Hot Soup, Part 2

The January random thread sinks ever deeper into the morass of winter — at least for those in the Northern Hemisphere. Antipodean MuseBloggers must be quite comfortable now. Continued from Part One.

    ::pies for all::

This week, weather-wise, has been absolutely CRAZY.

Last week, we had weather in the tens and twenties (F). The beginning of this week, we had weather in the SIXTIES (::jaw drops, realizes that isn’t far enough, unhinges, drops to the ground::), and now the weather is creeping back towards the tens…I think it was 16 degrees yesterday.

Honestly, I don’t know what has happened to the Earth. ::jaw drops again, at sixty-degree weather sandwiched between ten-degree weather, which happened in one week::

    (6) It’s true: nothing gets you going in the morning like a deep, glistening bowl of ice. If you face down the cold right away and internalize it (so to speak), nothing you encounter outdoors is likely to bother you. Highly recommended for you flash-frozen Californians.

My Music Theory teacher is a rhymes-with-witch who said today that our school doesn’t have work ethic.
I had to write the midterm essay for French in class today, and not only couldn’t finish it in class, but couldn’t go during gym to finish it because I couldn’t get out of gym.
I found out that D, the guy that I’ve really started to like recently, has had a girlfriend for about a month.
And I found out that M might be graduating early, and going to work with the Clinton campaign, which means that I wouldn’t see him at school.
And I had to go to the world’s most uninspiring pep rally today.

12/15 on the chem lab part of the exam…my calculations were right, but it was practical and i measured a bit too much HCl out so it ended up acidic. 5/5 for the amount of CO2 though, and 5/5 for using up all the NAHCO3. Lizzy got a 13/15 and jacob got a 11/15, so i’m about average i guess. jake got a perfect (duh) as did several other people

so that’s an 80% so far…and my goal is to not bring my total exam grade any lower than that.

i have math on monday, which i should probably go over. it should be ok though…

then tuesday is AP L/C, should be ridiculously easy…multiple choice and essays over stuff we did in class, and then an AP (hopefully synthesis) essay

band is just a rehearsal, then on wednesday i have brit lit (ridiculously easy…i live on that stuff) and CHEM (*chews up fingernails*)

and then on thursday it’s just AP gov, which should be ok if i go over the stuff.i think it’s two FRQs, which are easy, and multiple choice.

    whoooooooooooo crunch time.

Last week was crazy, so today i just got home, made popcorn, and watched the count of monte cristo (amazing movie btw…i think it might’ve been better than the book, although i haven’t read the book in a while…should read it again and compare)

clinton campaign booo. <.> obama was close in NH though!

and pep rallies are generally just as uninspiring as they are meant to be inspiring. so if the pep rally is supposed to be this huge, exciting thing, it’s the most boring thing ever. :D

    Hello everyone!

Today is my 19th birthday. Tomorrow’s my party, which is going to be absolutely huge. My family owns an acre of land, so about 40 people are coming. There will be live entertainment and lots of food, so it’s going to be a blast. So sorry you can’t come.

As this day comes to an end, it’s time for reflection. Another year has gone by. Friends have left me, new ones have come, and college approaches quickly. It’s been a year of discovery, both in myself and in humanity.

During this past year, I’ve had so many travels – that’s the good thing about waiting a year before college, after high school. I’ve been around the world (in more than 60 days), suffered the effects of jet lag, tasted new foods, and experienced different things. My short stay in Iraq and the Middle East, my travels through Vietnam with my family living there, having a drink in an Irish pub (with real Irishmen!), discovering my roots in France, traveling down the Amazon River, exploring the deserts of Egypt – it’s all made a big difference. My perspective of the world’s really changed – I see now that really, humanity is worth fighting for.

I look forward to the future because I know that I will be there, fighting to make the world a better place, fighting to make people see the true beauty around them, fighting to make myself a better person, and fighting to live.

    A journey ends. Another begins.

    Thank you.

Almost everybody was out there on the ice tonight. List of events:

    2) Ethan and his GF Quinn snuck up behind me and pushed me so I would “go faster”
    3) I snuck up behind Ethan and Quinn in their cute little Cute-Synchronized-Couple-Skating and pushed Ethan
    4) Quinn sought revenge and didn’t really get it
    5) Evan asked Laura out and she said no (thank God)
    6) Mr. Runfola did a back flip (or a back flop, depending on how you look at it)
    7) I skated straight into Cessia
    8) I tried to teach Emma how to skate but failed
    9) Deron crashed into me
    10) Clique skated a couple times with a couple different cliques
    11) Danced to “Hey Ya” with Laura and Cessia
    12) Emma stole Allison’s RedBull and drank it all
    13) Evan said he was gonna ask Kayla out
    14) I tripped a couple cheerleaders (they deserved it, I promise)

And Avery and Cessia look cute together. But that didn’t exactly “happen”.

When she was first born, I was delighted. I even remember chanting “Opal, Opal, the joy of my grief!” (I was three.) The next day, it is reported (though I don’t remember this part) I hated her for taking up my mother’s time. I think when I stopped being able to play her games, we started fighting. She went to school for much of that time, luckily. And then my mom started working in the evenings, and it got worse.
    And worse.
    And worse.

I can see how an only child would think that having siblings would be great (probably much like I think being an only child would be great) and it probably would be till one of you entered puberty. I can see how their children are so much happier because of having each other

When I think about it, I am always going to be open for criticism. I am an only child who is homeschooled, is vegetarian, doesn’t swear, doesn’t really play any sports, reads Muse, and yet I’m usually always extremely happy. I just don’t fit in with what’s expected!!

As a result of several comments concerning the complexity of my name, I shall now proceed to teach you how to say “Faye Beauchamp.” Admittedly, it looks difficult – this is why I despise substitute teachers, as they always get it wrong.

    FAY BO-shamp

    “FAY” rhymes with “way”
    “BO” rhymes with “no”
    “shamp” rhymes with “womp”

I suppose you could call me Way No-Womp, but that just sounds peculiar. In fact, I don’t like that name at all.

Allow me to tell you a story about myself and my name.

My family has a tradition that a baby girl’s grandmother (on the father’s side) is allowed to name the child and that a baby boy’s grandfather (on the mother’s side) is allowed to name the child. My grandmother was dead at the time I was born, which then caused a huge dispute among my family as to who should name me.

Finally, the responsibility fell to my mother’s oldest sister. My aunt was quite the hippie at that time. She named me Faye, which is a french name version of “fairy”.

    End of story time!

Looking at a pigeon morph identification chart, I realized there is a morph called a “Pied pigeon”. As a HAWK, I am of course interested in this especially Muse-like type  Just kidding.

And, at a gas station near you me there is a florescent sign on which a few letters have burnt out. It says, when lit up:

    Pie
    Subs and Salads

A very odd order indeed, to eat things, unless you are a Muser  It was supposed to say “Blimpie” but instead gave us some publicity, as anyone, especially non-musers, must be immediately laughing on the floor when they see the “order” to the “list”

But the thing that really upsets me is the fact that I’m afraid he’ll forget about me when he leaves. I’m afraid that he’ll do what some of my CTY friends have done. You think that you’re good friends with someone, but if you don’t see them for a few weeks, for some reason they don’t bother talking to you even if you try to keep in touch with them.

Today was quite a busy day. I had school as usual, then I played tennis (my usual Wednesday activity), then I worked on my LTP (Long-term Project) for a few hours. After dinner, my dad gave my mom a bunch of presents, which were really funny! First, he gave her a Halloween wig — really bad quality, fluorescent blonde, and absolutely hilarious — for “when she loses her hair.” Then, he gave her a bunch of magazines and books to read while getting Chemo and recovering and such. He also gave her a cushioned toilet-seat and a stress-reliever-squeeze-ball-thing. Then, he gave Anna, Jacob and I a little doctor-dress-up kit, fully equipped with a stethoscope and doctor’s outfit. The way he introduced all of them was really funny! Then, I did all of my homework and practiced piano. Yayfun!

La Mort: I know I haven’t talked to you as much as some other MBers, but if you were to die, it would be an unfillable hole in not only MuseBlog, but everyone’s lives.
Please give it some serious thought, how much of an impact you make on someones life, whether you know it or not. From smiling at someone in the store and making them fell that they are worth something, to stepping in to help a friend, you make a difference. Everyone does. For example, I hope that you wil read this and know that some kid who you’ve never met in real life cares enough to hope that you won’t hurt yourself.
I’ve had fleeting thoughts of suicide before, but really, it doesn’t help anyone. Instead of being a way to get out of a problem, it only makes it harder for everyone you leave behind, and doesn’t help whatever you were trying to escape in the first place.
As for a purpose, everyone has one. Maybe it hasn’t appeared to you in giant red block letters above your bed yet, and maybe it never will. But hey, this gives you a great excuse to go out on an adventure to find it. That might be your purpose too, who knows?
Just know, that whether people say it or not, you do have a place in this world, no matter how insignificant it might seem at times, and that no one can ever fill it for you.

I hope this helps some. *hugs*

I’m still awake, and hopefully my consumption of a few spoodfuls of Ben&Jerry’s New York Chocoloate Fudge Chunk will keep me awake enough to post the grand adventure that was my day.

Math was meh. I didn’t have time to do my homework so I mostly sat there feeling stupid and despairful and thinking that my grade was going to drop and I was never going to get a scholarship (gee, thanks, Mom. You really put the pressure on me last night), but I got an extension so it was all good.
Then I went to English which was much better, as English usually is, but still demoralizing because I got TWO VOCABULARY WORDS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which sounds petty but after math class I needed to excel, and I wasn’t. We read “The Cask of Amontillado”, which definitely lacked something, though it may have just been that my English teacher was reading it aloud. I saw pictures of the catacombs in Paris, decided I wanted to go there, and changed my mind by the end of the day. I need to work on both of my English projects.
Than I had PE, which was CURSED as usual. We had to run a mile in the frigid weather, and my skin was cold for ages, and I couldn’t breathe, and my head heart so badly by the end of the run that I couldn’t walk straight.
After school I hung out with K and M and E in the auditorium, and M and I (myself, that is) played dress-up with the costumes up in the “Rat’s Nest” (loft with props). And then I joined a battle between K and E.
The Salmon Bowl meeting was fun, even though my test score was MISERABLE.
I don’t have rehearsal tomorrow. And no school on Monday. *breathes sigh of relief*

I have a friend whose brother committed suicide last year, and it’s still difficult for her. I’ve been in your place, more or less, and what stopped me, apart from the procedural issues, was the thought of everyone I love. Oh yeah I remembered another thing I want to say that might help.

Suicide is not selfish or weak. Suicide happens when the pain you have overcomes your strength for dealing with pain. It doesn’t mean you’re weird or that anything is wrong with you.
There is no such thing as not being serious about suicide. Some people will say that something isn’t a good reason but it only applies to that one person. What some people can tolerate is extremely painful for others. For people who have never thought of suicide it might look selfish, but to some of them they believe that they are helping by becoming less of a burden.
I’m not trying to say that suicide is ok, but nobody should feel ashamed. It isn’t their fault or anyone else’s.

    . . .
Actually now that I’m no longer feeling like screaming or breaking down in tears I don’t have much to say. How pathetic.
Ohyes! I finally discovered the use of little sisters!
Okay, so, before I begin my story you need a bit of background information. E lives 2 blocks away, she rides my bus, goes to my school, she’s the only other girl in the Salmon Bowl, etc. We’ve spoken about three times. She’s always too shy to start a conversation, and I’M always too shy to start a conversation, so we just don’t talk to each other.
Today I was going to the store to get some spaghetti sauce, and who should I meet but my sister and her friend, who dragged me forcibly to E’s house and didn’t let me come out.
So after a few minutes of awkward laughter, E took me through her back door and we made a long detour, came back to her house – and were once again captured. This time they took us to my house, and tied us up with scarves. Eventually we escaped and Opal and C led E away. I went out to get that spaghetti sauce, and wound up back at home, so I left again and this time I got the spaghetti sauce and got to talk with E.
So that kind of broke the ice. It was fun.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to kill myself. I have you guys to talk me out of it, and I’ve never gotten that close yet.

259-It’s not today specifically that I’ve been having them, although emo did cross my mind a couple of times. What I’ve concluded is this: I’m unpopular, getting grades that I hate myself for, and my close friends are fewer than I need. And then when I have the slightest thought about self-harm, I get so mad at myself for having those thoughts that it crosses my mind even more. It’s that vicious cycle thing.

I don’t even know why. I have two parents that love me. We’re doing financially great. It’s so stupid!

261-Fun movie? You kidding me? Not in my house you don’t. A fun movie in my house is some opera in Itallian. If I could get Juno or Night at the Museum or even Taledega Nights I would, but I can’t, so I don’t.

If my mom followed through with her threats and took me to a shrink, I’m worried that they’ll diagnose me with something like depression which will make me MORE depressed.

I’M TWELVE. I SHOULD NOT BE DEPRESSED.

    Which makes me even depresseder.

And I just need a hug, a real one, not a virtual one, that would last a long long long time.

Have you guys ever just curled up and cried? I’ve been doing that increasingly over the last year. And everybody’s like “Beev, you used to be all happy, and now you’re, like, emo, minus all the skulls.”

About a month ago, I found myself scratching at my arm (the top, not the bottom) absentimindedly with scissors. I was so surprised, I dropped the scissors. Can I be depressed and not know it? Can I be WANTING to be emo?

    Have I finally lost it?

@the whole suicide thing: my friend M has been chronically depressed and fashion-deprived (though I’m not sure that has anything to do with it) since the third grade. And also, you guys rock! I don’t know what the blog would do without you.

And it’s addicting, so even when I want to go off and read a book I have to play it. DURRRR. This is why I want a laptop! Well, only nine more months until my birthday! And, speaking of laptops, have any of you heard about the MacBook Air? Ohmygod pwnage, that’s what it is. Totally. Though since it doesn’t have a disk drive I might have to pass. I just figured out the magic of Bluetooth and now I am uploading all the photos off my phone and onto my computer. My dad scrounged out a Bluetooth dongle for me (love that word, “dongle”) and I jacked it in and I was set! Now I have like a million pics of stray cats to photoshop to my heart’s content. Yay cats! Another thing, my cat crawled into my bed this morning and just started purring. Unless you want to play games on your laptop, and that would have to be a powerful laptop for the games out today, then you don’t need one. All it takes to get things onto your laptop is desktop computer and a USB flashdrive. You get the application (or photo, or music file, or whatever it is) onto the desktop, load it onto the flashdrive, and from there load it onto your laptop. Problem solved.

    (265) Beavo, a diagnosis — if and when it’s correct — can actually be liberating. For a start, it can be the difference between catching the stalker out in the open versus constantly looking over your shoulder wondering what’s lurking behind the bushes. In case it’s useful — I wrote a little about my own experiences with depression on Hot Topics 2006.5.

It’s also important to remember that depression is part of life’s repertoire of responses and comes in many forms, not all of them clinical.

La Mort and Beavo, since many MBers have spoken so well and so movingly on this subject, I will add only that everyone’s darkness is unique, but I empathize very much with what you’ve been going through. I do know what it is like to try to look into the future and see nothing but endless empty space. And I also know what it’s like to see color reemerge.

Now that some decades of that future have become the past and I’m living in a present I would not have expected, I can testify the years between have been anything but blank! I won’t pretend the days have always been bright, but there has always been at least something that made it worth sticking around. And one thing I certainly couldn’t see back then through the gloom was the gift of knowing all of you.

I have a huge bruise on my forehead…

Basically, last night, my brother was trying to tell me about some Yugioh card or other while I was trying to get to sleep. I really didn’t want to listen, so I put my fingers in my ears and sang, which really annoyed him, so he climbed onto my couch+mattress+pillow bed and started kicking me. Now…I don’t really feel pain too much. With a little brother and me playing soccer and stuff, I’ve kind of gotten used to it, and it often makes me laugh instead of cry. So I was laughing and he was freaking out, and then I got bored of letting him kick me so I got up and dragged him off my bed. Then he started trying to talk again, so I started throwing these tiny squishy basketball things that were lying around (they were sort of like hacky sacks in terms of size and weight, but they were squishy) at him. He freaked out again, and started coming after me. I held him off, but it was still getting annoying. Anyways, I had to go to the bathroom so I stood up and started walking past his couch/loft bed to get to the doorway. But he thought I was trying to retrieve the balls I’d thrown, so he stopped me from going that way and pushed me back to the couch. I tried to block him with a pillow, but he kept throwing the balls at me (some of them were still squishy, others were plastic). One of the plastic ones hit my jawbone and hurt it pretty bad, so I threw that same plastic one back at him and it hit him pretty hard on the shoulder. Then he really freaked out and grabbed the pillow from me and threw me to the floor. He sat on my back and started banging my head into the concrete floor. I started screaming “Stop, stop!”, but he wouldn’t. After a couple more seconds, though, he got off and ran to tell day, saying “Dad, dad! Meow (not my real name) is hurt!” as though he hadn’t been the one that hurt me…Dad came running in, but I was already getting up, since, while it hurt, I didn’t want him to see me hurt or giving my brother the pleasure of knowing I was hurt. I got up, went back to my bed, and was crying there. I think Dad gave my brother a “talking to”, but other than that, he didn’t get in trouble at all. This morning I woke up and had an obvious bruise the size of a quarter on the right part of my forehead. Luckily I can hide it under my hair and today’s Saturday so I don’t have to go to school.

But it sort of worries me. What if next time he won’t stop, or he breaks my arm or something? His temper’s really out of control sometimes…sort of like mine was a couple of years ago, but I was never this bad…it’s scary.

She started complaining about how I ate all the bread, and she lost her money, and then she decided that I’d stole it so she was going to search my room, and she tore the house up, and pulled my hair, and screamed at me, and I yelled at her, and she’s throwing pillows at me, and lying on the floor throwing a temper tantrum, and Mother’s at work so I don’t have an ally. I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it’s not even as though the house is empty of food. There are plenty of carbohydrates (that’s all she eats) but she doesn’t want to make rice or noodles or potatoes. What did I do to deserve a little sister?

265~ I know what you mean about curling up and crying. Sometimes for no reason at all. Trust me, I’ve been there. One day I wasn’t exactly happy, but I had no idea how upset I really was. I had just gotten home from a disappointing visit to one of my favorite people in the world [who was suffering depression at the time] and when I slipped and fel on a patch of ice I just started bawling. No real reason, I didn’t even hurt myself falling–I just really had to get it all out.
There’s nothing wrong of shameful in crying, just so long as you don’t miss out on all the beautiful things in life or isolate yourself. Keeping it all in is NOT HEALTHY.

I haven’t been to the Akron one since I was very young, but I remember it having places where you could build things. I have a car I made out of a block of wood from there.

One of the days we are there we are going to go visit the tomb of the unknown solider and during the changing of the gaurds, those 4 people will get to place a wreath on the tomb. I (being a true muser) am going to enter but the reason im telling all of you this is because im wondering, if i post my essay (excluding my last name, of course) would i get constructive critizism for my fellow Musers? I’m also looking for facts about the tomb to include in my essay….
If im allowed to post it, which thread would i go to GAPAs?

So remember Post 308 on the last thread about how I was probably getting to go across the state for a math competition? Well, I can’t. So boo. The worst part is how my mom told me…well, she didn’t. She just let me figure it out for myself. I mean, it was all still up in the air, but she gave me no reason to think that I wouldn’t get to go at all. And then she just shuts up. So then I find out that it’s this Saturday and since she’s already talking about what I’m doing on Saturday, I’m clearly not going. Thanks for letting me down gently, mom. -.-

The soldiers interned in the tomb are from WWI, WWII and the Korean War.
There was a soldier from Vietnam also, but he was identified and reburried.
Across the “road” from the tomb is the memorial to the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia.

Photographs of me can be seen in a thread called “When They’re Not on the Blog.” My description of my personality is probably a bit biased, but here it is: I read quite a bit, I like to think that I’m rather sophisticated, I’m easygoing and laid-back, I sometimes have trouble controlling my temper, I’m sensitive to certain things that rile me up more than others because I’ve had them done to me my whole life by my brother, I collect foreign coins, I believe that silver can help protect against the malignant influence of evil spirits, I’m intelligent by all available evidence. That’s all I can think of at the moment; I’m rather tired.

I hate my chem teacher. Maybe if he would stop bragging himself and his children for the first fifteen minutes of every class we’d actually be able to get the experiments we do do done. He also says the reason we don’t do many experiments and they’re all boring is “Well, if we use chemicals in here then they might get on the table and floor and then get on your stuff.” We can’t even use the logical solution of leaving our backpacks in a bin by the door. *stops before rant takes over thread*

Anyway, finals. I wish I had time to read this thread, I need something light/refreshing to do amidst the hours of rewriting notes. I have been doing so for around… five and a half hours so far today. And I still need to do one more section in math, decide what to put on the notecard we’re allowed to bring into the math final, 6 more sections of chemistry, try to understand the difference between the preterite/imperfect in Spanish and go over all the year’s vocab, and then start on the 100 pages (litterally, the binder is now thicker than the textbook) of Sports Med powerpoint notes that I have to make sure I have memorized.

Oh, and then somehow I volunteered to play at the doors for the 8th graders/parents when they come take their tour of the HS so I have to find time to practice with Sarah. Crap.

So, should I ditch lunch tomorrow and practice flute, or stay in and study/ask Kathy to teach me dimensional analysis? I only went to lunch once last week, the rest of the time I was in the band room because I don’t have time to play flute at home anymore. This is what comes of letting mom sign me up for that second hockey team, though. Away all weekend and left to cram. *dies*

La Mort, I care you’re here. It makes me sad when people leave for whatever reason, and when they’re feeling depressed and stuff it’s worse because we don’t know if they’re getting better or not. I’ve felt like that before, actually earlier this week where I was extremely stressed and depressed and even crying during school and at home, and that mixes with apathy about everything. We are getting report cards in a couple weeks. January 25th is the end of the 1st semester. I can’t believe it’s already been 1/2 the school year. It seems like just yesterday I was lost on the way to my locker. I hope the rest of high school goes this fast.

415~ Oh yes, that sounds like great fun, being mauled by a mysterious creature. Just out of curiosity, will you use the MBer’s blog name, or will you just loosly base a charicter on their personality as you know it?

424~ I’ll do it as soon as we figure out how to use the scanner we got. But I will get one in…eventually.

    415–*voulenteers*

420-Actually, Beavo the Great was a cartoon character I came up with in fifth grade. I can send in a picture of him if y’all want…

448-Personally, I don’t consider having the symbol of our country- the Statue of Liberty- rolling down the streets of NYC great entertainment. And plus I’m one of the sissiest guys you will ever meet (or not, but still).

415- It would be cool if I made a cameo appearance in your next book. Actually, it would be kind of cool if I was the prostitute. Or if I got to kill people.

    419-…
448-ummm….ya know some people just don’t like the idea of killing? I for one could not kill somebody if I was going to be killed myself. Uggggghhhhh. yet books and movies that aren’t based on real life(star trek, LOTR, whatever) i won’t mind.

453- What? You did stab me in the chest, remember? Or did you? No, you just cut me open with a golf club. My bad. Don’t worry, I don’t hold it against you or anything.

453 through 457~ That was halarious to read.

I don’t usually enjoy movies with tons of violence and killing in them. Yes, go ahead and call me a sissy.

  460. Ultimate Supreme Executive Chairman Grant O. says:

452- You don’t get to kill people, I’m afraid.
451- If suspense films that tell you nothing, even at the end, with bad camerawork because they were too lazy to produce it properly aren’t your thing, don’t call yourself a sissy. Personally, I’ve only seen one horror flick, and it was one of the worst movies I ever saw. I was cracking up more than I was scared. Of course, the film was the new “When A Stranger Calls,” so whatever.
453- If it was me or someone else, I would be able to kill someone. Actually, I’ve probably come pretty close to killing people. There was this one time I nearly strangled someone because they wouldn’t let me sleep. The Chairman needs his sleep, dammit!
