Bunnified versions of famous museums? I think you should send them in.

On a bad note, my dad just told me that my uncle committed suicide because he didn’t want his illnesses to be a burden on the rest of his family yesterday during the Kokon. He said that he had some type of cancer, and he was losing teeth, and weight. (Apparently, he was only about 75 pounds when he died. Which is not good for someone in their seventies.)
I just don’t get why he didn’t tell someone, I mean, his neighbor knew, but was just respecting his wishes by not telling someone until after, but if it had been going on for over a year, I just don’t understand why he didn’t ask his family for help. He was living on his own, and didn’t really have anybody living close to him except that one dude… and I really hope no one goes and ransacks his house, because he built it himself.
Then there’s also the fact that he could of done it because of how inconsiderate some teenagers were. The same two guys, about seventeen, burned down his house, and then did it again after he rebuilt it, and again after he rebuilt the house again. I guess the world had it out for him.
I’m going to stop talking about this now.

    OH MAN GUYS

So I’ve mentioned a lot that I play ice hockey, but for those of you who never saw those posts, I do. I played on a club team, which ended a few weeks ago, and I also play for a high school team (not for my school specifically–for a school near me, and on the team are people from schools in the area).

But the high school team in the past has just been average, not a great team but never the worst, but this year we have done AWESOME

And today we had our semi-final game against another nearby school, that almost always wins state.

    AND WE WON!

We’ve never beat them before but we won just when it counted!

I am so excited right now, you have no idea. If we had lost it would have been my last competitive hockey game, ever.

    BUT WE WON
AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS AT THE UNITED CENTER
    WHERE THE BLACKHAWKS PLAY
AND WE’LL BE PLAYING A TEAM WE’VE BEATEN/TIED BEFORE SO WE MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING

AND WE MIGHT (*MIGHT*) GET TO MEET THEM

    *faints*

There is little that could make this week better. Friday all we did in biology for a period and a half was hold and play with ducklings, we got a pet rat earlier in the week, and I actually got to hang out with my friends friday afternoon/night. This makes up so much for the bad news I got wednesday but I am not even going to think about that now.

-sigh- One precious hour of my day–gone. I suppose technically I used it to sleep, but without the benefits of sleep. Meh.

Jadestone- CONGRATULATIONS! That’s great! Good luck!

I’m going to go see some music later today…which throws away another few precious hours of my day, but I want to see it and I’m justifying my actions with the thought of extra credit in Orchestra. …Which I’ll need, since I’m using the time I otherwise would have used to practice to go see it…

I took the SATs yesterday. No test should be five hours long EVER. I also did very poorly on the essay so I might have to retake them next year. EW.

After the SATs I went to see Alice in Wonderland. In plot, it did not disappoint, as I had zero expectations for plot, but…it was depressingly un-pretty. They used WAY too much CGI. I was all excited to see puppetry and costumes and stuff, but everything was CGI. Even the things that didn’t have to be, like Tweedledee and Tweedledum and the card soldiers and chess pieces and the ENTIRE SET. Also, the Frumious Bandersnatch never struck me as a very doglike creature in the book. AND, (last complaint I promise), when the Mad Hatter (have I told you how sick I am of Johnny Depp?–sorry) was reciting Jabberwocky, he was DOING IT WRONG. I was trying to recite it along with him but he kept skipping lines and stuff. Grr.

Oh, flooded basements. Been there, done that. I feel your pain. Just a year or so ago it flooded the worst that I, personally, remember. There was water all over in the main part of the basement, and it had extended down the hall, into the crawlspace, into the laundry room, and a decent bit into the storage room where we still have a crap load of stuff packed up from when we though we were going to move back in 2000. Fortunately most of that didn’t get wet….

Yeah. That was fun. I don’t remember if the washing machine drain backed up, or if it was snow melt that flowed in under the basement door (it has a nasty habit of doing that, if ice builds up outside–pretty sure we had a nice flooded basement when my parents brought me home from the hospital when I was born….Good times.)

Mmm. You know what’s also fun? What’s also fun is when a pipe in your house leaks for as little as a day and a half total while you’re away on vacation, and that results in you being out of your house for at least a half a year, and everything only slowly returning to normal around a year and a quarter later! That’s lovely! It’s just touching to see the trim still not on the walls and still be unable to find things. Absolutely thrilling to have completely lost control of your sleep cycle due to all the stress. Monstrously compellingly satisfying to have lost a great deal of your belongings to simple water damage.

Two boys in my core classes are obsessed with that. I go to an American school, but there are a few English teachers such as our Language Arts teacher and our Science teacher (who is technically a BBC, but she has a strong English accent, so…), and also my PE teacher, but they’re not in my PE class so I don’t know if it applies.

They are always pestering said teachers (Science and LA, at least), to say ‘beer can’ and, said teachers being nice, and awesome, obligingly agree. At least, for the first few times they did, anyway.

And they keep pestering me to say it in my British accent as well. Long story short: I have two accents. My father is English and I use my British accent at home, but somehow when I was younger I subconsciously (or if it was conscious, I just don’t remember) adapted to the American accents of the rest of the students, so now I can do both. And I can switch between the two quite easily, as well. It’s British for home, and American for school, generally. My British is probably more British than my American is American, though, since British is my ‘native’ accent. Does that make sense?

Sometimes I will speak in British to my LA and Science teachers because, well, why would I speak in an American accent to them if they’re English? And also they might like me more because I’m (half) English; for example, one time in Social Studies (where we are learning about American history…:() we were learning the American Revolutionary War and my LA teacher came in and started defending the British, and called on me to help her argue. ‘Twas much fun. Also I use my British accent when my friends and I are talking about HP. It’s much more authentic to be acting HP when you have a British accent. :D

I’m going to buy it and his DVD from his concert tour (“An Evening With John Barrowman”), and add it to my collection: “Music, Music, Music”, “Another Side”, “Aspects of Lloyd-Weber”, “Reflections from Broadway”, “Swings Cole Porter”, “At His Very Best”……lol, I bought all those back in late october, early November shortly after watching all of DW/TW in just two short weeks…..Doubled my number of CDs.

Hmm, accents. There was a thread about the sometime in the not-so-horribly-distant past, but I’m too lazy to look it up and see about resuscitating it. I tend to mirror people’s accents a bit, whether it’s how I normally speak or not. Especially midwestern speech, I pick up on that very quickly, since I already talk like that a bit already. But other accents as well, often I have to remind myself not to start sounding like whoever I’m talking to.

I know what you mean! Depending on who I’m with, I pick up different accents. At home I have a very strong Southern accent, and that is my normal, but I tune it down for school and such because we’re from “sophisticated” Kentucky. I however, was born in Louisiana and I’m stinkin proud! Anyways, at my old school in Germany, I adopted a New Englander accent, because a lot of people came from there. But like you, it’s pretty easy for me to switch back and forth. I don’t do that often, (Since no one around me speaks with the British accent) but when I visit England or if I’m around people who have a British accent, I almost automatically switch back to that. Argh argh argh. school concert rehearsal was a nightmare- for one thing, the auditorium is air conditioned down to, like, -40 F, and everyone was shivering too much to play our instruments. Then two fourth graders think it’s funny to hide for half an hour, so we wasted a bunch of time searching for them, and our teacher eventually called the police and reported them missing, as well as their parents, who showed up completely freaking out and were met with the giggles of their kids. I need saliva to swallow this thing!” By now, I haven’t reacted like that to anything since my expander (a mysterious metal contraption on the roof of my mouth) in second grade, but that didn’t impede my speech that much because it was on the roof of my mouth, rather than the teeth, although my tongue was a bit disoriented at first, but if it’s your first time ever with orthodontia, especially if its a big thing like braces, I’d imagine you’d have a bit of a lisp for a couple of days, but nothing that serious. You get used to it pretty quickly and adapt.

Also, question for those of you with braces since I’ll be getting them in the near future: A lot of my friends had/have them, and it seems to be divided half and half. Some of my friends say that it didn’t hurt at all to be put on, others say it hurt like, um, cake. What do you think? Is this just because they’re either less sensitive to pain or they got a different type of brace or something? Just wondering.

There was one week she was sick, and all of my other friends are high-achievers (I am too, just not in Math XD) so I had no one to ‘procrastinate’ with, and I actually paid attention. Me paying attention = I understand it = I do well on the test. Which I did. However successful one is or judges oneself to be heavily depends on the success of others around you in comparison.

Example A: You know how sometimes when you’re taking a test and you don’t know the answer so you look up at everyone else to see if they know it or not? You feel better if everyone else is looking stumped and clueless; you feel worse if everyone is scribbling away concentratedly as if they know the answer. (It’s not really a good example but heck, whatever.)

Example B: Even if you get a bad grade according to yourself, you are still considered ‘successful’ if everyone else is worse

Something-that-isn’t-an-example-but-I-didn’t-really-know-what-to-call-it: Variation on the Law of Relative Success:

If one hangs around other smart people who get equal or better grades than one, one feels inferior or less successful. If one hangs around people who are less intelligent/hard-working than one and who get worse grades than one, one feels superior and more successful in comparison.

It’s kind of weird, I know, but oh well. It sounds cool when you tell people ‘I’ve invented the Law of Relative Success!’ ‘Cause it sounds kind of like Law of Relativity. I don’t know. I’m just rambling, again.

    • Selenium: On a related note, a recent study showed that people who win bronze medals in the Olympics are happier than people who win silver medals. The reason seems to be that silver medalists think, “Drat! I should have had the gold!” but bronze medalists think “Whew! Glad I didn’t finish fourth!”

85~ No, that makes sense. Though, when one hangs around people who are smart/get good grades/etc. it can also make one feel better about themselves, that the elite group isn’t averse to having them around. Unless it’s just for ego stoking, but in that case they should be avoided no matter what their scholastic abilities.
It’s my opinion that one should spend time with a variety of people, and never feel superior (or inferior) to anyone. Someone may be better at math that I (in fact, that’s just about always the case) but it doesn’t mean I’m a worthless human being. I can do other things. And I may have a nice singing voice, but that doesn’t mean I’m better than someone who can’t sing. It’s just diversity.

You know what? I dislike that my math textbook uses Comic sans to make their problems look friendlier. Blah. I used to kind of like that font, but now it just annoys me. *sigh* I mean, if they wanted to use a different, somewhat “cuter” fond than Times or whatever it is, the could use Verdana or something. Or even Arial. But Comic sans just looks little-kiddish in a textbook. Actually, their illustrations are pathetic too. They tried a bit too hard on the [in sickly sweet voice] “don’t worry, this isn’t scary, it’s nice friendly stuff!! See? Little-kidesque drawings and fonts! No reason to be scared of the Big Bad Geometry now, see?” It’s kind of like the creepy clown or santa or whatever that tries to be cutesy and just ends up being creepy and/or annoying.
I mean, really. It’s Geometry. This is high school material. Please don’t give me stupid word problems about “Freddy the Inventor” and his TV-Toaster. Really. I’m begging you. And the teacher who explains the problems…really, I’m feeling like a dolt enough already for having to watch the step-by-step tutorial, please don’t talk to me like I’m three. IN fact, don’t talk to a three-year-old like that either. They might just kick you in the shin.

    • I know exactly what you mean. I’m in the process of trying to make up for my pathetic math background, and I really appreciate finding mathematicians who can talk sensibly and clearly without trying too hard. Maybe the cutesy approach works for some people, but I much prefer it when the authors appeal to my sense of wonder, beauty, and curiosity. (Silly in a Muserly way is welcome, too, of course, but not that icky, sticky kind you’re talking about.)

You might try looking around in your library for alternative textbooks, see if you can find a better fit. My library has DVDs by The Teaching Company which feature lectures on numerous topics given by top college and high-school professors, but geared toward general audiences, so they tend to focus on the principles and framework behind the subject, at least in the ones I’ve seen so far. That approach works for me, as I like getting some idea of the bigger picture before plunging into the details, especially for something like math. After that, I’m better equipped to go back and forth.

My favorite statement about math comes from the English mathematician Marcus du Sautoy. The book it comes from is at home, so I’ll have to paraphrase. He wasn’t especially keen on maths in school, until a teacher suggested he look at some particular books or journals. The boy became mesmerized by some of what he saw, even though he couldn’t understand much of it, he felt that he was able to hear a little of the real music of mathematics for the first time. He began to understand that what he was learning in class was something like the equivalent of scales and arpeggios.

Then he asked, who could imagine what Mozart would be like if you were never allowed to hear or play anything except scales and arpeggios until you mastered them? Why would anyone want to pursue music if that was their only experience?

As you might guess from the length of this comment, this is something I’m obsessing thinking about a lot these days, having discovered a late-blooming, totally unexpected passion for things mathematical.

MF- Math textbooks are awful like that. They’re either all cutesy pictures or giant tomes of incomprehensible jargon. I have a raging love/hate relationship with my major. Awesome professors can make up for it. And then there’s that glorious moment when you realize that everything you’ve been doing for the past three weeks suddenly makes compleat logical sense and the world is a better place and everything in life is wonderful except of course for this atrocious run-on sentence. Writing proofs is an…experience. Nothing like the sense of accomplishment when you finally express your understanding in words/equations. But, before that, of course, there are several hours of staring at the statement and pouring over countless theorems and lemmas and definitions to find away to make your abstract understanding of the concept surrender to the restraints of written symbols ♥

In my opinion, most textbook writers’ train of thought is:

      A) What is the most boring textbook we’ve published?

      B) Can we make is any more boring?

      If no, go to Cb)

      Ca) Do it.

Cb) Make it more boring anyway.

      D) Yay! Now we’ve disillusioned kids about how fun math isn’t!

But, right now I’m angry at my math class. We’re doing a short geometry unit, without proofs. Humph. I happen to like proofs.

We do use some Teaching Co. courses, and actually have a geometry course, but we fizzled out on watching them. Alas. The thing is, aside from the infuriating sickly sweetness the curriculum I’m using now, it’s not a bad one. In fact, for my situation, it’s probably the best. It’s a book that contains the lessons and problems, and there are DVDs that come along with it and explain every single problem step-by-step if one gets stuck. Which is a brilliant idea, and it’s quite nice for when I’m having issues, since mom is almost as bad at math as I am, and Dad (when he’s available to help me) doesn’t understand that I don’t get it, thus my needing help.
But still, sometimes I’ll watch a problem video and then next time I come to a similar problem I just don’t get it.
Proofs are especially challenging. I get the idea, but actually remembering all the fussy details and getting it all in the right order is crazy.
    Meh.

    • Good for you in being able to see past the sickly sweetness to the greater value. You have more patience than I did at 17. Even now, though I’m enjoying the Teaching Company DVDs, I actually have a hard time sitting and listening to lectures, so I usually need some other activity, such as housecleaning, to occupy the fidgety parts of my brain. Or else I take lots of notes simply as a means of staying focused.

My dad majored in math in college, which wasn’t especially helpful either, at least past the very early grades, both because he couldn’t understand what I wasn’t getting and because his methods often differed from the ones being taught in school (and therefore weren’t allowed) which served only to confuse me more.

hello. I am rather tired and angry at the moment. I am stuck home alone with my sister, which is probably the worst situation I could be in right now, with the best ones being either at the talent show/friend’s house or home alone with only myself. I originally had no intrest in going to the talent show, but then I learned that A.H. (a band some kids at my school started) was playing there, and lots of people (one of which would have been me) were going to sit through the entire talent show just to see the bit by A.H., because unlike many other high school garage bands, they actually have some amount of talent. My parents are going to a hockey game, although they have never expressed any interest in hockey before and so they would have been unable to pick me up afterward, so I am stuck here at home, listening to the one bit of music by A.H. on their myspace band page thing. This usually wouldn’t upset me much, but I only got one hour of sleep last night and the explicit amounts of caffeine I consumed appear to be wearing off, but it’s too light outside to go to sleep yet, so I will remain sulking in my bedroom untill the sky darkens, when I will slip into my restful slumber, only to be woken early tommarow morning for a speech meet. Why I ever joined speech, I really don’t know.

(As in, due attention paid to character emotions and descriptions of places instead of just being mostly dialog and action)

All of my space shuttle posters got blow away in last weekend’s epic wind/rain storm so I printed 5 more out. (The 3 color copies rule applies only to library and computer center printers, not to the special printers owned by my good friend the computer graphics teacher, the one who lets us watch launches on her SmartBoard.) I walked to the library with my friend Hannah, and we taped them up together while telling each other lame SF jokes. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Oh, and I have this really cool binder-folder-thingy with tabbed plastic folders for holding papers on one side, and a space to put a notepad with a holder for a pencil right next to it on the other side that my mom bought me for Mock Trial back in Middle School that I hadn’t used for years. So now I’m using it to research my Star Wars/Space Shuttle story, making photocopies from late 70s/early 80s science books to use as references so I can get the “look” of the era right. Yeah, I’m sure there are still people with VHS tapes and VCRs (or at least VCR/DVD mixes)–we have one, for instance (although the VCR part stopped working–it developed a wee problem where it pulls the tape out of the cassette…..)–but again, bordering on the obsolete….

Now, to be fair, checking the copyright date this edition of my organic textbook (6th edition) was only printed in 2006, so VCRs, for instance, were much more common still than they are now, but…..Still. Floppies were still pretty caking obsolete in 2006. Why don’t the, you know, update things when they get print new editions? Think of something that people are actually going to be using?

But 85% of the Barbie Squad is deeeeeaf! Besides, this one is just becoming self-aware. Here’s how it went:
She: *on an off-topic tangent from Romeo and Juliet* Ohmigod! When I have a kid, I want it to be a girl, and I totally want her to be JUST like me. Like, if she doesn’t like the same kind of stores as me, I’m totally going to kill myself.
        Me: Um, are you sure?
        She: TOTALLY!
Me: But what if your mom wanted you to be just like her? That would kinda suck, right?
She: *face wrinkles up in distaste* Oh, yeah, that would totally suck.
Me: I mean, if you want to do your whole own thing, then you don’t want to stop your kid from, like, being free, right?
        She: Oh… yeah…
Later, in Spanish class, she was reported to muse aloud, “Wow. I would hate to have me as a student. Really. I mean, I must be, like, the suckiest student to have ever, ’cause I talk, like, ALL the time. Wow.”
This is the same girl who has been known to squeal, “Ohmigod! Romeo and Juliet is just like Titanic! It’s like James Cameron gave Shakespeare a message from the future!!” (The part that makes this even sadder is that it was not because of the forbidden-love parallels that she made the connection, but because of Leonardo diCaprio. So here I am, trying to finish all my mythology readings for this coming week and lamenting the fact that i still have 15 or so (which is a lot) pages to go, when all of a sudden: “….Merope.” *double take* Thinking: “Wait, what, Merope? Hang on…..What did it just say about her? How can whatever it just said tie into Merope Gaunt and explain why Rowling chose that name for her?”……”Okay…..It says Merope was the wife of Sisyphus, who in the previous paragraph it says ‘twice cheated Death’. But how does this relate to Merope from HP?…Merope, what did Merope do….Of course! Tom Riddle’s wife! Tom Riddle, who cheated death numerous times with his Horcruxes! Duh!”

    yeah…..That’s how my brain works…..

I spent much of last week trying to tie Cadmus into Harry Potter. Cadmus, grandfather of the god Dionysus, who played a part in Euripides Bacchae which we read last week. And then, of course, in lecture I had a sort of eureka moment, although I still don’t like it as much as my conclusion I just came up with for Merope. In class, our prof was going on about Dionysus, then went on to say that he travelled down to Hades and brought back his mother Semele who had been killed, that he “conquered death”. And of course, those two words “conquered death” obviously trigger flashbacks to the Deathly Hallows (the objects, not the book, although that, too). I immediately thought of the Resurrection Stone, the Deathly Hallow that Cadmus won from Death. Cadmus, who in Greek mythology is Dionysus’ grandfather. Sure, it was Dionysus who “conquered death” by bringing back his mother from the dead, not Cadmus in mythology, but….Still. It seems a bit too much for coincidence….Anyway. yeah. Those are my random musings for the day (until I come across another HP thing).

Yeah…..like right now, because this reminded me that I was musing back near the beginning of class: Our prof mentioned a river by the name of Scamander. Scamander, which also happens to be the last name of the author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in the Potterverse. coincidence? Maybe. maybe not.

Okay, yeah…..I suppose i should actually finish reading this stuff and go to bed, huh?

So, um….Yeah. It would seem that at 2 am my brain does not function well, because as I realized today….Merope was Tom Riddle’s wife, but not the Tom Riddle with the Horcruxes, but rather his father. So the parallel is not quite as strong, in HP Merope was the mother of an individual who cheated death multiple times instaed of the spouse, but….still. concept stands.

I haven’t been that borderline euphoric for a loong time. I had really thought I wasn’t going to be able to go, so when it worked out that I could, I was thrilled. And it was wonderful seeing a bunch of friends again. There’s something really lovely about getting to see people you really like again, and the whole squealing and running into hugs bit is fun too.
And I got to actually play with sails yesterday, which I usually don’t get to do onsite. Now, it was a mess, because the ship’s interpretive staff has undergone huge changes in the past year (since I’ve been there working instead of just stopping to visit), and a lot of them aren’t sailors and don’t really get it. Now, I’m not an expert, but I still see what needs to be done and I know the terms and a handful of commands and the general order of operations. Not to mention that I’ve actually sailed as part of a crew, and that I’m familiar with the ships at Jamestown, seeing as I’ve only been doing things there for 4 years.
Anyway. Setting (and especially taking in) the Elizabeth‘s spritsail was an experience. I kind of wish someone wpuld have been taking pictures that I could then get my hands on, because I was dressed in women’s 17th century clothing (pretty much what I was wearing in the picture in the album “when they’re not on the blog, part 2). On that same ship too, actually.
But anyway, there I was out on the beak (front of the ship) straddling the bowsprit in my petticoats and bending over the water to furl the sail. It would either be badass, or completely hilarious and set me up for ridicule for the rest of my life. But in any case, I do kind of wish I had a picture of it.
But that was just one part of yesterday. Cake, I could write forever about the weekend, I had so much fun.
On Saturday night (and Sunday morning) I sang chanties with some Civil War Navy reenactors I met last year. It was awesome, we sang, talked, did Monty Python skits, told really stupid jokes, laughed our heads off, and just had too much fun to be allowed in general. It was awesome, and I got back to camp (I was crashing in my friend’s tent) at 0130 or so (and then woke up somewhere around 0700. Sleep deprivation, whee).

There was so much, there are so many stories I could tell….oh, among them the explanations for the gash on my forehead and cuts around my eye. There are two. The frist one involves pirates, a swordfight, ninjas, cannibals, and all manner of epicness, that I survived with barely a scratch. The second (and obviously false) story is that I walked around the back of Mea’s truck and ran into the tent poles protruding from it, somehow managing to not see them, though they were perfectly my eye-level. Choose for yourself.

Then today, urg. Not the greatest beginning. I woke up feeling meh-ish, but not bad. Came into the house, got dressed, was talking to Mom and feeling progressively worse and worse, and ended up sitting on the floor with no recollection of how I got there. Apparently I collapsed a few times. And when I was conscious (which was most of the time) the pain was unbearable. I just felt completely awful. Thank God it wasn’t TSS, like I wondered (it was too sudden), but still. Blah. Not something I wish to repeat.
So I’m much better, though still a little weirded out about it and not feeling stellar. Ew. *curls into fetal ball and tries to fall asleep*

Oh well. Choir tonight (if we go, I’m not sure, seeing as Mom’s still sniffling ((so am I)) and given this morning’s adventures), violin tomorrow, then going to NC on Wednesday! I
    m excited.
I just want to sleep right now, but I have gobs of homework that are screaming at me. :(

If anyone read that whole thing and made any sense of it, congrats.

It went up to 500 today…the pollution, I mean…which is the maximum…which is bad…and the government’s saying that it’s 500, which means in reality it’s even worse. Gah. Everyone in my French class was coughing today. And today was the day of our exams at the Alliance Francaise! I had never taken one of their exams before, seeing as every time I skipped a level (which was often, thanks to my current teacher) I managed to skip to a level which didn’t have an exam that trimester. Except now I’ve just finished the exam. It was okay. The oral comprehension was the hardest for me because the CD player was kind of broken and the sound was static-y, but I think I did okay. Reading Comprehension and Writing sections were much, much easier. I probably will pass – heck, my teacher told me I should skip to level 12 next term! (I’m currently on level 10). I don’t know if I want to. I hope I have the same teacher next term. We’ve had him for two trimesters straight, so I don’t know if we’ll get lucky again. He is awesome. And he has one of the most typically French names, which is really cool.

Can you guys get masks to wear? You know, like those cloth hardware masks that resemble surgical masks? I don’t know how much good it would do, but I know back home that’s what we were supposed to do if we had to go outside when there was ash in the air from the volcano….(Not really a problem where I was, but more in the areas that were hard hit with ash). Which is still pretty bad because 100 is already supposed to be bad, but compared to 500 it’s good. Hey guys! I’ve really missed posting, but everything’s been sooo incredibly busy.
    LIST TIME!
    Things that have happened recently:
-It’s been sooo warm. (Like, in the seventies, I can wear shorts warm.)
-It got cold and rainy in the past 48 hours.
-I joined the badminton team. The coach makes us run half a mile every day. :( I guess that’s good though, I’m so out of shape…
-I missed a ton of practices due to: surgery, congress, feeling cakey.
-I had surgery on my mouth for the third time. (DARN YOU DOCTOR, FOR MESSING UP TWO TIMES!)
-I just realized that I am in pain, and should probably take a pain killer.
-My ducky laid a clutch of eggs a couple of days ago, and is now protecting her nest under the shed vehemently.
-I made my first (meager) dish out of a wild food. (The acorn muffins don’t count…) It was a few leaves of garlic mustard, which loses its garlicky flavor when boiled. I might try seasoning it with wild garlic or wild onions next time.
-I stayed home from school today and yesterday due to the aforementioned surgery, which means HOLY CAKE, I am going to be behind on school work…
    .

Uhm? I won’t even ask about the part in parentheses… :D
If you really must know, the surgeon cut into my gum (and palate, I think) and attached a bracket with a chain on it to a tooth inside my gum. See, the tooth is coming in in the wrong place. So, every two weeks or so, I have the pleasure of going to the orthodontist and having him pull the chain tighter and tighter. (It’s going to be attached to a wire on my braces.) If I’m lucky, the bracket will not fall off this time when the orthodontist pulls on it. :P
Oh, and to add to the nastiness, the surgeon said that there were cysts and stuff that was supposed to be there around my tooth, which he removed. I really have no clue what this “stuff” was, because he told my mom, who didn’t inquire any further when she was told this. She said he was very vague about it when he told her, so I’m going to ask him at the follow-up visit.

            • Ducky says:

Even if she was off the nest for quite a while at least a few will probably still hatch. It’s normal for hens to not stay on the nest constantly until they decide that they have a big enough clutch off eggs, and then she’ll stay on the nest and only leave to eat and drink (and swim if given the option- is there food and water that she can at least submerge her face in near the nest?) or if something scares her off.
The worst that can happen is that she’ll step on a rotten egg and break it. Mandy did that, and she must have decided that they’d all hatched by then and led her ducklings out of there, because that was the worst thing I’ve ever smelled. Five of Mandy’s hatched, and she’d been off the nest for a while, but that was because she was trying to tell me to come because Beaky, who I had put in the duckhouse with Mandy that morning because she her feathers were all wet and she hadn’t even tried to run away from me when I caught her, had died.
Of course, she could hatch out most of them, like Beaky did (12 out of 14! ), or maybe about half of them, like Bonnie,

If you want something dark but not “I’m going to kill myself” dark, West Side Story is awesome. If you want something really dark, go for Les Mis. If you like light movie musicals with a focus on dancing, anything with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. (My personal favorite is Swingtime, but all of their stuff is awesome.)

If you like musicals and have a 30 to 40 minutes, YouTube Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. It is amazing and absolutely hilarious.

Okay, I see French, which reminds me that I am officially taking French next year! Plus, I’m taking it instead of Spanish, despite taking 3rd-year Spanish as a freshman this year and still getting an A. Seriously, switching languages about as rebellious as I get. I’m so excited for it. The French teacher is supposedly really nice, and I’ve heard the class is fun.

There was also a possibility that I would get to do a Chinese camp this summer, but it’s at exactly the same times and dates as soccer camp, which is more important. That would have been amazing, though.

I got the highest score on my exam in my Alliance Francaise class! 94 out of 105…right behind me were the scores 93.5 and 92, and both of those people are married to French. He actually gave me 93 at first, but it turns out there was one question that he marked me as wrong but that was actually right. Most of the class got 70- and 80-somethings. My teacher says I could skip to Level 12 next trimester (we just finished Level 10 today) but I don’t know if I want to yet.

    My scores –
Comprehension orale: 20.5 out of 25
Comprehension ecrite: 23 out of 25
Expression ecrite: 22 out of 25
Expression orale: 28.5 out of 30

….which gives a total of 94 out of 105! Yay!

On another, totally unrelated note, I was voted as Future Einstein by the rest of my grade for the 8th grade yearbook Superlatives. I don’t know whether to feel complimented or insulted. I don’t even know why – yes, I am in Geometry (which only 20 out of 200 take, the rest take Algebra or Pre) but it’s not like I’m the best in my class. I’m average, actually, because I’m too lazy to prove everything with annoying theorems. My strong points are LA (read my poem on the Poems and Songs thread – it’s not bad) and SS, and perhaps Science this year. And Strings. Don’t forget Strings. *smacks self for forgetting to mention favourite class*

Second totally unrelated note: (sorry, I occasionally tend to go off on tangents. And I don’t want to triple-post.) Our school’s field hockey team played German Swiss today. (The GAPAS totally know which school I go to, if they’re smart. It’s OK, I trust you, mostly.) We played their A-team, their best team, where everyone has been playing for years and years, while most of our school’s team have only been playing for months, or at most one or two years. Anyway, we lost 5-0, which isn’t too bad, considering. I actually got to play this time. Last time the coach didn’t put me on for the entire game, so I sat out with all the sucky players, even though everyone agrees that I’m pretty good. Today she put me on, thank God, and I ended up surprising her so much that she awarded me MVP of the match (reward = candy!) and said at half-time that I was ‘having a stormer’.

Anyway, now that you all have a very thorough update on my life recently, I shall end with something random.

Hm. Actually, I won’t. I can’t think of anything random enough to end with. Anyway, good evening, all.

*sigh* Luna has this sinking feeling (that keeps getting bigger) that she is not going to get any As this semester. Luna does not like that. Luna really liked freshman year where she had straight As. Luna was just beginning to accept the fact that she got a B in organic 1 and that she would never have a 4.0 again, and was resigned to the fate that she was going to get a B in organic 2 (I’d have to get 85% on both the remaining tests to bring my grade up to an A, which is a lot harder than it sounds). Now, she has her grade back on her second spanish test, and once again pulled the crappy score of 83%. This means she’d have to ace all remaining assignments, and pull a grade in the low 90s on the final to get an A. Very unlikely.

Classical mythology: She aced the midterm, perhaps will do as well on the final, but if her TA keeps giving her crappy grades on her papers (very low Bs–Luna has never gotten Bs on papers before), even this will not bring her grade up to an A.

Cell Bio: Dunno. It depends a lot on how she did on the midterm, which she will not be getting back until after spring break, despite the fact that the TAs have now had 2 whole weeks to grade it. And how she does on the quiz tomorrow (study, need to study, god she’s gonna fail tomorrow’s quiz…..) will also be important (as it determines if she can drop the first lecture quiz, on which she got a 16/25).

Organic chem lab….Oh, wait, *sigh of relief*. This will almost certainly be an A. At least I’ll have something…..

Ugh, poor Alan. He’s going to get to spend our organic chemistry lab today listening to me stressing out about grades and my cell bio quiz tomorrow and and and and. I abuse him so….

Honestly, it doesn’t sound all that bad. Organic is a tough break. As for mythology, maybe get someone to edit your papers? As with all writing, it’s all in the editing. It sounds like you don’t really know enough about cell bio yet to know whether you can get an A. In the meantime, just study, I guess. But what do I know? I’m just a high schooler.

Well, the thing with Mythology is–my papers may not be my best work ever, but they’re not as bad as my TA seems to think….And I would consider having somebody proof them in addition to myself, if they weren’t getting written the night before they were due……

And as for the papers being written the night before they’re due, wouldn’t it help to maybe not write them the night before they’re due? And, yes, we do get a rough draft, but….My TA grades them rather harsh, in my opinion. My rough draft for my first paper, I got 15/20, for my final, I not only changed everything she marked, but did a massive amount of other revision making it a significantly better paper, only to get a mere 68/80, for an overall score of 83. I am in a much better mood than yesterday (where y’all got to hear me freaking about grades). I’m sure part of that has to do with our organic chemistry professor gave everyone who was in class today the answer to a question he’s going to put on the next exam, so we’re guaranteed at least 4% on the test, and my cell bio quiz didn’t go too badly, I don’t think. I mean, it wasn’t awesome, there were some things I wasn’t sure on, but I don’t think I completely bombed it, either, so with a bit of luck, it won’t end up being the one I drop (I really want to drop that 16/25 I got on the first quiz earlier in the semester, if at all possible).

And, after writing my prof in classical mythology who is subbing for my TA this afternoon, to remind her that I would be attending RSD an hour earlier in a different section, wrote back with “Thanks, Michelle! I shall make sure that your name winds up on the list for extra credit.” The words “extra credit” always make me happy…..Whether it’s extra credit that I will actually have to do something for, or just extra credit for not skipping out early, I don’t know, but, hey, it’s extra credit.

  167. Luna the Lovely says:

Okay, so I’ve got a couple minutes, since the RSD I attended for my classical mythology class got out 30 minutes early.

So, normally I have RSD at 2 with a TA I do not like for various reasons. Since I have to catch the bus to go to the airport to catch the last flight out with connections to Alaska at 2:30, I got permission to attend RSD at 1pm with a different TA.

Basically, shortness of the RSD aside (as that always makes an RSD way better, when it gets out early, as with any class), his RSD was way more fun. I mean, if nothing else? Of the 30 minutes we were in class talking about Homer and virgil and the generics of Heroes of Ancient times, we spent 10-15 of those minutes discussing Harry Potter. Admittedly, at least a few minutes of those were legitimate–we were supposed to think of any modern day hero (real or fictional) that fit into the Ancient Greek classification of a Hero.

Well, miraculous/unusual circumstances surrounding conception/birth? Check. Prophecy and his parents were killed by an evil wizard shortly thereafter

Threat to his life soon after birth? Check. Voldy tried to murder him when he killed Harry’s parents.

    Quests/labors? Oh, cake, yes, check.

Enemy who is often central to these quests/labors (as in, helps to set them)? Cake, yes. Voldy had quite a bit to do with most all of Harry’s quests/labors…..

Twas totally pwnsome. I mean, it beat the cake out of my normal RSD. Sure, we had an in-class thingy, where we filled out a sheet of short answer questions, but it wasn’t particularly challenging/difficult, and we had the questions written down clearly in english–not whacked out questions that we don’t ahve time to answer dictated orally in broken english, like the TA I ahve normally does……

And, of course, HP. Anything in which conversation manages to turn to Harry Potter is pwnsome. And I fully blame the TA, he’s the one who was saying something about how Virgil/Homer’s representation of the underworld didn’t necessarily reflect the Roman/Greek beliefs: Afterall, Harry Potter could be seen as a totally believable story, where people go this magical school called Hogwarts.

Cue my group getting side-tracked onto discussing HP and which book was our favorite, and then when we got to the last questin about heroes….Cue us putting HP as the hero to use to compare to Greek/Roman ideal heroes of ancient times…..

    Absolutely caking brilliant.

  168. Castle says:

    Rather long winded.

    Anyway, in response to your response to my response on the “Luna and the Tiger” thread;

    Eragon/Castle/Zack’s Rules of Fire Safety:

Right then. First of all- What IS fire? If you’re asking this, it is because you’re an idiot. You’re probably also asking questions like “What am the sky” and “How does eat food”. If you’re caught in a fire, always go toward the smoke- it’s where fire USED to be. Perfectly safe! Get out of the fire and into the smoke. Crawl on the ceiling if you have to! Now, statistics show that 90% of all fires happen in a house, while 2% happen in a vehicle, 1% in a public swimming pool, and 7% on your face. So, if you’re caught in a house fire, go to your garage and get in your car.
Now, any modern scientist will tell you that fire requires an oxygen environment to burn! That same scientist will tell you that the human body breathes IN oxygen, and expels carbon dioxide. Therefore, by panicking, you breathe faster, robbing the fire of its vital nutrients. Simple! The bigger the fire, the more amount of panic needed. Try panicking out loud, as if talking to the fire. For example:

Small Fire: “I really hope they don’t make another ‘Indiana Jones’ movie.” That works GREAT.

Medium Fire: “Have you heard? The swine flu’s in Australia now, that can’t be good.’ Perfect!

Large Fire: “Ahhh! I watch the cable news channel! Oh, hothothothot! The cable news channel suuuucks owowowow!” Clearly, not enough panic.

Now, three things to remember when running from fire. You MUST disperse the fire to as many people and objects as possible. Spread it around to get rid of it! Fire safety is about sharing! The second thing is always, ALWAYS panic. The third is STOP, DROP and ROLL.

    1. STOP next to your friends.

    2. DROP them with a swift punch to the temple.

    3. ROLL around on them to transfer the flames from you to them!

I hope you all learned something from that! —courtesy of Red vs. Blue.

Oh, thank God, it’s finally spring break!
Well, not really, because the teachers decided to load on the homework, and I think I did badly on a Spanish quiz that I had yesterday. *Hopefully* I’ll be responsible, and finish most of my work today and tomorrow. (I doubt that’s happening.)
    .
In other news, badminton is SO much fun. Even jogging for badminton is fun! (Which is creepy… Me and my friends went on the track and jogged a lap out of our own free will yesterday…)
We had a match yesterday, and since I’m not as good as the seniors, me and my friend played doubles exhibition. I CANNOT PLAY WITH HER! Me and my other friend, S, are much better together. I hope we can switch for the next match.
    .
I hope everyone has a good break! Have fun on your vacations! :D

  178. Greetings, MuseBloggers, from the butterfly house, where of course we have discovered WiFi, are completing ignoring the butterflies and parents in favor of checking out the blog.

Koppar: We’re getting weird looks from people. At least, the people who aren’t very small children. There’s hundreds of little waist-height kids running around here. I feel tall.

Fiddler: Kokonvention in process, and it’s going quite well so far. We’ve managed to lose a few parents already, but nothing serious. Now we’re in the butterfly house, squished on a bench, posting. Whee!
Oh and yes, we are getting strange looks. We got strange looks with the pies too…

Tess: Hey look, people who are actually slightly over waist height. Sweet. Now we’re only the oldest people here by, say, five or six years. (Discounting parents, of course.) This is so incredibly cool! I can totally not even think of anything to say because I am going insane from the coolness of actually meeting MBers! *dies*

kiwimuncher: This is awesomely flamablamablous! :D and there were some really fat goats outside. I wonder if they milk them and make cheese. They certainly looked well fed! They’d better have something to show for it! This place is full of little children. Hope they aren’t bunnified before this adventure is through!

Tess: The bunny at the farm was actually out sick. (Or zoo, or whatever it was.) We thought it might have been bunnified… or rather pinkified (thanks for the word, Fiddler).

            • Tesseract says:

All right, now that the Kokon is over, I can identify everyone in the photo for you all. It’s a pretty bad photo of all of us, but more photos will hopefully be up soon! I know I’m sending mine in in a few minutes, and Rebecca got parental permission at the Kokon (hence the photo).
Left to right: Kiwi, me, Fiddler, Rebecca, Koppar.

              That was SO. MUCH. FUN.

Initial awkwardness of course, but we got over that pretty quickly. There was a butterfly house at our Kokon location, so we headed there. It was a children’s museum, so there were a lot of little munchkins running around all over the place. We attracted some strange looks by settling down on a bench in the butterfly house to post on MB, which is where the photo at the top of the thread was taken. Thread hijacking is a bonus of having a GAPA there! Mystical GAPA powers of awesomeness.

After a while we actually decided to look at the butterflies and such. Still got some strange looks, but that’s okay! There was a hanging plant that we decided looked like a Space Squid egg sack. Upon further examination we discovered that it’s called a Jade Vine, which is entirely appropriate.

In the gift shop of the butterfly house, we had some fun with a set of giant butterfly wings. (Rebecca, you had better let that photo through! Hehehehe.) The gift shop lady certainly had her entertainment for the week. Kiwi and I had a light saber fight!

Oh! Before we went to the butterfly house, we actually visited the little farm area first. There were some fat goats that looked to be pregnant, and some pigs (we thought of you, Piggy!) and a pen that used to hold a bunny. The bunny, however, was out under veterinary care… (It’s a coverup. It was actually pinkified.)

After the butterfly house we went and got lunch. Koppar and Rebecca figured out that they’re really, really distantly related, which was pretty cool!

Then we wandered around the outdoor exhibits for a while. During this time, we:
              1) Talked a lot
              2) Terrorized more small children
              3) Took photos with dinosaurs
              4) Discovered fossil evidence of HPBs
              5) Learned about lemurs and “wharr-do dey leeve”
              6) Took lots of photos
              7) Had an air cannon war
              8) Attempted to control mini sailboats
              9) Generally had an awesome time

Then in the remaining hour or so we had, we headed back to the actual museum and found… a music room! Muse Academy MUST have one. It basically has sensors so when you run around the room it makes all these various percussive and chime-y noises. We danced in there for a long while. At this point, there were only a few minutes left for the rest of the museum… but ah well. :)

So much fun! It was awesome meeting everyone! You all looked a lot like I pictured you.

    2. Portland. Oregon’s biggest city. It has a great downtown with lots of shops to explore. Check out Voodoo doughnuts.
2a. Powell’s bookstore in Portland. It’s the biggest independent bookstore in the world. The rare book section is famablamablous!
2b. OMSI, short for Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. It’s a nice museum.
    3. Bend. Located on the edge of the Eastern Oregon desert. Also very close to the cascades and skiing and stuff. Check out the High Desert Museum. I’m not sure if they’re open.
    4. Ashland. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has just begun its 2010 play season. Check out their website for details.
    5. Newport. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is located there. There’s also a nice row of shops by the bay.
    6. Waterfalls: Multnoma and Silver Creek falls (not located anywhere near each other) are great waterfalls. But it might be too cold this time of year. If you’re coming up in the summer, super!

There are many other sights to see, like Eugene and Corvallis, other natural wonders, and the desert. These are just the highlights.

i am also super crazy excited for my sci-fi/fantasy class. got the syllabus, and it looks like it’s going to be flamablamablous :D i am also excited for brit lit, but that’s less “i am excited to learn things” and more “i am excited to [emphatic expletive] OWN this class” because let’s be real brit lit and i are BFFs.

trying not to think of doctor who and how it is in ONE WEEK. i better not have tons of homework, because it will not get done.

oh, and i started knitting again. i learned how to purl! again. but this time i think i’ll remember. hopefully. i am practicing on pretty blue wool yarn that i probably should be saving to Make Things with but i’ve always been bad at practice yarn vs real yarn. i like using the pretty ones!

Yes, Alaska. There’s about 2 feet of accumulated snow on the ground, and it snowed a bit today. But it’s spring, so anything that didn’t land on top of accumulated snow sorta melted (like the snow on the porch didn’t really stick at all). It was right around 32 earlier when it was snowing, but has been up about 40 the rest of the day….Which is definitely spring.

Ooo…nice picture. Is that from the recent Kokon? Cool!

Anyway, hi all!!!!! I’m back from Gettysburg!!!!! And, wow, where do I start? On the first day, we did this on-foot tour of civilian homes that were there during the Civil War. The first one was the Shriver house, built by George Shriver a few months before war broke out. He had plans to make a saloon in his basement, but that didn’t happen. A few months after war started, George left to volunteer, and Hettie Shriver (George Shriver’s wife) and her two kids, Mollie and Sadie, moved out to her father’s farm in-between two hills. The names of those hill were Little Round Top and Big Round Top. Trust me, you would not have wanted to be there during the Civil War. They had to shout to be overheard. After the fighting was done, they returned to their home to find a red flag waving in the front. What did this mean, you ask? It meant their house was being used as a hospital, a Confederate hospital, to be exact. So the Confederates hung out in the attic, and the Shrivers hid in the basement. Luckily, it was a nice basement, for the time. It was really cool!!! Oh, and the side of the house had a lot of bullet holes!!!!!

The next stop was the home of Jenny Wade. During the war, she was making bread one day, when a stray bullet came through two doors, struck her behind the left shoulder blade, hit her heart, and killed her. The bullet holes were still there, and there was a cool holographic display and everything!!!!!!

The next day was the best. We got to go on a horseback tour of the battlefield. My horse was named Heart, and she was really nice. But my dad’s horse, Chip, was a whole other story. He kept going off into the grass and stopping when he wasn’t supposed to and all that. We still managed to see a whole bunch of cool stuff, though, like a house with a cannonball hole in it. The only bad part was the cold. I couldn’t feel my cakin’ toes afterwards, or my fingers!!!!!! And I couldn’t walk right, from being on a saddle for two hours!!!!

Finally, today, before we got back, we toured a chocolate factory. It wasn’t that fun, almost all the people there were either way, way old, or way, way, young. There was this one tall, ugly lady who just had to be in front of us the whole time, and a really whiney 5- ot 6-year-old. We got free samples, though, so it was totally worth it! *drools*

Okay, I’ll stop ranting now. ;)

So, I had an absolutely flammy birthday.

I got up before noon for once (well, in this time zone, anyway, which is all that matters).

I spent a bunch of time reading birthday wishes here and on FB.

I went to work for 6 hours, where it wasn’t until about 2-3 hours after I got there that anyone remembered it was my birthday–it was actually the new tech who had only just met me that day who noticed that on the sheet with people’s birthdays that mine was that day. She then proceeded to wish me a happy birthday, and I think go tell everyone else, as I very soon was wished happy birthday by everyone except the vet who was working, as he only figured it out five or so minutes before closing–he’s getting rather deaf….Seriously. They will likely have cake and such for me today…Yum. Cake.

We went out to dinner after I got home from work.

Came back, and opened my presents, mainly super flammy ones, one that is good because it was HP, one that just existed, and one that sucked majorly (which my mom knew I would feel that way about):

    The awesome ones:

9 Torchwood books (the first 9), so I now has 10, since I got the 12th for Christmas (there are 15)

A Torchwood audio book (Hidden), narrated by Naoko Mori (who plays Tosh)–it’s exclusively in audiobook format.

A TW soundtrack (for the first two seasons, I think)

A TW CoE sweatshirt (with Jack, Gwen, and Ianto)

    The mostly awesome:

Harry Potter trading cards. They’re HP, so they can’t exactly not be awesome.

    the merely existing:

A pair of socks that mom thought would be nice and thick and thus good for this spring when I’m going to be shadowing food production vets and wearing boots

    The suckage:

A twilight poster of edward the pedophile that she picked up at the thriftstore where she works….. I want to burn it……*sigh* She says “surely there’s someone you can give it to?” *rolls eyes* Yeah, the fire demons. It has now been suggested to me that I:

220~ How about you use it as a dartboard and then burn it? And why is Edward a pedophile? Technically, he’s 17, and Bella’s 18 when they get married. Creepy, yes, but she’s older than him, technically. Though if you count the fact that he’d been 17 for a hundred years or whatnot, then yeah, he’d be a pedophile. Hmm. But in any case, a poster of him would be horrid indeed. Not only because it’s Twilight, but because Robert Pattinson is really quite hideous, especially the way they made him appear in the movies (which I thankfully have only seen trailers and posters for, not the actual movie itself). *shudders* My apologies to the guy, I’m sure were it not for his being tainted by association I wouldn’t be so repulsed, but still, yuck.

But she finds it really hard to jump back into things on MB after she’s been gone for three months and it seems like half the people are new. She feels like MB is getting bigger and bigger, and the cozy space she used to share with her friends is gone. She also realizes that she sounds like a paleo, and is somewhat scared by this.
She also is interested by the fact that she’s using third person randomly. :? But, she has no idea what to do. She really doesn’t want to let MB go, but she doesn’t have the time to catch up on everything that’s happened since she’s gone. She hates that going to the boat means that a fourth of her social life is disappearing. She’s feeling an odd mixture of depressed and happyish, and not sure which one she should be. She’d like to be….re-initiated, she guesses, into MB, but she doesn’t want to ask any more favors of people.
Anyhoo, she’ll try to keep an eye (or two) on MB. And she’ll definitely be there on the 1st. :D And…..whatever. I hope that you guys think about me once in a while. That would be nice.

bookgirl_me says that she’d like to see Armada around more. She has long given up even trying to keep one eye on it, but instead sort of strolls around looking for the occasional flying whale or giant space squid. She would say some awe-inspiring words of wisdom, but she’s caught in a mental knot beween the differences of buddism and hinduism, how to do better at capoeira, various equasions involving infinity, deleting visiting the blog from the browser’s history, flying whales in mythology, the beautiful beach and, the most important question, will there be chololate cookie cake or chocolate mousse at the buffet for dinner?

Don’t worry, I’ve thought about you quite often. And you should definitely come on- just sort of let everything float by and pounce on somethign interesting once in a while.

Wait, I think I remembered the cover as well…
It’s funny. That quote belongs to a completely different Twilight now. One without much detail. The one I vaguely imagined after reading that quote on the back. It wasn’t destroyed by my reading the book, since that other Twilight was already too established for me to forget it completely.

That doesn’t make much sense to me. But anyway…
Why did the Random Thread turn into a Twilight-bashing thread? Twilight isn’t the best book out there. In my opinion, it doesn’t deserve the hype it’s getting.
But neither is it the worst book out there. It’s got some good points. You can’t deny that it has interesting plot twists, an original setting, and great imagination. The writing style itself is good, and it draws you in. Um…
I’m sure there’s lots of other good points that I can’t think of at the moment. Not counting fangirl ‘Edward/Jacob is sooo hot!’ type things. It’s been a while since I read it.
I liked it when I read it, by the way. It’s got its low points, but again, it’s not the worst book out there.
Now, you won’t find me arguing it holds a candle to Harry Potter, or LotR, or many other books. It doesn’t.

Quite the opposite, in fact, since by spending time here I’m interacting with those said lovely people.
