Happy 446th Birthday, William Shakespeare!

Fear no more the heat o’ the sun;
Nor the furious winter’s rages,
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages;
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney sweepers come to dust.

Fear no more the frown of the great,
Thou art past the tyrant’s stroke:
Care no more to clothe and eat;
To thee the reed is as the oak:
The sceptre, learning, physic, must
All follow this, and come to dust.

Fear no more the lightning-flash,
Nor the all-dread thunder-stone;
Fear not slander, censure rash;
Thou hast finished joy and moan;
All lovers young, all lovers must
Consign to thee, and come to dust.

No exorciser harm thee!
Nor no witchcraft charm thee!
Ghost unlaid forbear thee!
Nothing ill come near thee!
Quiet consummation have;
And renowned be thy grave!

    ‘Tis Talk Like Shakespeare Day! In truth, ’tis. Or at least ’tis officially Talk Like Shakespeare Day in Chicago by proclamation of our mayor.

      Oh, Twelfth Night. ‘Tis my favorite Shakespeare play (although I love them all). I was in it in 8th grade. I played Maria.

        Ooh. Really? I was an understudy for Maria! But since she didn’t die or anything I was a weird police lady/man. :)

    Very happy returns, Mr Shakespeare!

    I can memorize the prologue of Romeo and Juliet. It’s pretty cool.

    Shakespeare! Happy Birthday! I don’t know you personally (though I have seen both your memorial in Southwark Cathedral) But I love your plays… Let’s see, I love The Tempest, A comedy of errors, 12th night, two gentlemen of verona, Romeo& Juliet, a midsummer’s night dream, Richard the III….I think you were going batty when you wrote A Winter’s Tale, but that’s okay, I loved it anyway. And I adore your use of meter.
