=in the book, forst hary is moved from the durseleys because the protective thing will stop when he is 17. many people help him do this, but death eaters catch up with him anyway and kill mad eye-moody, hedwig(surprise), and cut off george’s ear.fleur and bill get married, but marriage is broken up by death eaters. no deaths. harry then goes after the horcruxes, with ron and hermione. ron decides everything is futile, then leaves. hermione (not hger fault) breaks harry’s wand. ron then regrets this, and comes back. bladeblahdebla they go to luna’s dad’s house o find out about a symobol, which is realted to the deathly hallows unbeknownst to them. he tells them about the hallows, they are. 1-harry’s invisibility cloak(turns out its unique and amazing) 2-resurrection stone(can raise people from teh dead, but not really. just sort of) 3-elder wand(superwand, can do amazing stuff, is o0nly passed down by killing previous owner). hermione doesnt belive, harry does, ron is ambiguous. interupted by deathe aters called by luna’s dad because luna is held hostage. , they go aftera horcrux and are captured by roving gangs of wizards who seek bounty for mud bloods etc. brought to malfoy house, and incarcerated. olivander si there, along with lunadooby saves them, is killed in the process. tonks had married lupin, theyre having a baby.they rob gringotts, to find a horcrux, escape on a dragon. they go back to hogwarts. snape is headmaster, death eaters trule school. ginny luna and neville recreated dumbledores army, they organize a resistence to help jharry find horcrux. teachers help, get rid of death eaters. voldermort comes, is held at bay with big fight. lupin, fred, tonks bellatrix all die.percy returns on good side. they destroy all previous horcruxes. they then go get the other horcrux. draco, crabbe, goyle are waiting for them. crabbe dies, inadvertently destroys horcrux, harry ron hermione save draco. harry (alone) goes to voldemort, watches him kill snape because he thinks snape(who killed dumbledore)is the master of the superwand, which he got from dumbledores grave (dumbledore ahd it) harry takes snapes memories, puts them in pensive. he finds that harry is a horcrux, dumbledore told snape to kill him because he accidentally killed himself with a curse. (well, not that stupid, but i dont feel like explaining) snape was always helping him, but was jealous because he hated james potter, who stole his love. (li.ly potter) harry finds that the only way to defeat voldemort is to have voldemort kill him, as he is a horcrux. he goes to do this. he finds that voldemort didnt kill him, only the voldemort part n him because he gave his death freely. voldemort doesnt die either. they carry ahrry back to the school as if he were dead, harry comes back to life, duels voldemort, winsbecasue he is the master of the wand, voldemort dies. everyone is happy! but lupins son (orphaned is sill there! recognize anything? and harry is teh godfather!) anyhoo, epilougue(19 yrs later.) hermione marries ron, harry marries ginny, all have kids. draco is nice again, mairries and has kids. lupin’s son is livng witht the potters.

Tonks and Lupin died too. Tonks was one of my favs.
Well it took me a bit longer than i figured it would…we were partying at meijer, having fun running around and just barely not getting kicked out (i blame them though, honestly, if you’re going to leave a large net cage thing full of bouncy balls out late at night before harry potter…especially to a group of bored teenagers who have had menny swedish fish and sour patch kids and who’s collective sleep in the past week is probably about four hours…i think ball tag’s pretty tame, don’t you? considering all that) So we had to wait a bit to get the book, didn’t get in line until around 11:30, but we got out almost right after we’d gotten the book. Parentals had done grocery shopping while we were still running around freaking out pedestrians. But then we hung around talking a bit after we got back, and parentals had to drop people off (except for ck, who had her car (somewhat illegaly i think…ohio has some weird driving laws)) So i got the book upstairs at last at around 1, 1:30. But dad, considering my extreme lack of sleep, threatened bloody murder if i stayed up to read, so i had to wait a bit before i was sure he was settled…mebbe half an hour, mebbe a bit less. And i think i did fall asleep at one point, huzzah for catnaps.
Anyway, i really liked this one, despite so many of my favorite people being killed. But it’s not like there’s an absence from the next book to make it actually matter i guess…
I didn’t think harry was the horcrux, although i kind of hoped he’d die…although he was much less annoying in this book, thankfully. But it wasn’t a huge shock when it turned out he was.
i liked how neville killed nagini too, that was a good little twist. neville’s cool.
Snape turned out to be as complicated a character as i could’ve hoped, although less complicated than i would’ve dreamed. He’s even more definitely one of my fav characters now though.
Anyway, good book overall. I still like PoA best (that’s just such a brilliant story) but i think this could take second or third with re-reading and objective evaluation (i never really want to say where i rank the newest book when it first comes out…because for at least three of them i thought it was the best when i first read it, and then when i re-read the whole series again i changed my mind)
Oh, and Aberforth was cool. Luna’s house was great, didn’t think much of her dad though. Not because he sold out harry, but because he was basically luna but less so. Luna, however, remains way cool.
K i’m really going to stop now. Maybe i’ll go sleep or something. Or get some food, i’m kind of hungry. Anyhoo.

I’m so happy that snape turned out to be a good guy and that harry named albus (his kid) after him. though, albus severus potter is a pretty crappy name for a kid. I mean, totally going to be teased. I liked Hermione/Ron’s kid’s names though.
Teddy Tonks/Lupin is like harry! he’s an orphan! though i didn’t really get the whole victoire thing. who was she? and where was ted living? It was also a little weird when harry like, visited dumbledore when he anti-died.
But that was a good way of getting rid of the horcrux with out getting rid of harry.

The only death that really “got” me was Fred’s. But this book was definitely a big bloodbath. So many deaths!

Personal rant: AHG!! Okay, so I get the book at 12:04 or something, we were close to the front of the line and there were only about 70 people in the walmart anyway, and we get our complimentary poster and bookmark and all and run to cheeck out, me starting to read. We ended up in the slowest checkout line, we were the third people in it but the lady had issues.
Then, around 1 or something, mom tells me I can’t read all night and I have to go to bed. I thought she was joking, but she made me get in bed and turn the lights off.
Of cource, I snagged a book light and read under the covers for an hour, but it was not. cool. at all. Grr.
SNAPE: Man. I’m really glad with how Snape turned out, he got better with each book. He’s so much deeper now, instead of being the evil potions teacher. In the 6th he was sort of an evil potions teacher with a tragic past and full of bitterness, but she rounded him off nicely here.
NEVILLE: Man, he got a lot braver durring this book. He sort of seemed to snap there, just a whole “to **** with athority who gives a ****” sort of atitude.
FRED: Ah! I sort of guessed that one of them would die, but still. Poor

DEATHS: To make the war on Voldemort realistic, I think she had to put in some close friends dying. I wish she’d spared Fred, Lupin and Tonks, though. At least Ted Lupin is alive and well (and apparently snogging Victoire Weasley nineteen years later.)
HALLOWS: One of the book’s only flaws. They were introduced too late in the series to really have any impact, I think.
SNAPE: I’d like to say I thought he was good, but I didn’t. Luna (the blogger) will be pleased to find out her theory was right.
NEVILLE: I’m glad he, at least, got a happy ending. He avenged his parents by destroying Voldemort’s final horcrux, and finally got a professorship in Herbology at Hogwarts.
THE SIEGE: I’ve always wanted to see Hogwarts besieged by Voldemort’s forces, so that was one of my favorite parts. Also, I liked how the creatures of the Forest joined in on the fight. (If Hagrid hadn’t been so friendly with the thestrals, hippogriffs and Grawp, I doubt that Aragog’s kin would have been alone in joining Voldemort.)
HARRY: Finally, he’s no longer annoying. ‘Nuff said. It’s good that he was finally developed in a positive direction.
BELLATRIX: I loved how Mrs. Weasley took her out. Also- did you notice how fascinated she was with Voldemort in the first chapter? I think she was in love with him. Sick, but true.
OVERALL: The book was one of the best in the series, at least tying with the fourth and far outstripping the fifth and sixth. The somewhat random introduction of the Hallows turned me off a bit, but it was worth it to finally show Dumbledore as flawed and human. All in all, one of Rowling’s best efforts. Four stars.

Okay, so I admit to reading the spoilers. I can’t help it! It sounds like it’s a good book.

Kagcomix, and every body else who argued with my Snape is good, Snape loved Lily, Albus Dumbledore was in on Snape kililng him, Harry being a Horcrux, and RAB being Regulus Black, please bow down now, to my superior skills at analyzing and predicting all of these things, as of course, they were all correct. So was my speculation that Snape was the one who told LIly and Petunia about dementor being the one guarding Azkaban. HE was the nasty boy, not James.
So, my sort of theory on the cover was wrong (but it was just random s peculation) and sirius is dead (but I still think he was alive when he fell through the veil) and HArry managed to avoid death, and not in any of my suggested ways.
I can’t believe ALL of my theories were correct.
I cried for Hedwig, Dobby, Fred, Remus, Dora Tonks, Snape (even though I wasn’t so sure about his loyalties anymore) and Harry, starting when he found out he was a Horcrux and had to let Voldy kill him. It only took me about 11.33333333 hours to read the book (but since I was wroking 8 hours Sat., it was 2:10 at night Sat before i actually finished.)
Once again, and with full realization that I’m probably getting annoying now (and smug, and bragging), please bow down to my superior skills at predicting everything correct, for all my theories being correct, and just my overall brilliance. =)

I had to stop just before Harry realized that he’d have to die, so I was shouting in my head “Damn it, Harry! Don’t you dare do that to Ginny, you idiot!!!”. I felt depressed for a bit…I had to read the summary at the beginning of the thread before I could go on.
43- I completely agree. Where was the reunion between Ginny and Harry? Where was the über celebration that Voldy, dear old Voldy, was dead? Where was the cheering crowd carrying Neville around? Who was the next headmaster? Where was the digging of Snape’s grave? Whatever, the epilogue sucked.

Yes, more about them directly after Voldemort’s defeat would have been nice, but the epilogue was sweet too. We find Harry and Ginny, Hermione and Ron, Bill and Fleur and their daughter Victoire, and poor orphaned Teddy Tonks, all happy. Harry has forgiven Snape for all his cruelty to him, and named a child after him “Albus Severus Potter”. I just wish Fred ‘n’ Remus ‘n’ Tonks were still alive.
I shed a few tears for Hedwig and Dobby, and slight bit more for Fred, and cried pretty good when I heard Remus and Tonks were dead, and thus was stil crying at the reference to Colin….when Snape died, I had been dry eyed, but shed a few tears for him, even though I wasn’t quite sure yet if he was really as good as I had thought at the end of ‘Prince’, I was having doubts throughout ‘Hallows’ about his loyalties….and then, for some twisted reason, I was hoping against hope that, with less than a hundred pages to go, that I’d find out that Harry really was a Horcrux, and that ALL my theories would be correct, and then when i discovered he was, and Dumbledore said he’d have to let Voldy kill him, I started crying profusely. I was sobbing, and having a challenging time not dripping tears through my beautiful dragon face paint on my right cheek…it’s still there, nearly 48 hours and two showers later…I was so sad, didn’t really think there was any chance for Harry anymore, fully expected to be crying the entire rest of the book, but after about the time where Harry got killed, and I had to get up and go to the bathroom to wipe my nose, so I didn’t have snot dripping out of it, I ended up stopping crying. But, so sad….
Oh, yeah, my itsy bitsy speculation in one of my supporting reasons for Harry being a Horcrux, that he resembled Voldy, remeber I suggested that Harry might be related to him, and you all scoffed? I was actually right! wow, still can’t believe it. But what I don’t get is this, if Harry is related to Voldy, why is Tom Marvolo Riddle aka Voldy, “the last remaining ancestor/descendant of Salazar Slytherin.”? wouldn’t Harry be one too?
What was funny, was everytime something new was introduced, such as Snitch’s flesh memory, and Voldy’s name being a tracking device, I just kept thinking, ‘that is so absurd, come on, like that is really going to be the case?’ as though I was reading somebody bizarre fanfic, then I kept realising, ‘oh, wait, this is the real thing, this isn’t just some fanfic author’s crazy ideas, this really is true.’
Currently, this isn’t one of my favorite books in the series, but I think it will be much better upon rereading it.

I was shocked to find Dumbledore not as pure and brilliant and great as we were always led to believe, and I can’t believe the Hogshead barman is Aberforth, but, you know, it ‘Phoenix’ Harry did say the barman looked vaguely familiar. Also, y’know, we had even more questions answered then I thought: why the Bloody Baron is covered in blood, and why Voldy chose Albania. But I’m confused, I didn’t quite get why Harry was the rightful bearer of the Elder Wand? Or how draco ever was, since didn’t Harry say that?
Also, I never thought I’d like Dudley or Kreacher, but I do now, I really do…creepy, huh? And I’ve been horribly disillusioned about Dumbledore……
I just saw the 5th movie, I’m going to go over to the other Potter thread to rant about how it makes the other four look amazingly excellent and identical to the books, and how this’n isn’t even good even if it wasn’t based on a brilliant book.

-55 A lot of the deaths in the book were sudden shocks and unexpected, kind of like real life, that is, not built up to in a huge way…. I thought Snape died in a good fashion… meh.

Errr… since I went on vacation (and failed to tell all of you yet eh heh until now I guess…. I’ll be gone… well I’ll say that on teh randomness thread (and general announcement thread yeah)) I finished it aujourd’hui. I’m quite curious about how George has taken Fred’s death.
I really enjoyed all the ways previous books connected back to this one. I also really liked the chapter with Dumbledore and Harry. Especially how it shows that no one is completely good nor completely evil. Draco, Dudley and Kreacher have gotten better. Well, we just feel a bit sorry for Draco. Or maybe not. And I was right to trust Snape all along. Knowing all about Dumbledore increases my respect for him not decreases though. Yes, it was quite bad what he did but he feels very, very remorseful for it way more remorseful than Voldemort ever would have. Grindelwald showed remorse too, through not telling Voldemort more about the Elder wand. Oh and how it seemed like we (the readers) were taken on a “tour” like thing of the wizarding world.

45- I agree and dissagree about the epilogue. I liked the one that was there but I thought it could be augmented with little bits on other characters. What happened to Luuuuunnnnnnaaaa?

64: Harry discovered he was descended form one of the three brothers who originally owned the Deathly Hallows, the younger brother, Ignotus Peverell, who had the Invisibility Cloak. Voldemort was also descended from a Peverell, the one who owned the Resurrection stone (the black Horcrux ring, the one that he stole from the Gaunts, his father and/or uncle). Marvolo Gaunt, in one of the memories in B6, was very proud of being descended nto only from teh Peverells but also Slytherin…..So, they’re related, just very, very distantly.

If Rowling had done an epilogue soon after Voldy’s death, that would have wrapped it up better than the actual epilogue, which made me want to learn more about the characters introduced. So… James Potter is in his second year (age twelve), Albus in his first (eleven), and Lily will go the next year (ten). I couldn’t figure out Rose and Hugo Weasley’s ages. Ted Lupin is nineteen. Victorie Weasley (probably the daughter of Bill and Fleur) is presumably around Ted’s age, but still in Hogwarts, so I’m guessing she’s in sixth or seventh year. GAAAA!

The death that almost made me cry was Dobby, poor thing, he was so loyal. I was also REALLY upset when Fred died, that got to me. The very last chapter ‘Nineteen Years Later’ made me cry. You may say I am a wimp, but I dont care. The part that made me cry even harder was when Harry goes “Albus Severus” I was so happy he named his kid after snape!!!! Poor Snape, broken heart all his life, being teased, what a sad story, what a brave man.

AAAHHHH! That was awesome! I finished the book this morning but my internet died for a while because it decided to hate me today. I got the book yesterday around 3 PM and read until around midnight with a few breaks then this morning I read about 2 hours and finished. I was so mad that I couldn’t get on right when I finished though because the only person I could call who likes HP is my boyfriend but he hasn’t got it yet. I’m so happy Harry didn’t die! I would have been so depressed if he did.I’m glad he got to talk to Dumbledore too because it made me able to believe that Dumbledore wasn’t a jerk. The whole book I was siding with Harry thinking that Dumbledore should have told him more. Not everything but more than he did. Some of my predictions turned out right. I guessed that Harry was a Horcrux and that Voldy and Snape would die. I thought Harry would die and I guess he did for a while, or he thought he did.I had all my “who killed who” wrong though. I thought Ron or Hermoine would kill Snape and that Harry and Voldy would duel alone in the Forbidden Forest and simultaneously kill each other. I never saw it coming that Snape was more on the good side than he was on Voldy’s.Ah well. Now that that’s done I’m back to my boring old summer at least until next weekend when my boyfriend gets the book then I’ll talk to him about it and probably “forget” most of it because I’m always doing something else when he calls.

nodded looks like someone’s not really evil…he may actually just be decent with a horrid past. In the book, it didn’t sound like he was exactly chummy with Voldemort. *finds passage* *finds it* Malfoy’s gaunt, petrified face seemed branded on the inside of his eyes. Harry felt sickenedby what he had seen, by the use to which Draco was now being put by Voldemort. This regret may be why he’s delivering his son, Scorpio or Scorpius to the train instead of sitting in a cell at Azkaban. He and Harry may never be best pals, but at least they won’t try to kill each other at every chance they get. They’ll probably have a relationship like Sirius and Snape, not great, but they’ll cooporate.

I figured out why Malfoy, in the epilogue, doesn’t try to kill them or somethig- He’s in debt to Harry and Co. harry dragged him onto his broom to escape the fiendfyre, and Ron stunned that Death Eater whowas trying to killhim. What a wormtail situation! I like it. I really like the idea that there’s more to Draco than meets the eye.

Then a figure rose from the Slytherin table and he recognised Pansy Parkinson as she raised a shaking arm and screamed, “But he’s there! Potter’s there! Someone grab him!”
Befor eHarry could speak, there was a massive movement. The Gryffindors in front of him had risen and stood facing, not Harry, but the Slytherins. Then the Hufflepuffs stood, and, almost at the same moment, the Ravenclaws, all of them with their backs to Harry, all of them looking toward Pansy instead, and Harry, awestruck and overwhelmed, saw wands emerging everywhere, pulled from beneath cloaks and under sleeves.
“Thank you, Miss Parkinson,” said Proffessor McGonagall in a clipped voice. “You will leave the hall first with Mr. Filch. If the rest of your house could follow.”
Question 2- When Harry and Dumbledore are at the top of the tower, about to enter the door to go down, Draco comes through the door, Dumbledore paralizes Harry and Draco disarms Dumbledore. The wand flies into the air, and Dumbledore is unable to retrieve it. This was a duel, although a very short one. The winner of a duel becomes the master of the loser’s wand, and Draco just out dueled Dumbledore, becoming the master of the deathstick. Voldemort thought that it was Snape who had disarmed Dumbledore, and therefore thought that Snape was the master of the deathstick, making it neccesary for Snape to be killed in order for Voldemort to become the master of the wand, or so he thought. In truth, Voldemort obly needed to take the wand from Snape,as in a duel. Draco could not take Dumbledore’s wand, because then it would look like he killed Dumbledore, and the wand was buried with Dumbledore. Harry took Draco’s wand from him. As Ron ran to pull Hermione out of the wreckage, Harry took his chance, he leapt over anarmchair and wrestled the three wands fromDraco’s grip, pointed all three of them at the werewolf and yelled: “Stupefy!” One of the wands that Harry wrestled from Draco was Draco’s, the other two were Lestrange and Wormtail’s wands. Ron had taken Wormtail’s wand from Wormtail’s dead body, and had disarmed Lestrange’s wand with it. Ron was then master of Wormtail and Lestrange’s wand. Then, Ron and Harry were forced to drop their wands, and Draco picked them up. This didn’t make Draco the master of the wands- Ron was still that because Draco hadn’t actually taken them from Ron and Harry, who was useing Lestrange’s wand. If Draco had gone over to Ron, punched him in the face, and taken the wand, then Draco would be master of the wand. Harry wasn’t the master of Wormtail and Lestrange’s wands because when he took them from Draco, Draco wasn’t the master. Harry was never master of the deathstick.

(103) Question 1 – Thanks! I remember the passage about the Slytherins now. I was washing dishes while listening to it and must have had a momentary lapse of attention.
It was exciting when the members of all the other houses formed a protective circle around Harry and pulled out their wands. It’s too bad that none of the Slytherins decided to fight for their school, though. I’d been hoping that they’d prove they weren’t all bad. But even Draco, who seemed to be wavering earlier in the book, returned to villainy again as soon as he got the chance.
If I’d been in charge, I think I’d have disbanded Slytherin house and replaced it with a new, darkly heroic house named after Snape.

I think that the Slytherins all being bad is kind of . . . I don’t know, it seems like there ought to be a few good Slytherins, don’t you think? It just seems unnatural/unrealistic. I’m thinking about the writing, here, not the story, and it feels to me kind of lke making a character that is ALL good or ALL bad. That’s something to avoid.

I got it at midnight. Actually, since we were on the later line, i got it around 2:00 AM. Gagh. Got home, and started reading. I was about halfway through at 7:23, when I went to bed. I wasn’t really tired, but I firgured that I should really get a bit of sleep before my parental units woke up and found me still sitting on the couch immersed in my book…. I finished it the next day.
To describe it? AMAZING AND FABULOUS!!!!!!!! She is such and incredible author. I cried when Dobby died, when Tonks, Lupin and Fred died, and when Snape died and I found out what he really was and a few other times I was close to it. And that in it’s self is pretty weird, since I usually don’t cry during movies or books.
I can hardly beleive that the series is over. Poof. Gone. It’ll be so different to read them over now, when I know what’s going to happen, but some of the things will make a lot more sense.

(110) My only complaint about Snape is that JKR didn’t let him die fighting. With Dumbledore gone, he was probably the most brilliant wizard in the world after Voldemort. What a duel they could have had! I think it’s a shame that we didn’t get to see what he could do. That’s just one of many potentially great scenes in the book that happened either offstage or not at all.

First of all, to anyone who says “RAB=sirius’s brother i r rocket scientist”: come off it. It was painfully obvious.
Eh, the book was okay. I think she introduced too much stuff too late, so it felt like she was sort of cramming and making it up on the spot. Like the Hallows stuff…it just seemed weird to go, “oh lulz deathstick” halfway through Book 7. Also, the whole Dumbledore/Grindelwald thing (yes, that slash is supposed to be there, nyar) was rather odd. I mean, if they had this famous world-changing duel, shouldn’t Harry have heard about it before then?
I didn’t cry once during this one, which is odd, as I’ve cried at every single death scene since GoF. I don’t think JK was writing at her best here; it sort of read like “and then they broke into the ministry and then they broke into gringotts and then they broke into hogwarts and then people died lulz.” One of the things I like about the Harry Potter books is how good JK is at conveying Harry’s emotions; they seem very honest and teenager-ish. He has all these mood swings and does Stupid Teenager Things in the previous six books. Here he has one emotion: Brooding Heroic Wizard Angst.
Also, the epilogue is made of fail. <truthiness
I, working to make the epic fail of the epilogue slightly more bearable, predict that Draco married Luna and they had supar-blonde kids and tossed dangerous magical substances around the house. JK probably went the Neville/Luna route because that’s what fandom was predicting, though. Sigh. I still think she should’ve taken all the Harry/Luna stuff from OotP and run with it, but I would, as that’s my OTP.

for all you people who think that Rowling was a bit vague on the epilogue, here is a fragment of her interview with the today show that might satisfy you.
Rowling said her original epilogue was “a lot more detailed,†including the name of every child born to the Weasley clan in the past 19 years. (Victoire, who was snogging Teddy — Lupin and Tonks’ son — is Bill and Fleur’s eldest.)
“But it didn’t work very well as a piece of writing,†Rowling said. “It felt very much that I had crowbarred in every bit of information I could … In a novel you have to resist the urge to tell everything.â€
But now that the seventh and final novel is in the hands of her adoring public, Rowling no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter from her fans. And when 14 fans crowded around her in Edinburgh Castle in Scotland earlier this week as part of TODAY’s interview, Rowling was more than willing to share her thoughts about what Harry and his friends are up to now.
Harry, Ron and Hermione
We know that Harry marries Ginny and has three kids, essentially, as Rowling explains, creating the family and the peace and calm he never had as a child.
As for his occupation, Harry, along with Ron, is working at the Auror Department at the Ministry of Magic. After all these years, Harry is now the department head.
“Harry and Ron utterly revolutionized the Auror Department,†Rowling said. “They are now the experts. It doesn’t matter how old they are or what else they’ve done.â€
Meanwhile, Hermione, Ron’s wife, is “pretty high up†in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, despite laughing at the idea of becoming a lawyer in “Deathly Hallows.â€
“I would imagine that her brainpower and her knowledge of how the Dark Arts operate would really give her a sound grounding,†Rowling said.
Harry, Ron and Hermione don’t join the same Ministry of Magic they had been at odds with for years; they revolutionize it and the ministry evolves into a “really good place to be.â€
“They made a new world,†Rowling said.
The wizarding naturalist
Luna Lovegood, the eccentric Ravenclaw who was fascinated with Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Umgubular Slashkilters, continues to march to the beat of her own drum.
“I think that Luna is now traveling the world looking for various mad creatures,†Rowling said. “She’s a naturalist, whatever the wizarding equivalent of that is.â€
Luna comes to see the truth about her father, eventually acknowledging there are some creatures that don’t exist.
“But I do think that she’s so open-minded and just an incredible person that she probably would be uncovering things that no one’s ever seen before,†Rowling said.
Luna and Neville Longbottom?
It’s possible Luna has also found love with another member of the D.A.
When she was first asked about the possibility of Luna hooking up with Neville Longbottom several years ago, Rowling’s response was “Definitely not.†But as time passed and she watched her characters mature, Rowling started to “feel a bit of a pull†between the unlikely pair.
Ultimately, Rowling left the question of their relationship open at the end of the book because doing otherwise “felt too neat.â€
Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom: “The damage is done.â€
There is no chance, however, that Neville’s parents, who were tortured into madness by Bellatrix Lestrange, ever left St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies.
“I know people really wanted some hope for that, and I can quite see why because, in a way, what happens to Neville’s parents is even worse than what happened to Harry’s parents,†Rowling said. “The damage that is done, in some cases with very dark magic, is done permanently.â€
Rowling said Neville finds happiness in his grandmother’s acceptance of him as a gifted wizard and as the new herbology professor at Hogwarts.
The fate of Hogwarts
Nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the school for witchcraft and wizardry is led by an entirely new headmaster (“McGonagall was really getting on a bitâ€) as well as a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. That position is now as safe as the other teaching posts at Hogwarts, since Voldemort’s death broke the jinx that kept a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor from remaining for more than a year.
While Rowling didn’t clarify whether Harry, Ron and Hermione ever return to school to finish their seventh year, she did say she could see Harry popping up every now and again to give the “odd talk†on Defense Against the Dark Arts.
More details to come?
Rowling said she may eventually reveal more details in a Harry Potter encyclopedia, but even then, it will never be enough to satisfy the most ardent of her fans.
“I’m dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry’s great-great-grandparents,†she said. Not that she’s discouraging the Potter devotion!
“I love it,†she said. “I’m all for that.â€

I FINALLY got around to typing up all my questions:
1) On page 713, after Harry asks about the Hallows, Dumbledore says, “Can you forgive me? Can you forgive me for not trusting you? For not telling you? Harry, I only feared that you would fail as I had failed. I only dreaded that you would make my mistakes.â€
Why did Dumbledore decide to not tell Harry about the Hallows, yet leave the trio those things in the will so they could find them?

2) How does the tunnel to the Room of Requirement work anyway? I get that it’s behind Ariana’s portrait, but how did Ariana give the people inside the Room any sort of message if she doesn’t have another portrait in there? And when Neville came through the tunnel, why did he show up in the painting? (This reminded me of “scadooâ€-ing in Blue’s Clues :P)

3) How does Mad-Eye’s curse keep Snape out of Grimmauld Place at all? Are the creepy voice, Tongue-Tying Curse, and fake Dumbledore corpse supposed to, um… scare him away? (described on pages 170-1)

4) The whole time the trio had the locket in their possession, they all seemed to think it was very important that it must be worn. Why was this? Couldn’t they just keep it in the bag Harry got from Hagrid? Although at one point JKR mentions that the locket bumps against the leather pouch when Harry is wearing both, so maybe there’s some really obvious reason that I’m missing.

5) What is the creature under the chair when Harry talks to Dumbledore? It is mentioned and described many times (pages 706-722), yet we never find out what it is.

I just received an e-mail from my mom that says that Jo Rowling says that Luna travelled the world as a naturalist(the kind studying nature, not the nudist kind) and married Newt Scamander’s grandson….but that contradicts the thing she said about Luna probably marrying Neville….I’m confuzzled.

This book was such a disappointment
Flaw 1 The cover sucks. The American version is the ugly shade of orange. In the Brittish version they are all making ridiculous faces.
Flaw 2. Everyone screws up. The Order uses a complete coward as a Harry double when they move him. Harry walks out of his protected bubble after a mysterious doe because he has a good feeling about it and then jumps into a lake. In Godrick’s Hollow they follow the ersatz BB into her home without even thinking twice. H, H and R aren’t careful at all when the walk into Xeno Lovegood’s. You would think after 6 books they would learn that they are pretty much constantly in great danger and pretty much everything could be a trap.
Flaw 3. She loses momentum. H, H, and R are meandering around the country with very little happening (except of course, them getting frustrated and toutchy) for pages and pages. This was also a big problem with the sixth book in general. The characters spent much of their time making out, and hardly fought Voldemort at all.
Flaw 4. I think someone said this already, but the whole “Dumbledoor has a past†thing was kind of sudden and could have been set up a little more in previous books. And the fact that Harry has so little faith as to believe some of the slander is rather annoying and serves little purpose.
Flaw 5. JK set up Voldemort’s army with a number of weaknesses then did not exploit them. Voldemort’s death eaters were obviously quite powerful witches and wizards, but Voldemort put way too much pressure on them. They compete among themselves too much. On a couple of occasions his army doesn’t act appropriately when something goes wrong only to hide the fact that something did go wrong. But then, come the climax, none of this plays a role. (Note: I am not back seat writing. JK set this up herself and she ought to have followed through on it). Another weakness of Voldemort is that he sees himself as above other magical creatures such as house elves and gobliins. The good guys have been set up to recruit an army of house elves with powerful magic SINCE BOOK 2. They also could have reconciled with the Goblins and righted some wrongs because these people are THE GOOD GUYS. The last battle ends up being just a lot of people throwing spells at one another. It comes off as if the 15 person Order and some buddies has just so much skill that they can hold off the obviously bigger stronger force of the death eaters aided by the ministry. Yeah, right.
Flaw 6. Harry grows up and has three kids named James, Lilly, and Albus. I mean, JAMES, LILLY AND ALBUS! Leave the book some dignity

What’s the matter with orange? I love orange! I also loved the book. I agree it has flaws but they don’t matter to me because I found the experience of reading it so enjoyable. I’m SO grateful to J.K. Rowling for being so gentle. (I was expecting her to kill off way more people. I was sure Harry and either Ron or Hermione would die.) And I’m grateful to her for the unexpected plot twists. I loved that Snape turned out to be soooo good. And that when Snape killed Dumbledore they both knew he only had less than a year to live anyhow. And I thought it was amazing when Harry came back to life. I really expected him to die.

I did not like the epilogue much. And no Sirius! I totally thought that she was going to revisit that! But other than that, it was good. Very good.My fav, but I still heart the 4th one. i just re read the book and i feel much better about it. i accidentally missed some of the stuff the first time around. i STILL cried in the chapter before harry “dies”….. i was reading it at 1:00 in the morning and i had one hand frimly clamped over my mouth to stop any sobs from getting out. I think Luna is my favorite character, she is so different, and out there, and doesnt care really what people think.
I liked the cover, I thought it was quite pretty.
When my friend and I met eachother to the Harry Potter book at our local bookstore, she dressed up as Umbridge, and it was great!!! We also saw many Harry Potters, a Slytherin, AND *drumrool* a Bellatrix!!! It was really cool, her hair was like, all up in the air like she was electricuted, and her face was really white, it was awesome!!!! I dressed up as Luna, with a white blouse, a black V neck sweater, a black pleated skirt, black shoes, blue knee high socks, a blue tie, various bracelets on my arms of all different colors, a necklace with a cork on it, a necklace with a moon on it, earrings (I attempted to make) that looked more like carrots than radishes, and these feathery sticks in my hair that you use to put your hair in a bun. Oh!!! And I made a Quibbler!!! I won the costume contest and got a HP T-shirt, bag that looks like the book, and an ornament. It was cool!!! Doesnt really fit in with the thread much, but oh well. My other friends died her hair pink to be Tonks, it was really cool, but it was like, as hard as a rock! I think Bellatrix should have won, or Umbridge!!!!
I wish she had told us what happened to the rest of the Weasleys…..but I was soooooo releived that Ron and Hermione FINALLY got together!!!! I practically died of exaustion when I finally got to the part where she like….lunges for him! *sigh of relief*
One of my other favorite parts was when the house elfs all came out with forks and knifes going at the deatheaters, and Kreature was like ‘fight, fight, fight!’. That was good.

188- I was at summer camp in Hudson, OH when the book came out. Hudson is officially insane – the entire city gets involved for harry potter releases. All of the stores decorated their windows and had special Harry Potter things – the restaurants were selling “Voldemort burgers” etc, and had changed their names to things like “Hogwarts Kitchen.” The bars were selling butterbeer, the plants shop was selling venus fly traps, etc. The music store had a giant picture of harry playing the guitar in the window. The bank had turned into Gringotts, complete with a picture of goblins banking. There was a special Harry Potter minatures exhibit with like doll houses of Hogwarts and stuff (and a 7″ tree on sale for $50, but that’s beside the point). There was a Madame Malkin’s. A #12 Grimmauld Place. Dervish and Banges, with a sign in the window that said, “Voldie.. I quit. Love, RAB”. “Hogwarts Pizza.” And that was just the places.
There was Dumbledore, walking around. A group of four (sexy) Malfoys. Snape, looking exactly like the one in the movie. Tons and tons of Hermiones and Harrys and Rons. An entire family of Weasleys. At least two Tonks. Several Hagrids. My friend and I were menaced by a dementor. The Gray Lady was there. Various people in renaissance garb were there. At least two “Free Tibet” guys were there. Tons of witches/wizards-in-training. There was a parade, with a drum line, witches and wizards on stilts, Voldemort surrounded by Death Eaters (everyone started clapping and cheering when they saw him) and so on. It was really cool.

I think it’s thouroughly plausible that voldemorts soul died and not harrys. that may be me being biased because I did somethign similar to one of my characters. my character “died” from ilness and too many wounds in vital places and then “came back from the grave”. but I maintain that my character never actualy died her body just shut down until it could heal or something….. it’s weird, majic and stuff and i don’t really understand it myself i just didn’t want to end my series with a dead protaganist. but i needed this other character to win this battle and….. ok i’ll stop my rant.

No, Harry’s death scene was totally reminiscent of Jesus! There were some obvious differences but there is clearly a connection. Jo Rowling even said, after publication, when she was asked what she was surprised that no one had asked her previously, that if someone had asked about her religion that became relevant. She practically admitted that the scene was rooted in Christianity (although it in no way really promotes religion).

Okay, the part where he died, I had to read that part over and over agian. My fave sentance is when she said:
“Tom Riddle hit the floor with mundane finality.”
That kind of gave me a vision of Voldermort as a kid in book six. I think it would have been much better if all the magical transformations he had given himself had fell away, leaving a fifty year old man, who was still tall and had a handsome pointed face. That would have been more interesting and un-expected.
I SO can’t wait for movie 6 and 7 to come out. Those are the most action packed books, they should have very interesting special effects…

First, Harry is a Horcrux because of what Dumbledore said (technically, it’s because of his mother’s love). When V tried to kill Harry, his mother’s love acted as a shield, rebounding the curse onto V. His soul was blown apart, part of it latched onto Harry, he’s a Horcrux.

Second, Snape is not the true master because he arranged Dumbledore’s murder with Dumbledore. And since Snape wasn’t the true master, Vold. never conquered the true master. When Draco disarmed Dumbledore at the end of book 6, Dumbledore didn’t have the Elder Wand, but Draco caught it in essence. Then, when Harry disarmed Draco at his dad’s mansion, he caught the Elder Wand in essence. So he was the true master for almost half the book without even knowing about it! That’s also probably why it was strong enough to repair the phoenix feather wand.

Third, NO, HE DIDN’T! We don’t know when he got the wand – probably before the series started. But he gave the cloak to Harry in book 1, and he got the ring, which had the stone, somewhere between books 5 and 6.

I love Bellatrix. I wouldn’t if she was a real person, she’s a complete b…ucket of mushrooms, but you have to admit she’s got style as a character. okay, about fred and george they were two of my favrit charcters but the thing is they weren’t realistic twins. i’m a twin a nd all the other twins i know aren’t that close and similar in personality. i mean come on, if JKR didn’t mention which twin was speaking i wouldn’t be able to tell just by their dialogue. i mean, twins can be close but they always have their own personality.

I liked Snape too! I have always been a “strong supporter” of the Snape-is-good theory, and I was very happy to find out that I was right! I had a few theories about the end of the book, but I liked the fact that Jo introduced the Hallows which made it almost impossible for someone to predict the ending.

211- Me too. Dobby’s death made me cry. Which is actually saying quite a lot, considering I’ve cried over a book about twice in my life. Fred and Hedwig’s deaths were sad too, but they were’nt really weepy material for me. More like “NO! Don’t die!! Noooo!!…” etc.

I read the books, yes. But they were all the same(at least the first four were) as that guy in muse who wrote the short hp stories pointed out. I don’t like the unecessary killing ethier. Why did the house elf, the owl, Fred, and the werewolf die? Did it advance the plot? NO…. I also don’t like how stuipid Harry is. He sees something suspicious, doesn’t tell anyone, and gets in trouble, and someone dies. Basic hp plot. The list goes on…
252-They died because they would have if the Harry Potter series were actually real. I doubt the real Bellatrix Lestrange would be any less compassionate than she is in the books and not throw a knife at anyone she thinks isn’t superior to her.

274 – I love the course of the story, and I don’t know how things would have turned out differently if I saved any of them. The characters who died that I loved/miss the most are probably Fred and Dobby (though there are so many I loved), but I don’t know if that means I would save them. If I could have and was in the story the whole time, I probably would have used my life-saving thing on Dobby, simply because he died first. But I don’t really know if I would save anyone, especially since I might have used the extra life that I had on Hedwig – after all, she was first.
In pretty much any game that I play, I save the wild cards and things like that until the end of the game, because I always think that I could use them for a better thing later. If, at the end of the book, I got to choose who I would save, I would give the life to another person for them to choose, because it would be too much pressure. If I saved Dobby, I would hate myself for the rest of my life because I didn’t save, say, Fred. If I saved Fred, I would still miss Dobby, and there would always be times where I would be mad at myself for not saving Dobby. It would be impossible for me, so I’d let someone else choose.
286 – To be honest, I think I would leave Harry dead after his sacrifice-type thing. I think it’s too mushy and cliche to have the hero come back to life, especially after I had been expecting him to die at the end of the book since before I even started reading Deathly Hallows.
