Ugh, so many things to do… it’s weird that I actually have to remind myself to sleep, but I got so caught up in the stuff I was working on last night that I didn’t get to bed until 10:38, which made waking up really hard this morning.
Oh, and I believe this may be a first post, which would be a first for me.
Did I mention today is not a good day? I have a math test tomorrow and even though I’m prepared and it’s my best subject I still feel like throwing up. Happy me.
Music-playing went well. I love having an aunt who teaches violin. Unfortunately, I’m going to be in Illinois next Friday, so I won’t be able to go play with her chamber music group. *sigh*
I’m hungry and tired already, which for me is a dangerous combination. When I’m hungry I lose all energy and pretty much just go limp, so lack of sleep already isn’t helping. And I’m too lazy to go get food.
*forces self to walk all the way into the house [through the rain] to make toast*
I got GIMP on my laptop! Thank you Alpaca for installing it for me!
Of course, my laptop refuses to admit that it exists. Alpaca is going to try to fix it tonight. Then I can make myself a gravy.
Whee did anyone know that it is possible to have a sugar migraine?
Or am I just that messed up? -_-
A caking sugar migraine! Sugar!
I now hate sweet things. BLEH.
I ate one bite-sized dark choklit cake thingummy. ONE.
And I now have a migraine.
‘Twas probably the chocolate, actually. My mom has a special diet to prevent her migraines, and chocolate is one of the things she can’t eat.
I get migraines too. Which means I’m probably going to have to follow that diet, or else be in pain half the time. And it cuts out chocolate and cheese and basically all pre-packaged foods and a whole bunch of other yummy stuff.
Whatever, I don’t get them badly yet so I don’t have to worry too much.
7- Get Hannah’s Garden, it was a really good book. By Naomi something.
You know what I did today? Nothing!
And do you know what I plan to do today? Nothing.
I’m not going to do my math homework (it’ll get done in school) and sit down and watch TV, and relax.
*sigh*
Yeah, then he’s been attached to that.
He had the volume on loud when I was trying to watch DW and it was really ticking me off. Thank god for noise blocking earbuds….
In a rare display of yay, while waiting for Ms. Dance Teacher to call us over for the physical fitness test, Atalanta and I inspired the entire class to begin spontaneously doing our own dances to the current music playing. Of course, you’ve got to define “dance” pretty loosely, but it was definitely an attempt to move to the music. Also, we had a who-can-stay-on-their-tiptoes-the-longest contest that lasted for half an hour straight, a push-up contest, a grapevine race across the studio, a spinning contest, and spontaneous complete synchronization of our dancing. Yay!
Okay, to my list of secondary/supporting/obscure characters I really like, I have officially added Captain Fitzgerald from the film Amistad, which we finished watching in class today.
Because how can you not like a cool British dude who goes around in a tall ship patroling the coast of West Africa saving Africans from slave traders? He gets cross-examined by a jerk lawyer who doesn’t believe a slave-trading fortress exists on the coast of Sierra Leone, because Fitzgerald has never seen it directly, and when he finally DOES find the fortress and destroy it with his ship’s cannons, what does he say?
“Take a letter, Ensign. To His Honor, Mr. John Forsyth. My dear Mr. Forsyth, it is my great pleasure to inform you that you are, in fact, correct. The slave fortress in Sierra Leone does NOT exist.”
it’s about a slave ship going to America, and there is a revolt and the slaves land the boat and there is a discrepancy about who they belong to, as well as their treatment while on the boat, and a lawsuit and at the end they get taken back to Africa. I saw it once about six months ago and wasn’t paying that much attention.
Oh, Amistad. We watched that in history… It was pretty good, I guess. I don’t think we ever finished it. And I sort of fell asleep for part of it. (My class is at 8. It’s only natural.)
I am so thoroughly sick of my family’s infighting. I wish my brothers would shut up and stay shut up. Also, after what I consider to be an incredibly productive weekend (I actually did a little homework) I come home form school exhausted, with more homework, and zero motivation. This weekend I have the senior class trip…but before that I need to finish my senior project. Ugghhh.
Bookgirl_me, want to join the Overloaded and Overworked Perennially by School Club? so far it’s just me and Jakob Wonkychair as members, but all unenthused and overworked students are welcome.
I am emotionally blank right now. I really don’t know why, but it’s an interesting experience because I’m not really feeling anything right now. I think it was because I was recently very happy because I’m one of the top ten freshmen academically, and I’ve tired of being excited about that, but I don’t have anything to be sad about, so I’m just blank.
I can’t wait to take psychology, maybe then I’ll finally understand my brain.
Without emotions we wouldn’t be able to make decisions, even simple ones. The logical brain spins its wheels without emotional backup. Of course, emotions left to wander free without some rational checkpoints cause plenty of problems, too.
I…don’t. Weird when everyone else says they do, but I’m constantly moving to new threads so I just check the recent comments box when i do that. Which is approximately every few seconds.
follow ugodotcom on twitter, they are doing ten giveaways (they’ve done four already) to the first person to tweet the secret message on the website (they put up a joss whedon quote in the description of the top story)
the prize is doctor horrible on blu-ray, the guild on DVD, and a documentary or something about firefly
I feel better now, but only marginally. I really should have listened to my stomach and stayed home. The math test was a nightmare- we’re 18 students. Only five understood more than 50% of the set problems and 0 students were able to finish the test (okay, some people just gave up) and she wouldn’t give us more time. That means that even if there was some misunderstanding, only 30% stand a chance of passing the test. I understood the problems, I just didn’t have enough time to finish and I might have been a little smart-alek about the triangle.* I’ll move the full rant elsewhere- it wasn’t hard per se, I just needed about an hour more. We’ll probably have to repeat it, or she’ll mess with the scores in some way to make sure that 51% of the people pass and we don’t have to repeat it.
So, I’m still alive until we get it back (probably on thursday). Hooray.
*We were supposed to prove that the sum of the angles in the triangle ABC was 180° by calculating every angle using the cos alpha formula. I know the formula, I just didn’t have enough time, so I just pointed that the sum of the angles in a triangle has to be 180° or it wouldn’t be a triangle. On one hand, I didn’t calculate it the way she wanted me too (I asked her), on the other I did prove it. *sigh* Honestly, did she think we’re stupid? I cut a few corners on the scalar multiplication and cross product, but just because it took so long to write down the formula we have to use and I don’t think she can dock me points for it (I sort of skipped the bit with the determinants and went straight to the answers).
11 et replies~ I went to see the Amistad (replica) in DC sometime, sheesh, was that two years ago now? *checks date on photo* Oh man, it was two years ago. But in any case, it was cool. Robert and I sang shanties and got strange looks.
I think some of my shipmates have sailed on Amistad at some point too. I’d be interested, since she goes all around the world and all, but I’ve also heard they aren’t too good about actually paying their crewmembers. :/
In science, our group was trying to think of a name that all of us would get, but noone else would. We ended up adding our own references no one else gets in. Right now it is-Killer Coding Ninja GAPAs.
16.1~ Nothing at all, but still if I recall correctly there were a few startled (but in a happy, amused way) people who glanced over to see what these two lunatics were doing singing.
Hurumph. All these interesting things that are happening that I can’t go to, for some reason. Tomorrow night there’s a chanty sing that I’d like to go to, but I can’t because the next day I’m going to IL the next day, and then my aunt’s chamber music group on Friday, and I was thinking about how since I’ve got my license and am now 18 and can drive whoever I want that I could drag some of my friends contra dancing on June 5th, but I’m going to be doing children’s games.
Then after that I’ll be gone until September. Which is great, I know there will be awesome adventures this summer, but still. It’s hard to not think of all the stuff around here (and even not around here) that I’m missing. The grass is always greener, etc. *grumbles*
11.1- A group of African slaves onboard the Spanish ship La Amistad in the 1840s mutiny and try to sail back to Africa, but end up being found by the navy off the coast of Long Island (That’s in New York), and are imprisoned while their fate is decided. A group of abolitionists aranges to defend the slaves in court, against overwhelming political pressure.
12- I am SO in!
Yesterday I felt a weird sense of fear for no particular reason, but I didn’t want it to keep me up, so I sort of played a game with myself painting a picture in my head of Mojave Spaceport.
“Did they do a SpaceShipTwo test flight today?”
“Yes, it’s at the end of the runway.”
“Is Burt Rutan there?”
“Yes, he’s talking to the pilots.”
“What else is he doing?”
“Writing in a notebook.”
“What’s he writing?”
“I don’t know, his handwriting’s messy.”
It actually did relax me, because I was out like a light.
‘Tis new. We found a plug-in that lists a blog’s most popular posts. Right now, it has been counting for only a few hours, but it will become more accurate with time.
Can people please come to the Hot Topics thread? I posted about an issue there that I’m somewhat eager to talk about, but I think it’s gonna die out (the issue, not the thread) soon…
I have a great xkcd comic – I used WinPaint to obscure some bits of it. It should come out obscenity-free. Very funny, though. Here’s the HTML, I took the image, imported it to Paint, fiddled with it, imported it to my blog to get the html, and copied/pasted it here. You might want to make sure the image itself isn’t a link, but it shouldn’t be. Hope it works!
[Sorry, the link didn’t work, but I think your synopsis covers it sufficiently. –Admin.]
If not, the comic consists of this:
Fans turning away latecomers from console-release lines:
Sony/Microsoft:
Guy, speaking to latecomer: “The line’s full, buddy! *swearswearswear*
Nintendo:
Guy speaking to latecomer: “All the consoles are spoken for.
I…I’m so sorry. Do…do you need a hug?”
Sadly, I read every comic and didn’t make the connection of Help I’m Trapped In A Driver’s Liscence Factory Elaine Roberts until I read the article on wikipedia.
no. that site irritates me SO MUCH. so you don’t like xkcd. bfd, other people do. dear xkcdsucks dude, stop whining and write your own damn comic if you really think you’re that much better.
Geez, people, be open. The guy makes some really good points, if you’ll just read it with an open mind.
ebeth- You know, you really don’t have to have a webcomic to criticize a webcomic. You don’t need the ability to make a webcomic, either. I’m sure I couldn’t make a webcomic that anyone at all would visit, no matter how hard I tried. However, I can still tell you that I particularly enjoy a certain webcomic, and I can also tell you that I strongly dislike a certain webcomic.
I will say this: For the longest time, there were xkcd comics that I just didn’t find funny, but I just assumed that it was because there was just some form of humor in it that I just didn’t get. Apparently, there were a lot of other people who didn’t find the comics funny*. The difference between them and me was that I assumed that because the comic was an xkcd comic, it was good and I just didn’t understand what the humor was, because I didn’t know enough.
XKCD used to be a much better comic, and it’s been living off of that reputation for much longer than it deserves. If half the comics Randall put out were put out in a webcomic nobody had heard of, they would be deemed unfunny, I’m sure. There are still some funny xkcds, but much, much fewer.
*How many of you honestly laughed at, say, 631? How about 513? 475? 432 or 455? 744? 739? There are so many more I could name, but I won’t for now.
OK, some xkcd comics are just crude humor. Some of them are very much math/computer science/other geeky thing related. Some of them aren’t funny if you haven’t seen Firefly. But all of these appeal to a significant portion of the fan base. And yes, I did laugh at about half of the ones you listed there.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. I don’t see any point in whining about it. For instance, I don’t enjoy Hark! A Vagrant!, but I don’t go start a ‘blog complaining about it.
There’s nothing wrong with making a blog about something you don’t like. I, for one, like reading the blog, not because I strongly dislike xkcd, but because I like to get different points of view, and I can handle people disagreeing with me. I imagine that he enjoys writing the reviews of the comics, so I don’t see why you care so much about it. Like you said, if you don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s not like he’s using up valuable internet space, or forcing everyone to read his blog. And I don’t think I’m really whining about xkcd. I saw that most people liked it, asked if anyone read the opposing blog, and didn’t start anything at all close to “whining” until I felt I needed to defend myself.
I always thought you encouraged people to voice their opinions, Piggy, but I guess that’s not true if you disagree with them.
Okay, all right, no need to resort to ad hominems and poor logic here.
— For one, I do not read that particular ‘blog, though it seemed as though you said I do (“Like you said, if you don’t like it, don’t read it.”)
— Secondly, your last paragraph is immature, and I know you realize that. Either-or reasoning never got anyone anywhere. It’s obviously not inherently bilateral that you can either encourage people to voice their opinions or disagree with them, but not both. Anyone is free to encourage others to voice their opinions and then disagree with those opinions. There’s no reason why the two would be mutually exclusive.
— I was never trying to say that I “care so much about it” or accusing him of “using up valuable internet space” or “forcing everyone to read his blog”. I was merely voicing my opinion that I personally find such ventures rather useless and slightly oxymoronic. But he’s perfectly free to write the ‘blog.
Now, let’s put this to rest before the flames begin to lick higher, shall we? This thread could do with a tad more lightheartedness.
One of the things I like about xkcd is that it isn’t funny all the time. 513, which you pointed out as one of the unfunny ones, is one of the comics which points out some things that some people can relate too really well. Although not that one in particular, I identify with others in the “moderately depressing snippet of life” genre of xkcd comics, and appreciate those comics for that reason. 695 in particular is one that made me cry.
The past month or so the comics haven’t been great, no. 743? 742? 739? No, these aren’t great. Some of them, like 736 and 735 are still really funny though, so I still find the comic well worth reading.
On the whole, xkcd has its good comics and bad comics, but since there are far more good than bad I would say that it deserves its reputation.
XKCDsucks does have some valid points, but I find it difficult to read when the author seems to be so fundamentally biased against the comic.
i just honestly don’t understand why anyone would waste their time doing a blog like xkcdsucks. i know you don’t have to make something to be critical, but in this case this guy honestly just comes across as bitter and seems to have this attitude that making a funny webcomic is easy and that he should be personally insulted when xkcd makes a less than hilarious comic. i haven’t read the blog in ages (obviously i don’t read it regularly) but from the posts i’ve read, that’s the impression that i got
the other thing is, there -are- cases where the comics are funny and you just don’t understand the humor. just because there are other people who also don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s not -funny,- it’s just more specifically targeted humor. i don’t particularly like penny arcade, but it’s not that the comic isn’t funny, it’s that i don’t relate to the type of humor that they do. good and bad and likes and dislikes are two entirely different categories. you can dislike things that are good, and enjoy things that are bad.
i also get the impression that the people who enjoy it take it WAY less seriously than the people who hate it. yes, it’s a very popular webcomic and gets a lot of recognition, etc, but honestly, it’s a webcomic. if you don’t like it, don’t read it. it’s really not that big a deal. i just hate how people (not you, just people) seem to get personally insulted that “unfunny” (in their view) comics are being created for xkcd, when there are much worse webcomics being made all the time.
also, 513 is a perfect example of what i’m saying. -really- funny in a very sad, touching sort of way if you can relate to the situation. completely pointless if you can’t.
and i personally -love- hat guy, i don’t know why you’re referencing all his comics as unfunny
744 is funny to anyone who has used and/or seen walkthroughs
basically yes, there are different levels of comics, not all of them are absolutely hilarious. but they relate in different ways to different people, and many of the comics that you don’t find funny are things that i find hilarious. so you can’t identify them as objectively unfunny unless you’re doubting my sense of humor, which, sorry to say, i’ve been told i have a pretty fantastic one.
Yeah, well I have the xkcd APP! Beat that, maaaaaan!
I hit the ‘download all’ option.
And then stayed up all night reading backwards from 740 to 1.
Aaaaalllll night long.
Say, anyone like Red vs. Blue? Caboose rules….the ve-hi-cle destroyer!
Well, I could if I wanted to (you’d be amazed what you can do with an iPod Touch when your parents aren’t looking) but honestly, I probably wouldn’t let myself read it until I was 27 or so. I mean, I have put down several books when some of the content was just a little too much for me.
My brothers are going away on a school trip to Boston and Salem tomorrow, and they’ll be gone until Friday. My 7th grade class didn’t get to go on that trip for some reason, even though every other class before or since has, to my knowledge. Oh well, no hard feelings.
I can’t believe I lost my calculator! It’s probably still in the school building, but I couldn’t find it, and I have to pay 90 dollars so that I can take another one home to help with my homework.
Oh, and we got our senior portraits taken today. The photographer looked sort of like Mike Fincke.
Hi. I’m going to go visit a college for four days, and I’m not supposed to take my computer. *sob sob gasp*
So, bye for now. I’ll be back Sunday. ☮ ♥
Fare thee well! I can only second the well-wishing comments. Try to survive your unwired existence. Hopefully the college will be interesting enough that you won’t even miss your computer.
Well, today’s been busy. I has this AP English exam to take (yes it’s past eh testing time already. yes I took it late). Testing started at 12, but I didn’t leave the testing center back to my school until 5. At which point I felt quite nauseous from being in the back seat of a van with poor ventilation, not having more than a few sips of water all day, my cold, and not having enough to eat.
Then I went home. I had to work on my senior project that I’ve been complaining about for ages, because the Powerpoint is due tomorrow. I had to go and take pictures for it. Because my topic is composting, i took a few pictures of worms. Worms are so cute, especially when they wriggle in your hand. They’re surprisingly acrobatic, and they tickle.
Anyways, I’ve been skiving off most of the actual work even now, but I just rediscovered the beauty of Internet research. I’ve had to use a certain number of books for my project, and it’s so much easier to look stuff up online…My project actually seems completable now.
So I’ve been off recently. You might have noticed. I think I posted something about my hard drive crashing, but I didn’t see it on this thread. Probably it’s on the last thread.
Anyway. Update. I replaced the hard drive with a new, larger, hard drive, and Dad started up my computer and started loading the operating system on to it. Half way through, it crashed and exhibited symptoms surprisingly similar to what it had been doing before it got a new hard drive. I ranted to myself about how my computer always has tremendous, impossible-to-fix problems, and waited for Dad to get home again. Once he did, he figured out what the problem was. Apparently, my hard drive and my optical drive crashed nearly simultaneously. So now I have to replace the optical drive as well. We’ve got a spare one, so I should be back on MB with regularity just as soon as I finish all my school and replace my optical drive.
By the way, I also love the ‘Currently Popular’. ‘Tis rather amazing.
We’re moving soon. Boxes have already been started to be packed up. (Only things that need to be moved but aren’t really important, but it’s still so weird to see stuff packaged up like this) It’s insane. It’s so annoying because half the time I’ll need something but, oh noes, it’s in a box….again. Like the other day, I realized that I needed the stapler, but my mom accidentally threw it into a box thinking that we had another stapler, but turns out that one is broken. So here I am, stapler-less. Or at least, until early June when we “completely” move into our new house. Resorting to paper clips = not good. Kidding, but still, you get the idea.
Welcome to the cult! *rubs hands together* Tho as Speller said, the series really gets into its stride only in Season 2, ’round when Spike shows. Still, s1 is enjoyable.
Gah. The family I’m staying’s with choice in background TV noise (FOX news) is caking near driving me back into hibernation. Regardless of politics, dear god the channel is annoying. Or, least ways, Bill O’reilly and his caking show sure as cake is. I mean, even when anyone is saying something that I might actually agree with, the whole way it all is presented and the like, it just makes me want to freaking go strangle something…
AND LO, SCHOOL ENDED, AND THERE WAS SUMMER BREAK, AND THOUGH SHE HAS NOT YET GRADUATED SHE IS NO LONGER IN HIGH SCHOOL.
Aka Jade is no longer a highschooler, as of monday afternoon. How strange it is. I’ve stayed in bed past noon the last 3 days and not gone to bed till after midnight, so it seems I’m off to a good start.
OK, last time I checked, money does not evaporate. And yet, I’ve searched every square inch of this room, and I cannot find my $15. At the point where I lost the money, I hadn’t left my room since I came in (with the money), and the only people who have been in here since then are my roommate and my future roommate neither of whom would ever steal anything… And yet my money is gone. What the cake?
Clearly the Time Lords, or somebody, considered it crucial that you not buy whatever it was you were about to buy. The fate of the universe must have hinged on the outcome. What a close call!
Or– alternatively– the money is not money at all! Instead, it is an ancient demon by the name of M’ulah, whose sole purpose is to create chaos and confusion in the one who currently possesses it. Once Speller is sufficiently confused as to go insane, it will take its true form and leech off her insanity in order to gain power! And with enough power… it will destroy the sun and lead the world in a reign of darkness! Good God!
38 (speller)- So…last you checked, money does evaporate.
I want to be sailing. But I am too busy this summer to do any BIG sailing, just little stuff with the Sea Scouts. But I want the Adventuress! -sniffle-
I’d just like to remind everyone of Larry Gonick’s webcomic, the link to which can be found in the “Other Essential Links” section of the sidebar. I have a feeling that quite a few people forgot about it or never heard about it in the first place.
39- At my mom’s gallery, they used to sell a wallet that came in a fancy box with “Great mysteries of the world” written at the top, and question marks all over it, with “The Bermuda Triangle”, “Stonehenge”, “The Loch Ness Monster”, “Easter Island” and “Bigfoot” written in scrolls.
On the wallet it said “And the greatest mystery of all…”
And on the inside of the wallet, it said in big letters “WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?”
I am supposed to do something to contribute to the well-being of the household today. I think mom meant for me to clean my room but I think it means I need to either a) draw up diagrams of what we’re going to do in case of a zombie apocalypse or b) uh… well b was going to be draw up a diagram of a giant space squid which does not exactly contribute to the household but does sound like fun, and would give me a chance to share all the little details I think of when I think of GSS.
No, flamethrowers are extremely inefficient. Firstly, the zombies can still attack you while they’re on fire; second, comparably, it takes a lot of fuel to run a flamethrower; and third, fuel will likely be in short supply.
Notwithstanding, it can be very satisfying to to torch a zombie so thoroughly.
I was up late last night doing homework, and still had some to finish this morning, so I went in to school late. Towards the beginning of second period–band–since we aren’t doing anything first period.
We had a concert last night, so we were listening to the recordings in class. After we were done, Mr. C told us he had something serious he had to tell us.
Back up. Late this summer, a few days after school started, his wife had a baby. He’s about ten months old now, I guess, and he’s Mr. C’s first child. But being a band director is a huge time commitment; apparently Mr. C has been working sixty and occasionally even eighty-hour weeks. I can believe that; the fall has after-school practices, football games, and Saturday competitions, and the spring has Contest, the spring trip, and the musical. As Mr. C said, “I knew it was getting bad when after the show was over I went home and said to my wife, wow, our son has grown. Because I hadn’t seen him in two weeks.”
This summer, he won’t be at band camp. And come this fall, fall of my junior year, it won’t be Mr. C standing at the front of that classroom, or on the scaffolding of the marching band field. He had to pick between his job and his family, and he chose his family. Next fall, he’ll be teaching at some middle school somewhere; hardly a prestigious position, but one that will let him spend time with his wife and son.
I absolutely understand his decision. I would have done exactly the same thing. To know you’re missing milestones in your new child’s life and that you will continue to do so unless something changes—that has to be a horrible feeling. And I’m sure this was one of the hardest decisions he’s ever had to make. He’s a fantastic band director and I have never had a teacher who is more truly, deeply committed to and enthusiastic about a program. But I don’t begrudge him the decision. He made the right choice.
At the same time, though, it feels as though a rug has been yanked out from under me. Any other teacher, it wouldn’t be much of an occurrence. We’ll miss you, good luck, have a nice life, and so forth. But band… band is a family. It’s different, somehow. Although there are many students in the band, I feel like he knows all of us. He knows who we are; we each have a connection with him. I can’t imagine band without that. Nor can I imagine it without everything he brings to the program. But still, I’ve had so many thoughts of what my senior year in band will be like; what he might say to me and my friends as he presents senior roses, what it will be like to be a leader in the band under him, and so forth. None of that will happen now.
Leadership. I posted excitedly about a month ago here, saying that I’m going to be a horn captain next year. I’m still excited, and I still think we have a fantastic leadership team for next year, but without Mr. C we’ll be… I don’t want to say adrift, exactly, but it will take a lot to pull everything together and keep it running as it would have. We’re all going to have to try twice as hard to be twice as great as we would have been, especially the drum major.
Poor G. He’s going to be a senior next year. One of the major reasons he tried out for DM was so that he could work with Mr. C, who he has looked up to for three years. Now not only is he going to not get to be DM under Mr. C, but he’s going to have to be the force holding the band together. The new director will be great, I’m sure–I have complete confidence that Mr. C will find the best possible candidate–but it will take a while for him or her to learn the ropes, and during that time, G will be the longstanding person with the highest power. That’s an incredible amount of responsibility. After Mr. C told us that he was leaving and made his speech (of sorts), he asked if anyone had anything they wanted to say, and G asked if there were any way, any way at all, that this wouldn’t have to happen. “Afraid not,” Mr. C said. And G cried, as did I and many other members of the band.
I’m afraid this post will sound awfully melodramatic, and perhaps I am overreacting (although right now I don’t feel as though I am). But I just feel kind of lost right now.
I’m sorry, Tesseract. You’re right about how band really is a family. I just want you to remember to try and keep the family of students together. I know without Mr. C things are going to be different, but it is going to be you guys in band who keep his spirit alive. I know how it feels to loose an amazing instructor who practically runs a family of high schoolers, because my tech director is retiring this year to move to Arizona. It’s going to be hard, but the spirit of Dave and Mr. C have to live on in us, the kids who benefited from their teachings. And I don’t think you’re overreacting, because it is rare that you find a teacher who is so amazing at spreading wisdom to kids.
Wow, only one more full week of school. Let’s see… we’ve already taken my history final. The English final is just an “end-of-the-year reflection”, as is the computer final. I’m exempt from the Latin final since I received a silver medal on the NLE. The forensics final is just the usual portfolio. That means that the only real finals are Spanish and precalc. I believe I can get a fifty percent on precalc and keep a B, but the Spanish district assessment is worth a fifth of this semester’s grade. I’m sitting at .2 percentage points above a B right now. PANIC PANIC PANIC
Ah, summer with cloudy skies. Spring Fling was today, and we had a local band come and play- they were great. Everything was free! There were also churros, a cake walk, hot dogs, ice cream, a water slide, henna people, caricature people, and face-painting people. Notable face paintings include an Avatar blueface, a dual snowflakes-and-fire twisting pattern, and a panda holding fire. Yes, a panda holding fire. Somehow a spontaneous dance competition erupted, as these things do, and all the typical people showed up (i.e., the ActingDanceand/orChorus people) and did their thing. Even our principal and our resident disciplinary Scary Lady started dancing. It was… awesome. I worship our current ASB.
I think I’ll poem about it… *wanders off*
Only two more weeks of school (both of which are 4-day weeks) until our gloarious class road trip. After our road trip we have 1 day of school, then we graduate, and then we’re off to high school. AHHHHHHH
HII!!! Guess what? I found the computers.
For those of you who don’t know I’m visiting a college this weekend. Staying in the dorms, visiting classes today, other stuff over the weekend. It’s fun.
So. I flew out here on Thrusday, and got in in the afternoon. Then after taking a tour and orientation and foodz and talk at us by the dean and president (who I know [!!]) and suchlike, we settled in and then went bowling. Dude. I’ve never been bowling in my life before. Needless to say, I was horrid at it. There was this one kid in our group who was ridiculously good. And plays piano and sings well (he played the Charlie Brown song. I think several of us kind of fell in love. It’s very sad) had on a Rubic’s cube t-shirt. Basically, he’s a cool geek. But he’s kind of quiet. Anyway, I digress.
So bowling, I sucked, but it was fun anyway.
Then home, talking, were going to watch Monty Python but couldn’t get subtitles or hear it over the din, so ended up just talking.
Then today was classes and getting lost.
Unfortunately some of the classes I REALLY WANTED to attend were either cancelled or not really good for visiting, like Intro. to Philosophy was basically a description of the assignment they were going to be doing for the next 2 weeks. And that was the same time as the Foil Fencing class, so double bummer. That was a hard call.
Um, and then Historical Thought and Research (or something along those lines) was nonexistant. *sobs* And Mathematical Applications (yes Robert, I VOLUNTARILY signed myself up for a math class, aren’t you proud?) was having an exam, so no go there. *siigh I went to an Austin class instead.
Uhm and then, uh, hanging out in the living room, listening to music, singing Beates songs with Jessica-from-Brazil (there are like a million Jessicas here). Then we went to Ultimate Frizbee, which we both sucked at, so we ended up taking a walk and talking for several hours. She’s awesome and so much fun. It’s interesting, most of the people I’ve been hanging out with here are older. Jess is 22, my roommate Jess is 18 (6 days older than me!), Chase has got to be at least 20. I dunno. Like, some of the others who are my age are fun too, it just seems like the ones I’m getting in serious conversations with or doing stuff with are older. Meh, it works.
Anyway, Jess and I were talking for a few hours and thought we had missed dinner, so came running back to our dorm in time to find everyone leaving, fortunately we got dinner and all, then went to see Robin Hood, and I basically fell in love with the production. Seriously, it was AWESOME. I could rave forever, but suffice it to say, it was really good.
I actually like this school more than I thought I would. I was afraid that since it’s a Christian Science college it would be like Sunday School 24/7, which is cool, but only to a point. But it’s pretty cool. I mean, CS is still obviously a huge part of the experience, but it’s not bashing you over the head at ever turn, which is great. And they’re pretty cool about stuff, Robin Hood was full of innuedos, which was completely epic.
So yeah, now I’m back at the house, on the computer, chatting with some friends, checking up on emails, etc. So sorry this post probably makes no sense and is riddled with typos, since I’m on a horrid keyboard.
And I should probably go to sleep or take a shower at least, since it’s 11 and I’ve been up since 7, but awake-ish way before (gods, my roommate is awesome but she’s a total morning person. Our internal clocks DO NOT MESH.) And today has felt like at least 2 days in one, so I’m kind of tired. And my stuff is just thrown on my bed. *siiiigh*
Okay, congrats if you read that whole thing, and MAJOR kudos if it made any sense whatsoever.
HELP.
I finally got GIMP! Yay!
But…. I can’t figure out how to do anything. -_-
Someone help me. Please.
I could probably figure this out if my brain wasn’t malfunctioning, actually. So sad… The other day I was saying something about ketchup and three seconds later was asking my mom if I had been saying ketchup or pizza, because I wasn’t sure. *headdesk* It was kind of funny, in a way, but also very scary.
Well, you draw with the paintbrush tool (See the box-y thing-y that says Toolbox?) And click the brush. The two colored squared change the color you draw with (The top one is the foreground color, the other’s the background, and that’s really just for storing another color). The pencil will draw too, but the line won’t be as smooth. There are lots of tutorials online.
Oh hai.
So, I was going to go into St. Louis for a baseball game today, but it was going to go from 1 to 6, so I bowed out. Instead I’m going to be hanging around campus, maybe go to a rugby game, loiter, watch movies, stuffs.
I don’t know why the computer had me signed into my email and still had my info on here, since I deleted all my history and passwords when I went to bed last night. *creepy music*
So, MB is or isn’t a quack site? I mean, according to your other site. Because WE all know that anything said on here is SACRED and RIGHT. Like, duh.
MOO HA HA HA! *evil cow laugh* I am the reason that the world will end in 2012!
……According to a silly theory that my friends and I concocted.
See, in 2012, I will turn fifteen.
When I turn fifteen, I will get my learner’s permit.
And then, I will crash my car into the core of the Earth and everything will explode.
*bows* And that is how I will blow up the world. =^-^=
Oh, and here’s a conversation with another friend.
Me: I’m the reason the world will end in 2012!
Friend: …huh?
Me: See, in 2012, I’ll be turning fifteen. When I turn fifteen, I get my learner’s permit, then-
Friend: Oh god.
Actually, I think it’s because I’ll graduate in 2012. Through the sheer force of school trying to suck me back in and deny me my freedom, the world will end.
Whee, I’m a rogue! Like a warrior with more personality (and moral deficiencies) XD *is happy*
On the other hand, since I spent the weekend trespassing and entering (minus the breaking part) and sort-of forging, this doesn’t sound to far-fetched.
Whee. I’m a healer. XD *whines* Can’t I be a Sorcerer? Or an Artisan? Or a Rogue? Or anything but a Healer?
Zinc: No. You’re a Healer. T_T
Me: All right, all right.
Anyway, it sounds pretty cool!
Sorcerers: Me, Rainbow, Jadestone, Nthanda, Adeia.
Healers: Armada (don’t worry, you’re rather cranky and bicker with ZVX a lot. You get cool scars/tatoos. They’re fun to draw.), SudoRandom, Fiddler (you’re blind but cool.), Aggie.
Warriors: AvalonGirl, ZVX, Serafina, TMFA, I-Man.
Industrialists: Purple Panda, Alice, POSOC. (There’s assuredly steampunk in the Ports, you two. You somewhat represent the British Empire, sort of…)
Artisans: THF, Princess Magnolia, Enceladus, RtH.
Rogues: Fireh, Ebeth, BookGirl, FirgidSymphony.
Nomads: RQ, Maths’ Lover.
Gypsies: Beavo, IBCF, MissSwann, Syllabub/Sequoia.
It’s cool. I draw it a lot. So now I have to go home. TT3TT I’ll see you all sometime… no idea when, but sometime… meanwhile, I’ll keep writing out my notes until I can type it. Prolly in October. XD I’ll be able to show Rainbow… hopefully. Sayonara, auf weidersehen, goodbye…
I just realized that, between Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Mike Massimino and the Alicia Keys song “New York”, the past 12 months were a great time to be from New York.
The sky here’s sort of weird today. There’s a layer of clouds covering the sky, too thick to be burned off, but thin enough to let as much light through as in a normal day. So we have a perfectly sunny day beneath a white sky.
Oh, and I learned how to replicate the Star Wars hologram effect in Photoshop pretty well.
1) “Deep Blue” Photo Filter turned up to 100%.
2) “Splayed Strokes” Filter with the strokes set to horizontal.
3) “Grain” Filter. (The one under “Noise” in the Filter menu)
4) Turn the picture’s opacity down to 60%.
OH COOL!
Research into what? I’ve got a friend doing linguistics research there! and I know a few students! And my father taught there for a few years! And I was just in NYC today! MoMA and the Met! WOO!
You have a friend doing research in linguistics? That’s so cool! *wants to go into computational linguistics some day* I’m doing research in logic and/or set theory at a university next year..
My day it has been awesome. So, I’m basically in love with life at the moment. I had cool people to hang out with all day, and stuff to do.
I was going to go to a baseball game, but opted out, so we kind of chilled for awhile, went to a rugby game for a little bit where I made us all clover jewlrey (necklaces and crowns, I’m still wearing mine and Colin wore his all day, he’s fun). Then we went to see Robin Hood, second time for me, first time for some of the others. I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THAT PRODUCTION. Really. Like, the set, the costumes, the dialogue, the story, the hottie actors, EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. Okay. I’ll stop raving (for now).
Then we went to “[abbreviated name of school]stock” which was kind of a music/artsy stuff/other stuff kind of event. I’m really glad this school has some crazy hippies. I migh be able to fit in if I decide to come here, and that makes me happy. So, listened to music, goofed around, got foodz, listened to more music, watched Alice in Wonderland, went to the lookout and used the scenery telescope (you know, those tourist-trap kinds?) to look at the stars, goofed off, went to the pub for milkshakes and smoothies and came back here to the dorms.
So the kid I mentioned earlier who was a geek and good at bowling? Yeah, I predicted we’d be friends, and we’ve been hanging out all day. xD He’s into math and all, but the fun stuff, so we’re supposed to mark on the board where we’ll be so they can find us if they need, and he’s making equasions and venn diagrams showing where he went, it’s hilarious. I’ve been opting more for a literary approach, such as “Fern ‘is skipping lightly to the pub in merrie company'” but whatever. It’s awesome.
And we skipped all the way from the dining hall to the dorm. Everyone else wussed out, but we kept going, it was so much fun even though I was totally winded when we got here. xD
It was a good day. I am crazy. It’s so odd how many personalities I seem to have. Not sure it’s a good thing, exacltly, but meh. Like here, amoung these people I’m louder, more spontanious and crazy. Like, I’m the one doing crazy accents and starting to dance as we’re walking down the street. It’s kind of funny, actually.
Anyway. I should probably take a bath. And go to bed or something. Or I could take a bath and go hang out in the living room some more. But I dunno.
Home tomorrow, I can’t believe it. I’m going to miss these people. Because they’re FUN.
sounds awesome! is this a college visit? i don’t remember my college visits being this fun. you seem to attract awesomeness. that is probs why we are friends (my awesome…it yearns for you…)
if you visit any schools in ohio, let me know! particularly really large (say, the second-largest in the country?) schools that contain the best damn band in the land and a shiny new union that was just the scene of a flash mob dancing to don’t stop believing and a new library that looks like a spaceship and a really creepy mascot and i could keep going with the hints but you get the idea.
iPods. Heh… My beloved iPod touch first generation got laughed at because it doesn’t have speakers. Or people look all over the iPod and then look at me incredulously and ask where the volume control is. *headdesk* But I love my little first generation almost completely obsolete iPod.
I’m trying some new formatting options. That one was supposed to put the most recent 50 comments on the first page, to help all the poor iPhoners out there. Maybe it doesn’t work well with nested threads. I’ll try it again…
I’m going to go read the children’s book I made in Latin class to a fourth grade class at the elementary school I used to go to! (I love that school, I really do. The architecture’s very old-timey and dark enough to be mysterious, but not scary.)
I know no one… Not even anyone who actually reads Muse in my area!!! Hopefully I might meet someone this summer… I am going to a 3-week Latin course at F&M through John Hopkins’ CTY. I suspect there will be many more of the type who might read Muse…. Any one else on the blog who is participating in such things?
I am friends with Marfwarrior, but the interesting thing is that we just started being actual friends who talk about important stuff (read: Harry Potter, theatre, and MB) this year. But we’ve known each other for six years.
I think Alan hijacked my webcam…..Well, not really, but….
After offering to make Alan my surrogate sister and call him Nala…He commented that he guessed he’d have to get some frilly clothes, I pointed out not all girls wear frilly clothes…..
A: I suppose so. Like you.
Me: I occasionally wear frilly clothes.
A: Like that blue plaid tank.
me: lol, the one I”m wearing right now? Creepy. You hijack my webcam?
A: Really, you are?
Me: Yes.
A: No, I guess I’m just good at guessing. I like it [the shirt, not the guessing.~Luna]
Me: Thanks.
A: It complements your hair.
Me: It does?
Anyway, yeah. I think he hijacked my webcam….Should I be concerned?
So so so pointless. Tomorrow I have my hardest 2 final exams. And today I try to study. But then my father has to come and kill the mood. And now my mother tells me that I have to take the SAT Subject Math 1 in 2 weeks. After school. On the day where I’m doing stuff already. And I’ll have to study for that too. And now I’m going to fail the 2 finals. Cake.
Fiddler- Hey y’all! I was informed that I was coming to the HAWK residence on the way home from the airport, so here I be. He makers awesome choklit chip cookies, just putting that out there.
W00t!!! I’m glad we’re on the way home from the airport, it’s been forever since we’ve kokonvened!!
I just discovered what Toxoplasmosis was, and my brain was blown. I mean blown out of the stratosphere. Jeesh. A parasite that can affect your literal personality, that currently inhabits up to one third of the world population? That’s just scary.
Isn’t it supposed to make females more open hearted, or some such? I forget what it was supposed to do to males. We mentioned if briefly in human/companion animal psych fall semester, when discussing zoonotic diseases.
That reminds me….. I forgot to do the kitty litter…. Isn’t that how it is spread? That is also why they tell pregnant woman to stay away from cats. I think… There is this one radio show called Radiolab that I love done through WNYC & NPR…. They did an episode on parasites… Anyone who reads muse should love radiolab…. Just go to radiolab.org (hopefully that doesn’t go all linky…. ) or search RadioLab on iTunes… check out some their episodes… I swear you’ll love it!
I LOVE RADIOLAB. I just finished listening to a RadioLab actually (Morality). I’ve listened to probably two-thirds of the shows on their website. Maybe nearly all, but I can’t keep track of what I’ve heard and what I haven’t sometimes. But yes, it’s amazing…Yay, RadioLab love.
Adeia, pregnant women can be around cats, they merely aren’t supposed to do the cat litter. Not to mention, according to what we were told when discussing zoonotic diseases in pych last fall, an infected cat only sheds the parasite in its feces for 2 days after initial infection.
So, really, the odds of their currently being any residing in your cat’s cat litter ar epretty slim….
i am never around cat litter, as a general rule. apparently i’m very open though :-/ (i don’t know, i see myself as normal amounts of open but that was joe’s explanation as to why everyone tells me things and then goes “why am i telling you that? that is something i really just tell people i’ve known for years, and we definitely just met”) ((that seriously happens so often it is like wow people, either i have superhuman powers of compelling people to talk or people are just really not as good at hiding things as they think)) (((i want superhuman powers but i feel like it is probably the latter)))
When I first learned about Toxoplasma, there were two thoughts:
– The toxoplasma went itno the brain and made you like that, or
– Havign that sort of personality made you more of a cat-person, and hence the toxoplasma got into you
Big difference between the two, it was interesting to think about. Is there proof that the parasite does effect personality now?
Well, it affects mice, doesn’t it? Makes them unafraid of cats, or attracted to cat urine, or something, much to their detriment. Not the same as human personality, but certainly suggestive.
True! The explanation I read said that it made them seek out cat urine rather than be alarmed/flee because of it. Hadn’t thought of it like that…
(the book I know about it from is rather old though, so I don’t know if the information in it is all up to date–for those wondering, it’s Peeps, but Scott Westerfeild, and it was quite good if I recall. Lots of interesting tidbits about parasites).
I came back from my senior trip today, which is why I haven’t been on the blog. It was loads of fun, though it totally exhausted me. Bonfires, carriage rides, gigantic bugs, 5 hour car rides, FUDGE…We had it all.
And we watched High School Musical 3 (first HSM movie I’ve ever seen), which was surprisingly fun.Probably bc we made fun of everyone, and altered the songs to make it more appropriate to our life ……..”Just give me my diplooomaaaaaaa…!” Just goes to show that even a show like that is fun if you have someone to MST it with.
61.1~ Yeah. I think the college is a tad desperate, I mean, they’re catering to a relatively small community anyways, and then added with economic struggles and all, they kind of bent over backwards for us. They have a weekend visiting program where they fly you to the school, feed and lodge you for 4 days over the weekend, so you get Thursday night, Friday is classes, Sat. is campus exploration and special events and suchlike, and Sunday is church/sunday school and then they take you back to the airport. It was pretty awesome.
I don’t just attract awesome, I exude it as well. Our awesome longs mutually for each other to be complete and achieve epicness. Yeah, I’ll keep that all in mind during my college search, since the two I can so far really imagine
Okay, so I absolutely love geeks. They’re the best people in the universe. Well, some of the best at least. I don’t really consider myself smart enough to be a bona fide geek, but I find myself drawn to them and hanging out with them is the best. ♥
ARG I MISS LIVING WITH ALL THE FRIENDS I MET THIS WEEKEND. I WANT TO GO SKIPPING WITH COLIN AND HANG OUT WITH THE MANY JESSICAS AND NON-JESSICAS.
Ehhh… -pathetic whining-
I have frittered away all my homework time and stuff and now I feel like I’m living in chaos. I DON’T HAVE TIME. I hate school. I think we should end several weeks earlier than we do, because right now we are SO CLOSE and yet so very, very far away and my homework isn’t really getting in on time and my grades are dropping…dropping…dropping and I can’t wake up to the alarm clock properly and I hate getting dressed in the morning and I have this whole senioritis/last weeks of school thing where every day is a chore, just another day to mark off on the calendar, but then at the same time I’m struggling to pull all my grades up safely and I have finals coming up AND I’m generally overscheduled what with work and Sea Scouts and concerts and my mother is trying to instigate a new system which involves me making dinner for my spoiled childish preteen sister (who won’t eat ANYTHING with onions and seems to have reverted to age four) whenever mother’s not around and I’m trying to organize my senior project and the school keeps approaching me with great honors which I can’t very well turn down (junior marshal for graduation, theater representative for the incoming freshmen tour)–oh, and did I mention my Shakespeare class is a whole unit behind and I still need to do a Much Ado About Nothing project and I FAIL at art– and all I want to do is watch Doctor Who and finish reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell!
There, I have ranted satisfactorily and should probably go do my science homework.
I am with you… except that I am in 8th grade… And various other insignificant details…. I just want school to end!!!! And I usually like school! though science in particular has been slowly desolving that feeling…. Along with English….. Rawr. When will this end?!
That must be quite stressful. Don’t worry about your clothing, though, it always seems very interesting. Unless you were to wear clothing with brand names all over it people won’t judge you negatively, and if they do, they’re probably focusing critiques on others so that they can forget about their own problems.
Alice, have you considered attending the community college for next year? It may be too late now, but the classes are very interesting, the students are as they should, you have a much freer schedule, and no more worksheets. WORKSHEETS AUGH AUUUUUUUURRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH
But now I finally have enough time to lay around the house all the time, watching television, going for walks, reading books (Nueromancer was quite good, the British H2G2 was excellent) if a bit lonesome.
Haha, I’m not too worried about my clothes…it’s just more chaos in my life because my room is determined to NEVER BE CLEAN and consequently it’s hard whatever I feel like wearing.
I did consider the community college…but last year they told me I still have to take classes in the high school if I can so I kind of gave up on it, and it IS too late now, I know ’cause I got the little notice saying it was the last day to fill out the paperwork that they never gave me. Anyway, I’d miss the theater.
Well. today was good. Except for the fact that it’s Renconciliation Week, and whatever my views on it were before history last year, after that I don’t want to hear about Sorry Day or anything of the sort again. Then we had French first period, which was awesome.
My Media teacher was involved in an “incident” with some Year 7s, so she was twenty minutes late to class and for most of that time we waited in the corridor for a teacher to let us into the classroom. We Year 9s stood around in pairs and threes while a Year 10 told all her friends about some party she went to and her crazy weekend… Interesting.
And double English? Last year, my teacher was in many an SSSS and hated me. This year’s teacher is annoying and picks on everyone, and she was really mad because literally half the class couldn’t hand in their oral scripts (there’s always a couple who leave the printing till the last minute, but I’ve never seen so many people claim they didn’t know when something was due). So we got lectured, the orals were postponed, and we did breathing excercises and took notes on how to prepare. (My usual method of preparation is to read it through once to time myself, write the speech word for word on my palm cards, and forget about it until the due date. Not what my teacher had in mind.)
Halfway into lunch, I went down to the oval to see M. She wasn’t there, so I went back to my group and was stopped by V and D, who have taken being canines of the female persuasion to a whole new level. When I got back to my friends, J went over to them and they wanted to see me again. Eventually I joined them. I’d forgotten just how awesome J’s comebacks are. Most of the conversation wasn’t MB-appropriate so I won’t post it here, though.
We went to a computer lab to revise for the RE test, so I typed up a few sentences of notes and played Red Remover. It is beyond me why history teachers like me even though I hate their subject (Yes, Ms M teachers history as well. *shudder*)
And my day wouldn’t be complete without seeing some guy on the bus sit in his girlfriend’s lap and hug her passionately. Right next to me. *sigh* At least they didn’t kiss.
So, uh, philosophy student here. I’m wondering, what are your personal philosophies? Your views on traditional philosophical problems, favorite philosophers?
Oh, and if this is random enough, I’ve been going for many, many walks. I walk around every day for too many miles. I like the forest; it’s a calm place, good for writing and talking, unless it’s raining heavily.
French final. I have a (fake) $100 bill to tape on the back of the test. The proctor walks over and examines it, and tells me to put it in my backpack. So, I didn’t get to do it. Then I talk to someone else and tell him the story. He’s the proctor’s son. he knew about my (evil) plan, but then he said I shouldn’t have tried to do it when his dad was proctoring. Not that he cared, but he said that if I ever got into AP Chemistry (what the proctor teaches), I would have to put away the hydrochloric acid, and all the gloves would mysteriously disappear. I probably won’t take AP Chem anyway. I’ll just take the AP after Honors Chem.
Sudo- is this your first time listening to RadioLab? Which shows have you listened to? Anyway all MBers should listen to RadioLab…. On the subject of cats, I am pretty allergic to cats, as is my mom, yet we have a cat, and it sleeps on my bed…. Either that or on me….
I’ve got a secret mission to accomplish, so I won’t have internet access for a while. Not to fear, though, when f+h is done with her mission, she will be back.
Maybe a month or so? Maybe more, maybe less, but if I’m not back within a month then I’ve died a tragic death trying to complete my extremely important mission.
Of course, I’ll always come back to life eventually.
I’ll miss you guys!
In other words, f+h is very behind on her schoolwork and needs to spend all her waking hours working on math, history, and science. I’ve tried to convince the parents that you guys can help me if I get stuck, but they didn’t go for it. DX
Oh yeah it’s today eeehhhhh I really don’t feel like dragging a towel to drama and having to explain to everyone and having everyone think I’m really weird. More than they already do. I mean, that’s the one source of non-geeky friends that I actually like, so I’d rather not get all the blank stares.
I’ll stick a washcloth in my purse though, if I can find my purse.
I’ve overheard mother nature’s whispers of rain, but my towel tells me not to worry. It also said something about schizophrenia, but the voices in my head told me that towels, although seemingly wise, are just seemingly so.
Has anyone gone through their writing portfolio in school? I got to go through mine and found my writing from kindergarten….. What did it contained? “I see a horse.” and a crudely drawn pixture of a horse. I am proud to say that eveything was spelled right and capitalized properly. And it was a decent attempt at a horse, chesnut, with a white blaze looking at you…. There was also evidence that I had tried the method of drawing circles to make the horse, which in my view is pretty good attempt for a kindergartner.. I wish I could travel back in time and give then me a high-five….
it was SO AWESOME! he is a funny, funny man. and there was some great music as well. his band is awesome. the whole thing was just absolutely fantastic. and i defs got his autograph (well, it’s sort of a completely illegible squiggle, but hey)
and then i went to sloopy’s and had a giant pancake and a mini sundae. sleeping might be difficult :-/
In French today, we read a bit in our textbook about the main “character” going on a forum for young people in her region and talking about the departements they live in. So half the class recoiled in horror. GASP! SHE’S TALKING TO PEOPLE ONLINE SHE DOESN’T KNOW! THEY COULD BE 70-YEAR OLD STALKERS!
Guess what I started doing about an hour after I got home.
Also, I was talking to a girl at school who switched from doing French to Japanese and is in a class with another girl who changed languages with the people who’ve done it for the past two years(must be confusing for the teacher) and did Italian when she was younger, and she thinks Japanese is easier. I do know French is hard– Mr R is an easy marker and I’m better at it than a lot of my class, but if you’d heard my oral the other week… *shudders*
Mr R: Tu t’appelles comment?
Me: ….?
Mr R: Tu t’appelles comment?
Me: Um… what…
Mr R: *shows me piece of paper with my name on it*
Me: Oh.*blushes* Je m’appelle Maths Lover.
After the oral, he said he thought I’d forgotten my name. That and all my grammar screw-ups were partly nervousness, but I was very surprised I got a B.
Me: J’ai regarde Doctor Who.
Mr R: Tu aimes Doctor Who?
Me: *eyes bulge Mr Bean-style* Oui.
Mr R: (Things I don’t understand except for “BBC”.)
Me: …Oui.
Mr R: (More stuff i don’t understand.)
Me: Oui?
And so on.
Why do I like that class so much, exactly?
Lao Shi: Ni hao ma? (how are you?)
Me: Wo hao. (I’m fine)
Lao Shi: Ni xi huan shen me ai hao? (what are your hobbies?)
Me: Um, well, I like Hitchiker’s guide to the galaxy…
Lao Shi: Zhong wen! Zhong wen! (In mandarin! Mandarin!)
Me: Oh, um… Wo xi huan Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?
Lao Shi: HG2G shen me?! (what’s that?!)
Me: HG2G shi yi ge shu he dian ying… (it’s a book/movie)
Lao Shi: Ai Hao! Ai hao! (hobbies! hobbies!
Me: Er…
86- I haven’t seen my writing profile, but I do have journals going back to when I was six. I had the most atrocious spelling and a lot of the time, I wrote really cryptic things I would only understand when I was writing them, so I read them now and have no idea what I meant.
Um….. so, yeah, sorta really belated news update for me? I got into Tempest, and I’m really excited, but I don’t know what part I’m going to be in yet, so I hope I’m not going to end up as a sprite or something… XD The director’s scheduling is really disorganized. But anyway. Yeah…. I’m having these periods of being happy, then really depressed, then happy, then really depressed…. I feel odd.
*returns from absence* I’m surfing the web with AM, and we just entered “pwt pwns” in Translation party. The result was “the p – tunnel pwns”. In between it translated into something like “the wind tunnel pwns P”. Our current theory is that it separated the “p” and “wt” and the “wt” translated into “wind tunnel”.
Do do do do di doodley doo…I can’t think of anything to say.
Maybe I could sing the song that gets on everybody’s nerves, everybody’s nerves, everybody’s nerves.
Or I could wait a bit longer and then do my homework…No wait, that was my plan already.
Ugh, homework. Don’t remind me. Also have to dig up a copy of my movie and paperwork for History Day because Ms. Sears wants to show it to the superintendent. ARGH. Go away homework.
I convinced my mother to take me out to get a gourami for the fish tank. I bought a flame dwarf gourami, a bamboo shrimp and a long, thin cat that looks like a pipe fish. (It has a long name, which I can’t remember.)
It’s so amazing to watch how the new fish react to the old fish; the gouramis feel each other out with their feelers and the new gourami has been swimming around with his feelers out to scope out the tank.
.
Only I could spend fifteen minutes watching how my fish behave…
And now, an update on my final exams.
On Monday, I had English in the morning. It consisted of 2 essays. The first had a prompt of how love can be viewed as comedy or tragedy. The texts were Midsummer Night and Romeo & Juliet. It was good, I had 2.5 pages I think. My conclusion exampled Our Town, complete with memorized quote. The second essay had a prompt of how someone’s past contributes to the text as a whole. The texts were Great Expectations, Ellen Foster, and Kite Runner. The last part with GE and the conclusion was rushed, and I finished right at the 3-hour mark. Hoping for As or A-s.
Science was in the afternoon. I thought it would be hard like all the other tests, but it turned out to be simply moderate. I only used 1.5 hours out of the 3.
Today I had History in the morning, and I ‘smashed’ the test on WWII/WWI/Genocide. Awesome.
This afternoon I had Algebra II, which I think I did well on.
And tomorrow I have French II, which I should study for right now.
Cas suffet! D’accord! Les interros! Tres vit!
3 hour exams? Aren’t we about about the same age? Are you in middle or high school? *has never had to do a test longer than 2 hours**and has yet to discover the joys of doing finals all in the same week*
I am 14, and I am in ending my freshman year of high school on Friday. Each final exam has a required time of 2 hours, with extra time of 1 hour. So from 8:00 to 11:00 is my French II exam block, but I can leave anytime after 10:00.
Luna just remembered that Towel Day reminds her of Torchwood (doesn’t everything?). In particular, a fanfic she once happened across in which Jack was confused and thought that Towel Day meant you were supposed to only wear a towel that day.
Guys, i was GEEKED OUT. I had my towel (of course) and i printed out a picture of a lilac for terry pratchett (didn’t know where to find a real one), and i was wearing my time crash shirt (the delorean crashing into the TARDIS) and my d20 necklace. also my only classes today were sci-fi/fantasy and band, AND we had the first meeting of the intergalactic science fiction club which was spiffy. if anyone is considering OSU for a college, keep in mind that we’re so awesome we have an intergalactic club. which you should join. that is probably too much info, but i mean there are lots of people at OSU? and you -might- not know which of the fifteen or so people around is me? (although probably, since i just kind of dragged all my friends into it there was a grand total of one guy there that i didn’t know).
anyway yes. today has been pretty awesome. but now i have to do LOTS of homework. so sadface
when i get back from class, i am taking a nap. hold me to that, museblog. i’m missing so much sleep, it’s getting legitimately unhealthy. eyes unfocusing, stumbling around, people probably think i’m drunk. no more, i say, no more! ebeth is going to sleep!
102- lol We need to find that person and bring them here…
Meh. Though I am now much wiser in the ways of Stargate, my spanish is …insufficient too pass the test tomorrow. Also, my lower legs are killing me-my capoeira teacher is determined to teach me various takedowns with mixed success. I just wish that he wouldn’t feel the need to demonstrate all of them.
I guess I’ll just have to do a tesoura*- the one I can actually pull off- on the spanish teacher, though I fear this might provoke a mild dislike of me. XD
*Let’s just say the opponent lands on en’s butt and you have your knee on en’s belly.
*cracks up* DO TESOURO ON YOUR SPANISH TEACHER! I actually really like takedowns, they’re fun…. as long as one doesn’t break one’s leg because one’s doing them with an inflexible, 200-pound 50-year-old. That is not fun. o_o
I heart takedowns, except the one where you grab the opponent’s hip with one hand and hit the back of their leg with your foot- bana? banana? something like that- being the only person there with the teacher I had the honor of demonstration and I stiffened my knee *limps away*
Um….. banana? I’m not sure I know that one…. or, rather, I probably know it under a different name. Or Joe just never told us its name…. XD (He doesn’t tell us the name of most of the takedowns, actually, now that I think about it. Odd.) Anyway, yeah. Working on falling is usually a good idea before working on takedowns….
Speaking of falling… hehe. Batizado and workshops are next week. *skips off whistling “I’m gonna die… I’m gonna die…”*
It was 90 degrees outside today. Now imagine being outside in that weather on a hot *black* track.
No, not fun at all.
I just hope it isn’t that hot for the Memorial Day parade…
Marching band uniforms + 90-degree weather = melted Beedle, and perhaps her flute as well…
Poor Beedle.. what state do you live in?
Right now my computer tells me it’s 88 degrees. Fortunately the gym teachers have decreed we’re NOT running a mile on Thursday like usual.
New York… I mean, it’s supposed to be mild when you live near the water, not hot.
The forecast for Monday is 80 and sunny.
I’m thinking of “contracting a grave illness”…
I’ll probably just put an icepack around my neck. :/
It was 90-ish degrees on Tuesday, and 85-ish degrees yesterday. Today it’s supposed to cool off. But I don’t have much hope.
Black band long pants + the stupid red shirts + anything above 70 degrees = Nymmie, Sudo, Maggie, and I are going to die.
(That does not mean I’m not going to still try to get out of going Nymmie!! You’ll have to drag my dead body in one of those bag things mountain climbers use when someone gets that disease that was in that book that I can’t remember!!)
My goal for the summer after I graduate from high school is to take a 16-day tour of rural Japan that I found online. It’s about 3300 dollars, plus airfare, some meals, and intracity travel. And souvenirs. *drools* It looks so unbelievably amazing. However, I imagine that some degree of knowledge of the Japanese language would be beneficial, so I’m teaching myself via various free internet methods. The language itself shouldn’t be too hard, nor should the hiragana. But the kanji–how to start? The myriad levels of respect as well. XP
Oh well, it’s for a good cause.
Watashi wa otoko desu. Anata wa sega hikui desu. Kare wa yasete imasu. Kono onnanohito wa futtote imasu. Kanojo wa toshi wo totte imasu…
You’ll also probably want to know Katakana. (That should be much easier, though, because most Katakana words sound like they do in English, and Katakana is based on Hiragana.)
You’re going to Japan? LUCKY.
The last time I went to Japan, I was….. uhh.. well.. my cousin was… uhh… a baby.. and now he’s in first grade… and it was over four years ago because we haven’t been there since we moved.. and… uhh… anyway.
Wow. I just realized I haven’t seen my aunt, cousin, or grandfather (Ojii-san)) in three years (I think? Maybe only two? No, I’m pretty sure it’s three….) and haven’t seen my grandmother (Oba-san) or my uncle in… over four years. O_o
I think we were going to go to Japan this summer, but my mom thinks there’s going to be a major earthquake there sometime soon because of all the other earthquakes this year, so we’re not going.
I think.
(I finished today’s schoolwork (three week’s worth of math..) early and submitted it all, so now I can use my mom’s laptop to do internet stuffs. (My iPod has been taken away. DX And my laptop has parental controls, aka the only things I can access on the internet are school-related things…) But anyway, yeah… a brief visit. Hi.)
I want to go to Japan. I don’t know if I’ll be able to earn enough money or get my parents’ permission to go to a foreign country for over two weeks by myself.
piggy — i actually learned katakana first, then hiragana and kanji but apparently that is a really weird order to go in. there is more katakana use than you would expect, but if you want to go the more rural route you probably won’t see as much. i would suggest the website smart.fm, for kanji especially, i used it while i was reviewing for my ap japanese test….it is mostly harmless GAPAs. i don’t know if it will be super helpful but it’s something.
kanji is definitely the most difficult aspect for me too :/ if you can find some simple books or manga online in japanese, they often have furigana alongside the kanji, which is basically the reading for each since younger kids who are reading said books are still learning. basically the more you see it the more familiar it will be.
That does sound like a very weird order. Maybe I’ll learn the hiragana first and then the katakana, in case the places I (might) visit have furigana. The kanji… gah. There’s just so dang many. Which to learn?
if you type kyoiku kanji into wikipedia, you should find lists of kanji expected of japanese students by grade level. i think that’s somewhat how my textbook was structured ( i didn’t know there was a name for it though lol). numbers and things come first then basic concepts like water, eat, see, book etc. that’s one way to go
So, Muffy came over for dinner tonight because she needed to get out of the house. Her grandad was being awful, her mom was being a dragon lady and she was crying so hard I could barely hear what she was saying on the phone. Thankfully her mom let her come and my parents were totally fine with me pretty much saying “Muffy’s coming over, right now, I’m going to pick her up.”
So we rode with the top down and visited and goofed off and ate and then drove slowly home and enjoyed the sunset and the cool evening air.
I really have to get in gear about getting schoolwork done. I’ve just been not getting anything done when I’m home. And I leave in a few weeks gah.
I’m so unready. >.<
Anyone have recommendations for a superstrong computer case for a 13" macbook pro? Because I'd like to not worry about killing my computer on the ship, and I'd like to have my computer with me. And the ship isn't a hugely computer-friendly environment. But 3 months sans computer except for crappy marina ones is like AHH NO! Why yes, I am addicted, why do you ask?
So yeah. If anyone knows of something that'll work, I beg of you, tell me!
I learned katakana first. Katakana is used for writing words of foreign origin phonetically. If you can read the katakana, you can sound out the word and a high percentage are English.
Ha mu ba ga a = hamburger
ta ku shi = taxi
pa so co n = perso(nal)com(puter)
katakana or hiragana will help with your pronunciation because you will learn the fundamental sounds of the Japanese language. Even if someone is speaking English to you, if you don’t understand the basic sound units it is difficult to understand English with a Japanese accent. I actually found that people understood me better if I spoke English with a Japanese accent.
if you get a simple travel guide dictionary, you can also learn basic polite phrases. Hello. Thank you. Where’s the bathroom?
*yawn* I just woke up from sleeping for two hours straight after being awoken to go to the school I ended up staying home from. Yes, I’m home sick; my throat’s all swollen and I keep sneezing, although that may just be allergies. *shrug* Well anyway…
NO WAIT! Does anyone know of any songs that relate to the book A Wrinkle in Time? It’s for a school project, and I need to think of ten. Mind you, I haven’t finished the book yet but I’ll probably have done so by the end of today…Why did I pick this book? *headdesk*
My brothers have not given me the laptop all week, so I’m sorry if I haven’t posted much. Once my laptop comes back from being repaired, I’ll be able to post more.
100- An intergalactic club? What do you do at meetings?
104- Listening to you guys talk about here really makes me want to learn Capoeira.
106- I know. I’m really proud of everything he* did, he was a very productive orbiter, and now that Atlantis is grounded, I don’t have to worry about it having an accident, but it’s still sad.
Think of all of those books and movies and TV shows from when we were kids that had the shuttle and thought that would never date them. Now, they’re all going to be dated.
I can’t believe there’s only two missions left.
* I think of Atlantis, Endeavour and Enterprise as guys (Challenger was, too), and Discovery and Pathfinder (And Columbia, before she was destroyed) as girls.
I finally used up most of my Barnes and Noble gift card in support of NaNo’s thingy where twenty percent of my proceeds goes to them. I figured it was as good a motivation as any.
I good a book on writing by Gail Carson Levine. I really like her books, and I liked the excerpt they provided us with, so I decided to get it.
Took me a while.
Anyway, off to read more Artemis Fowl. We walked to the library today, and I came home with several different books. I imagine most of them are quite good.
This really belongs on the Books & Reading thread, doesn’t it. I didn’t really mean it to be about books… It just happened.
On another note, today was my last day of school. Not that I’ve been doing heavy school this week anyway…
115.2.1~ Not like you’ve been known to do other things, like take over the random thread image and all. But you had encouragement, so I guess we can’t blame that entirely on you, though as the responsible adult and GAPA you might have handled the pressure better, but……
Hacking Robert’s account sounds like a GREAT idea!
I am shocked, shocked by these impertinent yet completely deserved assaults upon my character. I do have a reputation to uphold here. There can only be one honorable reply to such an outrage:
For some reason I decided to drop by. Yesterday I clicked on a random thread and posted there, but here I’m saying hello!
So, here’s what’s been going on with my life, if you care:
– SciOly Nats! I got 13th and 29th in my respective events.
– XKCD has lost its appeal to me. (I saw the raging debate up there briefly.) I just don’t find it particularly funny anymore.
– I fell in love with Hark! A Vagrant!.
– AP testing! I took the Calc BC and APUSH tests.
That’s it, really. I don’t think anyone will care (but I do want to know if anyone went to nats).
random thread.
like random text?
like this?
The daylight rushs toward Muse Fans. Large Pie expects Muse Fans after the stem. Whatever page moans on top of the conducted hypocrite. Muse Fans zooms around Large Pie. The unworkable physicist exercises into Large Pie. Muse Fans untidies an algorithm.
When will muse burn banana nut cream pie with cherries an ice-cream? Muse compresses banana nut cream pie with cherries an ice-cream. Muse portions banana nut cream pie with cherries an ice-cream. Muse despairs next to the herd.
Not that kind of random, thomas. As cromwell said, random as in no set topic. We can talk about whatever we like here, but (as you can see from the previous 125 posts, plus comments) posts typically make sense.
muselover (regarding OKCD comics, because I refuse to use the nested comments and I’m too lazy to get a post number)~ Wait until you’re maybe 16, you should be able to handle it by then. You’re what now, 12? 13 maybe? It’s cool to listen to your parents and be sheltered from a lot of the yuck out there for now, but by the age of 16 or so (if not earlier) you should be able to deal with anything you can find in an XKCD comic.
And there’s a difference between dealing with something and going out and doing it or approving of it even. I’m not saying you have to be exposed to any and everything or try it out if you’re not comfortable, but I do think you should be aware. Floating around in blissful ignorance is fine until you have to start dealing with stuff, and by that point you should at least be able to know how to deal with stuff that you don’t agree with. Otherwise it’s hard to stick to things, trust me on this one.
Now, I don’t think you’re ignorant, quite the contrary, you’re a bright kid, but I do think you seem to think that age makes a huge difference in what you should be exposed to or how much you should know. I agree to an extent, but it should be a gradual learning curve, not la de da happy fluffy bunnies (though you should know the truth behind them by now ) and then all of a sudden OMG DRUGS SEX VIOLENCE WHAT NOW?!?!
If you’re not comfortable with that stuff yet, don’t sweat it, but don’t be all “well I don’t have to worry about that until I’m 27” because then when you get there it’ll be a huge scary issue, and huge scary issues aren’t fun.
*hug* That said, I’m sure you’ll do just fine. I mean hey, I’m one of those sheltered kids, and look how awesome I am, right? ^.^ [The last sentence was sarcasm.]
Whoa, long post. I’m probably overreacting. *shuts up*
Don’t worry, I have heeded them before, and I will continue to do so. And trust me, I do have a gradual learning curve. Yesterday I was only allowed to watch 9 PG-13 rated movies, and suddenly my dad goes “Oh yeah, you can watch Indiana Jones/POTC/Iron Man/O Brother, Where Art Thou.” Actually, pretty much every PG-13 movie I’ve watched so far, I thought, “Is that it? I was expecting OMG SEX DRUGS VIOLENCE!”
Yup, modified my name’s “tag” again. “Welcome home!” seemed too ordinary, and this way it evokes the IMAX title “Hail, Columbia!”
So I found out today that my stickdrive is actually really small and I should get a new one that can hold more information. It has enough for everything I need, which usually are just Word documents, but not for big Publisher files or the like.
It’s a reasonable conjecture. As it turns out, though, Pie Town has its own article in Wikipedia, which say that it’s named after a dried-apple-pie business that flourished there during the 1920s. There’s also a photograph of the town cafe, which has a picture of Kokopelli painted on its side.
“ How do I write “xkcd”? There’s nothing in Strunk and White about this.
For those of us pedantic enough to want a rule, here it is: The preferred form is “xkcd”, all lower-case. In formal contexts where a lowercase word shouldn’t start a sentence, “XKCD” is an okay alternative. “Xkcd” is frowned upon.”
130~ Ah, okay. I shall remember that in the future. And I made the typo “okcd” as well, despite O and X being on opposite sides of the keyboard. Oh fingers, why dost thou delight in vexing me?
For myself, I don’t follow it that much, but I read them whenever I remember and I think enough of them are funny to be worthwhile. I don’t really notice much swearing, and even were I to notice, I really don’t care. My ears aren’t that tender, and I’m not as good at biting my tongue as I used to be, either. Heh oh well.
The “adult” references I don’t care about either, I fund them amusing. Again, my ears (or eyes, I suppose I should say) aren’t that delicate.
I find it kind of amusing that there’s a debate happening over a webcomic and a site dedicated to shredding that webcomic.
I just gave xkcdsucks a cursory glance, and whether you like the comic or not, dude, get a life. Seriously, there’s so much more to worry about than be a clusterf- about the grammar in a webcomic. That just seems a little obsessive to me.
I sat in the upperclassman cafeteria today (such a rebel…) with my friends and my brother’s friend. (My brother has major qualms about me hanging out with my friends, but whatever.) We always get into the best conversations with him, for example: Arm muscles, what my friend does with her boyfriend in the hallway, viral videos, what Spaniards think of me, and a lot of dirty jokes. I just had a ton of fun today.
A certain secret event is occurring tomorrow which may allow Agrrrfishi and I to have a brief Kokonvention of sorts. But perhaps not; there’ll be large crowds there and it’s up to the Fates to decree whether our paths shall cross.
we wandered around looking at stuffs to buy (i denied myself cash moneys for the first day so i didn’t spend a ridiculous amount. i’ll go back tomorrow with money) and then we went to the RHPS pre-show, but we’re going next week anyway so we didn’t stay for the whole movie. then we went to flirting workshop (for the LULZ…and believe me, it was lulzy) and then DOCTOR WHO PANEL oh my god i love that show so much. it’s not even just the fact that the show itself is brilliant, it’s the -fans- as well. they’re all so nice and interesting and intelligent! it’s like if you took trekkies and stripped away everything obnoxious and elitist. there was this girl who must have been about 6 who raised her hand and made a comment about hte doctor’s daughter and at first it was like “aww, it’s an adorable little kid who watches doctor who” and then you thought about what she was saying and it was like “daaamn, it’s an adorable little kid who really -thinks- about doctor who!”
i basically just love everyone ever right now
oh and to continue the secret geek love thing, there was a dude at the bus stop with an atari shirt reading night watch (my fav terry pratchett book) who complimented my firefly shirt.
it’s not even that i want to sex these people up or anything, it just makes me ridiculously happy that they exist in the world
127.1~ Well, I actually phrased it differently last time. But I’m glad you remember. Very good, Grasshopper.
133~ Good luck! Do let us know how it turns out.
I simply HATE it when I end up shaving only one leg. Don’t ask me how I managed to miss half my leg, I don’t even know myself. Probably because I was in the shower listening to the movie (Pride and Prejudice, the good version with Colin Firth) and not paying attention to what I was doing with the razor in my hand. Though I suppose ending up with one furry leg is better than carving out chunks of flesh, but still. Grr, annoying, and of course I discover this while I’m drying off and don’t want to bother to get back into the shower and finish the job. *sigh*
Oh. And I really must do something about my hair, and being horribly indecisive, I’ll post a general question.
Since I’ll not be able to cut it for three months, and it grows a fairly average amount, should I 1.) have it cut to how I have been getting it (sort of a Beatles-esque, mop top haircut); 2.) have the bottom part chopped off straight to let it start growing out again (it’d still have layers on top, but it would be less shaped and more straight across at chin length); or 3.) have it cut quite short in a more pixie-ish haircut than before.
I suppose I’m leaning toward either of the latter two. Opinions?
Re: shaving: I usually do it once every few months or so, because, really, who cares? It’s silly how the “ideal” woman is completely hairless and a sort of fetishized pre-pubescent twelve-year-old – we’re mammals, mammals have hair. And, frankly, if my having hair bothers you, I probably wouldn’t get along with you in other ways as well.
139~ Heh, I usually just forget to or am too lazy to. But since today I’ll probably be in a swimsuit for the first time this summer….eh, I’m being superficial.
So, no haircut today. That means I can have breakfast and maybe *gasp* wash my car’s windows or hose off some of the paw prints on the hood. Circles seems to think that my car exists for him to sleep on and clamber over with muddy paws.
Then to Sarah’s. The ‘rents are off on hot dates (hah) to the bookstore and museum today, so I’m off roving alone today. I feel all grown up. Except not, since I wake up and lounge around on MB in my pajamas until I figure I really must get dressed and eat something. I’m going to make such a wonderful adult when I’m on my own for real. >.<
Re; Shaving: I only shave my legs if a) I’m likely to be running around bare-legged and b) they’re particularly hairy. Otherwise I let well enough alone and assume that no one’s going to be using x-ray vision to look through my jeans and/or knee socks.
Ebeth–How come you always meet the guys with geeky t-shirts? Maybe high school is just poorly built for it…
Speaking of geekiness in the extreme–the very pinnacle, no less– I want to get a TARDIS tattoo.
Seriously.
Re: Shaving: I think I’ve said this before, but I really only shave if I’m going to be wearing shorts, a skirt, or a dress, but otherwise, I don’t. I mean, it doesn’t really bother me to have hairy legs in the winter – it’s not like anybody’s looking thaaat closely, right – and like Lizzie said, heck with the whole “no hair no hair no hair” thing to be beautiful. I mean, since basketball season is in the winter, sometimes I don’t even shave then – I guess hair just isn’t something that I think is really all that important. *shrug*
Re:Shaving:
I don’t shave very often, not even when I’m wearing a skirt/shorts. *gasp*
Some people think I’m weird, but whatever. If I remember to shave, I’m likely to run out of warm water as soon as I find the razor anyway. XD A lot of the girls in my ballet class think I am “soooooo disgusting”. It amuses me.
Girls in your ballet class think you’re disgusting because you don’t shave your legs? They sound like the kind of people ( Shayna Hairisblond ) that I don’t like.
56.3- Enc, the Splayed Strokes filter makes the image look slightly wobbly, as if there’s static.
139- I shave my armpits, but never my legs.
141- I think I’d like to get the “Pulsar Map” from the Voyager/Pioneer interstellar messages as a tattoo, probably on my arm. (But if the “band” my brothers and I are in Guitar Hero was a real band, I’d paint it on my face before shows with stage makeup, with the center just above one of my eyes.)
Re: Shaving: I shave my legs probably once every other week in the winter and once or twice a week in the summer. I just prefer the way smooth legs feel to hairy legs.
Finals are done, we’re mostly just going into school now because we’re helping organize the senior party and clear up some things for next year, but I basically feel like I’m finished. the weather has been so nice so definitely thinking of summer now.
I’ll be doing more foster care counseling this summer, maybe spend some time at the beach, and a trip to Spain for a month because I scored high enough on our Spanish test to qualify (after my third time taking it, I took the test in freshman and sophomore year but the trip always filled up with the seniors/juniors for first priority so really psyched)….I’ve never been so really looking forward to that. We’ll be hitting Madrid, Barcelona, and all of the other main tourist spots. And those hot Spaniards are always a bonus.
Besides that, not much is going on…my friends are coming over tomorrow for a little birthday thing but basically just having a relaxing weekend. (Oh god don’t tell me I’m 17 already…I feel old. Only one more year until I’m finally legal though!)
Re: Shaving I shave about once a week or every other week depending on the season. Like Tesseract I just generally don’t like the feel of hairy legs…I don’t mind looking at them so much as just getting that uncomfortable prickly feeling which is the main reason for it.
1) If you have a VisaBUXX card, great. But also carry around a few 1, 5 and 10 Euro notes, as some stores won’t let you charge anything under 20 Euros.
2) Sleep a lot before you leave, because sleeping on a plane can be hard, especially if you’re in Economy Class.
3) Stay with the group. Always.
4) If you’re going to ask for something from somebody who doesn’t speak English (especially in a shop) plan out EXACTLY what you’re going to say before you go up and talk to them, so you aren’t left stumbling for the right Spanish word mid-conversation.
5) If you think somebody might speak some English, do 4), but start out with “Hello”, just in case. If they answer you in English, great! If not, you’ve already planned out what you want to say in Spanish, so it’s win-win.
The only other place in Europe I’ve visited was a two week thing in England and that’s hardly close to the same culture/feel as Spain I can imagine so it’ll be good to be someplace that’s more different.
1) I do have the VisaBUXX card, but good to know that some places won’t charge under 20, as I’ll definitely carry around some other notes.
2) On it. We are going to be in Economy, so I imagine cramped seating and bad food…not too good for lots of sleep on a long flight, although not nearly as long as China where I’ve been several times.
3) It’s a pretty big group of us – I think there are four chaperons (Three of those are Spanish teachers) and then maybe fifteen to twenty students I believe? I don’t know the exact number as of right now, but I’ll definitely stay with the group.
4) I think ideally we’re supposed to always speak in Spanish to the locals whenever possible seeing as this is an extra credit part of the Spanish curriculum back home, but if someone does speak English I’ll probably do the same anyways.
Friday morning was rushed & forgetful. No pillow. No paper. No time. Car ride.
And do you ever lay awake at night?
And do you ever tell yourself, ‘Don’t try.’?
Friday itself was comforting, but out of place, somehow. I didn’t have anything. I wasn’t brave enough to do anything. There was no frisbee.
Don’t try to let yourself down… Don’t try to let yourself down.
Friday night was just like I’d remembered it… The depression set in well enough. I was lucky to have Jim. ‘You still awake?’ No answer. Glad?
And do you ever see yourself in love?
And do you ever take a chance, my love?
Saturday morning wasn’t too tired. Breakfast. No writing. Like always.
Because you know that I will… Because you know that I will.
Saturday itself was normality and repetition. Gaining confidence. Skip. Lurch-skip, out-skip. I didn’t know where love was.
So hear this, please; and watch as your heart speeds up endlessly… And look for the stars as the sun goes down- each breath that you take has a thunderous sound…
Saturday night was bottomless black despair. Po-jazz made me glorious… Then po-jazz made me want to break things. Tree. No sleep. Journal. No sleep. Jim. No sleep. Downstairs. No sleep. Sneak. No sleep. Upstairs. No sleep. Journal. No sleep. Need you… No sleep. Then- Run.
Everything, everything’s magic.
Sunday morning was love, and all was right.
Just sit back and hold on, but hold on tight… Prepare for the best and the fastest ride. Reach out your hand and I’ll make you mine-
Sunday itself was an end to many things. Breakfast. No meeting. Bagpipes. Little arranging. Need us…
Wow, an innocent shaving comment sparked a whole bunch of replies.
Like Tess, I prefer smooth legs. Not really because of how they look, but how they feel. When my legs get hairy they itch. However, preferring doesn’t mean I actually get around to it that often. Usually I only actually worry about it if I’m going to be wearing shorts/skirt, and even then, I don’t really bother if it’s not convenient. Armpits, they need to be shaved. I do them far more often, though sometimes I forget them as well. Again, preference vs. actually remembering or having enough time/hot water in the shower. And if I’m going to be wearing a tank top/cap sleeves and who I’ll be around.
Today I wore a swimsuit and was among people I don’t really know that well, so I wanted to look non-gorilla-y. That and it’s the first time of the summer, so there’s always that “AAHH I look like a freak in a swimsuit!” thing from lazing around all winter. For me anyway. Hideous tan lines and stuff. ANYWAY.
However, it annoys me when my legs are hairy. At least in the summer. In winter I just can’t be bothered to shave over twice a week but in the summer I must. At least every other day.
Plus, I ran out of razor blades, and therefore now must use disposables. >_<
Zinc! *glomps*
Hey, I’m in your story? Cool! I’m blind? Um, okay…but a healer. What does that entail? Pray tell, I’m quite intrigued. Why did you choose that for me? Just curious.
Anyway. It’s god to see you around. I’ve missed you.
my comment about shaving disappeared somehow! or maybe i forgot to post it or something. i don’t remember. anyway i was something about capris and shaving half your leg to make it look all shaved. which i often do.
MARCON DAY TWO WAS ALSO SUPER FUN! i won’t go through the whole day because this keyboard sucks and i should sleep (i didn’t bring my laptop home) but the two most exciting things were probably hanging out with a guy dressed as the fifth doctor (celery and all) having some intense doctor who/firefly discussions, and seeing once more with feeling with a shadowcast. it was a total singalong, they had the words up on screen and everyone was singing and even saying the funniest quotes along with the show, and then the girl in charge invited anyone who was interested in joining to come talk to her, so of course i SO did. i’ve already emailed her even they do it every year at MARCon and the same people don’t always go, so yeah, i could totally be in the shadowcast next year
also i made new friends which is always fun. again, i love everybody and everything
also i got henna! it is super pretty! it is way more hardcore than anything i could afford at a fair, and the guy was just doing it for donations, he didn’t seem to expect any money at all. i gave him $5 though because my hand is intensely awesome right now.
okay right now about eight other things to tell are running through my mind but this keyboard is seriously awful and i’m getting sleepy so i’m just gonna leave it at it was awesome going back tomorrow! at 10 in the AM, that’s earlier than i even have classes these days plus bus, so i should get up at like 8:30 or 9. bleh.
That piece… *dies* I’ve had to play it in band for the last few weeks… We’re playing for graduation. Well, I’m not playing for graduation, since I’m going to be at a math competition, but I had to learn the music anyways.
I felt SO sorry for the people in our band. We had a huge class, and the ceremony went on and on and on…. Even with taking turns on the conducting and playing variations, it must have been an ordeal. I was in chorus — we sang our one number (“You’ll Never Walk Alone”) and were done.
I played that the last two years as well! The 6th grade and 7th grade Band and Strings members combine, and they have to play Pomp and Circumstance as the graduating 8th graders (from Middle School, that is) walk in. There’s 200 of them, so it takes a long time. But I don’t have to play this year, because I’M graduating. HA!
155- Are there words to describe my jealousy envy? No there are not. I don’t know what this event that you are attending is…but if there are mad Doctor Who and Firefly fans I am SO SO JEALOUS ENVIOUS.
Yay! I’m back from New York City! My trip in a few words:
Large ads.
Mobile food vendors SQUEE so cute!
Hotel. Huge rotating cabinet.
Research at Columbia archives. AGH can’t read writing.
Next morning:
BAGELS.
Research at Columbia for four hours.
Pool.
Next morning:
Street fair! People selling cute things! Famous jewelery designer!
Lunch at Sushi Samba.
Magnolia Bakery! Yay!
TOO MANY PEOPLE ON THIRTY-SECOND STREET. PANIC.
Train is an hour and ten minutes late.
That was more words than I thought. Really, here’s a summary:
JADE COLLEGE IS GOING TO BE SO FUN and we will hang out SO MUCH it is going to be ridiculous roadtrips all the time except probably not that often, because like, gas money. BUT STILL
Me too!!! Except for the community service hours I have to finish before the graduation ceremony, but it’s not having to where my school’s stupid uniform anymore that counts.
Fast moderation recently. Shiny.
I really wish the book I ordered would get here soon. But it won’t. Not until at LEAST Tuesday, since I’m guessing no mail on Memorial Day.
Unfortunately, I don’t believe I saw you, although I was looking out for Musery Loves Company t-shirts…
Um, GAPAs, I’m having a problem. When I’ve been on MB today, my keyboard randomly jams and refuses to type…it hasn’t — oh wait, Nym says it’s done that on other sites. Cake. *bashes invisible keyboard*
I just got back from my school’s weekend summer camp. It…sucked. It really sucked. I never want to go to something like that again. I’m still crying over it. There were a few good/not totally sucky moments, but they are far outnumbered by the bad ones.
A lot. It was a lot of different things making it sucky. There weren’t many other people my age there, and my two friends who did come…you know how some camp cabins have a separate room for the counselors? They took that and called it their ‘palace’. They’ve known each other for longer than I’ve known them, and we aren’t besties anyways, and I didn’t want to be a part of their group, but …
And everyone in my group was obsessed with what they were wearing. They took forever to get dressed. We had no chance of winning the inter-group competition because a lot of that depended on timeliness and we weren’t timely at all because of that.
We weren’t allowed to go anywhere by ourselves, even back to the cabin to get something. We had to have a counselor with us at ALL TIMES. No freedom of movement at all. The activities weren’t all that fun. Team Initiatives was such a waste of time, IMHO. We had all these group activities and icebreaker-style games and we had to work together and follow the game’s quixotic rules and get too close to each other and I was just not in the mood. And every adult on the trip with us was so moralizing…
I totally freaked out on the high ropes, and my little sister was swinging on them like Tarzan. I was so jealous. And embarrassed from my patheticness. We had to wait an hour and a half for the canoes because the group before us got lost. At the bonfire, it was freezing and we weren’t even allowed to toast our own smores, which makes sense given the amount of people, but that took all the fun out of it. Then there was this little incident with a teacher whom I’ve never gotten along with that sent me off in tears. And I couldn’t go back to the cabin. Had to stay with the group. In the cold. Without a jacket.
I sat out the water fight.
The food wasn’t that great. The water was well-water and was sulfury, and we had to use that to drink and to wash up in. My mother told me later that you aren’t supposed to drink the tap water at places like these…The toilets were puke-worthy. And there was only a shower curtain, not a proper stall, which would make it really awkward if someone walked in. (We made an ‘in use’ sign.)
And on the way back, it was decided that there would be no rest stops, so we would get home quicker. This would have been fine if I hadn’t gotten my period the day before. The result was, quite predictably, a bloody mess. Ugh
The good stuff:
The beach was nice. I went wading and gathered shells. The sunrise and moonrise were gorgeous, though I had to get up way too early for one and was too busy crying to appreciate the other. The high ropes were that bad, but I needed to attack my fear somehow, so I view it as character-building. And my teacher/counselor on the ropes was priceless. Birdwatching was OK, and so was Archery. Canoeing, once we got started, was actually pretty fun. Me and the other girl in the canoe argued and insulted each other the entire time, because she decided to switch positions while in the river, went out into the water to switch with this other girl, decided to see if she could swim faster than the canoe, was forced to change her mind, but I paddled off, shouting that she had made her decision and now had to swim in it. Then she got in and we argued over her crazyness and my freaking out over the rocking boat the entire way back. Yeah. Fun. Possibly the highlight of the trip.
I felt I was being treated like such a little kid. Now that I’m graduating, I don’t ever want to do something like this again, ever.
*sniff* Thank you. Only…chocolate hurts my teeth. I think I might have cavities. (And I think they got worse over the weekend too.) Oh well. Since it’s virtual, it’s guilt free. Om nom nom nom nom…
164~ Inspired college students we all know, or ones only you know? Because that’s a cool pie. Even being a non-LOTR fan, it’s a cool pie. It looks very eatable. *drools*
Heh, I talked to Ben for about an hour and a half. I love my shipmates. We made a deal, he’ll let me use his iPod touch for intarwebz in port if I buy him ice cream. SO I SHALL HAVE INTARWEBZ IN PORT FOR SURE.
One I know. Her mom used to have my present job, though I also know her through community art events. She held her high-school graduation party at the museum, in fact.
I’d be happy to. I can’t stop what I’m doing at the moment, but I’ll try to write a little something later today or tomorrow. For now I’ll just say that museum jobs are incredibly and amazingly varied these days. An added benefit is that the profession attracts Muserly sorts of people.
In 21 minutes I am meeting Christopher J. Cassidy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (He was the 500th astronaut in space.)
So, the parade was… torturous interesting. It was really fun, but insanely hot. I don’t think I’ve ever sweated that much ever.
The rest of my weekend was fun though. Saturday, I volunteered at the museum and got to walk the opossum there. :3
And then I gardened for the rest of the weekend. We got a eucalyptus plant, a small one, and put it in a pot. It’s pretty cool. The yard is going to look beautiful when everything comes up.
.
I might go to the beach later, after I catch up on studying/hw…
Graaahhhh! Gravatar changing is no fun. Password forgotten or changed when I signed up for an account here, I didn’t figure that out, and now my password here doesn’t work for there…Whatever, I’ll figure it out later. Time for brunch.
The sad truth is that I hadn’t heard of Muse when I first knew Sarai. By the time I became reacquainted sufficiently to appreciate her talents she was wrapping up high school. Now I fear she’s too immersed in her preparations for becoming the first human on Mars — a process that has a lot in common with going to college. But you are correct that this was a serious case of GAPA fail.
170.1~ It’s never too late! I suppose you can be kind of forgiven. But only kind of, mind you. *shakes head sadly* And I had such confidence in you, too.
172~ I thought you were 16 already, whoops. In any case, I hope you’re having an awesome day!
We went in the creek today, and I’m waiting for a towel so I can get a shower and dressed again. Cold swimsuits and muddy feet aren’t the most pleasant.
So, we went to a Memorial Day parade, which was very moving, and I wore my NASA baseball cap. Some lady was selling plastic flowers for a veteran’s organization, so we bought some and wore them in our buttonholes.
My dad said I was wearing a good hat for Memorial Day, and I said that I guessed so, because it was sort of patriotic, but there’s a separate NASA Day of Remembrance in January/February. So then he asked why they couldn’t remember the astronauts together with the servicepeople on Memorial Day.
And I told him the obvious reason, that they didn’t die in a war, but somehow, that didn’t feel like a good enough reason.
Christopher Cassidy was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (overuse of exclamation points totally contradicts my tired and sleep-deprived state)
Also got some money, which is nice but is probably going towards college tuition and not fun things, but oh well.
I’ll get more presents (and a laptop!) closer to my grad party, which’ll be on July 4th when my family all comes down and stuff.
WOOOOOOO CONGRATS!!! *confetti* *pie* *confetti pie*
i totally know what you mean about the DS, i have one but the battery is dead and the recharging cable is lost and so on….oh pokemanz i wish to play you *tear*
laptop and money and family are good too! lol family comes last in that list yep
congratulations again! WHEEE
I was going to go to my town’s Memorial Day Parade… It sucks, but it brings back memories of watching it and then later playing in it… Plus, you get free candy and hot dogs. And my 3-year-old cousin would have loved it. Then it rained… (What? Of course I didn’t walk around that house singing “Don’t Rain on My Parade” half an hour before the parade as it was threatening rain…)
Anyways, I haven’t been on as much lately. My friend sort of pulled me into an RPG.
*happy*
My team won the Circle of Fifths competition! (Music Theory classes)
We won! *happy* We got 59 seconds on our second time. Except we messed up where we put a sharp, so that gave us a ten-second penalty. But we still won. So all’s good.
And dance camp starts tomorrow. That will be fun, I guess.
Yay. Popular-esque girls all screeching about how gross I am.
Posting from school, hooray!
Yeah, nothing much to say.
Except that I’m coming to the US in… *counts frantically* SEVEN DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeeha!
I have never actually said “yeeha” in real life… somehow I just never come across situations in which it would be apropriate.

Patience, Please
This site is under reconstruction and will look strange for a while. We regret the inconvenience.
Too bad there’s no pic yet. I like this one though.
First post??!!!
Really? Haven’t you been on since, like, the very beginning?
Hey, look! New thread! *is feeling slightly happier* (slightly mind you)
2.1 – I’m pretty sure I remember Kai joining the blog… Fall 2007, I think…
Wow…that’s later than me! I feel old…
New thread. Joy. Something nice I can’t barf on.
Did I mention today is not a good day? I have a math test tomorrow and even though I’m prepared and it’s my best subject I still feel like throwing up. Happy me.
*hugs* I feel your pain.
SFTDP:
Sorry about that post. I’m …not feeling great.
bookgirl, I hope you feel better soon.
Aww…I’m sorry to hear that, bookgirl. *hugs*
Guess where I am?
AT THE LIBRARY! YAY! *putters off in fit of randomness*
No, no, no! It’s spelled gravvie.
It’s gravy.
I lloked it up in the dictionary. It says spellings may vary.
What, a way of saying “gravatar” when you are too lazy to type it out is in the dictionary?
I say gravy instead of gravatar when I’m lazy.
Joking.
*sigh*
Yes. Yes. This is my philosophy for today.
(And yes, it does include the sigh, because it gets awfully boring doing nothing.)
Although I did not watch TV. Just played Portal and relaxed.
-A
I think my brother has been attached to Portal all day… Does it have creepy computerized voices?
yes. GLaDOS FTW
It has a creepy computerized voice.
Yes. Lots.
-A
Yeah, then he’s been attached to that.
Yay!
3- December of 2007, actually.
Can you say ‘win’?
Interesting, though. I thought I’d seen Amistad. Perhaps… I saw a clip?
I know we watched at least part of it in class. What’s the plotline, again?
-A
it’s about a slave ship going to America, and there is a revolt and the slaves land the boat and there is a discrepancy about who they belong to, as well as their treatment while on the boat, and a lawsuit and at the end they get taken back to Africa.
In.
-A
I wanna join! And I will… after I finish my Spanish homework… *collapses*
Oh, I’ll join.
Excellent! I knew I wasn’t alone…Now we can all gripe about persnickety teachers, too much homework, deadlines, and other nasty school stuff together!
Or we can determinedly forget about all that and spend our time pointedly not worrying about school stuff. What do you think?
*joins*
I am emotionally blank right now. I really don’t know why, but it’s an interesting experience because I’m not really feeling anything right now. I think it was because I was recently very happy because I’m one of the top ten freshmen academically, and I’ve tired of being excited about that, but I don’t have anything to be sad about, so I’m just blank.
I can’t wait to take psychology, maybe then I’ll finally understand my brain.
Emotions are overrated. I have them occasionally.
I have them when I don’t have logic.
I have emotions when I don’t have logic.
Which translates to “not very often”.
Emotions are very overrated.
Without emotions we wouldn’t be able to make decisions, even simple ones. The logical brain spins its wheels without emotional backup. Of course, emotions left to wander free without some rational checkpoints cause plenty of problems, too.
Just wondering how many people compulsively refresh every few seconds.
That is all.
-A
Me.
At least I am not alone.
Just look at that thunderous response, though!
-A
I do.
Me, when I’m on.
I…don’t. Weird when everyone else says they do, but I’m constantly moving to new threads so I just check the recent comments box when i do that. Which is approximately every few seconds.
Same idea, though. I use that sometimes.
-A
I never do that because if I’m on a thread that long, I will either be totally absosrbed in it or posting obsessively myself.
Right now i’m obsessively refreshing the ugo site because they’re giving away FREE JOSS WHEDON STUFF go check it out
Wait what? Where? Free Joss Whedon stuff?
follow ugodotcom on twitter, they are doing ten giveaways (they’ve done four already) to the first person to tweet the secret message on the website (they put up a joss whedon quote in the description of the top story)
the prize is doctor horrible on blu-ray, the guild on DVD, and a documentary or something about firefly
Oh… Meh. *doesn’t have Twitter and doesn’t feel like getting one*
i’ve been in class so i haven’t done the last three, but for the first one i was SO CLOSE >..<
I do.
Thanks guys! *hugs back*
12-I’m in. Most definitely.
14~ Me. I refresh constantly.
Strange looks? What could be more natural than singing sea songs on a sailing ship? But, yes, we had fun.
Happy birthday, Fiddler!
In science, our group was trying to think of a name that all of us would get, but noone else would. We ended up adding our own references no one else gets in. Right now it is-Killer Coding Ninja GAPAs.
It’s flattering, but… you say other people in your group get that?!
Each of us has one that the others don’t get.
Um…GAPAs…is that “Week’s Top Threads” thing new or am I just exceedingly oblivious?
‘Tis new. We found a plug-in that lists a blog’s most popular posts. Right now, it has been counting for only a few hours, but it will become more accurate with time.
Cool!
Does it reset each week, or am I taking the title wrong?
It’s progressive: counts back seven days from whenever “now” is (once it has been counting long enough).
Oh, okay.
I like it!
Wow, we’re really building up the list of things on the sidebar.
I like this new feature, very cool and a much faster way to access threads.
Can people please come to the Hot Topics thread? I posted about an issue there that I’m somewhat eager to talk about, but I think it’s gonna die out (the issue, not the thread) soon…
Wow, I totally didn’t even notice that this was a new Random Thread…
That’s awesome. Was it your idea?
no, it was an actual xkcd comic. castle just took out the swearing
Oh, right… Sorry, didn’t remember it too well. (I’ve read every single xkcd! Do you honestly expect me to remember all of them?)
I’ve read every one. I remember them all. *acts aggravatingly holier-than-thou*
But did you read all the mouse-over text?
Of course.
Do ya know who really likes XKCD? (Pulls out stepladder and megaphone)
-takes megaphone and stands on stepladder- (Thanks.)
I do!

Sadly, I read every comic and didn’t make the connection of Help I’m Trapped In A Driver’s Liscence Factory Elaine Roberts until I read the article on wikipedia.
I also read the mouseover text, that explains the sadness of this realization.
…I may be slaughtered for this, but does anyone read the xkcdsucks blog?
*slaughters*
I will set the velociraptors on you.
no. that site irritates me SO MUCH. so you don’t like xkcd. bfd, other people do. dear xkcdsucks dude, stop whining and write your own damn comic if you really think you’re that much better.
OH NO, NOT 100 PERCENT OF HIS COMICS ARE FUNNY! OH NOOOOOOOOOOES!
Actually, a lot less than 100 percent of his comics are funny. The last one I think I laughed at was 726. Wait, 735 was pretty good, actually.
And Piggy, I think I’m entitled to be in a minority without being mocked. At least I’m making arguments instead of immature comments.
I’d personally be okay with XKCD if it didn’t have the swearing. I have a problem with excessive swearing. But that’s just me.
I try not to swear too much myself, but I’m used to it from other people at this point.
i just honestly don’t understand why anyone would waste their time doing a blog like xkcdsucks. i know you don’t have to make something to be critical, but in this case this guy honestly just comes across as bitter and seems to have this attitude that making a funny webcomic is easy and that he should be personally insulted when xkcd makes a less than hilarious comic. i haven’t read the blog in ages (obviously i don’t read it regularly) but from the posts i’ve read, that’s the impression that i got
the other thing is, there -are- cases where the comics are funny and you just don’t understand the humor. just because there are other people who also don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s not -funny,- it’s just more specifically targeted humor. i don’t particularly like penny arcade, but it’s not that the comic isn’t funny, it’s that i don’t relate to the type of humor that they do. good and bad and likes and dislikes are two entirely different categories. you can dislike things that are good, and enjoy things that are bad.
i also get the impression that the people who enjoy it take it WAY less seriously than the people who hate it. yes, it’s a very popular webcomic and gets a lot of recognition, etc, but honestly, it’s a webcomic. if you don’t like it, don’t read it. it’s really not that big a deal. i just hate how people (not you, just people) seem to get personally insulted that “unfunny” (in their view) comics are being created for xkcd, when there are much worse webcomics being made all the time.
Right, but, not that I disagree, the argument is that it gets too much recognition, and that’s the travesty.
also, 513 is a perfect example of what i’m saying.
Hey! Now the MB is mobile-enabled! Thanks, GAPAs!
My mom has the xkcd app… And I have the xkcd book! It’s awesome!
I have both.
‘CARBOSE’

Yeah well my dad won’t let me read xkcd until I’m 27 or so!
Well, that kinda sucks.
Well, I could if I wanted to (you’d be amazed what you can do with an iPod Touch when your parents aren’t looking) but honestly, I probably wouldn’t let myself read it until I was 27 or so. I mean, I have put down several books when some of the content was just a little too much for me.
23- I guess I’m a Nintendo person, then.
I broke my calculator. Upsetting.
Oh gosh, I have to write a short story in English class and I have run out of ideas! It’s driving me crazy!!!
Hello there, newcomer!
Welcome to MuseBlog.
Why, thank you! I am quite overjoyed
Hi. I’m going to go visit a college for four days, and I’m not supposed to take my computer. *sob sob gasp*
☮
♥
So, bye for now. I’ll be back Sunday.
‘bye! Hope all goes well.
Good luck, Fiddler! Have fun!
So I’d better go complete it. So long!
Errata: Welcome back! One stop you should make soon is to your chess game with Keiffer.
Oops! Sorry ’bout that, Keiffer. I’ve moved now.
It’s okay!
I
VERY POSSIBLY
Might be coming back, if I can make sense of what happened to the Muse Academy thread.
Yes *pounces* Do come back!
WITCHY! *glomps*
We’re in Wonderland/Underland, about to have a tournament that will decide who will be the White Queen’s Champion.
fireandhemlock: Speaking of the White Queen, you and Errata still have a long-neglected chess game in progress, and it’s your turn to move.
Eheheh. When we start a new plot device, I’ll come back with the same character that I was using [elsewhere]
…Was I really missed by you, Bookgirl? WAS I TRULY MISSED?
*coughexternalblogreferencecough*
Pffft, it’s not truly external, just reffing something from another RP not on this site.
Which, by definition, is external.
Eh, whatever, it’s been snipped and so on. I’ll just randomly pop into the thread sometime.-I suppose it did require a snip, though.
(I SEEM TO HAVE ACQUIRED AN ATTITUDE.
How mysterious!)
Yes you were,
AGWitchneko. Surprisingly enough, I don’t just come here to bother you with my rants but I actually like most of you. That makes me feel happy inside.
Keiffer here, to tell the Buffy-watching portion of the ‘blog that I’m leaving to watch season 1 after I post this!
Yay! Buffy is good… Although season 1 isn’t as good as the others.
Why can’t they put something less annoying on?
Fox News? *shudders* *MILLIONS of hugs* That’s probably the worst possible thing to be in the background…
35- Same here. I do not like FOX.
So I’m in the National Honor Society now. My parents took me for a guacamole burger after the ceremony. Yum!
Congrats!
And there was much rejoicing.
Hurrah!
YAY
COLLEGE KIDS ARE SO MUCH MORE AWESOME
You have not graduated? How so?
-A
We didn’t use any snow days, so we ended a lot earlier than expected. Our graduation is this coming sunday… eep!
And then as it turns out, it was in my pocket the whole time. Even though I checked my pockets a million times. Strange…
That money should evaporate is improbable enough. But for it to evaporate and recondense — the odds must be astronomical.
Yes, and for the money to only be in its gaseous state for the one half hour this week when I actually have something to buy…
Good God!
Now, that’s just silly.
Why, thank you.
Oh dear. Dangerous nachos.
Nachos?! You didn’t buy them, did you?
Well, I was gto buy them, but then my money disappeared…
I was afraid you might have borrowed money from someone else, with incalculable consequences.
Agh! An armageddon of processed cheese sauce!
*actually did have nachos today at lunch* I did think about whether it would interfere with the time lords’ plans, but I knew where my towel was…
37 (Jade)- I AM SO JEALOUS. Um, envious, that is.
You’re right. I’ve been following it whenever I remember, but I hadn’t checked in a while. Thanks for the reminder.
25.1 – Beaten again.
Castle: With a blogname like yours, shouldn’t you be playing chess?
If you go with choice a, don’t forget the flame throwers.
-A
I heard that blunt objects are good, as long as you’re dealing with zombies that will sustain damage.
Google’s logo is fun. I command everyone to go and play it. Now.
*plays Google*
I already have.
My mom did. ^^’
It’s great!

Yes, Robin Hood is great.
I just discovered quackometer. net. It’s a website that tests a website to see if they’re a quack or someone trying to sell pseuodoscience.
(By the way, MuseBlog got 0/10 points on the quack scale.
Nice.
Even with Ducky and Beedle here?
Well, they’re perfectly smart.
Oh.
You were making a joke.
*quacks up laughing*
Errr.
I think Alpaca is invading my braiiiiin…
Puuuns… *drool* puns… beware the punny alpacalips… puuuuuuuns….
AHEM.
Heh.
Nym just asked me why I was laughing so hard.
Really?
I must admit, “punny alpacalips” took it a bit too far. What can I say, I was in a pun-making mood. *shrug*
I don’t get the Beedle part… *feels thick*
Beedle the Bard has pet ducks, too.
My ducks have decided that it’s fun to chase my 80-pound dog around the yard.
*quacks up some more*
Like, duh.
It isn’t. However, according the the magazine that told me about this sight (NewScientist), quantumhomeopathy. co. uk got a 10/10.
Actually, I think we’ll all be dead by 2012, and that’ll be when the Earth explodes. *wise nod* So you’ll be brought back as a zombie.
But I can’t die, because I’m a garlic loving vampiric giant space squid!
*cough*
Braiiiiiins…. bloood….. blow up the world…..
Actually, I think it’s because I’ll graduate in 2012. Through the sheer force of school trying to suck me back in and deny me my freedom, the world will end.
And don’t forget that I’m going to help!
You guys make me so happy. -wipes away tear-
So yeah, the thing Piggy was talking about. It’s basically called Othertwhere, kind of the crossroads of the universes. Characters are:
Sorcerers: Zinc Rovaviemi (me), Re-nier Alesund (Rainbow), Jaed Styonn (Jadestone)
Artisans: Tai Fan (THF), Enc Ladus (Enceladus), Ret Hhawk, (RtH), Mag Nollia (Princess Magnollia)
Healers: Armadda Brnc (Armada), Tsudoh Brnc (SudoRandom), Aggi Fshi (Agrrrfishi), Midni Fdler (Fiddler)
Warriors: Avalon Neko (AvalonGirl), Xerix Tomera (ZVX), Ie Manu (I-Man)
Rogues: Fireh Hemlocke (Fireh), Ebeth Alan (Ebeth), Byuk Weidern (BookGirl)
Industrialists: Alis (Alice), Posc (POSOC).
Shoot, I have to leave. I’ll see if I can go into more detail later. Bye!
OOOooooh, I’m an Artisan? *artisans*
Why can’t I be an artisan?
Warriors are… too warrior-y.
…..When did I stop making sense?
Fail. I’m a rogue. *headdesk*
Does anyone know where I can get my brain refurbished? (That didn’t sound strange at all.)
I wonder that often, though I have not found any places so far.
I’m so happy that I’m a healer because I just got a doctor’s coat from my friend and I’ve been wearing it all the time.
WOOO MAGIC SORCERESS WIN
Am I evil or good? It’s fine if I’m either.
Industrialist? STEAMPUNK FTW
I’m an Industrialist too. -steampunk high five-
I made a steampunk computer on the visual arts thread!
Whee, I’m a rogue! Like a warrior with more personality (and moral deficiencies) XD *is happy*
On the other hand, since I spent the weekend trespassing and entering (minus the breaking part) and sort-of forging, this doesn’t sound to far-fetched.
Confused… I see no mention of whatever Piggy was talking about, but all the same it still sounds very cool…. Please tell me more…
did you know my last name? because if not, that’s -really- funny
No. I was thinking up a character last name for a different person, and used it for you. It’s actually spelled Alann.
haha well my real last name is Allen (oh geeze it’s the famous i’m-over-18 announcement…i don’t think i’d ever said before)
Whee. I’m a healer. XD *whines* Can’t I be a Sorcerer? Or an Artisan? Or a Rogue? Or anything but a Healer?

Zinc: No. You’re a Healer. T_T
Me: All right, all right.
Anyway, it sounds pretty cool!
Sorcerer!
Don’t love the name, but it doesn’t really matter if I have a good character.
Okiiiii… the list from memory…
Aw… *must wait*
Atmospheric conditions were similar out on LI. Played havoc with the radio.
I’m going to New York on Thursday to do research at Colombia. It’s going to be awesome. I can’t wait.
( I mean, the stuff other than the research. )
I’m trying to do it in GIMP, what does the “Splayed Strokes” filter do?
32.2- By “plot device”, you mean “story arc”, don’t you?
Urm, something’s gone wrong with the nested comments. Is Robert attempting to fix the mobile theme?
And now they’re fine. Strange.
It must have happened when I pulled the comment with the EBR back into moderation space till I had a chance to take a look at it.
All right, tvtropes… you have satisfied my misguided interests… Thank you so much for including many warnings. I don’t want to know any more.
Maths Lover’s latest method of procrastination: YouTube. Specifically, Tik Tok and Lady GaGa parodies.
“I wake up in the morning feeling like Pete Best! I’ve got my drumsticks I’m out the door and I’ll be back at six!”
Aaah! Suddenly all the comments above 51 have vanished! They’re just… gone!
What did you do, GAPAs?
Are you on an iPod? They’re still there for me…
Wow… I read that as “Are you an iPod?”
*fail*
I don’t think you’re an iPod.
iPods. Heh… My beloved iPod touch first generation got laughed at because it doesn’t have speakers. Or people look all over the iPod and then look at me incredulously and ask where the volume control is. *headdesk* But I love my little first generation almost completely obsolete iPod.
I’ve got a second generation Shuffle, so it doesn’t do anything except play music. But it’s better than no iPod!
Also, it’s pink.
I’m trying some new formatting options. That one was supposed to put the most recent 50 comments on the first page, to help all the poor iPhoners out there. Maybe it doesn’t work well with nested threads. I’ll try it again…
Hm. It’s supposed to divide the comments into pages, but I don’t see any pages. Oh, well. I’ll try something else later.
if you have to get rid of the nested threads to make it work, well, that wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Just sayin’.
56.2- Great! Columbia’s a great college.
I’m going to go read the children’s book I made in Latin class to a fourth grade class at the elementary school I used to go to! (I love that school, I really do. The architecture’s very old-timey and dark enough to be mysterious, but not scary.)
Question: Who on MB knows who in real life? As in, would be friends anyway without the blog (not counting Kokons here). I’m beginning to lose track.
Do my sister and I count? I don’t think that’s what you’re referring to, but just in case, Em&Em is my older sister.
Princess_Magnolia and I are siblings, and we know Keiffer and SudoRandom in real life.
I know no one…
Not even anyone who actually reads Muse in my area!!!
AM, Beetles, AtH.
I don’t think he *can* hijack your webcam without it telling you. And also, he likes your shirt.
Considering your comment occurred before our recent conversation….I shall let it go. *glowers*
Just ignore me, ok Luna? *ducks just in case*
Cake.
I didn’t take the subject tests but the SAT itself wasn’t too hard…. I am sure you will do fine!
You know what’s the most ironic thing in the world?
A Botox ad with the caption, “Freedom of expression is what I’m all about.”
I MEAN, SERIOUSLY?!
Hi, you two! Glad to hear you’re having fun!
I just discovered what Toxoplasmosis was, and my brain was blown. I mean blown out of the stratosphere. Jeesh. A parasite that can affect your literal personality, that currently inhabits up to one third of the world population? That’s just scary.
I grew up around cats and am pretty sure toxoplasmosis has affected me.
I have seriously listened to every single one…. Give or take 1 or 2…. You can get them all on iTunes…
Oh god, RadioLab is amazing.
i am never around cat litter, as a general rule. apparently i’m very open though :-/ (i don’t know, i see myself as normal amounts of open but that was joe’s explanation as to why everyone tells me things and then goes “why am i telling you that? that is something i really just tell people i’ve known for years, and we definitely just met”) ((that seriously happens so often it is like wow people, either i have superhuman powers of compelling people to talk or people are just really not as good at hiding things as they think)) (((i want superhuman powers but i feel like it is probably the latter)))
It always make me feel better about being allergic to (read: can’t breathe in the presence of) cats.
I consider myself a cat person. *fear*
*since the two I can so far really imagine going to are both tiny liberal arts colleges. I have no brain tonight. Sorry.
Interesting.
was in many an SSSS and hated me.
My Media teacher was involved in an “incident” with some Year 7s, so she was twenty minutes late to class and for most of that time we waited in the corridor for a teacher to let us into the classroom. We Year 9s stood around in pairs and threes while a Year 10 told all her friends about some party she went to and her crazy weekend…
And double English? Last year, my teacher
Hug…passionately? Interesting…
We have a philosophy thread; shall we discuss it there instead of here?
“There” = https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1601 .
I’ve discovered that Jacques Cousteau’s 100th birthday is next month. I really want to get one of those red knit caps now…
Sorry I haven’t been on. We have no more internet from our neighbors at our house. right now I’m in the library.
No, not my first time. I’ve listened to a few with my dad…
COME TO THE SUPERHEROS AND MARY SUES RPG NOW!!!!
So. In the southern LP on May 24, at 8:55 pm, it is NOT usually 81 degrees. It’s supposed to be a high of the eighties all week.
Running the mile in gym will be FUN…
My sister and I just made a groundbreaking discovery- the Daleks are descended from R2-D2!!
GASP. You did something with your sister?! GASP.
Summer is SO CLOSE!

DX
Aww…byreh! I’ll miss you a lot!
*piles of hugs*
As shall I *more hugs*
Who all is pumped for Towel Day tomorrow? I am.
meh, not attending. AS much fun as it could possibly be, I dont’ feel like dragging a caking towel with me to shadow….
LAME
i’m pumped! i’m also gonna see if i can find a lilac for terry pratchett
i have a lovely obnoxious towel and i’m printing out a picture of a lilac since i don’t know where i would find a real one
Totally bringing a towel to classes tomorrow.
Got my towel!
And Keiffer and I printed out six copies of the towel explanation each in homeroom. (We didn’t have time to do 42.)
Sad, sad day…I forgot.
Piggy- I am soooo pumped. I thought I missed it like last year, but I DIDN’T! Haha!
so guys, i just saw conan o’brien
it was SO AWESOME! he is a funny, funny man. and there was some great music as well. his band is awesome. the whole thing was just absolutely fantastic. and i defs got his autograph (well, it’s sort of a completely illegible squiggle, but hey)
and then i went to sloopy’s and had a giant pancake and a mini sundae. sleeping might be difficult :-/
CONANNNNDOOOOOO
my envy is limitless!
That’s nothing. My Mandarin oral exam:
Ai hao! (hobbies! hobbies!
Me: Er…
82- He must be so disaproving of his grandkids…
86- I haven’t seen my writing profile, but I do have journals going back to when I was six. I had the most atrocious spelling and a lot of the time, I wrote really cryptic things I would only understand when I was writing them, so I read them now and have no idea what I meant.
I know where my towel is.
Today is my one year blogirversary! I’m so happy I remembered!
Happy blogiversary!
Um….. so, yeah, sorta really belated news update for me?
*wears geeky math t-shirt*
AM’s friend? Hi.
Do do do do di doodley doo…I can’t think of anything to say.
Maybe I could sing the song that gets on everybody’s nerves, everybody’s nerves, everybody’s nerves.
Or I could wait a bit longer and then do my homework…No wait, that was my plan already.
I really love Museblog.
Ugh, homework. Don’t remind me. Also have to dig up a copy of my movie and paperwork for History Day because Ms. Sears wants to show it to the superintendent. ARGH. Go away homework.
Hello all. I’ve been working at a camp. It is fun, but tiring. How are you? What have I missed?
Oh, right. I don’t think we get all that for another two years(Year 11).
Luna just remembered that Towel Day reminds her of Torchwood (doesn’t everything?). In particular, a fanfic she once happened across in which Jack was confused and thought that Towel Day meant you were supposed to only wear a towel that day.
Given that it’s Jack, I don’t think I’d mind if he only wore a towel.
(although probably, since i just kind of dragged all my friends into it
there was a grand total of one guy there that i didn’t know).
anyway yes. today has been pretty awesome. but now i have to do LOTS of homework. so sadface
when i get back from class, i am taking a nap. hold me to that, museblog. i’m missing so much sleep, it’s getting legitimately unhealthy. eyes unfocusing, stumbling around, people probably think i’m drunk. no more, i say, no more! ebeth is going to sleep!
This made my day: I saw a license plate that said “CAKE!”
That’s amazing.
Well, today I saw a license plate frame that said “follow me to platform 9 3/4.” That made my road trip up to Torrance.
102~ LOVE! I don’t have special license plates. Alas. I don’t even know what my tag number is, to be honest. :/ I should memorize it.
100~ I’ll keep it in mind.
101~ Yes. Go sleep. Be healthy. Don’t die. We love you too much for you to die.
That is not fun. o_o
Yikes… The spanish teacher deserves it though.
Marching band uniforms + 90-degree weather = melted Beedle, and perhaps her flute as well…
Right now my computer tells me it’s 88 degrees.
Marching band uniforms + any temperature about 70 degrees = death
Ninety? I can’t even imagine.
Atlantis has landed for the last time! It’s quite sad, actually…*sob*
Did you know that it’s travelled around 195 million kilometres since 1985?
Yeah, I’ll eventually learn the katakana. That’s last on my list, though, because it’s not quite as essential for traveling.
Some travel haikus
for Piggy’s possible trip
will follow, right now.
Japan is SO cool!
You should totally go, Pigs!
(That nickname… oh, well.)
Try the fish ice cream,
and if you can, use a train.
The kids are SO CUTE.
Go in the spring, please.
Going in April is best.
Cherry blossoms rock.
If you cannot speak
Japanese pretty well, well,
just speak Japanese.
And if you do go,
be sure to write us back an
account of your trip!
When I went, Kim Jong
Il was launching nuclear bombs.
On that note, good luck!
I offer my thanks
For your offering of poems
Wishing me good luck.
I will be in school
The month you recommended;
I cannot go then.
I will do my best
To learn Japanese by then
So I will not fail.
Enc, according to my mom, you are pregnant with a salad. But even if you are, you’re still awesome as long as your hair is still swoopy.
piggy — i actually learned katakana first, then hiragana and kanji but apparently that is a really weird order to go in.
there is more katakana use than you would expect, but if you want to go the more rural route you probably won’t see as much. i would suggest the website smart.fm, for kanji especially, i used it while i was reviewing for my ap japanese test….it is mostly harmless GAPAs. i don’t know if it will be super helpful but it’s something.
kanji is definitely the most difficult aspect for me too :/ if you can find some simple books or manga online in japanese, they often have furigana alongside the kanji, which is basically the reading for each since younger kids who are reading said books are still learning. basically the more you see it the more familiar it will be.
That does sound like a very weird order. Maybe I’ll learn the hiragana first and then the katakana, in case the places I (might) visit have furigana. The kanji… gah. There’s just so dang many. Which to learn?
Yay kids’ books!
In any case, the grammar must be learned.
if you type kyoiku kanji into wikipedia, you should find lists of kanji expected of japanese students by grade level. i think that’s somewhat how my textbook was structured ( i didn’t know there was a name for it though lol). numbers and things come first then basic concepts like water, eat, see, book etc. that’s one way to go
So, Muffy came over for dinner tonight because she needed to get out of the house.
OhemGeorge, AlpacaLips, hiya!! *wanders away*
I thought of all you Dr. Who fans when I saw this on Facebook.
“KW is off to the Doctor tomorrow for her ankle, neck and back. Doubt anyone is surprised though!”
I would definitely be surprised.
The Doctor?! Where?! *looks around frantically*
* I think of Atlantis, Endeavour and Enterprise as guys (Challenger was, too), and Discovery and Pathfinder (And Columbia, before she was destroyed) as girls.
succeeded in her mind controlsome measure of….something left on MB*(23.2.4.2.1.1.1.1)
One dose of lightheartedness, coming up!
Wow. Did I just do that?
*wipes meringue off face*
*returns fire*
Did you? Or was that Rebecca hacking your account?
Nope. That was himself.
Wait a minute…what? Moi? Mild-mannered Bunniful hack Robert’s account? Wish I’d thought of that before…
*loads pie cannon*
*senses an impending pie war*
*begins planning alliances*
*intuits that it’s time to create another thread*

Pressure? She gave in after like, fifteen seconds.
I am shocked, shocked by these impertinent

yet completely deservedassaults upon my character. I do have a reputation to uphold here. There can only be one honorable reply to such an outrage:*gasp*
I have returned fire on the Pie Wars thread.
Sometimes I enjoy envisioning the GAPA(s) as masked vigilantes when they’re not moderating.
Sometimes?

Ugh… Singapore has such UGLY sculptures! Seriously… ugh.
118.1.1~ We love you too!

119- You, too?
(119, 122) *wonders whether she should be scared*
No, the villains of D.C. and NC should be scared!
Oh, hello!
I missed my 5K day? Dang it! I’m so old.
Kokonilly!
Nice to see you on!
And I wonder why you decided to drop by…
random thread.
like random text?
like this?
The daylight rushs toward Muse Fans. Large Pie expects Muse Fans after the stem. Whatever page moans on top of the conducted hypocrite. Muse Fans zooms around Large Pie. The unworkable physicist exercises into Large Pie. Muse Fans untidies an algorithm.
Not quite. ” as in no set topic.
13 maybe? It’s cool to listen to your parents and be sheltered from a lot of the yuck out there for now, but by the age of 16 or so (if not earlier) you should be able to deal with anything you can find in an XKCD comic.
) and then all of a sudden OMG DRUGS SEX VIOLENCE WHAT NOW?!?!
I agree to an extent, but it should be a gradual learning curve, not la de da happy fluffy bunnies (though you should know the truth behind them by now
If you’re not comfortable with that stuff yet, don’t sweat it, but don’t be all “well I don’t have to worry about that until I’m 27” because then when you get there it’ll be a huge scary issue, and huge scary issues aren’t fun.
*hug* That said, I’m sure you’ll do just fine. I mean hey, I’m one of those sheltered kids, and look how awesome I am, right? ^.^ [The last sentence was sarcasm.]
Whoa, long post. I’m probably overreacting. *shuts up*
You’ve told me this exact same thing before…
she speaks truths though! heed her wise words!
THERE IS SUCH A PLACE AS PIE TOWN AND IT’S IN NEW MEXICO!!!!
I cracked up laughing when I found this……..
Perhaps it’s worth a mention that in spanish, “pie” means “foot.”
Like the Monty Python city-splatting foot?
Foot town? Ew.
Kokonvention, anyone?
YES!! That would actually be a place possible to get to from where I live now! Anyone else?
It’s stylized as xkcd.
WHY CAN’T WE ALL JUST CHILL?
Haha, that happens to me waaaay too often, making illogical typxs. My fingers, they do not listen!
haha for me it is more like a sudden realization of “i’m wearing pants today, why even bother shaving”
that, or the other super-fun thing to do is wear capris and only shave halfway up your legs
MARCON IS SO MUCH FUN
we wandered around looking at stuffs to buy (i denied myself cash moneys for the first day so i didn’t spend a ridiculous amount. i’ll go back tomorrow with money) and then we went to the RHPS pre-show, but we’re going next week anyway so we didn’t stay for the whole movie. then we went to flirting workshop (for the LULZ…and believe me, it was lulzy) and then DOCTOR WHO PANEL oh my god i love that show so much. it’s not even just the fact that the show itself is brilliant, it’s the -fans- as well. they’re all so nice and interesting and intelligent! it’s like if you took trekkies and stripped away everything obnoxious and elitist. there was this girl who must have been about 6 who raised her hand and made a comment about hte doctor’s daughter and at first it was like “aww, it’s an adorable little kid who watches doctor who” and then you thought about what she was saying and it was like “daaamn, it’s an adorable little kid who really -thinks- about doctor who!”
i basically just love everyone ever right now
oh and to continue the secret geek love thing, there was a dude at the bus stop with an atari shirt reading night watch (my fav terry pratchett book) who complimented my firefly shirt.
it’s not even that i want to sex these people up or anything, it just makes me ridiculously happy that they exist in the world
127.1~ Well, I actually phrased it differently last time.
Opinions?
FIRST: DUDES WE LIKE WHAT WE LIKE ENJOY COMIX ENJOY NOT COMIX IDEC JUST ENJOY
SECOND: PIE WAR I AM NOT PART OF IT, BUT ENJOY
THIRD: PIGGY+AGGY KOKON, I HOPE IT WILL HAPPEN

I’m getting Portal today! (Or tomorrow, but probably today!)
And when you’re dying, I’ll be
Still alive!
And when you’re dead, I’ll be
Still alive!
you missed the free version!
I know.
It’s amazing. Simple game mechanics, simple concept, brilliant realization.
It’s easily the best game I’ve ever played.
I’m watching “A Hard Day’s Night” for like, the 70th time…because I own it!!!!
Also, congratulations on getting portal, Enc! It’s very very very very very x1000000000000 awesome.
All my friends (including Am) were telling me pretty much that. When I played it, I decided it’s better than advertised.
How long did yours take to download? Mine took… 7 hours.
Mine took 1 hour and 29 minutes.
I feel all grown up. Except not, since I wake up and lounge around on MB in my pajamas until I figure I really must get dressed and eat something. I’m going to make such a wonderful adult when I’m on my own for real. >.<
Then to Sarah’s. The ‘rents are off on hot dates (hah) to the bookstore and museum today, so I’m off roving alone today.
No sign of Agrrrfishi yet. But there’s plenty of time left in the day.
Good luck finding each other! I hope you two do!
(Pulsar Map: http:// www. cedmagic. com/ featured/ voyager/ pulsars. jpg )
In other news, my laptop came back and now it works perfectly! Yay!
Re: Shaving: I shave my legs probably once every other week in the winter and once or twice a week in the summer. I just prefer the way smooth legs feel to hairy legs.
I shave my armpits, but not most of my legs. I used to shave my calves and then I wondered why I did and then I stopped.
135- I vote pixie cut.
119- nice.
114- I want to learn Capoeira too. Some of my friends also do it and they talk about it a lot too.
Hello, oxlin! Don’t forget your chess game.
Stepping up enforcement, are we?
Well, if there’s a group near you, then you should definitely try it out! ^_^ It’s awesome. (Most of the time. XD)
Yes, it’s great! (except when you’re waiting to make an idiot of yourself in front of everyone to get that first corda).
hello!
148- You’re going to Spain? Awesome!
Some advice, having recently traveled to Italy…
Good advice.
If you are separated from the group though, don’t panic.
Pickpockets are more common, especially in tourist spots. Watch out.
We are going to be in Economy, so I imagine cramped seating and bad food…not too good for lots of sleep on a long flight, although not nearly as long as China where I’ve been several times.
2) On it.
Thanks for the tips!
Well, Aggie and I didn’t find each other. But we were in the same building for a long period of time. Good enough?
(CCYWC.)
Need us…
Everything, everything’s magic.

ANYWAY.
RE: Shaving: I haven’t ever. I might… if I really think it’s necessary. Though I am rather furry.
Furry is cute.
However, it annoys me when my legs are hairy. At least in the summer. In winter I just can’t be bothered to shave over twice a week but in the summer I must. At least every other day.
Plus, I ran out of razor blades, and therefore now must use disposables. >_<
SFTDP
Zinc!
MARCON DAY TWO WAS ALSO SUPER FUN! i won’t go through the whole day because this keyboard sucks and i should sleep (i didn’t bring my laptop home) but the two most exciting things were probably hanging out with a guy dressed as the fifth doctor (celery and all) having some intense doctor who/firefly discussions, and seeing once more with feeling with a shadowcast. it was a total singalong, they had the words up on screen and everyone was singing and even saying the funniest quotes along with the show, and then the girl in charge invited anyone who was interested in joining to come talk to her, so of course i SO did. i’ve already emailed her even
they do it every year at MARCon and the same people don’t always go, so yeah, i could totally be in the shadowcast next year
also i made new friends which is always fun. again, i love everybody and everything
also i got henna! it is super pretty! it is way more hardcore than anything i could afford at a fair, and the guy was just doing it for donations, he didn’t seem to expect any money at all. i gave him $5 though because my hand is intensely awesome right now.
okay right now about eight other things to tell are running through my mind but this keyboard is seriously awful and i’m getting sleepy so i’m just gonna leave it at it was awesome
going back tomorrow! at 10 in the AM, that’s earlier than i even have classes these days
plus bus, so i should get up at like 8:30 or 9. bleh.
Ebeth: You mean comment 131.2? It’s there.
OH WOW i am blind okay
yes if i haven’t mentioned already, i have not gotten nearly enough sleep this whole past week
I graduate in 2 hours! O.o
Also, while I was shower half an hour ago:
Mom: WHERE IS YOUR CAP
Me: It’s in the downstairs closet with my gown
Mom: NO IT’S NOT
Me: WHAT
But is was in there, so after some panicking we found it and I got to go finish my shower >.<
*starts humming “Pomp and Circumstance”*
I’ve had to play in band for the last 2 graduations, I *already* have it stuck in my head
Traditional as it is it’s so dull to play… hopefully just listening will be better XD
That piece… *dies* I’ve had to play it in band for the last few weeks… We’re playing for graduation. Well, I’m not playing for graduation, since I’m going to be at a math competition, but I had to learn the music anyways.
This will be my second time playing in band for graduation, and I now have it stuck in my head too. Congrats on graduating, Jadestone!
HA!
155- Are there words to describe my
jealousyenvy? No there are not. I don’t know what this event that you are attending is…but if there are mad Doctor Who and Firefly fans I am SO SOJEALOUSENVIOUS.Yay! I’m back from New York City! My trip in a few words:
Large ads.
Mobile food vendors SQUEE so cute!
Hotel. Huge rotating cabinet.
Research at Columbia archives. AGH can’t read writing.
Next morning:
BAGELS.
Research at Columbia for four hours.
Pool.
Next morning:
Street fair! People selling cute things! Famous jewelery designer!
Lunch at Sushi Samba.
Magnolia Bakery! Yay!
TOO MANY PEOPLE ON THIRTY-SECOND STREET. PANIC.
Train is an hour and ten minutes late.
That was more words than I thought. Really, here’s a summary:
Walking. Research. Subway. Sleep.
I am no longer a high school wooo!
Congratulations, Jadestone! Now you can resume your true calling as a warrior-princess.
*Warrior Princess Space Squid, you mean
Well, of course.
You aren’t a high school anymore, are you? Will you become a college next?
JADE COLLEGE IS GOING TO BE SO FUN and we will hang out SO MUCH it is going to be ridiculous roadtrips all the time except probably not that often, because like, gas money. BUT STILL
<3 <3 <3
158- Glad to see you had fun in my city!
Aww… *sends virtual chocolate* What happened?
You’ll wish you hadn’t asked. Prepare for a rant.
*hugs and a very large amount of chocolate*
*sniff* Thank you. Only…chocolate hurts my teeth. I think I might have cavities. (And I think they got worse over the weekend too.) Oh well. Since it’s virtual, it’s guilt free. Om nom nom nom nom…
Oh no… *hugs*
161.1- It’s okay, I didn’t go out much, as my mom was on a cleaning kick, so you probably wouldn’t have seen me.
Behold The Pie of Sauron:

(Baked by some inspired college students I know of.)
Epic!
Must… eat… my Precioussss… no Maaaster! Master not harm my Precioussss!
*drools* We should do that, instead of just drawing the eye of Sauron on unsuspecting victims…
I’m tired and I have a headache.
One I know. Her mom used to have my present job, though I also know her through community art events. She held her high-school graduation party at the museum, in fact.
Rebecca, could you tell me a bit more about your job? I’m probably going to have a museum studies minor, and I’d be interested to know what you do.
I’d be happy to. I can’t stop what I’m doing at the moment, but I’ll try to write a little something later today or tomorrow. For now I’ll just say that museum jobs are incredibly and amazingly varied these days. An added benefit is that the profession attracts Muserly sorts of people.
Thank you! My college has some museums and I love going to museums in general.
i would also love to hear about this! museum studies is something i’ve been thinking about as well….
Ooh! Ooh!
I’d also be interested in reading that article, however long it is or whenever it is published.
In 21 minutes I am meeting Christopher J. Cassidy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (He was the 500th astronaut in space.)
Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Hope you enjoy it!
So, the parade was…
torturousinteresting.
Well, I’m off to a renaissance festival today. If there aren’t hunks of mutton and steins of mead, I’m going to be very disappointed.
165.1~ Awesome! I approve of her location for her graduation party. And she isn’t a Muser because…..? Are you a GAPA or what? Get to work recruiting!
169~ *bites tongue* Have fun.
It’s disgustingly hot out and I’m all lethargic. Bah.
I’m having better luck grooming my niece for a MuseBlogging future. She’s already a Muser. Not quite ready for the Internet.
I am 16 today!
Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! And thanks to Fiddler too (post 173).
171.1~ Good work, agent Bunniful!
172~ I thought you were 16 already, whoops. In any case, I hope you’re having an awesome day!
We went in the creek today, and I’m waiting for a towel so I can get a shower and dressed again. Cold swimsuits and muddy feet aren’t the most pleasant.
166- Oooh, LUCKY! Congrats!
(overuse of exclamation points totally contradicts my tired and sleep-deprived state)
I got a DS Lite for my graduation
I haven’t had a gameboy since I lost my gameboy advance, so I’d missed TWO pokémon games (the only thing I ever really played. Shut up it was my childhood and is SO FUN)
Happy June everybody!
175- You are so lucky. Tell me more about this on the June thread.
Congrats, Fireh! That’s great
Posting from school, hooray!
