  7. Hey, the title rhymes!

*pies Augwich* whaddya need help with?

Want to hear what amusing things ebeth did today? Well i went to dan’s after skewl and we did DDR and wii sports, fun times fun times. So we leave at around 5:45 and i, being the brilliant directionally challenged child i am, walk off in the wrong direction. I must’ve gotten turned around like three times and i swear i walked out of —— at one point. Got home at like 7:15. First time i’ve gotten that lost in over a year. woohoo me!

i’m taking my bike all around north this summer…i didn’t recognize anything up there…i was like “noooo! recognizable streets! where are yooou?!”

And now i’m off to go eat ice cream, so you don’t get to hear about my S&E trio or my pilferage of andy’s calky or my exciting idea for english or any other wunnerful things.

  8. 6 and 7- Hi! Welcome! *pies* That was your welcome pie. We allways pie the newbies when they come. Here, we pretty much just talk to each other about the magazine and whatever other random topics we come up with. The administrators, or GAPA, make threads for different subjects to talk about and we try to keep the disscusions relavent. This is the January random thread, where we talk about anything that pops into our head andrant about our lives off the comp(without giving away information and all). And, umm, that’s pretty much it. More pie!! *pies again* That was key-lime, by the way. Yum.

  9. Augwich — i have no idea about the 2+2=5 thing, except that i used it in a story once, but i can tell you that museblog is basically a place where you go to be weird and not care what anyone else thinks. well, actually its more organized than all that, but yeah. just . . like, talk about . . . stuff. i dont know. one of the more experienced people can explain better. oh yeah, i almost forgot — here’s your welcome pie! *splat*
oh wait . . . do we still do that anymore? ah well
by the way, my name is not really Arianhrod, nor do i live in, or anywhere near, Orkney.

  11. 267 on previous thread (Axa): Yeah, I saw a picture of them the other day, and they did have some pretty crazy costumes. I need to find one of their CDs…

6&7: Hiiee! *Pies* What do you need help w/?

8: Man, DDR looks so fun. I need to learn how to play it sometime (I watch my friends play it all the time). Pilferage…Haha, cool word.

Today was…interesting. B/c of eggzams, it was a half day at skool. After skool, J, Dingo, and I took the bus over to the mall. However, Dingo recently got banned from the mall (…long story. Heh heh), but we were like “Nah, no one’s going to remember you!” Well, barely half an hour after we had arrived, a security guard recognized him (Creepyness!)…and told him that, if he wasn’t off mall property w/ in five minutes, he was going to jail. Man, we freaking RAN across the street to the strip mall! So we spent the afternoon walking around outside…it was fifteen degrees and snowing…Yeah, I froze my feet off. But we ended up going to Toys R Us. Hehe. We found these foam swords, + had a swordfight.
Later, I walked back to the mall (*Laughs* When I go to the mall after skool, I’m never, ever supposed to leave the mall’s property. What my parents don’t know won’t hurt them :D) to meet my mother. I got there a bit before she did, so I idled around a bit…Ended up buying the Black Parade poster, some new manga, and the new AP. 12. My parents are not going to let me get the Battle Royale manga. The conversation went like this:
MOM: What would you like for your birthday?
ME: well, I like manga…Battle Royale is supposed to be good…
    MOM: Battle what?
    ME: well, it’s about a game…
MOM: Oh, that one about the kids who all have to kill each other?
    ME: _yes_
MOM: yeah ha ha- no. It’s bad for you.
ME: It carries a very strong message about the dangers of government corruption and-
MOM: I don’t care. It’s still too violent.

What mangas would you guys reccomend?

Arthur takes up golf to get away from Guinevere’s nagging.
    Merlin invents the vaccuum cleaner.

*yawns* I took the SAT today!! Yippee. No, I’m not in high school. I’m in 8th grade… they offer this program to let people in middle school to take the SAT (the real SAT) to prepare them for it in high school. Yay. Anyways, ’twas ok. There was a lot of the math part I didn’t understand. Trig, Calc, etc. I got the algebra parts though! yup. somehow I have 100% average in math for the 2nd quarter. I have no idea how that happened. Ah well. I’m not complaining.
Oh guess what! I played a prank on my friend on IM. She doesn’t know my screen name so I IMd her and told her I was a russian spy. She got ticked off. 29. colored nail polish. i found some in a shade of pink that i don’t think anyone here would want to actually put on their nails, so i used it on the hpbs. it was good. just the right shade, and also kind of shiny. and it turns out we have a lot of nail polish from somewhere or other, so i used brown, orange, and white on chad. i’m doing feather next though, and i know i don’t have all his colors. i’ll just use acrylic paint or something.

I think you’d like Death Note. A lot.

And I don’t blame your mom, Battle Royale is supposedly EXTREMELY GRAPHIC. Although with a good message, but still GRAPHIC AFJAKGA.

Anyway, for shojo manga: Ouran High School Host Club, Kare Kano, Fruits Basket, Marmalade Boy, Mars, Fushigi Yugi, Alice 19th, uhhh that’s all I can think of. If you like stuff that deals with real world issues, I think Confidential Confessions might appeal to you, but it does get kind of disturbing, so you may want to run it by your parents or something.

And more shonen type stuff…the Viz translation for Naruto is bad, but you may like it. Rurouni Kenshin is awesome, but it gets kind of violent too.

  32. All-County band had our concert today. Four hours or so of practice yesterday as a group and three or so today. As I estimate, probably take an hour off each of them for breaks and changing places, five hours playing as a group total. ‘Twas fun except for all the high notes. The high E-flats in Romanesque were for some reason harder to play than the high Fs in Lord of the Dance. I was second chair in band. I want to be in wind ensemble next year!!! Brian got in this year, and I don’t want him to be able to gloat(again), but he’ll probably be first chair or something and I’ll be on the third part. The SAT sounds fun.

24- Whooo, again! Seeing as they’re up. And gaaaw-jus. [gorgeous, with a stereotypical Joy-see [Jersey] hairdresser accent]

    25- ?

26- GIEP…I’m in the gifted program. ‘t is fun indeed, Except our room was recently moved from a tiny one in the library to a bigger classroom where the temperature is around 16.23K. On average.

29- So did I, and I was probably the only enthusiastic one. [Running around going, “wheee, that was fun! I love the circles!” during the break] Not bad, but I didn’t have enough time. As usual. Especially because our idiot examiner/proctor cut it short, starting halfway through the minute instead of waiting for the bloody clock to change. AAAAAAAH! *fumes*

    33- Good luck with that!

So I have tonnes of homework and a paper to write. Oh, and my sister’s birthday party is going on right now. She’s not 15 until the 30th, but mentally….not going there. I got dragged ice-skating. And have a huge blister on the side of my foot. *sigh*

We took a long walk today around town, went to Herb’s, Zingerman’s, Middle Earth and Kerrytown. We all bought a pie at the farmer’s market and split it. I was going to dye my hair black or red today, but we haven’t the time, cos we’re going to see a movie at midnight. Just very relaxed. I don’t really want to go home, but I also don’t want to use the communal showers. Ew.
I’m dying in envy of my brother’s life over here. NOT fair.

  36. Sorry for the triple-posting (!!– don’t hit me), but have any of you done the cube/ladder/horse/storm/flowers in a desert, kinda psychological game? I think we should have a seperate thread for it (hint hint)– I’ll be happy to explain it…

Write down the first image that comes to your mind, and be very detail-oriented.

First, picture a desert in your mind. What kind of desert is it (snowy/sandy), what is the temperature, is it night or day, clear or cloudy, etc. (Be very specific for all of these!)

There is a cube in this desert. Where is it in the desert, what colour is it, how big is it, etc…

There is also a ladder in the desert. Where is it in relation to the cube, what’s it made of, is it leaning against something, etc.

A horse is in your desert. What kind of horse is it, what colour is it, where is it in relation to the cube and the ladder, does it have any markings, what is it doing, etc.

A storm is in your desert. What kind of storm is it, how severe is it, where is it in your desert, is it going by fast or slow or stationary, etc.

Aaand, there are flowers in your desert. How many are there, what kind are they, what colour are they, where are they in relation to the horse, cube and ladder, etc…

DON’T READ THE FOLLOWING UNTIL YOU ARE FINISHED.

DESERT = landscape of your life

    CUBE = you

    LADDER = your friends

    HORSE = your true love

STORM = hardships/troubles in your life

FLOWERS = children in your life

Now find insight from this. NOW.

  37. 42- I was watching that too! at a birthday party where we did not go ice skating. Instead we went on a treasure hunt where we drove around my city with five clues about five places that we would all know about. One really confusing clue that said something about linking three rather different things was actually about movies filmed here and this place was featured in all three movies and I got it right away but no one listened to me and we were going to drive to about four different places until we drove to the one I suggested in the first place at which point my friend proclaimed me the most intelligent and I felt special.

    *sigh* muse hasn’t come yet

44- my desert is sandy, cool-ish warm, clear, night. My cube is smallish, dark blue, under saguaro (cactus). my ladder is far away from cube, glass, laying on the ground. My horse is grey with a mark on the right fore leg and looking at the stars. my storm is made of swirling sand and far away from everything else. my flowers are pink, little and all over the place (I’m not going to have lots of pink loving children! I just thought that’s what a desert would have!)

  38. 44 – Icy desert. Acres and acres of white land, only a few bushes, no hills, just flat, long expanses of land. It is, well, very cold. Beautiful. Sunset. The light comes across the ice in a beautiful dull white. A few big clouds cover about half of the sky. They are white, tinted blue. It is one of the most beautiful landscapes I can think of right now.
Beige cube. About a foot 1/2 tall/long/wide/whatever the official terms are. It is laying in the very corner of the huge desert, being lapped by frigid water.
The ladder is made of wood. It has only three rungs. It is trying to stand up by lying on the cube. It barely bakes the top. It isn’t painted, and a bit worn down, but still strong. It’s the grainy brown and reddish wood color.
The horse is black with white hooves, running towards the cube, splashing the water.
A small tornado is in the very center of the desert, spinning quickly, but not moving around.
There is one odd sunflower in the desert, in the opposite corner from the cube.

  39. I did el testo thingy and it was purty kool.

My desert was snowy, 60 degrees (??? it’s whati thought of first… still, ???), nighttime, clear skies (which collides with the storm part lol).

My cube was in the center, was red (my favorite color is green (???)) and was HUGE.

My ladder was leaning NEXT TO my cube, not on, next to (yes it was leaning on nothing), and it was wood.

My horsie was under the ladder, was a palamino horse, and was white with brown spots. Or is it brown with white?

My storm was a blizzard (you know the one’s that make you say “oh crap!” and run inside reeeeeeeally fast). But it wasn’t too severe (???????????). And it was moving fast.

There were three flowers, those little cute ones that you see everywhere in the movies like bambi, and they were multicolored.

That’s it, my conclusion is that my life is confuzzling.

By the way, did I mention that I have no fate line? I was reading my own palm once (no friends to do it for me) and I just noticed that. It seems to fit…

39- what instrument do you play?

40- lol, I should have done that during the SAT. Although we only got like 5 minutes for a break… blech. I like ice skating. Blisters are bad though… really really bad. blech. again. blech.

44- My desert is flat and sandy. It’s warm, not too hot, not cold at all. There are boulders in random places. It’s nighttime. There were clear skies. You could see the stars.

My cube is a light tan color. Vines (dark green) are creeping up the side. (no thorns) The cube is near a cactus. It’s medium sized.

My ladder is leaning slightly on a barrel cactus near my cube. Very near, actually. It was wooden and was a light brown color.

My horse was a jet black thoroughbred. It was grazing (I know, but it’s the first thing I thought of) and is tied very very loosely to the ladder. (wonder what that’s saying… hmmm… lol).

My storm was slight sandstorm. It was far away from the cube, ladder, and horse. It looked like a mini tornado. ’twas not severe.

My flowers were light purple, like a pastel. There were some white ones too.

50- I thought of a silver screwdriver. YAY!!! I’M NOT NORMAL!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

tornado in the back right-hand corner, further away than the horse, farily small

Except I think I was channeling some painting or other for most of it, except the flowers, which seemed fairly out of place. Dali, maybe? I’m fairly sure it was by a hispanohablante artist, since I think we saw it in Spanish.. actually, I think it was a Dali, not sure which one, though..

Desert: Snow and ice, all over, bright white. Night, sort of stary but you can’t see to many of them, and in shifting patterns. Very cold, sort of a forest in the background with dead trees, silhouetted against the snow. It’s storming, sort of a blizzard but lighter and you can see through it. Windy. Cold, wind chill makes it colder. Moving shadows fliting around. This sounds like no desert I now of. Maybe it’s on another world.

Cube: Sort of large, glowing and pulsating light. Blueish. Shadows across the surface. Not right in front of you, but not to far in the distance.

Ladder: I’ve decided to change this to a staircase. Deal with it. Twisting up, around the cube but not too close to it. Mocing into the sky and soon it’s lost in the snow and storm. Clear steps.

Horse: Stallion, light grey. Flecked with darker gray. More of the moving-shadow-things racing across it’s coat. Sort of silhouetted from the light of the cube, again. Facing you, farther off but still in front of the cube. Actually, the cube seems farther back now.

Storm: It’s already storming. Now it’s stronger. All over the landscape(as you see it), twisting and obscuring your view. Now it’s a blizzard.

Flowers: ranging from white-black. In bloom, seem uunafected by temerature. Blowing in wnd. Some petals fliing off, flive of them on a flower. Mixed in with the trees, too.

Hmm. Someone interprate this for me. I have to get off, now.

Actually, I instinctively wanted “red” but thought blue, then went with blue because I didn’t actually think red I just wanted it. But I wanted blue more. Oddment. Then I had to decide between shovel and hoe, I thought of them almost smultainiously… actually, I pictured a hoe while mentaly saying shovel. I blame the math.

  54. My desert is sandy, at night, hot during the day but now it’s not day so it’s just the right temperature (around 70 degrees? idk), the sky is a rich deep slightly blue purple (indigo?) with just the right amount of small bright whitish stars, there’s a yellowish moon, three quarters full but the craters look the same shade as the sky, even though it’s night there’s enough ambient illumination so you can see as well as you would in day, there’s a big sandy orange-brown dune right in the foreground a little to the left. My cube I instinctively thought was red-orange but maybe I like opalescent gray more, it’s about nine inches cubed, sitting on the sand right before the place where the dune starts to slope up but before it gets steep, it’s not metal or plastic or any thing from life I’ve experienced, it’s not hard, it’s smooth but you can’t leave fingerprints on it, it’s not smooth like that, but it doesn’t give when you squeeze it or break when you drop it or scratch, the edges are slightly rounded, not enough that you’d notice but the edges won’t hurt you no matter what you do. My ladder is wooden but not painted or stained or lacquered or with anything over the bare wood, but sanded, maybe, even though it doesn’t feel like sanded stuff feels, absolutely no dust on it, not brand new but not used enough that it’s been changed, gotten dirt or skin oil (or maybe that’s what makes it look all richly shiny, an equak coatig of oil over it from many hsnds touching it) or anything on it, there’s no possible way to get a splinter, it’s well made – no glue visible near where the rungs come together, it has two sides, so it can stand up on it’s own, held together with a hinge I suppose, you can’t see the hinge or the top clearly enough to tell, or at least I can’t, it’s above and to either side of the cube, it’s a light wood with no lines from grain on it, the horse is chestnut brown all over, wearing circus-like bright colored(red, orange, blue with white edging) saddle stuff that goes under the saddle with a chestnut brown leather saddle(what’s it called, tack?) with silver metal where metal’s needed, bright and shiny. It’s straight from some grassy area, just appeared randomly on the desert by my will, still chewing some grass and staring at the cube and ladder a few horse lengths away, trampled grass mixed among the sand at it’s feet. The storm is a big gray cyclone, with the shape that comes when you spin water around in a bottle, and it’s to the right, way way in the background in a flat area just visible beyond the dune, it’s twisting around itself, not moving, you can’t hear it and don’t have to worry about it much, the flowers are all different little colored ones with dark green stems and leaves that look like ivy(the stems and leaves) and the flowers are actually on one stem even though that’s impossible, and they cover most of the sand now. I’m not sure I understand it or like the implications of the symbolism. That is not my life!!! Except the cube and ladder. I quite like the cube and ladder. But the desert and storm, horse, flowers, I don’t think that’s what I want, even though it might be what it is. And what does it mean? I feel like I’m taking one of those quizzes that’s supposed to determine your future, with some of my normal friends who I’m not as close to, because my closest friends have a certain weird quality that means they have the ability to completely understand me, and they take it and say oh, cool, and I take it and say to them oh, I don’t get it, can you explain, but I’m thinking: is this really me? This is not what I planned. It may be my life, what I may want, but it’s not what I should want, it doesn’t uphold my reputation, it’s not in character. What does it all mean? What is life? Does this show some horrible flaw in my way of thinking? I am confused, really.

The other one I thought blue, then a thingy that I guess was a rake, but I was reading other people’s responses before I read the test, so I think my results were tainted by seeing what Jadestone said every time I wanted to add something to my desert.

Horse is small, standing on top of the hill, black, no markings. Storm mild, just wind, blowing up sand obscuring vision slightly but not serious. I’m not seeing any flowers but i guess some bushes down around the cube, just small green stuff.

  59. whee! here’s my entire natural resources project!

    do you like it?

    Natural Resources

    Introduction
All across the world, resources are being gobbled up by humanity at an unsustainable rate. If we don’t act soon, we will be stuck with a pollution-ridden world plagued by global warming. If we don’t act soon, piles of gasoline-powered cars will be piling up in heaps in ghastly car graveyards. If we don’t act soon, there won’t be any fish left for us to put on our dinner tables. If we don’t act soon, we won’t have anything to give for the future generations.
We need to act now-or suffer the consequences. The fact looms over us like a dark cloud- the world for the next millennia will be shaped by what we do to protect and utilize our resources now. We also need to try and use non-polluting resources that don’t release CO2 emissions, so we can try and repair the damage already done by global warming, instead of contributing to it.
We need to move away from pollution monstrosities for our cars like coal and oil, and toward cleaner resources like hydrogen and ethanol. And at the power plants, we should use wind, solar, and nuclear instead of fossil-fuel burning power plants.
We need to move away from non-renewable resources like oil, which can only be replenished in a million years, and towards renewable resources like Biomass, which can be constantly replenished.
Besides energy resources, we also need to preserve natural parks-a vision of what the world will be if we turn back the time on pollution, and our rainforests-icons of natural beauty. The future of natural resources is now, and we need to do something for the better about it.

    Transportation

Transportation-without it, we would be powerless to go anywhere, and so the human race would wither up and die. But to transport a human or an object from point A to point B, we need to use natural resources. And for that, the perfect vehicle hasn’t been designed yet.
Our choice in natural resources in use for our vehicles has been poor for the last 100 years. The main transportation of choice-the car, emits tons of emissions every time you drive. Right now, to save gas, and save the environment, is a hybrid car. These cars are powered by both an electric motor and a regular engine. At very low speeds and start-up, the electric engine powers the car, and the regular engine gives power if needed, and vice versa for when the car is driven at regular or highway speeds. Another alternative is ethanol- a renewable fuel made from crops that have high starch content. Ethanol could be an alternative to gasoline, or could be an additive to it (E85, E15, etc.). Another advantage of it is that it lowers the amount released in the atmosphere of some emissions, even though C02 emissions could either decrease, or increase, depending on the kind of crop used to produce ethanol. A problem with this kind of fuel is that if we use too much, Ethanol production would compete with food production.
In the future a promising solution to fossil fuels could be hydrogen cars, which
Has the best ratio of energy-to-weight ratio. The hydrogen can be extracted by extracting hydrogen from water, by the breaking down of hydrocarbons, or reacting water with a metal. Unfortunately, fuel cells currently need platinum as a catalyst, so if all the cars in the world switched to hydrogen, the entire worlds platinum reserves could potentially be used up in two years.
So, why is this stuff important? Why should we care about all this? Well, car emissions are one of the main sources of pollution, and they use up much of our country’s oil. If we find a replacement, we wouldn’t need to have to worry about our oil dependency on unstable places in the world. If we switch to alternative energy sources, we could do something better in the Middle East without having to worry about an oil embargo or another thing that would cut our oil supply. Right now the United States foreign oil dependency is kind of like a sick baby-something that barely supplies its oil, and is counting on other countries to

    Producing, Exchanging, and Distributing

Producing, exchanging, and distributing resources is basically, the act of extracting the resources, and bringing them to where they need to go, in the process trading some resource for another. It is human need to trade a resource they have plenty of, but another country doesn’t have a lot of, for aresources they don’t have a lot of but the other country does.
Resources, getting them to where they need to go, and in the process, exchange the goods one country has for another one’s. This can also be done inside a country, as when an individual trades with a company, for example.
The enemy in our quest to fight global warming is oil and coal-they produce lots of emissions.
Alternative power sources are desperately needed, since fossil fuels are going to run out soon, and the production of them will continue to get more expensive, more dangerous, and more difficult as companies dig for fossil fuels at difficult spots. Another reason, besides large emissions, that oil is bad for us, is the fact that oil spills can happen, and severely disrupt the ocean’s fragile ecosystems. Arguably the best choice for an alternative power source is solar energy. It is also a good choice for people because power will continually get more expensive with people who stay with traditional power plants, because the cost of fossil fuels will keep on rising. In fact, currently, the average payback time is currently only 1.8-3.3 years. But there is a dark side to solar energy. The sunlight is turned into DC, which must be converted into AC for use, so there is a power reduction of 4-12%. Also, pollution is letting less and less sunlight reaches the earth. For right now, a viable alternative energy source is nuclear energy, and there are already many nuclear power plants. Ever since a meltdown (over heating of core at nuclear power plant) happened at Chernobyl happened, though, not many new nuclear power plants have been built since then. The downside is that the power plant needs uranium, which is a non-renewable resource, and mining it produces greenhouse gases, and the waste can be potentially dangerous.
The city you live in probably has electricity and other necessities. But did you know how the power gets to your home? The power goes through a power grid, a network of sub-stations, cables, towers, and transformers, to make sure that when you flick a switch, almost always there will be light. Sometimes, though, there are blackouts, or brownouts, when there are problems with the power grid.
A natural resource that until recently, we thought would practically never run out of is fish, but the fish are set to disappear by 2048. In fact, currently, 29 species have collapsed (having their catch decline by 90% or more) already.

    Communications

Communications-without it, we wouldn’t be the human race, because without communications, each country or group would be isolated without it. New technologies are helping us achieve better communications-such as cell phones, which let us communicate over wireless networks. There is also a place with huge potential for communications- the internet. With more and more people switching to broadband (a.k.a. high speed internet) as it gets cheaper, and satellite internet being able to reach rural areas, people/organizations can put up web sites, and so they could reach more people at a low price instead of having to put up advertisements/fliers. That means that environmental organizations can reach many people over the internet.

    Protecting and Conserving

Now this is something we all should do. If we do this, the whole planet will have lots less pollution, and be an overall more cheery and less bleak place.
Some energy sources besides Solar that could be used for power and emit little or no pollution are wind energy-could be used in areas with little sunlight but with wind, and geothermal energy, which gets its energy from deep inside earth. A problem with this is that harmful gases might be released into the atmosphere. And there is tidal power, which produces electricity from a dam. It is a reliable energy source, since it relies on the tides, but the initial building of the dam is expensive, although the maintenance isn’t, and it could disrupt the wildlife in the river.
A big thing that we should watch for is the air. Polluted air is harmful to people, plants, and animals, and if the air is polluted, the rain might be acidic, which can corrode statues, and pollutants can deplete some of the Ozone layer in the Stratosphere, which acts as a barrier against harmful rays. The burning of fossil fuels, forests, biomass, and nitrogen fertilizers emit pollutants like lead up into the air. Another bad thing about pollutants in the air is smog, a thick fog that covers cities where heavy oils/coal is burned, such as places like China and Eastern Europe. Nature’s natural way of cleaning up the pollutants is rain, snow, and wind, but the tall buildings of a city can slow the wind down. Factory scrubbers clean the pollutants before they are released in the air.
If we continue using Fossil Fuels, Global Warming will continue to intensify. Only 54% of the earth’s North Pole ice in the 1950s will be here in the 2050s, and rising temperatures are attributed to the spread of diseases.

Toxic waste is the stuff of science fiction, when that person is transformed into a huge monster or something. Toxic waste doesn’t do that that, but it has many harmful effects. When it is burned, Harmful dioxins are emitted into the air, which could be that people with asthma would need inhalers. And polluted water is equally as bad, if not worse. The polluted plankton can contaminate the plankton, and the food chain goes up from there.
So, that’s why protecting and conserving is important. I f we don’t protect and conserve, the previous phenomena caused by pollution will happen a lot more often.

    Providing Education

Providing education is basically school and other forms of education to educate the public. For example, in school, we need to teach our children about alternative energy and other potential earth-savers, and to conserve energy by telling them the truth about global warming and how to save power by using a fan vs. an air conditioner. Going to school isn’t the only educator, though. The zoo can also educate people without knowing it, while providing a fun experience. Movies can also educate the public, too. For example, in the movie An Inconvenient truth, Al Gore educates and alerts people about global warming, and makes them want to do something with facts like if the ice caps melt, then the sea level would rise 20 feet and create 100 million refugees, and that C02 levels are at their 650,000 year peak. Movies like that might save the earth.
So why should we care about education? Well, future generations won’t be educated about global warming and the like, so they won’t care about the environment.

    Tools

Tools-without them, mankind would just be another animal species, and wouldn’t have to worry about saving the environment. But since we have tools, and we can do practically anything as long as we have our tools, natural resources, and ingenuity.
And as our resources we pursue are dwindling, and supply for them grows, we find ways to harvest our resources even more effectively (think saws vs. huge, tree-ripping bulldozers), and so we need new ways of generating energy .For example, a new technology is generating electricity organically, by using bacteria and a metal rod, which could be another source of energy. Another could be fusion-a way of producing nuclear power without producing as much waste as the nuclear power process called fission. And our tools can prove that the natural resources are dwindling, such as satellites taking photographs of the rainforest over time, proving that the rainforest is shrinking. But we can save natural resources. For example, people can wear solar backpacks, without having to use city electricity. The backpacks have solar panels and a variety of connectors, so you could charge your Ipod or other portable electronic device in this backpack.
    So why is

The backpack examined. Stylish and eco-friendly!
    Providing Recreation

Imagine yourself in a natural park. Just you and the road; man and nature united. Suddenly, a big gas-guzzling Hummer speeds through, making you cough and sputter. This is the future of recreation. We are taking more from Mother Nature than giving back to her. Pretty soon, the whole world will be a sprawling metropolis full of people and pollution, if we don’t protect the natural beauty.
Well, everybody does things that contribute to the parks without knowing it. It’s when you recycle. Your plastics you recycle turn into plastic lumber, and the plastic lumber in turn becomes a park bench or playground material for parks. But people do things bad for the environment, too.
Ah… the Natural Parks. They are a view into the past, of an ancient time when only animals were in the world. But they are getting polluted and are slipping away. There are so many visitors in the parks that drive cars that the natural parks could become smoggy wastelands. One Natural Park, Zion N.P., has decided to do something about it. The visitors in that Natural Park travel around in a fleet of low-emission shuttles.
Another thing that helps preserve the ecosystem is eco-tourism. It attracts many tourists, and has much less of an impact on the environment compared to traditional tourism. It focuses on local cultures, adventures in the wilderness, volunteering, new ways to live, and personal growth. Besides that, it can also educate people about ecology.
Providing recreation is important because we all need to do something to do with the environment in our lives. Whether it is going to the park or taking a tour around the world, we modify the environment and the world around us everywhere we go to take a trip.

    Organizing and Governing

Organizing and governing is the framework that keeps organizations and countries together. Without it, a group/country would be powerless, like a jellyfish. The government is also the only way to pass into action environmental laws. Without the government, companies would be able to pollute all they want and we couldn’t do very much about it, but we have government to interfere.
Oil. It has caused wars, social instability, and other negative consequences. Not to mention it pollutes, and we get our oil from the Middle East and other volatile regions of the earth. Also, when it is transported overseas, there could be an oil spill, which completely messes up an ecosystem. These things could be avoided, though. The spills can be prevented by passing stricter regulations, and investing more money in alternative energy and ethanol.
An attempt by the world to try to limit emissions was the Kyoto Protocol. Every major country in the world signed-except for the United States, and Australia. The goal of the Protocol was to reduce emission of greenhouse gasses by 5% compared to the 1990 levels by 2008-2012 for developed (called Anexx-1 in the protocol).160 countries and over 55% of global greenhouse gas is under the Kyoto Protocol, and even in the places that are not covered by the Kyoto protocol, already environmentally-friendly and developed countries can sell these carbon Credits which they can sell to Anexx-1 countries.

    Moral/Ethics

Moral and Ethics is the human urge to do what’s right, as sometimes what is legal is not correct. Even sometimes people who try to save the environment do that. Take the group earth first. It practices a dangerous practice called tree spiking, putting a metal spike into trees to discourage logging. It does more than that. It could potentially injure, or even kill, a logger. Other ways of saving the environment are not good, too. People in Indonesia burn forests so that they can make biomass.
But trashing the environment is also, if not more, unethical. Take the alarming amount of plastic in the oceans. In fact, the ratio of Zooplankton to plastic is one pound of Zooplankton to two and a half pounds of Plankton near the California Coast. And since the plankton looks like plastic, the fish who eat plankton eat the plastic too, and so the fish who eat those fish consume some plastic too, and it moves up the food chain, eventually to the birds-and us, so we are eventually harmed, and so are the birds, and everything else inside that food chain. That domino effect can really mess up and ecosystem. Creatures on land die, too. Baby sea turtles die of ingesting plastics when they try to find food to eat.
There are also ecosystems in danger on land, too. The tropical rainforests may disappear by 2025. As a matter of fact, 100 acres of rainforest is deforested in a minute. If we continue at that rate, then the entire rainforest ecosystem will be wiped out completely, and along with it, the wide variety of plants and animals found there.

    Aesthetic needs
Aesthetic needs-the hunt for the biggest diamond, the shiniest emerald. Believe it or not, it ties in wth natural resources. For example, you know that beautiful mahogany table you’re just drooling to get, that actually contributes to global warming and other enviormental maladies. Let’s take a look.
The wood you want comes from forests, which besides mahogany trees, includes various other types of botany. Loggers need to cut down many trees to get to that one oak or mahogany tree. A solution to that Which pleases you more aethetically, a oil refinery or a great, big dam? The more aethetically pleasing energy sites are often the cleaner, more reusable energy sources.

  65. Purple Panda, life is good. I’ve got a part time job at a veterinary clinic. I get paid $8 an hour, which is more than the state’s minimum wage of $7.50 an hour. During the summer I was getting lots of overtime in, as two days a week I was working from 9 to 6, with a half hour lunch break, and of course, we rarely actually get off on time, ’cause there’s always something going on.

I’m still working with the birds also. I got bit on the chin by a bald eagle a few months ago! I had caught it with a blanket, but it managed to get it’s head out of the blanket, twisted its head around, and bit me on the chin. It hurt pretty bad. I’ve still got a small little scar there.

My sister’s off at college, so I’m living the great life! I definitely am enjoying being an only child…

And THP, yes I will continue typing up more of my HP fanfic as soon as I have a chance.

Alaska weather is crazy!!!!! We’re currently undergoing our annual midwinter thaw, where it warms up to above freezing, all, or most, of the snow melts, and it usually rains. The rain hasn’t happened yet, but it’s currently about 40 degrees outside…I hope it doesn’t rain, or I might have trouble getting out of our driveway when it turns to ice–yup, I’ve got my driver’s license, I got it back in August.

which reminds me, some of you might remember that I was taking care of orphaned baby birds during the summer? Well, I started out with a couple of Canda geese goslings–Fred and George–then i got another couple–Bill and Ginny–Ginny died before the day was over though, I think she was kind of sick to begin with though. Then I got another smallish one–Ron. Then maybe a couple or so weeks later, after Fred, George, Bill and Ron had already been let loose in the yard, and were well on their way to being fully fledged, I got another gosling–Percy–who was very small and still all fluff, not mature feathers. However, Percy matured at a much faster rate than the others, unfortunately though, one evening when he was loose with the other five, none of them came home that night, and the next morning (the morning my mom made me take the stupid road test to get my license) the five that could fly came home without Percy. I would like to believe Percy was kidnapped, because he was very sweet and, unfortuanetly very imprinted on shoes, he was probably killed by a person or animal. Of course, people are animals….Nasty ones. No offense to any of you people. The other five were also imprinted, but not as much as Percy, but they would still follow any people around, they followed the fishermen who were out in boats on the lake, went swimming in the lake with the neighbor kids, until one horrible day in August or september, when a couple of bloody bastards shot threee of them on the lake, where it’s not even legal to discharge firearms, and besides which, my geese weren’t more than 20 feet away, and there was a fisherman out there may be a couple dozen yards away. So, it turns out the canoe the bastards was in belongs to a neighbor who lives on the other side of our next door neighbor, but claims to have been watching TV, and said some of his friends sometimes use the boat, but none of them were using it today, and it whoever was using it was doing it without his permission. But considering they beached the boat on his property and must have either hid out in his house, or ahd a car parked on his property taht they were using, because to get to the publi c parking on the lake, they would have had to walk through the subdivision with a gun, and three dead geese, and we would have seen them when we drove down to the other end of the lake. So the bastard who lives their knows damn well who killed them if he didn’t do it his bloody self. I hate my neighbors. They’re all a bunch of bastards!!!!!!

Anyway, I also raise four teal–Harry, Hermione, Hagrid, and Neville–who survived to be released, and then disappeared for a while and came back with a fifth teal. Neville wasn’t expected to live, since his lower beack was broken in the middle, and was loose and floppy. However, he still managed to get enough to eat. He also turned out to be rather accident prone. After he was released, when him and his sibling came back in the yard, he had a leech bulging out through his nostrils. Me ‘n’ mom chased him around the yard trying to catch him and get it off, but before we even got close to catching him, it exploded, and he seems to have gotten over that.

i also had five scaups–Buckbeak, Norbert, Fluffy, Trevor, and Crookshanks–Crookshanks died a while after I got him. I just got home from work one day to find him dead in the box, with his buddies walking/hopping around. The others made it safely to release, and were released with eight scaups that another woman had raised. We never saw the majority of the scaups again, but a few kept coming back for a while. One of them kept coming back much longer than the others, and one day I noticed he was blind iin one eye, and unfortunately, he probably didn’t make it, as he always slept with his good eye on the side where it was unlikely that predators would come from.

Anyway, that kinda sums up my life….

By the way, didn’t there only used to be two GAPAs, Robert and Rosanne?????? Or did I just never notice that there were more….

So, I gather you like birds… D’you know the band Falconer? “You’re flying on wings of serenity, into the blinding light…” or this one: “Spirit of the hawk, wild and free, master of the skies, creature of the northwind sea, flying ever so high!”

Oh, and how old are you?

And no, I don’t know the band Falconer.

    How old are you?

You gather I like birds, but you don’t gather that I’m like the biggest Potter fanatic ever?????

speaking of HP, I’ve got a riddle (yes, from HPatGoF, no peeking at the book to find the answer!!!!):

First think of a person who lives in disguise,
Who deal in secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next tell me what’s always the last thing to mend,
The middle of middle and end of the end?
And finally give me the sound often heard
During the search for a hard to find word.
Now string them together, and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?

Alaska weather is crazy? Seems like that’s a national trend. In southern Arizona, we got SNOW last monday. It all melted by noon, but that was incredible. And now, a week later, it’s back to t-shirt weather. Seriously, I didn’t even bring a jacket today.

Also, why did you post an announcement? (I think it’s a good idea, I was just wondering what sparked the idea).

    Thanks!

  74. I don’t run the contest, but I imagine you could just e-mail your entry and let the editors worry about whether to insist on a signature.

Contest deadlines usually go on the MuseBlog calendar. We haven’t posted any for 2007 yet, but I happened to be glancing at the January contest page and thought it might be a good idea to post a reminder. That’s all.

Science fair? I, the science geek, the only person in my school district to enter a science project in the competitive fair every consecutive year since fifth grade when it’s your first year alllowed in (and win awards!), am interested. What’s it about? Do you actually have a schedule you work on it with and that’s why you have to leave? Are you entering it in fairs? Which ones?

My answers to those questions: fractals and Pollock, yes, but I’m three weeks behind and give it lower priority then museblog, yes, the school district competitive fair, then if I place in my category (since as of now five or six people are coming, not a problem), to the regional science fair.

I brought a pinepple to school and gave it to a kid name Jake, who I chose because 1) I don’t know him that well and thought it’d be a nice way to get to know him better 2) I knew he had a good sense of humo and would appreciate the joke.

I also brought crayons to school and handed them out to everyone. It was REALLY FUN. Lots of peope got really excited. I strongly recommend doin this.

My friend Greer gave me a waremelon name Lucy that I had to lug around all day.

I got a hot-pink bunny t-shirt, a Muse Academy notebook and a Pwt Pwns magnet for my birthday.

It rained and I wore turquoise polka dot rainboots, skinny jeans, a bright yellow t-shirt, my sea shell necklace and my mexican man earings.

  100. Hey, it snowed. Like, a whole centimeter or something!
Best part of my English homework:
Now I get to have my fun. Being a girl, naturally my main interest is torturing boys. Boys would be required to wear pants up to their waists with tucked in shirts and bow ties. I know this would be extremely hard on the boys (I don’t know how they’d live without their boxer shorts showing), but in the words of Calvin’s father (think Calvin and Hobbes): “It builds character.” Girls, of course, would be able to wear whatever they wanted. Title IX would also be harshly enforced, with boys cheerleading at girls’ games. I’m sure that’s the way it was always intended.

Doesn’t speak too highly of the rest of the essay, I know, but I liked the Title IX idea. xD

The Flamablamablous? the Froody? Teh pwnage? Ooh! I know. Ebeth the Uber. How’s that? The uber what, you ask? The uber everything. The ubiquitous uber! w00t w00t! And i hope i spelled that right. Probably didn’t. Oh well. Do umlauts work in names? Yeah, otzi’s got one, no? Sveet…

Don’t ask how much sugar i had today. I’ll tell you anyway. Lessee, two packs of sour gummy worms, about five pieces of choklit from hecht, a bagel with choklit peanut butter (!!! monica has the most AMAZING food) and M&Ms, two snickerdoodle cookies, a no-bake cookie, and a choklit chip cookie. Oh and a strawberry bon-bon. Whew.

So i definitely got an A- on the DBQ. Whee! *is extremely happy*

noah joined jazz band. hewwitt and i named him harry 2 (in honor of the first harry, who was also not named harry but aaron. Both harrys are currently in mc’s bodybag, aka tenor sax. mc is hewwitt, btw. Matt, hewwitt, mc hewwitt, mc, whatever. I have multiple names for everybody. Anyway.) So noah will end up in the bodybag. Happily. He dropped his trumpet twice today within the space of half an hour. *smacks head* oh and his mouthpiece once too.

and apparently schneids is a canadian elf…carolyn said supersneaky had this dream where schneids was a little elf and went around saying “eh” to everybody, so now whenever somebody says “eh” in front of him we all crack up…cuz he’s a canadian elf. yah, eh?

  103. Whoooo, lunch! I don’t have any choklit today, though…

Some kid in my Eeeeengleeesh class left the room because either it was too hot or he was really squeamish [we were talking about the meat industry]. We did nothing, and I could be in 4th lunch with the people I actually know/like. My lunch is boooooring. Worse than last semester by far!

I wrote a long post last night, but my dad sort-of attacked the off-button on my computer, and, well, it died. I may retrieve/rewrite it? Dunno…

Anyway, tonight is meet-the-teacher goodness, and I didn’t hand in three of my HW assignments for chem because I completely forgot. Nooooot good. So my avg isn’t looking too hot, despite the hundred on the last test I got.

I hope my calc teacher doesn’t mention that test we had today…..

I’m such a fiend this semester. Whoops.

    So. Anyway.

Lemon Curry, you’re back! And so is sam the tenrec, and I already addressed Michelle/Luna. This is smashing!

Meh. I am so bored. And should probably do those chem assignments. Nah. Eventually. As in, whilst my parents are off meeting my teachers.

Maybe my sister will go and I’ll have the house to myself? I hope so. Many kids go with their parents for that….weirdness, I know. Not SM! But her sister, hopefully!

I already SQUEE-d about the science club trip, right? I think so…

Art class is going to be horrible again today. Predictibly, we didn’t have a delay.

Everyone is saying that we will not have school on Friday…. Don’t you just hate when people assume that there is going to be a snow day. And talk loudly and obnoxiously about how we’re totally not going to. And it’s a lose-lose situation. They’re right and go on about how they “called it” if there is a snow day, and the idiots look like bigger idiots if there’s not a even a delay and whine about it and how “it’s not fair” if we do have school. Either way, SM is annoyed out of her bloody mind. I don’t generally like my peers, can you tell? Thank Lord Modem for MB. *happy nerd party*

Old people are cool, though. As in geriatric patients. Especially if they’re crazy. They’re sooooo much fun. Yay, old persons! Back in my day….. xDxDxD

  107. 120, yup, I think I remember you….Not anything about you, but the name’s familiar…..

128, yeah I plan on going to one of the release parties for B7 also. I went to one for B6 while we were on a family vacation to Florida. We had a seven day pass to Disney World, and we were on about day 3 or 4. The day of the party, we’d gone to Animal Kingdom, and had gotten there when it opened, which was something like 9 in the morning, and since my grandma lives at least an hour and a half away, we’d all been up since at least 7 probably….And of course we stayed ’til it close, which was actually pretty early compared to the other parks. Sometime in the late afternoon early evening, ’cause we went to my aunt and uncles for dinner, and then went to the bookstore for the release party. Everybody got a ticket with a number on it, and when midnight arrived, everybody had to get in line in order of their numbers. I was either 120 or 121. I’m too lazy to run downstairs and look in my box of Potter stuff to find out for sure…

They had a trivia game, but almost none, if any of the prizes were HP related. I got a small keychain flashlight as a prize, but it’s battery died the next day before I’d even used 4 hours, and it broke itself just lying in my pile of souvenirs doing nothing sometime before the end of vacation.

There was also a game, where they had a tape with quotes from one of the audio editions of the Potter books. The dude narrating would say a small little thing about the person, not anything that was really a huge giveaway, but if you knew enough about certain aspects of Potter, you might be able to get it. Then it would go on to the quote. I think I was first to answer two of them correctly. The one, I got it just from the beginning of the description. It said something to the affect of ‘This unlucky fellow was born the same time as Harry Potter.’ My hand shot in to the air, and I was like Neville Longbottom!!!! Fortunately, his middle name was never mentioned in the books anywhere, because I didn’t know it, and the guy was being very picky about you having to have the entire name. For one that was for Voldemort, we all kept saying different name for him. One kid said Voldemort, he said we had to give him the entire name. so the next kid said Tom Marvolo Riddle, ’cause that is his full entire name. He wouldn’t accept that either. Finally we all gave up, and he told us the answer. It was something to the effect of: ‘I am Lord Voldemort, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Name, You-Know-Who, the Dark Lord, Tom Marvolo Riddle.’ I probably don’t have those various names in the correct order, but the guy was being unreasonably picky. Especially since only one of those is truly his name. Then there was a quote from Dumbledore, I think it had to do with his comment to Harry in Philosopher’s Stone about tru th being a powerful thing. (I think that was in that book.) Anyways, i raised my hand and blurted out ‘Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.’ It was great. Everbody was looking at me like, ‘How the heck do you know that?????’

Speaking of fully names for people, where in the books does it say Hermione’s middle initial/name? ‘Cause one of the quotes was from Hermione, and the girl who answered said either Hermione J. Granger or Hermione Jane Granger, and I’ve never been able to find where that is in any of the books. Am I missing it? Or do you know?

For the release of B7, I’m considering wearing my Halloween costume from last Halloween. I dressed up as Luna Lovegood. it was great. I was considering entering the October Halloween costume contest in muse, but my costume wasn’t even finished by the deadline.

for my costume, my mom got me a pair of black mary janes at a thrift store where she works, a pair of grey knee length socks from Fred Meyers, and a long sleeve white shirt also from the thirft store. For the skirt, I managed to find a knee length dark grey skirt that was my mom’s in highschool. (It was wool and really hot. Actually, I was getting extremely overheated just sitting on the couch watching movies on Halloween!) Mom got a dark grey V-neck sweater at the thrift store, too, which was unfortunately an XXL or XXXL, so she took it in to fit me, since I’m more of size small. She added blue and bronze trim to the collar and waist of the vest, just like in the movies. Three stripes, blue on the outside, bronze on the inside. Also, she made me a blue and bronze tie (all the HP ties available online were blue and silver, the colours that the idiot movie people changed ’em to). She also knitted be a blue and bronze scarf. And she made me a black robe, line with blue, and she even did it so it was reversible (she made it ’cause she refused to buy me one online, she said they were too expensive for somethin I was only going to wear once. I did point out that I was going to be wearing it more like twice, but she didn’t seem to care). She bought me a Ravenclaw patch emblem online, which she stiched onto the left side of the robe, you know, like it is on the movies. She also bought two little black clasp things to stitch on the front to fasten it shut. I stitched them on, since it was taking her way to long to do since she was never home when it was light out side, and she said she couldn’t tell what was the clasp and what was the black fabric with out more light (the sockets in our house only take 60 watt bulbs, so it’s pretty dim in here in winter), and she kept going through both layers of fabric instead of just the black layer. So, I stitched on the twto halfs she hadn’t stitche don yet, and removed the two she had, ’cause I thought they looked a little messy, and on one of them, she’d gone thorugh both layers of fabric at one point… Oh, yeah, I made myself a bottle cap necklace, too, but I didn’t end up wearing it. I used my older sister’s Snapple cap collection, which, unfortunately was growing mold–yuck!–and smelled horribly like Snapple. I also had a pointed black witches cap that was in our box of halloween stuff. Mom ordered a magic wand for me online, but we never got it, they never cahsed her check, either, so it wasn’t too big a deal. For christmas, though, she got me a magic wand to make up for it! So, I’ll wear that tucked behind my ear with the rest of my costume for the B7 release. It’ll be great fun!!!!!

Oh, yeah, since you said you like HP, on one of the old potter threads, I don’t remeber which, I had a really long, boring compilation of all the differences between Philosopher’s stone and Sorcerer’s Stone, although it doesn’t cover the whole book, ’cause I haven’t finished comparing them yet.

I also have the beginning of an HP fanfic at https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=270#comments I dunno if that’ll link or not, I don’t know how to do links, but if nothing else you can just coopy and paste it into the address bar. I intend to type some more of it up sometime soon when I have time….But I still haven’t even written as far as Christmas time in the story…Oh, well!

  111. Ebeth has moved to have a new ultimate question: WHAT IS INIGO MONTOYA’S REAL REAL NAME?!?!?!?!?!

The answer, by default, is 42.

I second this motion and also propose we quote The Princess Bride profusely and shamelessly :)

  112. gradster — was that latin?
you know what is the best latin word? “ullula” it means “owl” and its especially fun when you say it in a high squeaky voice. kim and i made that up when we took latin class at the community college cuz we were really really bored. now we can randomly look at each other and be like “ullula!” and no one knows what the heck we are doing  this was, like, last fall, btw.
omg what was i gonna say????????????????????? oh yeah!
did you ever notice that when you split up the word “nowhere” you get “now here”?

  113. squee, latin!

i like pulchritudinous. (which is technically english, but it comes from latin) It sounds totally geek-hippie. Pulchritudinous, dude!

josh and i started randomly dissing each other in latin today during lunch. As follows…

    Josh: scelestus puella!
    Me: molestus puer!
    Josh: tu est fatuus!
    Everybody else: wtf???

oh and then dan started calling me…something i can’t remember…it was like a fruity damari or something. it’s like seafood i think. but i didn’t know what it meant and i was like “um..is that dubious? should i be insulted? i’m confuzzled…”

Inigo montoya indeed! w00t for the princess bride! 42!

some random guy from ibm came to our latin class today. he just lurked in the back and read a book. ’twas weird.

  114. Good afternoon.

Yesterday I won a burrito from Chipotle–I got the highest score in the grade on Vocab. The teacher pulled me out of Astronomy just to tell me that. And we were talking about the ISS! Anyway, I’m really excited. I’m getting it Friday. People keep asking if they can have some. Of course not! Dude, I won it! I’m bringing Tabasco sauce, though. Yay!

Latin. Latin. Latin? People, please! Dead language alert! Yeah, I’m Metis, but that’s my culture. It’s different.

  115. 153 ~ You killed my father. Prepare to die.

128 ~ I haven’t been to a release party yet. I’m dying to go to a Deathly Hallows party since I’ve been a fan for nearly ten years without making it to one. I was in Romania when Half-Blood Prince came out – I spent a good amount of time poring over the guidebook during the train ride from Timisoara (Romanian city and a pretty non-touristy place) to Budapest (capital of Hungary and a very touristy place), looking for an English-language bookstore that might have the book. I was almost ready to give up, when, lo and behold, I came across a bookstore named “Bestsellers.” I was ecstatic, as was my sister. My parents weren’t so much, despite their desire to read the book too. “They may not have it,” they warned several times. My mom was worried that once we had them, we wouldn’t put them down and we’d choose Harry Potter over the exciting European sights. We pretty much had to swear on our lives that we’d save them for the plane. When we got to the bookstore, I nearly cried in happiness. They had a whole display full of HBP! We bought two copies at 5000 forints apiece. I cried on the plane. ‘Nuff said.

  116. 156-Fruit of the sea?

I’m not officially learning Latin, but I’m catching on to it just because so many of my friends are learning it, and I’ve taken Spanish for, like, ever, which is a romantic language, or mostly taken from Latin. Like, today, I partially translated “Dona eis (sp?) requiem”, from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I got as far as “Give us…”, and then I thought it was peace, or something of the sort, and my grandma told me it was rest…so I was close. Spanish definitely helps, though.

As you wish!”, as he tumbles down the wanna-be mountain….

  121. 155- Pulchritudinous is my new favorite word.

Very proud to note the Ig Nobel reference in yesterday’s episode of House. I was probably one of 3 people watching who noticed.

On the princess bride- My friends and I were watching “The Illusionist” during which they annoyed me by predicting every plot twist in a movie based on plot twists, hold on, I’m getting to my point. So the main charachter said “as you wish” a couple of times, and, as we make it a point to watch it at least once a year, we noticed this immediately. So, after the insane accusations of plagiarism, a couple of them started suspecting a relationship between the main charachter and the prince(to whom he had said the sainted words) Alas, this particular plot twist failed to restult, but I must say we had the most fun we’d had since we’d seen each last (the month before, we went to the same elementary school for the gifted program but have since drifted apart, so we take turns holding a reunion once a month. This time it was my turn.) We all went back to the alma mater to speak with our 5th grade teachers, the incomparable Mrs. D and Mrs. S, and found a dead dear in the woods near the school whom my friends named fred. Did I mention fred was a rotting pile of bones? Yes, my friends are perfect. I wore my muse apparel to try to see if I could find any musers among the kids, but school had already ended. Oh well. Such is life. VVV fun though.

  124. 164~ yup, 14 is the age to be. I don’t even remember being 13… but I like 14 better… I remember for my 14th birthday, my present was to fly in a private jet to South Dakota. being in the plane was cool, but sioux falls, south dakota is the most boring place in the world. We had to pick up a senator who was on the campaign trail. I didn’t agree with his politics, so it was a little awkward. he kept on asking questions like “What mountain is that?” which got a little old because we can only recognize like ONE mountain from the top. so we were saying “uhhhh… I think that’s…” and there wasn’t anything to read because the trip was a surprise. At least I got to brag to my friends…

Fourteen is pretty much the first age (here anyway) where you get new privileges. Like, when you’re fourteen you can get a job, sixteen you can drive, eighteen you can vote, and twenty-one you can drink.

I got a 100 on the math a regents!!! Only like six people in the seven 2H classes at my school did!!!! Anyone else take it?

When you’re 14, you can volunteer at the library. Apparently, 13 year olds can’t and they don’t really let you until you’re 15 anyway, or so I’ve heard.
