in December 3rd, 2005 @ 16:01My mother is a chef, so I have interesting taste. As of now she is writing and testing popcorn recipes for the Popcorn Advisory Board. Yes, Virginia, there really is a Popcorn Advisory Board. I have had bright blue candy popcorn in the shape of a bowl, popcorn with tilapia (fish), white chocolate popcorn, caramel popcorn, and more things that lurk menacingly in the bottom of my conscience.
I’m not a comfort food person. Mine ultimate favorite dish as of now is sashimi, or really tempura. Tempura involves ice, hot oil, vegetables, shrimp, and enough calories to render a self-respecting cardiologist speechless. It is, however, delicious. I also adore mangoes, dark chocolate (flavonoids! antioxidiants! hand it over and no one gets hurt!) mushrooms, and a reasonable amount of Italian food. Japanese is pure heaven, Chinese is close, Thai is awesome, Indian makes me scream in delight, and American, surprisingly, I hate. I’m not a big burger person. What do Musers eat for breakfast? I dislike breakfast food and usually have leftovers (cold pizza is the best) or a soft-boiled egg. We have a German eggtimer you put in the pot along with the eggs that sings when its done.
I absolutely DETEST traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas food. I’ve always been of the ethnic-take-out group, but oh well. I guess its better if you have traditions. Winter makes me depressed. No light, snow (I live in America’s Gallbladder, OK, the US Midwest), cold, and no leaves. Snow reminds me of dandruff. I’ve rambled too long, haven’t I?

in December 3rd, 2005 @ 16:29Uncle Paul’s going to give you his secret recipe. If you’re vegetarian, look away now.
It’s a yummy Black Country stew, and it’s easy. Basic method – chop lots of stuff, throw it in a pot and boil it.
Get a BIG saucepan. Preferably a catering thing that won’t fit properly on the cooker. No point in making small quantities. It will freeze nicely if you don’t scoff the lot straight away.
Chop a few onions. Fry them in oil in the bottom of the pan until they go soft and mushy.
Chuck in lots of chopped carrots (big chunks, please), and a couple of chopped parsnips (I think you call them Rutabagas, for some nonsensical reason). You can bung in some cabbage too if you like. Fill with water to the top of the veg and crumble in a couple of stock cubes. Bring to the boil.
Chop up some meat and add that too. And here’s the secret. More or less anything will work in this recipe – dead pig, dead cow, dead bird, whatever.Dead sheep is particularly good. But if you want it to be really special, use pig’s tails. You’ll have to ask your local butcher for them, because they normally go for dog food or cheap sausages, but they’re uttelry delicious in this. If you can get hold of them, they’ll probably be dirt cheap, so use lots. Chop them roughly, and bung them in the pot with all the rest. Give it a stir and simmer for about an hour.
Now add a few chopped potatoes and simmer for another hour or so. Stir it until the spuds break up and thicken it. You need to add quite a lot of spud to get this to work. Too little, and you end up with soup, but it’s OK. Ideally, you should end up with half the spuds still chunky, and the other half disappeared into the swamp.
Now, ideally, switch off, allow to cool overnight, and boil it up for eating the next day. It blends everyhing and improves the flavour. But who has that sort of discipline?

in December 3rd, 2005 @ 18:21I love apple pie, cauliflower, VANILLA ICE CREAM *stares off into the distance and drools*, and a good cup of tea. Nothing like it. WIth 1 level teaspoon of sugar, not honey, and no milk. Milk spoils the experience. Green tea is good with a bit of lemon. Green tea tastes horrible at first but it grows on you, and gets rid of those nasty free radicals, which I get from rice pudding.

in December 3rd, 2005 @ 21:30I like a lot of stuff, but I’m afraid to mention most of it lest Axa get mad at me. I do love hamburgers, and roast. I had a really awesome roast for supper. I love deer meat passionately, and I don’t think I could live without it. I know the deer aren’t tortured, since my dad and brothers kill it themselves. The last moments of the deer’s life were not ones of agony, but ones of, “hey, what was that sound?”
I also like non-meat items. I’m a big fan of fried okra. Most of y’all have probably never had it, but it’s deep fat fried, and anything that’s deep fat fried is delicious. Okra is no exception.

I like some meat, I admit, but I’m can’t eat it so much these days. As in, I’m physically unable. Sigh. I adore potatos, though.
My mom is always talking about some odd thing or another, and she’s told me what okra is a million times, though Ialways forget. XD

I was just saying that, even if I felt guilty about eating other kinds of meat, I wouldn’t feel guitly about the deer, since I know for a fact that it was killed quickly and painlessly. And it’s so delicious, I think I would die without it. My mom makes everyhting out of deer meat, when we have full freezer. My cousin is always upset about it, until she tries the food. She always going “oh, but the poor deer, why did he have to die, that’s so sad” and then she tries a bite and she ends up eating more anyone else.

I like chicken soup. And I also like pretty much anything with chocolate in it. And I love latkes. And I had deer meat once in about second grade or so and it was gross. I didn’t like it. And really, Pringles potato chips aren’t really that good, despite the fancy containers and stuff- it’s just basically like eating regurgitated potato. The regurgitated wood pencils aren’t that good either..

I don’t really like chicken, unless it is baked wth a layer of potatos, peppers, and onions like my mom makes it. yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum. And my dad makes the best omlettes and hash browns in the world.

I want to relate a classic random story about Zyviva: last year I went over to her house to study, and after lunch we took a break and went for a walk in the woods behind her house. There is a creek about a half acre from her house, and it is cursed. More about that later. Anyway, this was midwinter and the ground was frozen mud and the creek was frozen over. I was standing on the bank looking down, and then… the edge gave way. I fell right in, and started to sink. I tried to climb out but unfortunately the slope was steep and covored with ice. Well, Zyviva was standing on a small island you can reach by a tree trunk bridge, and I would like to say that she ran right back and pulled me out, and everything was fine. Unfortunately, that would be a downright lie. What she did do was stand around chortling for about forever while I kept on sinking, and then, still cracking up, she pulled me out. Ever since then I have never been able to go within fifteen feet of that creek without falling in, probably because I was always wearing sneakers when I was there. I usually go outside barefoot, giving me awful calluses and a better grip on slippery rock. Next time I’ll take off my shoes.

After you’ve finished gagging, imagine, if your stomach can still stand it, multiplying the taste by three. That would be Vegemite’s approximate flavour.

Choklit is good, but my favorite actuall meal is Phad Tai, an asian noodle dish with peanuts, cilantro, sauce, and shrimp.Yummmm. I also like sushi, and put salad dressing on my potatoes, salad(obviously), corn, rice, etc. etc. However, collard greens and mustard greens are pure evil.Evil, evil, evil.
Evil. Also, I think that french fatty goose liver is really inhumane and cruel. I do not remember the name, and do not want to embarres myself by trying to spell it.

And I had this little treacle cake in a can and to describe the taste, take 3 cups of corn syrup and dissolve 3 cups of sugar in it. Cook to consistency of slime and saturate a perfectly good cake with it. Enjoy!But I think British chips are WAY better than our excuse for chips.
To be even more random, I have a really good “recipes for dummies” thingy for popcorn. Cook some unbuttered, unsalted popcorn, and then put melted butter and sugar on it. SOOOO Gooood!

I don’t think all British food is bad at all. Just steak and kidney pie. I’ve only spent a week or so in England, though, so I’m no expert.
I did have some really good food there. Tasty little cakes and sandwiches at tea time…scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam… Yum!
Clotted cream tastes like a mishmash of butter and whipped cream and a touch of sour cream.

in December 7th, 2005 @ 15:07Speaking about bad fod, school food is (usually) terrible. In my old school, this person once took a bite of this hamburger, then opened it up to put katchup on it. There was a large, grub-worm-like object, moving around on the meat. When he asked the cafeteria attendant if he could recieve a refund, she told him it was fat, and he should just eat it. Ewwwwww! The Cohealtecon (i believe thats how you spell it)native Americans left fish out in the open for days, then ate it when it was full of maggots. Not because of strande medicinal/ religous purpouses, but because it tasted good. It must have been one of those “aquired tastes”.

I like bacon in stuff, chicken (when not at skool), cherries, strawberries, starfruit, kiwis, Chinese broccoli, salt, sugar, and soda. (the three s’s)
And, of course, BANANANANANANANANANANANAS!!! Note extra na’s, as in that annoying Beatles song whose name secapes me at the moment.

I’ve never had the dubious pleasure of consuming a hot pocket. I will jump at the chance, anyway. I usually hate nuked food, though. Just to warn you. And McDonalds? HOW CAN YOU EAT MCDONALDS AND NOT HAVE AN OVERWHELMING SENSE OF GUILT AND LOSS OF CULTURED AND POLITE EXTERIOR, MG? HOW CONSCIENTIOUS ARE YOU, ANYWAY? Go sit in a corner and read Fast Food Nation with the APATHETIC cap on your head. McDonalds is a shame and a travesty to America. It’s one of the roots of Evil. And I’m not talking about the Jungian tree. Besides the health issues, which I won’t go into, the point is that the wages are terrible, the conditions are worse, and the whole thing makes my blood pressure go alarmingly up. OK? So do me a favor and think of the poor ethnic minorities next time you want fries with that.
Desolez. That was unfair of me, but someone HAD to say that and nobody else would have. And you SHOULD feel bad.

Ha, just kidding. I’m feeling slightly hyperactive myselft today. I wish I could get out of this habit of… Writing “non-randomly”, but unfortunately, I know nought how to do so.
Anyhow, just in case you are wondering, I like seafood (and one occasionally gets the “EWWW” when mentioning this)… Hmmm, maybe except for shrimp, I dislike eating those at times. I like… potatoes and fruit and coconuts and applesauce and cheese and pizza and tomatoes and… and… Well, the list goes on.
Oh yes, I am new to this, so here is a warm and friendly shout out to my fellow Musers.

I will just disard all pretense and admit that shocking fact), the health concerns are minimal if you only eat it on occasion, and the wages and conditions are legal. If it wasn’t okay, safe, and humane, they wouldn’t be allowed to do it. Just because some people give their employies more money doesn’t mean McDonald’s is giving them too little.

in December 9th, 2005 @ 09:28Has anyone tasted white chocolate ice cream? THAT IS MY FAVORITE TYPE! There is this place called “Amy’s Ice cream” I love that place! They serve every tye of ice cream that I have heard of (except for garlic, plum, and green tea). They can crush any type of candy/nut/many types of cookies into the ice cream! After a while, the white chocolate ends up tasting like vanilla, because I get a head freeze. There are only about of five of those resturaunts in the intire world, and are all located in Texas. Ice cream!!! May pi live forever 3.14159! It makes math more interesting.

in December 13th, 2005 @ 16:33I only like mashed pumpkin guts to feel when carving out a pumpkin, not to eat. (Unless they have cinnimon and sugar on them, or if they are baked in a 3.14159). Everything tastes better with cinnimon and sugar on them. And nutmeg or cloves. Yum. Spices. Have you noticed that, after a while, banana bread, zucchini bread, and sweet potato bread tasted the same. Same spices, really.

I once grew a zucchini plant in my garden, but it became very annoying. That plant produced about two zucchinis per day. My family had many loaves of zucchini bread, and was giving extras away to relatives.

Old Lady Fatkins’s Sugary Fudgy-Maple Slopcakes
Ingredients: sugar, maple syrup, melted fudge, honey, melted choklit, jimmies, flour, fat
Instructions: Mix everything together except the jimmies. Deep-fat fry on a griddle until made into crunchy cakes. Pour extra maple syrup on top and finish off with the jimmies.
So it’s basically a piece of sugar, with flour.
Right now I want sushi. Very much.
