O.K., books.
Some of my favorite books are: LOTR (of course); The Chronicles of Narnia; Red Hugh, Prince of Donegal, The Screwtape Letters; The Red Keep; The Scottish Chiefs; The Outlaws of Ravenhurst; and Janice Meredith.
I know that most people have never heard of most of these books but I love all of them. I’m a bookworm.
The Belgariad. Duh.
I finished Eldest. It was good, but (surprise surprise!) more blasphemy. I am going to write Mr. Paolini a nasty letter. Really. As in, when I finish Museblog. Plagerism!
I bet I am as big a bookworm as you, Mirjana. Some of my other favorites are Year of Impossible Goodbyes, The–Guide–, 2010, Mother Ocean Daughter Sea, Narnia (even though it is theological), To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, almost all of Sharon Creech, The Wanderer and Heartbeat and Walk Two Moons especially. Also basically everything Shakespeare, The Mists of Avalon (even though it was so freaky I couldn’t finish it; depressing, too), Ender’s Game, the Little House books, Joust, LOTR, and lots, LOTS, more. I LOVE to read!
I read too many books to name all of. Something I recommend to make you paranoid and nervous is the International Spy Museum Handbook of Practical Spying. Very funny.
Do you guys read the Ender books (Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the Mind) or the Bean books after Ender’s Game (if you read them at all)?
I like many many books that I will tell you all about later as I would like to go read in bed now.^_^
I like LOTR, books by Tamora Pierce, Isaac Asimov, Agatha Christie, Kurt Vonnegut, four or so of the Narnia books, Cornelia Funke, Anne McCaffrey, etc.
So passed Phoenix.
Farewell, Phoenix.
Museblog will miss you.
goodbye
why did you have to go? *cries*
I like the Warriors series, any books by Tamora Pierce(exept i’ve read them all),The Inheritance Trilogy, The Amelia Peabody Mysteries by Elizabeth Peters, the Brother Cadfael Mysteries by Ellis Peters, the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee mysteries byTony Hillerman, books by Chaim Potok, LOTR, the HP series, the Pendragon series by DJ Machale, and the Dragonriders of Pern series by Ann McCaffrey.
Ok, I 2 be continued….n_n
Namarie, Phoenix. Calo anor na ven.
wow…books and movies…this is going to be a loooong post. ok then…books
lotr, harry potter, Ivanhoe, anything by douglas adams, pride and prejudice, Inkheart, the Thief Lord, Oliver Twist, the princess bride, the hornblower series, anything by mark twain, yaddah yaddah i’m gonna shut up now cuz if i kept this up I’d be here all night.
Movies
monty python and the holy grail (NI!!!)
the princess bride
the adventures of robin hood (yay!!! cheesy old errol flynn!!)
the mark of zorro (1940 version)
LOTR
POTC
National Treasure
and the list goes on…
so where’s phoenix going??
BYE PHEONIX!!! You should come back and visit!!! I will miss you!!!! Namarie!!! Waah….
Books I lilke: The Belgariad, The Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials, The Wind Singer(and the rest of that trilogy), The Blue Sword, The Hero and the Crown etcetera etcetera more later when I think of them…
Speaking of trilogies, has anyone read C. S. Lewis’s “Perelandra” books? They’re called Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. Harder to find nowadays than the Narnia series, but libraries should have them.
Also, have you seen the trailer for the Narnia movie coming out in December?
Oops i forgot to mention Madeline L’Engle is a good author to.
Ebeth-Did you know that Inkheart has a sequel, Inkspell? Inkheart is going to be made into a movie sometime……….
yeah, I read out of the silent planet, and it was good. Haven’t read the others, though.
ooh sequels. fun fun. hey speaking of sequels does anybody know if gone with the wind has a sequel? i’m too lazy to look it up (when i remember) but i think there must be one unless the author just wrote that ending to be evil. It’s a good book, but i really did not like the ending.
I have all 3 of those books, and i’ve read the first one..sort of…ish, but i didn’t like it much. It might’ve had something to do w/the fact i was so little i couldn’t really understand it…maybe i’ll try them again.
hey elasse-adael, why do you like his dark materials? I mean, ok, I liked the first one a lot. But the second one i thought was bad, and the last one was worse. no diss or anything, just wondering.
help i’m running out of things to say…yes once again the purpose is procrastination. you should make a procrastinators thread so we can all come on and put in random comments and complaints against the evils of homework and the terrible knowledge that we’ll have to do it sometime or another. that really has nothing to do w/ books…oh well.
oh yah madeline l’engle’s good too. actually i didn’t like her books at first and then i read them again a couple years later and loved them…i am now absolutely convinced to go dig up the c.s. lewis books now.
yes rambling on again, that’s me ramblerambletypetypeblahblahblah.
oh yes one more thing has anybody seen the old narnia movies? if you haven’t, don’t. they’re really bad. I spent the whole night in happy mocking laughter. I hope the new one’s better, it probably will be. speaking of which, i’m gonna shut up now and go watch the trailer for that. oh the joys and wonders of the internet, and the complete easiness of procrastination online….absolutely flamablamablous.
oh wait one more thing, just one, i promise, but who else is obssessed w/ old 1930s movies?? yay errol flynn! anyhoo, i was cracking up all through history today there’s a nice long line of pics of the random presidents throughout history and as i looked around the room i saw…..our tenth president. the picture was so funny he looked exactly like basil rathbone (if you don’t know who that is be glad that you retain your sanity at least a little bit) and it was really funny. ok now i read that and it sounds really lame. i suppose you had to be there. I’m gonna go ahead and post it anyway cuz i’m really bored. you don’t have to read it. (yeah that’s nice of me-you plow through this whole thing and then at the END i tell you it’s not important-nice) now i’m really gonna shut up and get going.
Farewell Phoenix. We will miss you.
I hate the Outsiders, Harry Potter (ow! PAX!) and the Silmarillion. (It’s unreadable. I kid you not. I’m a Tolkien Liberal.) I also heart the Amelia Peabody series, Redwall, Frans de Waal, James Herriot (English vet series), Alan King, Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss, Kenneth Grahame, Roz Chast, and C. Paolini. Unfortunately, my quest to find the Belgariad continues.
My favorite movie is You’ve Got Mail, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I also like The Importance of Being Earnest (version with Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson and Frances O’Connor), plus Desk Set (Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn), and Who Wants to Marry A Millionaire, The Pirates of Penzance (version with Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt, Rex Smith(who’s really cute in this), George Rose, Patricia Routledge, and Tony Azito).
OK, I’m finished checking everything.
Harry Potter??? You hate Harry Potter??? I’m in shock!
*ebeth sits at the keyboard in shock* Can you give me reasons please so I can spend hours denying them in a long 50 page essay? lol! but seriously, what’s wrong with hp?
yes the sil is unreadable, but I love it anyway. Once you can plow through it a couple times, you figure out what to read and what to skip and what to scan through and it’s great.
hmm…my last post didn’t get posted. not suprised (it’s no loss peoples-just random ramblings) but i’m gonna repeat a couple things here. Let’s see if I can keep this one short!
ok…blahblah…who’s read gone w/ the wind? is there a sequel? or was there supposed to be one? strange ending, that book.
more ramblings…liked the golden compass, didn’t like the other 2 dark materials…l’engle’s good…gonna try the perelandra ones again…who’s obssessed w/1930s movies? (yes! errol flynn!) who thinks basil rathbone was our 10th pres? yes crazy I know…I’ve seen pics where they look exactly the same.
wow that was some summarizing! woohoo! probably because this post isn’t for the purpose of procrastinating (yes i actually finished my hw). hey you admins should try not accepting my posts more often! this is way shorter. but still long. wow. the curse of rambling on…*sigh*
Yay Pheebs, someone finally has heard of that series. I’ve read all the books up to the one i’m reading now, Seeing a large cat. The main character’s personality totally demolishes Amelia Bedelia and clears my good name. n_n
I like books by Madeleine L’engle and Patricia C. Wrede as well. The Belgariad is a series of five books starting with Pawn of Prophecy. They are by David Eddings. His other stuff isn’t good though so don’t read it. I also like books by Mercedes Lackey. I haven’t finished the Silmarilion yet. ChinTsu- What is the Amelia Peabody series like? what is the first book’s title? Who are they by? are you named Amelia? It is an awesome name.
Eric Idle’s “The Road to Mars.” Not recommended for those under 15.
Hehe i was wrong. Tamora Pierce has a really knew book that is the sequel to the Chircle Opens quartet. I also like the Guardians of Gahoole series by Kathryn Lasky.
ooh has it come out yet? I keep forgetting to check her site..
I liked the His Dark Materials series, and stuff.. Gone with the wind i think has a sequel written by another person..
The harry potter books, at least the first ones, just aren’t written that well..
I don’t really watch very many movies (I get scared easily) but I like Marx Brothers, Muppet Show, and the Beatle’s movies.. I actually like Help the best, better than Hard Day’s Night, and I haven’t seen Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine is cool.. I’m sort of obsessed with the Beatles…
the beatles rock! woohoo! go lizzie! *high five*
actually I’ve never seen their movies, but I love the music.
has anybody read the dirk gently books? I just read the first one. It was ok, but it wasn’t funny. I expected it to be more like the hitchiker’s guide books. but douglas adams still rocks! (plus he’s british. britishers are cool. don’t ask why, they just are)
oh yah one more thing, why is the belgariad that everybody’s rambling about never where i am? I can’t find it anywhere! it drives me crazy cuz i see his other stuff and i read the front cover “other books-the belgariad, book one, blahblahblah” but i never see the stupid first book! grr…it must be october. everything’s jinxed. lol!
yay, I’m glad I’m not the only one.. who’s your favorite Beatle? do you have one?
Is one of them (Dirk Gently books) the one with that girl and Thor and the lightposts going out and the train station with the party of the gods and all of that good stuff? And no, I’m not talking about the one that’s sort of like that in the Hitchhikers trilogy.
Ooo, ebeth, that’s baaad. I got mine in Borders, but they also have it in my Barns&Noble. I know this dosn’t nessesarily mean they have it at yours, but if you can’t find it look on ebay.
I didn’t like Dirk Gently, but I like THGTTG.
RINGO STARR!!!! at the risk of sounding like a deranged fangirl, he tooooooooooooooooooottttttttaaaaallllyyyyy rrroooocccccckkkksss!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love his accent!
yeah the Thor thing was in the first one. i dunno about the party of the gods thing, it’s probably in the second one cuz I haven’t read that one yet.
actually my mom’s getting scared cuz today my brother got a b-day ecard from my cousin that said something about hoping he had the happiest b-day ever, and i started rambling on about how depressing that is cuz that means that that’s it and he can never hope for a happier b-day cuz he knows that this was the happiest one and other random comments about time traveling and stuff like that. and then i just stopped and thought about what i said and suddenly realized the effect of reading 6 books and one random collection of stuff from douglas adams, all within a month. scary stuff. kinda funny though. wow i’ve been rambling for a while again now. I’ll go write long comments for everything else on the site now.
Ringo? The little one with the big nose? Really? I had a mad crush on him when I was three- I went around the house banging on a pair of oatmeal canisters pretending they were drums.
My favorite now is George- I like his songs, and his eyebrows.
Which is “the long dark tea-time of the soul”? I’m pretty sure the one I have is “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective agency.”
I like the Schubert Cello Quintet a lot; I played it at summer camp two years ago.
Maybe we should have a music thread?
the long dark tea-time of the soul is the second one. the one i haven’t read. grr…i’m going to go procrastinate on the procrastination thread now…
weee… I just figured out Xenos’ Paradox! really! lets see if anyone else has gotten it…
(hint: it deals with the the dimensional theories)
also, using Shroedingers’ discoveries, I worked out how living organisms can teleport! It is just a theory, because we don’t know enough about quantum mechanics to pull it off, but it’s a start…
uh, why did I put this under books & movies?
maybe because there isn’t a dimensional theories teleporting quantum mechanics thread…what is xeno’s paradox anyway? never heard of it…
Here it is: picture this- a__________b
say you start at point a, and start to walk to point b.eventually, you will be in the exact middle, or pint c. now it looks like this: a____c____b
you keep walking ’till you are halfway between your former halfway point, c, and your destination, b. Now you are on point d:
a__c__d__b.
If you keep walking, you will keep making new center points, right? But since numbers and fractions are infinate, there will always be more center points, so theoretically you should NEVER get to point b. But obviously real life dosn’t work like this, so how can this be true? a paradox is when two know facts conflict-and Xenos’ is my favorite. See if you can solve it.
That’s Zeno’s paradox, Ms. P., named after the ancient Greek philosopher Zeno of Elea. Others can find good explanations of it (warning! with spoilers!) at mathacademy.com and mathforum.org.
This doesn’t have much to do with books or movies, though. Any chance of moving the discussion to the October open thread?
–Robert
sorry. It is common knowlage that I can’t spell. Just one more clue to solve it, please?
here is the clue: Paradoxes do not exist.
O.K., now a movie question: has anybody seen “The Corpse Bride”?
nope never seen it. what’s it about?
sounds yuchy. and scary. and generaly unpleasant. No, thankee.
It’s Tim Burton’s latest animated feature, and the reviews say it’s surprisingly touching and sweet. I never wholly trust reviews, though, and was hoping some Musers had seen it.
OK: Favorite books: Way too many to mention. A lot of them are already up here, but I didn’t see The Naming (by Alison Croggon I think), which is kinda ripped off from LOTR, but is awesome anyway, or Tithe (Holly Black), which is about scary modern faeries (perfect for October), 1984, which I adore but is so freaky-cool that I don’t expect anyone else to, Dune, even though I’m only halfway through it, almost anything by Terry Pratchett, other stuff that I am forgetting at the moment. I’ll probably remember at odd hours of the night and post ’em then.
What series? Circle of Magic? Circle Opens? Circle Reforged?
what’re those? never heard of them. I’m guessing they have something to do w/ circles…
the circle reforged? does that start with The Will of the Empress?
Oh, and did someone mention Amelia Peabody in their favorite books? I love those, but I’ve only read, like, one. Most of my exposure to them comes from the fact that my mom listens to them on tape alot. Anyway, my random comments are over!
Yo everone, didn’t read all the comments bot decided to leave a random message anyway!
My favorite book of all time is, as my name implies, Anne of Green Gables. Also, does anyone out there read Dickens or Austen? They are so funny! Yeah, I know, I’m a freak, but any other freaks like meout there?
As far as movies go, I like Gladiator, Cinderella Man (Yay! Go Russel Crowe!) Forest Gump and The Patriot. Also, I forgot to mention Horatio Hornblower. (Thanks for doing that article about him awhile back, Muse! I loved it!)
Anyway, I have to do my math before my mom freaks out. (I’m home-schooled) See ya later!
omg dickens is soooo funny! forgot about him. (yah i know. terrible crime)
about austen-I LOOOOOOVED Pride and Prejudice, but the other ones get kinda boring towards the middleish-end (in my esteemed opinion. wait-i’m esteemed? wow. cool. amazing. oh wait never mind. that was a typo.)
I read out of the silent planet today. (yah it took a while but i had to find it first) better than I remembered! another huzzah for RC!!!
The first Circle Reforged book is out?
MUST_GO_BUY…
I like Circle of Magic and Circle Opens, as well as Protector of the Small, The Immortals, and Song of the Lioness.
Wow, someone else out there likes Dickens? *sound of fainting* All of my friend think I’m al total wierdo! Sorry I cut into whatever conversation ya’ll had going, but I’ve never blogged before and I’m unaware of the Etiquite. If I commit some horrible crime, just ignore it.
And what was up with that comment about Austen getting boring at some point?!? How could anyone who is blogging about books and who likes Charles Dickens say such a thing?!??! But I guess ebeth did say she loved Pride and Prejudice, so I guess I can overlook it
But, ya’ll were talking about something. What is Circle Reforged? I’ve never heard of it.
w/Austen it’s only the middle endish place where you’ve figured out who’s ending up w/who and all that’s left is the proposals and weddings and such. i dunno, i just don’t like those bits much.
ok hang on having images here. are the circle books those nice fat ones w/the red+gold and all or are those something different? I saw some type of circle series, never read them though.
my must_go_buy (heehee! stealing randomrohanfreak’s quote) is ELDEST!!!! I still haven’t read that! *slap* BAD EBETH!! normally that would be a terrible crime and I would have to burn myself at the stake for it. eek. haven’t been to a bookstore recently though. arrrrrrrrgh…hoom well ending my ramblings now in favor of early din-dins. very hungry. anyhoo later!
It’s by Tamora Pierce. And I must go buy it.
I like Austin, never read Dickens..
I like Terry Pratchet!!!
How could somone never have read Dickens? I am hopelessly disillusioned with the world. I shall crawl under a rock and never come out into the cruel world where some people have never read Dickens, and some people think that Austen novels are any less fascinating after it becomes clear who is going to marry who. *sniff* Okay, I got a grip. Sorry about that!
Well I’m signing off for now (not that you asked or anything.) but I’ll be back, it’s so much fun to blog with random people! I can’t believe I’ve never done it before. Ah, that little dude is so, totally awesome!
MEMEMEMEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!*waves hand in the air*
I luv Amelia Peabody! Cause my first name’s Amelia(but u know that)That and the books are just plain spiffin! I’ve read about 10!
lol
Has anyone seen the movie Lagaan? Great soundtrack. Those Indians(from India) really know how to dance.
finished Eldest a long time ago *does happy dance*
Yo books and movies people, in cae you didn’t see the thing in writing, I am now the official Queen of Museblog, and because I’m the only one on here, no one is going to protest!
Okay, What’s my first official act as Queen MontgomerGurl? Well first I declare that it be said by all that Dickens is the greatest guy ever, and that Austen novels are still facinating, even after it becomes clear who is going to marry whom. Also, all you Musres who call yourselfs readers must read P.G. Wodehouse! He wrote all the Jeeves and Wooster stuff, which is so funny that my majesty almost squirted milk out of my majesty’s most eteemed nose. All right, Once that order is accomplished I will give some more
(To be read in a very sweet and sappy tone of voice).
Do not worry Musers, I won’t be a bad queen. I shall be fair, and just, and wise and…..What?? What did you say to me?!!?? You think P.G. wodehouse isn’t funny!!!!!!! Guard, Off with his head!!!! *sound of agonized scream* There, now what was I saying? Oh yes, …and I shall be kind, and loving to the Musers under me, and I will always be loved by all! (I had better be!!!)
hey just so you know…i take bribes. choklit good. sugar gooood. if you need a loyal subject to do your bidding…well…how much choklit you got?
oh yah i started perelandra. out of the silent planet was goood…better than the narnia ones (i didn’t really like those all that much..AAAH!!! don’t kill me! I’m already under attack from the Queen!)
oh yah and who wants to do book/movie comparing and stuff? that’s fun. wheee! except most of what i do on those types of things is rant about how much movie people mess books up and how eeeevil PoA was for spelling moony wrong…cuz now everybody spells it mooney and it drives me crazy…and how Lotr was sooooo evil to faramir…he’s one of my fav characters…and ok i’ll shut up now cuz i can go on for hours…so anybody want to rant w/me? plz? it would make me feel loved…
um..hey…erm…montgomerygurl? *ahem* queen montgomerygurl? uh…um…eh….who is p.g. wodehouse?
*flees in terror after rigging up complex telephone system so she can hear montgomerygurl’s answer*
Yes! Willl Of The Empress! I just finished it! I was a little surprised that Tamora would bring the whole Dajathing up… I thought she might just sorta keep quite on that issue. Won’t mention anything here, gotta keep the board family friendly.
I ADORE WODEHOUSE BOOKS! WOOSTER AND JEEVES ARE MY HEROES!
Okay loyal subjects, your Queen has returned! * Queen’s theme music plays* Alright Phoebe, you may be the almighty ruling force from the heavens, but we’re not in the heavens, are we? And, because we are all so bizarre, it could be argued that we actually exist in a parralel universe, and therefore any ruler, except for the Queen of MuseBlog, would be invalid. However, since I am a kind and gracious Queen and you said you like P.G. Wodehouse, I will instate you as my second in command for the MuseBlog universe.
Oh, puny subject ebeth, you have angered your queen grately, but you have fled my grasp so I will answer your hideoulsly ignorant question. P.G. Wodehouse was an english dude who wrote a bunch of incredibly funny books in about the 1930’s. I shall order your head removed next time you enter my universe if you do not promise to read them as soon as you can!
Woohoo!!!! Like my new name, puny subjects??!!? Haahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel so powerful.
I modified my name to be just a little bit more grammatically correct.
AAAH!!!!
I beg forgiveness. Although I do have a rather large army now…mwahaha…
ok yes I will read them. Wow now i have a whole list of books to read. MuseBlog takes lotsa time. Like as in, time on the comp, time reading muser-recommended books, time watchiing muser-recommended movies (wallace and gromit people i’m SO going to see that! those movies are hilarious!) doing random muse-related stuff. very cool!
Hey peoples i’m in this cool book club thingy at school where all the geeks come ramble on about books and we just did the hitchiker’s guide. It was loud. yellyellyell!!! lotsa fun. we basically just shouted out our fav bits and discovered that the teachers are absolutely hopeless at being random and crazy like that. anyhoo we’re doing wicked next cuz of the play coming to ohio. So i’ll be on soon rambling on about that. just a warning.
hey peoples if you haven’t seen from other threads, this is ebeth, who got bored w/her name and changed it to THE LURKER! now the lurker lurketh among you and sayeth crazy stuff. anyhoo. yah. that’s basically it. another long post. grrrrrr. arrrgh.
Lurker, you may have a big army, but it would have to be a virtual army to work on the blog, and I have a virtual army sheild! Sorry. I also have a football playing bother who could beat you up at any time. Better not mess with me!!
has anyone read anything by Daniel Pinkwater?
Okay, I think I know what books I need to read! A Series of Unfortunate Events, Artimus Fowl, Monty Python and A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Gallaxy. Could someone tell me who the authors of those books are?
Lemony Snicket, Eoin Coilfer (sp), Monty Python is a theatrical comidy troup that did several movies and a tv show, skits, etc , and Douglass Adams.
I disliked the Series of Unfortunate Events.. the first few are okay, but they’re really formulaic- the plots are all on the same line, and he even uses the same funny/cute devices in them, like the thing where he tells you you’d probably be better off reading a dictionary, etc, and the books get kind of depressing once his sense of humor gets old… I liked his autobiograpy a lot better, though.
HHG2Gal trilogy good. you should read them. Although the last one isn’t as good as the first four.
while you’re reading new books, also read stuff by Isaac Asimov. and Daniel Pinkwater. and Agatha Christie.
Lemony Snicket, Eoin Colfer, I don’t know, and Douglas Adaams
I’ve already read Agatha Christie!! I actually knew who did it in The Murder of Roger Akroyd! The best ones were, Towards Zero, Murder on the Orient Express, and Ten Little Indians. Which ones have you read?
HA! I will smack your football-playing brother on the head with my trumpet! Marching band vs. football-marching band by a mile.
Monty python is a movie/tv thing. some of the people in it wrote stuff, but not monty python stuff.
I just watched a 6 hour A&E movie version of pride and prejudice. IT ROCKED!!!! i love those insanely long movies because they don’t cut out half the good lines. WHEEEEEE!!! Darcy rocks as usual. except the actor wasn’t hott. oh velll.
hoomdehoom off to read more booooooooooks and come back and ramble about them.
oh yah has anybody read the salmon of doubt? it’s a random collection of stuff by douglas adams that he was doing when he died anyhoo, he was doing a new dirk gently book and that half of a book there is funnier than all the rest (but not as funny as hitchiker’s guide)!!!!!! anyhoo yah. done rambling. for now. toodles!
*lurklurklurk*
SOMEONE MENTIONED DIRK GENTLY!!!! BEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I happen to be, oh, the Dirk Gently freak. I am still, however, ardently pursuing my own I Ching calculator. But seriously, all love Dirk Gently! How can you not love his irreverently brilliant phrases, his funny long coat and red hat, and his vim? GO DIRK GENTLY! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.G. Wodehouse wrote Jeeves and Wooster, as the Queen Montgomery mentioned, and a host of other books found at a library near you.
I hate Harry Potter because I think it’s badly written. Let’s be perfectly frank and admit that it’s blatantly over-marketed and trite. Past that, which, honestly, is no fault of the book, it’s OBIVOUS what’s going to happen. Stop sputtering and keep reading. No suspense whatsoever. NONE. Also the character’s actions are so unrealistic it’s amazing. Frighteningly so. The first was passable, I concede. The rest, however, were verging on the unreadable. OW! OW! OW!
Such were the last words of Julietaini, First Queen of Kiador…
Allright, allright! I get it, Monty Python was not a book! You guys can stop talking about it now!
Julietaini, I will defend you from the other Musers to the death for your courageous words! Death to Harry Potter! Okay, I’ve never actually read one, but I like to go against the mainstream whenever possible. So I stand with Julietaini, against crazed Musers or whatever else might come against us! Long live the Potter haters!!!
Thanks, MG. I feel so FORTIFIED now. WOOOOO!!!!!! GO POTTER HATERS!!!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *whangs about with cutlass yelling*
I just came back from helping out at a car wash for the Red Cross. I stood out at an intersection in the cold, waving a sign and yelling at the innocent cars.
AAAAAH!!! people insulting harry potter!!!
ok peoples, it is over-marketed. you can’t read it with that much expectation. heck, it’s a book about teenagers! that happen to be at a school for magic…
but if you just read it as a nice below-your-reading-level-but-still-interesting book it’s great! I am a huuuuuuge hp fan!!! WOOHOO!!!!! and heck it’s something to obssess over.
so yah don’t diss hp. especially if you haven’t read it *ahem* MONTGOMERYGURL!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh yah and dirk gently totally rocks. i love his navigational techniques! (did i spell that right? oh vell)
I always diss things I know nothing about, especially if everyone else likes them. It’s a bad habit of mine.
oooOOOO! I lovelovelovelove Agatha Cristie, especially Murder on the Orient Express! Also that one whose title I can’t remember where eight people are playing bridge in two seperate games–all suspected murderers–and then the host gets killed. In one game are the four detectives, in the other are the four murderers, and they have to figure out who did it. HERCULE POIROT ROCKS!
Julietaini, I’ve seen the person doing your job at those charity car-washes, and I have often wondered what they’re thought process is. You have finally put that question to rest. Thank you. Hey, wanna change our names to go with our new position as the Potter Haters?!? You can be Queen Julietaini The Flamabamablous of The Potter Haters, and I can be PotterHaterGurl!! Want to, just for like a day or something?
So there.
Hp is ok but the warriors series is da best.
Agatha Christie is very good. I’ve read the Murder of Roger Acriod, Murder on the Orient Express, and luved them all. Her Miss Marples, especially the Thirteen Problems, is very good.
Oh, great! I have a lot of fellow Christie lovers on here! Okay, ChinTsu, I will try not to cross you, but I will not get into a naming war with you. All done with that!
Oh, how are you guys able to write in green or in italics? Untill I got on this site, I had no idea there was a way to write in green! Show me how!!!!!!!
Ah. The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul is one of my all-time favorite books. I have practically MEMORIZED the thing. I like Poirot, but I must confess that I haven’t read any Miss Marple. I now realize that I am in danger of being burned at the stake for witchery, but oh well. So be it.
Has anyone read any Oscar Wilde?
YESYESYESTHEREAREOTHERPEOPLEONHEREWHODISLIKEHPYAY!!!!
PARTY!!!
Okay. I’ve read a ton of Agatha Christies- I’ve read most of her Miss Marple ones, and a lot of the Hercule Poirots.. I actually guessed the person in the ABC Mysteries, but only two paragraphs before Poirot did his whole point-the-finger-person-breaks-down revealment act, so I’m not sure if it really counts..
hey i’m reading don qui-something-i-can-never-pronounce-or-spell, the one w/the windmill guy it is SOOO FUNNY!
never read agatha christie but i like dectective stuff usually. except i always read them at the library cuz if i buy them i read them maybe 3 times and then never touch them again. figuring out the mystery is the fun thing.
The ABC mystery was so sad. I didn’t manage to figure out who it was, but I didn’t suspect the old guy for a SECOND. I read, if not all, most of the Poirot books. I suggest that we have a Hercule Poirot Appreciation Day– October 20th!
You’re readin Don Quixote? I started that book this summer, but I never finished it. Yoo’re right, it is funny.
I started reading The Prince this summer, but it was a bit complicated and I was also doing summer school at the same time so I never got past the second chapter.. I probably should try it again sometime..
I also read the first 100 pages of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. It was pretty good. But then we came home from CA and I left it there.
Cool, Lizzie. I never heard of either of those. I’m glad you don’t like HP either. Still cold in Texas? It’s was really feezing here this morning, and it’s still pretty cool right now.
i’ve heard of the prince. I think. Isn’t that the one that tells kings and peoples how to use cool political tricks to be a mean and nasty, but generally successful ruler? or is it something completely different?
i am veeery sad right now because i haven’t seen captain blood yet and i want to but the library only has it on vhs and we don’t have our thingy set up yet.
ok that’s really sad i forgot what the thing was that played movies. i watch too many dvds…
arrrgh! i’m gonna go google it
OY! vcr that was it. now i feel really stupid and slightly brainwashed by the dvd players…anyhoo we can’t find our vcr amongst the bockses of stuff (never mind the spelling that’s just how i like to spell it.) so there’s no point in renting it.
off to finish my hw. maybe. if i ever get done procrastinating first…
Dawn doesn’t come out till December.*pouts*
Where did Axa go?
I have a DVD player, but I only got it recently and I still mainly watch stuff on the VCR. I really should stop procrastinating, but it is so much fun here on the MuseBlog!!!
nah, it’s warmed up today- but it’s still dry so yay.
Yeah, that’s basically it, ebeth.
nonono keep procrastinating montgomerygurl! it rocks!! besides it makes you more motivated (yeah right..argh! sarcasm alert!)
dawn comes all the time here..very special…if i were ever awake to see it…
that’s totally cool though that you live in hawaii. rock on.
yes i’m on here avoiding various math problems (Death to the 2-column proofs!! eeeeeeevil geometry!)
argh…i have nothing more to say…oh yes hang on i do! fer skooooooooooool, we have a book club, which i told you guys somewhere up there, and we’re reading wicked, but i can’t find it. arghhh….
feel proud of me though-i put in a request at the library to buy the belgariad….
i wanna go to a booooooookstore, but it’s almost my b-daaaaay….grrrrrrrrrrrrr. arrrrrgh eeek.
long comment. wheeeee!!! eat choklit bunnies!
Okay, my post is the last one up there, but I have a feeling a bunch of people have written stuff that just hasn’t been moderated. If I am totally wrong, just pretend you don’t notice.
Has anyone ever read The Witch of Blackbird Pond? It’s really a very good book.
I just read the collection of short stories called Reave the Just by Stephan Donaldson. They are all pretty good, some really good, some excellent, but one that I read was REALLY freaky. It wasn’t scary, you must understand, just very thought provoking. It was called “Penance”, and it was about this man who is a vampire. He is wandering about, feeding on blood, when he takes up residence in the attic of a church. He hears the prayers and decides he wants to be a Christian. So he goes and becomes a member. Of course, they don’t know he is a vampire. He falls in love with this girl, and she teaches him to be a devoted Christian.
It is a very sad book and has an evil Bishup.
I don’t think I have ever read a book that had an evil Bishop. I think it’s a pretty common theme, but I don’t tend to read those kind of books.
Have any of ya’ll ever read any books by the Bronte girls? I liked Wuthering Heights alot, and Jane Eyre was pretty good, just really depressing. Almost nothing went her way the entire book, untill she got engaged to Mr. Rochester, and then that turned out to be a dud. It was really super frustrating, and even though it was very well written, I got mad and threw it across the room several times.
I feel so relieved!!! For a minute there, I thought Books and Movies had diseappeared all together!!! Let’s not let it’s move to “Previous Posts” slow down the traffic on it. We need Books and Movies!!! Everyone comment on here (when they get back from school) to show your support for the beloved Books and Movies thread!!! Go Books and Movies!!! Books and Movies forever!!! No life without the Books and Movies thread!!! Huzzah for the Books!!! Huzzah for the Movies!!! Yay, go Books and Movies!!! I’m really hungry!!! I’m going to go get something to eat!!!
wow that scared me too. i had to find this off of a post. AAAHHH!!!!
I’ve never read wuthering heights, but my mom keeps trying to get me to read it. actually my mom has a whole bunch of books she wants me to read…
never read jane eyre either…arrgh gotta get reading…i have so much hw though, all my reading happens in the middle of the night…
Thursday off though! yippee!!
I haven’t seen any movies recently…I want to go see the wallace and gromit one though. i’ve seen all the other ones and they’re all hilarious.
ALL HAIL GROMIT!! GROMIT ROCKS!!!! OH YEAH!!! THIS WAY FOR THE GROMIT FAN CLUB!!!!
There’s nothing bad about being in “Previous Posts.” Every post winds up there eventually as new posts come along at the top, and you can still add comments to them. You can easily find them by going to the Archives page.
–Robert
But we didn’t know that, and it freaked us out!!! Also, people won’t go to it as much, since it won’t just be there to comment on, they’ll have to seek it out. And alot of people won’t know that it is still here, just in a different place.
It’s true that fewer people will flip back a page to find something, especially if they don’t know it’s there. The new comments appearing the righthand column should tip off all experienced Musebloggers, though.
What if they don’t use the new comment thingie? What about the inexperienced ones? Are you conceding that there is something bad about moving to the “Previous Posts” page? Because in 102 you said “there is nothing bad about moving to ‘Previous Posts,'” and it was that comment that I was disputing. (Sorry, debate is really starting to make me super analytical. Of course, I was also super analytical before debate…)
Okay, I just realized that the “experienced” in that post was high-lighted, and now I am very offended because I think that Robert was making fun of the fact that I have only been here since Wednesday (LOL)!! I actually managed to find it myself, without the help of the recent comment thingie.
Actually, MG, I wasn’t thinking about that at all. There’s no anti-newbie prejudice here at MuseBlog. Besides, it seems as if you’ve been here forever… Well, no, that’s not exactly what I mean, either.
Thanks, Robert! I was only joking, anyway. I guess it would be pretty hard for MuseBlog to have an anti newbie prejudice, since it’s only two months old.
Alright, back to Books and Movies. I want ot go on further about all the movies I love. The Princess Bride, everything by Pixar, Conspiracy Theory, all those Mel Gibson movies that were so good, LOTR kinda, Citizen Kane, What About Bob?, The Man Who Knew Too Little, and the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks romantic comedies.
I have only seen seven movies in theatres. They are: Prince of Egypt (HATED that one!), Toy Story 2, The Rookie (with Dennis Quayd), Finding Nemo, The Passion of The Christ, LOTR 3, and Cinderella Man. I had to drag my mom to the last one, she kept on going “but honey, it’s a BOXING movie!” but in the end, we were glad we went. Random comment over.
the princess bride is sooo funny! have u read the book?
hey let’s stop all this anti-offending stuff cuz if we start that up we won’t be allowed to say anything! let’s just assume that nobody wants to diss anybody on the site.
the rookie was really good too.
“but honey it’s a BOXING movie!” lol sry that sounds like something my mom would say.
i don’t want to go to bed…now i sound about 8…but really.
i have a late day tomarrow though which is totally cool cuz we don’t have to be at school until 9…happy days.
oh yah we might go see corpse bride this week too…my mom wants to see it (and then she’s gonna be the one that hates it and we’re all gonna love it…that’s what happens all the time. of course when we drag her along to a movie she ends up loving it…people in general can be pretty strange. )
ok ramblings ending for now…general lurking ensues…wait…move mouse..press button…NOW!
Even though I love The Princess Bride, my older brother hates it. He’s always going off on how stupid it is and everything. I think he just wants to be cool, and he thinks it’s superior to purposefully not find the humor in really funny movies. NEVER hang out with a seventeen year-old boy ebeth, they can be complete jerks!
i might watch a wrinkle in time tonight…we got it from the library. my brother started watching it and he says it’s pretty good but i don’t trust him all that much. at least not in movie type stuff.
A Wrinkle in Time was a really great, really confusing book. I was pretty freaked out by some parts of it, never seen the movie though.
oh yah almost forgot we’re doing animal farm in english now. which is gonna be cool cuz almost everybody’s already read it so we can just go talkytalktalky all through class and people won’t be too confoosed.
wheeeeee!!!! animal farm’s cool.
Animal Farm was really great. I wanted to punch some of those nasty pigs!! I get pretty emotionally involved in books read. With Animal Farm I was getting so upset about what was going on, and mad at the stupid animals who were letting it happen, I really just about threw something! And with Jane Eyre I was so mad at the depressing plot-line that if the writer of that book had been in my room I probably would have slapped her!! Same with Nancy Drew. I get so mad at her! She always goes to the most dangerous place possible, and not only that, But BY HERSELF!!!! She’s always like “I really need to take a walk right now, even though it’s night and murderers are loose around here somewhere. I don’t think I’ll tell anybody, because if I do they won’t let me go out, or they’ll want to go with me, and I really need to clear my head,” and I’m going, “yo, Nancy, get a clue!! Think about WHY they don’t want you to go out by yourself,” but she never takes my advice!!!! She always gets kidnapped, but I can’t have any sympathy for her, because it’s her own fault!!! Gosh it makes me so MAAADD!!!!!!!! AAAARRRGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m just writing this so it will apper in the “recent comments” thingie, and people will follow it and end up here. Post something!!!!
i haven’t watched wrinkle in time yet…maybe tomarrow…
yah some characters bug me too. except not really the stupid ones so much…more like the way-too-good ones. like melly in gone with the wind. She bugged me. she just wasn’t even human!
arrogant characters bug me too. arrogant people bug me too actually. people, characters-same thing really. if they’re done right.

yay! shel silverstein! i love him
I just read the chosen for skool.
traveling pants, the hobbit, princess bride, eragon books, lemony snicket, harry potter…very cool stuff. haven’t read a lot of those other ones. calvin and hobbes is cool…if i can get to it before my little brother…
i gots to go to bed now too…i’ll probably stay up reading don whats-his-name though…i’m one of the crazy type that has to stay up till midnight the day before holidays and such. but the comp will be taken away from me. nooooo!
hey who here likes mad libs? (ok not exactly books/movies but close enough…)
Which LOTR book/movie is your favorite? Books or movies? Just curious.
‘Kay. I gotta answer my own question. ILOVE LOVE LOVE the LOTR books. Ther’s no comparison. I love the movies too, but the books are way better.
Yay, someone came!!! I feel so happy…..
I only read one, and part of two. They were pretty good, but they went into too much DETAIL!!!!! I was about to get really annoyed.
definitely books! the movies are awesome though. but the books rule supreme.
besides faramir was like one of my fav characters. arrgh…
yah montgomerygurl there’s a lot of backstory there. but i love backstory, i think it’s cool.
that means you didn’t read ROTK though! that’s my fav. well sometimes i like TTT better. but usually ROTK.
yaaaaay! i saw wallace+gromit.
ALL HAIL GROMIT!!!! YAAAAY!!!
CHEESE!!
actually i liked the mini movies better…but it was still pretty funny.
I LOVE the british mailboxes. sry that was random. but they almost crashed into one.
we got there kinda late though so we missed the previews this is like the time to see previews, cuz all the good movies come out in nov.
CHEESE!!!
ok for the rest of the day i’m gonna be shouting CHEESE!! at random moments. just so y’all know.
The Lurker is a proud member of the Gromit Fan Club.
ok not really. maybe i should start one…
g2g do history project now…aka head over to the procrastinayaytion thread…
You saw that movie!!!!!!!! Lucky!!!!!!! I want to see that.
Following an earlier made comment… books are way better than their movies, it’s like a rule!!!!!!!!!!
I remember when I went to see the Harry Potter 3 movie, in the middle of the movie right when the werewolf came out my friend
KKKittyKat burped so loud that we both started laughing SO hard!!!
People in the seats around us turned around and looked at us like we were crazy!!!!!!!!!!!
We probably are…
-Krissy also known as Kricket
haha! that’s a good one.
speaking of movie theater stories, who’s seen the “things overheard at the theater” for lotr? it’s on some fansite…i forgot where. I go find it! anyway it’s really funny.
quote: who’s gondor anyway?
that was one of them. aaanyhoo.
i didn’t really like hp3. or hp2. or hp1. i mean i love the books but the movies….
owie.
Yay, Diana Wynn Jones!!! I like her Chrestomanci books but the other books began getting a bit “adult” and gross, if you know what I mean..
I haven’t seen the movies (I don’t watch very many movies- I get scared very easily) but I really liked the LOTR books. And Tom Bombadil was my favorite character. And he apparently isn’t in the movies.
CALVIN AND HOBBES!!!!!! My natural studlyness has overwhelmed Susie’s fragile grip on reality!
And L’Engle’s stuff is good. all of it. or almost all.
I really love the Princess Bride, both book and movie. Actually, I like the movie better, which is a surprise, because very few movies are better than thier counterpart books. Only Shrek comes to mind, but that was a really stupid book. I read Jane Aire, but it really depressed me. DOWN WITH WESTLY! UP WITH PRINCE HUMPERDINK! COUNT RUGEN ROCKS! YAAAAAYYYY!
the princess bride rocks! actually the book (or the part of the book that was actually part of the story) was almost the same as the movie. probably cuz the guy was a scriptwriter.
WHAT ABOUT HOKEY POKEY!!!! YAAAY!!! HELLO MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA! YOU KILLED MY FATHER!! PREPARE TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!
hello my name is hokey pokey! you killed my father! prepare to dance!
l’engle’s cool. calvin and hobbes is cool…except when my brother is bugging me about it…hobbes is really cool though.
right now i’m reading my history textbook. joy. yes i’m doing more homework. i found out there was a part i missed. arrgh.
CHEESE!!!!
my mom says that once she went to the theatre to see the Princess Bride with a bunch of friends. They had already seen it, and they wore Westly masks and black outfits and swords, and when Inigo does the line thing to Count Ruegan, they all stood up and yelled, HELLO! MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA…
then they got kicked out of the theatre, but it’s still funny.
Between Phoenix’s story and the Dumpster Dive Song, I’m starting to notice a pattern about Muse parents…
ha ha!!!! lol!! good story Phoenix!!!!!!!!! I agree with Ebeth when I say that I liked the hp books way better than thier movies.
chow!!!!
-Kricket/Krissy
Veggie Tales + Lord of the Rings =
See http://www.bigidea.com/videos/veggietales/vt026/default.htm
hah! they’re all wackoees! yes, i said wackoees! I blame all my random insanity on my parents.
IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT! I HOPE YOU’RE HAPPY MOM AND DAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
choklit gooooooood.
i’m reading oliver twist for like the millionth gazillionth batrillionth quadrillionth time. yay oliver twist! wheee! i started it again during study hall…cuz it was like the only book in my locker…*gasp* oh the horror. i need to stuff some more books in there. but yah oliver twist rocks.
we’re watching another movie in english (!!! i swear that’s all we do in there! all our actual work is done at home!) called legend. with tom hanks. it’s really funny cuz his teeth used to be soooo bad…
anyway so far it’s pretty boring. the happy girl runs around and has fun w/ fairies and nice trees and things. and unicorns. yay unicorns. then comes the lord of darkness. or his servants anyway. oh no. what will happen next? hmm…nice happy girl touches unicorn. uh-oh. bad idea. big long symbolic dream-type thing that never really happened. yippee. end of what we’ve seen so far.
and in latin we’re watching jason and the argonauts. we haven’t started yet, but i saw that ages ago. it is sooo bad…and pouch was all like “yeah it has special effects. yay!” and i’m like “oh yah real nice special effects in this one.” *SARCASM ALERT!*
arrgh…why can’t we ever watch anything goooood…
oh my. oh my. oh my. wow. that’s…interesting d_q. wow. wow. oh my. erm…
Dear RandomRohanFreak,
I like The Hobbit better than the movies and LOTR. I liked parts of LOTR but the war stuff, (mainly Return of the King) I didn’t really take anything in. It just got sooo boring. The movies are okay. I was mad that they didn’t get the most awesome details right. Like the barrow wights and Tom Bombadil. Or the very end of ROTK when the hobbits fight the men for the Shire. They didn’t put Boromir’s death in the right movie, the didn’t put Shelob in the right movie and I’m a stickler for details. Yes I do like the story that is embedded in too many words, so don’t come mob my house or something like that…please.
(This thing won’t let me indent)
(indent) I hope you have a fabulously wonderful rest of the day.
–Boxty
Oh my gosh, I just read the funniest thing ever!!!!!!! It was by Mark Twain, and I was laughing so hard I could barely keep from screaming. It was aboult James Fenimoore Cooper, and how horrible his writing was. Next time you go to the library, find a book of lesser known Mark Twain works, one with “Fennimore Cooper’s Literary Offences” in it. It’s hillarious, or at least I found it so. Go get it!!!!!
The latest Muse edition had that whole thing on “The Crazy Frog” I went to the website (it had to load a bit) and it really lives up to it’s name! It’s crazily funny. Ding-Ding-a-Ding-a-Dong-Ding-Ding-a-dong-dong-ding-ding-ding-a-dong. And it’s a movie, so no worries there. (The whole ding-dong episode was part of the tune and no it’s stuck in my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
yay! all hail mark twain! never read the literary offences thing but i will next time i go to the library.
i got lt. hornblower! yay! i’ve read them all but i don’t have any. or i didn’t. mwahaha now i have one of them.
yay boxty! although pj did a better job than most book/movie type director thingys…if anybody has a clue what i just said…
arrghgrrfaramir though. i sulk.
ebeth: *sulks*
david wenham was pretty hott though. even though they like totally ruined the character. arrgrrfaramir sulk.
ebeth: *sulks*
yes i just did that. i’m repeating for emphasis. go me.
i’ll sulk some more.
ebeth: *sulks*
wow sulking is fun. hey guys let’s all be sulking teenagers now! *sulksulksulk*
I like Huckleberry Fin by Mark Twain, but I don’t think it’s as funny as the story you read by him, MontgomeryGurl.
It’s adious amigos for me, today! Everybody (ebeth, phoenix, boxty, and all), I am leaving my first day posting on this most wonderful sight. I will be back tommorow, and that’s a promise. Keep musing around
TTFN,

Ilike everthing by Mark Twain!!! I always laugh really hard, but thatn again I have a really wierd sense of humor.
I’m back!
The corpse bride…
It reminds me of another movie Tim Burton did, the Nightmare before Christmas. When I went to PA, my little cousin wouldn’t stop watching it.
Has anybody seen the “Brother’s Grim”? I wish I hadn’t. I’ll send a picture of it.
What?! I tried to put the picture on here, but it didn’t work. Please tell me how to put a picture on this blog…
why was it really bad?
brother’s grimm i mean.
hey ultimate supreme chairman blahblahblah grant o. i saw the road to mars at the library today. i read like the first 5 pages cuz i was bored. but then i had to go to latin so i only read the first 5 pgs. it was pretty…erm…questionable. funny bits though. i even got some people staring at me while i laughed. *gasp* speaking of that i was talking to lizzy in science today (my friend lizzy not the muser lizzie) and then she like sat up really straight and i looked around and everybody was staring at us. ouch. and then we were talking about it later and i was like, “how long were people waiting for us to shut up?” and she was like “i have no idea” aargh! embarrassing. how many people has that happened to on here? random question of the day.
no idea what that has to do w/ books and movies either. oh vell.
i read lt. hornblower again. bush is sooo cool! poor bush…:-( *cries* that was sad, reading it the 2nd time…
yah i’m gonna go procrastinate now! later peoples!
Blood, gore, missing body-parts…
that thing should’ve been rated XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX rather than pg-13!!!!
oh. um. eek. aah. ooh. errrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
glad i didn’t see it then! ick.
ok i’m going around at random threads yelling at people for not posting (see the writing thread) so come on guys post!!! DON’T LET THE BOOKS & MOVIES THREAD DIE!!!!!!!!!
I know you guys are reading books, whether for class or not, so come on! postpostpost!! we like this thread right? right? RIGHT??!!
i haven’t seen any movies lately…we’re reading animal farm in english..i think i told you guys that. i’m re-reading other random stuff….count of monte cristo right now. and the cartoon history of the u.s. (yay larry g!) I need to read wicked for book club…gotta go find that somewhere. I might have to buy it. aah! i have like no money right now. i just spent it all. maybe i can just sorta recommend it to my dad and he’ll buy it for himself and then i can read it…
waiting for november *sigh* the month of good movies. i have no clue why that is.
come on peoples post! don’t let me sit here rambling on to myself!!
I’m going to reccomend Dave Barry to any Musers who like humor, and who have parents that will let them read it. It’s absolutely hysterical. and I really mean that!!!!!!
Oh my! I loveloveloveLOVE Dave Barry! I own several. I just got Dave Barry is From Mars and Venus.
i’ve heard of that. never read any though. my dad likes them. maybe i’ll dig one out of the basement somewhere…
I haven’t read that… I recomend The Bartimus Trilogy to anyone who will listen… Oh also I recomend Eragon and Eldest to anyone who hasn’t read them yet…
I haven’t read eldest yet!!! I feel deprived! (i’ve been feeling deprived a lot lately…hmm…MORE CHOKLIT!!! ) but i ordered it online so it should come soon. (it’s all checked out at the public library, and our poor deprived skool library only has one copy so it has a loooooong waiting list there)
I gots to read wicked…i’m going to the library to see if they got it back yet…(somebody has it overdue…grrr!!!)
IF YOU’RE SEEING THIS FROM THE HOME PAGE CLICK ON IT AND GET TO THE BOOKS+MOVIES THREAD ALREADY!!!!
I read wicked (yay!) it was really good. but it wasn’t oz at all. sorta like a bad fanfic, you know when you’re writing your own story but you can’t make up a setting or anything… kinda like that. it’s a waaay different thing.
i’m also reading dr. zhivago (tel mee ife eye spleled thet rong) cuz we talked about it in english and i’m a geek like that.
ok i g2g now later!
I just came here because you told me to, Ebeth, no other reason. I need to start reading some books, like Don Quixote. The only problem with Don Quixote is that it’s 900 pages long!!! The longest book I’ve ver read so far was David Copperfeild, with 860 pages. I guess I should get started on that….
I had an idea for a thread, but itwould take a long time to do, would require the dedication and comitment of several Musers, and might be pretty hard to orcestrate. I was just thinking that we could all agree on a book, and then read like a chapter every day, or two days, and then we could discuss each chapter in the thread. If a lot of people agreed to it, it could be done, but it would definitely take a while, and I guess no one else woudl want to do it. It was just a random thought.
YAY somebody came! i feel loved!
wow that would be awesome!!! like an online book club thingy!!! if you do that i am so in!!!
don quixote is pretty long. but i read reeeeeally long books. just because.
except i hate when authors try to make it long, like stretching it out, then it gets really boring and it’s like yeah get to the point already!! but books that are just naturally long are awesome.
hey I’m here too!!!!! I’m reading David Copperfield for AR (Accelarated Reading)!!!! It’s worth 65 points!!!!!! I already have 300 something points… oh vell!!!!!!!!!! Can we have an online book club thingy Mr. and Mrs. Administraters? please!!!!!!
If we’re going to have the online book club, we have to agree what the book is going to be (no Harry Potter or magicky books, because my parents won’t let me read those kind of books even if I wanted to) and we have to really commit to reading the chapter a day, or it won’t work. Plus, all of this is assuming the MAPs decide to let us have thread for it, they might decide that an online book club is too involved for MuseBlog, which isn’t meant to be taken serioulsy. We just need to remember that this is all hypothetical.
How many of you have ever seen The Blair Witch Project? It was on tonight and I never watch horror movies, but I decided to watch it anyway, and it was pretty good, just not really scary, and it made me car-sick. I was just wondering if any of you have seen it. Furthermore, have any of you ever read Dave Barry’s description of it? Where he says it looked like someone put a camera on a hyperactve seal’s nose? That was so funny!!!!!!!!!!!
We’ve said it before: your wish is our command. Here’s your book club.
Thatnks!!!!!
heeeeeeeeeeeeey people…let’s remember this thread kay? cuz we’re having discussion withdrawals…and we’re taking it out on the poor book club thread…
I’m reading doctor zhivago…it’s really good. I’m at part 2. cool stuff. what yous guyez doins?
I can honestly say that I have nothing to say. Will someone answer my Blair Witch question?!?!!
never seen it…
I’m reading doctor zhivago and nicholas nickleby…
yay museblog book club!

we’re watching the horrible old black+white Oliver Twist movie in history. everybody wanted to watch the slightly annoying musical but no, can’t watch anything that might be mildly amusing in skool!
*gasp* how horrific!!!!!!!!!!!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….. sry I fell asleep…. got to … zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
How many of you have ever seen the movie Saving Private Ryan? It was a really good movie, but the violence was really graphic, and the language was some of the worst I’ve ever heard.
ACTUAL EXCERPT FROM CONVERSATION
Random Dude Whose Purpose I Can’t Remember: Some f***ing idiot hit the wrong f***ing botton. We fell like a f***ing meteor.
No joke!!!! They literally talked like that!!!!! All the same, it was a great move with great acting. If you don’t mind graphic images of people’s arms flying off.
Ryannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn……….. hmmmmm….. did you post that to make me think ’bout Ryan??? who i really like…. a lot….
figure out who I am, already!
D_Q?
You know, when I was twelve I never had crushes. I don’t think I’ve ever had a crush on anyone. I’m totally independent of guys. Huzzah for me.
ok i posted this on the nov. thread and realized it was totally in the wrong spot so i’m copying it here.
I’m watching capt. blood and it totally ROCKS!!!!! woohoo! awesome story. and errol flynn is hott. even in black+white. one thing bugged me though cuz it’s called capt. blood, but they didn’t actually get a ship until about an hour in. I kept waiting for the mutiny on the slave ship but no never came. they got across got bought did a few other things and then got a ship. plus i know almost nothing about james II (pb&j???) it’s always cooler when you know the history. but it’s totally AWESOME!!!!!
mousie-ryan is a common name k? you are really obssessed. no diss but you are. THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE NAMED RYAN!!!
i have a boo-boo on my pinky *sniff*
hot glue guns-lots of fun, but OUCH!!!! they hurt.
we were gluing fish onto pjs. don’t ask.
omg mg that was like the road to mars. chairman recommended book somewhere up there. anyhoo i read that and it was like every other word. it was really naughty too. the rest of it was great though. except i hate the ending. oh vell.
my lb’s reading hitchikers guide and it’s DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! i love that book and i love hearing it quoted and all but he is really going too far. I have to keep yelling at him to shut up cuz that’s how he ruined calvin+hobbes for me and i definitely don’t want him messing this up. seriously you will not believe how much he can totally ruin something for you. just by quoting! constantly! all the time! and he always gets little tiny things wrong and then you correct him and then you think “wait that was really sad wasn’t it” and then the way he says it it’s just like “No. not that way. never again. stop it now.
ok i shall stop my rambling now and go complain somewhere else.
sry. By the way I changed my name. Do you like it?
um…Sir Mouse?
wait it’s Sir Moue…
u should make it Sir Mouse. except you’re a girl. oh vell.
i have BOOKS! to go BACK! to the LIBRARY! but i CAN’T! bring them BACK! cuz I have RIP! they might be OVERDUE! oh DEAR! Why am i ENDING! all my PHRASES! or whatever these ARE! in CAPITALS? I really don’t KNOW! It’s lots of FUN! My dad got 1776! (darn u can’t capitalize numbers. *sulk*) I’m going to read IT! and see if it’s any GOOD! I will tell you guys about IT! My dad also RENTED! the movie CASABLANCA! he’s on another classic movie RANT! I shall watch THAT! From what I’ve heard it’s GOOD! I will come rant about it when i watch IT! when I get a CHANCE! Are these endings bugging YOU? they’re starting to bug ME! I will stop doing them NOW! sooo…yeah. i’m not reading much right now…i sold my soul to the theater devil (coleslaw) toooo muuuch rehearsal!!! and they definitely yell at us poor crew too much. oh vell. oh yes and i started reading the 4th belgariad book at barnes+nobles (my dad dropped us off while he went grocery shopping) I got to part 2 and a bit. then he dragged me away at the good part. actually i didn’t know if it was the good part or not cuz i didn’t read the rest. but it might have been the good part! I will go sulk now. *sulksulksulk* If you haven’t noticed i like to sulk. sulky me. baad sulker ebeth. maybe i should be ebeth the sulker instead. nah…somehow i don’t think so. I will stop ranting now and go pretend to start on my hw.

why am i the only one posting????????? come on people.
I read a seperate peace last night for english. at midnight. there’s something different about reading books at midnight. it’s different from reading during the day.
tale of two cities and the princess bride are definitely my midnight books. i hardly ever read those in the daytime.
does anybody else do that?
ditto. I always read C.S. Lewis books at night.
Hi. I am new. Have you ever tried reading books upside-down? Anyway, i love reading at night (and my parents only catch me 50% of the time).
Duncan_Quagmire, DID YOU PREVIOUSLY SAY THAT YOU LIKED EOIN COLFER?!?!
“LIKLIKLIK OMG!” I love Eoin Colfer’s books! I can even read gnommish. (-: I love Artemis Fowl II! I am so absessed, that I even know useless trivia off of the top of my head. Eoin Colfer parachutes, Artemis Fowl drank earl grey tea about 2 times in all of the books; the fourth book has 242 pages,(costing $23.95 in Canada),(I am even not Canadian), AND, Artemsi Fowl II is soooooooo cool.
-BobTheSquid
Hello. I watched the HP4 movie for the first time last night, and it DID…….. NOT…….. FOLLOW…….. BOOK….. AT……. ALL! *panics* Why, oh why, didn’t they have the Quidditch Match? 3 people in the room in the 1st dream?!?! NO BLAST ENDED SKREWTS? Hungarian Horntail, PALE BROWN? it’s BLACK! do the directors even READ the books?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Maze…….. Boggarts? Acromantula? Crazy spells? THERE WAS MORE THAN JUST BEWITCHED VINES!!!!!! what about the Rita Skeeter = beetle thing????? colors all wrong for the Yule Ball! and the…. there were NO classes, for pete’s sake! AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH! *writhes on ground in agony*
obssessed is spleled rong. bute thets owkay, wee lik creativ splelers.
the first artemis fowl ROCKED!!! totally. the second one was ok…I didn’t like the third one. haven’t read the fourth one yet. hah i just saw my friend walk by. sry that was random. she lives close to me, so i saw her walk by the window. anyhoo. WHAT???? QUIDDITCH??? They messed up Quidditch AGAIN???!!! DIE FIENDS!!!!!
I haven’t seen that yet but i will come rant some more when I have. actually I’ve seen pretty much the whole movie already. my obssessed lb keeps showing me clips and previews and trailers and pictures and blahblahblah. how was the music? was it any good? it’s not john williams
i finished a tale of 2 cities. again. the night before last i think. maybe before that. ah well. sometime at night anyway. it made me sad. last night i read stalky+co. again. it made me crack up laughing and almost get caught. again. hoom. good stuff. who’s read that one??
I vants to go see hp. basically so i can make fun of them all. i honestly have no hopes at all for this movie. they’ve done 3 already, you’d think they’d get the idea by now but judging from the clips nooooo still clueless. maybe if they stopped switching directors one of them would get the idea. oh vell.
hey artemis fowl do people think ur crazy? cuz i can read dwarvish and people think i’m insane. i sympathize, fellow geek.
yeeeeeeeeeeaaaah i’m procrastinating. why do you ask? ok i should probably go open up microsoft word now. maybe type in my name and all that junk. then i’ll take a little break. don’t want to do too much at once
the fourth book was horrible. it had no plot, and any changes they made were probably for the better.
You mean artemis fowl or harry potter?
fourth af haven’t read yet. fourth hp isn’t my fav, but it’s pretty good. and why do books need to have plots anyway? plots are overrated. watch monty python.
From way back and off topic, but oh well. Phoenix, you read C.S. Lewis books?!!?? Oh my gosh, I’m reading Mere Christianity right now!!!! Which ones have you read? Just The Chronicles of Narnia, or others? Speaking of which, is anyone going to see The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe? The commercial for it looks really cool, and I think I might actually go and see it in theaters!!!!!
The fourth Artemis Fowl was not godd. I disliked the rehashed “OMG IT’S teh Opl KoBoI lolz!!!!!!1111111one” plot. And it’s wasn’t as funny or clever as the other ones.
Anyone read Jane Austen? I read P&P and I saw both movies.
Pride and prejudice is soooooooooooooo good! I love that book! which movies are you talking about? did u see the A&E one? I loved that one.
wheee ranting time.
c.s. lewis is cool. i read all the narnia and the first 2 perelandra thingys.good stuff.
I really hope they do a good job on that movie. I’m very pessimistic when it comes to movies based off books.
BECAUSE THE BOOKS ARE ALWAYS BETTER!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
forgive the insanity. I’m in study hall. I have nothing better to do.
Yup, the A&E one, but also the new one with Kiera Knightly. Even though it was short, I still liked it. XD
ack……. major blow! major blow! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! need…….. HP4 movie……. follow…… BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no….. ANYTHING!!!! NOTE TO DIRECTOR: READ THE BOOKS! grrrr……….. Ludo Bagman? Bellatrix ____ and them’s trial? Sirius in Hogsmede? QUIDITCH??!?!?!?!?!? wrong incantation for dark mark…….. *gasp*
wow that one’s out already? I gots to go see that sometime…
I’m gonna see hp tomorrow..yayness…
Ebeth – where in the world do you live?!?!?!??!? I live in Wyoming for pete’s sake, and I’ve seen it! grrrr……
What was up w/ Moody’s eye? Veela? Leprachans? gosh, this thing was almost THREE HOURS LONG! i think it could have had a wee bit more detail, don’t you? and Pheonix, were you saying the HP4 book was bad? (post 188) WHADDAYA MEAN, THE BOOK WAS BAD? THE MOVIE WAS BARE BONES, NO DETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!! ‘good changes’ my foot! BAD changes! (and did anyone notice, Ginny Weasley & Lily Potter look an awful lot the same in the movie) Anyway, the book HAD a plot, HAD detail, and the movie was ABSOLUTLY BARE! grrrrr……… ‘good changes’, she says. ‘bad book’ she says. I say, pies on you!
I live in ohio. yes it’s sad isn’t it? in central ohio. as in near all the movie theaters.
i apologise for the neglect.
yes I will act british so meh!
standard shameful hp move.
almost.
ok so it was terrible w/details and all. sticking to the book+all that. shameful. how can they sleep at night?
but the main thing was i was actually able to enjoy this as a movie. Yes there’s a long list of what they could have done better, who they could have cast better *coughharryandfleurcough* and on and on but altogether, forgetting about the book, it was actually a decent movie.
I would also like to say that the weasley twins are hott.
admire the control of my inner rabid fangirl. I am able to state the facts calmly and…asd;gjashdlkhygI LOVE THEM SOOO MUCH!!!YEAH!!! WOOHOO!!!LAKHGOAlsf
sorry about that…anyway. what was I saying? oh yes. *ahem* thumb up then. good stuff
I live in Louisiana. Yay for me!!!
Random, but I want to say it; My brother’s team is still in the play-offs!!!!! They’re the #1 seed!!!! Oh, my gosh, I hope we can win the state championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I only read the Chronicles of Narnia, which are among my favorite books. The Christian theology is a bit distracting, but in general I love the books. I don’t like The Last Battle, though, because it is uninteresting (to me) and the Dwarves–well, you might not have noticed this, but the Dwarves represent Jews. Just like in LOTR, another of my favorite books. Ah, well. So it goes. (hey Adon Moreh– is there a Hamlet smiley?)
which reminds me. I shouldn’t say Adon Moreh, which literally means “mister teacher”, but instead “Adon Madrich” which means “Mister Guide”. It seems more accurate somehow, and there is no Hebrew word for a webmaster.
I don’t think the Dwarves were meant to represent Jews specifically. I think they were more of a general representation of those who refuse to see God. Some people might include Jews in that category, but I don’t think it was a specific representation. I read it and thought they were just aetheists (sorry if that offends aetheists, but I think that’s what it was supposed to be) who won’t believe in God no matter what.
*raises eyebrows skeptically* it says, “we won’t be taken in again…” it’s reffering to Jews, who have been offered Christianity numerous times and refused.
I think that line is just about anyone who refuses God and thinks that’s the intelligent thing to do. Now maybe C.S. Lewis included Jews in that category, but I don’t think it was specific. I’m also not sure if he included Jews in that category. I haven’t seen anything in his writings that indicates he thought badly about the Jews, but then again I wasn’t looking for it. I think it was just a general allegory.
Listen, MontgomoryGurl, if you want to know about the Chinese, don’t ask the Irish. I never said he was anti Semetic, just that he thought that I’m going to Hell. Quite frankly, you do too (unless I’m much mistaken. You do think I’m going to Hell, right?). I don’t think I’m going to Hell. Jews, as I said before, don’t belive in eternal damnation. The other nations were the animals who rejected Aslan/Jesus, they swarmed around the door, remember? how he was holding the door wide open, but half the animals refused to save themselves? Well, the point was that the Dwarves were in Paradise, they just refused to see it. Look in the records of Chritian/Jewish history, and you’ll find several such referances. MontgomoryGurl, let me just make this clear. I LOVE THE BOOKS. My parents read them to me as bedtime stories when I was litte. Just this teeney, weeney detail bugs me. End of discussion.
Anyway, MontgomoryGurl, can you go to http://www.nationstates.net and make a nation? then go to the region search and type “land of the Muse”, and type the password, “kokopelli”. We’re all Musers here.
who said anything about the chinese?
it’s an expression. I meant that the person who should best recognize a Jewish referance is a Jew.
But a Christian made the Jewish reference, so maybe a Christian would better understand what he believes. I still think it was just a genreal reference, but I’m not a mind reader so I could be wrong.
C.S. Lewis probably did believe you’re going to hell. As a Christian, he believed a lot of people were going to hell. And I have to admit it, I do, too. As I explained it Hot Topics, I think everyone on earth, myself included, deserves to go to hell. I believe God wants to save everyone from that, but they have to believe in His Son, and accept Him. Nothing personal, just my beliefs.
Yeah, we are all Musers. I might check out Nation States. I’m kind of busy right now because my grandparents are coming tomorrow, but it might be fun.
cool! 2 people from this blog have already signed up. It’s a really neat site.
I did it!!!! I’m Igloomania. I think I might start another country, and in that one make everything exactly the opposite of what I believe, and see how that turns out. Whatever, it’s just fun to have my own country.
I started a new one. Now I’m the Egotistical Egomaniacs. When they asked me the questions to determine what the politics should be, I voted exactly the opposite of my beliefs, and I’m going to do that with all the issues. This should be fun!!!!
Seven nations so far in Land of the Muse! Very impressive.
I’ve created my 3rd Nation state! The other ones kind of died because I never visited them…
oh, ok. sry. I got mixed up.
Everyone should go and start a country on Nation States!!!! It doesn’t take much time, it’s random, and you get to control imaginary people. What could be more fun than that? You can pick your own flag, make up your own motto, decide issues however you want to, and just generally be in charge. It’s cool. Everyone should join. Once you join, move your country to land of the Muse to hang out with us. Do it, or MontgomeryGurl, Queen of The Emirate of Egotistical Egomaniacs will hunt you down and force you to participate in mandatory voting, because she wants you to be free wether you do or not. And if you don’t listen to her, then the head of The People’s Republic of Igloomania will make you work quietly at a job, and be lauded for it. You don’t want either of these things to happen, so go make your own country and be the boss!!!!!!!!
Yeah yeah! woo!
ok i saw two movies over thanksgiving go me! movie #1-Pride and prejudice. Not bad for having to compete w/the awesome A&E one. we (as in my mom, my grandma, and i) decided colin firth was a better darcy but we liked keira knightley as elizabeth. A&E was still better of course but we thought it was pretty good. they skipped a lot of the funniest bits though. sad days.
movie #2-the african queen. based on the book by c.s. forester. y’know, the guy that wrote HORNBLOWER!!! WOOT!!! not a bad movie either. pretty funny. veeeerry corny. kinda short. but pretty good movie anyway.
read a lot, but nothing new.
fine i shall go sign up for nationstates. i suppose i have nothing better to do anyway.
At this moment I am sorta watching Pride and Predjudice and sorta writing.
found this at book a minute+liked so here it is…
A tale of two cities
Doctor released,
Marquis deceased,
Darnay acquitted,
Monarchy submitted,
Marriage announced,
Darnay denounced,
Places are switched,
Blades are twitched,
Seamstress cries,
Carton dies.
yeah!!!!!! *laughsandscreamshysterically* i don’t get it…
have you read a tale of two cities? book-a-minute is only funny if you’ve actually read the books…
oh….
FREE VIRTUAL CHOKLIT!! COME GET YOUR FREE VIRTUAL CHOKLIT!!!

i watched the 3 musketeers again. disney version. real disney, not the cartoon. goooood movie. yayness.
ok if you post on here i will give you virtual choklit!!!!
Choklit?!!?? Where?!!??
I’m literally not reading or watching anything. I’m being incredibly lazy. Okay, I saw part of The Silence of the Lambs today. Not a pleasant movie. I do not recommend it, ecpecially if stories of cannabalism offend you, or you get bothered when you hear about psychopathis killers who….well, I won’t tell you what the psychopathic killers do. Really creepy.
yaaay virtual choklit for montgomerygurl!!!
*whoosh*
*CHOKLIT flies in and kills the psychopath killer that walked out of the screen*
I just read Flowers for Algernon. It was really good, but sad.
I got the 12th series of unfortunate events book from the library today…
i love those books. they’re so depressing they’re funny.
anyhoo, I’m about halfway through, and it’s pretty good so far. my fav is still the 7th or maybe 8th and 8th or maybe 9th (i’m not good w/remembering # order…it’s the one w/ the elevator and the one w/the crows…)
my dad stole 1776 back from me…i foolishly left it on top of my desk…
now i’ll have to go find it again.
oh yeah, skool book club friday. princess bride. good book.
oh yeah and somebody there is like the cousin or something of william goldman.
anyhoo g2g now
Kricket, MG, and phoenix seem to be the only ones on this thread now…
*sniffsob*
anyhoo, watching totally awesome movie in english now-the dead poet’s society. anybody seen it?
it rocks. so far. I’ve only actually seen about 45 min. of it…
and we’re gonna start watching jason and the argonauts in meh latin meh. see words thread for explanation of the mehs. the really bad one that i saw ages ago and have hated ever since…
LAST NIGHT OF STAYING UP RIDICULOUSLY LATE DOING HW! until monday that is… *sigh* then 4 more days of staying up ridiculously late…then weekend…4 more days of staying up ridiculously late…then CHRISTMAS VACATION!!! so i can worry about finishing my huge english project so i can present the monday we get back. oh the joys of public schooling in america. especially with the evil overlord of the dungeon.
Has anyone on here read Tithe or Valiant by Holly Black? I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!!!
nope.
I haven’t read those, RRF. What are they like?
I just finished reading a book that I thought was pretty good but not great — Chasing Vermeer. The story bugged me because the main characters (two kids) solved a mystery by following their hunches and dreams and random ideas. It all seemed so very unlikely that this would work. Still, I must have liked it pretty much because I DID finish reading it.
One thing I liked about it — the story’s illustrations hid clues. You put the clues together and it spelled out a sentence that related to the story.
You probably think it’s weird that I read kids books. Oh well. I read non-kids books too, so I’m not TOTALLY weird. The most recent non-kids book I read was Maigret at the Gai Moulin by Georges Simenon. It’s a murder mystery. I don’t usually read those. Murders upset me. But a friend told me it was good. I can see what she means. It’s written in a telegraphic style. Very elegant. And it gets into the psychology of the characters. So it was interesting. But I don’t think I’ll read any more murder mysteries for a while.
oh those are cool.
hey do you know about the one w/the insects? somebody wrote a book and there were clues in the illustrations that led to certain places, and if you went there you found a little coin-type thingy that you could trade in for this incredibly expensive glittery bug thingy.
lamuth showed us a clip on that. she said there’s supposed to be another one coming out soon too…
i usually finish whatever i’m reading even if it sucks because i’m weird like that and i WILL waste my time reading books like that. trying desperately to remember some title names but can’t think of any. I know books like that exist though and i’ve read them all the way through just because…
so what was the sentence?
hey kid’s books rock! their also very short and small and convenient for reading quickly when you’re supposed to be shelving books. (this i learned last summer at the library)
No, what’s the one with insects??
This one involved frogs.
SPOILER AHEAD
FOR THE BOOK CHASING VERMEER:
SCROLL PAST THIS COMMENT
IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ
THE PUZZLE’S SOLUTION
The sentence was:
The lady lives.
It makes sense if you’ve read the book…
I used to work shelving books in a library too. (When I was in high school.) The children’s book section was way more interesting than the adult’s.
OK. Now I have to finish up my work. So I can’t distract YOU from your homework anymore, Ebeth
I don’t remember what it was called…i just remember you had to go find the little coin thingys and get the shiny valuable insect. oh yeah and there was a funny clip of a strange lady in a bug costume reading to a bunch of scary midgets *ahem* little kids.
i love frogs.
that was random.
ooh i know how to make a frog that jumps out of paper! it’s cool…
yet again, randomness…
O me miseram! oh vell. back to verb exercises *sigh*
I’m going to see the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in a week. It opens a week from Friday. A local Christian school actually booked the theater for a pre-showing and the first showing so the entire school could go, and they nicely invited any home-schoolers who wanted to come along, because they had extra seats. I’m going to get to see it before it even opens!!!!! Maybe. I might not, because if my brother’s team wins this game they go on to the state championship, which is that day. So if they win I miss the movie. But if they lose everyone at my house is really ticked off. So I really don’t know which one to hope for. JK, I’m always for my brother.
sweetness! i’m gonna see that too. when i t comes out. at least from the preview you can see that they know how to do snow. lol! fingers crossed they don’t totally destroy it…
oh yeah we had book club today too. princess bride. we just talked about what a jerk he was and the we watched the movie, from the swordfight to the fire swamp.
I SAW HORNBLOWER LAST NIGHT!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yaaaaaay! happy days…
and we rented a whole bunch of other movies too so i’ll be ranting on here a lot this weekend.
i watched it with my mom. watching movies with my mom is always interesting. you hear sooo many random funny comments. like this one last night when simpson was beating him up…
mom: why are they doing that? that’s mean!
me: because simpson’s deranged and the rest are afraid of him.
mom: but he’s so CUTE!
me: so? that doesn’t make simpson any less deranged…
mom: oh they’re so mean! i can’t watch this!
my mom says stuff like that a lot “oh i can’t watch this.” but she always stays and watches the rest.
she’s not really as dumb as she sounds there, she just wasn’t paying a lot of attention to the movie. and she likes happy touchy-feely movies where she can cry.
blech.
The Ioan Gruffudd Hornblower, I take it, not the old Gregory Peck version? Did you know that it was made as a series? There are at least two, because I have both of them. I seem to recall a second series, too, so a bit of digging and you can keep your mom weeping and wailing for hours.
And I really hope MontgomeryGurl gets to see LWW. It looks like a good film, as well as being theologically sound. MG, from a moral standpoint, you HAVE to wish for a win for your brother’s team. It’s probably very important to him. But it might be worth just mentioning that if the family wants to celebrate, there’s this great film just released……..
yeah, ioan gruffudd. wow that is a cool name. seriously. say it five times. ioan gruffudd. ioan gruffudd. ioan gruffudd. ioan gruffudd. ioan gruffudd.
isn’t that fun! how many people think that’s fun?
aka how many people are so easily amused it’s sad?
ooh! that’s me! me! me!
My brother lost last night *sobs*. But that means I get to see the Chronicles of Narnia *cheers wildly*!!!! But my brother lost *sob*. But Narnia!!!!! Lost. Narnia!!!!! As you can see, I’m kind of split between sadness that my brother’s team didn’t make it to the championship, and delight that I get to see that movie. Delight might win. Oh, I just read PB’s comment, and I know ralize that, morally speaking, I should be devastated. Oh well……
sry for your brother…
…but insanely jealous.
MG, you’re a much better sister than I am. I would be dancing around the room by now. but then my brother doesn’t play football, so i’ve never had the experience of his team almost making the championship…
wait is it football your brother plays or something else? if not, where did i get that? if so, why can i remember stuff like that but never where i put my ipod shuffle? In need of insanity…boris the spider or something. grrr.
hey the book club thing went poof didn’t it? maybe we should do it in the summer or something when people have time…
Actually i think that book is cursed. Nicholas nickleby-i’ve started it 3 times now and never finished it. y’know me? the one who always finishes books even if they suck? and the think is it’s an awesome book! (what i’ve read anyway) so why? i’m gonna start reading that again…and finish it YES! I am a girl with a MISSION!!! I will dissolve the curse! I will banish the evil spells set upon Nicholas nickleby by some random depraved anti-reader! I WILL triumph! The book SHALL BE READ!!!
wow i’ve been ranting for a while haven’t i? i blame my total lack of anything better to do. well actually i have moosic to practice i suppose. hoom.
oh speaking of moosic (this has absolutely nothing to do w/books or movies but whatever) I feel very proud that i can now play jurassic park theme song on my trumpet, using violin music. go me. that song covers my whole range. low g to high c. actually whatever it’s called, the c above the staff. the g below the staff. you may all go ooh aah now.
anyhoo this is a loooooooong post that shall be ending now goodbye
Yes, my brother plays football. You got that idea because it’s footballl season, and I told you he plays football.
ah. I must have a very good memory then. Now what was I gonna say?
hey i started reading master and commander…
wow. hard-core. just got through the 11-pg. tour of the ship. “there’s that sail, and that sail does this, and that holds up the mast, and blahblahblah”
blah! blahblah! blahblahblah!
still pretty cool though.
yes i’m obssessed. I blame muse, hornblower, my dad, and choklithotpinkbunneez. you guys are all in this together aren’t you? ADMIT IT!!!
oh and i’m gonna give you all a nice rant tomorrow cuz we’re watching another movie tonight. (yes i know we’re on a craze aren’t we?) actually no rant today cuz we were gonna watch temple of doom but the stupid dvd from the library was all scratched. grr. plus our dvd player’s messed too. baaaaad combo. *sigh* oh vell. so anyway mom’s pick-mansfield park or persuasion.
I have a strange feeling i post too much on here. oh vell. i like to rant about books+movies.
……. i have nothing to say
I just read a book called Rhapsody by somone-I-forget-who (SIFG for future referance). It is a very good and nice book– once you get past the prologue, which is nessesary to the plot but DISGUSTING. Otherwise i like it, but it never explains one thing. In the book, the heroes go through the center of the Earth. it takes 1400 years, and they don’t age, and don’t notice the passage of time. In the middle of the Earth a giant, primordial form of fire is blocking the path, so Rhapsody (main charecter) sings the fire into beliving that they are one with it, and they go through. Anyway, they each get reborn, Rhapsody’s companions are born of Earth, although in differant ways, and Rhapsody is born of Fire. but the whole point of the book is a prophecy (again) in which one is of blood, ONE is of earth, and one is of the sky. does this make sense to you? the one of blood loses his blood power! and Rhapsody can control fire, but the point of the book is that the people who serve Fire are evil. Although she serves star fire, so that is explained, but the whole blood/earth/sky thingie isn’t. Oh, well, just a great book. And here is a summary of the prologue, omitting some stuff, so you don’t have to read it: boy named Gwydion gets taken back in time. Meets girl called Emily. Falls in love. She falls in love with him, which makes no sense as they are both 14. Anyway, they get sort of betrothed and then Gwydion gets taken foward in time again. Finds out that her homeland was destroyed and she was not on one of the ships escaping. Gets mortally depressed.
PB, you migth like the stravaganza series. there is a very funny elizabethan english speaking guy in it.
Who is PB?
Paul Baker, I suspect. A.k.a. PB&J.
P.S. A book I’d recommend, if you can find it: The Origin, by Irving Stone. It’s a novel based on the life of Charles Darwin. There’s even a nice love story in it–with Darwin’s wife Emma, who, like some MuseBloggers, had religious problems with his theory of evolution.
It was published in 1980, but libraries might have it.
Has anyone on here ever seen Napoleon Dynamite? I’ve heard a lot about it, and I think I’m eventually going to have to see it, just so I can know what all my friends are talking about. I was just wondering if anyone saw it and liked it. It looks funny from the comercials I’ve seen.
yeah i saw it. actually it was really disappointing. it’s not a bad movie, it’s pretty funny and all, but from the way some people talk about it you think it’s the greatest movie of all time and it’s not. So yes it’s good and yes you should see it cuz it’s cool but don’t listen to the obssessed.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGWOW!!
we finished the dead poet’s society in english. OMG THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!!!!! WOW!!!!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
I hate Napolean Dynamite. Everyone is like “LOLOSFBSKDJGKVMAKJESM DGDIT ROXXXXSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LOLZ!!!!11111one”
I’ve seen it. It’s not as good as everyone makes it out to be.
to be fair, it’s not actually a bad movie, it’s just you always go in with super-high expectations that it won’t meet. people hype it waaaaay too much.
ok, LONG TIME…….
The Chronicles of Narnia…… some of the best books in the world!!! I really like the Magician’s Nephew, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and the Last Battle…. anyway, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe movie’s supposed to be in WY soon, and I want to see it even more than i want a remake of the HP 4 movie (and that is saying something) especially cause i’ve seen the old movie that was made way long time ago, and the… the … everything was OLD! color – no cg figures, no comp animation except claymation…… the witch was….. erm….. ah….. i won’t say what i’m thinking….. edmund looked older tha peter…….and what the heck was up w/ Aslan & the way he talked? (*open mouth* bla bla bla bla bla *close mouth*) any way….. wanna see da new one wanna see da new one wanna see da new one wanna see da new one……
Hey, anyone seen Zathura yet? it followed the book really well…..
Ya know, i don’t really care if they don’t follow the book (!!!) it looks good, and so it shall be….. anyway… it WILL be better than the old one…
comment 203 – i joined! i am now um… forgot my country heh heh
well anyway, i am glad i remembered….. i’m Narani. base on the chronicles of narnia and all that.
I think it was the hype that killed it for me. And because I hate anything everyone loves. Usually. Like Finding Nemo. Blah.
i want to see that movie (Chronicles of Narnia)!!!!!! the books are so good!!!!!!!!
oooh i saw the old one too. it was soooooooooo funny! my lb and i spent a whole 3 days afterward laughing at it!
The thing w/books and movies like napoleon dynamite, is people rant about it so you go see it expecting this amazing movie and then you go meh. bleh. but what you have to do w/books+movies is go in with no expectation at all. Just don’t even have an opinion. Don’t even say “well this person thinks it’s good” Just wait. and then it’s ok.
I reread a seperate peace last night because A-I was bored B-I couldn’t sleep and C-I have a test on it today.
so i’ll be on tonight ranting about the evil overlord and how evil her tests are. at least i won’t spend time looking through the book for stuff. maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe i can get an a. maaaaaaaaaaaybe. *fingerscrossed*
anyone seen Zathura yet? (come’on people, i’m in Wyoming….)
And i didn’t like napolean dynamite all that much. finding nemo was really bad.
heh heh…..
what’s Zathura? is it any good?
*sigh* once again people, either you didn’t like napoleon dynamite or you were obssessed. The obssessed people raised everybody’s expectations waaaaaaaay too high. and I promise that is the last time i will say that! Promise promise promise!
well…i can guess i didn’t get an a. the objective was ok, about 25 qs, 10, 15 minutes.
And then…came the EIGHT essay questions. three at least a third of a page (and i’m thinking that was probably too short…), and then there were five obscure quotes to explain which i know i didn’t write enough on. Deep questions too. There. Is. No. Bleepin. Way. I. Got. An. A. (heh…at least i can rhyme!)
still desperately wanting to see the next hornblower. maybe i can run to the library tonight since i’m done w/hw. (at 6:30??!! a miracle!!!! huzzah for tests, extra time in science, and study hall (ok i didn’t really work in study hall either. well. a little bit.)) but knowing my mom, she’ll probably feel really guilty for me and tell me to get going on my project. *sigh* good news on that though, the OSU library has that phineas gage book and she’s gonna take me there to get stuffins. (she can’t check it out for some odd reason that we don’t know, so i have to go there.)
hoom. this is more of a general ramble than a books+movies post. maybe it should be on dec. blizzard. oh vell. i’d better bribe the GAPA…
*virtual choklit*
Thanks for the choklit.
I’m not sure if the crack about Finding Nemo was a joke or not, but I will say that Finding Nemo was hillarious, especially when Dori tried to speck whale. I almost died laughing.
*gasp* I love Dori!!!
hey guys…skool book club’s reading the historian over christmas…i’m gonna read it during the insanely long car ride…wheeee.
I wanted to go to the library today and get the next hornblower but noooo, my dad wouldn’t go. (you have to be 16 to check out movies at my library) and then i said “well ok i’ll go and get the historian then” and he was like “no you can’t walk by yourself” i’m like “it’s a whole block and a half!!!!!” but he’s like “noooo”
grr.
so, seeing as i really have nothing better to do (ok that’s a lie-i have a project to do, unless i want to do it over christmas, which i don’t. but..but…the urge to procrastinate rises within me…i will not be able to resist…it is drawing me in…in to the void of nothingness…an empty, wasted life. woohoo! sounds fun. ok sry for the emo moment. where was i anyway? oh yes. ending the parentheses) so anyway i’ll probably watch national treasure again or something. or maybe go read. what would i read? hoom…
ok. books i am reading right now…
barchester towers
stalky+co (yesss yesss precious we always is reading that)
les miserables (another loooong french book. it is the Curse of Getting Into Dumas)
1776 (still! haven’t been reading that much actually..gotta go find it…)
mansfield park
stalky+co and mansfield park are rereads, les mis, 1776, and barchester towers are first time. so come on people, what should i read now?
OR should i watch national treasure?
My happieness is in your hands. Please don’t wreck it.
CHOOSE SWIFTLY!!!!!
yeah i spleled happiness rong didn’t i? whoops. had a sudden mind blank.
oh yes and sry for another long post too. have some more bribes…*ahem* i mean virtual choklit.
Ebeth – WHAT IS ZATHURA?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! oh, come’on, Wyoming, where are you not to know what Zathura is ?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?! grrrr…… Jumanji? it’s like jumanji, only space, not jungle, and 2 boys, not 2adults, 1boy, and a girl.
oh i saw a preview for jumanji. ok then.
National Treasure definately…… but of course it’s up to you!!!! *whispers* go for National Treasure!!!!
Jumanji is a bok, quite a good one though it’s a picture book.
Is anyone else going to see Narnia tonight?
sadly, nain. But I want to see it.
I saw it, I saw it!!!!!!! It was really incredible. All the acting was great, I can’t think of a single character, or even scene, that could have been acted better. Lucy was especially incredible. She was totally believable. All the special effects were great, the animals were all believable. Aslan was well done, and the beavers were incredbily cute. It kept all the main parts, didn’t add in much (though it did compact some parts, cutting out a lot of the time that it took the kids and beavers to make it to Aslan), and it kept all the good lines. It was super good, everyone should go see it.
no. so sad. my mom invited over a bunch of work friends. this means…*gasp* cleaning my room!!! *sob*
I WANT TO SEE NARNIA!!!!!!!!!! *weeps*
officially bored…
you can write it any where…… i’m talking to kittykat just so you know….
i want to see narnia too and i will go soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeah!!!!!!
hi
i think it’s waiting for someone else to type…. sry phone conversations
ack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are the GAPA’s out frolicking? i can’t see my friend’s comments!!
I think the MAPs frolick an awful lot for grown adults. There comes a certain point where frolicking is no longer acceptable. Now, if you were out doing important things, that would be different. But frolicking, definite no no.
aw come on, frolicking’s fun.
besides if they didn’t frolic they wouldn’t be the Frolicking GAPAs. They’d be Mr. Coontz and Ms. Specter, the resposible administrators and adults with normal lives who are on the blog because they are Nurturing and Educating the Generation of Tomorrow, not because we’re insane and crazy and we give them choklit.
And that would be no fun at all.
so frolicking is an absolute necessity. i frolic as much as possible. wwwoooohooooooo!!!!!!! CHOKLIT!!!!!! YAAAAY!!! *frolic frolic*
I’m a Frolicking GAPA. Yay! Gotta go do some cartwheels and eat some chocklit. Bye for now.
hey guys…i got another book from the library…stranger in a strange land. it’s interesting.
oh and i finished mansfield park and stalky+co(again) go me.
“Evil. Never. Wins.”
“Not today Zurg”
“Evil Emperor Zurg, by the authority of star command…”
“Section something something something”
“You are under arrest!”
yay funness. we’re watching buzz lightyear. me and a mini. the daughter of somebody who works w/my mom. named Nora. Toy story freak. yesssss toy story rules it does precious.

“To Infinity…AND BEYOND!!!!!!”
heh. couldn’t resist.
I like toy story!!!!!!! its cool, and funny. i like buzz, and woody, but i really like slinky and potata head. i like them all but really slinky. finding nemo was funny, especially the part with the surfer turtles. i laughed hard durring that part!!!!!!!
ooh finding nemo…love dori.
*gasp* let’s have a random disney movie rant/make fun of thread!!!
cuz come on, admit it, sometimes you just HAVE to make fun of them. even the ones that rock.

I guess I was out frolicking last night, if “frolicking” includes seeing the Narnia movie with a bunch of other science writers. (Yes, we travel in packs.) I thought the movie was very good. I won’t say more, because I don’t want to bias the MuseBlog discussion, which I’m eager to read.
I liked “Finding Nemo” a lot, as well as “Toy Story 2” (which I thought was at least ten times as good as the original “Toy Story”).
toy story-the one movie where the sequel doesn’t suck.
unless it’s pre-planned. like a series…star wars or something.
ooh. very frolicky.
i might see it tomorrow. yessss yesssss. we willl! maybe…but no…we will! we WILL!!! we will not let evil people stop us! yessss
guuuuys…been reading stranger in a strange land…got a killer quote for my project yessss.don’t remember exactly what it was. it was like “man is the creature who laughs” or something. the guy was trying to explain exactly what men were. anyhoo. yes. good stuff. i’ll say it dramatically and slowly too. at least five seconds long, maybe i can stretch it to 8. yesssss…not to mention the extreme monty python quoting that will take up plenty of time (no need to memorize. i already know the whole movie! whee!) and it takes a while to say “the prefrontal cortex” too. which i plan on saying a lot. yessss. rant over now.
no it goes like this…
JOY JOY JOY JOY down in my heart! YES! Down in my heart! oh yes there’s JOY JOY JOY JOY down in my heart! YES! down in my heart todayyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!
hem hem…. thank you thank you….. hey that’s still frolicking!!!!!!! evillllll…… a bunch of my youth group people are going today, but i had to go to Vespers….
I loved the movie soooooooooo much. I thought it was really cool how they began it. It was really moving and made you understand the kids and what they were feeling better. The bombs coming down, poor Lucy in bed too scared to move, it was all great. I liked how they had Lucy pull off the sheet from on top of the wardrobe. It was cool how they did that. When Edmund is in jail with Mr. Tumnus, and the whole time we know that Mr. Tumnus saved Lucy and is only in jail because of Edmund, and that look of hurt and confusion he gave Edmund when the witch told him that Edmund turned him in…..it was very affecting. The part where Aslan got killed almost had me crying, mainly because of the Christian symbolism. It was so well done, and the girls acted that scene really well. I loved the whole movie. They did such a good job of making you care about the characters!!!!! I couldn’t stand the thought of poor Mr. Tumnus rotting away.
grrr i want to see that. can’t tonight, but maybe tomorrow.
AAAARRRGH!!!!!
you people…
my friend is not emailing me…she said she would email me…so there’d better be somebody on here to talk to…cuz i’m really bored…
I just read The Red Tent, and I am FUMING! Well, I read the first half, when my mom found me reading it she practically had an apoplectic fit. If anyone wrote about Christian or Muslim of Bhuddist religion and HISTORY in that horrible, biased way they’d hear something about it! It described the Lord as a “mountain god” who wanted HUMAN SACRIFICE! And it said Judism is Paeganistic and has these nasty rituals and forced marrige and lots of NASTY things.
Yes, people do write about Judaism in horrible ways. They also do the same thing to Christianity. I don’t know why. Or, I do, but it’s for Hot Topics. Anyway, it’s stupid, and should be stopped. Unfortunately people will always write horrible unfair lies about things they don’t like.
It just drives me insane. Some people read books like The Red Tent and Queenmaker and take it literally. Let me just clear up a few issues here (I’m on a rool, MG, can’t transfer this now):
1) Judism is MONOTHEISTIC!
2) Jacob was not a pervert.
3) The Lord is the supreme ruler of the world. Not a mountain god.
4) Jews don’t stick woman in red tents to pray to some godess during thier menstrual cycle.
5) Rachel and Leah were a LOT older than 9 when they got married.
And many others. Grr.
oops, I mean roll.
‘people are strange when you’re a stranger…..’

YEEAAAH! (can we have a narnia thread for the books and movie?)
started re-reading all the narnia books in Preparation (not that i wouldn’t go see it now before i finished the books if i could) Finished magician’s nephew (yes reading them ALL. in chronological order) and halfway through lww.
read some more of les miserables too. huzzah for long french books. got to whatever it’s called…part 2? book 2? whatever it is…the big sections. the second one. yeah. so far so good. me likez.
haven’t seen any movies lately…but seen clips + behind the scenes stuff…all the random stuff lamuth shows us when we get extra time. saw one about king kong, one about architecture, and one about spongebob squarepants. interesting…
omg and just before the bell rang she skipped ahead to this one part where they interviewed the guy that does the voice, and it was soooo funny cuz he’d just be talking y’know and then he’d like demonstrate something and it seemed soooo weird to see a relatively normal guy doing that strange annoying voice it was soooo hilariously funny!!! yesss!!!
today’s presentations were all about hippies…one about vietnam protest music (whopee we’re all gonna die!!! thought that song was funny in a twisted ironic way. anyhoo…) and one about woodstock.
I just saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
WORST.MOVIE.EVER.
There was absolutely no emotion. None. They said “I love you” like “Please pass the salt.” I was really convinced. The only scene where there was the slightest hint of emotion was in one of the last scenes with Obi Won Kenobi.
The whole movie was outrageous, and the dialouge was terrible. I was cracking up the entire time, though. A definite win for Best Comedy.
Pheonix, Rivka was 3 when she got married, and it was to a forty year old man. Things were a bit ‘different’ back then.
Ooh, Country Joe and the Fish.
“and it’s one, two, three, what are we fighting for?
well, I don’t give a damn,
next stop is Vietnam
and it’s five, six, seven
open up the pearly gates
well there ain’t no time to wonder why
woopie! we’re all gonna die!“…
Good song. Did you happen to listen to Alice’s Restaurant, by any chance? You should. And Coming into Los Angeles, by the same guy (Arlo Guthrie, son of Woodie Guthrie, writer of This Land is Your Land, among others).
We have the woodstock cd. it’s good.
(okay, the post I’m replying to was december 14, but hey, better late than never, right?)
Oh, and by the way, Eragon is a horrible book.
it was addicting though. and it can’t possibly be worse then those stupid pern books. they had absolutely no plot, the characters were are the same, and the whole social structure of the dragonriders was based completely on- well never mind. you get the point. they were stupid. all these stupid books are giving dragonriders a bad reputation. lets write some new ones.how come nobody’s rread watership down? except for phonix? oh no, i can’t spell pheonix! phoenix? yes! i think that last one is right. has anybody ever read the great good thing by rodrick towney? i missed 3rd through 7th period today because i had my 1st bicuspid on my right hand side pulled and my impacted 2nd bicuspid on my left side removed and now i have stiches in my mouth and it hurts! oops, that wasn’t related to books. oh well. im reading inkspell now. my friend wont read it because she hated inkheart because she hated corneila funke’s style and she thought that it took to long to get to the climax. which is ridiculous because CF has a great style and climaxes are supposed to come late in the book because otherwise the rest of the book would be boring and it made no sense but oh well. fenglio (cant spell that either) didn’t know his characters very well. he should have gotten to know them while he was writing the book. i talk to my characters all the time. of couse, not while we’re writing. often my main charecter will come over and start hitting me with the script and tell me to fix the plot or whatever.by now you all will think me very weird, but i dont care because that is the definition of a muser: very, or at least slightly weird.
I liked the dragonriders of pern books; they were fairly well written, had a decent plot, characters were fleshed out okay, and only a few chapters per book were.. adult, shall we say…
Eragon, on the other hand, was horribly written, and plagerized- apparently the entire plot was taken from Star Wars, and I think someone on here was saying it took whole sections straight from the Belgariad.. Also, his dialogue was horribly written and a lot of his stuff was redundant- ‘”sorry,” Brom apologized’ (well, duh, he’s apologizing if he’s saying sorry) – and you could tell that it was written by a high schooler, and that is a bad thing. I mean, I have nothing against high schoolers writing books; however, if they’re published, one would expect the writing quality to be above English 1, yes? And it wasn’t even that interesting. And I wasted 20 dollars on buying it when it first came out because everyone else was reading it.. argh..
I agree with lizzie. That book was quite boring. I am currently attempting to read the second book, “Eldest” but am struggling with it because it is sooo boring! I thought Inkheart was not very good, but I think Thief Lord and Dragon Rider are okay.
The author of Eragon and Eldest is 19.
I’m currently on a Pratchett high. Can’t read anything else.
She wasn’t 3. It was a statement on how she was mentally mature for her age. Getting pregnant at 3 (well, a bit older) is impossible!
ERAGON IS PLAGERIZED! I was reading it, and the scene in Eldest with the water ball is copied WORD FOR WORD from the Belgariad. Plus the Gedwey Ignasia is like the Orb mark. ANd lots, lots more!
Oh yeah, and the dragons in Pern stink. If you were a dragon would you let a miniscule little PERSON ride you? I don’t think so. Well, unless they were worthy, wich dosn’t explain how F’lar got Mnemenanth, or whatever his name was. And if boys can get female dragons (greens) why can’t girls get blues and browns? I would like a blue, then a brown, (bronzes ARE only for boys, male version of Queens) but NEVER a gold or, almost as bad, a green. You all know why…
paolini is 21. yes, his books were plagerized fron star wars and belariad and lotr and whatever. in the end murtagh will probably kill galbatorix and then die, after having a duel with eragon and then realizing that he doesn’t want to be evil. but his writing level was higher than english one, and apologized is not redundent.
Okay fine, those pern books were good, but i still hated them. i would want to have a male dragon too, but i think the point of matching them up that way was so you could love the person your dragon mated with. but why did some people get perfect lives but brekke’s was really sad? and those dragons were stupid. except ruth. i liked ruth.
why is it that the only people who like popular books are the ones who only read popular books? why do people tell you that a book is really bad right after you tell them you liked it? it makes them feel like they have bad taste. why did this girl tell me she wanted to eat my rabbits right after she spent all this time holding them and saying how cute they were? and then this other girl came in and said her guinea pig had died and everybody started saying that they wanted to eat rabbits too? is it cool now to make people feel bad?
please excuse my bad grammer.
I think I’ve read Dragons of Pern. Name a character.
You’re right Phoenix. She waited until she was 13.
if you want to be a writer, or you want to know about writing, or if you really like one of the authors mentioned below, you should read this interview by tamora pierce, phillip pullman, and christopher paolini. ( i think someone decided that they are the most notable popular children’s fantasy writers right now, and i want to know who.)even if you hate paolini, you should read it anyway. its really just a phone conversation about writing, they mostly ignore the interveiwer. unfortunatly, the only way i know how to get it is to go to http://www.alagaesia.com and click on news, and then click on “Philip Pullman, Tamora Pierce, and Christopher Paolini Talk Fantasy Fiction”
You can go directly to the interview by clicking here. –Admin.
Now I know I’ve read Dragons of Pern.
The first and second books were good, although I hated both endings. She suddenly became a Journeywoman after a week? Boys had been there for years and stayed apprentices! I didn’t like the third book. She seemed so distant from the boy (I can’t remember any of their names!), and treated him like a little boy she babysat for extra money. Didn’t seem to me that the JourneyPeople got to much music. All they did was travel.
now that is sad. I’m telling you, Issac was NOT A PERVERT!
wow, thanks GAPA.
Who was Isaac? Wait….he was Abraham’s son. Yes!!! Yes!!! I got it right!!! *does happy dance* What are you saying was sad? That someone said she waited until she was thirteen? I don’t see anything wrong with it, things were different then. By the time they’re thirteen, girls are pretty much matured. Throughout history they have married at that age, there’s nothing perverted about it.
Phoenix, I spent over a month learning about him. Zyviva and I pretty much got a perverted impression. Then gain, we both have perverted minds. I know Yitzchak wasn’t really perverted, but if you don’t read into it, it certainly seems that way.
I’m telling you, she was an adult before she had children! a three-year-old child couldn’t have carried a jug full of water, those things are two feet high! I’m learning this, remember?
On the whole Eragon thing, people forget how common the themes he’s using are, and pass it off as plagiarism. Or maybe I’m wrong and Chistopher Paolini is a terrible person bent on world destruction. Really, who draws the line between influenced and copied? Somethings are blatant…or are they?
:mystical music in the backround as Axa evaporates.:
Yesssssssss.
I know of a girl who got pregnent at thirteen..
And Paolini was 15 when he wrote the first book. And it shows. Badly. Okay, so maybe his writing level was English 2.
Well, F’non was going to fly his brown dragon, so browns are also sort of like bronzes. See, I think it’s fairly evident that the boys who get greens (and also blues) are homosexual; the way the dragons go at the hatching I think is based a lot on personality, and matching the dragons to riders with similar personalities. it was sort of a mutual bond thingy- I forget what it’s called- mutualism? The humans got a transport system and a way to fight the biggest peril their planet would face, and the dragons got someone to care for them or something.. The dragons actually were manufactored from fire lizards to give the humans a weapon to fight Thread with, though, so you could argue that they allowed the humans to ride them and direct them because they were bred to it.. Really, my favorite characters in those books were the Harpers, though…
Were those books about firelizards or dragons?
Who are we talking about? Rachel wasn’t 3. That was Rivka.
It’s obvious how inexperienced Paulini was in the beginning. His writing gets mmuch better in Eldest, though.
I GOT THE BELGARIAD FROM THE LIBRARY!!! YAY!!! Well, half of it, anyway… The other half was checked out.
I started Eragon even before I’d read LOTR or the Belgariad or any of that other stuff. Even the writing was terrible. I managed to read approximately 80 pages before throwing it at the wall in despair. THE GUY CANNOT WRITE FANTASY. Or anything is my guess, but that’s just RRF being mean.
If I can write a halfway-done, halfway-decent fantasy only sligtly ripped off from LOTR (in that it has huge battles and elves. Most epic fantasy is slightly ripped off from LOTR, though.), why can’t so many published authors? This cannot be good for the genre in general.
Never read Pern.
What non-fantasy stuff does everyone like? Just curious. I ♥ fantasy, too. Personally, of the non-fantasy stuff, I really like The Outsiders (and S.E. Hinton wrote THAT when she was 15. Paolini’s tender years are not an excuse.) and Speak (goodbookgoodbookgoodbook)(but extremely depressing at the same time)
Um, I like Holes. I don’t really read non-fantasy. Pretty sad.
TERRY PRATCHETT PEOPLE! If you aren’t completely in love with him, read 1 of his books, and you’ll bo hooked.
I like classics, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and all those people. I love fantasy, but Austen and Dickens are so funny, they’re propelled higher than mere imaginings. *strikes superior pose and looks down nose at everyone who loves fantasy more than good classics*
Male riders with female dragons aren’t homosexual nessesarily, ‘member that guy who stabbed F/nor when his dragon was in heat because there wern’t any women around? You don’t nesssesarily fall in love or whatever wwith the person who rides the other dragon, it is just a…well… you know. And women can’t have male dragons b/c of Kitty Ping, who made it so that woman had to have queens, triggering the sexism of Pern. I might like a white dragon, but maybe next brown or blue, actually.
Tamora Pierce, Terry Pratchett, JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling, etc.
Now I know why I like talking with you. We all are similarly obsessive.
no, he stabbed F’nor because his dragon was in heat, which made him touchy. Just annoy someone with PMS and you’ll get the idea…
I’ve been reading Seabiscuit for English and I actually like it a whole lot…
I like Jane Austen too, especially Pride and Prejudice. Lately I’ve been reading an author who reminds me of Jane Austen — Georgette Heyer. She writes like Austen (even though she’s a 20th century author) but the stories are a little more lighthearted. Her books have the reputation of being just trashy fluff — she invented the “regency romance” genre. But it’s not true. “Fustian nonsense,” as Heyer’s characters would say. The books are not just fluff. If they are, they’re great fluff!
MemyslefyandI, you are awesome.
I love Pride and Predjuduce!
You mean Pride and Prejudice?
Terry Pratchett! The best, most awesomest writer in the entire world.
Hi, Sphinx!
Happy winter solstice! much easier to prepare for Shabbat.
Yeah, I like P&P as well.. I should try reading Persuasion again- last time, I couldn’t get into it.. I think we’re even reading it (P&P) in class this year.. didn’t a movie or something come out based on it recently? Is it any good?
Terry Pratchett is good. Only his books don’t take enough time to read.
Yes, but every minute us enjoyable.
I will admit defeat. My evil plan has failed. Obviously none of you went and read watership down. It is the best book ever. If you still want to read it its by richard adams. I think i will dissapear for a few days.[a bizillion more crying smilys pre-omitted because i didn’t have enough time to write them]
You’ve inspired me, Em. I just haven’t had a chance yet.
I’ll get it out of the Library next time I go if you get out some Terry Pratchett books.
yes!
happy! happy!
:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P
:P?
ive been meaning to read terry prachet anyway, but i made a deal with my friend that i would read them if she read something else(i cant remember what) and she didn’t do it. Also, the Berigariad, who’s it by?
why are not the happy smilies working?
:p?
I like you friend. You can’t break a deal. Get to it!
David Eddings.
OMG it is amazingly funny that you mention the pern books (even if it was a while ago) cuz i y’know i was in florida all that time and Nana just gave me ALL those books!!! YAY!!! anyhoo, she has really bad eyes so she needs large print books so she gave me a whole bunch. I LOVE the harpers. I ♥ robinton. i’m reading the masterharper of pern book right now (yes out of order but it is a prequel anyway. sort of a side book.)
anyhoo. the belgariad ROCKS! and so does les miserables, which i was reading before i was interrupted by a sudden pern craze due to an amazing amount of books suddenly in my hands (they are really good books though too!!!!) yes i know i’m rambling. actually a list of my multi tasking…
typing these rambles
talking about how my dad sounds like the pilsbury doughboy when he says “whee” like that
watching commercials (and a strange movie about santa’s son getting married. y’know, the whole “find mrs. clause” type thing. i’m saying y’know WAY too much now. baaad habit. grr. y’know?)
telling my mom that i’m getting off soon
still reassuring my mom that i’m not going to spend the whole night on the computer.
bye!
BAH!! Cower in fear and wondermwnt at the awesome power of Ray Bradbury. His stories own your existance ♥
Speaking of the Pillsbury Doughboy, who has seen Ghostbusters?
Gasp! Rey Bradbury! I love his books almost more than Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl series. I just finished reading Farenhiet 451 from a ancient, 1983 copy.
I have seen ghost busters. Do you mean the one with the giant marshmallow Pillsbury Doughboy? That was queer… But still awesome.
Isaac Asimov pwns you.
Is it pronounced “pawn” or “pown” anyway?
*coughs delicately* Um, this might be weird, but could people stop using the word “queer” to mean strange or odd? It’s got so many….other…meanings now, it throws me for a loop every time I see it. Maybe we could say odd, strange, bizarre, or distinctive. Sorry, maybe I’m just a freak with a sick mind, but it does bother me.
mmm.. yes, i see what you mean.
#359 — Depends. How do you pronounce “Pwt”?
but queer is such a lovely word… It feels good in the mouth. So do”flojo” and “rascacielos”, meaning “loose” and “skyscraper”, in that order..
And I pronounce pwt “pwhit” to rhyme with twit..
I pronouce it as a sort of “Pwit”, but I could understand doing “Pwut”, or “Poot”.
i think i know, but its hard to desribe. try sayig “poowit” without the vowels.
ARE YOU INSULTING PWT?!?!!!!! DON’T EVER INSULT HIM!!!
Muse should sell a T-shirt that says PWT PWNS. Or maybe a bumper sticker.
YESSSSS! THAT SHOULD HAPPEN!!!!! THAT WOULD BE SOOOOOOOOO AWSOME!!!! EVERYBODY WOULD BE LIKE “WHAT IS THAT?”
I’m not insulting him, I’m describing how I say his name!
im sorry. i get so sensitive about pwt, he’s my favourite muse.
they should make t-shirt for all the Muses. And I am getting together with a few of my friends to buy Ishmaela dn Sphinx a subscription to Muse, as they now resort to stealing mine.
GAPA!! you’ve got it! make the shirt! sell it! make a million dollars! flood the streets with musers chanting “Pwt pwns!!!” yes i would totally buy that! ok calm down…
saw narnia people!!! it rocked!!! yessss. white witch bugged me a bit. not how i imagined her. but it was brill. yes. of course i’m judging kinda against the old one…which was BLEH!!! and i might be just a little bit…biased *gasp* cuz i ♥ the books. but not much. totally awesome movie…beavers rocked…tumnus was exactly how i pictured him. that was pretty frightening actually. ok i can join the ranks of the narnia movie loving musers now right? whee…oh yes and my lb bought the new charlie+the choklit factory movie and it is going to bug me SOOOOO much!!!!
Ebeth: aaaaargh!!! *falls down in anguish and despair*
background music: willy wonka, willy wonka, he’s the greatest chokliteer…
Ebeth: DIE FIEND!!!!! *smashes tv* aaaah much better.
Ebeth’s lb: *comes in with the soundtrack*
Ebeth: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS!
I want a Pwt Pwns T-Shirt!
AEIOU PWNS PWT!!111!!!!one!!42!!!!!
yes! now someone needs to tell muse! ( by the way, italics is made with signs.)
if aeiou helps me with my computer then i will say that she is cool, but she most definitely does not pwn pwt.
pwt is so underrepresented! he’s always depicted as scared or stupid in those koko & co. comics! and he wasn’t even in attack of the smart pies! even bo was in that. grrrrrrr its so not fair. we need to write a letter to mr gonick telling him that we will stage a protest if pwt is not in the next one. we need a pwt pwns thread to honor pwt! (and an art thread and a quoting people thread)
hey people we should seriously just flood she-who-must-not-be-named and the rest of the editor’s inboxes with PWT PWNS!! PWT PWNS!! WE WANT A SHIRT THAT SAYS PWT PWNS!!!! and i bet they’d do it.
aeiou doesn’t pwn pwt. as cool as she is. SHE NEVER TALKS!!! AAAAH!!!!!!!! SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MY COMPLETE BREAKDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so i don’t even like pwt that much but the slogan’s just too good. GAPA, where should we email? or write? WE WANT A SHIRT!! WE WANT A SHIRT!! PWT PWNS!!!
ok about books/movies (since this is the books & movies thread…) i haven’t read/seen anything since i last commented.
see? this post is relevant to the thread! of course!!!! *sneakily hands the GAPAs some virtual christmas cookies*
he was in AotSP- he didn’t do anything, but he was there…
and usually he’s depicted as chasing Craww in the koko&co comics..
PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! PWT PWNS! The way to e-mail the editors is at the address muse@caruspub.com . You can reach Larry Gonick through a form on his site, http://www.larrygonick.com/html/con/con.html. Good luck!
i sent email to the musey peoples. yay go me. i might go watch the count of monte cristo. or maybe not. hoom…
if i do get ready for a rant sometime soon…
saw part 1 of gone w/the wind. we decided not to stay up late and watch the rest. well mom did anyway, and she sent us off to bed. the result is that i’ve listened to spamalot again, gotten over halfway through in inkspell, and lost a couple games of solitare. what fun.
Inkspell-pretty good. I like it better than Inkheart, but not by much. I ♥ dustfinger, as always. Elinor’s not in inkworld yet though. *sniff* I ♥ elinor, she’s so funny. i thought the meggie/farid thing was obvious from inkheart, no suprises there. dustfinger married-now that’s a suprise. doesn’t seem like him. but roxanne’s pretty cool.
gone w/the wind-well i read the book. somewhere waaay up in the comments…aaah can’t find it. i think i talked about it somewhere though. So the movie-only saw the first part, like i said. Wow that’s a good movie. Really close to the book. Probably why it’s four hours long I like part 1 better than part 2 in the book. i dunno if it’ll be the same in the movie. probably will. Oh yes and i saw who clark gable was. cuz i’ve heard all about him and stuff but i’ve never actually seen a movie of his. And then i see the credits at the beginning Rhett Butler……..Clark Gable and i think oh cool i can finally see who this guy is. and then i see him and i’m like woooow. that’s clark gable? nothing against him, but it wasn’t what i expected at all.
Oooooooh yes and The Historian. I can’t find that book anywhere!!! I’m reading it for book club (or trying to anyway) and i don’t want to buy it but everybody in the whole world is reading that! It’s insane!! i’ve been to every library around here and they all have at least three copies with super long waiting lists. My dad signed us up ages ago and we get it in 2 days. so i’ll have that book to rant about soon. yess. oooh and we get to choose books for next semester friday woohoo! (the fri. after i get back i mean) yaaaay.
there’s nothing to do….. has anyone read those Molly Moon books where this girl can hypnotize and stop time with special powers she inherited from her mother… and was stuck in an orphanage and never found her mother untill the end of the second book? i’d ask whether anyone reads the Series of Unfortunate Events books but i know D_Q has…
never heard of that.
i read soue. my cousin’s obsessed.
actually pretty much everybody i know is obssessed with something…some *coughme* with multiple things…
sooo bored.
yea ebeth you like inkheart. dustfinger is so cool. i’ve heart of those molly moon books. i finally got that last bartimaeus book so cool, but i haven’t read it. i watched the princess bride today. indigo is so cool too (i probably spelled that wrong) has anybody read that book. good book, but i wish i could get the unabridged version. i got all of those muses i missed when i forgot to renew my subscription in 04. i think i will wish everybody holiday happiness instead of happy holidays. it sounds so much cooler. did anyone read that phone conversation i mentioned in post 321? probably didn’t. oh well.
“…westley and i are joined by the bonds of love, and you cannot trace that, not with a thousand bloodhounds. and you cannot break it, no with a thousand swords. and when i say you are a coward, it is only because you are the-” oh dear, i have forgotten the rest. a little help here please? i luv the princess bride.
i read the book. and you can’t get the unabridged version cuz he made that stuff up in the beginning about morgenstern and all.
“slimiest weakling ever to crawl the earth!”
“I would not say such things if i were you!!!”
aaaw end of scene. now i have no excuse for further quoting. *pout* plus it’d probably be too long…*sulk*
inigo btw. not indigo. But i call him hokey pokey.
yaaay i ♥ the princess bride…
Thats really strange, why would he do that? Oh well, I always fall for that kind of thing anyway. Like the time I- well nevermind.
I can’t spell. Sorry.
i am going to do that insanely annoying thing where i make up an alter ego and you people try to guess who i am!!!! it’s fun!!! plus i am sooooo bored…. so what’s up guys!!! *snickersnickersnicker* please don’t give me away Robert and Rosanne!!!!
We’ll keep your secret, but we think this whole “alter ego” business is very silly.
you’re ebeth. um sorry, i know i said i would leave, but i really will now. bye..
what isn’t?
silly silly i love silly.
finished gone w/the wind. yes part 1 was better.
grr that ending!!!! mom said she was gonna write a sequel but she died first.
And yes. I am now going to quote the most quoted line in the whole movie.
Franky my dear, I don’t give a d***
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok. aaanyhoo. almost done w/inkspell too. over 3/4ths of the way i think. aaaaand this has nothing to do with books or movies but my mom got a little turtle statue for christmas and she just discovered that it was an ocarina! so we’ve been randomly playing it all afternoon. whee!!! you blow in the tail and the finger holes are on the shell. see before we thought it was just a mini statue and didn’t know what the holes were for until mom found the mouth hole. So yeah. Laugh at us if you want, but i blow the turtlerina in your face with the musical notes that i don’t know how to make…who wants to enlighten me? how do you make music notes on here?
I just saw Memoirs of a Geisha It was so gooooood. It deviated a bit in the details form the book, but what adaptation dosen’t? It was a wonderful movie in its own right, and I loved it.
♥
never heard of it. what is it about?
I just saw Memoirs of a Geisha, too. I thought it was only okay. The accents drove me up the wall, though. Really, it should have been in Chinese (or Japanese, but I’m not that picky). They made it seem all Americanized, which was kind of sad, because I didn’t get that feeling from the book at all.
Whyyyyy does everybody think I’m the alter egos around here? I have never had an alter ego!!!
never seen, never read. my friend sydney’s obssessed though.
been reading the mammoth book of literary anecdotes. got it for christmas. some funny stuff in there! i ♥ twain always. there was a really funny one of his in there that i’d never read before where he sold somebody else’s dog and got paid to bring it back again. and then at the end was the quote (which i had heard before but had no idea what it went to) “Now, that is the tale. Some of it is true.”
♥ ♥ ♥
another thing that was amazing was the number of them on drugs. *shudder* yeah anyway i’ve only read a couple sections so far so you people’ll be hearing menny mor rants on this stuff. really cool stuff. yaaay.
:ahem Japanese ahem: XD Naw, but I understand, since they got mostly Chinese actors for the women. I loved the lady who did Hatsumomo, she was great.
The book/movie was made by Americans, so, you know it can never be enitirely true. I think it was awesome for what it was, but can a story about geisha ever becompletely true to what it is? The world is a secret one, as they said, and I’m sure very few geisha/geiko/maiko are willing to tell.
It’s hard to expalin what the movie is about without typing more than I want to right now, but it’s exactly what the title says: Memoirs of a Geisha.
Hello once more.
If there’s a contest for longest blog entries, I’m probably the current champion. But I doubt it, so let’s get down to business.
Those of you who go to the ideas/requests section often, will know that I am fighting hard to get the Muse makers to create a live action film based on Kokopelli and Company in Attack of the Smart Pies.
So here’s a sample of my script idea.
(It would help the fight if other bloggers posted their own)

THE SCREEN GOES BLACK AGAIN
I’m going to wait till I’ve seen at least three comments on my script idea, before I write anything more.
And in the meantime, please send in your own
ooooh a movie. coooooool!!!
would the muses be animated then or what??
Hi ebeth the lurker!!!! Harry Potter is awesome! So is CALVIN AND HOBBES (yay!) and WALLACE AND GROMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
narnia was good.
I can post some of the Muse Musical (title unknown so far) if you want. It’s not all finished, though. I’ve been terribly remiss in fixing it, but most of the parts are rather good.
I like the movie so far. What’s the theme song? “Up In The Air Junior Birdmen”? “The Brothers Karamazov Cha-Cha?” You’ll have people helplessly cachinnating if we choose something like, oh, I don’t know, “Burning Down The House”. Rolling in the aisles, helpless with mirth.
I vote the llama song just to bug queen j after her horrible confession of hatred!
lol!
Muse Musical? sounds interesting…
what is a Geisha?

I wonder if I can get the MAPs to shut this thread down if I comment on it.
Apparently not…
Cool!!!! Want to helplessly confuse MuseBloggers by getting them into a tangled quandry about which “Book & Movies” thread to comment on?
Yes, let’s.
