bound to show up too, and when they do, I’ll be excited to see it happen.
So now I’ll just move on, but I was just curious about that and wondering if anybody felt the same…and I guess it’s nice to know that at least a handful of you do, so thanks to all who commented.
Like Tesseract said…beautiful last line, Piggy.
I always feel like I came to the ‘Blog at the end of an age and the beginning of a new one. You all are absolutely wonderful, but I wonder about the people whom I saw post sometimes and everyone seemed to know but who then went away while I was still a neophyte. Wonderful last line, Piggy–you’ll be quoted on that.
You watch, Beavo will post tomorrow.
Hm, I like the idea of MB being sorted into “ages”. I know it’s been done with generations, but those seem to just be based on lengths of time rather than when things change. I’d sort it myself, but I haven’t been around long enough, and reading through the old posts isn’t the same as being there.
Nice comment Piggy. It’s not only last line that is eloquent enough to be considered beautiful.
Yes… a lot of the people around when I first came aren’t here anymore… Beavo, Hypatia, etc…
I’ve spent less than two years here, but I’ve still seen a lot of people come and go… and then digging through the Random Thread Generator thing… seeing someone who was around a while ago… and wondering what happened to them… it’s a sad thing…
But Life just works this way…
I remember Hypatia! I consider her name to be one of the coolest I’ve seen yet…
*thinks of how the above posts could make a touching section of the story of the Embi family* *thinks of Percy and the Weasleys* *assures self that it would never be like that* *reads about the Beatles breakup* *cries self to sleep*
That would make a touching story… Especially Piggy.
Fortunately, MuseBlog death isn’t permanent.
D’aww, Sudo. That’s cute.
*hug*
I’m never, ever, ever going to leave MB behind. Not even when I’m a famous musician when I’m grown up.
Adding on to what Piggy said, MuseBloggers that leave only leave physically. They’re always, have been. are now, and will be here spiritually. It’s technologically impossible to spiritually leave MuseBlog. I bet every one who has left is still posting in their heads.
And some of them may still be friends with someone they originally met on MuseBlog. Or shudder when they see hot pink.
Aww. *pats on back* *hug* I always cry when I read Beatles books. In the middle of independant reading once in school, I was reading something about John, and I just started bawling. I know I care too much, but… *cries too*
I really miss Beavo. I also think it’s sad that some MBers never get to know each other because they came on at different times.
vanilla- I feel exactly the same, even thought we came on six months apart. *sigh* I suspect I was too wrapped up in my offline problems to remember much about what happened on MB then.
Well, g’night, MB! See you in March!
Okay, um, I have a random confession, and as this is the random thread, I suppose this is the right place…maybe?
I…have never actually read Muse. *cringes at audible-through-internet gasp*. I found MB through a random Google search, and didn’t know there WAS a magazine until…quite recently.
That’s fine. You seem to fit right in, and I think anyone who wasn’t rather muserly would drop off fairly soon.
I thought the GAPAs made it so you couldn’t find MB on Google…?
And, it’s no big deal if you don’t subsribe, I’m sure there’s others who don’t.
I think you just have to search a LOT and you might find it. I found Muse Academy that way ( I think ) after ze blog crashed.
I was looking up something that my teacher had mentioned in class, called the two cows problem or something, and then the only place that I found it mentioned in the same context was on MB. I thought it was really cool, but my friends and mom though y’all were a bunch of stalkers and made me give it up. I remembered it recently and now no one has any problems with it.
I think there are a lot of people on here who don’t read Muse. I myself might stop soon because… Wait, I don’t think I’ll stop soon. Nevermind.
I only started reading Muse after I started on the blog, so there will be no *gasp* from me. I don’t have a subscription either, so I steal them from the school’s library. I still have one I got back in September. I don’t think they even remember that I have it, because the magazines in the library can’t be scanned into the computer. Librarian-assistant-lady wrote it down on a sticky-note.
*blinkblinkblinkblink* You… didn’t… know… there… was… a… magazine?
….
*eats*
That’s fine by me. After all, I hardly know any Beatles songs. *is stared at in horror*
No one will really mind, I don’t think. I myself don’t read it, and hadn’t read one until about a year into my being a Museblogger. It’s really not going to be a problem.
Glorious picture, yet again Madam B.
I survived Daddy Driving School. Dad and I went out to practice parallel parking and I didn’t do to horridly.
And we went to the bookstore and poked around the classics section, always good.
And my fingers are colder than I realized.
Luna~
Your description of New Moon sounds awesome. Stupid, stupid books, and I haven’t watched the movies, nor do I intend to unless it was with friends and for the purpose or ripping it to shreds.
The guy who plays Edward doesn’t deserve squeeage. Jacob, maybe, but there are wayyyy better-looking guys out there.
I have no issue with ponytails on guys though, I kind of like it, and on the right person, it’s saliva-inducing. Well, sort of anyway.
My fingers are freezing and I can barely type. Probably lying on my back doesn’t help. Meh.
Congrats on surviving Daddy Driving School….That can turn into a nightamare, at times.
As for the movie: I don’t necessarily mind long hair on guys, it’s just on Jacob in particular it made him look a fair bit girly, in my opinion….
Great photo! Did you know that the ancient Chinese made very large kites and tied very light soliders to them, then flew the kites over battlefields to enable spying on the enemy? Needless to say, those poor kite-spies ended up as arrow-bait…
I just saw that Fishy was doing National History Day on the MuNoWriMo thread, and I didn’t want to PoPo about this over there. Anyway, what type of project are you doing? What’s it about? Maybe Pseudonym and I will see you at the competitions! (We’re not working together.) You’re not going to lose! I’m doing an exhibit with two others, on airplanes.
Sorry.
-Keiffer Lining
I don’t know where to post this, so I’ll just post it here.
I’m considering doing a literary project. It would be vignettes of scenes on a ship. Not much of a plot, just a ship of dreams. Characters would remain the same throughout, and not necessarily progressing in chronological order. Just a group of good sailors, exploring, and finding magical things. Think all the scenes of Voyage of the Dawn Treader you missed when reading the book.
Of course, I’m thinking of taking a double meaning to “vignettes” and actually making pictures, not necessarily of any specific adventure, just a still from the ship’s life.
The writing would be almost like a ship’s log, but more like a journal entries by sailors. It would not be serious, nor lighthearted, but more than recording. A dreamlike feel, with all suspension of disbelief from the crew, nothing like “I couldn’t believe when…” or “It surprised me when”. As though they expected it to happen.
Would anybody like to help me on this? It wouldn’t be very action-y, just calm and a beautiful portrait of life on a fanciful sea. I especially would like help on the graphics.
I’ll help you with it. How though, just post it on the books in progress thread? Or have your mom email my mom your email? Or what? Otherwise, I like the idea. It sounds kind of like something I did when I was in a writing club led by Ann Downer (Hatching Magic writer). It was the diary entries of two marooned kids, who led a perfectly normal life on the island they were left on.
I’ll help you write it.
Ooh. I want a part in this.
If you don’t mind…..
This sounds really awesome. Like all of your ideas.

RE: Missing people who’ve left:
I don’t really remember who all was on when I started, but I know some were. There are some people who I’ve gotten to know on here better than others, the GAPAs, Alice, Beevs, HAWK, Axa, Oxlin, Vendy, Glasseh, Grant, Kagz, Pan and THF, Luna, Piggy, Jade, those are some names that come to mind. Some I’ve met, some I’ve just talked to for a long enough time, some I recognize more than others, it’s different.
When I first started posting here I wasn’t consistent enough to really know my fellow posters as people, I just saw them as opinions, post by post. Then I’d start recognizing people, I’d realize I shared similarities with certain bloggers, I’d remember certain things about people (age, locality, interests, writing style, etc.). But now it seems like a lot of the people I know or knew have left, or I’ve just fallen out of touch. I don’t know, but it seems like I’m going back to reading post-by-post again, only recognizing some of the people that I know relatively well. That, and there’s so much bulk on the blog now, it’s hard to keep up with loads of threads, I don’t post as many places, so I don’t get to know people as filled-out individuals as much anymore.
It’s kind of disconcerting, but I still value all you posters and consider you my friends, even though I may not feel as though I know you all individually.
I hope that makes sense.
It’s sorta like being in a big city, innit? The more people there are, the less, percentage-wise, you can know. Living in a small town allows everyone to get to know each other. But living in, say, Los Angeles obviously prevents that. The bigger MB is, the less personal it is, I think.
Yet, MB is better then that. It grows as a city, yet even when you don’t remember everyone personally, it retains it’s feeling of family. You feel at home, even when you only really know three people. Right?
Note to self: it’s impossible to die from embarrassment. Unfortunately.
Let me explain: I’m the youngest in my choir, which I just had rehearsal for, as it’s made up of adults and I’m one of the only kids. I’d been hiccuping all day. It got quiet.
Can you guess what happened?…. *groan*
What was the wallpaper called that was a certain shade of green and was poisonous in humid weather and napolean may have died from it? Muse had an article on it but I can’t remember what it was called.
arsenic, I believe.
but that wasn’t the name of the paper / shade of green.
Napolean green?
Oh….Sorry, I misunderstood the question.
I’m not sure what the name of the color/wallpaper was, just that it contained arsenic…. *googles* Ummmm, Scheele’s Green, according to one hit, anyway.
RoseQuartz–I was thinking about taking over Miyuki since you pulled out of Demigod RPG, and if you could give me a general sense of what you were planning to do with her and more about her personality and character, that would be much appreciated.
