I continually wear a set of awesome chocolate brown pants. Because they are flalablamous.

I’m also thinking of dying my hair two colors for fun this year, anyone have a thought about that?

I have bad memories of the word “fantabulous”… that was how Spam described how her friends described her singing voice… In fact, I hadn’t actaully been insulting her singing at all (not that it didn’t deserve insulting) but insulting mine… Speaking of Spam and getting back to the subject of fashion, who here thinks those suede boots are cool? My excuse for wearing them is that in the winter my sneakers turn super cold no matter where I wear them, prompting frostbite.

Alright, so you all know my neon orange hat from the Kokon? If not, just search “Amherst” and scroll down for the pics.
The problem with my hat, is as stylin’ as it is, there are no hats in school. (Boo!)
But…
Has anyone ever heard of a rule saying, “No capes in school?
I thought not.
SO, what I need, it to find a cape like that one that Murdoc from the Gorillaz wears. Any ideas?

Did not expect this on MuseBlog, but okay.

I have a couple notes filled with dresses and outfits I’ve designed. Dunno if they’re any good, but hey.

I’m kind of into fashion. I have my favorite designers and I choose my outfits carefully. A couple people I get style advice from: Doe Deer (Lime Crime makeup), Gala Darling, WhatStyleIsToNikel (on YouTube), and of course all the makeup people.

I don’t really have a specific style. Like, now I’m in fishnets and combat boots wearing black lipstick, but yesterday I was wearing a bright pink lipstick, neon V-Neck zebra print shirt and flare jeans. So I guess they’d both be a bit eighties. I like eighties style.

Also, top hats and capes and corsets. Yes.

I have always wanted to try on a corset, to see if I look any good in it, and also to see if I could breathe in it. (I doubt either will be true.) Top hats are amazing.

They are curious items indeed. Breathing depends on how tightly you lace them. Movement is a bit awkward, in any case. I found two quite old ones in junk shops at different times. One of them I embellished with some odd bits of costume jewelry (insects or scorpions, if I recall correctly) and used for a wall decoration. Other wall decor included an assortment of hats dating from 1890s through the 1940s or so.

Corsets are fun. Breathing is easier depending on how you lace them, as Rebecca says, and also I think on what style of corset they are — the ones that just go around your waist or below your bust look more comfortable than the full-chest ones. I’ve only ever tried the full-chest type, and yes, movement is hard — you really can’t bend over. But they’re fun anyway.

I like casual clothes. I guess I’d say my style is any kind of jeans, a baggy t-shirt, and a zip-up sweater (I’ve got a Yellowstone brown one, a ****** Symphony blue-green one, and a ******* Youth Ballet black one.) In the winter, it’s basically anything that’s warm. And I like stripes in the winter. But I don’t like stripes in the summer.

Oh yay!

Everyone who says/has said/is going to say “Fashion on MB? What has this world come to?”, I would like you to know that it’s NOT THAT WEIRD. Fashion is an amazing art form and you can care about clothes as well as theater and science and other wonderful things. Fashion is as Muserly as anything else. Thank you.

So, to go on to actually talking about clothes… where to begin? I like to wear…oh, tons of things. Today I am wearing a basic brown tee shirt over an olive green dress, neutral knee pants, striped knee socks, an orange-ish-brown leather belt, and black ankle boots. I did have a lot jewelry on in an attempt to go semi-piratical, but I took it off for the dance workshop and never put it back on. Yesterday I wore a very full gathered red skirt, black socks, a black shirt, black boots, and a black-and-red-and-white scarf. Sometimes I wear jeans and a cute t-shirt, sometimes I wear Gunne Sax dresses. I’m all over the board.

H’mm. I am the only one in my school who can pull off my look. Large, brightly colored socks and drawn on SNEAKERS (not Converse or Vans or whatever), wear long skirts, and can clash and make it look good.

As for my fashion…I don’t really have it. I have STYLE, but that’s a completely different thing altogether. My style is kind of…err…I don’t know. I get most of my clothes from Old Navy, which is nice because most of the kids in my grade don’t get their clothes from Old Navy, which means that I usually don’t look like everyone else. Sorry, that probably doesn’t make much sense, but hopefully enough sense for my fellow MBers to decipher. The most popular clothing stores in my grade are Aero, Abercrombie (God forbid!) and Limited Too/now known as Justice I believe. All of those places, except maybe Aero, make me throw up. Aero is okay, but still not great.

Even though I wouldn’t walk outside with just a paper bag, I usually dress for a mixture of 80% comfort and 20% style. I wear sweats and sweatshirts on the weekends, (Oh yeah, and my soccer gear – I practically live in my soccer gear!) and the only reason why I don’t wear them to school is because the dress code doesn’t allow it. Our dress code is super strict.

My school’s dress code is pretty lax. They basically draw the line at gang insignias (sp?) and nudity.

I’m a pretty t-shirt and jeans type of person, but I really want to do an overhaul of my wardrobe (most of which is from grade eight…. so three years ago) and make it more blouses and skirts. I don’t have enough skirts, but I have a great pattern that I got at half price. I love ridiculous blouses. They are just really interesting to me. I also love ties. I really, really wish I could wear hats. I just don’t seem to have the right confidence to wear them.

My favorite outfit in my wardrobe is black and red over the knee socks, with my black heels, black gothic skirt (with spidery lace and ribbons) and my Scary go Round mostly haunted shirt (I put the design part onto a black t-shirt and did some beading around it so it’s kind of different).

My favorite shirt is a red satin cowboy shirt with lots of embroidering on the collar. My second favorite is a blouse. It’s a cream and rather translucent, but it has brown flowers all up the sleeves and on the collar.

You’re lucky that you don’t have a strict dress code. It can be a killer finding clothes that fit into the rules, which don’t allow for much leg room at my school. The teachers are pretty strict when it comes to writing people up for violations too, so that doesn’t help much either. We can’t wear jeans, hoods, or anything with logos, which pretty much sums up my all of my favorite outfits. There are more rules, although I’m not going to list them all now for the sake of time and space.

My school isn’t that strict with the dress code, but this year our handbook came with helpful illustrations (i.e. stick figures with captions like ‘this skirt is too short’), so I suppose people are violating it anyway.

Ooh, cool. I pride myself on wearing clothes that no one else wears. I hate fads. Right now I am wearing terribly comfy black, bell-bottom jeans, a turquoise Yellow Submarine shirt, and a white and gray sweatshirt with pretty nature-inspired graphics. I also wear a ton of jewelry nearly every day (currently a silver locket ((empty)) with an “E” engraved on it, yellow peace symbol earrings, and a white and silver peace symbol watch). I think I am the only person in my grade who wears rings. I have a silver vintage Girl Scout ring (heirloom) and a a silver band with Kokopellis engraved on it that I wear every day.

2– I wore a black cape to my fifth grade graduation ceremony. I took it off for the “diploma” part, though.

3.1.2–Top hats are fabulous! I once had a top hat from a magic kit when I was in third grade…I wore it everywhere. Now it’s too small. Anyways, I love hats. I’m wearing a brown felt fedora right now.

Hahaha. Today I wore sweatpants over a pair of loose athletic shorts, a loose shirt that I can’t even remember the color of because I had on a nice big Columbia College sweatshirt over it. I don’t really have anything to dress nice for. I did the other years, but then it’s just disintegrated. Also my school is constantly freezing.

Today at study hall, we discussed the difference in what I/my group was wearing as opposed to D, this guy at the table near us (pretty nice really, we exchange banter); on tuesday his outfit cost over a thousand dollars–shirt(85), jeans(70?100?), belt (50), shoes (120), class ring(500), jacket(a looot), ect. Mine today was about… $30, plus my sandals which are like 50 but I wear them until they break which is every 5 years or so.

When I feel like dressing nicer for some odd reason it’s usually jeans and a plain-colored or patterned fitted shirt, occasionally if I feel it’s too low cut with a tank top under. This is maybe once a week at most, more like once every few. XD

I do like costumes though. Later I’ll have to explain the one I’m designing for senior night.

I consider who I appear to be in public a character, hence, I always dress the part. The only time I’ll be caught with an outfit that isn’t thought out with the correct accessories is when I wake up, like, two minutes before school starts. Or at night. Or in the shower. So, yeah.

Maybe that’s superficial, but I like picking out clothes and choosing a different makeup look every day. It’s an art form, in my opinon. It kind of bothers me when people don’t think about their clothes. Your body is a canvas, so respect it by making sure it looks nice!

Currently wearing: a stretchy sweater-matereal V-necked grey shirt, black skninny jeans with a grey wash and ripped knees with zippers down the sides, a razor blade bracelet, a spiderweb necklace and a chain choker. Brown lipstick and cat eye makeup.

I wish I could actually dress up for school sometimes. I have this black shawl and longish black skirt, and I could wear it with a V-neck black shirt and high socks and pumps, and be some sort of… I don’t know what, but it looks cool. Sometimes I walk around my house like that.

Designers- Does anyone like Alexander McQueen? I love the name, I love the stuff, I HATE THE PRICES

This is really boring but anyway…

Today I wore plain khakis and my pink polo shirt with my pie necklace. Yes, I did say pie necklace. It was given to me as a gift years ago but I just recently dug it out of the Pit of Doom (aka my closet) and decided to wear it today in honor of MB. Happy times.

The other day I found some killer high heels. My mom didn’t let me get them (Waaaaaaaaaay too expensive!) but they were so awesomely awesome I probably would have used up all my allowance on them had my mom not stopped me first. They were bright silver and probably made me look like such a s*** but still….awesome.

My style is sort of punk-ish but not really punk, if you know what I mean. (I don’t.) And I wear glitter eyeliner.
I have a pi pin (pi as in the mathematical constant) which I love but I’m afraid to wear is because I’m sure I’ll forget to take it off my shirt (it’s very small) and it’ll get lost in the wash. However on weekends (my evil school doesn’t allow pins) I do wear my “What part of Thou Shalt Not Kill didn’t you understand?? -God” pin, which I picked up at UU.

3.1.1- We use costumes as decor also! Hanging in the window above our kitchen table is a hanger containing a green tulle skirt and an old shirt with a cool picture on it (won’t go into any more detail, it’s where my mum grew up). In the studio we have a really old light blue beaded dress, a fountain of black tulle, and a an ancient purple plaid umbrella with the most lovely blue translucent handle.

19- Ooh, Anthropologie’s nice. I went into Anthropologie once, it was soooooo expensive.

I wear t-shirts. The ratio of time that I’m in band t-shirts compared to other random ones that I like has gone up by quite a lot over the last year or two. Concerts yay.

Jeans all year, although I actually got some shorts this summer so I wore those. And skirts for contra dancing, and I wore one to school yesterday. re:19 â€“ I found pockets in my skirt in English class.

Long hair, too. Basically metalhead, but I don’t confine myself to it (hair is tied up/braided when it’s too hot or I feel like it, respectively, and I have non-band shirts, and skirts.) My hair looks best down, imo.

Yesterday I had a dark grey Primordial shirt that is awesome, a red skirt with orange designs (and pockets, as was previously mentioned ) and hair down. It looked rather impressive reflected in the glass doors, actually.

Wow, I never would’ve thought I’d post on something like this. *shrugs*

17- How old are you? I’m not really a huge fan of silver shoes, but when paired with the right outifit they work splendidly.

Does anyone else sew? I love to sew. Right now I’m making a purple corduroy jacket. It’s sort of military style, I guess. I would be constructing it right now… but I can’t find the fusable interfacing.

I’m 12, which in my mom’s opinion is too young to wear high heels. I mean, I can wear small heels without too much pain, but anything too high and I fall flat on my face. I’m pretty clumsy. I have a really nice pair of silver ballet flats, but usually I’m not a huge fan of silver shoes either. These ones were really nice though!!

I, like your mom, feel that twelve is too young for heels. Perhaps a low, sturdy heel in a sensible style, but nothing radical. (Thank goodness for being ~~fifteen~~ almost sixteen) There are so many nice falts out there, though. They are far more practicl anyways. I had a really cute pair of black flats, but they broke. Flats are great because they are so versatile. They can be dressy or casual. Silver flats always look great.

I don’t think there is such a thing as too young for heels from a stylistic point of view. On a medical level, heels can be rather damaging to young girls feet, heel and ankle, and may result in Severs syndrome or something icky like that later on. But heels are like, my favorite things (not really). Unfortunately, I had a really nice purple pair from Wet Seal that dissapeared recently, along with a black studded pair. I still have my too big pumps, though. And I’m saving up for these heeled pole climber boots.

I went to Saks Fifth Avenue once. Who cares about the prices-it’s the most amazing store ever!!! When I got to the shoe department I almost DIED of excitement. What I did instead was text my friend and rant about how amazing it was. Even typing about it I am filled with “best-thing-ever”-ness. *sighs and goes to shoe heaven*

When I was 9 I had a pair of very sweet sparkly red shoes. I was quite small for my age so they didn’t look childish.

I am considering the purchase of a pair of Converse whatever-those-are- I don’t think they count as flats but they are cute.

I look best in black, dark red, and dark green.

Everyone’s trying to get me to go to Homecoming, which means dress shopping. Ugh. I don’t even know if I want to wear a dress, but what else would I wear? I found a nice black and red ruched clingy thing, but I’d have to tuck to wear that, and tucking is uncomfortable. Extremely so. No dancing in that.

I sew sometimes. I altered my dress for the Lughnasa festival, and a gorgeous dress it is too. I’m making a dress right now actually, but I was interrupted by the Adventuress and never got my momentum back. Also, I’m almost done, and I’m rather disappointed with how it turned out. I can only hope that putting it through the wash will soften it up (ah, quilting cotton…) and maybe shrink it a bit more. It’s too big and it looks too big, and I’m kind of picky. I don’t mind my clothes being ill-fitting as long as it’s costuming, but this dress is supposed to fit well and look nice.

SudoRandom (2): Capes! They’re the best. My ultimate frisbee team wore capes at our last game of the season a few years ago–then wore them to school the next day. It was fantastic. As for no hats at school–not only does my school have a no-wearing-hats rule, but it has a no-carrying-hats rule. (3): I couldn’t imagine wearing any type of clothing item that restricted your movement would be enjoyable. Corsets can definitely be loosened, but I imagine they would still make it more difficult to, say, bend over and curl up into balls and run through long hallways.

oxlin (5, 19): Buttons! I love buttons. They’re lots of fun. And pockets are definitely essential. I would probably die if I didn’t have any pockets, because I rely on them very heavily to carry things.

In terms of my own fashion..um..I wear t-shirts and tennis shoes and jeans and fleeces and button-down shirts. And that’s pretty much it.

I just got a new scarf for my scarf collection! It’s made out of this soft flannel material, and is this abstract rainbow design that I can’t really explain but is gorgeous. It’ll definitely match with all of my white outfits. Now I have eighteen. (I just counted.) That is pretty crazy. Then again, I wear scarves with everything, so it’s not as bad as it sound. I mean, I even wear scarves in the summer – I have this one really pretty white lacy one which is really good with summer outfits, especially summer dresses.

Every day is pretty much Halloween for me. I’d go “normal” if that weren’t so cliche. It’s be interesting to see me with a fake tan and football jersy and khaki pants and nikes, but I’d have to not shave my legs for a week and that would be :0

I liked my outfit today. V-necked black baby doll T, black jacket with the ends all ripped and the collar up, blue flare jeans and black pumps. My choker, as usual. Kind of faux biker chic.

Beavo, I don’t think gender makes much difference in this case. In less than 24 hours after shaving my legs are stubbly.

So, a whole week without shaving probably is about equivalent for the both of us. I just don’t have the energy to care, unless I’m wearing shorts….Which I avoid, really, because I dislike shaving, and don’t think my legs are all that attractive, so. Yeah.

Also I wore a skirt to school yesterday too. It was a triple layer with a black slip, red tool with plaid frilly things on the bottom and then black tool with a chain on the side and grommets. I also couldn’t find my one pair of tights so I just wore skinny black jeans and it worked out fine.

My friends and I are having a Murder Mystery Dinner party, and I would dearly love to set it in the 30s, but unfortunately that means clothing everyone in vaguely 30s costumes (to say nothing of the decor. I hope J will let me decorate her house for it) and I don’t think it can be done. K and EB don’t even own dresses, much less 30s dresses. I can clothe one person besides myself, but I’m a lot smaller than everyone else. Ah, difficulties.

Anyway, I have this gorgeous light blue dress, with a high waist and a pleated bodice (sort of…it’s hard to describe), and a sort of point in the hem. It’s got spaghetti straps, but then there’s this tiny matching shrug that goes over which has ruffly material for a border. It’s really beautiful, and like sixty or seventy years old, but it’s a little bit stained, and needs mending. Which is perfectly all right, for costume purposes. I’m learning to live with costumes in less-than-ideal condition. They are costumes, after all.

I mean, there aren’t too many families with young kids in my development, and the houses are kinda far apart so it would take a while just to get to ten houses or so. It stinks, but usually I just get into one of my friend’s parties and we do it together.

I’m really freaked out because I can’t think of something to be for Halloween. Well, actually, I have two options: a shadow or a record player. But I don’t know how I’d actually go about making a record player that I could actually wear….My friend who always has really beautiful costumes is going as an Elizabethan-style masquerading person. (For lack of a better way to describe it.) My other friend is being an octopus, and three of my other friends are going together as Alvin and the Chipmunks.

The other day I also got a pair of really pwnsome boots! They are black pleather (the good kind, not the cheap kind) and have a very low heel and go up to my knees. They are pretty. I think I’ll wear them tomorrow with my Beatles shirt.

I’m sad I don’t actually have fashion where I go to school, else I might wear my neon green tights and dresses everyday. But, I go to private school, and I wear a kilt (which is actually not so bad because you can go around to people wearing it, have them ask you “What’s that ghastly thing covering your legs?” and reply happily, “It’s a kilt, you doorknob!”). You can only wear certain shoes though. And certain tights and tank tops underneath the uniform shirt. I usually wear lime green converse and my hair back in a ponytail with some interesting bow or headband. For instance, today I wore a headband with a little faux bird glued to it, and it’s wearing a Michigan State football sweater. My best birthday present EVER.

I’m going to be a prison guard for Halloween. Complete with fluffy handcuffs and a sign that says “Don’t Feed Sirius Black.” Say what you may, but I like it. :]

I’ve got boots rather like Uggs, but not quite. They’re nice and floppy. I got them from one of my friends last year and they still fit loosely like last year (If I didn’t know it was physically impossible I’d swear they were even looser)! It got cold here all of a sudden. Yesterday and the day before were all sunny (and it is still) and warm (not so much) and today it was so cold my friend Sara could see her breath when she was walking to school! My current fashion: jeans, sneakers, some mathy/sciencey/other geeky t-shirt, and Yale sweatshirt (which is nice and warm and comfy and also happens to be the warmest thing I have on campus). And my hair is usually in a messy bun because I don’t want to wake up early enough to shower and detangle it.

Yes, I have a better fashion sense than this, but sleep deprivation and cold stifle it. (The upperclassmen warned us this would happen.)

I don’t have Uggs but I was made happy today because it was cold enough to wear my sweater Fuggs, ( Fake Uggs ) they are black on the feet and have a red-and-black sweater pattern around my lower calves. They are soooo comfy and warm.

I finally decided on a costume for Halloween. My friend gave me a big faux-ruby ring that looks exactly the same as the one Ringo wore in Help!, so I am going to be Ringo Starr in the movie Help!. I am wearing a blue poncho, (with a blue shirt underneath) blue pants, black boots, blue hat. And, of course, the “ruby” ring with a bunch of others. And I’m going to buy a can of red paint and dribble the paint all over the sides of the can and walk around with it. (Which DOES make sense if you’ve seen the movie!) *squee*

My friend and I accidently wore matching outfits today. I wore a white dress shirt, pink and black tie, pinstripe vest and dark pants. She wore the same thing minus the tie. It’s kind of funny because it wasn’t like that’s what we wear eveyday. We sit together in class and we got a lot of coments on our matchiness. Silly.

I agree about Uggs and I also think they would be rather uncomfortable, seeing as they have no support whatsoever ( I think).
I have take to wearing the black skirt I was talking about somewere way up there the way normal people wear sweatpants. When I get home from school and I have to remove my pants for any reason, I put on my skirt. I think I have managed a way to incorperate it into my Halloween costume that I have to bring to Turkey. I shall be the universe! I can wear my shirt with stars and planets and such on it, my black skirt(peppered with star stickers ) and possibly something else, I’d really like to put the horsebead nebula somewere, maybe on a hat. I like hats.

I have an issue of gothic & lolita bible, though all the patterns are mostly useless to me since the instructions are in Japanese.
Hmm, mine is actually gothic & lolita bible extra….that’s probably why mana’s not on the cover lolllll forever
ugh there’s so much cute stuff in there though. I’ve seen displays of some of the brands featured ( h naoto, angelic pretty…) and it’s just as cute in person. But it is so unbelievably expensive. like 30000 yen expensive, which is about 3000 dollars. yeah :/ that’s why a lot of people do stuff on their own I think

My hair is completely straight, no curl whatsoever, although it does get a bit of a frizzy curl next to my ears when it’s really humid.

If I braid it when it’s wet, or even just braid it, it’s got some frizzy crinkle to it when it’s brushed out, but I think it looks horrible that way (although I know many people who disagree with me, and like how it looks when it’s got the waviness).

My hair is so fine, though, that I really can’t do much at all with it–hair clips don’t stay, they just slide right out, I can do a ponytail, but the weight of 3 feet of hair tends to mean it doesn’t necessarily stay up very well, either, and in general I basically just run a brush through it, and don’t do much with it. if it’s wet, i can’t do anything (or even if it’s just humid), because it’s “sticky”, and just turns into a tangle mass of knots if I do more than just brush it……When I was little I always wore it in a french braid, but I can’t do that to my own hair, and stopped ahving my mom do it years and years ago……

My brother has flamablamablously curly hair. It’s fairly long, too. Mine is almost completely straight, with a few tiny curls by my ears.

My ears aren’t pierced either, and I’m a 12 year old girl too. I’m probably one of the only girls in my grade who doesn’t have it done, but I don’t really mind…I’m sure they’d be a great, fun accessory but I’m just way too busy (and lazy) to get it done.

CONVERSE!
While incredibly bored in World Cultures and Acting, I wrote all of the lyrics to “21 Guns” all over my purple pair of Converse in red pen. On my other, patterned pair of Converse, which I cannot currently find, my very weird ninja cousin drew a muffin and wrote “Feel da burne!” What with wear and tear on the shoes, it now looks like “Feed da bunnie”.
Feed da bunnie? Feed da bunnie? Amusing? Perhaps. Ominous? Very! RUN AWAY!

Hmm…fashion? Me? I dunno. Style? Whatever works.
I don’t think I’m as creative with my dressing as I probably should be, but I occasionally make a tad more effort.

Hmm, today I’m wearing a dark blue knit shirt that has woven cuffs and collar (and it’s kind of got a split down a way in the front, like a button down sans the buttons) under a grey tank top. Loose fitting jeans that have piecing on the bottoms (they’re flared). And a tan courderoy jacket that I just got yesterday and described on the random thread, but I’ll do it again here; it’s double breasted, has great big buttons, and is sort of inspired by 1800’s clothing in the cut and all. It’s quite awesome if I do say so myself.
Shoes? I like crazy shoes, what can I say? I’m currently wearing some woven leather (yeah yeah I know–not vegan) clogs that are comfortable and hideous, but I’ll probably change into my plad or purple sneakers before going to choir rehearsal tonight. Or maybe my purple ballet-flat type shoes, but I don’t want to have cold toes….even though it’s pretty mile out….eh, we’ll see.

So yeah, that’s my dressing slightly more creatively, which I do about 40% of the time or so, a little more lately. The rest of the time I’m just wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Meh.

So, I now have a cape that’s blue… velour?.. something like that on one side, and something purple and silky, though not actually silk, on the other side. It’s reversible.
Yesterday I got some purple hair fastened in my real hair with some sort of metal thing. It can stay in when I wash my hair, but it can be removed fairly easily. It’s quite awesome.

66~ Oh, art shoes are the best! The only thing as good as crazy shoes (and I’m talking purple, red and black swirls, plads, rhinestones, etc. on shoes here, though not all on the same pair…) is plain-ish shoes (especially sneakers) that have been drawn and doodled on. I have a pair that I “improved” with sharpies. They were a black and white and slightly sparkly herringbone pattern to begin with, so I took the sharpies and colored the outlines, different colors for each foot. The outcome was pretty fun, I wear them usually on days that I might be getting dirty, not filthy enough to warrant boots or work shoes, but not nice enough to wear shoes I’d mind messing up a little.

I love loud, obnoxious and insane shoes. Have I mentioned that before?

I’m with you! Especially because uniform doesn’t really allow you to customize your outfit much, so I make my shoes as crazy as possible!

Have you ever tried to Bedazzle your shoes? It works really well. I have black and white converse with little faces be-dazzed all over!

I have THICK hair. I keep it short since it’s a crap to take care of long. i actually started getting dreadlocks in the under hair before I cut it short. Now it’s poofy. It’s angled down towards the front, with the front of my side bangs nearly reaching my shoulders right now. And ith washing, you have to wash it around every two days to avoid it getting oily, and wash with shampoo once and no conditioner. And people say they WANT thick hair.

I have decided that I should dress more creatively.
The other day I wore a pair of jeans with ripped out knees, and since it was cold I wore striped tights underneath. The effect was quite nice, if I do say so myself.

Went to a goodwill today, and got a few things. A sweater, a few shirts…it’s good. I like ’em. A few stripy ones, a nice green one that will be good for working in.
I’ve noticed lately it seems that all my shirts are really high cut, so a few of these are a bit lower. Nothing drastic, but a little different. Sneaking changes into my wardrobe……mwahahaha.

Has anybody heard about tomsshoes dot com? (Remove the spaces, and the “dot” is a period.) For every pair of shoes you buy, they donate a pair. People have told me the shoes are ugly… I like them.
I’m trying to find my style. As far as I can tell, the closest I have to one right now is t-shirts with words on them. I have some snazzy pinstriped pants, but that’s it.

89~ No, I hadn’t heard of them before, but a cursory glance over their website looks quite promising. They’re a bit expensive, but I love the idea of donating a pair for each pair someone buys. That’s cool.
And while I’m not sure I’d wear some of the designs I saw there, I do like them. And I like that they have a vegan shoes section. Being vegan, I think it’s a neat idea, though I will admit that several of my all-time favorite shoes and the ones I wear all the time are leather, and it doesn’t bother me. But having that option is nice. If that makes sense.
And those pinstriped pants sound pretty sweet.

Hmmmm. I don’t know if I really have a style. I’m generally rather conservative I guess. Jeans, t-shirt, whatever, that pretty much does it. I’m not one who’ll show up wearing metallics and faux snakeskin or whatever.

The kind of fashions I admire and would like to try out some more are kind of hippie-inspired, alternative, sustainable, interesting, colorful, whatever. I dunno…..just fun.

Kaykaykay!!

Well, I still have to get the perfect shirt for my Matt cosplay, but it’s basically complete!

I got these glasses that have orange lenses and silver rims, and are very similar to Matt’s goggles except they aren’t really… goggles…

And, and! I found the most perfect boots! They zip up so I can tuck my black-ish blue-ish jeans in, and they fiiiit wonderfullyyyy~

I’m getting my hair spray-painted, since I can’t dye it because you don’t dye blond hair! (on a side note, Dani got her hair cut so it looks almost exactly like Mello’s. My mom will do facepaint for the scar.)

I’m borrowing either J’s or Dan’s waistcoat since my mother won’t buy me expensive new clothes cause of my giant growth spurts o’ doom.

So, I’d like your opinions, tomogatchi. Which shirt should I wear?

OPTION 1: It’s navy blue and white stripes, but the stripes get thinner near the elbows.
OPTION 2: Grey and black stripes. The right size, but it looks weird, especially the material it is.
OPTION 3: I wore this for a mime costume. Black and yellowy (somewhat)-white stripes, polyester. Thin stripes, about a sixth of the size I want them to be.

So choose, America? What do you want your favorite Matt cosplayer to wear?

Next year, I’m going to get my friends to do a Hetalia cosplay with me. I could do a good England, Dan could TOTALLY do France, and if J put her hair in a ponytail and we lightened he skin tone, she’d be China, aru! :3

I always wear jeans. Like, always. It was the subject of much discussion in Spanish class when we were on our clothes chapter. Basically:
Sra (in Spanish): Srta. Weverka never wears the skirts.
Me: No, I do not wear them.
Sra: Good for the direct object, Srta. Weverka. Why do you not wear them?
Me: The skirts are, um, uncomfortable. Also I like the jeans.
Sra: The skirts are not always uncomfortable.
Me: But I like the jeans much. (I say this because I’m not sure how to say, “GAH SKIRTS NO” in Spanish, or how to rationalize why.)
I’m with you on the hippie-ish stuff, though. And sort of steampunkish hats. And punk rock jackets. I’m an odd dresser.

I usually wear jeans or my yoga pants, unless I feel like wearing the only skirt that I own/will wear. It’s flammy. With sequins and ribbons and lace and different types of cloth and the top part is like the top of a pair of jeans.

And then I either wear my Cherokee tshirts that I get at Target, or some flammy shirt I found at Target/Kohls in the flammy sales section, or a tshirt from music camp. I’ve built up music camp tshirts over the years, and many still fit me. Maybe up to three years back? *doesn’t know*
Yesterday I was wearing my Believe In Music tshirt from band camp.

Soâ€¦ I’ve been dressing “normal” since fat tuesday. I spray-painted my hair blue- sort of. It didn’t get that blue after all, since it was brown to start with, but the spray made it look darker in bad/medium light, then blue when I stepped under one of the lamps. I felt like Tonks.

I like very simple clothing. Not too many patterns or doo-dads (except for cargo pants! I love cargo pants!) right now I’m wearing jeans and a math club tshirt, but I love dressing up. I own a ton of skirts and dresses but I’m too insecure to wear them to school, or pretty much anywear.

Unbelievably, one part of my plan for taking over the world that I have planned extensively is my outfit as Empress of the Universe. It’s a plain, Grecian, white dress with thick straps but no sleaves, about knee length, uber comfortable cotton fabric with no snaps or zippers to worry about. I’m going to have two belts of a very thick fabric, one light green and one dark for summer and winter. During the winter I will have a forest green (matches the belt) traveling cloak, to my calves, with a silver clasp and a hood. If it’s really cold, I would wear simple black leggings. My Fugg boots in the winter and gladiator sandels all other times. Yes, I am actually planning on making/ purchasing all this. I also have a simple diadem in mind, a silver circlet with a diamond-shaped emerald. (I like the color green).

And yes, I have put as much thought into my actual plan as into my outfit.

I got the craziest hoodie ever today. Seriously, I’ve never seen anything like it, and I almost didn’t get it, but it’s very warm and cozy.
It looks kind of like a Hogwart’s robe. It’s grey fleece, and it’s long. Like, calf-length, and it flares out at the bottom. It’s got long belled sleeves and a pointed, long hood. Pockets, and exposed seams for decoration around the midsection. It seriously looks like some sort of Hogwarts uniform, but it’s nice and cozy, so I like it. The sleeves are a little hard to manage (they’re floppy and long) but it’s fun.
I don’t think it’ll replace my double-breasted corduroy jacket as favorite though. That one is just too wonderful, like a denim jacket, only that much better. Kind of vintage military-ish looking. ♥

98~ I feel your pain. I have the opposite problem, being short (and wearing most of my jeans relatively loose) I my pants are always too long, so I end up chopping the bottoms off more often than not. But too-short pants are really miserable. Some pants come in “tall” sizes, with longer legs, are you able to find those? That might help some.

Since it’s not every day that someone proclaims they’re in love with my outfit, and it happened today, I feel compelled to describe what I’m wearing.
From top to bottom:
Orange BeadForLife necklace (paper beads made in Africa, gorgeous, fair trade, and awesome in general)
Lime green spaghetti-strap cami layered over a grey tank top
Just below the knee length skirt, dip dyed purple, grey and teal.
Flip-flops.
Purple/blue painted toenails.

I love spring. COLORS!!!! I can wear COLORS again! Not like winter stops me from doing so, but spring lends itself well to lime greens and bright purples, which I’m all for. I love lime green. Actually, I like wearing green in general. I just like green. Olive, lime, grass, etc. Green is an awesome color.

103.1~ They make your socks fall off too? xD Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only person in the universe that has that issue. Once upon a time, when wearing those awful “peg-leg” jeans (basically skinny jeans of the 90’s/early 2000’s) My socks kept inching down, and of course there was no way to get them to go back up. And I didn’t wear ankle socks at that point.

Okay, I have a fashion confession I feel strangely compelled to make; I used to wear leggings all the time. Seriously, not jeans, leggings. And not like the ones that are, heaven forbid, coming back into fashion, but I mean real, honest-to-koko 90’s leggings. With floppy sweaters sometimes, too. *shudder*
I’m feeling old now, when I look at ads or whatever from when I was younger and thinking “Whoa, that looks so dated….wait……..I HAD (or wanted) one of those!” 0.o Like Furbies.
Which has nothing to do with fashion, so I’ll take that as my cue to shut up and hit comment before drifting much further off topic.

When my group was in Florence, I ended up going off to eat lunch with some “girly” girls who wanted to shop afterwards. So I decided to be a good sport and go into a used clothing store with them. I tried some things on to be a good sport, but none of it was really my style. On the second floor of the shop, they had a lot of coats, and I found this dark blue coat, very neatly cut, that fit me pretty well. It looked really good on me when I looked in the mirror. I guess it was some kind of military surplus thing, because there was a little German flag on the shoulder. I would have bought the coat, except that I didn’t want people thinking I was German and coming up to me and speaking German while we were on the trip.

My mom just bought me (After a lot of persuasion, mind you, seeing as in her eyes they’re obviously not “practical.”) pwnsome-totally-awesomeful tye dye light pink (Yes, I did say pink! But they’re pretty pink, not bunny pink) knee high socks. They’re completely crazy, but that’s why I love them. And I can wear them as soccer socks (Which I desperately need more of) or for just general craziness (Which I know I don’t need any more of, but I’ll get anyway.)

And I also got a new pair of black pants for my band concert, but who cares about those? Obviously the socks are better!

I have come to rave and gloat about my latest clothing acquisitions.
A phenomenally successful haul at the thrift store today, I brought back:

1.)A peach/light red/noit’snotpink,idonotwearpink knit dress that could be worn as a dress or over jeans (it’s knee length, tiered skirt, scoop neck). Whatever I wear it as, I like it. It’s cute. I guess I can be cute now and then, as opposed to stunningly beautiful or looking transgendered.

2.) Three pairs of shorts. Now, normally I hate shorts with a bloody passion and refuse to wear them, but I’m actually pretty excited about these. They’re a linen/cotton blend, one pair is a kind of lightish olive green plaid, the other lightish brown plaid, and the other tan and brown pinstripes. Awesome.

3.) Two pairs of capri-ish pants. Wide legs, calf-length, you get the idea. One pair is tan pinstripes, the other is brown/green. (I love the brownish green color, yes I do.)

4.) (And I’m really excited about this one) A pair of dark brown, pinstriped pants, linen/cotton again. And they are pretty awesome. I’m thinking they could be used for a kind of steampunkish effect, if I so desired. They’re straight legged and (as always seems to be the case) a little long, but it’s fine. I can hem or cuff them. I just LOVE them. Even though I usually hate straight legged pants. They’re just that awesome. I shall name them “the trousers”.

5.) Two camisoles for sleepwear/layering. One is nondescript, but the other is a lovely grey blue with pretty lacy (but not GAH lacy, nice lacy) trim around the neckline, straps and hem. It would go well with The Trousers. But I’d have to layer it with something, as mommie dear thinks that spaghetti straps “look like underwear” and as a result I’m not encouraged in any way to wear them as anything other than pajamas. I’m not expressly forbidden, I don’t think, but I’m pretty sure it would cause a row were I to announce that I was going out in one. Alas. When I am no longer living at home, I shall wear whatever I please. Within reason, of course…..

Anyways, I got a few other things, but they’re not noteworthy and so I shan’t rave over things that don’t deserve it.

I hope this doesn’t have to be good fashion… because my nonexistent fashion sense… fails and doesn’t exist.

Anyway, my current “thing” as some would call it is sweatpants with frayed end that can be easily ripped shorter and/or cargo pants, baggy tee-shirts (my parent disagree, they don’t like baggy clothing), hats when I can, mismatched socks that hide under my converse, Converse, and paint and/or marker/pen on any skin when possible.

I’m just going to post this before I get too ranty.

117.1~ Aw, thanks again! I like pinstripes (and stripes in general) too.
Generally I dress rather boringly, jeans, t-shirt, done. In the winter, jeans, shirt, t-short layer over it, sweater, done.
But I resolved some time back to be more creative, which I’ve not entirely stuck to, but has been coming out a little more than before, so that’s good.

I really need to cull my wardrobe. I have so many things that I just never wear but can’t bear to part with, or say that I’ll “keep for work clothes and just wear out” and don’t have the heart to. *sigh*

Nooooo thread! I shall not let you die!
Is it ironic that I keep posting here even though I don’t really consider myself that into fashion? I think it’s rather amusing.

Anyway. Uh, clothes. So today, orange tank top, pale blue spaghetti-strap tank over it, loose-fitting capri-length milk chocolate pants, lime green Keen sandals. I like colors.

I still need to cull my wardrobe.

And I now have a pair of non-flared jeans. I’m not really too sure how I feel about them. They claim to be bootcut, but they have a decided taper in the legs, so basically they’re skinny jeans. Except they’re not skin-tight. But meh, whatever. They also claim to be “short” and they’re still too long. >.<
So, I know I'm not tall, but I don't think my legs are that short in comparison to the rest of my body.
Eh whatever. They're okay pants, I like them alright, and they don't make my socks fall off, because I now wear ankle socks. HA! Take THAT pants!'

Thanks Mom, thanks a lot.

I, however, happen to like what I’m wearing.
The article of clothing in question is a crochet tank top that’s a peachy-orange color with yellow and brown star/flower designs and small wooden beads. Rather hippie-esque and not as dreadful as that description was.
I’m wearing this over a light green v-neck t-shirt and jeans and clunky black shoes that *gasp* have kind of a heel. Like, maybe and inch, don’t worry, I shouldn’t kill myself in them.
*sigh* I thought it looked good. Darn fashion police.
To not offend the tender mind’s eye of my gentle readers, I shan’t even endeavor to describe what my dear mama has at times donned.
Apparently costuming train wrecks run in the family.

121- In my mind, crochet tank tops are, as a rule, to be avoided, but there seems nothing wrong with the outfit you just described. Believe me, my mother looks with a similar view on some of the things I wear, namely, the peasant blouse with flowing sleeves and the bright yellow kerchief skirt and various combinations thereof (frequently involving multitudes of costume jewelry). Anyway, that doesn’t even sound extreme enough to be ugly…

122~ May I ask why they’re to be avoided? I do realize some are hideous (and this one, to be fair, is a little sketchy, but I have an irrational attachment to it), but as a rule?

The peasant blouse, yello kerchief skirt and copious amounts of costume jewelry sounds lovely. I mite much for me perhaps, but it could definitely be pulled off and look good.

I need to be myself some converse high-tops, I really do. But my dilemma is what color I should get, and whether I should get patterned ones.
I love the patterns, because I adore crazy shoes, but I’d also want to be able to wear them with other stuff (and my crazy socks), so that would point towards a plain colored pair. But then what color? What’s a good funky color that would be fun but unobtrusive enough to wear with everything I own?
AHHH DILEMMAS!!!

I do rather like the all black ones. But I also like the colors. What I need is a shoestore. Or a shoe library.
Wouldn’t that be cool? A clothing and shoe library. All colors and styles and sizes, and you could check out outfits and shoes for a certain amount of time and wear them and then return them. That would be cool.
In theory of course, in practice it’d probably be all gross an unhygenic. But it’s a fun thought. For me at least.

124~ The x-hi’s? I have seen them, I have drooled over them, and I have thought how amazingly badass they would be to own. (Can I say badass here? Because that’s really the only way to describe those shoes.)
I would totally get them, except that I have only 2 skirts I can see wearing them with. But those 2 skirts would be amazing with them.

Like I said, I think I need at the very least 3 pairs of converses.
One x-hi pair, one wildly patterned/colored pair, and one all-black hi-top pair.

i am wearing a t-shirt that my mom got me when she went to some conference (i believe this one is from colorado, although it’s hard to read upside down), dark green cargo pants and black and blue flip-flops. the only substitutions that are ever made to this outfit are jeans for the cargo pants, a shirt from the internet instead of from a conference, and real shoes for when i am working or doing something else that requires real shoes. also, occasionally there is a hoodie or a jacket.

i don’t wear converse. it just seems like such a hypocritical shoe. not that any of you wear them hypocritically, i’m sure, but to me they will just always be linked with hipster idiocy. of course all of you and david tennant are the exceptions to this.

Why are converses hypocritical?
I don’t have a pair, but I like them. I’m slightly annoyed by the fact that they’re a big fad, but then, I’m annoyed when I see something and like it and then very soon after it becomes the next big thing. *sigh* Dear fashion industry, please stop reading my mind, I’m not really even that fashion conscious. Follow someone else.

Today:
black, slightly oversized t-shirt that has a corset kind of thing printed on it, dark wash jeans with ridiculous fading that I only have because they were free and mostly fit. They’re too long though, so I’ve rolled them up for now, being too lazy to chop them off. And the same chunky black shoes I mentioned earlier.
I actually quite like these shoes. They’re just plain black leather (yeah yeah, bad vegan, I know) and are low but have kind of Doc Martin style, though they aren’t. And they have heels. Like, actual inch and some high heels. *amazement* But they’re really comfortable and I adore them.

I hate packing. I was moaning on the random thread, but I might as well whine here as well. I have too many clothes. But I never have something to wear. How does that work? Bleh.

they are just so very hipster. and hipsters are entirely hypocritical. it’s like “ooh, i’m wearing converse, i’m so unique and quirky and different” when actually -everyone- is wearing them trying to be quirky and different and it just doesn’t work at all. again, not that you are trying to use them as an image, but a lot of people do and it bugs me.

sigh. i don’t know. i wear white shoes with splotches of paint. or flip-flops. or no shoes at all, preferably.

today i’m wearing sweatpants, because cake it, i was up ALL NIGHT. and i’m not going anywhere today. also a sort of camo-ish shirt that says “upper peninsula, michigan” which is among the awesomest places ever.

But I like them, since they’re just generally awesome shoes and they work well without a lot of outfits if you get them in a standard color/kind, otherwise, not so much. (Although the knee high black ones do indeed sound pwnsome, I would want that if only it looked good with more outfits.)

And I only have one pair which are brown and the boring regular type, but still.

Re: Converse: I like ’em. They’re a little too ubiquitous, but they’re cute. Now, the ones that go up to the knee are very neat. They do have the drawback of covering up my famously awesome socks. (Yes, I am known for having awesome socks.) If I wanted footwear that reached the knee, I’d probably go the route of black leather boots, preferably lace-up, and/or with neat buckling straps. (This is an ideal, mind you. I would probably be unable to find the perfect pair.) Failing that, red knee-high Converse.

Has anyone else ever noticed how convenient it is that kilt pins look edgy? All I have to do is add a kilt pin to my plaid skirt and it goes from “boarding-school” to “punk.” I like this fact very much.

So, what else is fashionable in Cerulean-land? How about an extraordinary coat? Said coat is black (I probably wear too much black, but I look good in black), kind of trench coat shaped, with double lapels and two columns of buttons. It fits me perfectly, has strap-y trim on the cuffs, and is very Steampunk. It’s a winter coat, so I have to wait to wear it, but I keep slipping it on and getting too hot and taking it off.

Thanks, Fiddler! I like my style too. (There’s a shock.) I don’t always dress Steampunk. I tend to dress in a sophisticated way with a dash of edge. Sometimes the edge is subtle, sometimes it overwhelms the normalcy, but it’s usually there.

Ebeth: Mine, a pinstriped fedora, was actually reasonable to me (fifteen bucks), but that’s because it wasn’t actually billed as Steampunk. It came from a museum gift shop. My goggles were bought online. They have shiny silver metal frames, black tinted lenses that switch out with yellow ones that I never wear, and the nose-piece and padding are black. They are simply lovely. They were about twenty dollars. You can find decent-to-fantastic Steampunk stuff for good prices if you look hard enough. It also works to look for things that don’t say “Steampunk”, but can be such.

I don’t think anyone i know wears Converse in order to be quirky and different…because they’re so NOT. Unless I’m wearing them, of course.

Sighhh steampunk…I have a long red coat that’s kind of steampunk and I wear it with my knee-high black boots and feel Cool, but it seems like the only look I can successfully pull off with that coat is Pirate.

Today: Floor-length velvet skirt in a variety of jewel tones, bright yello kerchief skirt, peach peasant blouse, brown tank top, red-yellow-brown braided belt, black flats, Too Much Jewelry, and a flat, befeathered hat in brown velvet with gold brocade trim. Is it sad that this comes much more easily to me than, say, something subtle and sophisticated, perhaps involving knee-length pants and a flattering shirt?

My mission this summer is to get a pair of awesome books. They will have to be black and up to my knee at least, also finding ones that fit me is going to be hard (I have thickish calves from hockey, but it’s muscle not fat so my ankles are skinny in comparison–so anything I’ve found so far that’s fit my calves has been two big in the ankle so I would trip and fall and die. We are talking about the person who trips and falls even when not wearing shoes at all).

I have money from graduation though ($140! And I haven’t even had my actual party yet), so I’ll be able to get a good pair at least. Woo!

Re:Steampunk: I wish I had some of those clothes as well D: But I am always lacking in the monetary department, as I spend all my money on jewelry at the jewlery&gem shows I go to at least twice a year. Worth it, though. Also I don’t have a credit card/paypal and the best clothes are online : P

Re: Converse being unoriginal: What I think quite a lot of Converse-wearers fail to exploit to ridiculous heights is the fact that Converse are incredibly easy to draw on. I mean, just doodle a sea serpent on one, and boom! You have a shoe that is not identical to any other shoe in the universe!
I write the words of poems, original song lyrics, and pictures of hot-air-balloons accidentally sailing into Yggdrasil on mine, mainly because that’s the only thing I can draw. I do the same thing on my jeans, except more political.

Mainly it’s just little doodles of hot air balloons. Then I start playing with my ability to draw curved surfaces and, for reasons unknown to myself, make the balloon in the pattern of the British flag. Then I think, “Ooh! I can draw trees!” and draw a tree. Then my tree starts overlapping with my hot air balloon, and I realize that it’s about twenty times bigger than my hot air balloon, so I draw a palace in the branches and in the roots, draw a little arrow to the tree saying Yggdrasil, and put a little speech bubble from the hot air balloon saying “Oh no…”
Occasionally I’ll do the same thing with little sailboats and sea serpents. Huh. Maybe I should learn how to draw cars so I can draw one driving into, like, Dante’s Inferno or something.

I draw on my Converse. Just the rubber parts though. My left toe has a and says Well Then, and my right toe has a Ziggybolt. (The sidewalls say things like DAVID BOWIE and GEORGE HARRISON, etc.)
I love my Converse. I wear them every day. XD (They’re bright red high-tops) My goal in life is to have a red Converse for every pole on the end of my bed. (Also to build a bulldozer rental place next to Stonehenge, but that’s another story. XD)

I draw on my Converse too! *highfives everyone who does so* Well, actually I only draw on my grey pair (aka the grey Converse –pre-doodling era– in the Kokon picture with the shoes), and save my navy blue ones for when I have to dress ‘nicely’. All my friends (including some MBers) have signed them, and I draw all over the rubber and canvas when I’m bored in class. In Art today I found I was able to colour on the canvas with coloured pencil, so now one side is a lovely shade of light purple. I’ve mostly written things like SHAZAM! and I <3 Gegri (nickname for George Harrison; long story) and other nonsense.

Yeh, I get plenty of flack for Converse-drawing, too. Used to be I kept them all pristine and neat, and then my amazing cousin broke the Pure Whiteness of Purity by doodling a bunny and writing “feel teh burn” on my favorite pair. Unfortunately, the “feel teh burn” looked like “feed teh bunnie”, which made me scream and grab the Sharpie. And now my Converse are so very dead and broken that it doesn’t matter if I draw on them or not. Hurrah.

Oh, and re: steampunk I have some women’s steampunk clothes but I’d like a couple men’s outfits. I also want more men’s formal wear. I have a suit! my brother gave it to me. It used to be his and it fits me perfectly. He also has tails that used to be our great-grandfather’s but they are two small for both of us. Apparently, our great grandfather was a tiny man.

Also the shoes I wear are Keen hiking boots in the winter and birkenstock sandals in the summer. And my favorite summer shirt is a sleeveless button down shirt that has a row of tiny buttons that appear black but shine a sort of beetle-greenish/bluish color if they reflect the light properly. It has a mandarin collar. I like mandarin collars.

Re: Converse- I think that when customized and worn as such, they can be unique. I know a ton of kids who draw on their, I usually Sharpie up my new ones within the first few months with some kind of weird doodles when I’m bored during class, it’s very entertaining!

As for style, I would describe mine as a weird hybrid between the prep attitude and the boho-chic style. I love flowy shirts, skirts, cowboy boots headbands and loose curls. My choice of jeans would be skinnies because they are easily the most comfortable, hands-down.

Re: buying things online: do you have a checking account? Or a debit card? I know debit cards are supposedly not the greatest, but if I’m not much mistaken you can buy things online with them. Only thing being that because a debit (or check) card takes the money directly out of the bank if the transaction gets screwy or someone gets your information you’re finished.
Or I guess you can pay by check some places, can’t you? Geez, I don’t know.

136~ Me too. I’d like to start getting involved with War of 1812 reenacting, and if I do I’d definitely want to be a guy. Or, more realistically have clothing for both genders and do a flexible impression. But I’d definitely want to have boyclothes.

Re: Doodling on shoes:
One time my mom and I found these cheap plain white canvas sneakers and bought a pair each to decorate. Mine had smiley faces, peace signs, outlines on the seams in all different colors, flowers, etc. Mom did one of her shoes in all sorts of different hearts and the other one in all sorts of flowers.
It was a very fun project, and I wore those shoes to death, I loved them so much. They’re actually still around, hanging on a cabinet in the library in the barn.
I think my favorite memory of them was when it was completely pouring down rain one night. This was an all-out thunderstorm, and there was a huge piece of plywood outside that got really slippery when it was wet, so I was out there sliding around on it having a total blast. The shoes had no tread at all, so I could really slide fast. It was awesome, and I didn’t even get killed.

Does anyone else associate clothing with memories?

if i had to pick a style it would probably be grunge, but i don’t really wear anything specifically to fit into a style so i don’t know it is sort of a generic ebeth style. i’m wearing track pants right now (laundryyyy gaaah) ((also…with a STRIPE. that’s right. you wish you were me) and a blue shirt with penguins on it. and um, a towel on my head. i probably won’t keep that on all day though

not really fashion so much but i guess it fits – what do people wear for PJs? i usually just grab shorts/sweatpants depending on weather and a loose t-shirt, but lately i’ve taken to just sleeping in my clothes (partly because i haven’t really been sleeping more than a few hours :-/)

139~ Pajamas…..I generally wear a camisole and sweatpants or pajama pants, or any bottoms that are soft and comfortable. Or I just go with the cami (and underwear, of course) if it’s hot out.
I’m trying to remember what I wore last summer on Niag, because if I recall properly I just slept in my clothes. And I have no idea what any of the other girls did. Guys have it so easy, they can go around in boxers all day and then shuck everything else and sleep in them and not be indecent. Unfortunately, boxers wouldn’t work under my girl-cut pants, and boyshort undies still show a little more than I’d like to present to everyone else on the berth deck. Meh.

Re: boots, I’ve found that a good place to buy a cheap pair of tall lace up boots is antique stores. I got a pair of actual victorian boots at an antique store in Chicago (where I don’t live, GAPAs) and a pair of brown boots that go up to my knees (though they lace up they have zippers on the inside) at an antique store near my house. They are usually fairly cheap at antique stores though I think I got a deal on the victorian boots because the heels were falling apart.

When I’m not a camp counselor, I wear skirts and bold colored clothing. Dark jewel tones, mostly. In the summer I wear socks or tights with my skirts to prevent my legs from freezing. I do wear pants as well, just less often.

I have found the most awesome pair of boots. I need them to live. Except there are online so I have no way of buying them and I don’t think they would actually fit me, but I need them.
If you type “Exotica-2030 by Funtasma” into google images it shows up all over the first page. They’re like pirate boots! In black and gold! And they just look really… sleek but in an old-fashioned way. And the heel’s not *too* skinny so I might be able to even walk in them without dying.

138- No debit. I am basically confined to cash. Sigh.
141- I don’t suppose you remember the name of that store?
Pajamas- I wear pajama pants/shorts and an oversized t-shirt. Sometimes (at sleepovers usually, I don’t know why, it just works out that way) I wear a cami instead of large shirt.

I also really like vintage clothes and antique shops. Some of the things there are really nice. i also like skinny jeans, casual floral designs, and sweatshirts or cardigans. Most of the time when im at home, i wear pjs and huge sweatshirts.My favorite shoes are messy sneakers, ballerinas, and sandals. One of my favorite brands *which I cant afford, is Marc Jacobs. I like Miu Miu as well, but some of the things are to fancy for my everyday wear. I can never wear my hair down, it bothers me too much because of the frizziness, but I might get bangs. Advice, side or middle?

Though that does remind me, I need to get my debit card activated. I’ve never used it, because I prefer to use cash. But I should probably activate it at some point soon so I can use it at ATMs and suchlike. *sigh*
And I need to deposit a check. I dislike dealing with money. I like having it, but I don’t like shuffling it around or spending it. *is a miser*

The shirt was a hand me down from Phil’s mom, it’s a very pretty burgundy with “Hard Rock Cafe, Madrid” on it in mustard yellow writing. I’ve never been to a Hard Rock Cafe anywhere, much less Madrid. But whatever.

Associating clothes with memories–I took ice-skating lessons for a year or two when I was little, and I remember I always wore this one sweatshirt my grandparents got for me in Switzerland. It was gray, and had these little stick-figure-esque people wearing bandannas on it. I thought it was the coolest thing ever because the ends of the bandannas–the part that’s knotted and sticking off your head–actually was 3D and came up from the sweatshirt. I found this sweatshirt in the process of cleaning out my room yesterday. First of all, it’s tiny. Second of all, it says GRINDELWALD on it in big letters. I think that’s the name of a place in Switzerland, but it didn’t stop me from going ohmygodohmygodohmygod for a good couple minutes. xD

I don’t think that I can really put myself into a specific category of style when it comes to clothing. Because, and I hate to say this since it makes me sound really boring, but my style is honestly just pretty average. I mean, I guess there are some random articles of clothing – scarves, for example (see above, I think I talked about it earlier on this thread) that I can’t live without, but otherwise I’m pretty average. Sometimes I’ll try to fit in at least one sort of edgy/different aspect to my clothes, (I guess because I’m the type of person who hates it when everyone in the room is wearing jeans/t-shirt, although I do that all the time, so I’m definitely a hypocrite…./) but I couldn’t pin it down to one style, since usually I go by the individual look.

But have I mentioned how scarves (yes, back to them) work with just about anything? They’re so darn easy but can look so good when paired up with the right style! I mean, I can wear them in the winter – duh – for warmth, or simply because it can dress up something boring and regular, or in the summer if it’s a light, fun scarf. and the best part is, you can find awesome deals on them. Bonus!

Hmm, outfit for the boots.
I think, bright red kerchief hem skirt on the short side, black top of some sort that’s got a v-neck and fitted but with loose sleeves, and lots of pirate-y gold jewelry. And big hoop earrings, if you have pierced ears or can find clip-ons.
No matter what you do, you have to have some scarlet as well as black and red. And over-the-top gold jewelry, obviously.

Everyone is all attempting to define their particular styles. I can’t say I’ve every thought about that too much–maybe even avoided thinking about it–besides ‘whatever I feel like/as long as it’s comfortable’. This may have something to do with my dislike for shopping (I’m really stingy, plus I have an entire closet full of clothing that I rarely even wear) and my disdain for fashion. (I don’t see what’s wrong wearing spots w/ stripes, or navy blue w/ black)

One thing I’m not worried about–being unique. Being a Muslim, headscarf wearing girl pretty much guaranteed that one right off the bat. I agree with starr. Scarves are totally essential to whatever I’m wearing, though maybe in a different way. I have around 80 at last count.

If I had to describe what I wear generally…It’s difficult. Long pants and a shirt + scarf, mostly. But it really depends on the occasion, the weather, etc. I could loosely separate my clothing into three groups–My shalwar kameez, my abayas and jilbabs, and western clothing.

Cake, trying to describe them is really hard to do. But if there was ever a place and a time for overdrawn description of clothing…The best description I’ve read for jilbabs is ‘floor length trench coat.’ Only in all different types of fabric and colors. I’ve always considered them more formal attire, though I know girls who were them every single day. I also wear them more in the winter, when I’m not as active and length and warmth are bonuses. Today I got two new ones form a friend of my mother’s who was selling them for $40 each. I immediately started to reconsider, bc that seemed really expensive to the girl who never shops. One’s rose pink, sorta shiny. the other is more trenchcoaty, has a belt, and is grey. I put on a fedora and I look like Carmen Sandiago, seriously.

Abayas come in more colors than just black too, despite what the media shows. You just need to know where to shop. Come to think of it, I only have one black abaya, and it’s awaiting mending. Anyhoo, they don’t have buttons down the front, which is their biggest stylistic difference with a jilbab. They also tend to be made of lighter fabrics. Left to my own devices, I don’t wear them or jilbabs as often. Maybe for Fridays, for Eid, if I need to get dressed quickly bc I can just put it over whatever I’m wearing.

And the embroidered dishdashas. Or the housedresses that make great shirts if you take a foot off the hem. But that’s enough about that.
Shalwar kameez are Pakistani clothing, and for some reason whenever I wear them people ask me if I’m Pakistani. I’m not. I just like their clothing. Because it’s got a top and pants, it’s easier to jump around in, IMO. Most of the ones I own are made of lighter fabric so I wear them in the summer.

I have tons of clothing I never wear. Have never worn. It’s kind of sad. I get a lot of my clothing as handmedowns–free clothing! Or it just appears in my closet when my mother buys it for me. I didn’t really care until recently, when I noticed that my mother is buying things I size too large, even after I’ve stopped growing. But I hate shopping! And I don’t need new clothes anyways.

My personal modesty standards for clothing is long and loose. Long sleeves, long pants. Shirts must cover my butt when I bend over. This translates into mid-thigh to knee length. Nightshirts, btw, a great for this. They aren’t pajamas if I don’t call them that! I have a few skirts but I don’t’ wear them much, as I can just throw a jilbab over my pajamas for the professional look and if I’m relaxing I’d rather wear pants anyhow. I don’t have a lot of jeans. Maybe two pairs? Mostly bc I never cared enough to buy many and they all tend to be skinny jeans anyhow.

In the house, I wear a t-shirt and pants. In the winter, the t-shirt becomes a sweatshirt. These also serve as my pajamas.

Anything else? Hmmm…I really want a real trenchcoat, but I’m not going to get one bc I’d probably never wear it. I don’t have any red scarves, for whatever reason. Or any dotted ones. I have a pair of culottes. I think they’re cool, despite only wearing them twice ever. I might not wear most of my closet on a regular basis, but that’s because I have like five outfits that I mix and match and wear continuously. Also I have a ton of clothing that needs to be mended. I wear my clothing into the ground, really.

And to prevent the question that always gets asked…i don’t overheat in warm weather wearing long sleeves bc I wear light fabrics and lighter colors. Also my clothing is pretty breezy. Of course I get hot–hundred degree weather will do that–but I’d like to think that it’s not to a ridiculous degree. And I don’t have to worry about sunscreen.

Oh, and I hate it when people try to dictate what I wear. With regards to length, pants, scarf, whatever. It’s my decision. Not theirs. I could give a lecture about it, but I won’t. This is a really long post anyhow. Kudos to anyone who read through it for caring about my clothes that much. *hands out cookies*

Re: Pajamas: In the winter I just wear pajama bottoms and t-shirts, but in the summer I switch to cotton shifts, which are less clammy in the heat and also much more attractive, not that it matters.

So, today was pretty awesome as far as clothes went. We had to do a project for English on The Great Gatsby, which involved dressing up, so I constructed a 20s costume. Now, I am not much of a fan of the 20s, and flappers in particular, but the costume was pretty amazing and I am Inordinately Pleased, probably because I did my homework and had a pretty good idea of what 20s fashion was before I began.

I wore a short (couple of inches above the knee) navy blue drop-waist dress over a cream silk shirt with a V-neck. I had peach stockings with dark pink flowers up the sides, suede T-straps, and a cream cloche with a bright jewel-toned flower brooch. And I made myself a huge strand of red and yellow beads that went all the way down to the drop waist and wore silver bangles. I even wore makeup, which made everyone stare at me. My hair’s too long, of course, and the dress wasn’t quite right, but all in all I had tons of fun. Now, what to wear tomorrow…It being the last day of school is has to be extra flammy, but I don’t know what.

151- Alice, I think you’d love this thing I invented. It is this theatre where everyone is referred to as if they’re on a ship (because the theatre consists of geeks and Hornblower geeks and they’re awesome and it is the best thing ever.) Well, anyway, the Master Electrician is a Lieutenant, for example. One of these people always dresses in boy’s historic clothing. And I want a british navy uniform too. I also want tons of actual little boy (well more like 10 or 11 year old, but that is what I meant by boy) historical clothing. I want naval and I want men’s and I also want boy’s. I have plenty of girl’s steampunk and such but I would like some boy’s.

I wish I knew where my flapper dress was. My mom stored it in our house and then forgot where. It is an actual flapper dress.

When it’s not blazingly hot outside, I generally wear some form of pants and some form of shirt. I like to think of my style as semi-cyberpunk, although I doubt anyone but me would describe it as such. When it’s hot outside, I wear as little as possible.

I’ve started wearing skirts a bit more than I used to – I used to never wear them and now I’ve worn them twice in six months. I’d possibly like more, or maybe a dress also, but I’m not very girly and I always feel kind of weird when wearing them. Also, pockets. They often don’t have pockets, and that is a problem (my favorite pair of pants has something like eight pockets).

yes pockets! girl’s cargo pants are so difficult to find sob sob. i had one pair lose a button a week or so ago and it was so saaad.

i am wearing the only semi-nice shirt i have left, because i am going job hunting, but it is sort of a bit big and i have to keep yelling at it “NO BOOBS” also because my tendency is to pull shirts DOWN (because i usually wear t-shirts and i don’t like the collar up against my neck) and so i’ll be like “NO BOOBS” *pull up* *few seconds later* *absentmindedly pull down* “ARRGH”

i mean it is not much of my boobs, just a bit of cleavage which is much less than most people wear on a regular basis. and i’ve shown much more in a dress or a tank top. it’s just weird on a shirt :-/

I think skirts with pockets could be cute. You might have to sew them on yourself, but you could sew on as many as you liked in interesting fabrics in complementary or matching colors.

I have a few skirts with pockets. Actually, come to think of it, only one pair comes to mind. That’s depressing.
But on the right skirt patch pockets would be completely adorable. I’m sure there are some out there.
But it’d have to be an a-line skirt or something. Something with gores. But I prefer the tired skirts in light fabrics, that don’t lend themselves to patch pockets. Or any pockets really, because if you put things in them that weight anything at all the skirt hangs funny. Alas. Purses. *tragic sigh* But mine’s more like a carry-all bag than a fancy purse. So it’s okay.
But still. POCKETS.

Today, my style was grunge. And by grunge I mean covered in tar.
Carhartts FTW! I actually really love those pants. Mine are kind of big, so they’re really loose and nice and just amazing in general. ♥

I actually like H&M – I’ve found quite a few nice outfits there, but it seems like the style is sort of a hit-and-miss thing. But I agree, I have noticed a change in their sizes which are becoming a little more “exclusive”. I’m pretty small, especially on the, err, chest/butt spectrum, so a lot of it is fine for me, but in general I usually hate stores that cut everything down so it’s all so tiny.

Here is what my friends wear that I neeeeeed to own:
Grey-and-black stripy socks that go all the way up to the knee. I used to have purple, black, and white stripy socks that did the same thing, but alas, they are too small now.
Long black skirt that goes down to the ankle. What’s WRONG with skirts that go below the knee? Why does no one wear them any more? They make my friend look like a witch and it is amazing!
Awesome shirts that are all fady in and out of one color, like pale lavender at the top and deep royal purple at the bottom.
STUFF WITH SKULLS ON IT. Ahem.
A TWLOHA shirt which confuses just about everybody who doesn’t know what it means. Double plus points.

Ahh, summertime.
Actually it’s not really summertime in earnest yet; not like shorts and bare arms and flowery dresses summertime. In fact today’s the first sunny day since school got out. But….soon enough.

I have a belt that’s just a loop of braided red, yellow, and brown yarn, that’s tied together at the end and has all sorts of little braids coming off with beads at the end to make tassels. I want to make another in blues and greens and actually wear them with jeans to make them (the jeans) cooler. And patch up my patchy jeans which make any outfit awesome the moment I put them on.

I think it may be a good day to pack up my winter clothes and make more room for the summery stuff…

Occasionally (and rather frequent occasions too), I am struck with a desire to look like I stepped out of an illustration for Little Red Riding Hood. This isn’t the idea that flashes through my mind, not in so many words, of course. Usually I file it all under “folk costume”, but really–Little Red Riding Hood. Minus the hood, but frequently including the cape.
Anyway, when I do this, I generally put on as many layers of petticoats as possible, and stockings that a) are handknit, b) look kind of lacy, or c) have suitable patterns on them. Then I put on a dirndl dress and my red cape or a handknit shawl and sometimes a belt. And ankle boots, and I feel very fairy-tale at least until I have to do something like go to school (backpacks have ruined many an outfit…).
Only today, I’m having problems…I have the red skirt which is very full, an the knee stockings with hearts and birds on them, and….that’s about it. No top, no shoes…And furthermore, I’m dangerously close to the red-white-and-blue trap that is the Fourth. I’m trying to avoid it by throwing a lot of brown in there and I’m thinking about going and mutilating one of my t-shirts now…ack. I can see it though in my mind’s eye. It looks quite nice. Only trouble is, I like to wear it as a t-shirt.

Looking back, it is amazing how infrequently I posted on this thread, given how ridiculously in love with costuming I am.

Today I’m experimenting with steampunk. I’ve tried to pull it off a thousand times before…I really want it to just work, you know? My mom went to the country fair and says she got really sick of looking at steampunk costumes, because they were everywhere. But there aren’t any HERE, and I just want to try it. It doesn’t need to be my everyday wear or anything.

I am currently wearing: light grey pants with lots of buttons, tucked into knee-high black boots. A creamy silk shirt, a dark grey vest, a smoke-stained silk scarf, and a red crushed-velvet coat with gold buttons that goes down past my knees. And a top hat (my present from the country fair ). It’s too big, so I put all my hair up on the top of my head, so the top hat doesn’t slip down too far.
I think it’s a good base, but to be properly steampunk, I need more accessories. Belts are always good, and I have a great brown leather one with a huge buckle, but it’s too small to go around my hips and further up my vest gets in the way. So I scrapped that and am back to where I started. Still, it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Alice: I love costumes and the idea of wearing them, but I never actually do things like that. In the summer it’s running sorts+oversized t-shirt or tank top when I have to wear things. Maybe it’s partially because we hardly use the air conditioning (I am dying right now in shorts and tank, and I even folded the tank up so it qualifies more like sports bra than shirt).

And during the winter I am cold and miserable and just wear sweatpants+oversized shirt a lot of the time. I remember walking into english one day, and everyone was like “Aww Jade ruined it (in a nice way though, I love these people),” because everyone had randomly dressed nicely except for me and Amber XD

I still desperately want to buy the boots mentioned in posts 142. I have moneies now from graduation, so I’m going to set ~$70 aside for them and just try to find some clothes a some point, I guess. But I may have to get those online too as my trip to the mall and nearby stores yielded NOTHING thank would have worked with them which was sad.

171- Seriously though, just wear TONS of layers in winter. It can still look really nice. Legwarmers, tights, socks, boots, skirts, sweaters… Even in the summer I rarely wear fewer than two layers.

Grr. Sometimes getting dressed is just an ordeal. Because I REFUSE to wear jeans and a t-shirt (so boring…) but nothing in my closet will satisfy me. I am currently wearing polka-dot kneesocks, green Converse, and a denim dress, but it bound to change in a few minutes.
Yesterday I wore my Gunne Sax dress, and a random woman in the store got really excited because she had worn one to her senior prom.

Here you get a description of the fashions I am seeing at arts camp. (Yes, I cannot shut up about this place. Deal.)
Dyed hair is way, way more common. Back at home, you can safely think of someone with dyed hair as “that person with the dyed hair” and know who you’re thinking about. Here, one out of every two people has dyed hair. As for me, I approve. Besides, one of my roommates knows how to dye hair, so I may end up with purple hair by next week. Also, waaay more mohawks.
Hats. Hats are good. Fedoras. Fedoras are fantastic. All the Visual Arts and Theater majors seem to have a black fedora which they wear over their blue-and-pink striped hair.
Waaaay more people have glasses. Nobody knows why.
Half the people make their own clothes. And they are beautiful and I love them. And my hair-dying roommate is currently wearing a T-shirt that has a unicorn with a corn cob for a horn. And it is stranger to have plain jeans than to have them doodled on. And nothing is more likely to make you a pariah and shunned from the community than making someone else a pariah, or shunning them from the community, because they dress weirdly. I approve.

Completely agree that Fedoras are fantastic. But I don’t really understand the trend of glasses. I mean, I understand that they’re a new trend, but don’t understand why they are. I’ve seen many people with glasses. I wear glasses, because I have to. Not because I think they’re cute and trendy. I see people left and right with glasses. You almost can’t even tell if they need them or not.

In preparation for two weeks in Ashland, where it is sweltering hot, I am making lots of light knit skirts. This was also sparked by a terror that I had ruined my favorite skirt by spilling vinaigrette down the front, but a little stain remover hastily applied solved that problem. Since then, I have made a skirt on the pattern of the one that was nearly ruined, and altered another to make it wearable. The first is an a-line skirt made out a neutral stretchy fabric patterned with owls in brown, orange, teal, and green. The second is a green knee-length tiered skirt with ridiculous amounts of fabric, and I covered the seams where the tiers meet with purple bias tape, thus covering several holes and giving the whole skirt a fresher look.

ALICE MY LOVE! I was thinking about you the other day. We went to a few shops and I bought a darling vest. It’s short and fitted and dark grey and has two buttons in the front. Great description, I know. >.< But a few weeks ago I was wishing I had one, so I found this one, it fit, and I figured I could justify buying it by the fact that I rarely pay for my clothing. Anyway. I wore it last night with my loose brown capri-length pants, a green v-neck and my sailor's hat, and looked quite dashing, if I do say so myself. Perfect for the girl's night it ended up being, which was only improved by the fact that I had awesome clothes.
But I digress. After that shop (which had all manner of awesome clothing pieces that I somehow resisted purchasing) we went to a vintage store and I found a gorgeous 1950's dress that I adored, but couldn't buy. *sigh* It was $45 but I'd have demolished it in my seabag. But it was so adorable. *sigh again* But that store was awesome as well, all kinds of gorgeous things and I was thinking about you the entire time we were there.
One of the girls I was with found an adorable cap, kind of a 30's of 40's style I think, and it looked so utterly adorable on her. She didn't get it though, as there'd be nowhere to wear it, and again, it'd have gotten destroyed. But she looked like an elf, it was so cute. It just looked dumb on the rest of us.

Anyway. That's my clothing saga for now.

175- Awww. I love vests. I really want a fitted one. Mine is a men’s and it’s HUGE so I took it in in the back and it’s much better now. It’s pretty cool actually; it’s very dashing. But I’d like a little fitted one too.

Packing for the SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL today. I have so many clothes… They take up the biggest of my suitcases. I even brought my lovely blue satin-y/brocade-y dress which I’ve worn ONCE for when I go see Hamlet. -dreamy sigh- And I made an absolutely DARLING a-line skirt out of a tan knit fabric with owls and hearts in brown, green, orange, and turquoise. Wheeee clothes.

Currently wearing: Kind of a slate-y turqoise knee-pants (if that makes any sense…) with rouching up the side and orange accents. A white scoop-neck tee with cap sleeves, sprinkled with round stylized flowers in orange, green, and two shades of blue.

I have a new watch. It’s a wristwatch, and not a high-end one, but it’s old and has a pretty face and ticks really loudly.

!!! SUCH a good clothes day! My friend L, who just got back from a year in Japan, gave me a ruffly plaid skirt–very high-waisted, very Lolita. Then my friend J gave me a pair of flared plaid trousers, a brown plaid shirt-dress, a stripy skirt, a velvet vest/jacket, and two pairs of boots: one black flat pair, and one high-heeled reddish-brown pair. YAY CLOTHES.

Ohh, my latest clothing hauls!
In Milwaukee I got a red plaid shirt that looks flannel but isn’t. I love it though, it’s made to fit a GIRL, and a girl MY SIZE! It’s also got a butt-ruffle, for lack of a better term. It’s awesome. I love it. It’s entirely adorable.

Then yesterday I went out and exercised extreme self-control. I only ended up buying brown striped leggings, a blue and grey striped shirt that is adorable and boots.
I’ve wanted boots for awhile. These are very plain, black patent leather with a low heel. They’re upper calf height. I want to wear them with skirts. NOW. But I can’t, because those skirts are at home. A week, and then I shall have all my clothes again, which is exciting.

Right now I’m wearing a forest green t-shirt (v-neck), and my leggings under my work shorts. My work shorts are really short. So it’s nice to have my whole legs covered. Earlier I was wearing the boots too, but I thought it looked dorky, a skirt would have worked, but not the shorts. So I took them off and wore flip-flops. Now I’m barefoot on the couch though. Movie time!

*sigh* As usual, this thread is so dead.

I’m continuing my love affair with tights. Footless tights, to be exact. I am wearing a deliciously buttery soft pair right now with a lovely sweater dress thing and a short skirt underneath. You can’t see the skirt, but it provides pockets, which is A Good Thing. Also, for when I start overheating and need to shed a layer I won’t be all “ahh running around in tights” which I dislike unless you’re jogging. And I dislike jogging, too, so even then it’s dubious.
But yeah. Sort of tan sweater dress with a big floppy funnel/turtle neck (I despise turtle necks, but this one is nice and loose, so it’s more drape-y than suffocating). That goes to just above my knees, then I’m wearing soft dark grey footless tights, with stripy green socks over them (they’re normal length, not ankle or knee-hi), and my gorgeous wooden-soled clogs. These are clogs, but they’re not the open-backed kind you might think of. They’re a t-strap style and a reddish brown.

I love t-strap shoes.

I also feel obliged to mention that although I love tights, I do not like wearing them as pants. I used to, before I discovered jeans, but that was like late 90’s and early 2000’s. Ew. I’ve been seeing people wear tights as pants lately and it’s depressing. Yes, it’s comfortable, but no, it’s not really attractive. I guess it was inevitable though, what with skinny jeans getting tighter and thinner…. *sigh*

I’m making two skirts. Long ones, the kind I can wear and be awesome and get odd looks. *sigh* People at my school are like cookie cutouts of each other. Well, some of them anyway…
One is layered, and it involves completations and patterns and gathering and I’m really going to need help with it. But it’s still going to be awesome. I’m going to make three layers out of black and white patterned cotton fabric (You know, black and white polka dots, paisleys, ecetera.) and one is going to be plain black, and I’m going to sew this really nice white lace I got for my birthday over it.

The other is going to not be layered, but be flowy and long. I’m going to make it out of this really cool strechy fabric that has Chinese characters and stuff on it.

I love dressing up in costumes and wearing them to school. I’ve dressed up slightly steampunk, with my top hat and steampunk necklace and jewelry. That was fun, as people were like: Why are you wearing gears around your neck?
I also dressed up like a gypsy, and wore a gypsy head covering, bangles, and a swishy skirt. I drew eyes on the backs of my hands and went around asking people if they wanted to know their futures. Most people replied: Um..no.. *scared face* Thought bubble: weirdo.

Ah well, I just would’ve predicted their deaths.

Today I wore one of my favorite summer dresses winter-ified. It’s kind of salmon pink with a floral sort of design, knit fabric, scoop neck, tiered knee-length skirt and short cap sleeves. Under this I wore a green scoop neck knit shirt, grey footless tights and stripy black knee socks and tall black boots.

Tomorrow I’m wearing my only pair of skinny-jeans (which aren’t actually that tight, but whatever), a grey waffle-knit three-quarter length sleeved shirt that has a partial button-down front with ruffles on either side of the buttons, and my short dark grey vest. When I wear it with that shirt it makes the ruffles look somewhat reminiscent of a cravat. To me at least. I like it. I’ll also probably wear my purple/red/black swirly sneakers. They’re awesome beyond belief, and look rather European, which is an added bonus. Also they fit perfectly and I got them for $4 at Goodwill. Unfortunately they’re not very well made, so they’re starting to fall apart a bit, which is incredibly depressing, as they are THE BEST. I love them with skirts, jeans, other style pants, dresses, anything.
Also I’ll probably wear my pea coat. It’s dark grey wool, double-breasted with anchor buttons and glorious. I’m going to be rather monotone tomorrow, except for The Shoes, of course. And maybe I’ll wear a colorful necklace. But then again maybe I won’t, because I’ll be too tired to think of it. Meh.

I’m really wishing I could afford things from Anthropologie. I still enjoy looking through their things as inspiration though, same with Garnet Hill, another favorite.
I actually was in an Anthropologie store this summer in Chicago, there was a trench coat that I wanted very, very badly. Unfortunately the price tag was well over a hundred dollars. *sigh*

Clothes are expensive. Most of my clothes I get at secondhand places, and even then if you added up everything I was wearing on any given day it’s likely to total upwards of $50, even when the majority of the clothes I wear are free.

I still need to get a pair of high-top converses. I’d also really like those knee-high ones, but I don’t know that I could really justify them.

I also should probably cull my wardrobe and just get rid of the awful things I don’t really like but end up wearing because they’re convenient and I’m planning on wearing the other things I like better another day. Every now and then I actually do go on a streak of dressing creatively and well and I love it. Then I slip back into the jeans-tshirt-sneakers-whatever rut.

I also need to start wearing what I think looks good, instead of worrying about my parents (or anyone else, really) thinking I look stupid. *siiigh*

Triple post? Again? Really? *sigh*

Awesome thing: discovering that you have a new idea for clothes you didn’t wear before but thankfully hadn’t gotten around to getting rid of.
Like this one really pretty but fancy blouse I have. It’s gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t think I’d ever wear it, because I didn’t have anything that would go with it. It’s got all this lace and pintucking on the front, a standup collar and lace on the sleeves, which are slightly leg-o-mutton style. Outrageous.
BUT, I was thinking, and it turns out if looks quite nice with a navy blue almost-mini-skirt that’s kind of casual styling, green cabled tights with navy blue pinstriped knee socks and short brown boots. It dresses up the skirt, tights and knee socks, and the boots fit perfectly with the old-fashioned-ness of the shirt and it all works. I think it works, at least, and that’s good enough for me.
I also remembered a long shirtdress-y kind of thing I have. I got it with a vague idea of wearing it as a swimsuit cover-up at the beach or something, but never really clicked with it because although I liked some of the styling and it fit perfectly, the fit was that of a shapeless bag.
However, with tights (it’s knee length and pale blue, by the way), tall boots and a belt around my natural waist it looks quite nice and put-together. I’m going to wear it tomorrow.

So yay for reinventing the image of clothes you thought you hated. Or at least clothes you didn’t think you’d wear.

Anthropologie: oh fiddler…i know your pain. I made the mistake of subscribing to their email updates, and now every so often I’ll get an email about a fabulous deal they have, which is usually “This $160 dress is now $100! We know, we’re too kind” *sobs*
It’s all worth the money and everything but…;__;

I know what you mean about old things serving new and unexpected purposes! That always feels very satisfying.

Recently I’ve been reading about a fashion style/subculture in Japan that I think some people here might like…it’s called “mori girl” or forest girl, and it’s a sort of flowy, subdued look…I couldn’t dress like that everyday but there are definitely times where that’s exactly what I feel like wearing!

I just looked up mori girl and I have to admit, I do like the look. If I wasn’t so fond of low-maintenance style–by which I mean practically no style at all–I would definitely try it. The only issue I have is that the colors are bit more subdued than what I prefer and what looks good on me.

Oh, practically every piece of clothing I bought for the past four years has been blue. Or green. If it isn’t, chances are I didn’t pick it out. (Which actually happened quite a bit. Am I the only person whose mother still does most of the clothes shopping, when you’re not even around to try the pieces?)

My aunt finally called me out on it and told me to stop buying blue so much. I’ve listened, sort of. Of course, I haven’t done any major clothes shopping since then either, but I think I’m at least somewhat more open to buying colors like orange and pink now.

I agree that the thought of not having all my clothes with me in a dorm is a sad one. However, if can also be looked at as a chance to choose the very best and wear that. But from the sound of it all of your clothes are fantastic, so to not have all of them is sad indeed.
I can do without a fair amount of mine. Or I can take those and get new ones while at college and away from parental tsks and odd looks. Whoo!

Ah, sewing days. The wonderfulness they invoke…! I had a bout of creative spirit (helped along by the sewing day. Good times!) and I have now created handwarmers that are absolutely amazing. They’re cut from an old shirt, and I had to hand-hem them but it was completely worth it. It didn’t hurt that I sewed them while watching Doctor Who with my best friend. (Actually, it was a marathon…) I also made a steampunk hat, by adding goggles (Well, swimming goggles, but, with a bit of a touch up and a few gears to make it look as if they actually do something, nobody can tell.) to my top hat. So now it’s really steampunk looking. And it’s amazing. And I also finally sewed my steampunk-ish skirt, so that’s happy!

Warning: sewing rant ahead.

My mom and I are also trying to make a tiered skirt, with black and white fabrics. And it looks really cool so far.
But.
The. bottom. layer. Is. 12. feet. long. It is taking forever to sew! It feels like miles. And I am getting so irritated with it, I may rip it to shreds. But probably not. At least I convinced my mom to do most of the gathering, which is wonderful, so yeah.
It’s still going to be a beautiful skirt.

I got my gown for Carnegie Hall! I look absolutely gorgeous in it. It’s really hard to describe because it’s so unusual, but it’s all black and strapless (I’m having cap sleeves sewn on when I bring it to get altered) with chiffon loops hanging at the sides and small fabric flowers at the waistline. It sounds gaudy and ugly from that description, but it’s not. It’s classic and unusual. I’m going to get or make a fascinator for my hair.
Also, I’m making a dress to wear for congresses. It’s an infinity dress, which is basically a skirt with two long pieces of stretchy fabric sewed onto it which you wrap around yourself as a top. Once again, it’s very hard to describe. Google it, por favor.

Thoughts: people should wear what they like and not care what people think of them. I agree with Midnight Fiddler; it’s completely unfair to be like “oh, girls can wear whatever” and then have “guys can’t wear anything girlish”. Well, I mean, you can, but then people are incredibly quick to judge/make fun of. That irritates me so much…

Meh, I think skinny jeans/tight fitting shirts look better on guys, for the most part, than they do on girls. Well, except for jegging-grade skinny jeans. I have strong negative feelings about those things. But, I have weird ideas about fashion…

And I think purple highlights (on anyone) are absolutely amazing. I dunno why, but I love purple hair.

1. Usually I plan ahead, so I know what to pull out of my closet, or I have ensembles that just always look good.
2. & 3. I haunt thrift stores, fashion recycling stores, outlet stores, overstock stores, and search for sales online (I’m not as obsessive as I sound, really). Usually I know what I want (i.e. new jeans, sweaters for winter) but sometimes I find really good deals. It’s really a question of learning where to look and when to look. I try to never buy at full price.

okay i am not well dressed mostly, BUT as a once despiser of shopping, here is my advice. figure out if you shop better with or without people. i could never shop with my mom because she would hold up something (to my eyes) hideous beyond all reason, and i would get frustrated, and she would get frustrated, and so on. although actually she has picked out some things when i’m not with her that are great…ANYWAY

basically just grab a bunch of stuff that looks okay and see if actually it is awesome. with me if i try on six things i might only find one that i like :/ also with certain stores like forever 21 (loll) it’s kind of hit and miss.

207 (R_D)~ Depends on the guy. Personally I don’t really prefer it, but then, if I had my way guys would still be dressing in formal clothes from the early 1800’s. Or maybe working-style 1930’s. Or sailor uniforms. But yeah.
As long as the skinny jeans on the guy aren’t SO TIGHT that I can see EVERYTHING then it’s fine. Same with shirts. I don’t want to see guy-cleavage if they’re still wearing their shirt. But better a little fitted than huge and floppy. Purple highlights, sure, why not?
I think guys should be allowed to dress however they want. I mean, girls are allowed to wear dresses, skirts, pants, any length, any color, but as soon as a dude wears purple or pink or any “girly” color they’re all HAHAHAHAHA YOU LOOK LIKE A FAG, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! And that’s just dumb. Guys can look fabulous too, as one of my guy friends who claims he’s straight says. Nah, I’m actually pretty sure he’s straight. Even though he likes wearing tye-dye and bright yellow aviator sunglasses and the occasional women’s swimsuit.

But yeah, this has kind of turned into a longer rant than I expected. Guys, wear what you want to wear and ignore those who make fun of it. GUYS CAN LOOK FABULOUS TOO. Oh god, now I feel obligated to take back all the mean things I’ve ever said to Jamie (aforementioned friend). At least they were in jest.

209~ I don’t know that I’m particularly well-dressed, but….as far as how long I take on it? It totally depends. Sometimes I’ll sit there staring blankly at my clothes trying to figure out what to wear for what seems like forever, and other times I’ll wake up thinking “today I’m going to wear this, this, this and that” before I even get out of bed. I also have certain things that I wear together frequently that I can fall back on. Like brown pinstriped linen pants + green scoop neck + vest OR blue lace cami over + brown plaid sneakers OR woven mary janes OR brown boots.
And because of the way we do laundry in my household I’ll often kind of plan out what I’ll wear for certain days when I’m going somewhere and then schedule what I wear and when to make sure I’ll have what I need when I need it.
Honestly, most of my clothes come from a clothes mission not far away form where I live. I take stuff I don’t wear there, and take stuff that I want. It’s a cool system, it’s like clothes recycling and it’s all free. Of course, it also means that if something doesn’t fit, you just don’t get it, and some days there’s absolutely nothing there worthwhile, but I’ve found some really good stuff there, including at least three of my favorite pairs of jeans and I don’t even know how many favorite shirts.
If I don’t go there I’ll usually go to goodwill or some other thrift store. We have a pace called Act II in my town, which is a little more upscale, so you get overall better stuff, but it’s more pricey. I’ve gotten some fantastic jackets there for barely anything though. You just have to look, their pricing is quite sporadic. Also, Plato’s Closet is good. They’re like Act II, only they carry only brand name stuff, and have generally very good prices. There’s the odd “whoa, what why is this so expensive?” item, but overall they’re good prices, for what you’re getting.
Criteria for my searching:
1.) It must be something I like and can see myself wearing frequently
2.) It must be something that I think would look good on me, taking into account unique body shapes, etc.
3.) I must be able to think of at least two outfits I could make with it using clothes I already have. If it doesn’t meet this, I must think of what other clothing I would need to obtain before I could wear it, and how likely I am to find such an item (or items), and how I would wear them, together or separately.
4.) It should be an item that I’ve already considered or wanted previous to the shopping expedition. If not, extra deep contemplation is required. I’m not a fan of spontaneous purchases unless it’s something basic or extremely useful that I just know I won’t be able to live without or find again without selling my soul to the devil or something like that.

210 (axa)~ I totally agree. I hate hate shopping with my mom, because she picks out clothes appropriate for a 50-some year old woman and when I say they’re cute (thinking for her) she tries to force them on me and it all goes downhill.
I do enjoy shopping with friends though. Generaly they seem to have a better handle on what kind of clothing I’d wear, would fit me, and would look good. And they’re more likely to be gentle if something doesn’t work as well as I thought it might.

So today I was thinking “oh, I’ll just be at home studying all day I’ll just throw on whatever”. And then SURPRISE today I get to play music at a nursing home with mom. >.< I think I might just change before we go. I mean, I love jeans and I love my Mostly Harmless 3/4 length sleeve shirt and all, but….not exactly what I had in mind. *sigh*
I hate it when that happens. And I've been trying to dress better lately too. This was the first time I've just copped out on at least trying. Gr.

209- How long do I spend on it?
Way. Too. Long.
I mean, I look all right on a day-to-day basis, because I have lots of things that go together and look good and I can kind of throw an outfit together. For an actual good outfit though, it could take up to half an hour with trying things on, hunting for more things in the pile that is my bedroom, and designing whole outfits before realizing that I don’t have any socks/shoes/shirts that match. Or that I wore that two days ago, or that I’ve worn heels three days this week and might do my legs a serious long-term injury or whatever.
Of course, it would help if my clothes weren’t all thrown in a pile on the floor so I can’t find anything, and if my brain was coherent at 6 AM. Strangely, outlandish outfits are sometimes easier to come up with than subtle coordinated ones. Big boots, long coats, flowing sleeves/skirts/scarves are always fun and generally quick too.

Where do I get it… Thrift stores, hand-me-downs, clothing swaps. Presents. Vintage stores. Some more conventional places, like the usual department stores. I haven’t grown for four years, so I still have all those clothes I’ve been accumulating for a decade and just grew into when I became a teenager. Most of them survived the fire and then I got lots more when I thought I’d lost them all. I still have a lot of clothes from back when we lived in a town with a clothing bank (what Fiddler described) that are pretty fantastic. As well as some that suck.

As far as what I want to buy, if it looks good, feels good, and isn’t too much money, I’ll buy it whether I need it or not. Which is how I end up with a closet so tightly packed that it’s on the brink of mildew and still not enough space for all my clothes. No restraint.

Today I’m wearing:
–light green knee-length skirt
–almost kelly-green full-skirted sweater-dress, a few inches shorter than my skirt
–pale knee-socks with green and brown roses
–green and black picture-jasper necklace
–pale sweater-coat
–black boots

It’s not the most original outfit–the majority of the components are things I wear all the time, but the coat, necklace, and the co-ordinations of the colors makes it work quite well.

212- I’ve been copping out all the time lately. “Brr, it’s cold.” -jeans- -sweater- -wool socks- And then I just don’t change for work.

Guess what I did today.
I was James Madison (for a debate attempting to emulate the Constitutional Convention).
Outfit: ballet tights, black flats (the fold-able kind), black pants folded up under themselves (imitation knickerbockers), white button-down, oversized black coat, hair in ponytail w/ black ribbon. Oh, did you know that when one takes a white racerback tank top and folds it in half so the arm holes line up, then places it around one’s neck and loops the bottom section through the hole, it makes a surprisingly authentic James Madison scarf?

I’m currently debating with myself as to whether I should talk about the terms you used for the historical clothes. Part of me is screaming about an “educational opportunity” and the other part is screaming about being an “insufferable know-it-all”.
Okay, I’ll just do it and trust you won’t think of me as a total prick.
Knickerbockers are a later garment, the short, fitted pants of the 18th century are called breeches. The scarf you’re referring to is a cravat. If you have any questions about clothes of the 18th century I’m always happy to talk about them.

Items I Wish to Add to My Wardrobe:

-x-hi converse. I’ve decided on a length, these are it. As much as I may drool over the ones that go up to the knee, they’d be woefully impractical for me, as I don’t wear many miniskirts, which is what they’d look fantastic with. The hi-tops, I love them and they’re classic and all and I’d love to have a pair in every color, but if I’m going to get ONE pair I think the black x-hi’s. Because I could wear them up or folded down, and probably still manage with them under pants.

-earrings. I want to change my earrings. I got my ears pierced last month and I only have the starter pair. I like them and all, but I’d like to be able to wear more than just little shiny black studs. Hot Topic has some “faux plugs” that are basically plain earrings that look like the gauged plugs. For whatever reason, I really want a pair. xD
I also want to get some other pretty ones for dressing up and suchlike.

-plaid shoes (tan/brown/orange), tye-dyed socks (blue, green, yellow, purple, red, orange) I may change my shoes later, or I may not, but for now, that’s what I’m wearing.
-greenish/tealish corduroy blazer-thing from a skirt suit I have and like but have never worn as a set

My… er, would “idiot hair” be the right term? Becasuse it’s rather flat and hangs in the middle of my face. When I go my hair cut in my angly-thin last year, that part was cut to the hairline unlike the rest of my bangs, which were the longest part of my hair. But that’s been growing so it goes down to my lower lip now. But anyway, it’s been blue. I got my hands on some Sharpies, so my hair has a streak of turquoise in it. It’s kind of awesome, but my mom hates it.

My usual ensemble of clothing is school sweater (warm) overgraphic tee with jeans and ballet flats, but sometimes I change it up. Alex says that my style is “being able to pull off anything not in style.” I don’t own a pair of skinny jeans, I hate the leg-stranglers, so all my jeans are boot cut and I need more. I have too black-suede boots, both were bought for cosplay but I wear them anyway. The first, bought at a North County swapmeet, goes up to halfway under my knee and has buckles and the toe is kind of cowboy bootish. The second was bought in a South County GoodWill, where I had a major haul of clothes and stuff. The have false laces on the side and go up to my knees and have heels, but they’re pumps so it’s okay. I love both dearlydearlydearly.

There’s this discount store in Anaheim that has the best clothes, most of which are under $20, so that’s a fifth of my closet.

I really want to take my friends shopping, as I actually like doing that (in inexpensive stores; I’m so stingy haha), but they’re all under the impression that I’m very apathetic person about it just because I don’t like what’s in style. But one of these days all drag them to Anaheim and all over the county to discount places and I will prove them wrong!!

It’s attractive (in my opinion), but seems detached from the rest of my body. It doesn’t look that way, but it’s a different sensation having my hair so much shorter than normal (it’s not a very short cut, but it’s significantly shorter than before-now it reaches almost below my bust, if you can call it that, when before it reached the bottom of my ribcage). There are more visible layers than before, and it’s curved at the ends. I like it, but it’ll take some getting used to.

sbf~ Yeah, I know what you mean about feeling really light headed after a haircut – I’ve gone from hair below my waist to just at my chin. I actually hurt my neck because I was holding my head so differently without all the weight. And then when I went from bust-level to beatles haircut a few years ago I had a similar experience. But even little changes like a few inches off can feel very dramatic. Haircuts are an interesting experience.

Speaking of hair, I’m still contemplating dreadlocks, and my hair is decidedly longish now. My bangs are down to my nose, and the lowest layers in the back are over-the-collar length, if that makes sense.
I could probably do dreads now, but they’d be short, and could potentially shorted up a few inches with the dreading, and I don’t really want to have them sticking out from my head at all angles. But I’m still thinking about it!

I had thought that tomorrow I’d wear my fancy blouse, blue miniskirt, green cabled tights, blue knee socks and short boots (an outfit I quite like), but I’ve changed my mind.
I think I’ll wear black tights, grey almost kilt-style skirt, grey waffle-knit with ruffles shirt, dark grey cropped vest, purple sneakers (if it’s not too slushy and gross) and the peace earrings, because they’re quite loud and will stand out plenty, like a visual BOOM. Also, the purple sneakers have red in them, so it’ll all go. Whee!

I went to Act II today. I ended up with two pairs of jeans and one stripy waffle-knit v-neck.
I found a pair of turquoise skinny jeans. Turquoise. Unfortunately they were a size 3 and didn’t fit over my thighs. It was very sad. Then another pair (that I got) were a size 2. I am deeply confused by women’s clothing sizes.

I’ve heard that certain brands change around their sizings to make the women feel better about what they’re buying or something ridiculous like that, as in a 4 in one store could be a 2 in another or something like that. And then of course there’s the long or short specifications, and the occasional store that insists on “small, medium, large” sizings. I hate shopping for jeans.

Another confusing thing is that I found a pair of jeans the same brand and style as another pair I already had, same except for the new ones are 6 regular, where the old ones were 6 short. Out of curiosity I held them up to each other to see how much shorter the short ones were. Interesting findings: the legs were very close to the same length, within and inch of difference. Then I noticed that from the waist to the inseam of the pants were different–the short ones were longer in that area. Hmm. After lining up the inseams I discovered that they were maybe 2 inches different.
Another oddity, however, is that the 6 short pair (which I’m wearing today) feel snugger than the 6 regular ones. Perhaps because the previous owners of the 6R pair had thicker thighs, who knows. At any rate, I think they’ll do just fine.

I’ve never found any substitute for trying on the items. When I was in my 30s my dresses ranged from size 8 to 16. The 8 was kind of an oddity, though, because my height ensured that I normally could not wear anything smaller than a 10, even when I was stick-figure skinny. When it came to women’s trousers, I gave up completely even before I got to college.

226.2 (Axa)~ Yeah, they’re quite inconsistent. Men’s clothing sizes are more likely to be based on measurements, waist and inseam, so the sizes are the same no matter what brand you buy or where. Women’s clothes, on the other hand, don’t correlate to measurements. Yes, most brands will have a size chart that plug in sizes for different measurements around body parts, but it’s not regular. That’s why I was so excited to get my Carhartts, their women’s sizes are an arbitrary size number, followed by an inseam length, so I got 6 with a 30″ inseam. And they fit! Amazing! I wish more clothing companies did that, even if they insisted on sticking to the outrageous arbitrary sizes. So what if a 6 sounds better than a 25/30 (approximately my waist and inseam lengths)? I’d much rather always look for that than wonder why these size 2 jeans from old navy fit relatively as well as these other style size 6 jeans from old navy, but these size 3 ones from a different brand don’t even fit over my thighs?
I’m not even kidding. Size 6 short “the diva” skinny jeans from old navy are only a bit looser on me than these old navy “skinny” jeans that are a size 2. What gives? Yes, the size 2 ones are tighter and have a lower rise in the back and don’t feel exactly the same, but I can wear both pairs comfortably and they offer about the same level of coverage and don’t feel remarkably different.

I’m too cheap to actually shop for new clothes when I can find perfectly good stuff at goodwill or other thrift stores, so most of the time I either end up tramping on the hems or chopping them off. 227.1 (Rebecca)~ I generally try things on because, as I’ve said, I shop at a lot of thrift stores, so it’s right there. Whenever I order from a catalog I make sure I can exchange or return it with as little hassle as possible, and even then check and recheck the measurements a million times.
Swimsuits are particularly awful. Thankfully now though just about anywhere you go you can get mix and match separates, which is a boon for me, as the two halves of my body apparently don’t match. I think I’ve whined about this on here before.

Jean sizes = arggg. I happen to have rather long legs (in comparison to the rest of my body, anyway.) and yet still be 12 and way too thin (I eat. I really do.), so 8s (in girls) actually sort of fit me (Even though they really shouldn’t.)- they’re just way too short. A size 1 in womans/juniors (depending on the crazy sizing) is actually about the length of jeans that fit me, but then they’re usually too wide in the waist. Irritating.
Speaking of pants/crazy clothes people (sort of, anyway), I noticed a few days ago that there seemed to be an abundance of skinny cargo jeans. What would be the general opinion of this…certainly different…fad?

I have 2 pairs of skinny cargo pants, but they don’t have as many pockets as I want. The pockets can be used and I think they look how they’re supposed to on me.

I would recommend trying on pants from a bunch of places, and once you find a brand that works just stick with it.
When I was younger and smaller I would always get pac-sun jeans. Now I usually get Refuge, and always size 3 or 5 (both fit me). I know Refuge always runs the same size, so when I want new jeans I can just go to the thrift store and find Refuge in my size and I know they’ll fit without even trying them on.
I have jeans from other places too, but it’s way easier just to get the same brand in different styles.

229 (R_D)~ As long as you like it and you wear it because you like how it looks and makes you feel for yourself, then it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. That’s my opinion on eyeliner, orange bodysuits, mohawks, piercings, tattoos, high heels or any other fashion statement that someone decides to make.
If, on the other hand, you’re trying to get attention, offend someone, disobey rules or dress codes for the sake of being disobedient or please someone other than yourself, then I have an issue with it because of the intent, not the actual clothes/body modifications.

Clothes… I don’t really have a clothing style at all, mostly because I’m too shy to have the courage to wear unusual stuff (which is what I like) in public… Basically, I always wear jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and a sweatshirt, or boys’ or knee-length jean shorts and a T-shirt, depending on the season. Shoes are my old Merrell or Crocs, both of which I’ve heard are supposed to be really ugly shoes. But what the cake. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with people mistaking me for a boy — I find it slightly annoying sometimes, but on the other hand I’m so used to it now that I don’t really mind. (I am growing my hair out currently, mostly as an experiment.) So I tend to wear gender-neutral or even boys’ clothes, especially when it comes to shorts. Because I hate the halfway-up-your-butt things which seem to be the only kind of girls’ shorts that you can get nowadays… >.<
I have an orange sweatshirt with the seams on the outside and a slightly torn-up look which I love, and also some really comfy hand/armwarmers which I wore all the time when I was at home. If was brave enough, I'd love to go totally steampunk and/or piratical everyday…
I'd like to learn to knit or crochet so I could make myself some more armwarmers or legwarmers, and also to sew so I could make myself… well, anything. Unfortunately, time is a bit short…

Out of curiosity, how many people here cosplay, and what do you cosplay as?

I hate those shorts too!! It’s too small to be considered pants. I don’t shop for shorts anywhere anyone else gets shorts because that’s the only type you can find; I like the ones that come down to the knees. Oh, and I also love cargo pants. I can knit but the only thing I can make is scarves. I can crochet but the only thing I can make are those really long chains. I have one that’s like 200 feet long and growing; I keep it rolled up in a big blob.

I’ve been trying to put more effort into dressing creatively recently. It’s fun. I have a lot of clothes, since I haven’t been doing much growing for the past few years, so there’s plenty to mess around with. I have a lot of plaid button-ups, and also a patchwork-y colorful one*. I wear skirts sometimes now, which I never thought would happen but it has. I always wear shorts, leggings, or tights underneath though.

Pants- Skinny jeans. I like skinny jeans. I’m short (5’0″), with small bones, long limbs, and a short torso. The way I’m built, normal jeans are either too short or waaaay too baggy, and last year I found that skinny jeans solve that completely. Skinny jeans fit a LOT better, and are long enough, and I always get the ones with elastic waists just in case. I usually wear dark navy blue/black jeans. Or a certain shade of light blue, but I don’t find it very often anymore. Also yoga/dance pants are good. Shorts are okay, but I wear capris more often because my dad has certain rules** about what I can wear.

Skirts- I have three skirts right now, I need to get more sometime… I staryed wearing skirts more often again because of contradancing. PROOF THAT IT IS AWESOME. One is black, and very hard to describe, but it’s pretty awesome. (I got it from The Children’s Place. ^_^) It looks great with my black boots and my black-and-red plaid shirt. The second is white and flowy-ish, a very summer skirt. It looks pretty much okay with anything that covers/matches with the waist, which has an awesome pattern. The third is grey with white flowers around the hem, and looks good with pretty much anything, plus works in all seasons.

Shoes- I don’t have many shoes, sadly. Right now I have a pair of black boots that are very cool PLUS I got them from Target, a pair of grey Converse, a pair of New Balance sneakers that I’ve had for at least four years probably, several pairs of dressy black flats, a pair of brown strappy sandals that my grandmother gave me a while ago, black Crocs, and a pair of dress shoes that kinda look like men’s shoes. I refuse to wear heels, I have extremely high arches and anything other than flats hurts.

Tops- I like plaid/patchwork shirts a lot. I have two blue plaid shirts, one short-sleeved, and a long-sleeved one that doesn’t, a black-and-red long-sleeved plaid, a black-pink-blue short-sleeved plaid, and my AMAZING *patchwork colorful shirt, which I got in a package from Japan several years ago. (I also have a hat that matches it that I found by chance while shopping, on a day when I happened to be wearing said patchwork shirt. It’s amazing. XD). I also wear a lot of t-shirts, turtlenecks, and my cousin got me this amazing grey sweater vest for Christmas.

Dresses- Most of my dresses are extremely formal-ish, bought solely for wearing to the Symphony, piano recitals, clarinet recitals, or other events. I recently re-discovered one old dress, though, that looks pretty awesome over jeans. So that’s cool. Also this winter I obtained a very elegant dress, it’s mid-shin length and all black velvet with white trim, two white bows on the hem, and a bow on one shoulder.

I’ll stop for now, I think. XD This is going to be torture to whichever GAPA has to moderate it.

**I am not allowed to wear anything that my fingertips go past when my arms are my straight by my side, unless I’m wearing leggings or tights underneath. My fingertips go to just above my knees. It’s hard to find shorts that aren’t shorter than that. (Also not allowed to wear anything with skulls on it, because of the ‘negative connotation’. Come on, AL. Skulls=Death. Yeah. Remember I’m sadistic and morbid and twisted and insane? Skulls is SO ME. But noooo…)

I think people should be ablo to wear whatever they want. I don’t know what grade you’re in, but I can pretty much guess that whatever your peer age group is, nobody at your school would get offended/whatever by somebody wearing skulls. Sure, it’s negative. But so are integers, and I don’t see anyone jumping up to protest those. Wow, do I have a knack for bringing up controversial subjects or what? If you don’t like someone’s shirt, don’t look at them.

You may get weird looks or be excluded by some people, but I assure you that if you persevere you will in time find people who can appreciate you for your own wonderful self. Aw, thanks for the support, MF… *hug* It’s really not so much that I’m afraid of people making fun of me as that I’m just shy, and a bit iffy on standing out in public. (I know, kind of paradoxical, right?) But… eh. I really do like unconventional and awesome clothing, and I think I’m going to make myself a Moha-Samedi jacket (if I don’t die in the process) and wear it around everywhere… then people are more likely to realize that I’m a girl, anyway… (That is a total eye-crosser. People accepting me as a girl because I’m wearing a hot pink jacket which is cosplay clothing of a straight and manly male character who I would have cosplayed as a guy, because I don’t do hot pink as a girl… O.o)

I have this pair of black skinny jeans that smell like chemicals. I’ve had them for a few months and they’ve been washed a ton, but they still smell weird. I think it’s the dye because I have the same ones in blue, and the blue ones are fine. O.o I’m going to get rid of them if they don’t stop smelling weird soon. It drives me crazy because I’m always worried that people around me can smell them. It’s a bummer because they are really comfortable and look cool. but this chemical smell isn’t going away.

I love long skirts. I buy a lot of skirts and dresses at thrift stores because they are much cheaper and they are longer than the stuff at normal stores. (pro tip for people who don’t like how short or expensive clothes are)

Today I’m wearing:
Black skinny jeans (that don’t smell as much as usual. *hopeful*)
Low cut, tan, hoodless sweatshirt thing with embroidered flowers and butterflies coming out of the bottom corner, and seams on the outside.
Grey tshirt under the sweatshirt thing.

LOLLLL well…i’ve only done two that count, actually. hibari from katekyo hitman reborn and an advent children version of yuffie. but my friends and i are pretty much always planning on some new cosplay or other. it can get really expensive though so not all of our ideas always come to fruition. if you ever get the chance, definitely cosplay at a con, it is SOOOOO worth it.

I’d really like to cosplay, but I’m not really in touch with/interested in the kind of cosplay most people do and recognize. I like to dress up as Dido Twite, or Fuschia from Gormenghast, or a hobbit, or an elf, or Eowyn, or something. I do think I might be able to convince my friends to do a LotR re-enactment towards the end of the year though.

Today I am wearing:
Orange socks (actually, they’re arm-warmers, but they used to be socks before I cut the feet off so it’s an easy transformation)
Black leggings
Black knit skirt
Black boots
A black and grey shirt with orange and yellow knotted, flowery patterns on it and bell sleeves.

A few years ago while in an antique store I found a gorgeous dress. This dress was black velvet, knee length and had gold lacy trim around a v-neck. It had some separate sleeves that went from the wrist to the elbow as well. I tried it on, it fit perfectly. However, since I didn’t have any formal occasions to go to or any other foreseeable use for such a dress, I didn’t get it. I was just looking over a fashion site that is a guilty indulgence, and saw a black velvet dress with a lacy v-neck that might be gold, no detached sleeves, but the same just above the knee length. The tag was “vintage dress.” Now, I’m not suggesting it’s the same exact one I found on the eastern shore but didn’t buy, but it certainly looks like the same dress. Huh.

I think next time I find a perfect formal dress for a ridiculously good price I’m just going to buy it. I’ve kind of regretted the black one described above and the red strapless gown that also fit perfectly and looked ravishing, if I do say so myself.

Today I’m getting in touch with my inner bohemian/fortune teller.
Dark wash skinny jeans, waffle-knit grey and light blue striped v-neck long sleeved shirt over a tank top with olive-y green circles and spots on white and lace edges. Nothing too spectacular there, but add to this a yellow-y green knit yarn necklace and a scarf of the same color wrapped around my head (making my hair into some kind of big loose ponytail-ish thing, sort of like a cross between a turban and a scrunchie. Sort of.) with the tied ends dangling halfway down my back and false gauged spiral earrings.
I feel like some kind of gypsy AND my hair is kind of corralled into behaving despite it’s current awkward length. All this without massive amounts of bobby pins that don’t stay in anyway. Why didn’t I think of this sooner?

Today I wore jeans, a dark red waffle-knit (I love waffle-knit, can you tell?) long sleeved shirt with a cream and light blue very fine plaid button-down with three-quarter length sleeves over it, the same spiral earrings from yesterday and somewhere in the middle of the day I added a crochet hat that has white, light olive-y green yellow, olive green, blue, red and black bands from the crown down, with ruffles on the bottom one (black). It’s a wool/hemp mix, so not too warm, but I love it. The red matched my shirt too, so yay.

I’m actually proud of myself fashion-wise. Today is the the 6th day in a row that I’ve liked what I’m wearing.
Yesterday I had on gray jeans, a kind of drab olive green long sleeved shirt under a white and (the same) green striped tank top, the hat described in the post above and a necklace of round white glass beads that each have different colorful patterns on them, and the spiral earrings.

Today is a grass green scoop neck and burnt orange tiered broomstick skirt with a medallion print under a brown knit tank dress that ends just above my knees. So the orange skirt underneath makes kind of a long ruffle effect. I’m also wearing a black and orange beaded collar necklace and the spirals earrings yet again. I love them. ♥

Convention cosplay group, while hideously unmotivated, has decided on Hetalia. I, being Hungary, will be wearing a dress for the first time in years. I’ll have to go to a thrift/consignment store or something and look for a similar one. Thrift-store clothes shopping is a good deal of fun.

Clothes…

I had to ease off the cool clothes for a couple of weeks there because I found myself unable to think of anything but costumes. (In much the same way, I am attempting to go cold turkey from Tetris, an endeavor in which I just failed miserably. At least the clothes are more interesting that the little colored blocks.)

Yesterday, though, I got an eggplant purple suede coat that goes down to mid-calf with HUGE lapels. It is the Best Thing Ever for someone feeling as coat-deprived as I. So I wore it over my brown plaid dress and my red-brown leather boots and felt SO stylish all day long.

I felt pretty good yesterday, too, with a red and purple striped raw silk dress, forest green tights, a hand-dyed light green slip, and a blue-green velvet scarf.

I have lots of clothes to fix. My favorite everyday coat, a grey wool parka with applique (can’t spell…) wolves, polar bears, and igloos needs to be dry-cleaned very badly and the lining is falling to pieces. I also have a pale blue evening-gown-and-shrug set that needs to be mended before it can be sent to the dry-cleaners… and a pair of black suede boots and green suede lace-up shoes both need a trip to the shoe fix place.

Also, to encourage diversity in my costuming, I want to alter a few of my staple clothes.

Heh, navy blue hooded long-sleeved shirt, camo pants and birkenstock clogs. This is not my idea of dressing creatively or well. Oh well. I’ll put more effort in on the weekend, and I have been doing fairly well.

I’m super excited about the clogs though, they’re new. It’s been forever since I had clogs I liked (the last pair I got was awful). I used to wear nothing but clogs, but then Awful Clogs came along and I hated them, so instead of getting new ones I just wore Other Shoes. But these are nice clogs. They’re comfortable and don’t look as bad as the others, which I intend to get rid of now.

So. I have birkenstocks now! Yay! Second pair, the first pair I had were lime green sandals with huge yellow and white flowers that I wore to death.
These are dark drown suede and so soft. Mmm. And they fit perfectly. And I’m excited.

White suits are indeed awesome, though.
I’d be terrified to wear one or be around someone wearing one though, I never trust white to stay white around me. On the upside though, you can bleach white, which is one reason why white rompers and work clothes used to be common…….historical tangent, my apologies.

does anyone use lookbook to get inspired/ feel abject misery in comparison? i enjoy doing both of those things but i have to keep reminding myself not to go crazy over brands because then i will never have any money for the rest of my life

New Camera Girl a.k.a. Fiddler, recently, when I come up with a new clothing/accessory combo I like, I’ve been trying to remember to take a photo and put it in Evernote (a handy note-taking/organizing app). The aim is to have some ready-made choices on rushed mornings (i.e., most workdays) instead of dithering away my time or defaulting to the easy (and boring). Haven’t been collecting photos long enough yet to know whether this scheme will work as planned, but I thought it would be worth the experiment.

P.S. Just tried roasting broccoli.

I have a love/hate relationship with Lookbook. Glad to know I’m not the only one on here that uses it to, as you say, feel miserable about myself. I was so ridiculous as to create an account on lookbook and actually upload two “looks”, neither of which got any attention or praise and are kind of embarrassing. I think I might take them down, actually. I liked the clothes, just really terrible pictures. Meh.
I also adore modcloth, and am quite distressed by their prices. But such pretty clothes…..but such evil prices….clothes…..money…..gas and food……..sob.
Shoes are awesome. Bracelets are also awesome, but I don’t wear them as much (with the exception of the turk’s head tied around my left wrist), because they tend to dangle in things or get dirty and be unwashable. I’m getting back into making friendship bracelets though, which are fun and easy to wear all the time.

Tomorrow (today, gah) I’ll be wearing 18th century clothes though. I have them already laid out at the foot of my bed. They take up about as much space as three days worth of “normal” clothes would.
They’re so comfortable though. ♥

You’re quite welcome. Evernote is the kind of note-taking software I looked for in grad school but never found back then because what I wanted didn’t yet exist. The developers usually do a good job with upgrading, too. By the way, each of the separate versions (for desktop, browser, and mobile devices) has slightly different capabilities, but they all sync, of course.

I wear the collar and wristwarmers all the time now, though the warmers may have to be discarded from my uniform as the weather grows warmer. It’s, hey, more of a style than I used to have. *shrugs* And I really love this jacket. It’s all cross-woven and it’s got a pink lining and it’s just awesomely odd. ^_^

*Have I mentioned the wide legged striped jeans of awesomeness? I don’t believe I have, so let me correct this. They are, as their name explains, wide legged, striped jeans. But they aren’t demure pinstripes, they are bold, crazy longways stripes of varying shades of blue and different widths. They are very, very loud pants and I adore them. Best complement I got while wearing them: “I like those pants, by the way. It takes a certain kind of person to pull something like that off, but you do it well.” Then everyone else in our group made sounds of agreement. I felt special.

276- I have an awesome pair of blue-and-white striped wide-legged trousers. They are, unfortunately, too large for me.

I am sartorially dissatisfied. It’s not the fault of my wardrobe, because I have more than enough clothes to keep me happy, or the weather, or anything…It’s something a little bit more fundamental than that. I think… Let me see. When I dress up in a costume, I believe, it is with some expectation that by simply wearing the clothes that reflect what I want my life to be like that day, my life will be that way. Instead of dressing to my surroundings or lifestyle, I want my surroundings and lifestyle to dress to me. If I wear my patchy jeans or a Gunne Sax or a flowing skirt and blouse, I have this dream that when I go to school, I will lay in the grass with my friends and we’ll sing and make music, and somehow my situation and the attitudes of my friends will change to match my fantasy. Or I’ll wear boots and a dashing long coat, and instead of school I’ll have Grand Adventures involving leaping across rooftops and swinging on ropes. But of course clothes don’t have that power…and I need to learn that…but if that’s true, then what’s the point? It’s more fun, but sometimes I only do it to channel some other character in a different situation. But it doesn’t change MY situation. Alas.

I have a belt now.
A very awesome belt. It’s brown with golden dragons on it. It fits around my hips nicely, because it’s a bit large, but I refuse to cut holes into it to get it to fit around my waist, because this belt-around-the-hips thing is a really cool fashion statement.
I am SO wearing this to school next year. People will ask me why I’m wearing a random belt, and I’ll be like “It’s a fashion statement. It has dragons. And I got it from my former martial arts teacher when he was moving back to Japan last May.” and they’ll be like “You take martial arts?” and I’ll be like “Well duh, I’m Asian.”

But seriously. I think tomorrow I’m wearing black jeggings, my navy blue-ish tunic-style top, this belt, and my cap that my mom says reminds her of the Japanese soldiers coming home from the war.

I’m not entirely satisfied with my jewelry. None of my blue pendants show up on the shirt, so I had to wear the orange one, but it’s a bit of a stretch. It’d work better if it was pinker.

I kind of have an idea how I’d do it, but I don’t know how I’d get it to fit and be symmetrical and all that jazz. What I’m thinking is a knit top and then cotton or linen full knee-length skirt with a band around the waist. A twofer dress kind of thing.

A few weeks ago I got two new skirts. They’re quite awesome. One is blue with black trim, the other is black with white trim, both of them are the same style.

They’re just longer than knee-length, and have two layers. The under layer is longer and has a scalloped hem with eyelet, the over layer is about 2.5″ shorter and has lace. The waistband is kind of wide, and has a V in the front, outlined with simple lace. But the best part is the pockets. They have patch pockets on the sides, that are sort of cargo-pocket-ish, only gathered instead of pleated, and have drawstrings on the top that you tie in a bow. They’re quite large, I fit a whole water bottle into one.
I’m madly in love with them, since skirts with pockets are a rarity.

I wore the blue one with a white tank top tucked in and the skirt high on my natural waist, grey leggings that went to just under my knees, and my brown clogs when we went to the Folger a few weeks ago. It looked quite smashing, if I do say so myself.

Today I’m wearing the black one with brown and dark brown striped footless tights, clogs, and my dark olive green t-shirt that says “BURN FAT NOT OIL” with a picture of a bike.

I guess kind of fashion related is my hair. I’ve got an appointment on Thursday to get my dreads done, since I wasn’t getting very far by myself. Eeee I can’t wait!

The other day I made a new belt using the pattern and hardware (buckle, rivet) from one I got last summer and wore out.
The one I bought was fake leather that started falling apart immediately, but I bought it mostly with the intent of using it for a bit and then making a real leather one, so it was okay.
It’s a really cool belt though, it’s got a buckle with three tongues, and the entire strap has lines of three holes around it to make a pattern. I think it’s cool, at least. It’s also 36″, so it fits me perfectly, whether I want to wear it snug around my waist or loose around my hips. It’s got enough material to accommodate, but not tons of extra. Yay!

Jewelry is tangentially related to fashion, right? Well, today I bought some black suede cord and a whole bunch of clasps at JoAnn Fabrics today. I have a ton of glass beads bought a long time ago and I’m planning on making something with this. I have an image in my head but it’s kind of hard to describe. And if it goes well I’ll make a ton of jewelry. I typically don’t wear it often but I’m good at making it and I figure if I want to beef up my jewelry stores it’s easier to build something to my exact specifications. Hmm…I don’t have all the materials for it, but maybe I should see about making steampunk-y jewelry.

So one of my friends gave me a bright orange wool opera cloak. Like, NEON. It’s too cool to not keep, but what do I do with something like that? It’s like the crayola “sunset” orange/pink/whatever, the one you use and it’s kind of light and GLOWS. I could try to overdye it, but how do you overdye bright orange? Not to mention it wouldn’t really fit in the dye pot… Help?

Just keep in mind how colors mix, etc. Can you get a larger pot? Or do you have one of those big sinks in your kitchen, basement or garage? Could you shanghai the bathtub for this project? (Just tell your mom you think the tub would look way better in whatever color you’re dying.

You guys, you know how I’ve been lusting after a pair of converse for some time now? You know how I couldn’t decide on a color, or even on the style I wanted?
Today I accidentally stumbled upon the Plato’s Closet in a nearby town, and found a pair of brown converse low-tops. They’re the thin ones, and they’re a very pretty shade of brown, and they fit.
Guess what kind of converses I got today?
They were pretty much brand new (I seriously doubt that anyone wore them outside), and significantly less than they would have cost elsewhere.
~~Aaaaand since they were so cheap that means I can TOTALLY justify getting a pair of high-tops as well, right?~~

I also got two shirts. A white one with vertical blue stripes, button down, 3/4 length sleeves and a blue plaid one with a scoop neck and pleats. I also got a romper/shorts overalls-ish garment. I like it.

Converse are my new favorite shoes. I currently have black ones, but I’ve previously had blue and (light) pink.
You know what would be awesome? To buy white Converses and write various quotes/little pictures all over them in different colored markers, thus creating the most awesome pair of shoes ever. I resolve to do this next time I buy shoes.

I have spent ALL DAY looking at–well, it started as steampunk fashion, then it moved to western clothing, historical reproductions in general, then various types of ethnic clothing. I want this stuff so badly. But one look at the price tags and I decided that I couldn’t let myself like it too much.

All my clothes are packed up for college and whatnot and I’m working in the fields and on the distiller like every day so there is not even any point dressing nice. Today I’m wearing black pants and a red t-shirt with a sailboat on it. Also increasingly dirty green converse.

College packing. I need to do that. I have a huge (well, it’s not really huge, but it seems large) trunk in the middle of my room that I occasionally throw things into. Things like sheets and plates and a dishtowel and suchlike. That’s all I have in it so far. I need to do a wardrobe overhaul and then pack the remains.
*sigh*
Tomorrow’s project, methinks.

I don’t know how long it’d take to scrounge, but I could probably find stuff. I know people and I can tell them to keep an eye out for things.
It won’t be any fancy clothes, just your basic shift, petticoat, shortgown, apron, cap, neckerchief, but it’d get you by perfectly well. I’ll send you pictures so you know what I’m talking about.
I love you too, or didn’t you know?
And yes, this continent is SO DUMB. We’ll outsmart it someday.Hopefully sooner than later. Maybe next school break.

Holy cake I just realized that I will be in school for real and that means I can’t just be all “yeah, I think I’m going to take a trip for a week now, I’ll do my homework when I get back…” anymore. WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!?!

In clothes-related news, today I did that major wardrobe-overhaul I’ve been talking about. Unfortunately, the pile of discards didn’t reflect how ruthless I thought I was being. But I did get rid of a rubbermaid and box full of stuff. I’m going to try to thin the remains still though.
It feels good to be rid of so much. Hopefully I can sell some of it to a local consignment shop. I took it to one of the places I like a bit off, but they didn’t take any of it. Slightly embarrassing, but oh well.
Meh.

I painted my nails for the first time ever last night. It’s not really one of those things I was ever into, you know? But I believe very firmly in not dissing something until you’ve tried it, and curiosity led me to buy a bottle of nail polish.

And now. Well, it’s odd when I look down at my hands and see blue-green tips at the end of my fingers, but in a sense it’s kind of cool. See, the nail polish I chose is this metallic blue-green, and what with the way fingernails are shaped and all it looks exactly like I have dragon scales for fingertips. This was the first thing I noticed after painting them. My fingers look like dragon scales! You know, if I’d realized that nail polish would let me pretend that I had dragon scales glued to my fingertips I would have tried this way earlier.

Not that it’s all fun, of course. I have a terrible time keeping my nails out of my mouth and scraping the polish off with my teeth. Ughh…who knows what nasty chemicals are in there? And the coat is lumpy and sort of uneven because, hey, first time trying this and all.

You know, I can’t believe I just wrote an entire post dedicated to my nail polish. My twelve year old self would be horrified.

Jack Wills has just opened up two stores in Hong Kong. I was looking at their website and there’s a snood I think is really pretty, but it’s Â£39, which is a lot. Perhaps if I ever take up knitting and manage to learn Fair Isle…I’m planning on going to one of the stores tomorrow to see what they have and what the prices are like.

My dad was talking today, half-jokingly, about how I’ll need to fit in at [posh boarding school] so I’m not allowed to shop at any ‘trashy’ places. Jack Wills qualifies as all right in his eyes because the Wikipedia page says ‘Jack Willsâ€™ ranges are given a â€˜public schoolâ€™ and â€˜preppyâ€™ branding’.

(He thought H&M was trashy, by the way. Only because I happen to have one polyester jumper from there and he disapproves of polyester, for whatever reason – though he never enforces anything to do with clothes, he’s doesn’t care about my clothes, it’s just an opinion. My mother managed to convince him that they do have expensive things; only the ones we buy are never top of the price range.)

Interestingly enough I’ve never posted on this thread before.

I have been making ALL THE FINGERLESS GLOVES as presents. And just for funzies I made myself a pair that’s elbow length. In a lovely shade of very bright lemon/lime, with teal and grey stripes. Nom. I’m kind of in love with them.
I’m going to make myself a pair of legwarmers at some point, too.

Just ordered another dress off of Modcloth, it’s got stripes and a kerchief hem. I really hope it fits/is long enough/etc. I also got some green over-the-knee socks that I think will go well with it. Maybe if it comes before Saturday I can wear it into DC for the concert! Meeeeep!

And when I go back to school I’m not going to be on the paint crew anymore, so I can dress up every day instead of just the weekends! So I can work on my forever resolution to dress creatively.

Herp derp, I think it’s time for a new thread soon?
